itty bitty comic that took me WAYYY longer than i expected :'] i was trying to test the viability of this medium for sequential art and the answer is Yes it kind of works but Only if you have both a ton of patience and time on your hands. i think this turned out kinda swag for a first attempt!
anyways this was going to be the beginning of a short story but now i've moved and. no longer live in the forest anymore kjfdksj so might have to rethink it slightly
Am I the only one who feels spoiled by reading Tamora Pierce as a child and then never finding something that hit quite the same? She really had it all. One of the only authors I’ve seen do multiple generations well (because the previous generations aren’t just offed or all of their progress backtracked). Ambient vs scholarly magic systems is still one of the coolest magic systems to this day. The friendships are perfect and just the right amount of romance to make it fun. Redemption stories that fit the characters and don’t make them perfect angels even as they grow for the better. Tragic regression stories that haunt the characters (and me).
Obsessed with this diva. What a superstar. I also love Moo Deng because if I were to describe my dog Barley as anything it would be a baby pygmy hippo. The tantrums, the sass, the girth, the drama of it all, always slightly moist. Moo Deng and Barley are very much kindred spirits.
I am so obsessed I made myself a Moo Deng embroidered sweater, and I thought I would add the design to my website so that all her fan club member's can show her off.
I made my first stuffed animal today. Admittedly it doesn’t really look like I wanted and it took a lot to fight the perfectionism and just go with it. I keep reminding myself that I hate it but my four year old sister is most likely going to love it. Because it’s an animal and it’s a toy and it’s for her and honestly at that age, that more or less what it takes to be a great thing.
It’s supposed to be a narwhal, though it came out more whale-ish.
I was rewatching c3e50 empire sibs appearance for knowledge reasons, and I noticed this exchange 👀
[video description: Matt narrates Caleb as wearing a deep purple scarf. At this, Ashley perks up and looks around. Text near her says, “purple? that’s not in his color scheme”. Travis seems to notice this, too. He makes eye contact with Ashley and whispers something that looks like “is that Essek’s?” Ashley replies, “I bet, I bet.”]
i hc that baby siffrin had their gender on LOCK, figured the fuck out, extremely happy with their presentation and sense of self and any physical transition plans! and then when he forgot the island he forgot his gender too and it's been a much longer and shakier path figuring it out again </3
every time i interact with the silmarillion i get weirdly excited about the fact that the authorial intent is that it's a translation of historical accounts. it's a tertiary source! none of it is first hand. it makes it so much more interesting. was the legendarium a mannish tradition? what parts of these were written by pengolodh? by rumil? what loremaster has recorded this? would there be bias in the accounting? can i trust what i'm reading, from this viewpoint, this many years after it would have been written?
what has been mythologised, what has been sanitised, what is third-hand written on rumour? it's such an interesting thing to consider.
This morning sucked. Woke up at 7 on less than 5 hours of sleep to bake over 50 Eccles cakes. Didn’t have like half my ingredients. Bought more only to realise I still didn’t have them all. Burnt myself on the syrupy filling. Printer died on me as I was trying to get a printing job done. Forgot to have lunch I was so excited. Locked my car key in the boot. Waited an hour in the sun in all black to make sure I didn’t get a parking ticket whilst trying to get said key out. Got stuck in traffic for half an hour only to find I’d just moved under 100 metres. Accidentally had the thermostat cranked up to 40C the whole journey. All of this, just to get to a screening.
Then when I got there….
Shrimp emotions. The atmosphere was incredible. Got there 3 hours early. Immediately bonded with people, and it just felt so warm and exciting. I passed round the Eccles cakes in its little (very large) Antichrist basket. We all counted down with the timer waiting for the episodes to start. The episodes were amazing, and I have to thank @neil-gaiman for making this season come true - it was everything I hoped for and more, and I think that’ll be the case for pretty much everyone. I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world, even if I had to live through this morning 20x over.
Trust me when I say you’re not prepared for season 2. No one is.
Anyways here’s a picture of the cakes in their basket:
