This blog does not normally do fictives.
However, we are considering introducing a sourcelist someday, and we happen to have a lot of inspiration surrounding Ghost BC's recent update. Consider this an example of what a template of a fictive would be like if we opened up requests for them!
Additionally, we don't know if fictive templates would always be longer than non-fictive templates or if they would always have details about how they feel about their source. We were just really inspired with this one and thought it would make sense to add extra info for a fictive.

[Brought to you by: Mods Vyvian and Onyx!]
π HEADMATE TEMPLATE βΎοΈ
β¦ Name(s): Perpetua, Parzok, Pestilence β¦ Pronouns: he/him, it/its, vi/vir/virs/virself, v/vs/vself, e/em/eir/eirs/emself, ci/cir/cirs/cirself β¦ Species: alterhuman β¦ Age: 54 β¦ Role(s): DPD holder, spiritual headmate, delusion holder, identity holder, naturalist β¦ Labels: nebularomantic, veldian, kenochoric, othellic, GNC β¦ Xenos: eternity, comfort, flowers β¦ Interests/likes: black and white movies, forests, stim toys β¦ Dislikes: disruptions to its schedule β¦ Music taste: doom metal, post-punk, synthpop β¦ Aesthetic(s): voidcore, baroque aesthetic, art deco β¦ Objectum attraction(s): knives, crystals, flowers β¦ Kins: Quintessence Ghouls, roses, melanistic foxes β¦ Emoji proxy: πβΎοΈ β¦ Details:
Perpetua was raised by Catholics and initially became a priest, but he left the Catholic Church in favor of the Church of Ghost, a Satanist organization. He has DPD, which has influenced his religious path; his decision to turn to Satanism was influenced by someone he was dependent on (a fellow priest who secretly and then publicly deconverted and went to the Church of Ghost). However, he now holds Satanist beliefs genuinely and practices the system's spiritual practices surrounding Satan. Perpetua also holds the system's religious/spiritual delusions, namely that there is some secret knowledge or power inside the system that will come out someday. In his timeline, he developed this delusion as a young adult and learned to cope with it, but when he became Papa Emeritus V, the delusion became worse. He may therefore have some anxiety surrounding updates to his source, while overall being source-positive. He also doesn't always know how to interact with fictives of the other Papas or Sister Imperator, but he has an affinity for Ghoul fictives. Perpetua is a nebularomantic gay man who only develops romantic attraction to people he is dependent on. He holds the system's conflicting feelings about being gay, including the fact that they feel like their attraction to the same gender is a mental illness. He was born human, but he feels disconnected from his bodily humanity, and when he met the Nameless Ghouls, he started identifying more with them. His connection with non-humanity extends to a connection to the natural world, which he spends a lot of time in.
[These can be edited and changed as needed, and headmates will almost definitely not turn out EXACTLY as described.]
#templatepost#so. i debated if i should post this. because we split him while making this. but i'm going ahead with it anyway.#this template doesn't mention the things about our fictive that are the most specific to us anyway#also if you notice some terzo-esque things. i compare and contrast them in my AUs#alter packs#headmate packs#build an alter#build a headmate#create an alter#create a headmate#alter creation#headmate creation#source: original#media: ghost#introject: yes#species: alterhuman#age: adult#adult themes: no#roles: dpd holder#roles: pd holder#roles: holder#roles: symptom holder#roles: spiritual headmate#roles: delusion holder#roles: identity holder#roles: naturalist#themes: disorders#themes: spiritual#themes: queer

wow!!! august was a pretty stacked month for new releases and it seems like september will be pretty busy too. there were quite a few great records this month - one being my current album of the year. also trying out a new format so these posts will be easier to navigate. i've started linking to the full reviews on my rym page instead of just pasting them over here. i figure it's much easier to get through that way!! to check out my thoughts on some of the songs that dropped this month click here!!! also feel free to follow me on rate your music and twitter <3
Imaginal Disk - Magdalena Bay
π₯ BEST ALBUM OF THE MONTH
β released: Aug. 23, 2024 β genres: neo-psychedelia, synthpop, chillwave, dance-pop
to call it a triumph would be an understatement, the sophomore album from Magdalena Bay is a delicately detailed experience that doubles as an immensely enjoyable pop record. to put it simply, i'm feeling diskinserted πΏ

Sky Hundred - Parannoul
β released: Aug. 3, 2024 β genres: shoegaze, noise pop, emo, indietronica
on his strongest album yet, Parannoul further refines his sound without sacrificing the scrappiness that made his music so endearing in the first place. my review of Sky Hundred

NO NAME - Jack White
β released: July 19, 2024 / Aug. 2, 2024 β genres: garage rock revival, hard rock, garage punk

Wild God - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
β released: Aug. 30, 2024 β genres: singer-songwriter, art rock, gospel, baroque pop
unlike the more meditative approach of 2019's Ghosteen, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds return with a renewed sense of urgency and a striking crop of songs that are sure to make u feel something. my review of Wild God

cheshire days - ashley ninelives
β released: Aug. 10, 2024 β genres: glitch pop, neo-psychedelia, synthpop

Romance - Fontaines D.C.
β released: Aug. 23, 2024 β genres: indie rock, alternative rock, post-britpop
Fontaines D.C. shed their gothic veneer in favor of warmer sounds on their new record, while unfortunately stumbling into style over substance territory amidst a few incredible tunes.

Flight b741 - King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
β released: Aug. 9, 2024 β genres: boogie rock, roots rock, blues rock
the refreshing collaborative spirit of this new King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard record is its biggest strength, but not enough to make this an essential project in their vast discography. my review of Flight b741

Paradise State of Mind - Foster the People
β released: Aug. 16, 2024 β genres: synthpop, nu-disco, chillwave
the fourth album from Foster the People, my favorite band when i was in 6th grade, is an existential ode to synth funk and disco of the 70s/80s that sounds great, but doesn't leave much of a lasting impression.
my review of Paradise State of Mind

Quantum Baby - Tinashe
β released: Aug. 16, 2024 β genres: alternative r&b, trap soul, pop rap
the second installment in Tinashe's BB/ANG3L trilogy is a substantial step down from the first primarily due to its reliance on more mainstream pop/r&b sounds.
my review of Quantum Baby

Cellophane Memories - Chrystabell & David Lynch
β released: Aug. 2, 2024 β genres: ambient pop, ethereal wave, ambient, drone
David Lynch always has a strong vision for what he wants to convey in his art, but unfortunately, this new collaboration with Chrystabell isn't one of his most worthwhile endeavors. my review of Cellophane Memories

Short n' Sweet - Sabrina Carpenter
β released: Aug. 23, 2024 β genre: pop
Sabrina Carpenter's new album should be a bold statement priming her to be the next big thing, but instead it just falls into the same exhausted clichΓ©s we've all come to expect with big mainstream pop releases.
my review of Short n' Sweet
βββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Aghori mhori mei - Smashing Pumpkins
β released: Aug. 2, 2024 β genre: alternative rock
Smashing Pumpkins' surprise new album isn't as horrible as their garish rock opera ATUM, but it's just as self-indulgent and outright boring as what weβve come to expect from the band.
my review of Aghori mhori mei

F-1 Trillion (Long Bed) - Post Malone
β released: Aug. 16, 2024 β genres: contemporary country, country pop
Post Malone sticks out like a sore thumb in every genre he inhabits and that continues to be the case with his first full-length country album - his worst record thus far by a considerable margin.

Vultures 2 - Ye & Ty Dolla $ign
β released: Aug. 3, 2024 β genres: pop rap, trap, alternative r&b
Ye and Ty Dolla Sign return with a disastrous album full of anthems for divorced dads who were most certainly in the wrong.

Popular Monster - Falling in Reverse
β released: Aug. 16, 2024 β genres: alternative metal, trap, rap metal

this section will be used on occasion to briefly discuss projects i didn't write full reviews for, but i still think are worth checking out. beginning with ...
Sophcore - Moses Sumney
A decent EP, but I would be lying if I said I was a little letdown. Still very pleasant on the ears, just lacking in substance. Sumney still has a very striking voice. Here's hoping the next project is a bit more substantial.
βββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Some Songs I Wish I Wrote Vol. 1 - This Is The Glasshouse
I didn't have high expectations for a covers EP, but this one really floored me. I really loved his album from last year, As Small As Ants, and it seems as though he's only getting better. He has a really good ear for layered instrumentation, it's certainly this EP's strongest aspect. The arrangements for his cover of Xiu Xiu's "Sad Pony Guerilla Girl" and Steve Reich's "Clapping Music" were big highlights in particular. Definitely give this a listen!
βββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
The Vault - Maruja
A few months after their Connla's Well EP, Maruja surprise dropped a compilation full of improv jam sessions. It's a bit of an undertaking, but for those who are fans of the band this is definitely a treat. There are so many cool instrumental passages here and it brilliantly showcases how many brilliant ideas are swarming around when the band is in the studio. Their chemistry is off the charts. Here's hoping we get some weird jam stuff on their full-lenght debut, whenever that comes out.
βββββββββββββββββββββββββββ thanks for reading :3

Female & Female fronted Alternative Music List
I tried to compile some of the female musicians and female fronted bands I like. I didn't include extremely well known bands like Arch Enemy or Bikini Kill in this list, since you probably know them anyway. I don't know all of the listed bands super well, but tried to at least roughly backround check them.
I will add to the list in the future probably (I especially want to add more acts in different languages) and would love to hear your suggestions! βΊ
Metal
Myrkur (Folk/Black Metal, female solo artist)
Ashtar (Black Metal, female solo artist since 2023)
Gallhammer (Black/Doom Metal, female duo)
Astarte (Black Metal, all female band)
Asagraum (Black Metal, all female band)
Chelsea Wolfe (Noise Rock/Doom Metal, female solo artist, also part of female duo Mrs. Piss)
King Woman (Doom Metal/Experimental Noise, solo project of Kristina Esfandiari, who has a bunch of other projects as well)
Darkher (Gothic Metal, female fronted)
Folterkammer* (Black/Opera Metal, female fronted)
Bathsheba (Doom Metal, female fronted)
Hela (Doom Metal, female fronted)
Generally if you are looking for female fronted metal you are most likely to find it in Doom, Gothic, Folk, Power and Opera Metal.
*Disclaimer about Folterkammer because they sing in German: Personally I love their first album (Die Lederpredigt) with it's varying lyrical themes, many of which are about some sort of malicious female devil. However the singles from "Weibermacht" (Women's Might) seems to be mostly about BDSM, which is very disappinting to me personally.
Rock/Punk
Deap Valley (Alt/Garage Rock, all female band)
Gully Boys (Indie/Punk/Garage, all female band)
Nostalghia (Alt Rock, female solo artist)
Emma Ruth Rundle (Post-Rock, female solo artist)
Jack off Jill (Alt Rock/Riot Grrrl, all female band)
Queenadreena (Alt Rock, almost all female band)
The Huntress and Holder of Hands (Post-Metal/Alt Rock, partly female band)
Angelfish (Alt rock, female fronted by Shirley Manson of Garbage)
Rosegarden Funeral Party (Post-Punk, female fronted)
Throwing Muses (Alt Rock, female fronted)
Darkwave/Electronica
Hante. (Darkwave, female solo artist, also part of all female duo Minuit Machine)
Kælan Mikla (Darkwave/Coldwave, all female band)
Void Vision (Darkwave/synth, female solo artist)
Sally Dige (Darkwave, female solo artist)
Winter Severity Index (Coldwave, all female band)
Alice Glass (Electronic, female solo artist)
Foie Gras (Noise/Drone, female solo project)
Honorable Mentions & Artists I Didn't Know Where Else To Put
Kaleida (Synthpop, female duo)
NINA (Synthwave/Synthpop, female solo artist)
Fifi Rong (Alt Pop, female solo artist)
Makthaverskan (Indie Pop/Post-Punk, female fronted)
Corpo-Mente (Dark Opera?, female fronted)
Emilie Autumn (Electronica/Classical/Industrial, female solo artist)
Josie Pace (Alt Rock/Industrial Pop, female solo artist)

Today's mix:
Fuse Presents HellΒ by Hell 2000 House / Techno / Deep House / Electro / New Wave
Goddamn, man, I'm not gonna say outright that this mix in particular is the greatest shit in the worldβalthough it's pretty close!βbut the ethos behind it certainly represents what has ultimately led to some of the most astonishing sets that we've ever had the pleasure of witnessing as a species. There's this late 70s-and-80s-rooted spirit that's equal parts unpredictable and eclectic, in which the overall route of the set doesn't feel pre-planned at all, because the DJ takes risks by linking tracks together that you yourself wouldΒ neverΒ expect to hear in succession. The overall journey from point A to point B that you get taken on is one that's long and winding and full of surprises, and the DJ themselves doesn't really have any particular destination in mind to begin with either, because the perpetual question that's always most immediately on their mind is, "hmm, what banger do I want to play next?Β π€"
And I feel like this flying-by-the-seat-of-its-pants approach to DJing has largely faded from the limelight and has gradually been replaced by either the DJ who specializes in one specific dance subgenre that's in one specific range of BPMs for a whole set, or the DJ who just plays mindless EDM claptrap from a pre-loaded USB stick π. All of it's so safe and hermetically sealed shut. Where's the danger, the fun, and variety of it all?
See, what you really have to understand here is that there was no place on the planet that was more sonically diverse than your typical late 70s and 80s dancefloor. House, freestyle, synthpop, disco, hi-NRG, pop, post-disco, art punk, art rock, art pop, electro, hip hop, funk, boogie, post-punk, new wave, dance-pop, dancehall, two-tone ska, glam rock, sophisti-pop, soul, alternative dance, R&B, etc., etc., etc., all had the potential to be played at any given moment during a set, and the ultimate job of the DJ was to craft a breathtaking sonic collage out ofΒ anyΒ of it.
And that's exactly what Germany's DJ Hell channeled here with this commercial mix from 2000 for the second ever installment in Belgian club Fuse's own series. But what's more is that while Hell was deriving his inspiration from an attitude of a bygone era, he also happened to have about an extra decade of music at his disposal that his spiritual predecessors didn't. And the 90s ended up seeing a mega-expansion on the frontiers of electronic and dance music entirely, so while Hell certainly picks out his classics from super popular acts like Donna Summer and Frankie Goes to Hollywood, on here you're also gonna find stuff from contemporary dance legends like Todd Terry and Carl Craig, different flavors of rock from Tuxedomoon, Sparks, and the Flying Lizards, Brazilian-sampled techno from Andrew McLauchlan, and deep house from Bougie Soliterre. In reality, almost none of this track list makes any lick of sense on paper, but that's the inherent beauty of the whole thing, folks! Once you put it on and get a taste of Orange Lemon's (Todd Terry's) "Extended Club Mix" of "The Texican," you really start to get a feel for the vision that's been laid out here, and it's one that's mindbendingly motley, and more in the vein of how a lot of old DJ sets used to be!
The best DJs to me are the ones who appear to be doing it purely off the dome and are just living right in the moment while barely thinking ahead. They know how to wow a crowd with a memorable blend of classics, a contemporary hit, and obscurities from any decade, place, or genre, but they make adjustments if and when they feel the need to as well. And above all else, they possess an uncanny ability to play songs that you don't see comingβor that you never even knew existed in the first placeβwhile also convincing you that the choice they made is one that's both thrilling and logically sound. It's a tough act to balance, like a halftime gimmick who rides a unicycle and spins plates on a long rod that sits on their chin while also juggling bowling pins, but DJ Hell is someone who clearly has the knack for it and puts it on full display here.
The world could always use more of this kind of DJing in it, especially when so many of us now have access to more music than we know what to do with that's all sitting right at our fingertips.
And by the way, I didn't really get into specific tracks with this post here, but "Desire," by 69, which is just aΒ niceΒ alias that was used by Carl Craig, is one of the most stunning combinations of string synth and drum break that I think I've ever heard in my life. Good lord, what a tune that is! π€―
Listen to the full mix here.
Highlights:
Speedy J - "Evolution" Ché - "The Incident (Wet Dream Mix)" Orange Lemon - "The Texican (Extended Club Mix)" Liaisons Dangereuses - "Avant-Après Mars" Tuxedomoon - "What Use" 69 - "Desire" Mitsu - "Shylight" Donna Summer - "I Feel Love (Patrick Cowley Megamix)" Sparks - "Beat the Clock" Phuture - "Rise From Your Grave (Wake Side)" Foremost Poets - "Pressin On" Bougie Soliterre - "Superficial (Main Vocal Mix)" G Strings - "The Land of Dreams" Frankie Goes to Hollywood - "Two Tribes (Annihilator Mix)" Dopplereffekt - "Rocket Scientist" Andrew Mc Laughlan - "Love Story" Filippo "Naughty" Moscatello - "Disco Volante" The Flying Lizards - "Steam Away"

i wrote this post two months ago, but i was thinking about how much i love music on accident again and now i'm going to make an incredibly self-indulgent and unwarranted post on music i think that krew+opal in a modern au would enjoy based on music i like.
opal would definitely love lamp and other j-indie bossa-nova/jazz/folk sounding types β ichiko aoba/kaneko ayano/fishmans/nujabes come to mind. she also gives sweet trip/panchiko and adrianne lenker. she'd possibly like norah jones/jolie holland in a different sphere. i think she'd be into more experimental flavor of black country, new road/black midi/kero kero bonito. she'd like the city-pop in anri and j-pop like aimyon.
asami also seems like she would like lamp, though to a lesser extent than opal, and probably romantic-era classical music (specifically, chopin). she'd be a slowcore duster/bedhead/mazzy star type, and probably love dream-pop beach house too. she'd be a secret fan of jazz-punk/noise midori and in japanese shoegaze-alternative flavor with plastic girl in the closet/kinokoteikoku/my dead girlfriend, and i can see her being into either nick drake or psychedelic rock β something mildly high, probably. i can see her liking suzanne vega/fiona apple/aimee mann a lot too. i think that between her and opal, they'd have the most music-nerd music taste. idk how to express itβ¦ that rym sort of music taste haha
mako is either the type to say "i don't listen to music", or if he does, he gives straight face while listening to crunchy noise and ambient deeply miserable-edgy, like nouns/teen suicide/have a nice life. he'd enjoy high quality japanese jazz-instrumental math rock like mouse on keys/fox capture plan/t-square, but i think he'd also have a guilty pleasure for the mildly-adjacent, crappy midwest emo. not sure why, maybe it's the album covers and names, but he really gives parannoul. he has the energy of a british new-wave the smiths/radiohead/the cure kind of guy. he's probably prone to get too deep in his feelings in sujfan stevens/giles corey. i think like opal, he'd enjoy big thief/adrianne lenker a lot too.
korra would like pop-punk and alternative a lot and also rnb, maybe korean rnb like jiwoo/miso. but she'd love pup/paramore/sorority noise a lot and i think she'd also be fan of jazz-punk/noise sound in midori, and also accidentally nu-metal loathe/tool/slipknot. i feel like she'd really like the synthpop in magdalena bay and she too would vibe to anri a lot. i think she'd be a fan of emo in unconcentrated forms only (specifically los campesinos!), or maybe also power pop. i could imagine her enjoying certain flavors of breakcore and electronic and for some reason i see her liking nirvana/red hot chilli peppers/the smashing pumpkins. all in all, mostly anything that's more upbeat and has energy to it. she'd probably be a mitski listener at certain times too, in all honesty.
bolin's more pop/rock and probably some alternative, though i think he'd lean more towards ok go/cracker/camper van beethoven/modest mouse. i can also see him liking vampire weekend/the postal services/death cab for cuties a lot. i feel like he would secretly enjoy mako's british-new-wave flavor but refuse to admit it to the general populace because he is an independent man! he also gives they might be giants/jukebox the ghost/ben folds five fan, aka sounds-like-children's-music-but-is-kinda-messed-up piano-rock-esque (it epitomizes him), and upbeat neo-psychedelia animal collective is just very bolin. i also see him casually enjoying the shins and the 1975.
i think that among them, there'd be a mutual enjoyment of lamp (most of all opal/asami/mako in that order) and mitski (with bolin being the only outlier in the mitski department lol). i think that if they were ever put in a car together they would never not play there is a light that never goes out and that they'd all be a fan of any music involving car crashes actually. i can't really imagine any of them outside of opal liking folk or any of them outside of korra liking any form of metal and i don't see any hyperpop in their energy sorry lol. only asami and mako seem like they would really like instrumental stuff, though different spheres of it. actually i think the two of them would overlap the most in music taste for some reason (with opal in the same arena), even if the examples i provided don't have a lot of overlap lol, followed by korra and bolin.
#lychee's brain trash#lok#opal lok#asami sato#mako lok#korra#bolin lok#this is one of the most self indulgent posts of all time tbh#it's basically just me blasting my music taste but through characters so i don't look like a music nerd#β¦ my last fm is a mess please don't look at it#(please talk to me about music)#woah i think this is the first straight out hc post i've made hm

Odd Foxes + Modern Music
(This is in reference to what the Foxes think in the years between 2010 and 2023). AS A WHOLE: It'd be an idiotic thing to suggest that given their 44-year-long existence as a band that Odd Foxes wouldn't have at least influenced some modern bands & artists at some point. Tim often argues that he can't hear their influence, but he, like the others, appreciate some of the covers of their songs that have been released over the years. The most popular Odd Foxes song that's been covered is Untoward - which has had everything from a screamo cover to an acoustic 'reimagining' for a John Lewis advert (in universe). They've also been influenced by the modern (alternative) sounds for their own songs in more recent times, because they like evolving their sound in such a way that they, as a band, end up being tagged as 'timeless'. ART: Being quite set in his ways, Art quite likes the punkier sounding bands that are in the scene nowadays. Between the mid-90s and now, he's been very into the pop punk scene with his favourite 'modern' bands being somewhere along the lines of Blink-182, Neck Deep, and The Story So Far. Of course, he's still a bigger fan of the original punk bands from his youth, but you will find pop punk classics from the late 90s, 00s, and even as recently as the 10s in his record collection. He's seen Blink-182 live at least once (in universe) and he's quoted as saying that they're 'loud, fast, and funny as fuck' (his favourite member is Mark). TIM: Tim's always liked literally everything musically -- yes, literally everything, including country music -- so it comes as no surprise that his modern tastes range in vast variety... But that doesn't mean that he doesn't have his favourites. He's particularly fond of modern synthpop artists/bands and electronic-based bands - things like Lights, LΕ«n, EDDIE, Gunship - but also has a soft spot for indie rock/pop bands like Bastille and The Wombats. FRANK: As established before in a previous lore post, Frank is a big fan of folk music and his favourite modern bands tend to follow that sort of line with exception for his britpop favourites like Blur, Pulp, and suchlike. His favourite modern bands that he'd gotten into at some point in the late 10s include To Kill A King and Childcare - having gotten into them after seeing the former support Bastille when he'd gone to see them (in universe) with Tim and James. JAMES: Of the four, James is the one with the 'hardest' modern tastes, finding himself drawn more to bands like La Dispute, Senses Fail, Pianos Become The Teeth, Funeral For A Friend, and others with that sort of vibe. He does sometimes slipstream into metal/metalcore on the odd occasion as well. In saying that, though, his 'guilty pleasures' in terms of modern bands would be Bastille - of whom he has high opinions, recently citing Bad Blood and Give Me The Future as some of his favourite modern albums. He's even branched out on his social media with a drum cover of Pompeii (in universe), giving it his own James Martin SpinTM in the process.

Introductory post
Hello, my name is Lloyd (he/him), I am going to use this blog as a diary blog, so I probably won't follow or interact with a lot of people. It is mainly a writing exercise/public diary blog, I might now be regular in my posts. Here is some information about me.
-I live in the Conwy area with my dad, although I have lived in Salford most of my life.
-I have a small group of friends and a boyfriend.
-I play violin (grade 5), piano, and guitar, but I have never been properly taught or graded on piano or guitar, I have learned various bits from my dad/online.
-I am politically left wing.
-I am 15 (but turning 16 next month) and in year 11. My favourite subjects are history and literature, I like music too but I find music GCSE quite demanding, so I will not be taking it a level. I am taking history, biology, English language and English literature.
-My hobbies are learning about history and mythology/folklore (I have a specific interest in Vikings, The Cold War, Celtic and English Medieval history, and I am interested in mostly Celtic, Chinese, Slavic and Norse mythology and folklore), listening to music (especially punk and its subgenres, britpop, synthpop, goth, new wave and indie), watching Soviet films, going on walks, playing video games, visiting museums, baking, writing, playing my violin, playing DND and reading.
-My favourite food is tagliatelle with spicy red pesto.
-I used to play football, which I like to think I was alright at. I was quite good at fencing though, which I also used to do.
-I have been told I type quite formally/obnoxiously, sorry if I come across as sarcastic.
-I like learning about animals, especially deep sea ones, but I also love reptiles too. And prehistoric ones like dinosaurs.
-I am autistic.
-I speak English, I can hold a conversation in Welsh and Dutch (my grandad was from The Netherlands), I am also trying to learn some Icelandic and Russian.
-I am and have been raised Quaker.
-I like to collect vinyls, cassettes, VHS, DVDs, CDs, coins, old magazines, rocks/gemstones, dice and squishmallows.
-My parents were never married and I do not have a lot of contact with my mam, although (despite what many people seem to assume) I don't mind it this way, we were never very close and I think it was for the best that she did not raise me. I am in pretty regular contact with my older half sister (mams side) though.
-I have a leopard gecko named Speck for coming up to 8 years! It is his 'birthday' soon, and last year we got a kitten (our neighbours cat had kittens and they gave us one) he is an adorable white longhair and I named him Fyodor.
-When I am older, I would like to be either a librarian, historian, writer or archivist.
-The 5 historical figures I like the most/find the most interesting are Holy Roman Empress Consort Matilda, Stanislav Petrov, Queen Boudica, Dick Turpin (yes, this interest started at age 7 when I saw Matthew Batyon as him on horrible histories...) and Egil SkallagrΓmsson
-My 5 favourite bands are Joy Division, Agatha Christie, New Model Army, The Pogues and A-ha. Honourable mention to Manic Street Preachers.
-My 5 favourite films are The Ascent, Apocalypse Now, Tsar Ivan The Terrible I & II (1944, although I like the 1991 one as well, love Dimitri Pisarenko in it), The Lighthouse and 24 Hour Party People. Honourable mention to Porridge.
-My 5 favourite books are Frankenstein, The Secret History, The Picture Of Dorian Grey, To Kill A Kingdom and Eragon. Honourable mention to Lord Of Rings, Endless Night and Philip Larkins Poetry.
-My 5 favourite Ps4 games are Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Fallout 76 and The Sims 4. Honourable mention to Minecraft.
-My 5 favourite gemstones are labradorite, peridot, nephrite, bixbite, and star ruby. Honourable mention to watermelon tourmaline.
-My 5 favourite TV shows are Doctor Who, M*A*S*H, The Young Ones, Seventeen Moments Of Spring, Lockwood & Co (don't judge me). Honourable mention to Vikings.
-My 5 favourite mythological/folklore figures are SkaΓ°i, NjΓΆrΓ°r, The Lady Of The Lake (from the Authurian legend, but I find all ladies of all lakes cool), Badb and Leshy. Honourable mentions to Baba Yaga and Xiwangmu. Probably a good time to mention that I don't practice paganism/wicca/anything similar, while I have the upmost respect for people who do, I am simply interested in the stories and mythology.

same folks that are like 'I'm overwhelmed by the speed at which So Many Words are coming At Me' have no problem memorising and singing "Arabella's got some interstellar gator skin boots/And a helter-skelter 'round her little finger, and I ride it endlessly/She's got a Barbarella silver swimsuit/And when she needs to shelter from reality, she takes a dip in my daydreams"
The same people had no trouble spending hours trying to memorise Eminem's Rap God. The same white people were rapping along to Red Hot Chili Peppers songs for the last 30 years.
All the while, it's worth pointing out that genius.com has existed for years (and started as 'rapgenius.com', incidentally), and azlyrics.com has always been your friend. Use it. Find out the meanings behind those songs. If you can empathise with someone driving country roads home to Tennessee (or let's be honest, over half of Tumblr's fanbase seems to be American so this may be a better example), or with some 19 y/o boy getting shitfaced drunk in the north of England, you can find something that resonates with you by a Compton or Brooklyn boy.
Also, most people that complain about being uncomfortable with the themes with in rap music, are referring exclusively to about 50 songs that have been talked about the most and are most popular. It would be like if someone said 'all white people sing about is breaking up with their boyfriends and about strong coffee'. That's only two artists (or two songs), you realise that now, right?
Find other songs. There are so many posts listing different songs and artists who sing about a variety of themes, same as with any style of music.
Some folks talk about their upbringing, about growing up in times of poverty, about misogyny, about their dedication to their music and wanting to make it to the top, about wanting to spend time with their friends and have a good time, about playing FIFA, about loving their partners; about how they always need to present themselves with a certain amount of refinedness and dignity because of how they would be perceived by society if they didn't. They sing and rap about police brutality, about how eating healthy is a form of protest. The rappers out there are punks, they are indie kids, they are hip hop kids, they are blues lovers, soul music fans, gospel enjoyers, synthpop-heads; they are street kids, working class kids, middle class kids, they are literally musicians as any others are.
'Rap music' as a whole is about spoken word poetry that goes on top of a beat or instrumental. There are literally 0 limitations on what genre that instrumental can be. Anything you like, there's smoeone out there performing rap music with. What is stopping you.
genuinely it does make me insane how every time a post blows up that's like "hey y'all should try listening to rap, here's a playlist to get you started π" my fellow whites come rushing out of the woodwork to explain that they have a little known but fatal condition wherein if they can't understand every individual lyric in a song on the first listen they'll throw up blood until they die
#thing that also gets me is people who will be like *encounters spoken word* 'well acshually i like when people still had talent? And sang?'#and then when they do hear some singing they're like 'ugh everyone is emo these days' WHAT do you want#I am lucky I follow lovely people and I have sensible mutuals so i don't have to see these takes on my tumblr dash very often#but people out there have built mental Berlin walls they're trying to climb

frankcore april 2024 update!!
monthly playlist, monthly post, sorry i'm too twitterpilled and i tend to be stingy with reblogs here idk. anyhow, this month's update is even more guitar music heavy than the last one, and i can't say i'm very happy about it!!!!! (/lh /hj i'm just mad because i spent years shitting on rock while simultaneously listening to rock and other adjacent genres and now people can call me out for it) it also doesn't help that this is my messiest month in terms of structure of the playlist and track selection, though there are some patterns in here.
for one, there's a fair bit of indie pop, specifically twee pop for the most part but with a few outliers such as hazards by great area, (which is more in line with the whole hypnagogic pop sound of artists like dean blunt and lolina (fka inga copeland), latter of which owns the label that song was released on, but also with some trip hop influences) and follow the light by broadcast (more ambient pop-esque than some of their other tracks i've heard, bit more hypnotic both in atmosphere and theme, i would say). of course, you've got heavenly, one of the most important acts related to the twee sound, then there's the softies that (as far as i can tell, i'm not actually super knowledgeable in the genre still lol) go in a more subdued direction with not as much punk influences as other acts like the aforementioned heavenly or another sunny day, and last but not least, my irl friends' band: cosas raras pasarΓ‘n! it's been around a year and a half or so of going to every gig they've done so far, seeing them evolving and honing their craft as time has gone on, and i couldn't be happier to see them finally releasing at least a bit of what they've done so far to the public at large, it warms my heart and i'm very excited for whatever comes in the future <3 this last point leads me to the next subset of tracks i'd like to single out: there's a bit more music from my country as well this time around! firstly, sandwiched in between the twee pop tracks at the start of the playlist (this sorting-by-bpm approach is not working as well as i would like, turns out), ΒΏquiΓ©n me defenderΓ‘ de tu belleza? by amigovio, solo project from the former lead singer of indie pop group carmen sandiego, where it's mainly taking cues from synthpop and adjacent sounds, reminding me a bit of the approach javiera mena had towards pop and indie intersections during the esquemas juveniles era (very much a positive). and secondly, kira1312 and guitarbaby's fastcar, a very solid pop rap / r&b crossover with production that feels very in line with a lot of the edm trap sounds around the mid-2010s, think artists like sam gellaitry or monte booker, which is something that feels very unique and singular in the scene, it's a style that's definitely guitarbaby's own and it makes me interested in whatever she's dropping in the future. as for the pop and r&b side, occupying a large chunk on the list also: a folky and classical influenced art pop / singer-songwriter offering from clarissa connelly (the whole album is pretty damn good, but the opening track here is straight up stunning); delightful k-pop and city pop crossover from loona's spiritual subunit artms (essentially a rework of haseul's plastic candy from last year, which was one of my favourite tracks from that year, but a very welcome flip still); the lead single off of tinashe's upcoming project, a sequel to last year's excellent bb//ang3l, and heading in the direction of the club-ready trap knocks of needs from that album; submerged house and r&b from dawn richard with impossibly memorable vocal snippets (that "do you love me... anymore..." vocal got stuck in my head for the whole month after it came up on shuffle) and atmospheric production; a taste of ms. xcx's upcoming album and a very obvious addition to this month's list, i mean, come on, it's charli AND gesaffelstein on production, of course i'm going to love it; the comeback of the ever mysterious and ellusive r&b vocalist clara la san, once again delivering on her particular blend of cloudy, ambient-like production and wispy yet alluring vocals; a very solid blend of modern 2-step production with synthwork and melodies that draw inspiration from 80s sophisti-pop and contemporary r&b from bautibit; and finally a crossover of pop, footwork and accelerated funk br from duda beat, genre globetrotter that still manages to bring everything together well for catchy and compelling pop compositions.
over on the electronic side: a woozy collage of r&b idioms, dubby atmospheres, ragga vocals and broken drum beats, courtesy of the seekersinternational crew (their no parasites ep from last year is almost always in rotation for me, it's just absolutely gripping stuff for me); the comeback of mr. jamie xx, finally rolling out stuff for the release of his upcoming album, featuring an impossibly charming old-school house groove accompanied by some classic horns and vocal chops; psychedelic breakbeat to hope for a better tomorrow while seeing the sunrise to from vegyn and lauren auder; and finally mind-blowingly complex post-everything-club sound design from fitnesss (hopefully a teaser for an upcoming LP? pretty please?) and lag switch as well as little snake.
elsewhere: a couple of tracks from the new british rock / punk scene that nerds on the internet love to talk about, represented by fontaines dc and black midi; my favourite drain gang related track of the month and the competition was pretty tough believe it or not considering all they dropped during the month (it was a tossup between tldr and the track bladee and ecco did with varg2β’, ultimately picked the former because it's crazy to hear ecco rap again after a long time); wonderfully jangly yet somber and melancholic midwest emo from germany, courtesy of the short-lived group 125 rue montmartre; and finally, probably the most baffling inclusion on the list, suffocate by knocked loose and poppy, i think this might be the first time i have anything metal related on these lists, but i don't know, this one just really works for me: it's rhythmically super interesting and engaging (the reggaeton breakdown!!!!) and the vocals hit that sweet spot for me where i find the tone of the screams appealing, which is sort of a make-or-break when it comes to this kinda stuff for me.
non-dsp available highlight of the month is 90 down the block by xaviersobased, i'm still yet to hear a full project from his but i can definitely understand the hype behind him, in the way that he incorporates the rhythms of late 2000s rap into more modern plugg and cloud rap production, all wrapped together into a dizzyingly loose and carefree sound that's incredibly interesting
tube it!!!

I haven't been listening to a lot of new stuff, mostly whatever interesting I found in weekly discoveries... anyways useless tier list
Last place: Yanderechainsawreguration-Absence of Normalcy(Death Slam metal): I've been trying to get into slam... let's just say that it is so mid that for a while I gave up. While I genuinely love the first song, the initial shock value quickly fades away in the mist of repetitive riffs and boring vocals. Also it could have been saved if it used more anime samples in a more "serious" tone (ie. like how they're used in Heavier than your manga collection and in Rotting body Dakimakura)
7th place: Rose McDowall-Cut with the Cake Knife (Synthpop): It's good. I don't usually listen to pop, but stuff like this makes me happy. I don't know something about how the vocals are mixed makes me feel like a dolphin jumping in the air.
6th place: Sorry...-Innocence. love. sadness. (DSBM/Post Punk): Tbh this is more post punk than DSBM, BUT this might be the reason why it is um... how should I say... doesn't suck ass. The depressive lyrics are actual lyrics instead of ear piercing groans and the instruments are actually instruments. Has a great vibe, not always in rotation, but always a solid pick.
5th place: Carcass-Necrotism(Death metal): They riffed. Probably not my favourite death metal record, but still a great album.
4th place: Wormrot-Voices(grindcore): YEEEEEEEEEESSSSS. I mean it's Wormrot what else I could say that's new :)
3th place: Emperor-In The Nightside Eclipse(Black metal/Symphonic black metal): I have a soft spot for black metal if I'm honest. This album almost fits that spot perfectly. Also it takes the symphonic part and runs a mile with it, the way how I like it. My only issue might be that the vocals are a bit quite sometimes.
2th place: System of a Down-Toxicity(Nu/Alternative metal): Album so good that I bought it in vinyl at the first chance I could.
1th place: The Jimi Hendrix Experience-Electric Lady Land(Psychedelic Rock/Blues Rock): The fuck else am I supposed to say that others have said a million times? Just listen through it already βΊ:(

Kyle is a cat-human hybrid, having a mostly human body with the ears, tail, claws, fangs, and whiskers of a black cat. He is fascinated by morbid topics like death sciences and historical executions, but also psychology, especially of the disorders that the symptom has, as Kyle is a symptom holder for any mood or personality disorders the system have. Kyle uses masculine terms (e.g. "boyfriend") as well as cat-related ones (e.g. "catfriend"). His disconnect from humanity in favor of cats is very important to him, and he considers himself a black cat therian as well as an identity holder for the system's alterhumanity. Like a cat, Kyle has a silly and chaotic side that occasionally results in things like practical jokes that don't go as planned but otherwise helps lighten the mood of the system.
[These can be edited and changed as needed, and headmates will almost definitely not turn out EXACTLY as described.]

Little context. I LOVE listening to music. Especially electronic music. And more if it is dark. Funnily enough, I used to only actively listen to Video Game Music. It wasn't until high school and a friend introducing me to animation memes where I ended up listening to more music.
And I can thank a CERTAIN musician who has popular songs and, at that time, their work being so used for animation memes... I can thank that certain artist for making me expand more of my love for electronic music...
BUT.
I'm going to rant a little bit about STILL being broken hearted over the fact that one of my favorite musicians did horrible things. And I need to ramble about it because, Goddammit, Forrest...
Yes. The artist I'll rant about is Mr. Kitty.
TW// Grooming
I remember finding out his music through animation memes, and I was initially intimidated yet mesmerized by the dark ambient in his music, and I ended up embracing it.
His music resonated with me during the horrible abusive relationship that I was in. ESPECIALLY "Destruction of Us". That song represented FULLY the relationship I was in, and listening to that song was and still is THE vent song for me. When I listen to it, brings me catharsis. I also drew vent art with that song in mind, as well as other songs.
Also, his music made me realize how much I REALLY love electronic music. I ended up listening to more music, like Synthwave, Darkwave... Especially Darkwave and darker music. (The pipeline from his music, ending with me liking Post-Punk and more darkwave artists like Mareux. As well as me liking more general Electronic music like Synthpop)
How fan I was of that guy? I followed his Birdsite AND IG accounts. And I watched his online concerts that he did in 2020! And I even participated on the live chats! (And I remember being sad of missing one because I had to play 100%OJ with my friends... and a certain one who I don't know if I should talk about yet because YIKES, he was another regret story...)
It sounds clichΓ© (and kinda toxic) to say that his music saved me? But I can say that his music saved my sanity to go even deeper into darkness during those horrible times.
How did I find out the horrible things he did?
I remember I stopped listening to his music because I was more listening to other artists (Both normal and vent-listening). I kinda forgot about him.
I was on Instagram when he uploaded a story, and I was like "Oh! I forgot about you!". Then I saw that he doesn't allow comments now. And I was like "Huh. That's weird. Maybe he got annoyed by nagging fans like in Youtube." Same feelings when I decided to listening to his music (revitalizing my love for his discography in the process...) and I noticed that he also disabled the comment sections, again. (I remember that he disabled the comments before but later reopened those... Only to then to disabled those again)
Time passed, and Astrophysics uploaded his After Dark cover with Miku, which is an excellent cover, btw. I really loved this cover. THEN I checked the comments... OH, this is where I found out that he groomed a teenager fan... I never knew about that controversy and I didnβt saw his posts confirming what he did, because again, even if I was following him, I didn't got his posts. (I didnβt helped that I read that he deleted those posts... What a dick move, as well as blocking the comments in response of the whole deal...)
Days before writing this post, I decided to check on his Wikipedia page and INDEED, Controversies page. There's the grooming incident.
...I was devastated back then, and still I am.
The worst thing is... I LOVE his songs, those have the perfect style for me. And again, those songs helping me during my darkest period of my life...
A groomer's music helped me deal with my darkest period in time, especially with me being in abusive relationship with a a-hole who asked for my heart when I was 15/16, and he was 18/19...
OH THE IRONY.
The thoughts of "I want to listen to his music. I love his songs" are in constant conflict with the thought of "I don't want to support him!".
[INTERNALLY SCREAMING]
(Although, from what I read, is that his ex will receive the streaming money? I'm really glad that's the case. Although there's the issue that Forrest's still making music. I'll not listen to those new tracks, though- Now that I think about it, HOW'S possible that he's, not only still making music, but also now under a different label? Did the new label didn't cared of the whole grooming fiasco?)
At least in the song aspect, I replaced his music with Mareux. In the vent aspect, Post-Punk.
I'm sorry for this rant. I need recommendations of Darkwave or similar music genres/musicians or... How can I deal with this conundrum...
And I'll finish this post with this.
Goddammit, Forrest...
(Random rambling, when writing a big part of this rant, I'm listening to Astrophysics' Miku Cover of After Dark. It's really that good)
#Also I read that from here that he also supported an anti vaxxer??? HUH???#elec ramblings#elec talks about music#Elec rants#tw grooming

1980s Synthpop Playlist (YouTube)
Tiny update this week for this great and eclectic playlist that I'm slowly continuing to build up over on YouTube, with a somewhat obscure add from the legendary UK synthpop/new wave/post-punk/alternative dance band New Order. Back in 1986, these guys released their fourth album, Brotherhood, and on that album was a terrific piece of intense electro-influenced synthpop called "Angel Dust." However, in that same year, "Angel Dust" would receive a largely instrumental remix treatment too, called "Evil Dust," and that remix would never actually appear on a New Order album until a re-release of Brotherhood in 2008.
Where "Evil Dust" did first appear though, was on a 1986 various artist compilation called Funky Alternatives Volume 1 that was released in the UK on a label called Concrete Productions. And in 1988, the song would also re-appear on a CD-video single for one of New Order's biggest ever hits, "True Faith," of which only 6,000 copies were ever pressed. And then in the mid-to-late 90s, the song would find itself on a handful of other budget various artist comps too, including a 1997 double-disc called Hypnotic State, put out by the usually not great, California-based Hypnotic Records, which is where I first encountered it.
So, for such a highly beloved, revolutionary, and era-defining band, this New Order song currently only has just under 30,000 plays on YouTube across a handful of uploads, which is very low, considering just how massive and devoted their fanbase is!
New Order - "Evil Dust"
And this playlist is also on YouTube Music.
So, as it currently stands, we're now at 11 songs in this playlist that end up totaling 55 minutes. And there's a couple terrific tracks on here that are nowhere to be found on Spotify too: the "Pecky Plus mix" of Glasgow band Secession's "The Magician," and one of my most favorite synthpop tunes of all time, the "Kalimba mix" of German band Cetu Javu's "Have in Mind," which feels like a quintessential closeout/roll-credits type of tune for any kind of 80s-set coming-of-age flick π.
More to come, eventually. Stay tuned!
Like what you hear? Follow me onΒ SpotifyΒ andΒ YouTubeΒ for more cool playlists and uploads!

Man there is this weird historical revisionism that happens with terminally onlineΒ βaltβ posers where they like, assume that all the cool underground alt counterculture stuff of decades past were easily accessible within the mainstream and nowadays itβs been suppressed or hidden or is even entirely nonexistent in favor of theΒ βlameβ mainstream media. And like, I have said before and will say again and again that there is PLENTY to criticize regarding the entertainment industry and arts as a whole in the 21st century, it has not just been some forwards progression of positive change and improvement and I know that, but it also just frustrates me ENDLESSLY because the reality is the things yβall are idolizing were NOT mainstream. You were not guaranteed to walk down the street in the 80s and hear gothic rock and industrial or even more accessible synthpop that remains popular today, there was plenty of absolute shit music in the 80s lol. Movies were not just inherently better 20-30-40 years ago and in fact plentyyyy of major blockbuster hits absolutely sucked shit and there was an insane amount of garbage being manufactured by corrupt production companies. Fashion was not all cute GNC boys with long hair and eyeliner or whatever. It was not like some safehaven for queer gendernonconformity it was LITERALLY the AIDS crisis. And the stuff yβall are idolizing are now extremely popular in hindsight! Everybody knows Nine Inch Nails and The Cure and The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Hellraiser! This is household name media!
I just constantly see posts that are likeΒ βback then there was UNDERGROUND COUNTERCULTURE EVERYWHERE and now all we have is TikTok and Taylor Swift and MarvelΒ ππ‘β and honestly it makes you sound like clowns. You are not finding the underground counterculture because it is fucking underground. The stuff youβre consuming from years ago withstood the tests of time. But there were not goth clubs lining every street corner and cool cult classics coming out every fucking week back in the day lol. This stuff was considered underground, alternative, cult, etc for a reason. You are comparing the most successful underground media from decades ago with mainstream media of today and honestly all it actually reveals is that you donβt really care about keeping underground art alive and uplifting the artists who are doing so now in modern time, or even have the knowledge of how to do so. You arenβt finding todayβsΒ βundergroundβ subcultures because THEY ARE UNDERGROUND. It takes effort beyond looking at whatβs trending on social media or whatβs getting major theatrical releases. You have to engage with music that is not even on Spotify, film that at best may run the festival circuit. And, frankly, some of yβall have wildly rose tinted glasses about what good art is and are judgmental as fuck of anything that forces you to expand your horizons-- Alt music genres have a huge amount of fusion within them now. Deal with it. Lots of yβall sound genuinely racist with your aversion to alt music drawing more and more inspiration from rap and hip hop. CGI is a relatively accessible and still very experimental art form with tons of potential and many poor or indie artists are experimenting with it. Deal with it. CGI is not inherently evil or ugly. Genres evolve and sounds change. Back then plenty of the experimental stuff that we find cool now was made with dogshit quality because it was just people scraping together the few resources they could afford to make something. You only think itβs better because itβs older lol. You are the alt TikTok NIN fan Hot Topic equivalent of people who think they were born in the wrong generation because their idea of the 50s is poodle skirts and milkshakes at checkered diners.
I would be less of a cunt about this topic if the result was not a staggering amount of people calling themselves fucked up deranged alt punk gothic freaks only to turn around and quite literally say that there is no longer an alternative/underground subculture and that capitalism has destroyed any semblance of independent or experimental art because they are not fucking looking for it. Which in turn shits on so many struggling indie creators desperately trying to get their art out there within an increasingly tumultuous, hostile, anti-artist landscape of capitalist modern society. Engaging with underground work does actually require digging for it. The underground work you are engaging with from the past is literally no longer underground. If you exclusively enjoy alt music from the 70s or 80s or exclusively enjoy oldschool cult classics that is FINE but I better not seeΒ βback in the 80s we had Cronenberg and Carpenter and now we only have Marvel and Star Wars :( Why did they get Bauhaus and now we only get Billie Eilish? Why is there no more community, no more subculture, no more actual interesting art?β as if these are normal comparisons and actual reasonable observations rather than an admittance of your lack of understanding of the way that underground art actually evolves or even a desire to seek it out. Problems with modern industries aside, with social media and the internet and the improvement of technology like personal cameras and digital art programs both creating and finding independent art is EASIER now than EVER in many ways. You can discover enough music to last you your entire life from the comfort of your IPHONE.
