not to descendants post but it's crazy to me people are still looking at the core four like "you should have saved and liberated the entire isle within a month of being in auradon" girl what. how much power do people realistically think they had over auradon for them to do this without being evil about it (which y'all also hate)

I feel like no one else in this fandom is feeling the absolute burning rage towards everyone in the cultivation world for what happened to Wei Wuxian and the Wens. Like even Lan Xichen. ESPECIALLY JIANG CHENG. I’m still not over it.

sometimes all a gal needs is a hug and a masked man singing oh and mY LOVE, DID I MISTAKE YOU FOR A SIGN FROM GOD? OR ARE YOU REALLY HERE TO CUT ME OFF? OR MAYBE JUST TO TURN ME ON? ‘CAUSE THESE DAYS, I WOULD BE LYING IF I TOLD YOU THAT I DIDN’T WISH THAT I COULD BE YOUR MAN OR MAYBE MAKE A GOOD GIRL BAD, y’know?

Genuine question here, as someone who is ethnically Jewish.
What does being a Zionist mean?
I keep hearing people accuse anyone who has a neutral stance on the war of being a Zionist and that “being neutral means being on the side of the oppressor”, but that doesn’t make sense to me?
I looked it up and Zionism is apparently “the movement for the self-determination and statehood for the Jewish people in their ancestral homeland, the land of Israel.” But I don’t understand how being against the actions done on both sides means you support the Israeli government? What?
I don’t like the Israeli government. I don’t like Hamas. Both sides have caused the deaths of many, many innocent people. Depending on the recent actions of either side might make me condemn one or the other more in the moment, both I think most can agree that both are at least somewhat in the wrong for how they’ve carried out this war, despite the intentions behind their actions.
The people of both Palestine and Israel are who I sympathize with. Both have gotten dragged into this mess by those in charge and both deserve protection. I sympathize with both seeing this territory as their homeland and wish there was some way to resolve this issue peacefully without fucking over either side, despite that not seeming possible at the moment. If I had to choose where to place my stance, I’d say I’m neutral. But why is that controversial? This is what I don’t understand.
Genuinely, if someone can explain to me what the fuck is going on with this political debate I will be forever thankful.

okay so Steve is a Sports Guy so would obviously be watching the olympics when the roll around. But Eddie would get into one of the one of the more obscure sports.
Steve would come over to Eddie's and Eddie would be on the edge of the couch shouting criticisms like 'NO, NO! COME ON! THAT RIBBON SNAP WAS PATHETIC! Those judges are BLIND' and shushing Steve when he threatens to make a noise by even just closing the door. Steve wanders over, places a kiss on Eddie's head but gets batted away, getting in the way of Eddie's view. Laughing, Steve sits down as the event ends and they wait for the next one to start 'so what are we watching?'
'Denmark about to play women's double but they are looking pretty tired and I'm pretty sure there's some drama between the teams. They've definitely slept together and one of them has feelings but the other doesn't. Ref is involved too, I swear. Now shut up.'
Steve grabs a handfull of chips from the bag abandoned by Eddie's thigh and settles back, not sure if he wants to watch the match or his boyfriend. It takes one game for Steve to get passionately invested. This leads to Wayne coming home to the pair of them standing on the furniture yelling at each other
'HOW CAN YOU AGREE WITH THAT POINT? IT WAS CLEARLY OUT OF THE LINES!'
'ARE YOU BLIND STEVE? ARE YOU? BECAUSE IT WAS IN AND THE JUDGES AGREE SO FUCK OFF!'

I can see your whole history in your eyes. You were born with nothing. So you've had to struggle and connive and claw your way to power. But true power, the divine right to rule, is something you're born with. The fact is, they don't know which one of us is going to be sitting on that throne and which of us is going to be bowing down. But I know, and you know.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
while azula’s speech to long feng in this scene is indisputably iconic and powerful, it is also blatantly wrong. azula cites “the divine right to rule” as her prerogative to take the earth kingdom throne over long feng in their vie for power, but the divinity of the monarchy is a hollow justification for the existence of any given monarchy in the first place, not some ontological imperative that demands certain families seize and maintain power. centuries ago, azula’s ancestors claimed power over the fire nation, and her belief system is the product of the rhetoric they created after the fact to justify their power and influence over the state, and some time later, sozin’s imperialist doctrine that it is also the fire nation’s prerogative to colonize other states beyond their accepted borders. what makes this moment so effective is that azula truly believes the imperialist rhetoric she spouts in this intimidating monologue, as it was the creed she was born into – but as we are plainly shown throughout the show, her belief system is wrong, and she possesses no inherent, divine superiority over others. her facade of power, strength, and domination ultimately guards an empty myth, a lie that nearly destroyed the entire world.
BUT.
out of context, her words are not entirely wrong.

unlike in our world, wherein the existence of divine power(s) cannot ever be truly proven, the spirit world not only demonstrably exists, but is eminently accessible. only because of aang’s century-long stasis in the iceberg was there ever any doubt of the avatar’s return, reducing the spiritual/cultural/political/global significance of the avatar to a myth, and plunging the world into unrest, chaos, and despair. but the world of avatar itself spans a vast history, in which aang’s era is merely a blip. he is but one reincarnation is the vast line of avatars, the bridge between the human and spirit worlds, the bringer of balance, chosen by the spirits. if anyone has an ontological, divinely-necessitated influence over the world, it is not the fire nation royal family: it is, quite plainly, the avatar.

It drives me absolutely crazy the way I’ve seen people claiming Hamnet made the “wrong” choice by running to the jungle. He was not given the luxury of a right choice and a wrong choice. He could have stayed in Regalia, where his mother would have forced him to commit more atrocities, or left everything and everyone he had ever loved behind so he wouldn’t have to spill more innocent blood. Code of Claw illustrates very clearly how much power Solovet had over his life and the way she used that power to abuse him.

shipping renkaza fucking sucks because you either get people who hate real enemies to lovers and call it toxic or pr*ship because they actually are enemies who want to kill each other instead of friends who bicker sometimes (these people are the weakest link and will not survive the winter)
or you get people who do ship it but only in the gooner dumbing-it-down-to-hardcore-porn way where they romanticize and get off to abuse and r*pe (these people are just gross sick individuals and i hope they go extinct)
and the few people who do see the emotional depth in the homoerotic minutes renkaza spent together and the potential in that for top tier doomed yaoi are few and far in between and i rarely find good fics that aren't just insanely ooc porn

Anime Maka vs Manga Maka
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is there anything more to say?
But nah, I know I will be accused of cherry picking, and yeah I know there are many manga moments that show Maka being more simmilar to the Anime Gif in demeanor, but I dunno, I think the point still stands:
I think it's another reason where the manga falters in my opinion, people dont often discuss it, but to me it just seems Maka is reduced to this weird "uwu kawaii" thing (lol dont even how to call it without ruffing too many feathers) - and people will try to respond "Well shenis cutesy in the anime too!" , and I think thats the point: cute vs "kawaii" - yeah its a weird way of describing it, but its the best dichothomie I can come up with - the first is not creepy, like seeing your kids find a new bug and excitedly showing it to you like its the biggest discovery in the world, get what I mean?
While "kawaii" is one reason why I dont really consider myselfs an "anime and manga fan" in general (yeah Im full of contradictions dont gotta tell me lol, but maybe thats why its post anime...not...)
Like you know what I mean - like these weird idol anime with overly glossy eyes and shroedingers "is it supposed to be cute and childish or sexualised* tone (maybe I'm spoiling to much the iceberg and my negative opinion of SE Not...)
Like its not even me trying to say "Oh I hate all cutesy stuff", nah I genuinely like the Maka Crona moments for that fact, but ,I atleast I hop,e there are different from the standard anime thing which has those creepy undertones like all these "uwu senpai wants to sleep in the same bed with me??!" like you know these scenes arent written for girls of the depicted ages but for and by 40 year old greassy guys with guilty consiousnesses...
But I dunno, even beyond my own paranoai of if a piece of media is supposed to appeal to a certain "demographic", I just think there is something lost in manga Maka, especially compared to her earlier charachterization and the animes continuation of it.
I think the last time where you really saw it in the manga was around the Arachne madness chapter where she confidently just stretched out her arm to Soul. Idk. People will probably think that I mean "wow, you want Maka to be some fearless badass!!?" and nah, I dunno, maybe Im just fighting phantoms, but I dunno I think there is something there, mayb even something my own stupid story failed to capture, but that what made the whole "bravery" thing at the end work.
But maybe the iceberg will explain it all...

Okay. So. I had a whole 1700+ word essay written about my thoughts on too many bl fans assuming actors are straight but it was very uhhh rant formatted and got too heated so I’m gonna try again and be a little more chill and concise abt it…
Let me get straight to the point. I didn’t mention fanservice or shipping real people in that little post I made (I wasn’t expecting it to get any notes tbh lmao) but that’s very much related to what I’m talking about. In my experience, being vehemently against fanservice and rps goes hand in hand with assuming these actors are straight which is of course heteronormativity (homophobia!).
Fanservice & shipping are a vital part to the bl ecosystem, and they aren’t going away any time soon. And I don’t mean because it’s great for promoting a product or an upcoming series (which, yes, it can be, not denying that) but fanservice, in fact, queers our perception of “truth” and “reality” when it comes to these actors’ lives. When an actor is purposefully vague about their relationship or sexuality, they’re able to simultaneously not put themselves at risk by being “out” in a more traditional/upfront (perhaps western…) sense while also being capable of being perceived as queer to some degree by their audience. Infinite homosexuality glitch! Shippers are important because they play a role in believing their fav bl couple are together for real aka they are gay for real (also it’s just fun to do…). Yes, some people overstep boundaries but for the most part people are capable of being respectful.
I see a lot of people say bl actors are absolutely not dating each other and 99% of them are straight and probably even homophobic etc. constantly but like… who told you that? If anything, a job where you’re perceived as gay while still being not out enough (having such a hard time phrasing what I mean by this lol) to keep your safety would be way more appealing to literal queer people right? And surely most actors know what they’re getting into by partaking? Yes there can be issues with fanservice, rps, etc. but I can’t help but notice everyone seems to be focused on the issues and never the benefits. Assuming the majority of bl actors are straight is just plain homophobic, and I might argue it’s counterproductive to resist and say it’s “none of my business” when they’re purposefully going out of their way to make it our business (if you’re not into fanservice/shipping that’s fine whatever but what I’m saying is they are trying to make a point to be visibly queer on some level). Yeah, not everyone is gay, I know. But I have a good feeling there’s a lot more queer people in the industry than most people assume.

Really wish younger fandom kids/adults would be aware that if a community gets big enough, there's /always/ going to be problematic people/content in it. Like.
If you have more than 1000 people in a group, you're gonna have racists, pedos, etc. There's always gonna be shitty people in the mix. But that doesn't mean the community at-large is bad if the focus of the community is something unrelated to these harmful people.
I've seen 'this fandom/community is toxic' more times than I can count, when in the end, every fandom/community has toxic parts. Every single one. To reduce a community's whole down to one of its parts is reductive and harmful, and often chases out the good people because they feel guilty by association.
Anyways. Be kind to your communities. Allow them to grow up. Be the good parts you apparently want to see in it. But don't go tearing apart the chicken coop because of a few bad eggs.
