PLOT: nova must distract shang tsung while liu kang, kitana, kung lao, and jade search for a few items but not really.

"If I'm allowed to be perfectly honest it's not the best idea you've had as of late." Nova resumed tapping her finger claws on the round table in disinterest, only stopping when someone spoke. Kitana scowled at Nova but Sindel put a comforting hand on her shoulder before speaking up, "No it is not the best of ideas but we do not have many suggestions for the situation at hand Novanna." In short, they wanted her to be bait, maybe bait was too harsh of a word they wanted her to be a distraction for the soul-stealing shape-shifting sorcerer they all know and love.

Mileena had volunteered but it would have been too obvious thus making Shang Tsung suspicious the next occupant was Ermac but Shang Tsung would see him as a meal and that would be the end of it. At this point and time, everyone knew about Nova and Shang Tsungʼs relationship which dates back to the tournament. Their marriage, Novaʼs pregnancy, Novaʼs miscarriage — everything.

But if Nova was the distraction posing as someone who means to reconcile it would take up enough time to get what they would be searching for. What are they searching for you might ask? A gemstone. A core gemstone made by Delia that held Edeniaʼs essence. Edeniaʼs Kamidogu was acquired not too long ago and in Rainʼs hand since Kitana had announced that he would be Edeniaʼs Protector.

Kitana has already made promises to her people that Nova knows she won't be able to fulfill them all but that's a discussion for another time. Their current objective was Shang Tsungʼs Island and Deliaʼs gemstone. Nova looked at the people who occupied the round table Baraka appeared motionless, Koʼatal seemed indifferent, Jade and Mileena seemed to agree with Kitana and Sindel, and Erron gave Nova a shrug indicating that he simply didn't care.

"When do we leave and who are we taking with us?" Nova looked at Kitana with disdain and her body language matched. "Liu Kang and Kung Lao will assist us but Jade and Mileena will keep watch." Once again Nova did not like the sound of the plan she never did but what could she do? What could she say?

Since Kitana wanted them to move quickly they moved quickly. Sindel and Mileena would be looking over the Royal Court in Kitana's absence. Nova wore a stone face all morning and spoke to no one unless it pertained to the ‘mission’. Nova had opened a portal outside of the palace and watched with a vexed gaze as Liu Kang and Kung Lao walked through but she offered them a smile and a wave that was also returned she wanted them to be silently aware that whatever anger she may have wasn't towards them but towards the situation at hand. “We should be on our way, Princess Kitana. It may be morning in Outworld but if I'm correct it should be nighttime in Earthrealm.” Nova turned to face Liu Kang and Kung Lao with a raised brow, “Right?” Kung Lao shrugged his shoulders. “Coming through the portal just now the sun was setting. By the time we arrive at the isle, it should be nightfall.” Nova closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

“Alright then let's go.”

Yes, it was indeed nighttime when they arrived at the steps of Shang Tsung’s isle and Nova’s legs were trembling from the anxiety of her meek mission and the fact that Kung Lao should never be allowed to operate a boat for the rest of his life if anybody can help it. “Liu Kang unless Raiden or any other deity I can't beat allows him to never let him get behind a ship’s wheel again.” Jade huffed, elbowing Kung Lao as she walked past him, Kung Lao proceeded to shake himself out as if she were a dog, and Kitana snatched off her mask in agitation, “Agreed.” Liu Kang laughed as Kung Lao gave the group one of his dramatic sighs. “How was I supposed to know there was a rock right there?” Nova scoffed and continued up the steps,” By looking in front of you and not attempting to look at someone’s cleavage?” Nova opened the door to the Palace Entrance and looked around trying to get her bearings. There were a few unopened treasure chests and gold coins littered the floor, Nova looked behind her to see a sealed double door and if she was right that was one of the entrances to his throne room. She looked in front of her and saw a slip-through door on her left and a gaping hole that anyone could slip through.

“Alright Kitana and Liu Kang go through that slip door and there should be more chests you can look through but there is also a pathway that leads underground where Shang Tsung held most of his prized artifacts. Jade and Kung Lao the same thing applies but you will have to take that slip out right there. I’m separating you so you can cover more ground and so your energies won’t alert him. If Kitana and Liu Kang end up back here and Jade and Kung Lao aren't here yet you will wait and vice versa.” Kitana opened her mouth but Nova beat her to it. “Do not worry about me. I’ll find my own way out but if either of you find the gemstone, retrieve it and leave quickly.” With that, they rushed away and Nova was left to herself for a few moments and she stood there motionless just swaying left to right and working up the courage to go through those doors and into the courtyard.

As she placed her hands on the doors she took one more breath and pushed the doors open. Nova put her hand on her chest to calm her racing heart.

“Shang!” A moment passed when she called his name as Nova scanned the area she huffed and turned around, “Yes?” Nova yelped and jumped back from hearing the voice she had heard so many times before. She looked at Shang Tsung and the first thing she noticed was that he was younger, he was wearing dark brown pants, a green vest, and a long black trench coat.

It was silent for a few more moments until Shang Tsung spoke up, “You look different. I like it.” Nova licked her lips and straightened herself “You look the same. I like that.” A small smile appeared on her lips and she ran towards him and hugged him. She squeezed him a bit harder when he hugged her back nestling his face into her neck “I've missed you, Shang. I've missed you so much.” Nova pulled back to look at him and he tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear, “I never doubted your love for me in a way you will always belong to me.” Nova remembered that she was a distraction. Time to be a distraction. What a great time to be a distraction.

Nova narrowed her eyes at Shang Tsung, “Belonged to you? What do you mean I belonged to you?” Nova pulled away but Shang Tsung kept a soft grip on her arms as their smiles started to dial down. "It's not too hard to understand, it's very simple, you belong to me. Nothing has changed, you came back to me did you not?” Nova could feel an eye twitch coming, “Based on rumors and gossip it’s not like you gave the message out yourself when you were restored did you?” Shang Tsung’s smile turned into a sneer, “I never intended for you to come this early but you were never one for patience, everything must happen on your own time?” Nova scoffed and backed away, “Your soul is mine to fault anyway see?” Shang Tsung waved his hand in a circle and presented the very thing in his claw gauntlets that was causing Nova so much trouble. Her soul. She didn't know how it worked that he was holding her soul in his very hands but she was still standing and breathing. A rare being, Shang Tsung will give her that. "I have it so it's mine. You’re mine" He sounded like a child who didn't want to share anything at playtime.

He didn't care. He didn't want her soul. He needed it. Like he needed her. Like he needed her heart to be his again. He knew those godforsaken monks, the princess and her protector were here on his island but he silently applauded her for the little plan he had overheard when they were at the entrance. Because he had his own little plan. If they were both quite long enough they could hear her soul echo something but couldn't make it out into words. "Shang Tsung, would you be so kind as to give me my soul back?" Nova asked with fake kindness she didn't have the time for this nor the patience. "Not in that tone I won't. Where has my kindness ever got me?" Shang Tsung pointed his clawed finger at her and in an instant, she smacked away. "I will make a deal to show you my kindness and generosity! Your soul for a kiss." It wasn't even a question. A statement. A proposal he said. Nova didn't even look disgusted, "That's it?" She had kissed him many times before like it was nothing…but they were married back then and that was before he tried to steal the krown. Before he had done many things.

But after the death of Shao Kahn, their 'marriage' was broken. Nova let out a ghost of a smile and Shang Tsung chuckled "It can be much more if you want it to be of course. Spend the night, have a drink, talk, share my bed."

Always the gentlemen. "I'll take the kiss for now, thank you." She said as he started to walk over to her again. He looked down at her not even meeting her eyes but began to mess with her corset tightening and loosening a few sections and he seemed so focused. Nova was focused enough on him to notice the slight twitch in his muscle and how he flinched as Nova put her hand on his bicep.

Novaʼs face softened, he was still the same in a way.

Sleep-deprived, and paranoid, Nova could even put the word lonely in there. A lonely old man with a young woman. No, she wouldn't throw it in his face today. She let her other hand settle by his neck, "Do you ever think about us?" Nova looked up at Shang Tsung not in a rude or even confused way.

Us. "Many days and nights I do. It can be fixed. We could start over." Nova took pleasure in seeing his face light up slightly and now their foreheads were touching "It'll take time and effort." Shang Tsung cut her off "I know." He hid his face in her neck as he started rambling "I know I know I know I know I know [know I know I know I know I know I know." He wanted her. He needed her so badly. So bad it hurt.

Deeply in love with the person, he had hurt and he regretted it. He had done so many unforgivable and fathomable things to Nova and the ones close to her.

Things that Shao Kahn would praise and others looked down on. He honestly didn't care as much as they didn't trust them. He was surprised she even came to see him. Well...he is holding her soul captive. He is not doing much better. "Shang?" Nova whispered his name and he brought his attention back to her face as Nova brought his face down to hers. Her onyx-covered lips made the desperate connection to his full lips. Shang made any gap or amount of space disappear as he brought her closer. He could do so many things while she was in his courtyard.

Would it be so wrong to take her right here? To make the undying love they used to make? She made it tempting. Shang attempted to push his tongue between her lips and once he did it was a battle, to say the least. She was pushing his tongue away and as a way to tell him that she grabbed a fist full of his hair including some of the tiny braids. He didn't pull back- oh no no that hair pull to him was the encouragement that he wanted she should know by now how he liked a little pain now and then.

Nova put both of her hands on his cheeks and brought him off of her lips, a thin string of saliva connected between the two, "Was that enough?" Nova was lightly panting now and so was Shang Tsung. He brought himself down for another kiss and Nova gladly met him. "Not nearly enough." Nova felt out of her body, every limb was moving on its own and she silently blamed Shang Tsung. But in her peripheral, she could see Kung Lao and Jade crouching, so she slid her hand down from Shang Tsungʼs hair and down his back to point her index finger towards an exit.

Jade and Kung Lao gave a quick nod but Nova cringed at the series of events that unfolded Nova removed her lips from Shangʼs panting once more and they gazed at each other for a moment and a moment was all it took for Kung Lao to get distracted and knock something over and make it crashing onto the floor. Jade grabbed his arm and pulled him into the slip as Shang Tsung turned his head around to see what caused the noise and Nova grabbed his face to turn him back to her and kissed him once more to which he melted into without fail.

Nova knew something had shifted in the air and she took note of Shang loosening her corset ribbons that she was in for an eventful night. Hopefully.

An: an (extremely) last minute entry for a writing contest im in for @mysticmessengerenglish enjoy! (Sorry if it flows weird it’s been a long time since I’ve written dialogue and didn’t have time to proof read)

Tomorrow would be the day I had been waiting for. The day we had been waiting for. Tomorrow i would finally tie the not with the love of my life. I was so excited i could barely sleep. Suddenly there was a knock at the door of my hotel suit.

“Come in,” I called out quietly as to not disturb the neighbors at such a late hour.

In came my beautiful fiance Jahee Kang. Her caramel eyes were warm as always despite only being illuminated by the moonlight, and her chocolate hair was tied up in a cute little ponytail. She wore a simple sill night gown that made her look like a goddess.

“What are you doing here love you know they say it’s bad luck for lovers to see each other before their wedding day,” I tease.

She raises her hand to her mouth and let’s out a quiet giggle.

“I know my love, but i just couldn’t sleep without you especially with wedding jitters,”

“I know the feeling,”

The two of us gaze into each other’s eyes lovingly for a moment before i speak up again.

“Why don’t we talk until we get tired won’t to go to sleep. I won’t tell I saw you if you wont,”

She let’s out another adorable chuckle,

“Alright sounds like a plan,” she replies as she sits next to me on the bed.

“So what’s the first thing you want to do once we’re finally married,” I ask.

“Well of course i want to spend our honeymoon enjoying your company and enjoying the view from the balcony of our suite in paris”.

I hum in acknowledgment “that sounds lovely”.

“What about you,”

“Me? Well i want to do that thing they do in the movies where i bridal carry you past the threshold of our new home,”

“Waking up to each other every morning, cooking you breakfast in bed.”

“Opening that cafe you’ve always dreamed of.”

“Rainy nights cozying up to each other in front of the fire.”

“Date nights on the roof.”

“Food fights when cooking dinner.”

The two of us laugh at our fantasies, seeming to get more riled up instead of winding down.

“What about a kid?” I ask cautiously looking to her face for a response.

“A kid?”

“Yeah, I know we’ve talked about it, but I would really like to raise a kid with you Jahee,”

She sits in silence for a few minutes and i think I’ve overstepped and am about to call it a night, but she cuts off my thoughts with a smile.

“I think a kid would be wonderful,” she smiles.

“Would we have our own or adopt,” she asks

“I’m not sure I guess that’s something to think about later,” i reply

“Think of all the cute outfits we could have them wear.”

“And decorating their room.”

“Reading them bedtime stories.”

“Playing pretend with them.”

“The first day of school.”

“We would be right there for them to make sure they aren’t scared,” I say taking her hand.

We look into each other’s eyes and just sit there with our fantasies of the future. No matter what we ended up doing: where we lived, where we worked, whether or not we had a kid even, we knew that as long as we had each other every moment of our new lives would the most magical moment ever. The ups and the downs.

So when my wonderful Jahee walked down the isle the next day in her beautiful beige wedding gown, lace veil, and bouquet of roses surrounded by all our friends I knew the next chapter of our lives would be my favorite of the whole story.

The two lovers sealed their beautiful wedding vows with a kiss and lived happily ever after.

The next morning, Megan made scrambled eggs and bacon, humming a song from one of Iseul’s favorite 90s punk bands. Iseul came in from outside, where she'd been setting up their rain catcher, a disgruntled look on her face. "I accidentally slammed my fingers as I was trying to fit the funnel in." She grumbled, and Megan took her hands and kissed them. "Is that better?" She asked playfully. "Kind of, maybe if you kiss my lips too." Iseul said, grinning. "Okay, okay, Kang." Megan said, smiling as Iseul stroked her cheek.

Megan then made some rainbow galaxy unicorn tea while Iseul made coffee, and I had them get ready for a date night again. This time, they were going to Deadgrass Isle's museum, and Megan got dressed and freshened up in the mirror. She came out of the room and kissed Iseul before they broke apart. "Ready to go, Jagiya?" Iseul asked, her eyes soft as she looked at Megan. "Yup, let me just grab my purse, baby." Megan said, picking it up from the coffee table. "Okay, I'm ready." She said, and she and Iseul headed out, locking the door behind them as Megan slipped the keys into her purse and took Iseul's hand.
