Watched the First 4 Episodes of the PJO Series, Here are My Thoughts:

Cast:

I absolutely love the cast!! They are just so perfect for their roles!! I've seen my fair share of clips and behind the scenes footage to know the chemistry between the actors and how perfectly the main trio embodies their characters, but actually seeing their acting and how well they fit together just makes sense in my brain!! They're all so small as well and adorable that it really puts it into perspective how young they truly are to be going through all of this and the things the characters go through as the books progress. It hurts but it's also endears you more to the actors and the characters.

Walker is just absolutely perfect as Percy. He's such a little shit and the way he delivers his lines, whether they're angry/emotional/sad or just comedic, is simply amazing!

Although I don't have an issue with Lin Manuel Miranda as a person (I absolutely love his works and stuff) it does not make sense to cast him as Hermes, and that's just going off the elevator scene when he delivers the package! Like I honestly can't imagine this man as Luke's father :// It could've been better.

But the others are just great! Their energy is amazing and omg Mr. D was a blast! It's a much different portrayal than I was expecting since Mr. D is so chill and like aloof in the books, but seeing him yell and stuff at Percy to take on the quest just made me look at him in a new light!!

Filming/Aesthetics:

Every scene is shot so beautifully! And the choices they made with the places they add the music too!! Like the entire fight with the Minotaur being void of music was such a good choice. It just makes the entire scene so much more emotionally charged and tense while keeping the audience on the edge of their seat!! It was filmed so well and god it transported me to how it felt like when I read the books for the first time and went through that scene~

And omg the scene with Sally just sitting in the rain on the windowsill :(( That one was so soft and sad istg- any scene with Sally was just perfect, love her and the actress who did such a good job with her!!

Changes from the Books:

It's been around 5 or so?? years since I last read the books, so my recollection of what actually happened and what didn't was a bit fuzzy while watching the series but I was able to see how things changed. And so far, I don't mind the changes that much, like yes some had me staring at the screen like "hm" because they wetn a different way than I was expecting, but overall not too bad!

I did enjoy the scenes with Medusa, I liked having Percy wanting to hear her out and trusting to follow her inside because of what Sally had told him when he was a kid. I liked the conversations between Percy and her in the kitchen and even when she was explaining her side of the story to the trio. It was such a good way to present the scene, to show her resentment of both Athena and Posiedon, and also to show how she interacts with Percy to lure him in and play on his trusting and albeit naive nature at that point in the quest.

I did see people talking about episode 8 and the big reveal tho and I'm both excited to see it but also wary of the change they added cause I've seen a lot of mixed reactions. Some prefer the book version, some the version in the series.

General Thoughts:

I'm honestly enjoying the series, it's exciting seeing it all come to life and the dynamics and just sitting there in anticipation of what's to come.

I'm currently watching it with my big sis and let me tell y'all it's so much fun!! She hasn't read the books so all she knows is purely from when we watched the movies together a long time ago so she doesnt remember much (but unfortunately the big reveal at the end isn't going to be a surprise for her). I'm having the time of my life being a little shit and laughing at her confusion or whenever she'd start yelling "WHAT" at the screen like when Sally dissapeared HAHAHA she keeps turning to me and trying to come to conclusions and theories for things while I just smile or shake my head at outrageous ones. I am excited to see her reactions to certain scenes in the other books, especially when it comes to a certain someones end in the last book (she does not like him rn so I'm like 👀 rn to see if that might change along the way).

Uncle Rick did such a good job with the series so far and I'm excited to watch the rest of it, especially now that news of it being renewed for season 2 came out HEHEHE

February wrap up ✨

I read 4 books last month, and just in case, there may be some spoilers. I could've read more, but I wanted to read fanfics too, and I won't count those.

1. Babel - 5/5

Listen, this book changed my brain chemistry in ways I can't explain. I may even like it better than TSOA. It made me fall in love with translation even more (I know that wasn't the point, but it's what I want my career to be). Robin's character development was shocking but expected, and it's one of the best things I have ever witnessed. Victoire deserved her freedom, I love her. Letitia (I will only refer to her by her government name) deserves torture (I wasn't surprised by what she did, but it hurt). Ramy deserves to be cherished by the one who loves him the most (if you know, you know). I also fell in love with Graham. I need his back story because I didn't get enough. I obviously cried, and I couldn't seem to get the song "We Are Young" out of my head on the last chapter (not Victoire's POV).

2. Daisy Jones and The Six - 5/5

I only read this now because the show was coming out and I have no words. How can you make me fall in love with a song that does not exist? Huh? Every female character is just amazing, but Daisy... Daisy is the best. Idc. And Billy... Istg I hated him at times, he was a less shitty Mick Riva, but still, a Mick Riva. Camila deserves better, but she is an independent woman who can choose for herself and we love her for that. I cried so much with the SNL performance, like... I was getting my heart broken from 3 different perspectives, and I don't know how I will be able to live through that on the show. All I know is that if I don't cry, it wasn't a good adaptation.

3/4. Daughter of the Pirate King and Daughter of the Siren Queen - 3.5/5

I read this duology back to back and I'M GLAD I DID! Pirates? Sirens? Murder? Enemies/rivals to lovers? Tension and bickering turned make out sessions? Count me IN. I liked both books for different reasons, but Alosa is everything I like in a female protagonist. I want a Riden fpr myself, thank you very much. I already know how I imagine him, and I like it. The only reason the score isn't higher is because I wanted more of their relationship.

Istg it altered my brain chemistry forever

I was already aware I probably wasn't straight as young as like 6 years old but by 2009, as I was a freshman in highschool, I watched this performance and went "oh". Then I would spend 2010-2013 realizing what the differences between bisexuality and pansexuality and it's safe to say I lean more pan.

As for being nonbinary, it took a long time to come to terms with simply because being a 7 year old girl with facial hair & being forced to conform my whole life has put me under so much trauma & bs offline. Had the pandemic not happened, had I not interacted with medical professionals who asked if I could be intersex {I'm not btw, had to do ultrasounds and shit}, & not been around other adults who like me for me & allow me to bring it up- I think I would still be grappling with it.

But the day I confirmed I wasn't intersex (after spending a few weeks wondering if I really was nonbinary), I spent a whole 8hrs trying to relocate this video because I couldn't remember the song name and concert; then I rewatched it to see if how I felt at 14/15 years old was still the same. "Why would a cis man make me not straight?" "Why when I tell others about this specific performance they don't get it?" "Did I mis-remember that performance?" had been questions that internally chewed away at me until roughly a year ago. I resonated with the story, the low key drag performance, & honestly would still give anything to be Kame-chan in that moment

So in short, figure out what was the show, character, story, song, person, thing, etc. that gave you the epiphany that you're not straight and think about why you resonated with it- especially if you're unsure if you're trans or nonbinary. What shaped you as a child really does subconsciously guide you as an adult.

Things I Liked About The Haikyuu!! English Dub Pt. 2: Electric Boogaloo

Oikawa

- Oh, Chris Patton, thank you for doing my favorite overworked brat justice

- I can’t imagine it’s easy to perfectly toe the line between “petty and pride-filled” and “prodigious, yet self-loathing”. But, somehow, it’s been done quite well

- Forgive me for using vague terms, but I love the way his voice stays at the back of his throat, but still keeps a breathy quality

- “SoRrY pAl, I dOn’T sPeAk StUpId.” You fucking b r a t I love you

- Being able to further disassociate it from Iwaizumi’s voice in the dub was something I didn’t know I needed

- His more serious moments are also done pretty well

Iwaizumi

- “Not as much as I hate pretty boys like you that get all the girls.” IwaOi shippers everywhere are crying joyously in unison

- As perpetually “tsun tsun” Iwa’s voice is, it does a good job of aggressively caring about others in one way or another

- “Loserkawa”, “Lazykawa”, and “Shittykawa”. Mans says this in the span of ten seconds

- Not me vehemently simping for him because of this different vocal interpretation

- I’m just glad that his voice isn’t that low or grungy, just very “angrily sensible”

- Also “If you catch a cold, I’m totally kicking your ass!”

Kuroo

- Yet another dub fans like to shit on and I can’t wrap my head around why???

- Sure he has his less than perfect moments, but who can overlook gold like: “Don’t say that! It’s an insult to healthy food.” and “Umm...congratulations??”

- I mean the alternating clarity and gravellyness of his voice in different scenes bring together the fact that he’s an S-Tier Dork™️ and Jerk™️ with valuable moments of Third Year Wisdom™️

- And his tone has such good chemistry with Bokuto’s when they banter with each other

- Alternatively, the contrast Kuroo’s voice has with Tsukishima’s gives me a warm feeling I can’t exactly explain

- And when he wants to instill an unmistakable feeling of fear in someone, that demonic range can do it

Yaku

- I actually kinda like this particular Deeper Voiced Libero

- I only say that because Yaku’s already got a reputation as the “Demon Senpai”. And his voice has the range to perfectly nail the “demon” and the “senpai” parts

- The contrast he has with Kuroo’s voice is oddly satisfying to me

- “Did you just say you’re tired??” and “Wow,,,I’ve never seen Kenma be as outgoing as he is now...:’D” carry such strong maternal connotations and I love that

- Oddly enough, his timbre is similar to Lev's. But, the way both actors have to use their voices separates the characters well enough for me

- Also his little grunts when he physically abuses someone :')

Kenma

- Ah yes, a shining example of a single voice transcending continental boundaries. (Legit though, why are both voices so similar???)

- Save some differences in pitch, Kenma's voice is the one that most closely matches its sub counterpart

- But the way his and Kuroo's voices blend (or lack thereof) make me feel some type of way...Like is there something y'all need to tell me? (I.e. "You shouldn’t wander off like that⛓😒" "Sorry🙄" like huuuuh???)

- "Later, okay?" Catch me dying of cuteness over here

- Whenever Kenma gives that intimidating cat-eyed look, I think the actor made a good choice in making him sound the slightest bit cheeky. As though he was amused by the subject at hand. Scares me shitless every time

- HIS CUTE LITTLE YAWNS I LOVE HIM-

Lev

- HAIBA YOU'RE SUCH A FUCKING DORK AND YOUR VOICE ONLY MAKES IT WORSE (by which I mean better)

- The way he talks gives off a socially unintelligent quality. Like, he just says what he means without a thought of getting busted in the kneecaps afterwards. It's so blunt and cute, I love it

- "HINATAAA, YOU ANY TALLER YET??" No he's not Lev, you know he's sensitive about that 😭

- The slight raspiness his voice has also ages his voice up, without making him sound old (if you catch my drift). His body has matured, but his brain sure hasn't

- Istg I'm SO GLAD they didn't give Lev a russian accent Yuri on Ice!! style. Do you really think this guy is smart enough to pick up and maintain two language skillsets??

- Literally any time he insults someone accidentally

The function of efforts

That’s right I stole the title of the ep to name my post i’m shameless lol, because Joonsoo’s efforts, ultimately, led to nothing. Sad but true.

“How could he not say anything after hearing everything?” Because if he pretends it didn’t happen, then it didn’t. That simple.

This what I was saying about YoungHee being a good friend. And she’s been so consistent since last ep. I’m almost afraid of writing about it because I think I might jinx it and booom! she will be an annoying person again.

So Wooyeon asked CEO to meet her and he istg dude knows trouble is coming for him, and this is why this whole “date” cracks me up, because he knows Wooyeon knows and instead of trying to tell her the truth and explain, like he did so well many eps ago when he told her about the drunk calls, he just doesn’t say anything even if it’s over the phone, but still does pikachu face when Wooyeon ends things.

And I loved so much their conversation leading up to the phrase that will end it all, so I just have to put it here:

CEO: “Is it that you can’t do it, or that you can’t do it for me? it hurts very much.”

Wooyeon: “I’m sorry. And it doesn’t hurt you if you keep it in? If I called you thinking it was another guy, you should’ve gotten mad. You should’ve resented me. You should’ve scolded me.”

CEO: “How can I say that when I feel like you’ll leave me? I knew you didn’t love me. I knew you weren’t over him, that’s why I tried. I thought if I was patient and kept it in, you’ll love me, so I waited. Couldn’t have you a little considerate of me?”

Ah *deep sigh* but JoonSoo, she was. She was considerate of you. You agreed to be her test man or whatever and you said you could handle your emotions on your own. A test to me sounds like it has a 50/50 chance of succeding at something or not. And this was the outcome. You didn’t pass. But she gave you a chance, and she did try to like you. It’s like Wooyeon’s mom said, some efforts have exceptions.

Ever since that day at the movies, I started to believe that CEO could even excuse a freaking kiss between Lee Soo and Wooyeon, saying “It’s okay, Wooyeon-ssi, I trust you. It wasn’t your fault.” Like ???? Can someone explain that brain of his to me? Damn, Joonsoo, love yourself...

Wooyeon: “Why upset yourself about the inveitable? No matter how hard you try, you’re always nervous. Eventually you lose yourself. That’s a bad relationship.”

Fucking finally. Although, you’re not really one to call out that kind of behavior on someone, just saying.

I freaking love the dialogue in this drama. It’s art. Also, she is so pretty even when she cries hahaha

Honestly, I LOVE THIS DRAMA. I’m obsessed with it. It might be the simplicity of it all, but the way it excels at it. It might be the directing, which takes special care to little details that hit you right in the FEELS. It might be the acting, that’s freaking delicious, especially SeongWu’s or it might be THE CHEMISTRY that has me wishing for a kiss scene SO HARD, because what we got on ep 2 was not enough and at the time I didn’t appreciate it, nor have been all the flirty scenes and the sexy looks. It might be everything I just mentioned, combined. But, had it not been for the fact that Wooyeon broke up with CEO, thus actually advancing the story and giving us some character development, I would've thought this ep was a filler. This is just my opinion, of course.

Also, there was so litte Lee Soo, it was almost criminal.

Toilet-bound Hanako-kun Chapter 21: The Tea Party (Part 1)

Previously: we went on a very stressful and very emotional trip. We finally learned Hanako’s brother’s name: Tsukasa and he continued to unsettled me like he does every single time he appears. Mitsuba actually passed away, this time for good, it seemed and it made me tear up a bit ngl. After that, the chapter decided I hadn’t suffered enough so it punched me while I was down and showed us how Hanako feels about the existence of the dead as ghosts in general and how that reflects in his own sense of self. We also got another glimpse of the mermaid and she said some real ominous shit :)))) if anything happens to Nene istg :)))))) Sigh And last but not least, Natsuhiko went to see Nene at her classroom and I’m,,,,concerned,,,,

Now onto the next chapter!

Personal update for the 50 (holy shit?) of you that still follow this blog: Well…..hi there, it’s been a while ^^;; Looking back on it, quarantine really hit me like a bag of bricks and burned me out. It’s not the first time that has happened, and what it means to me is that I just can’t bring myself to consume new content; I might have loved it so far but my brain is like “nope, we’re not doing that today” and well, this time it happened for almost two months. Also, one of my cats went missing for a little over a week (he’s home now, thankfully) and that just added to the general distress I was feeling. But over the last week I actually wrote small fics for another fandom and it finally pushed me back into a creative state, so I went back to re-read the last couple of recaps I did for JSHK and it made me realise that I miss my babies and I really want to know where the story goes, so here I am c:

Ohhhh that’s right, we’re starting a new volume with this chapter! Our main trio is front and center and judging by the colorful pastries and the tea, it is a reference to the tea party that was alluded to in the preview of the last chapter. Also, I see the ropes are back again, but this time Kou also has some around him! Nene and Hanako seem to be tied together with pink, blue and yellow ropes, Nene and Kou seem to be tied together with an orange rope and both Hanako and Kou seem to have another rope each that it’s not connected to neither Nene nor each other. Hanako’s is red and considering the way in which we’ve seen him tied up before, I would guess this represents his connection to Tsukasa. Kou’s is pink and considering everything that just happened, could his rope represent his connection with Mitsuba? Like, I know he’s dead dead now and their actual friendship was short-lived but I would also like to think that even though he’s gone, his memory will live forever with Kou, hence the rope. But I’m speculating and I already went on a long enough tangent for the cover page so let’s move on.

The next color page has the main trio again as the central focus in what seems to be the inside of a place that has a clockwork-like mechanism. On the corners of the page we have who I assume will be important character during the following arc(s): Aoi, Akane, Yamabuki and Teru (the latter one worries me slightly ngl). 

Ohhhh okay, the content page says that one of the arcs is called “the three clock keepers” so the art on that page now makes more sense.

……….I really don’t trust him hhhhh please be careful, Nene, please don’t let your weakness for pretty boys cloud your judgement.

Ohhh it could be because of Nene’s dress and the bunny ears (and the twins) but the title page gives me strong Alice in Wonderland vibes. It’s a cute picture but Tsukasa is there and Nene is tearing up so I’m,,,concerned

Are you reciting her your dating profile or something? also “call me Natsuhiko-senpai ♡” omfg he’s one of those, huh? Like, it could all be an act but he’s looking less and less threatening by the minute lol

Nene, bless her, has the common sense of asking him why he wanted to talk to her all of the sudden and he says it’s because “someone wants to meet her”. Gee, I wonder who that could be :)))))

…………….oh, oh no. Nene, sweetie, I need you to run and to run fast because this boy is up to no good and you’re not gonna  like what’s gonna happen. (Edit note: also this brings up a question: how did the chaotic trio know that Nene turns into a fish when she touches water? Like, I know they had been keeping tracks on her and Hanako for some time, so maybe they found out that way? Oh, maybe they use the Mokke? Because the Mokke were there in Yako’s boundary when Hanako pushed Nene down the waterfall)

Hhhhhhh and to the surprise of no one, there’s Tsukasa here to make Nene’s day more difficult.

Nene fainted (can’t say I blame her jfc) and now she’s waking up in what seems to be the tea party and the floor is wet! so she thinks she could be on another boundary. Interesting, I wonder which number would this one be? Because the boundaries are assigned to the seven mysteries, right? So one of them should be in control of this place. Could Tsukasa be in control of this one? But that wouldn’t make much sense because he managed to get his “physical” form only recently, right? However, Hanako also spoke of a traitor that was changing rumors and we know that these three are responsible, so if they’re not the owners of the boundary maybe they somehow managed to manipulate the mystery that does control it? Oooor it could also be that there’s another boundary that managed to go under the radar and in turn the other mysteries don’t know about it.

sjdgjjasd she’s so done with them lol I know I call them the chaotic trio but it’s really the chaotic duo + Sakura. I’m so curious about how this whole *gestures wildly towards them* arrangement came to be.

Ohhhh this great! So Sakura got everything under control and from her introduction to Nene we now know that she’s a third year and we have confirmation that she became Tsukasa’s assistant in the same way that Nene did, in exchange for a wish. B U T, again, that brings up even more questions because Tsukasa said that while Amane granted the wishes of the living, he granted the wishes of the dead. So like (⚆.⚆) what’s up with that?? Is she an exception? Is she dead? Another supernatural? Okay but like, I actually really want to know how he fits in all of this because okay, Sakura and Tsukasa are linked together by the wish she made, but why is Natsuhiko here? Who is he? Sakura says that she wanted to meet Nene because they’re in similar positions and she thought they could be good friends. And like, that’s a fair point…...but I don’t trust like that, no sir. Even if she didn’t want the boys to be so rough when they brought Nene here, the fact remains that they still kidnapped her so if this was just a friendly meeting, why would they need to do it in such a convoluted way?

Okay good, Nene is suspicious because of their methods and the amount of knowledge they have about her.

But again, I know he’s technically a kid but I really need him to stop acting so cute because it unsettles me a lot.

Nene snaps out of it and realizes that she let herself be drawn in by girl talk. She thankfully knows it was a stupid thing to do but she was just relieved and happy to have found someone who seems to understand what she’s going through, so I’ll cut her some slack. And she mentions that they don’t look like bad people but like I did, if they had innocent intentions, they wouldn’t have had to bring her by force.

………………...I feel like I’ve mentioned this before but I really hate it when either of them does this fucking face, it’s so creepy >n< also, Nene, sweetie, once again I’m asking you to run, run far and don’t look back because that look doesn’t spell anything good, especially paired with Sakura’s scared/resinged look (which makes me think that maybe her own intentions had been more innocent that I had originally given her credit for)

Hmmm. This is concerning; like, yes, Nene has to help Hanako with whatever he needs as his assistant as part of their deal and he does threaten to turn her into a fish when she pouts but I never got the feeling that it was malicious. On the other hand, Sakura’s wording (especially calling Tsukasa “Master” and saying she “can’t” disobey) and the look Tsukasa gave her make it seem like her punishment for not following his orders would be much more severe. hhhhh I really don’t like where this is going

I appreciate the interest!! Though I honestly doubt I can organize all of my thoughts on this in a comprehensible way, it’s hard to even know where to begin @v@

There’s just... a lot to unpack between those two. They care about each other immensely and they have great chemistry together, I’m honestly not sure there’s anyone in the world who knows Varric better than Bianca does, and vice versa. They were SUPER in love, once. I think it’s hilarious how Varric says he’s bad at writing romance novels when he was literally living the ‘lets run away together and get married in secret' romance trope at some point.

Obviously, things didn’t go as they planned. Bianca’s family found a husband for her that could make the Davri name one of the most powerful in the Guild, and although I do think Bianca was heartbroken she couldn’t be with the man she loved, I’m pretty sure she also couldn’t deny the appeal in becoming the baddest bitch in town. Choosing a man over her career? Unthinkable! She already has to live with the fact that despite being “10 times the smith Branka was” she’ll never get the recognition she deserves just because she’s a surface dwarf. She lives for her work, which she happens to be excellent at, and honestly we stan

And then there’s Varric, the complete opposite of that. He was never big on the whole ~dwarven glory~ thing, so this talk of paragons? Of illustrious family names and titles? Varric grew up with the privilege of not caring. He always got to do Whatever He Wanted while Bartrand fought tooth and nail to keep their family afloat. When Bartrand died, all that responsibility suddenly became his, and we all know how much he complains about that :P I don’t even think he’s be bad at it (POINTS AT HIM BECOMING VISCOUNT) I’m almost certain he’s denial of his own potential, but that’s for a completely different ramble

So, the way I see it, when duty became the obstacle in their relationship, Varric asked “who cares?” to which Bianca answered “uuuuh, me???”. Obviously, he could do nothing but accept her decision.

I think he’s been heartbroken ever since, and the fact that she keeps coming back really doesn’t help. Logically, he knows things are never going to change but, as I’ve mentioned, Varric is an emotional man. Some part of his brain will always believe she'll change her mind, that there’s still some hope for them after all. I can’t blame Bianca for coming back either, despite how unhealthy I think their relationship has become. She obviously still cares about him. It might not be love nowadays, but it’s still something strong, and Varric makes her feel good (Varric is nothing if not a people pleaser) so she can’t go too long without him.
