Following my redesign of Mal, here’s my take on Evie from Descendants! 👑 I wanted her look to be contrast Mal and be a lot more polished since she’s royalty. I also leaned more into prim and princess-like based on her personality in the movie, but still maintaining dark elements in her aesthetic. I gave her a little skull makeup bag as a nod to the skull in her mother’s dungeon from the original film!

Mal's D1 arc of being an abused kid and learning what genuine love is, what truly makes her happy, and standing up to her mother, is a wonderful arc and god I wish they'd kept with it.
But making a majority of it rely on a love spell undercuts it so badly.

i know i posted a poll but i had vibes and had to draw them out
Tumblr media
tried to think 'd1 villain parents' designs for her, where the villains' are very close to the original designs n such the scribbles are gold embriody or however you spell it
also took a note from a suggestion from @thetimelordbatgirl, she mentioned a white skirt with red painted ends for the 'paint the white roses red' and i loved that idea and so i did it
also cape....cuz i can

doing a half-assed rewatch of D2 as i work on a fic but. a thought on the Cotillian fashions--
Uma's dress is much more complimentary of Ben's. She has the gold, in jewelry and accents, and the military-esque epaulets which compliment Ben's gold and military-esque jacket. They're both in mostly blue, sleek looks.
They feel coordinated and intentional, presenting a united but independent front/pairing.
Mal's dress, especially before her transformation (dragon and literal), is very... individual. Obviously part of her journey over the course of this movie is to learn how to balance two parts of herself.
But the complete juxtaposition of her dress next to Ben's really speaks to the way their relationship plays out. She has no gold, no blue. She has yellow and purple (and later purple and black and green). The yellow is the same yellow that Belle wears, rather than anything that Ben is wearing. She has voluminous skirts that take up space, literally separating her from her friends and from Ben.
Mal does not compromise with Ben, does not compromise her chosen identities. She maintains her individuality, even if it isolates her.
Staying true to yourself is a good message for a regular relationship, but as rulers, not as much.
And of course, Uma and Ben's coordination can speak to the spell Uma has Ben under. But both their costumes are true to their characters without any huge adjustments, where for Mal to match Ben it would have to be a very different dress.
So just some thoughts on how Mal and Uma are presented in juxtaposition to Ben at Cotillion.

not to descendants post but it's crazy to me people are still looking at the core four like "you should have saved and liberated the entire isle within a month of being in auradon" girl what. how much power do people realistically think they had over auradon for them to do this without being evil about it (which y'all also hate)

Finally, here’s the last villain kid of my Descendants redesigns, Jay! For his character, I imagined that Jafar implemented rougher parenting than Queen Grimhilde or Cruella, and subjected Jay to living the life of a street rat to toughen him up (I love the live action take on Jafar where he’s a social climber and started off like Aladdin as a street rat and a thief), give him the natural tools to fend for himself, and scrapping with brutes on the daily. I liked the idea that that would be where he naturally gets his athleticism and good instincts in his physicality. Any gold items and trinkets on his person are things he’s swiped from others, and unlike Carlos, because Jafar is exiled from the palace and without his genie magic, Jay hasn’t inherited any fineries for his wardrobe.

Random headcanons somewhat based on Rise of Red
- Royals in wonderland have a heart shaped birthmark
- Morgie is the Hook siblings other parent
- Uliana isn't the youngest out of her siblings, she's the middle child with Ursula being older and Morgana being younger
- When Chloe first told Chad she had crush on Red, he thought she was talking about the actual colour and not the girl, who he had met on multiple occasions
- Bridget had a crush on Ella (this is basically canon)
- Hades is at Merlin academy because it was the only way he could visit Maleficent without Zeus being on his back about why he's not in the underworld
- The villains started calling Morgana Le Fay "Madam Mim" after they heard that was what Merlin called her

More details about how the Isle kids cannot process or interpret emotions....

Yes to all of these.
Ginny doesn't even know what she's feeling.
Mal was raised to be a perfect copy of her mother. But she doesn't want to be her mother, she hates her mother, but she doesn't know what else she is besides a mini-Maleficent, so she hates herself too. Anything that's close to her, she pushes away, rejects, makes them as unlike her as possible. She did it with Maddy. She did it with Uma. She would have done it with Evie, eventually, if they hadn't gone to Auradon.
The only way Jay ever earned his father's approval was through stealing. Even years later, he'll habitually steal little trinkets to gift to Lonnie without even noticing.
Evie doesn't know how to have any relationship with anyone that isn't seducing a prince.
Sammy Smee was raised in an violent environment full of anger and shouting. Even once he was on Harriet's ship, well, Harriet also gets angry, and also shouts, because she was raised in that same environment. Sammy can't understand anything that isn't like that.
Freddie and Celia don't trust anything that's for free. Everything has to be for something. Everything is in exchange for something. No one is simply "friends" with anyone, they have to be getting something out of it. It's only a matter of figuring out what, and making sure you won't be left at a disadvantage. (And it can be inferred that Freddie and Celia had one of the better childhoods on the Isle, so if this is their view on relationships, imagine everyone else's!)
Squeaky and Squirmy trust Sammy to be their provider, their teacher, their caregiver, and no one else. They don't know how to relate to anyone who isn't him. They just sort of shut down. Not with their father, who loved them but never tried to protect them, not like Sammy did. At least Sammy tried. Not with the Hook siblings, who were always getting involved in various dangerous shenanigans and who scare them, just the tiniest bit, even though they also help them and take care of them. No one but Sammy.
Dizzy....Dizzy has two examples: Anthony and Lady Tremaine. (Her mother never even pretended to love her. Her aunt was too beaten down to show it.) Anthony loves her, and everyone knows this. But Anthony was raised to be a lord on an Isle full of the dregs of society, an Isle where everyone ridicules those with pretenses to greatness. Yet his grandmother insisted, and he doesn't know how to show anything but his facade. He tells Dizzy he loves her, and he does, but he speaks coldly, strictly, harshly. He rarely, if ever, shows anger. No outbursts of emotion; hardly any emotion at all. No raising his voice. No playing games, no hugs, none of the things Dizzy would like to do. And Lady Tremaine....she really barely feels any emotion at all, not anymore. Of course she loves Dizzy, she says. She's her grandmother. What kind of grandmother wouldn't love her granddaughter? If only Dizzy would do her chores quicker, better, quieter. If only she would behave well. Then she would surely show Dizzy that she loved her, more than just saying "Of course I love you Dizzy" without even a smile and sending her off to the salon. Or so Dizzy believes, anyway. Anthony has inherited far more of his behavior and mannerisms from his grandmother than he would like to believe.
And Claudine. You see, Frollo usually does not lose his temper. He rarely shouts or rages. He prides himself on keeping perfect control on his emotions. And so Claudine doesn't associate loud noises or shouting with his anger. No, she associates frighteningly calm voices, in an even tone, with no expression, excoriating her with the harshest of words. And of course she thinks she should be hurt. Anyone who cares about her would hurt her as a punishment, so she should learn to do better. She doesn't like it, of course, but it's what has to be done, right? Right?

My take on Uliana after the events is Merlin Academy
Uliana made it her mission to not only be the evilest sea witch, but the biggest and baddest villain Merlin Academy had ever seen. and she'd take revenge on anyone who put her reputation in question.
Soon, her determination would start aggravating other villains and she’d start to control more and more of them. However, as Maleficent grew to be eviler and less insecure as she said in Evil Like Me, as well as Uliana being wildly disliked by the other villains, they collectively used their power to seal her away for years. I like to believe Ursula even gave them the spell!
Then the Isle of the Lost would happen and FG would banish her as well. She would fight for control of the Isle but Maleficent would beat her, and the other villains would shun her so she isolated herself to the swamps, making her territory and making anyone who stepped for there regret it. She stayed in her swamp, planning her revenge not just against Beast, not just against Auradon, but all the villains who turned against her, especially Maleficent, Hades, and Hook
However Morgie stood by her always, adoring her, being her eyes and ears to the rest of the world. The only people Uliana allowed at here swamp were Morgie and Uma

pick a card, any card
"Pick a card," Celia Facilier demands. "Let my friends tell your future."
Mal, crammed in the backseat of the limo on Ben's other side, laughs. "Don't do it, Ben. She's just trying to scam you out of your money."
Celia's mouth drops open, theatrically scandalized at the accusation. "Moi? I would never, ever try to scam anyone, and I'm hurt you'd say such a thing."
She's so small. Her hands, on the cards she's fanning out in Ben's face, are bony. She's handling them well, but Ben remembers the feeling of cards too big and too stiff for his childhood hands to manage, and even though Celia is more comfortable with her cards than he's ever been, the strain shows in the way she tilts her hand to manage them all.
"Sure," Ben says, instead of listening to Mal. His beloved fiancee is wonderful and all, but sometimes she forget that he is, in fact, an adult who is more than capable of making his own decisions.  He loves her so much, and so deeply that it scares him sometimes, but the blind spots that come from growing up on the Isle are weird, and the issues that Mal has with trusting people aren't one of her best qualities, and definitely aren't ones that Ben wants to fall victim to himself. "I'll take one reading of my future, please."
Celia laughs.
She's so young.
"Tell me what you want to know," the kid in front of him says, reshuffling her cards quicker than the naked eye can follow. "Love advice? Money? Fame and fortune? What's your poison, King of Auradon?"
"No poison. The drought of love should be sweet." Ben says firmly. "I want to hear about my future love life."
"Ah." The cards fan out again, and Celia giggles. She sounds like Freddie when she does it, which is weirdly sweet. Not many of the Isle kids will admit to having family, so it's sort of nice when sisters or brothers do something, and they reveal that they're not so different after all. "Sweet it might be, but love can go sour at any moment. Pull one card."
Ben smiles. "Any card?"
"Not that one!" Celia squawks, wobbling the cards like she's going to jerk her hand back. "Just kidding. You can pull any card you want, but you have to feel it. Let my friends guide you."
Ben stops. "Feel the cards," he repeats. "Okay. I feel….” He lets his hand hang still for a moment. The cards are worn, or possibly painted to look worn. They look stiff and solid, not like they’re soft and crumbling on the edges despite their worn backs. They don’t feel like much of anything to him, but he’s always been empty of magic. It’s the one thing that his father has always been proud of.
Magic feeling and the lack thereof thoroughly investigated, Ben wiggles his fingers. One of the cards on the left is sticking out of alignment a bit, so he moves toward that one, and then rests his finger on the card before it. Any changes always have a root cause, so it feels right to pick the card before the odd one out. “This one?”
Celia lets him pull the card.
The rest of her deck snaps back together like a fan, and Celia’s hand shoots out, palm up. “Now hand it over. And also, that'll be five dollars, no refunds or exchanges if you don't like my advice after."
"A wise business practice," Ben agrees, shifting so he can pull out his wallet. Five dollars might be a scam on the isle, but it won't get her far in Auradon, and for showmanship and card control alone, she deserves at least double that. "Here you are."
Celia takes the fifty-dollar note between two fingers, and there's a half-second of hesitation where Ben can see her eyes flickering over the number on the folded bill. They're supposed to be taking her off the isle because of her potential for goodness. Scamming the king out of fifty dollars isn't a very good thing to do, but Ben is remembering right, the isle kids are too proud to ask for money when they need it. And she will need it, because coming over with nothing but the clothes and personal items she can fit in her suitcase isn’t going to be enough. Giving money to the isle kids outright is awkward, and Ben still has a scar on his shoulder from where Mal pulled a knife on him after he tried to buy her a car, but making Celia feel like she’s cheating him for it might be too much of a risk in this case, with her so brand new and unsure of how to fit it.
So.
"I don't carry anything less than fifty," Ben lies, smiling. "You can give me another reading later, if you're up for it. Call it fair?"
