Cheers to Heartstopper for being one of the very few teen romance shows that doesn't make a big deal out of prom. Like yes, the characters are excited about making a grand entrance with cute outfits..... But that's literally all there is to it. Prom isn't life-changing, it's quite frankly boring, as Charlie mentioned. I loved how the group ditched prom and went to Nick's place to have fun.
Okay but like you don't get it. Unless you really do.
Issac wanting to believe in romance. Issac reading romance books nonstop. Issac not knowing how he feels toward James. Issac feeling out at parties cuz everyone is making out. Issac's hurt eyes when everyone runs down the hallway with their partner and the way his eyes shine when Tara looks after him. Issac's voice when he asks James if he has a crush on him. Issac running away when James kissed him. Issac's one tear right after that. Issac losing it with his friends cuz everyone has romantic expectations about him. Issac admiring the aroace piece and connecting with it without knowing what it means. Issac holding that book against his chest as if his life depended on it.
Was just rewatching heartstopper s1 ep2, when I noticed this detail. Tao, Issac and Elle all have a separate group chat from Charlie, I'm assuming to talk separately when Charlie's sad to make him feel better.
At first I thought "Aww thats so cute, they're such good friends." But, that means Charlie gets sad so often they literally had to make a entire separate group chat just to talk about helping him feel better. God this breaks my heart.
Hey guys, I’m making a documentary on fandom and romantic/sexual love for a school project and I thought I might as well post here for some ideas from the masses
I’d also love to hear any opinions on fandom and shipping (real or fictional people). The main focus of my documentary will be on how the media we consume might be pushing the prioritization of romantic/sexual love (and even ~romanticizing it~… pun intended).
Talk to me about shipping wars, or aroace characters and how the few we have are heavily shipped, or when people go too far (like threatening creators), or anything else that crosses your mind on the topic of fandom and shipping
i'm reading all these heartstopper fics because i love found family and queer community but like,, most of them forget issac exists (in the fics based on the show). and i'm just like. ofc they forget the one canonical aroace character. either this or they barely mebtion him because obviously friendships are below relationships. amatonormitivity is so frustrating.
anyways if anyone has any fics exploring aromantic characters (in heartstopper, or any other fandom) pls let me know.
can i just say i love how y/n coded issac was this season. he's effortlessly beautiful. he's getting amazing grades. he's standing up for himself when he needs to. he's curious about the world around him and himself. he knows who he is. he has no idea who he is. everyone is a little in love with him. he brings a book to a party.
I can't believe this isn't just a gay summer but an aspec summer. Like. Aroace Barbie. Ace Ineffable Husbands. Issac's aroace storyline. My brain is malfunctioning it doesn't know what to do with so much representation relating to media is new to me
I’m not even done with the episode but the way that Crush Culture by Conan Gray is playing in the background of the scene where issac talks to the person who explains their experience being aromantic and asexual is so genius. Like the way issac felt like there was something wrong with him for not liking James and that he hasn’t had a crush on anyone yet because he’s waiting for the right person to come along and then when he understands that there is nothing wrong with him, Crush Culture plays in the background. A song all about how it sucks feeling pressured into having to like people just because it’s what everyone else seems to be doing.
Hearing the word aromantic being said on a show as major as heartstopper is so important to me, like that was actually such a monumental moment for us Aros because pretty much all of our rep in mainstream media is word of god or just heavily implied and it just means so much to me
