It’s mainly James and Sirius that are the problem. Remus has learned to hold your hand to temper his own long-legged pace, but much like with talking, when James and Sirius get together they start moving at double the speed. 

“Should we call them?” he asks. 

You consider it. “Let’s see how far they get before they notice.” 

A couple more minutes go by, and Remus can barely see the tops of their heads through the crowded sidewalk. 

“Still no idea?” He searches for notes of dejection in your tone, but finds only amusement. 

“None.” 

“Let’s hide.”

He blinks. “What? No, love…” He sighs reluctantly, but lets you tug him into a nearby coffee shop. 

You buy them each a hot chocolate, and it’s five more minutes before Sirius and James go by in the shop’s window, appearing slightly bemused but otherwise unconcerned. You make to go outside, but this time it’s Remus who holds you back. 

“No, let them stew a minute.” 

The next time they come by, the pair looks noticeably more troubled. Remus knocks on the window, and you both wave when they turn to you, gawping. 

The bell jingles as they come inside. 

“Hey, we’ve been looking for you.” James rubs his hands together, blowing warmth into them. Remus feels a tiny bit guilty and takes them between his. He pretends not to see the toothy grin James shoots him. 

“Oh?” Remus makes his tone casual, and you sip at your hot chocolate to hide your smile. “For how long?” 

“Like, five minutes. You just disappeared,” Sirius complains, scooching into your chair so that you have to share it with him. He peers at your hot chocolate, then Remus’. “Oi, you didn’t get any for us?” 

“Interesting,” Remus goes on, ignoring the question, “because we’ve been in here for nearly fifteen.” 

Sirius blinks, and James cocks his head. “Really?” James asks. 

You nudge Remus’ leg playfully under the table. “No,” you tell them, rolling your eyes. “We just wanted to see how long it would take you guys to notice we weren’t behind you.” 

“You could stand to be a little more considerate,” Remus says primly, sipping his hot chocolate. 

“Aw, baby.” Sirius nestles his freezing nose into your cheek, grinning when you squirm away. “Did those little legs of yours separate us?” 

You roll your eyes, but once again Remus comes to your defense. “Their legs aren’t the problem, yours are. Until you two can learn to be considerate of the less…height privileged” —he pretends not to see the aghast look you send him, and goes on with faux dispassion— “there will be no hot chocolate for either of you.” 

Sirius scoffs, but James is nodding slowly, seeming to mull things over. “Sounds fair,” he says. “However, have you considered that we could simply purchase our own hot chocolate?” 

“Not,” says Remus, “on ethical grounds.” 

James pulls his hands kindly from Remus’ grasp, giving him an almost consoling pat on the shoulder. “C’mon, Pads, let’s go order.” Sirius hops up, and James stops by your chair on his way past to drop a kiss on your head. “We’ll try to keep to your speed from now on, lovie. Sorry.” 

“It’s okay,” you say, having forgiven them long before they even knew they wanted to be forgiven. 

“Honestly, who should you really be mad at?” Sirius gives you a conspiratorial look. “Your knight in shining armor over there just called you ‘the less height privileged.’” 

“Don’t let him turn us against each other,” Remus says, reaching across the table to clasp your hand firmly. “It’s how he gets his way.” 

“I know,” you stage-whisper back. Then to Sirius, “Go get your hot chocolate, and I’ll decide who I’m mad at depending on whether there’s a slice of pumpkin bread with you when you come back.” 

He scurries towards the counter.

I'm beginning to suspect that he heavily values freedom and being able to go where he wants and do what he wants. That includes taking you wherever you wanna go. Even at max affinity he has the same response--'we're going somewhere, anywhere you want.' At max affinity he doesn't mention an R&R permit--which suggests he doesn't care if you get in trouble going out, as long as you actually get to go out. One of the first things we see him talking about relating to Darkwick is asking Leo if he regrets going--I think Sho regrets it. He can't leave whenever he wants, even though he's one of the top students as far as grades, he's more restricted in what he's allowed to do and when. . .so I think these offers to drive you anywhere in total freedom are his ways of showing you what means the most to him. Just. . .being able to do whatever, whenever. I think that's also part of why he likes Leo so much. Leo doesn't let himself be restricted either. Leo gets into fights and into trouble and Sho complains about it but he understands the liberation. Sho wants to see that unrestricted you, I think. Even if it isn't anything extreme, even if it isn't anything exciting. He wants to see what you're like out of Darkwick's cage. So he'll take you on little joyrides into freedom. Show him where you go and what you do when no one's there to stop you.

okay so if summonday is the 8th day of the week, and the countdown began on release day july 23rd, and then 7 days later on july 30th the countdown ended and another countdown in negative time began. if “time is dead and meaning has no meaning” then everything could be malarkey and there’s not gonna be any way to predict what’s gonna happen. but also, maybe time got reset when it “died” and july 30th became day 1/ the first day of the week. we’re currently at day -5 and 19 hrs.

perhaps (based on nothing but the number 8 maybe-clue) on the -8th day of the countdown which falls on august 7th, they’re will be some form of a release/ another clue that hints closer to the answer.

that would make the time from release day to lost files release day 16 days (two weeks if we are counting summonday as the 8th day of the week)

all i’m saying is this feels very much like the brewings of a modern day cipher hunt like maybe it’ll be less about traveling to physical places like the original but instead some sort of wild goose chase treasure hunt online through hopping websites and soundtracks and books from 1925 and just like mixing the media formats. i think the mixed medias in tbob are so incredible and are really what set this book apart as its completely original entity and not just a sequel to journal 3. and with that shift feels very reflective of the era of time we live in now and in no way tries to recreate any previous era. ALSO all the metaphorical foils and parallels that alex hirsch has been begging us to see through the great gatsby are important. the literary connections between bill and gatsby’s characters AND the real life lesson of: we can’t repeat the past, we can’t get back things we lost, if we choose to live in the past it will lead to our demise but if we look to the future and accept what’s happened, we have a chance of building something amazing. (sooo no season 3 ppl like that’s not what any of this is about)

and and side note if the majority of the public believed the government release of the truth about “summonday” to be hyperbole, what about the minority that took it seriously? who are they? did they decide it together? are they in some sort of group/cult together?

the themes of cults, cult leaders, sociopaths, narcissists, and control come to my mind immediately regarding tbob, great gatsby, and now these weird cryptic messages from jason ritter…

sooooo long winded answer later,

i would love it if the countdown would end in 3 days @ -8 days and for it to lead to another link or to a code or to some sort of next step for us all to work together on tumblr and twitter and reddit and discord and all the platforms. thus ushering in the beginning of a new cipher hunt— but not like a cipher hunt 2. this is alex hirsch we’re talking about. i think the stakes will be different and i think it will be much less about physically finding things in the real world and more focused to online clues. and if it does end up being some sort of wild goose chase treasure hunt online i will be sooooo overjoyed.

cause i think that working together to solve mysteries as a collective is where this fandom shines. we make allies, we learn from each other, y’all are all so fucking funny and smart and passionate and genuine and i love hanging out in this community in the space between space and time.

Following close behind were a small handful of trainers, Joy assumed, and another instantly recognizable face, Aran Ryan. The young man was shouting back, but Joy couldn’t make it out over all the shouting and scuffling. Melodie, on the other hand, was completely unbothered, “Come on, Joy. We don’t want to keep HR waiting.”

Joy watched the slowly stabilizing situation, “Is… this normal?”

Zürich, Switzerland

Greetings All.  We are in Zurich trying to change our body clocks by 6 hours.  Easier said than done.  We flew yesterday from Detroit to Amsterdam and the idea is to sleep the night away as we transverse the Atlantic - but both Mark and I got maybe 2 - 2.5 hours of sleep during our 7 hour flight.  We left Detroit at 6:30 PM and arrived 7 hours later in Amsterdam at 8:30 AM their time. - but at 1:30 AM our time.  We had a short layover (1 hr and 25 minutes) but in Amsterdam this is JUST enough time to get to your next flight - so we got to the gate and boarded.  The flight from Amsterdam to Zürich is only an hour and while I may have slept on that flight it was not more than 20 minutes.

We got a pretty pricey cab from the airport to our hotel - but we could not face figuring out public transportation as tired as we were.  Sadly - our hotel room was not ready.  We opted for a leisurely lunch in which Mark had cold spicy melon soup and I have garam marsala butter chicken - both delicious - but really all we wanted was a bed to stretch out on.  (Don’t worry I will not tell you everything we eat!!) After lunch we got the news that our room still wasn’t ready and I did something I have NEVER done - feel asleep in a chair in the lobby of the hotel.  But by 3:30 we were in our hotel and we opted for naps - until 5:00.  Hopefully bedtime will come easily...

Enough about us…. Let’s get to our adventure...

The theme for this trip is “OLD STUFF.”  We will start with "real old" and work our way to "OMG WAY WAY OLD."  We, in the US, get so excited when we see a structure from the late 1600s  or early 1700s - but that is a joke in this part of the world - kinda a “baby building.”  

So let’s start with Zürich Switzerland - our current “home."

From what we have seen, Zürich is a beautiful city surrounded by the foothills of the Alps mountains located at the northern end of Lake Zürich and built on Limmat River (pronounced “Limit” that flows from Lake Zürich.  This city has a history going back centuries. 

The town was founded by the Romans a bit over 2,000 years ago. Recent excavations show evidence of settlement even before that -  over 6,400 years ago. 

We explored the old city from about 5:30 to 9:00 - or 17:30 to 21:00 - as any citizen of the world would say - with a a few exceptions - like us.

Surprises:  There are no “walk/don’t walk” signs - pedestrians just have the right of way - PERIOD!

There is graffiti everywhere - I was shocked!

EVERYONE smokes!  Or it seems that way.  DISGUSTING!

I went to buy our 24 hour pass for public transportation and was told to just keep in with us.  If asked we would have to show it - but there is no check in - check out system.  Trust, my friends.

Things we expected:  Public transportation options would be numerous and easy to use and very clean.

People would be helpful and kind

Things would be EXPENSIVE.

We ate dinner at an outdoor cafe - late - (when in Rome, so they say) and it was outstanding.  Mark had cold roast beef with horseradish sauce and I had “Rösti” with smoked salmon, onions, capers and a dill sauce.  OMG!!!

Rösti is shredded potatoes fried in butter and made into a mound.  You can get lots of different kinds of “Rösti’ and I highly recommend it.  Split with someone  - it is huge.  (It will be breakfast for us tomorrow.)

Tomorrow - we will explore more than the transportation system.  I’m going to bed. It is 22:00 here and I'm hoping to wake up for the first - and maybe only - presidential debate - which would be 3:00 AM here. If I do - I'll watch it live. If I don't - I will be more rested when I watch it later Either way - we are in Zürich rooting for Kamala!!

Where do I begin....

I have a lot on my mind and little of it is good

I don't like dentists.

And let me tell you why....

When I was young... maybe 6 or 7, my father punched me hard in the mouth. Hard enough that my lower jaw moved in a way the upper jaw didn't. Hard enough that an abscess formed over an upper tooth. Hard enough that my lower teeth deformed pushing one front tooth behind the other at an angle.

My father was a big man who did construction his whole life, and was a raging alcoholic. I was a very frail, sickly little kid... his fist was about the size of my entire head.

Days later when I went to visit my mother, she saw that I couldn't speak, eat, and barely drink.

I don't think she called the police this time, other times she and teachers did... but this was the early 80s and well... even when I had bruises up and down my body, they wouldn't do anything about it.

So mom took me to a dentist.... not my usual one but one that could see me right now.

I sat in the chair... he grabbed my jaw and wiggled it and kept yelling at me to open my mouth more. I tried to explain that I couldn't, that it was locked, that the tendons and muscles were so swollen I couldn't move it....

He just berated me some more and then roughly grabbed my lower jaw and forced it open and to the left with a sickening POP!

I woke up minutes later.

I just remember the sound and then bright lights as he yelled at me more to wake up.

The pain was insane... to this day i'm not sure i've felt anything that hurt that bad. Not when I got run over by the truck, not when I fell into a burning building, not when I first got hit in the jaw.

He then shoved some stuff for xrays into my mouth that were sharp as hell... so sharp that the next round of yelling began because I started gushing blood from where they cut deep into my upper lip and the roof of my mouth.

It was pouring out so bad and I was crying, and they had to use the suction hose to stop me from choking on it.

Eventually mom came back to find out what the noise was, saw me covered in blood and took me home.

The next day I was still spitting up blood and couldn't even drink so my regular dentist saw me who ushered me into the next room where his partner the oral surgeon was.

I ended up getting a root canal, the abscess drained, and a ton of shots in my jaw. I was on pain pills and muscle relaxers and so much more for weeks after.

I never saw the dentist again.

Until now.

That tooth with the root canal cracked in half ... the front is just gone... the back is fine... but the front is gone.

I can't leave it like that so I'm going to see a dentist.

Not only do I have to deal with the overwhelming prior trauma... but you know... covid is still a thing.

Most of the dentists I called who accept my insurance all have open seating ... it's like going to a barber shop. Everyone's in the same room with just small partitions between you.

That's about as COVID safe as kissing everyone on a cruise ship after they dock.

So that's a no.

I did find one small place with good ratings who is nearby.... so ... wed I go in and will pay full price.

It'll be awful, it'll be expensive... and then I will come home and isolate from W. She'll take the front room, I'll take the back... no shared spaces or air. No shared bathrooms, or kitchens, or hallways... all self contained, with open windows and fans blowing and everything so we're not breathing the same air at all.

After 48-72hrs if no symptoms, I'll take a covid test and then 12 hrs later a 2nd one to see if anything pops. I don't want to do this... I don't want to risk this... I don't want to pay this.... I don't want ANY OF THIS.... We've gone this long without getting COVID... of taking almost no risks at all... now this! Sometimes you get over trauma... sometimes trauma follows you your entire life.

Because I Love A Good Overshare

Which given the amount of Capricorn & Scorpio in my chart is a bit of an oddity 😝

I know I’ve shared before that weekends are when I have the least time to write which is why those JFW entries tend to be the shortest. I have epilepsy (not the kind where I flop around on the floor like a dying fish but I zone out for up to a minute) & I was seizure free until I got pregnant 4 yrs ago. I adore my son & wouldn’t trade him for anything, but the changes that happened to my body as a result are not my favorite. The results of my hospital stay in December were also not as fruitful as I’d hoped. The medication they put me on made me so dizzy I couldn’t stand for several hours whenever they increased the dose. It took about 10 days to go away. It significantly cut down on my seizures, but hasn’t stopped them completely (what I was hoping for).

My husband took a pay cut & I’ve been trying to find a second job, but WFH is already hard to come by, much less one that doesn’t involve some kind of customer service phone gig. No one wants to hire a disabled person with limited availability. If my current job paid me about $3-4/hr more that would be amazing however it won’t in spite of my boss’s request for us to get raises every year. It took me 7 yrs to get my first raise. If you can afford it, dropping something in the tip jar would be appreciated. I don’t need to tell y’all how stressful a loss of income can be & stress only increases my odds of having a seizure.

MC took the bear and card and shoved them both back in the box throwing it across the kitchen floor. She grabbed her cup of coffee and went too see what Jake had found.

Jake: what's up?

MC: I got another box from Alan

Jake: what did he send this time

MC: an ugly bear and another sick love poem

Jake: I have some good news I've called in another favour owing too me and they are going too create some fake news and get Alan too come out

MC: is that even going too work? He's not going too fall for that

Jake: he will if it's you that's at the center of it

MC: what do you mean?

Jake: my friends are going too create a fake news story and post it on the internet. everyone will be able too see it Once Alan gets the bait he will leave his house too go investigate.

MC: so once he leaves his house we can sneak in look round and plant a few bugs

Jake: yes, but I'm not having you go in there it's too dangerous

MC: no way! I am not standing back on this one in coming with you

Jake: MC I'm supposed too be protecting you not putting you in danger

MC: your not putting me in danger I am the one who is choosing too do this, your not going too be able too stop me Jake I mean it

Jake: fine but you listen too my instructions and do as I say

MC: that's fine I can do that

happy wednesday outsidersblr! how are we doing after the Angst Hell that was the Finale Part 2? i haven’t coped from that! but whatever! im making a fic of post-finale shit!

i made this hell of a group art piece and posted it on monday but i was too lazy to post it on my other socials so im doin it now. also my friends and i are still wondering why a) they are inspirations to the outsiders and b) how im not included in the artist section despite doing art for like 4 lore streams and an animatic when we all saw the end credits

the world may never know.

Recap (day 7-day 10)

Saturday (day 7)

After the drone show was a mess. I could not find a taxi and then had to walk home for 1.5 hrs 💀. I was stressed but at least I made it home. Getting lost/walking around is the best way to getting to know the area though. You couldn’t tell me that at the time though, I was convinced I’d be sleeping in the streets or paying for a hotel lool I was stressed. All that fir a 10 minute show too, I was so annoyed with myself.

Sunday (day 8)

I ordered food! And it came to the right address! It took me like 3 hours because I wanted to be sure I was doing it right because it would suck for the delivery driver to call me and be on the phone with someone who cannot communicate well . There’s a local service (i think it’s literally 1 girl tbh she’s the best ) that orders food for foreigners with a $3 fee but they were offline so I had to struggle lool. I started watching friends on Netflix, im not a tv show person but I think being alone forces me to watch them so I feel less alone. I get easily scared now too so I can’t watch any thriller, suspense, horror stuff like I used to.

Monday (day 9)

I went to the bank Monday, it was a thirty minute walk (idk whats with the local apps but they lieeeee it was supposed to be a 15 minute walk). The banks are open from 10-4 on weekdays so I can only head over on Monday because I have less classes. they told me to come back though so that’s for next Monday again. I walked 30 minutes there then 30 minutes back to work. It was lightly drizzling on the walk back and a store was playing sad music on their outdoor speakers. It made me laugh a lot, it felt fitting lmaooo. Then after work I went to a recommended electronics store to get a router for internet. When I finally got there they told me they didn’t sell any 💀..again the place was walking distance 😭 but I got lost and the apps lieee (this is the exact point where I was certain the local map app wanted me to be usain bolt or something) so I was wandering for 1.5 hrs (2.5 hrs were spent walking yesterday)

Tuesday (day 10)

I cried this morning, and could only do it for like 10 mins before work, my mom said I sounded sick and that made me sad because I don’t want her worrying about me . I told myself I could cry more when I got home but like what happened last week I didn’t need to cry when I got home. I felt better. Sometimes this makes me feel like a child crying because they don’t want to go to school. But it also makes me think I overthink my days way too much, it’s all okay. I’ve done this before and have experience. I don’t suck and I’ve only completed my first full week today. I need the confidence and ego of a white man in times like these. I would wake up at 3am to prepare for my lessons for 9am last week. And I still felt like I wasnt doing enough, that’s not healthy or okay. I’m fine , I’m more than fine. I’m good enough and I can definitely do this :).
