Ch 10

It was just a recon mission.

It should be easy, those were Bucky’s words. But you hadn’t been out on a mission together since Charlotte was saved. You were dreading leaving her behind although you knew Steve and the others would take amazing care of her. She was your baby, your sweet Angel and you wanted to be the one to keep her safe. But you knew how important this mission was so you settled for watching her sleep for a few minutes before getting ready to go. She looked so peaceful and content in her new toddler bed. You and Bucky had decided to change the crib into the toddler bed version since she figured out how to get out of it. After fixing the blanket covering her, you give Lottie a kiss on the cheek and slowly and quietly start walking out. You jump when you turn and find Bucky leaning against the doorframe.

“How long have you been standing there?” You whisper yell in his direction.

“Just a minute or two. I guess we both had the same idea.” He answers once you’ve walked out of Lottie’s room. The door was left ajar and he looked back to see his baby still sound asleep.

Bucky follows you into the third room in your apartment. You had turned it into a sort of closet. It stored your uniform, weapons and some pre-packed medical gear in case you needed to leave quickly and couldn’t head to the medbay first. The door was kept locked with a code so Lottie couldn’t get in, especially now since Bucky kept his weapons in there too. Both of you quietly go over your bags to make sure you have everything you need. Tony had provided you with a small box of metal discs that you could manipulate and turn into whatever weapon you wanted. Hands find your hips and lips connect with your shoulder.

“Do you have everything you need?” Bucky asks as he peers over your shoulder.

“Almost. Weapons, medical supplies and clothes but Fury said there was a small change in the mission so I have to go get whatever equipment they want to give me. How about you?”

“I’m packed.”

You turn in his arms and close your eyes as Bucky’s lips meet yours. The door to Lottie’s room creaks open and you pull apart. Bucky winks at you and steps outside to meet his daughter while you finish up.

A few minutes later you walk into the kitchen. Music from the 40s filled the room while Bucky moved through the space making breakfast. Lottie sat in her booster chair at the table and bopping along to the music. Her hair was still sticking out in random places.

“Good morning my sweet Angel.” You coo sweetly. She looks up at you and gives you a sleepy smile.

When you smooth out her hair she leans into your touch and then she returns the kiss you place on her cheek. The three of you share breakfast together and before you know it you have to go change to head into the last briefing and then on to the jet.

“Hey guys.” Steve says as he walks in.

“Steeb.” Lottie says happily.

“Good morning sweetheart. I missed you so much.”

Lottie walks to him and lets Steve pick her up. Her head immediately rested on his shoulder. She pats his cheek gently and yawns. It’s a miracle she’s even awake considering it’s so early in the morning. You wouldn’t be surprised if she fell right back asleep, especially while Steve held her.

“We’ll meet you at the hanger.” He says when both you and Bucky head to the door.

“We’ve had a minor change of plans but we think it will be better in the long run.” Fury announced as soon as you walked in. He looked down and back up. “What no more little Barnes to disrupt the meeting?”

“I can go get her if you want Fury. All you had to do was ask to see her.”

“No, no we have very important things to do.”

You bite back a smile as you take a seat.

“We have found and intercepted an invitation to someone from the Romano family.”

“Aren’t they the crime family based out of Jersey?”

“Yes, and it just so happens that you have a very striking resemblance to Grace Romano.” Tony adds as he pulls up a picture of the woman.

“I’m going to have to talk to my dad after this is over.” You joke as you look over the photograph. They were right, the only difference was really the eye color and the height.

Tony places an invitation and a contact lense case on the table.

“We want you to infiltrate the auction as Grace Romano. It will give us a better idea as to who will be there and who will win the bid.”

“Absolutely not. Over my dead body.”

“Why don’t we just make the highest bid?”

Both you and Bucky spoke at the same time. He glared at you and you stared right back.

“Those people are the worst. I can’t let you go in there if I can’t be right by your side.” He argues.

“The contacts are also cameras so you can see what she does. You’ll be set up in a van just outside. It will be placed at the entrance closest to the room the auction will be held at.” Tony says, trying to ease the tension.

You look at Bucky who shakes his head no and you give him an apologetic smile. “I have to. We need to help whoever hydra is using.” You take the invitation and the contacts.

“Good. The auction itself starts at 10:00 pm but it would be good if you were there earlier to mingle with the other guests. We’ve already sent a copy of Romano’s file to your tablet and clothing is already in the jet.” Fury informs you.

“Well I have some studying and you have some flying to do.”

Bucky mutters something under his breath. It had been a long time since he had been grumpy with you but you just smiled and headed toward the jet. He followed behind and complained the whole time. It wasn’t until he saw Lottie that he calmed down a bit.

“Hi, dada.” She said and waved happily. “Hi, mama.”

“Hi my sweet Angel.” You stopped in front of Steve who was holding her. “Can I have kisses?”

Lottie pushes away from Steve and clings to your neck as she gives you quick pecks on your cheek. Bucky is quick to reach out for her and she happily gets passed between her three favorite adults. He starts talking with her and steps away from both you and Steve.

“I heard about the change in the mission.”

“Yeah, he’s pretty pissed. Doesn’t want me to go in there by myself.” You say as you look over your shoulder where Bucky is smiling at Lottie.

“Everything will be fine. Just make sure that if you run into trouble you call him in. Don’t think you can handle everything by yourself.”

“Yes sir.” You salute.

“Be careful you little shit.” He chuckles as he brings you in for a hug.

“Take care of my girl. And if something comes up my dad’s number is on my fridge and he can come up to watch her.”

“You got it.”

You give Lottie one more goodbye hug and kiss and head into the jet. After a few more minutes Bucky walks in. He sits in the pilot’s seat and starts the plane. Once it’s safe to do so Bucky puts the jet in auto pilot and turns his seat around. You had been studying the person you were supposed to imitate.

“Why did you agree to go in there?” He asks, clearly still upset with your decision.

“Because it’s our job, what was I supposed to do, say no?”

“Yes. It’s dangerous, you could get hurt.”

You look up at him and you can see the worry in his eyes. Putting the tablet down you make your way to him and stand between his legs.

“Baby, I know you’re worried I could get hurt but you have to trust that I’ll make the right calls when I’m in there. We have to help this person that hydra is obviously using to replace you. I’m not worried because I know you have my back.” You told him while your arms rested on his shoulders.

“I know. But you can’t blame me for worrying. It is hydra after all. And the thought of anything happening to you.”

“Don’t do that to yourself. Now, do you want to see the dress I was given to wear to this thing?”

You go to the garment bag that was left with the rest of your things. There was a strapless champagne colored dress in the bag. The top looked like a corset and the tulle skirt ended above your ankle.

“How the hell am I supposed to fight in this or carry a gun?”

“I’m not sure but at least you’ll have your bracelets right?”

You smiled as you thought of how you could sneak in as much metal as possible.

“I have a better idea.”

The auction had been changed. Fury, Tony and Steve assured you that it was normal for something like this to happen in order to keep law enforcement agencies off their trail. So instead of having a day to prepare, you had a few hours. It didn’t help that Bucky went back to his grumpy muttering that he didn’t want you in there alone.

You kissed him deeply before saying your goodbye and walking into the suite that had been booked for you. Appearances were important is what Tony said. You shook your head in disbelief at the over the top hotel room. Especially since you wouldn’t get to really use it. There were only two hours left until you had to leave for the auction and you spent that time getting ready.

The hotel lobby was bustling with guests and staff, both from the hotel and the ones running the auction. You rolled your shoulders back and held your head up high, your expression almost bored. Your movement through the room was elegant and eye-catching, just like your dress. It moved with ease even though you had added metal all throughout, making it look like it was sequin. Bucky was in your ear, pointing out who you needed to stay away from and who was hydra.

You move toward a closed off hallway guarded by two burly men in matching black outfits.

“They’re hydra if you see them anywhere other than guarding a door you get out of there.” Bucky’s voice comes through your ear piece.

They both looked down at you and the one on the left stuck his hand out. You pulled the invitation out of the clutch you brought with you and he all but ripped it from your hand. The other waves you in and you take your time looking at the art work that had been hung up throughout the hallway.

“These are all replicas. They let you take a good look at them so you know what you’re bidding on. The real artwork is kept under lock and key.” Bucky informs you.

One item though wasn’t a painting, it was a tv with a video feed. The room it was showing looked empty except for a chain on the floor and for a moment you thought it moved. You risked it and spoke up.

“Are you seeing this?”

“It must be the asset. I doubt hydra has them in the building though.”

“Miss,” a man walked up behind you. “This way please.” He ushers you into a large room set up with a bar and tables as well as a stage toward the back. There was a microphone and a podium.

The room was already full, with people of influence preparing themselves to outbid each other.

“What a lovely surprise to see you here tonight.”

You recognized the accent immediately and turned to look at who had just snuck up on you.

“King T’Challa, I could say I’m the one surprised to see you here.”

“Please, there is no need for you to call me king. How have you been Y-“

“Grace Romano.” You whisper and he nods in understanding.

“Grace, it’s been a while since you visited Wakanda. How is our friend doing?”

“He’s doing well. A bit grumpy but what else can you expect from an old man?” You say as you discreetly signal that you have bucky in your ear.

“You know I can hear you right.”

“Well that is good to hear. Now what are you here for?” T’Challa asks as you both move further into the room with Okoye following you both.

“An asset, hydra is looking to rent them out for missions or jobs. I’m trying to get information on who the biggest bidder is and go from there. You?”

“There are some priceless Wakanda artifacts that were stolen. Made of pure vibranium, I’m here to get them back. But if you need my help, I will gladly assist and Wakanda is always open to help them heal.”

“Thank you.” You smile before you leave his side.

“Well now I feel better knowing T’Challa is there.”

“You and I are going to have a conversation about you doubting my fighting skills. Need I remind you that I’ve been training with you and Nat for the last two years?” Bucky stays silent on the line. “Thought so.”

“If everyone will take their seats the auction is about to start.” A blonde woman announced.

It felt like hundreds of items had been shown and yet the one thing you were here for wasn’t being put on display. There’s a light tap on your shoulder and you turn to see one of the guards from earlier behind you.

“Ms. Romano, the other auction is going to start. Please follow me.” He doesn’t wait for your response, instead he straightens up and starts walking toward a different door then where you came in.

You get up and follow him after looking over at T’Challa and Okoye, both of them had their eyes on you. The former gives you a quick nod in reassurance. The guard leads you to one of the empty banquet halls. Your gut is telling you that something is wrong, your earpiece has been too quiet. Bucky surely would have thrown a fit if he had seen you walking away toward a secluded section of the hotel with a hydra agent.

“Good evening Ms. Romano.” A tall, blond and sickly looking man steps out from within the shadows. “Or should I say agent Y/L/N.”

“Who? I don’t know anyone named Y/L/N. I’d like to go back to the auction .”

You turn to leave but are stopped by the guard that brought you down. He grips your upper arm, fingers digging into your flesh and turning you around.

“We have the item you so desperately want right here.” He says and out from the shadows walks out Bucky, completely restrained and with guns pointed at both him and now you.

You don’t react, instead acting unfazed by the fact that Bucky had been brought out like that. As you try to keep up appearances you look Bucky up and down, you see a few cuts and bruises, before looking at the blond man.

“Who is this supposed to be?”

“Tsk-tsk-tsk. I don’t like being lied to. You know very well who this is.” He pulls out a phone and shows you a picture of you and Bucky running a course on compound grounds. A picture of the date night you had planned, when you were laying in the back of the pick up truck. “How sweet that the winter soldier thought he could have a normal life, with a girlfriend and a daughter.”

Your stomach drops when he shows you multiple pictures of Charlotte running around happily. His smile is vile and what’s worse is that glimmer in his eyes as if he enjoyed it.

“You will do as I say or I will kill her slowly, in front of you.” He spoke in your direction while shaking his phone at you.

He turns back to Bucky and your eyes meet his. He’s livid, you could see it in his eyes. You both freeze when you hear your captor speaking Russian, specifically the words used to trigger and control the Winter Soldier.

“солдат?” (Soldier)

“я готов отвечать.” (Ready to comply) Bucky’s voice was monotone, his face neutral and his eyes looked empty.

“Kill her and then bring me back the child.”

The men that guns pointed at you lowered them and let Bucky go free. That was their third mistake, the first was asking Bucky to bring Charlotte to him and the second was for them to have Bucky kill you.

Bucky’s whole demeanor has changed but you don’t worry, you know those words can’t hurt him anymore. You look up at him once he’s standing in front of you. He brings his hand up around your throat and his thumb finds your pulse. It’s steady and even, you’re calm because you trust him and his eyes soften just a little. Bucky moves his hand from your throat and cups your cheek and all hell breaks loose.

He lunges at the guard behind you while you manipulate the pieces of metal on your dress. In Steve fashion you create a shield and stand in front of Bucky to protect both of you from the rain of bullets. With more of the metal on your dress you create small throwing knives which Bucky grabs and begins to use. You work in sync with Bucky, both of you fueled by anger at the thought of any harm coming to Charlotte. As you work your way through the room the man that had used the words against Bucky ran away but it didn’t stop either of you.

Once you’re done with the hydra agents you run out trying to find where the other man went.

“Are you looking for a sickly looking man?” You turn to see Okoye.

“Yes.”

“T’Challa is already chasing him, here.”

She hands Bucky a bracelet made of beads before she races off. You follow, there’s no way you can let that man live. Bucky grabs your hand and you both run to a motorcycle that’s parked nearby. You don’t have time to worry that you're in your dress, you hop on the back and hold on to Bucky who is using the beads to help him navigate.

Bucky weaves through traffic both to avoid innocent bystanders and the bullets of the hydra agents behind you. You throw spikes back which catch some of their tires, forcing them to drop out of the chase.

“I have eyes on your target Sergeant Barnes.” T’Challa’s voice comes over your now connected comms.

“Stop him, we can’t let him get away.”

“On it.”

When you finally reach T’Challa they already have the man you wanted restrained. The area was away from the busy part of the city which was good. No one needed to see what was about to happen. He sat on the ground with his arms behind his back. A little blood trickled and dried by his brow but otherwise he was uninjured.

“Sergeant, Agent.” T’Challa greeted you once you were close enough. His black panther suit was on except for his mask. “I believe this is who you were looking for.”

“Thank you, T’Challa.” You smiled at him.

“No need to thank me.”

“Where is the asset?” Bucky asked the man as he held a gun to his head.

He chuckles. “You’ve become such a disappointment, soldat.”

“And I’ll sleep just fine knowing I’ve disappointed you. Where is the asset?”

“He’s home of course, the same place you belong.”

Bucky looks over at you instinctively because if he belongs anywhere it’s next to you.

“How sweet, the soldat has a whore.”

“Watch your mouth.” Bucky pulls back and hits him with the butt of the gun.

The man chuckles. “The asset is a chip off the old block. He’d do anything for the people cares for too.”

Your eyes closed and the one thing you feared was true. This asset was Bucky’s child. It would be a race against time to find him and save him before hydra can either move or get rid of him for good. You see Bucky’s hand tremble slightly, he’s conflicted. He wants to pull the trigger but he also doesn’t want T’Challa to think he hasn’t changed. You step up, holding the gun you had strapped in your thigh holster to his head and pull the trigger. His body slumps to the side.

“What have you done? He could have given us more information.” Okoye lashes out at you.

“He threatened my daughter. No one gets to do that and live.”

“We had him, he wouldn’t have been able to follow through with that threat.”

“You don’t know that.” You grit out.

“Okoye, let’s go. We have done our part.” T’Challa says, he nods at Bucky and walks away.

Bucky pulls his phone out and makes a call but you’re not focused on what he’s saying. There’s a few things running through your mind. The first being Charlotte’s safety, the second was the worry for the asset hydra had, another Barnes child. You questioned how old they were and if they were now in danger.

Bucky put his hand on your lower back and guided you toward the motorcycle. Both of you silently got on just as a team of agents showed up to take care of the scene.

“We’ll have to go to a safe house for the night.” Bucky muttered over his shoulder.

“What? No, I want to go home, we have to make sure Lottie is safe.”

“She is sugar, Steve and Nat are with her.”

It wasn’t good enough but you wrapped your arms around him and let him drive you away anyways.

The safe house was a small cabin in the middle of nowhere. It had double protection thanks to Tony adding Stark security. During the drive up, Bucky had stopped to drop off the motorcycle and exchange it for a car that had your overnight bags. Neither of you said much on the ride over but Bucky didn’t let go of your hand until he parked the car.

You walk in first and inspect the cabin. Two bedrooms, one bathroom and a kitchen/living room area. Everything you would need to survive for a few weeks was available. The door closes and the sound of the lock gets your attention. The small cuts and bruises Bucky had sported earlier are already gone.

“Could you unzip me please?” You say as you turn around.

“Sure.”

“Welcome back lovebirds.” Steve says as he gets closer. He hugs you first and places a hand on Buck’s shoulder. “Unfortunately we have to head back out for another mission and it includes everyone. We’ll brief you on the way.”

“What? We just got here, and who’s going to look after Lottie?”

“That would be me.” Your dad walks out from the hallway that connects the hanger to the compound.

The other avengers walk out behind him and head toward the bigger jet. You however meet your dad halfway and accept his hug.

“Steve called me last night. You don’t have to worry about anything, me and my princess are just gonna hang out. We’ll be just fine.”

“Thanks dad.” You smile at him.

“Boom!” Lottie exclaims as Thor walks out.

“Lady Y/N, it’s great to see you again.” He smiles at you as he gets closer.

“Thor, when did you get back?”

Bucky walked closer, a small scowl on his face as he saw you and Thor interacting.

“Thor, this is Bucky-“

“Ah yes, Steve’s oldest friend. We shall forge a great friendship on the battlefield if you are as fierce a warrior as I’ve been told.” He smiles at Bucky and then tickles Lottie. “I’ll see you both on the jet.”

“I don’t like him.”

“Bucky you don’t know him.”

“He was flirting with you, and making Lottie laugh.” He glares in the god’s direction.

Ed chuckles from beside both of you. “I’ll take my granddaughter now if you don’t mind.” Lottie happily goes with Ed and then stiffens.

The color drains from her face and you take her from your dad. You begin to pat her back in hopes of getting her to breathe. A few seconds pass before she sucks in a deep breath and then she starts to cry. Both you and Bucky take a moment to calm her.

“Bubba home.” She points at the jet.

You and Bucky look at each other concerned. Neither of you knew someone named Bubba.

“Hey, we have to go.” Sam calls from the door of the jet.

“We’ll be back as soon as possible. If that happens again-“

“I know, go to the medbay. I’ve raised a gifted child already. I can handle this.”

“Thanks dad.” You kiss his cheek and then Lottie’s.

“Keep her safe.”

“Of course I will.” Bucky nods at Ed once and then heads into the jet.

Once it’s in the air, Steve stands while a projection floats in the middle of the jet. He turns to both you and Bucky.

“We’ve found the location of hydra’s newest asset. They’re keeping him in Siberia.”

Bucky tenses when he hears the location. It’s where he was kept most of the time. Where the worst things happened to him. You intertwine your hand with his.

Bucky can only hope that the asset is hasn’t had to endure as much torture as he had.

Hi Anon! First of all, thank you very much, and you’re welcome! I am very happy to provide Lilidia content and that there are people who are into this ship and send us asks about them. These two are amazing, and I’m glad you’re enjoying them.

Second of all, this is suuuuch a good idea and we’ve actually discussed it quite a bit. It’s fun on so many levels: poor Idia gets isekai’d in the worst way possible, gets to meet young and feral Lilia; all the possibilities for their interactions depending on the status of their relationships in Idia’s original timeline…

Oh, all the thoughts that we have are based on this art that I drew some time ago, so general Vanrouge looks pretty much the same as the Lilia we know and love (we aren’t sure how different he looked when he was younger, so it varies with us lol).

So ahem, I’ll share a few thoughts.

Regardless of how close these two are when Idia gets sent to the past and meets general Vanrouge, Idia is going to feel relief when he sees him. He is probably pretty confused and frankly scared of the whole thing, so a seeing a familiar face feels like a miracle.

The miracle won’t last for long though, because Lilia wouldn’t know who Idia is and wouldn’t be friendly with him at all. Younger Lilia is much more aggressive and brutal, and what he sees is an intruder in a weird armor that Lilia doesn’t recognize.

What Lilia would realise pretty soon though is that Idia is a Shroud, and he’s heard a lot about Shrouds, but hasn’t seen a single one in his life. So, once he realises that Idia is completely harmless and scared shitless, he’ll get quite intrigued and frankly excited by him.

Idia is going to be so shocked watching this version of Lilia. It’s like watching someone who looks like Lilia, but acts like a completely different person: like a brute and a meathead, who could chug a whole bottle (of…is it wine? is it blood?) in seconds. But at the same time, despite not liking meatheads, Idia would kind of feel drawn to him. Maybe it’s because he feels safe now that Lilia is kind of on his side, maybe it’s because despite being strong and aggressively masculine, Lilia is actually quite smart, a great strategist, and a very charismatic person. Sometimes it even feels like Idia is talking to Crimson Muscle…what a weird and completely random thought.

Lilia is definitely going to laugh at Idia’s armor. It looks super heavy, and yet it’s so thin that it’s completely useless. Lilia’s armor, in contrast, is actually quite light, but sturdy. Idia is going to sigh because it’s impossible to explain to general Vanrouge that he is just cosplaying as a character from a movie, and that this is a 3d printed armor for the Halloween party…

Idia is going to feel horribly out of place in general; he is super tech-oriented, and Briar Valley isn’t the best place for that, especially like 400-500 years ago. Lilia is going to find it hilarious and make fun of Idia a lot, maybe even prank him. Idia is going to get a bit surprised but notice that this curious and kind of playful side is very familiar, like he’s seen future Lilia acting that way.

While Lilia recognizes that his priority should probably be getting a young Shroud from the future(???) to the Queen, he enjoys their time together too much and feels kind of possessive over him, like he noticed him first. So they’ll end up spending the night together at some inn… not like that. Well. Yeah, probably like that.

Idia definitely wasn’t planning on sleeping with weird-manly-Lilia-from-the-past, but when Lilia pressed him against the wall and looked him in the eyes and told him that he’d never slept with a Shroud before, for some reason it all became a blur.

If future!Lilia and Idia are together in this universe, Idia will notice how different past!Lilia feels, but at the same time, not at all. Like, he is super different, he is way more aggressive, almost barbaric, very self-indulgent and openly rude; he even sounds differently, his grunts are lower, his laugh isn’t cute and all. He bites even worse, and in general it feels like Idia is a new addition to his huge collection of people he’s fucked. But at the same time, the look Lilia gives him is the same: it’s mischievous, curious and smug.

After Idia is back to NRC, he is going to avoid Lilia for as long as he can. It’s going to be pretty difficult to look him in the eyes after whatever happened back then. Lilia is going to notice and hunt him down though…

Good Omens Season Two Meta

AKA why i don’t like coffee theory

spoilers under the cut, pls enjoy the season at your own pace!

ok before we get into it, i feel the need to clarify that if you believe in coffee theory, i have absolutely no problem with that! part of the beauty of fandom is content is up to interpretation, and i’m fully open to readings and interpretations that aren’t the same as mine /gen.

so, just to give a super quick recap (bc emotions were running HIGH and details are easy to forget), season two ends with Aziraphale being taken aside by the Metatron to discuss him becoming an Archangel to replace Gabriel. At the same time, Crowley is preparing a confession of love to Aziraphale. Aziraphale walks into the bookshop, tells Crowley he’s going back to Heaven and he can reinstate Crowley an as angel and they can be together, they fight and kiss and the season ends. lots of big feelings, i was losing it and sobbing, honestly an amazing way to end the season.

in response to this ending, a lot of people have head cannoned something that’s been dubbed the “coffee theory.” essentially, it boils down to this: when the Metatron takes Aziraphale aside, he gives him a cup of coffee. due to a scene that happened earlier with the Metatron that focused heavily around coffee, and some of the inconsistencies in how he speaks about the coffee (a splash versus a jigger of almond syrup, asking strange questions about coffee and death), people inferred that the Metatron performed some kind of miracle on either Aziraphale or the coffee to mind control/celestially persuade him into going back to Heaven as an Archangel and leaving Crowley.

personally, although the theory is interesting, i disagree with this reading of the scenes involved. the first major issue i have with this reading is that to believe it, you also have to believe that Aziraphale’s actions at the end of the season were out of character, when they are in fact very much in character. from the beginning of the season, we see that, despite his best efforts, Aziraphale’s morality is still deeply tied to Heaven and their ideas of Goodness. in one of the earliest scenes with Aziraphale and Crowley, when they’re meeting in the coffee shop, Crowley talks about how Aziraphale often calls him to tell him about good things that he’s done, and Aziraphale responds with something along the lines of “since I can’t report to heaven anymore, i have to tell it to someone!” this shows that he still feels some level of ties to Heaven. across the minisodes (which deserve their own post and will be getting one), we see Aziraphale struggling with questions of his own morality versus following God’s plan. This was also the major through-line of the entire first season, because Good Omens is, at its heart, a show about morals. he shows tremendous growth in the second season (minisodes especially), as he goes from thinking that he’ll be cast out of Heaven for lying to using a miracle performed in conjunction with a demon to deceive Heaven, he’s still been affected by thousands of years of conditioning from Heaven.

this leads me into the second issue i have with coffee theory, which is that Metatron doesn’t need to use miracles or poison to get Aziraphale to comply. Metatron is incredibly powerful — he’s directly below God in the angel hierarchy, and said in some religious texts to be the “King of the Angels.” Aziraphale, on the other hand, is a principality. he’s very low in the angel hierarchy, which is why he was assigned duties like keeping watch on Earth. even though he has somewhat broken from Heaven, the Metatron still holds a lot of power over him just by the way of his sheer status.

when i was first watching the show, the question that was most evident to me as a viewer was why use the coffee in the first place? why would an incredibly powerful angel need to use material objects to convince a Principality such as Aziraphale? this loops back to Aziraphale’s character growth — even though he’s still a bit stuck in Heaven’s view of morality, the Metatron needs a bit of a foot in the door. the choice of coffee was, in my mind, made for two reasons. the first is that the Metatron knows Aziraphale has an affinity towards human food and drink, especially sweet things. one could also argue that the sweetened coffee is a metaphor for the Metatron’s offer: sweet at first, but bitter at heart. the second reason is that it allows him to show perceived weakness/similarity to Aziraphale, which makes him seem relatable and makes Aziraphale more open to hearing his offer. when he’s handing over the coffee, he tells Aziraphale not to feel bad about drinking it, mentioning that he has, at times, consumed human food and drink as well. i personally think that he’s telling the truth about this, but in all honesty, it doesn’t matter if he’s lying or not. his choice to share this information is a deliberate one, and he’s using it to soften Aziraphale to his idea.

my last and biggest issue with the coffee theory is that it strips Aziraphale of his agency and flattens his morality as a character. as i talked about in the first paragraph, it is not out of character for Aziraphale to side with Heaven, and the offer that Metatron is giving him (an offer that would essentially let him climb to the top of the angelic hierarchy) is one that’s pretty damn hard to refuse. in addition, it is clear that Aziraphale truly believes that he’s doing the right thing by accepting the offer. his body language and mannerisms when he enters the shop to tell Crowley the good news are not those of someone who feels ashamed or upset as his choice, they are those of someone who is indescribably excited to be able to live out his life with the one he loves the most in Heaven. he believes that Crowley will be happier as an angel, that the structured eternity they’ll spend together will be more pleasant then the one they’d spend on Earth hiding from their respective sides, and, crucially, he believes that he will be able to use his power to enact genuine systemic change in Heaven. the Metatron makes it explicitly clear that, as the new Supreme Archangel, Aziraphale will have the power to do things that are entirely unheard of, like making Crowley an angel again. if that’s true (and in all honesty, i don’t know how genuine that part of the offer was), then Aziraphale would be able to genuinely change some of the issues with Heaven from the inside out.

finally, although it is not entirely a part of the coffee theory, i think that the reading of this action as selfish is incorrect. Aziraphale is, in fact, acting selfless to the point of cowardice. he is willing to give up everything that he loves — good meals, the bookshop, being on Earth, and Crowley, his soulmate — in the hopes of being able to be seen as Good and enact Good in the world.

conclusion/tl;dr: the ending of Good Omens Season Two is not out of character for Aziraphale (although I think it’s clear that he was mislead in some way by the Metatron/had Celestial power dynamics used against him), and i don’t think he got poisoned or mind controlled. i loved this season and i hope y’all like this analysis! feel free to dm me if you wanna talk about it further, i had a lot of fun writing this and i’m gonna enjoy analyzing this whole season 🩷

Long post? I've been thinking a lot about Sia's "Music" lately. No, I'm not trying to insult her. I'm talking about the film. Her diagnosis has been all over my timelines, and most people are condemning her for the film's content nonetheless.

I think all the other big Autism accounts have criticized her well enough that I don't need to add on. As they should. They've all said what I wanted to say & I personally won't be forgiving her so easily. But the "Music" fiasco... actually reminds me of how PAPERBOY (my webcomic) was born, in a way?

Matthew & his classmates have lived in my head since 2015. And I remember that when I started PB, I actually didn't know I was Autistic yet, either. At the time, all I knew was that I was a kid in Special Ed, that disability was an unspeakable topic, and that a lot of the people involved in it treated me badly.

Kids' brains are like sponges-- they soak up whatever's around them. And I was raised drowning inside of an awful program. One that didn't show nor teach us respect, acceptance, or anything like that.

I resented, looked down at "certain" kids with the more noticeable disabilities, for "making SPED kids look bad! You're the reason we ALL get seen as less than!" And the thought that I could ever really count as a disabled kid was my worst nightmare. Because in my head, being disabled would mean that all this abuse was justified. And that I was truly & utterly inferior.

And I'd wring out all that nasty thought-process water. It would spill onto the pages of notebooks that became PAPERBOY's first drafts. And oh, believe me, it stained.

But, unlike Sia, I was a kid then. She's grown. She also put that shitty story up for all to see, while mine was restricted to notebooks. And it was only a year or two after I learned about being diagnosed as a baby that the ND movement(s) started blowing up online. So I looked into it, and like... it opened my 14-year-old mind up a lot.

So you know what I started doing? CHANGING THE STORY. Writing a better one. One that was much less hateful. And I changed the core message from "fuck disability, and fuck Special Ed too!" to "being different is not something we should feel punished and pain for. We are a community. And we deserve better."

Autism is neutral & one if the most human things I can think of. It's not to be demonized or glorified. It's not a tragedy, and it's not always some amazing miracle, either. We are people, not props. We deserve to be spoken & storytold about realistically. And we should be embraced at the end of the day. You need to be willing to learn how to listen & respect life's Autistics as they are.

Sia can't undo the real life harm she & her ableism inflicted. I can't, either. But... she CAN choose to change, grow up & out of it, and maybe lead her audience with her. Hopefully, with her new diagnosis, all that time offline, and a crap ton of self-reflection, she can. I mean, I managed, and I'm nowhere near as life-experienced, smart, OR skilled as she is!

Truth be told, I kinda hope she makes another Autism movie? With a big writing team of experienced, Autistic storytellers who know what they're doing. Cast Autistic actors. And instead of writing about somebody that she clearly doesn't see as an equal, she can actually level with them & write them a better story, too. "Music" was dedicated to somebody, right? I think that Somebody deserved a story where they're not just seen, but they're heard. And spotlighted! (Music certainly wasn't.) So... why not try again?

Or hey, maybe not even that, maybe she can try writing from her own experiences as an Autistic woman this time. Growing up undiagnosed, what that was like for her, dealing with a taught self-hatred in a mask that seems to have controlled her life.

I don't know. I like to live my life focusing more on what we CAN do about something instead of doubling down or getting stuck on what we can't. And I think others should, too.

Doubt she's reading this, but like... you've gotta make this right, Sia. Do better. Figure something else out. That's all.

CHAPTER 7 The sun was already rising when they arrived at Marinette's home. There, Alya was waiting for her best friend. She certainly didn’t expect her to come back with company.

"Girl- I know your music is ‘miraculous’ but bringing a ghost back to life? This is another level of a miracle!" She laughed.

The girl couldn’t hold her laugh at her friend’s comment and Luka shrugged, amused, agreeing with Alya about how amazing Marinette is.

"Sooo have you kissed yet?"

"Alya!!"

“Yeah. We have,” Luka answered proudly, to Alya's contentment and Marinette’s embarrassment. “And I hope we do it many more times in the future.”

“Luka!!” Marinette blushed.

“I knew I'd like you!” Alya smacked his back.

“Ouch!” he whined, bending down from Alya’s push.

“Luka! Are you ok!?” Marinette worried.

“Yeah- All good- Still new to this,” he coughed.

“Ok, certainly not a ghost anymore. Weird.” Alya narrowed her eyes as she stared at her hand. “What are you going to do now?”

“It’s been a long day today. We’ll think about it later,” Marinette said. “Now I just want to go back home and get some rest. With Luka.”

“You mean your boyfriend?” Alya smirked and Marinette nodded shyly. “Aww Marinette. I’m happy for you.” The best friends hugged, and finally Alya left back to her house. “See you later, guys!”

“Alya’s so intense.”

“You're telling me!” Marinette groaned and Luka laughed. “You shouldn’t laugh. You should know that you’ll have to endure her more often from now on.”

“Ah- crap.” They laughed again. “So I’m your boyfriend?” He smirked.

“Ah-! Yes.” They hadn’t mentioned or clarified that part yet, mostly because there hadn't been any time to, but she certainly wanted to be his girlfriend. “I mean- if you want to be?”

“Of course I want to be!” He tried lifting her body but failed in the attempt, so he leaned down to kiss her instead. “My girlfriend. I like it.”

“I like it too: my boyfriend.” She grinned and Luka kissed her cheek.

“Let’s go back home. I’m exhausted,” he groaned.

“Yes… me, too.”

Luka blinked when they reached their destination.

“Ok- Why are we here?”

“I thought you lived here?”

“I did. When I was a ghost. I thought-” He scoffed. “Are you leaving me in the garage again, Marinette? Your boyfriend?” he remarked.

“Sorry, Luka! But I have no choice until we figure something out! Imagine what my dad would say if I brought a boy to my room!”

“Oh- that makes sense,” Luka said, resigned. “It was very convenient how I could go to your room anytime as a ghost. I'm going to miss that.”

“Boundaries!!” She pressed the tip of his nose with her index finger.

Luka laughed. "I know, I know."

“But… you know? I'm going to stay with you today. Just to make sure you won't disappear again.” She held him close. “I'm not letting you go even in my sleep.”

He grinned at her and she held him even tighter.

“Sure, but- ouch! Try not to crush me!” he whined. “I could die.”

“Luka!!”

Since there was no bed in the garage, they went to the sofa together, cuddling, and it didn’t take much until they fell asleep out of exhaustion.

When Marinette opened her eyes, she was overjoyed to see Luka beside her, sleeping peacefully and warm to her touch.

He was there. He was real. He wasn’t going to disappear.

“My miracle,” she called him, kissing his cheek.

He woke up with the contact of her lips on his skin, and it made him smile happily.

She thanked Alya for keeping her cover-up for the whole day. She’d apologize and explain to her dad later, but, for the time being, she needed time to process all that had happened the previous night. So she stayed with Luka in the garage, snuggled together, and talked about everything- the past, the previous day, the future… about their bandmates and what to do about the band. They also shared a few more kisses. Ok- A lot of them.

“I’m already missing Ivan and Juleka a lot…”

“Me, too, Marinette, me, too…”

From somewhere in the garage, unseen to the couple, someone was looking over them.

“Hey, Juleka. Don’t you think it’s about time to come out of our hiding spot?”

“Shhh! Shut up, Ivan! I’m looking for the best moment, but they won’t stop smooching! Ew!”

They hadn’t been hiding very well because when they were to smooch again, two pairs of eyes spotted them and…

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!

“Ivan!? Juleka!?” Luka exclaimed. “HOW!? I thought you crossed over!”

Marinette was too astonished to say anything.

“Well… We were about to, but then-” Ivan started, eyeing Juleka.

“-Rose kicked me out,” Juleka shyly admitted. “She said I still had friends and a brother to take care of so that I’d better go back to the lifers world for a longer time or she would literally: ‘get crazy angry’ at me.”

“Wow… She’s so fierce despite being small.” Luka said sheepishly . “What about Ivan, then?”

“Oh- I dragged him with me.” There was a face of disbelief for the two lifers. “What? You wouldn’t expect me to be the only ghost around you two, would you!?”

“Juleka you-” Luka pinched the bridge of his nose.

“Besides-” she interrupted her brother. “Marinette and the Phantoms is only completed with the 4 of us.”

Luka and Marinette shared a look and beamed.

The band was back!

“So… Uhm…” Ivan shrugged. “Power hug?”

Despite knowing they wouldn’t be able to touch them, the lifers crushed them into a hug.

“I love you so much, guys,” Marinette whimpered.

“We love you too, Marinette.”

Were they here because Sabine’s wish actually worked at the end?

She had no way to know, but she- they- believed so.

‘Thank you mom for bringing them back to me,’ Marinette thought, looking up at the ceiling.

“Welcome back, guys.”

As a Colombian woman, it really warms my heart to see how many people are loving Encanto—all the positive reactions and the praise the movie has received not only from the critics but from the audience in general make me happy beyond measure. I, as well as pretty much everyone in this country, have always resented the negative representation we have had in the media.

For instance, "Narcos" is one of the best examples of this hurtful representation that continues to profit from some of the darkest moments of recent history, events that we all would like to bury in the past.

Nonetheless, the discourse I have seen about Encanto, especially on Tumblr, has disappointed me greatly. Most people have focused on coming out with headcanons about the characters' sexuality and gender, or writing Camilo x reader fics (do you realize he’s a teenager? please stop) shifting completely the real focus of the movie. Listen, I am not going to tell anyone what to do or to gatekeep these characters. The fact that you think Isabela is a lesbian doesn't bother me; what I'd really like to remind people of, specially queer white folks, is that this movie isn't for you.

This movie was made first and foremost for Colombians and Latinos. Therefore, when a movie like Encanto, which excels in every aspect and has finally given us the representation that we have been dying for, gets its every valuable aspect outshone by these woke and for the most part ridiculous takes (Bruno is autistic bc the knock on wood thing? Tell me you are white without telling me you are white.) It is expected that people like me won't feel happy.

That being said, in this post I want to tell you about the amazing job Disney made at representing the armed conflict in my country and what this representation and the song "Dos Oruguitas" mean for Colombian people.

As expected, when Disney announced Encanto as its 60th animated movie there were two kinds of people: the ones—including me—who couldn't contain our excitement and decided to trust Disney and cross fingers while saying "please don't mess this up"; and the ones who were convinced this would be a silly and stereotypical movie with zero to none cultural accuracy.

I still remember waking up very early the day the first trailer was set to be released and waiting impatiently the whole morning, until it was finally there after two years of waiting, and I couldn't contain the tears. The trailer broke down Colombian twitter, everyone was posting threads with all the references to our culture, the animals, the plants, the clothing, the food, the real places who inspired the movie. Disney had finally done it right this time.

And yet still, some people weren't content. “This isn't Colombia," they would say. “They aren't showing our long history with war and violence..."

This, of course, pissed me off deeply because for the first time we had something to feel proud of, something to show to the world that allowed us to say "this is who we truly are", they expected a war documentary from a children's movie. It was very clear and widely accepted that this movie wouldn't include any references to our violent past and present and that we all should be fine with it, because there are other types of content in which we can explore that on a deeper level; but to everyone's surprise, we were wrong.

Encanto opens up with Abuela telling Mirabel the story of the family's miracle. I saw the movie the day it premiered in my country, I can't remember seeing the cinema so full of people since Avengers Endgame. When Abuela explains how she and abuelo Pedro were forced to flee their home, everyone stopped talking. I'm sure we were all thinking, "Is this really happening? Did Disney just address one of the most painful events of this country?"

And the answer is yes. For the first time Disney decided to reference real life conflicts and not just any conflict, and I can't think of any different or better approach from the one the Encanto team chose.

The armed conflict in Colombia

I am aware that explaining a 70-year conflict in a Tumblr post is extremely difficult, even more to people who aren't citizens of this country. For this reason, I will try to oversimplify things as much as I can to get to the main point of this post. However, I will link some sources in case you want to do your own research, which I encourage you to do.

Over the last 70 years, Colombia has been devastated by the armed conflict. I am absolutely sure that there's no one in this country whose life hasn't been affected in one way or another by it, me and my family included. The Registro Único de Víctimas (RUV) recognizes 9 million people as victims of the different violent incidents that have taken place during the war. This number includes murders, enforced disappearances, kindappings, sexual assaults, massacres, terrorist attacks, tortures, forced recruitments, among other forms of violence. According to El Centro Nacional de Memoria Histórica, between 1958 and 2018, 261.919 thousand people were murdered in the context of the armed conflict.

This is how it started: Violent times in Colombia go back in time as far as 200 years ago, when members of the liberal and conservative parties began hostilities. Most people think that tracing the conflict to the 19th century is an exaggeration, but the truth is that the bipartisan violence never ended, it only shapeshifted and continues to nourish all the future conflict the country would face.

In 1948, Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, the liberal presidential candidante, and the most popular among the people was murdered in the capital. This was a breaking point in history that was followed by a wave of violence that quickly spread to the whole country and lasted until the end of the 50s. This period is known as "La Violencia''.

During this time, a group of peasants of liberal tendencies who had fought during "La Violencia'' and had been forced to flee their homes, settled in Marquetalia with their families, and founded "a free republic" with no loyalty whatsoever to the current government. By 1964 they had a considerable armed force and political power and already had rejected demobilization. As a consequence, the army attacked their settlements, forcing them to flee once more.

This, of course, had the opposite effect since two years later, the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia) were created; the biggest guerilla in Colombia and the principal assailants of the armed conflict. A product of its time, the FARC - the cold war and revolutionary movements in Latin America - they adopted the communist ideology.

At the same time and inspired the Cuban Revolution, the Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN) is also established, Years later, other guerillas such as The Ejército Popular de Liberación (EPL), the M-19 would also take part in the conflict.

Around the 80s, the FARC had the objective to take over the government. Simultaneously, the ultra right wing, the army, politicians, landowners and even drug traffickers supported the creation of paramilitary units to fight the FARC and other guerrillas. As expected, this only deepened the violence because the paramilitaries fought the guerrillas but along the way they started murdering people in the country side and social leaders. These events coincide with the peak of drug trafficking in Colombia, which brought more harsh attacks against the people of this country but also money that at some point helped finance both groups.

From that moment on, war has worsened. Think of any violation against human rights and for sure it has been registered during these past 70 years . The majority of victims were civilians, men, women, and children of all ages were murdered, kindapped, raped, conscripted.

No one was spared.

Even after a peace treaty was signed between the government and the FARC, violence does not seem to stop. It is a combination of inequality, corruption, government neglect, a bad distribution of wealth, social injustice and drug trafficking, who continues to finance this very profitable business called war.

How is all of this related to Encanto?

One of the most devastating consequences of war is forced displacement. As I mentioned above, the majority of victims were civilians—specifically from the countryside, the zones the government has neglected for decades—who found themselves in the middle of the relentless violence; they had no choice but to flee their homes leaving all their belongings, their lives behind them except for what they could carry in their backs or hands.

They ran away because they were afraid they would be killed if they didn't, they ran away because their home had become a war zone. They ran away because they were afraid the guerrillas would take their children.

Some of them are “lucky” if you can call that luck, and they can leave before war knocked on their door, while some families weren’t. They didn’t always have a chance to escape. Most of them had seen their husbands, fathers, brothers and sons being killed or tortured in front of their eyes; their wives, daughters, and sisters sexually assaulted. Sometimes they even took one of their relatives and then it was certain they will never know what has become of them.

This is the wounding reality of this country. The more I think about it, the more I realize that it would have been impossible—even ridiculous—if Encanto prided itself on being true to Colombian culture if it hadn't included any reference to the armed conflict. No matter how traumatic and shattering this part of our reality is, it is still ours.

The story of Abuela Alma, a woman who had to flee her home in the middle of the night, with her children in her arms, a wife who saw her husband murdered in front of her eyes. She had to hold on to whatever strength was left inside of her to wake up day after day to raise three children and somehow try to come to terms to the traumatic events that forever changed her is not something that belongs in fiction. The scene when Alma falls down, powerless and helpless as her husband's life is brutally ended in front of her and their children, isn’t there because its purpose is to generate an emotional response in the audience. It is there because it has to be, because it is time the world knows what this country has endured.

This is the story of thousands of mothers, wives, sisters, daughters and all the strong women who somehow have been resilient enough to keep living after having suffered the unspeakable. The generational trauma in the family Madrigal is the heart of this film as much as it is their unconditional and enduring love for each other, as much as it is our music and our vibrant colors, as much as it is our grief but also our resilience.

Disney understood why it was vital to represent all of this in Encanto, and that’s why I cannot just sit here and watch how most people erase the heart of this film, you do not get the right to do it.

Dos Oruguitas

I love my country.

I love my country and I am proud of this blessed land, the second most biodiverse country on earth.

I am proud of our culture, our music, our food, our diversity and all the beautiful details that make us who we are.

I am proud of all the things you got to see and love in Encanto but I won’t lie and say living in the country is the most mesmerizing experience.

Colombia is the second most unequal country in Latin America, the health care system is a disaster, corruption reaches ridiculous standards, people get killed for defending their rights, there are no jobs, not enough opportunities for real progress, and we have one of the most devalued currencies in the region—all of that in the eyes of a government who couldn’t care less about the citizens of this country.

In addition to that and as I mentioned in the first lines of this post, there is no one whose life hasn’t been affected by war and violence. I can count myself lucky, my whole life I have lived in the city, and never got to endure what people in the countryside have gone through. But during the peak of drug trafficking war, when Pablx Escxbar would set car bombs in the cities every now and then, when people were too afraid to set a foot out of their houses, I almost lost my aunt and my dad—he almost died from being crushed by a wall when a car bomb exploded in front of his workplace, and then I wouldn’t be here, writing this post.

We constantly wake up with news of a new massacre somewhere in the countryside and some days it is really hard to find a reason to smile. I won’t pretend a Disney movie can solve all these problems because it really doesn’t. But in the middle of all these tragic events, it gives us—me—a reason to smile.

The Encanto soundtrack was released before the movie, I had heard they were pushing Dos Oruguitas for the academy award for best original song so that was the first song I listened to. I couldn’t stop crying. And even before knowing what scene it would accompany, this song felt like a gift, like a warm embrace that brings hope for a country that needs it desperately and for my people who remain strong and resilient in spite of it all, a country who dares to dream of a better tomorrow.
