What the Future Holds: A Wadlow Sibling Fic
it's senpai's b-day, which calls for a special fic! this took 3 days to write (february 19th to today, the 22nd) and was a lot of fun since it's something a little different! enjoy! ;D (shoutout to @robert-273-fan, who came up with betty and harold jr's stories!)
Tumblr media
what will senpai be doing 5 years in the future? the sibs might have an idea...
“Happy birthday to you!” a chorus of voices sang.
The Wadlow family clapped as Robert blew out his candles.
“Congrats!” Betty said. “You’re officially eighteen now!”
“He’s been eighteen for hours.” Eugene reminded her.
“Since six-thirty in the morning.” Addie added.
Robert smiled. “I didn’t quite feel eighteen earlier, but I sure do now! The cake looks delicious.”
“I heard it’s your favorite- strawberry shortcake,” Harold said. “But we won’t know for sure until we have a piece!” he added with a wink.
Harold Jr. grinned. “Yay, cake!”
Before long, the cake was distributed. The siblings relaxed in the living room afterwards.
“This has been a great birthday,” Robert said with a smile. “I hope there will be more like it for years to come!”
Betty smiled as she said, “Look at this!”
She held up Thursday’s issue of the Alton Evening Telegraph. On the first page was a photo of Robert standing next to a tree. The siblings were on his other side.
“Hey, there’s me!” Harold Jr. exclaimed, pointing to his pouty little self.
Betty ran a hand through her bangs. “Still a good decision! Although I sort of miss being bangless.”
Helen frowned. “Even all these years later, it’s still so weird to see us in the paper.”
“It’s neat being famous,” Eugene said. “...Or, partially famous. We still have Robbie to deal with.”
“I’d rather you be famous than me,” Robert smiled. “I’m not one for the spotlight. Although I’ve gotten used to it.”
Betty noticed something else in the newspaper. “This says, ‘Five years ago today, Mr. John Wood and Miss Carol James wed. They were high school sweethearts before their marriage.’ Aww, how sweet! I can see that happening to someone…”
Robert tried not to feel her arm nudge or notice the cheeky look she was giving him. He knew exactly what she was hinting at!
Harold Jr. had to get ready for bed, leaving the other siblings to read the paper.
“I can’t imagine what I’ll be doing in five years,” Helen remarked. “What do you think you’ll be doing in that time, Robert?”
“Who knows?” Robert asked. “It’s best to take things one day at a time.”
“I know what he’ll be doing!” Betty exclaimed.
...
It was a bright summer day in 1941. Robert was at his high school reunion.
...
“Reunions start at ten years, not five.” Eugene pointed out.
“Well, in the future, they thought otherwise,” Betty said. “As I was saying…”
...
It was a bright summer day in 1941. Robert was at his high school reunion, which was the very first fifth reunion ever. It was a huge success! Everyone was dancing to the latest song, Love Is In The Air. Robert certainly thought this was true. He went up to Marilyn Stanton, who was chatting with some friends.
“Ahem.” he said with a clearing of his throat.
Marilyn turned around. “Oh! Hello, Robert, my love.”
“Hello, Marilyn, the loveliest of all my loves.”
“Get a room!” an aggravated Eugene called (from in the story or real life, no one knew!).
Robert smiled. “I know of something better than a room,” He got on one knee. “Marilyn Stanton, will you do me the honor of becoming Marilyn Wadlow and becoming my wife?”
Marilyn gasped. Tears came to her eyes as she exclaimed-
...
“No way,” Robert cut into Betty’s story. “She’s just a friend.”
“Sure, tell that to your yearbook!” Betty said with a smile. “I caught a peek at the Camera Club page. You’re standing right next to her!”
“That was just a picture.”
“I remember walking down the hall before the Yearbook Club’s last meeting before winter break. Marilyn said hello and you sounded awfully shy,” Helen told Robert, her eyes coy. “Not insinuating anything, though! Just reminiscing…”
Robert rolled his eyes. “Marilyn and I are friends and club members. That’s all there is to it.”
“Sure, you say that now, but what about in five years?” Betty asked. “Anything could happen! And that anything is…”
...
“Yes!” Marilyn exclaimed with a smile. “Yes, I will marry you, Robert!”
The crowd cheered!
Robert and Marilyn kissed, which they’d do again at their wedding a few months later. Eugene was a groomsman, Helen was a bridesmaid, Betty was a flower girl (or flower woman since she was the very mature age of seventeen) and Harold Jr. was the ringbearer.
Robert stood at the front of the aisle with the priest. When the music started, he nervously adjusted his bow tie. Then Marilyn walked into the church with her father. She wore a pretty silk dress that flowed out a little at the bottom and the longest veil! It was hard to see past the tulle fabric, but her smile was clear as day. It took forever for her to get to the front of the aisle, though. And when she did, Helen whipped out her viola and played a solo!
“Do you, Robert, take Marilyn to be your lawfully wedded wife?” the minister asked.
Robert smiled broadly. “Yes, I do.”
“And do you, Marilyn, take Robert to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
“I do.” Marilyn replied.
“You may now kiss the bride!”
Helen played the Here Comes the Bride song as Marilyn raised her veil, revealing her excited flushed face. It grew even more so when Robert raised her up! Now at eye level, they kissed.
Five years later, Robert and Marilyn went to their tenth anniversary reunion… with their kids! There was Charlotte, Tom and little baby June. Everyone thought they were so adorable! (And they thought Betty was the best aunt!)
The Wadlow couple lived in bliss and their family lived happily ever after. The end!
...
“That was sweet,” Robert said. “Not a particularly realistic one, but it’s nice to think about marrying and starting a family,” He frowned at Betty’s look. “Not with Marilyn.”
“We’d have a minister at a wedding, not a priest. That’s Catholic,” Helen corrected her sister’s story. “I approve of the surprise viola solo, though.”
Eugene scoffed.
“What’s your problem with it, hmm?” Betty asked with a cross of her arms.
“It’s too happy. There needs to be excitement, tension!” Eugene said.
Just then, a pajama-clad Harold Jr. ran into the room.
“I know an exciting story!” he said.
He scrambled to the floor to give his idea of the future.
...
It was five years from now. Harold Jr. was nearly nine years old, which is very grown up. He was now a Boy Scout just like his big brother!
“Okay, Scouts, we’re going to have a fun day today..” said Scoutmaster Big Brother.
Scoutmaster Big Brother was actually Robert! Harold Jr. thought it was so much fun to have Robert in the Scouts again. And Robert enjoyed being back.
“It’s time for the big swimming contest,” Scoutmaster Robert said. “So put on your swimsuits and meet at the lake.”
It didn’t take long for Harold Jr. to put on his swimsuit. He was the first one at the lake!
“Would you like to go first?” Robert asked.
“Yes, I would!” Harold Jr. said.
He started to put a foot in the water, but Robert stopped him.
“You need to wait for everyone else.” he reminded him.
Harold Jr. tried to wait, but the other Scouts were taking so long! Scoutmaster Robert went off to look for them. While he was gone, Harold Jr. dipped a toe in the water. It was just a toe! But then it became a foot, then an ankle, then a whole leg…
*SPLASH!*
Harold Jr. fell right into the water! He tried to swim up, but his shoe got caught on a rock. He was stuck! Through the water, he heard someone say something. It was a deep voice. He tried to reach up to the voice, but his breath was getting lost. He was getting so tired…
Just then, there was a big splash. Harold Jr. saw a huge hand grab his arm. It was Scoutmaster Robert! Harold Jr. pointed to the rock and his big brother swam down. He was strong enough to get the rock away from Harold Jr’s shoe. Then he grabbed Harold Jr. and took him up. Harold Jr. held on really tight as Robert swam through the water.
Finally, they heard a rushing sound. It was the air. They were free!
“Thank you, Scoutmaster Big Brother!” Harold Jr. said.
“You’re welcome,” Robert set his baby brother on the ground. “You need to remember to wait. See what happens when you don’t?”
“Yes, I do,” Harold Jr. felt all embarrassed because of that. “I’m sorry.”
Robert smiled. “It’s okay. You’re safe now. Are you still up for the race?”
“Yeah!”
Then Harold Jr. jumped in the water with the other Scouts. And this time, he made sure everyone else was ready! He only got fourth place, but that was okay. Harold Jr. knew his big brother’s love was enough.
...
“Aww,” Betty said. “What a sweet story!”
“Yeah, that was great, Junior.” Robert agreed.
Harold Jr. gave a proud smile.
Eugene then said, “Here’s what I think will happen…”
...
February 22nd, 1941 was a day no one would forget. Robert was celebrating his twenty-third birthday in a rather… interesting way.
“I hereby declare Wadlow’s Shoes to be officially opened!” he hereby declared (whatever that means).
Then he cut a comically sized ribbon in front of him. As it fell back, Helen played a celebratory song on her viola. Betty and Harold Jr. applauded, smiles on their faces. Mom and Dad- I mean, Addie and Harold held each other close as they wiped away touched tears. The only family member missing was Eugene.
“I wonder where Gene is.” Robert wondered.
“He’s off getting a college degree,” Helen said. “But who needs him? There are plenty of people here already!”
Before anyone could speculate, a bunch of reporters pushed Helen aside. They pelted Robert with questions.
“Why did you decide to open up a shoe store?” one of them asked. “A fall out with Peter’s?”
“Oh, no, Peter’s and I are on good terms,” Robert said. “They helped fund this store. I’m very thankful for their donations!”
He led the reporters into the store. It was stocked with all kinds of shoes, from sneakers to heels and boots to slippers and even regular old dress shoes.
“Wait,” Harold said. “Where might your shoes be, son?”
“They’re right over here, Dad,” Robert told him. “Right in the display window.”
But when he pointed to the window, he was shocked to discover that one of them was missing!
“Where did it go?” Harold Jr. asked.
“I… I have no idea. It was here this morning,” Robert said, stunned. “Why, it was stolen!”
Gasps and whispers floated through the crowd.
“Oh my!” Addie exclaimed. “Who would do such a thing?”
Betty frowned as she said, “He did!”
She glared at the reporter with a point.
“Why would I do something like that?” the reporter asked. “I’m an honest man!”
“Oh, sure. You’d do anything for a story! Anything to stir up some drama.”
“I swear I didn’t take that shoe. I’ve never even stepped inside here until today!”
Helen started walking away, her viola in hand. She headed towards its case, which was tucked in the corner of the store.
“Wait a second,” Robert said. “I know who it was…”
Just then, Eugene walked in. He saw Helen walking past. The display window was right over her shoulder. His eyes widened.
“It was Eugene!”
“Wha- me?” Eugene asked in surprise. “What did I do?”
“You stole Big Brother’s shoe!” Harold Jr. said.
“I’ve been at college all day. There’s no way I could’ve done it.”
Harold stepped up. “Didn’t I ask you to check the store first since it’s on your route?”
“Yeah, but I just took a peek in. I was nowhere near the window.”
“Wait!” Robert exclaimed. “It’s Saturday. You couldn’t have been at college.”
“It was for one of my classes-”
“That’s it!” Helen yelled. “It wasn’t Gene…” She stepped up. “It was me!”
Everyone gasped.
“You stole my shoe?” Robert asked in shock.
“We should’ve known,” Betty said. “She was always pulling that stunt back in the day.”
Helen lowered her head. “Yes, I did. But Gene suggested it!”
Eugene flushed. “I only did it to distract everyone.”
“Why?” Harold Jr. asked.
“Everyone’s talking about Robert. We wanted reporters to give some attention to the rest of the family. Besides, we need a little excitement.”
Robert chuckled. “I think there’s enough excitement with the store opening! Fess up, Helen.”
After setting her viola in its case, Helen moved it aside. She opened a secret panel… and revealed the shoe!
“We’re sorry for causing all of this.” she apologized to Robert, the shoe in her hands.
“Yeah, we didn’t mean any harm,” Eugene added. “Just buzz.”
Robert smiled. “I understand. But before you put that shoe back…”
He turned to the reporters. Helen, Eugene and Robert all smiled as the camera snapped. They didn’t just capture Robert and his shoes… They captured everyone together.
...
 “What a story!” Betty exclaimed.
“Yeah, it had me on the edge of my seat.” Robert said.
“The plot twist was great,” Helen smiled at Eugene. “Nice job.”
Eugene smiled back. “Now that’s how you tell of the future.”
Just then, Harold Jr. let out a big yawn.
“Looks like it’s time to get to bed.” Robert said with a smile.
“No!” Harold Jr. exclaimed. “I wanna hear the last story.”
Everyone looked at Helen expectantly. She looked down at the paper before giving her vision of the future…
...
February 22nd, 1941 was a day no one would forget.
A sweet sound floated through the air. It came from Helen’s viola.
“Bravo!” Harold Jr. cheered.
“Brava.” Eugene corrected him.
Helen bowed. “Thank you!”
“That was lovely, Helen,” Robert said. “Just like this birthday. It sure is nice to not be in front of crowds and whatnot!”
“Look, you’re in the paper!” Betty exclaimed.
She showed him the article. All it said was, ‘Robert Wadlow Celebrates Birthday. Robert Wadlow turned 23 years old today. His only wish was to not be bothered by reporters and admirers, which will definitely be respected. He’s spending today in the peaceful presence of family.’
“It’s certainly peaceful,” Robert said. “And I’m glad that it’ll be that way for the rest of time!”
...
“That certainly sounds like an unforgettable day,” Robert remarked after Helen ended the story. “Although I doubt reporters will stop bugging me forever.”
Helen gave a shrug. “Who knows? Anything can happen.”
“That’s true,” Robert smiled at his siblings. “All of your stories were great. No matter what the future holds, I know it’ll be better with the ones I love.”

LITERALLY every single DR I have
I have not completed the scripts for most of them 😭😭
KEYS: 💭 = Non-Media / Not from a book, movie, or show DR
Sorry if the grammar is bad, I’m too lazy to look over this post 😭😭
Magical Girl DR 💭
heavily inspired by Precure bcccc it’s cute. Who doesn’t want to fight enemies with frilly dresses?
Regular School DR 💭
School but like filled with drama, I have some things written out 😭😭 it’s super 2015 Wattpad-y so idk if I’m gonna talk abt it
Fantasy Minecraft YouTuber DR 💭
I KNOW WHAT YOURE THINKING… I DO NOTTTT LIKE ANY MINECRAFT YOUTUBER OTHER THAN LDSHADOWLADY AND SNIFFERFISH. I MEAN THAT LITERALLY. don’t misunderstand, please and thank you 🫶
Dreamscape Station DR 💭
I had a vision, but I’ve yet to work on this script enough for me to post a lot about it 😞 I did post about it tho on my TikTok account! Essentially it’s like the backrooms but cute, ethereal, not dangerous (kinda), and full of shifters from other realities. You take a train to different parts of ‘Dreamscape’ and explore! I made tickets for this DR too 😭😭
K-Pop Stan Life DR 💭
Self explanatory. I’m gonna be a fansite, buy as many albums as I could possibly buy, and trade cards with ppl online + provide lots of freebies!
J-Pop Idol DR (💭 kinda)
This was a requested script from someone on my request form (I’ve just realized I didn’t link my request form here on tumblr… it should be up before anyone’s read this). I ended actually using this script for my love live DR cuz my old love live scripts were the ugliest thing on the planet
Obsidian Bride DR
Obsidian Bride is a manhwa that’s literally Singles Inferno but in an isekai otome manhwa world + everyone’s based off a gem, your gem is chosen based on your life and personality!
MHA DR
I was influenced to shift here bc of Priicklleshifts on TikTok 😭😭😭. I don’t really like the actual anime that much, but it seems like a really fun place to shift to! The script for this DR is 100% complete (I haven’t added anything to it for months now)
Wind Breaker DR
Wind Breaker’s a bike racing manhwa that you can read for free on Webtoon. Idk who I’m gonna date, but I literally CANNOT date Jay bc he reminds me of my brother 😭😭
Made of Stardust DR
I’m so mad that nobody’s shifting here 😭 if you like fantasy romance books, stars, enemies to lovers, magical forests, angst, etherealism, I bet your ass would want to shift here. I plan to be Kalisa, and so far I don’t want to change the plot
Futuristic K-Pop DR 💭
Also self explanatory. I do have a filled version of this DR up if anyone wants to use it (It’s not in my current format tho cuz the script is old asf😭). I scripted in a contestant show where the contestants would come from different planets (Mars, Earth, and Kepler smth… I don’t remember the numbers)
Better CR DR 💭
The place I’ll probably be permashifting to
Hallows Ball DR 💭
Okay so I started this script like 2 years ago or smth and I was supposed to finish it before Halloween (it’s a masquerade ball DR but with a twist) and I just haven’t finished it yet 😭 let’s hope I finish it this year
How to Get my Husband on my Side DR
Another manhwa DR!
TGCF DR
I bought the first book to read bc I absolutely loved the anime 😭😭 I haven’t read more than like 30 pgs… I just really don’t like it when books are in third person 😭😭
Fantasy Kpop DR 💭
I completely forgot about this DR until I went through my TikTok account to see how ugly my themes were 😭😭 Basically this DR is set in a fantasy world, each of the kpop groups I scripted in are of different species (fae, vampires, elves, etc…) and I’ve gotta gather certain groups to help me find artifacts in every single kingdom so that magic doesn’t disappear (so corny omfggg…)
Hogwarts DR
I only wanted to shift here bc everyone else wanted to 😭😭
Old Kpop DR 💭
Not gonna shift here anymore, but the script is complete 😭😭 I remade it for my Kpop contestant DR
Kpop Contestant DR 💭
Self explanatory, there’s filled and non filled versions on my linktree
My Own Kpop Group DR 💭
This script happens in the same reality as my Kpop contestant one, this is this group I’ll be in once my contestant group disbands. My own Kpop group is time and mythology themed!
Laurier Academy DR 💭
An actual idol school DR, you learn how to be a Kpop idol + a bunch of other stuff. I made a whole school website for this DR and there’s a four versions of this script:
Filled Co-Ed
Empty Co-Ed
Filled Girls Only
Empty Girls Only
(Co-ed is all genders in one school)
Elite School DR 💭
Idk why anyone uses this script bc not only is it ugly but the formatting is 😨😨 this was my first script that I posted to TikTok, and it has all the characters from my other DRs as students. Idk why, but I made everyone has an animal form. Mines a cat (kinda boring but I wanna be able to sneak around 😭)
Dragon Rider Academy (Aethergarde Academy DR) 💭
There’s also a filled version of this script in my linktree, don’t recommend it tho cuz it’s also poorly formatted and ugly. I think this was the second script I posted on my TikTok account
Shifting Library DR (Realmwalker Library) 💭
It’s a shifting library but better! All the books here are written by shifters. There’s different sections for world building, storytimes, quizzes, fanfics (of other ppls DRs), tips & methods, nsfw storytimes (adults only plz), philosophy related to shifting, and discussions about shifting (idk why I didn’t just merge discussions with philosophy..). Don’t be surprised if some or most of the shifters here aren’t human! I scripted that all non malevont beings that shift can come here; this does also mean that the books are automatically translated into the language you understand best. Oh and the authors aren’t always going to be human.
Love and Deepspace DR
My script for this one is pretty much complete, but I really want to know more about MC’s evol before shifting here 😭
Mental Health DR
I won’t talk about this DR at all on TikTok or on here (sorry) bc it’s super personal and I don’t want to seem like a damn baby 😭😭. I’m actually kind of scared of men irl, plus I didn’t have the best high school experience in my DR. My goal with this DR is to practice talking to people and get over my fear of men. This DR is my first ever DR; my original intent with shifting is to help get over my fear of men + people in general, especially taller people
Waiting Room
My waiting room is essentially an isekai manhwa mansion 😭😭 I scripted that there’s a serving cart with one of those 3 tiered afternoon snack things + milk tea, the milk tea has special properties that calm me down immediately when I drink it. My goal is to use the smell of the tea to know that I’ve shifted, and to drink the tea so I don’t fuck myself over and shift back to my OR 😭😭

heyyy questions for opal :) 2, 14, 30, B!
Wow did you know that if you ctrl-z in tumblr's new text editor it will delete everything you've been typing and not put it back. I HAD... SEVERAL PARAGRAPH ANSWERS THAT I HAD TO REDO. TRYING TO BE SERENE ABOUT THIS. anyways ty these were really fun especially B, i dont think i've talked this much about my oc making process before! answers below
2- How easy is it for your character to laugh?
HMM. I think surprisingly kind of hard! not that he's too serious for it, I think that opal just doesn't get jokes very easily, and has a hard time telling when people are joking. but the 'if you have to explain the joke it isn't funny' rule totally doesn't apply to him, if a joke goes over his head he WILL laugh after you explain it to him.
if i had to think of something that would for sure make them laugh... i feel like visual stuff gets him for sure, i think they'd really love those little dogs on social media with the fucked up haircuts.
Tumblr media
they'd laugh so hard they'd pass out at this thing
14- What animal do they fear most?
probably just any large dangerous animal. he has a sort of scared prey animal quality about him... i think he has 'being chased by a jaguar/tiger/bear/shark' dreams a lot. but it's really just anything they think could eat them and or rip them apart physically, common phobia animals that are more just 'creepy' like snakes or bugs are no problem.
30 - Who do they most regret meeting?
HMMM. interesting to answer because the campaign opal was in has been concluded for a while and I feel like he's resolved most of his personal issues with people. also, he's not very good at holding grudges really lol
there were some characters that were making his life harder for reasons he, at the time, did not have the full scope of understanding. opal viewed his involvement with them as his own fault (impulsively went in on crazy expensive body mod surgeries, ended up in debt to a kinda-evil rich guy & regularly being harrassed by someone sent to collect) so he definitely regretted it. but, again, things turned out to be a lot more complicated!
honestly upon finding out he was involved in some huge-scale universe at stake stuff after all, rather than being upset he was mostly just like oh i don't owe that guy thousands of dollars fr? Sweet (instantly forgets about all of it)
B- What inspired you to create them?
most of the campaigns i am or have been in have a particular time period they're set in, so that's usually where my dnd character concepts start! with opal's we were prompted to choose a distinct era/universe of our choosing for our player characters, since they'd all be from different worlds. i definitely had retro futurism on the brain for opal, specifically 80s to y2k era...
he's a character that came to me in aesthetic and design first i think. more than the more shiny glam looks that come to mind in y2k futurism and modern stuff that replicates it, i really wanted that sort of... sterile, uniform-y, limited color palette look. lots of beige and white and grey, functionality-first and technical-made-fashionable. his outfit is just the company-assigned uniform he wears to his manual labor and service jobs, but it still has that cute stylish spin to it!
a specific example i referenced would be these looks from Michiko Koshino F/W 1996. graphic and fashionable while still evoking the functionality and simplicity of a uniform or other more practical wear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the future opal is in is really the future as it exists in a dated, speculative vision from the 80s to early 2000s. not quite as fantastical as a lot of space-age futurism, because it's from an era where 'futuristic technologies' were really beginning to be made on a consumer scale and put to use in day to day life... so it's a bit more cynical and fearful and dystopian, because the practical applications & the consequences of futuristic advancements were a bit easier to consider.
opal's world has the bleak nightmarish feeling of i have no mouth and i must scream & even to more overtly comedic degrees as like, black mirror lol... but it's still kind of silly and impractical and campy. as much as he exists as a working class individual in a hyper capitalist hellworld, those 'zenon girl of the future' disney movies are a big ingredient to him as well! as miserable as his life gets he isn't meant to be a sad character. he's not mopey. he gets dressed up in silly little outfits and has a silly little laser gun.
Wow did you know 2001 a space oddysey and barbarella came out the same year? it's that sort of dichotomy of scifi vibe.
uhhh also i'd just played a confident mean boy (kalibri) and thought a spineless scared guy would be fun to try next

Tips on how to find cute vintage clothes
•❅───✧❅✦❅✧───❅•❅───✧❅✦❅✧───❅•
this post is inspired by a tiktok from @blackhairedbrat go watch it and show it love!!
Knowing your tastes:
theres so many things to look into when it comes to vintage clothes. obvi, u wanna start with what period of time u aspire to dress like. late 90s, early 2000s, mid 80s, 50s-60s, 2010s (not really vintage but its definitely making a comeback). also knowing what styles looked like during those times in different countries can definitely broaden ur horizons. examples like japan during the 90s, central europe in the 2000s, and the U.S. in the 70s can definitely open u to new things u didn't know u are into. pick and choose stuff, make it ur own, its all up to u on what ur signature look is!
once u settled on a time period(s), research into the fashion scenes. there are many sub-genres of fashion back in the day that translate into the aesthetics we know today, such as goth, preppy, grunge, mcbling, futuristic, and many more. go with whatever fits ur personality or even a version of urself u always wanted to be. see whats compatible with your proportions; what u wanna accentuate and minimize, the materials of clothes and colors, the makeup, any and all of it!
once u got all ur shit figured out, make a mood board, follow some brands that were popular during that time, and start curating your closet. get rid of anything that u don't really wear anymore or that u feel doesn't suit ur vision.
Where to look:
thrift stores like savers, salvation army, goodwill, etc.
online shops (depop, grailed, etsy, poshmark)
shop locally (go to pop up shops/flea markets, follow people on instagram that sells secondhand, use related tags to find users, etc.)
ask for hand me downs from relatives, friends, literally anyone who u know had pieces from the desired era u wanna dress like
malls! the more run down the better! look for stores that are reminiscent of clothes u want.
small businesses that garner towards a certain aesthetic!
Other helpful tips:
FIND ALTERNATIVES! nothing is ever ideal. beggers can't be choosers right?
when leaning into more of the punk/alternative stuff, DIY it to make it more authentic. i do it all the time its fun!
trading. (sorta tied to both the online shops and locally shop points previously) surprisingly, people will trade their stuff as long as u have something equally as good or valuable. just gotta look at the right places on the internet and stay safe.
↶*ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊ-↶*ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊ-↶*ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊ-↶*ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊ-↶*ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷
Have fun and don't get scammed, u fashion icon!

On Starfield
The more I play Starfield, the more I get annoyed at how incredibly uncreative and unambitious its vision of a futuristic spacefaring world is.
There is a lack of any distinct culture among the game's different planets and factions. Aside from different aesthetics between the UC and FC, and the different political structures, there is basically no distinct religion, ideology, practices, or real sense of identity across any of them.
All of the non-joinable factions are the same. They're spacers, mercenaries, pirates, or cultists. They don't have motives, they don't have goals, they don't have agendas, they're just there for you to shoot on sight. In terms of gameplay they are all identical as well - they don't have different equipment, tactics, etc.
There are some positive nods towards these ideas at times, like the two major religions, but these rarely come up. There are also things like Vlad's "pirate speech" that hint at more distinct culture, but he's he only NPC in the game who talks this way - even other pirates don't.
Enhance?
I also have to call out how badly Enhance breaks the setting.
This is technology that apparently lets you cheaply, safely, and easily alter your appearance in nearly every way. Sculpt your body. Remove signs of aging. Heal scars, skin conditions, and tattoos. Change your sex characteristics. All for 500 credits.
Yet you never meet an NPC who changes how they look regularly. You never see anyone experimenting with radical new looks, or experimenting with different gender presentation. You never hear about the medical implications for things like quality of life.
Obviously some people wouldn't want to make use of Enhance for various reasons, but the knock-on effects to society would be massive and nearly irreversible. For instance, wouldn't being able to constantly change how you look become a class signifier?
This also extends to gameplay - why isn't there a quest to track down an assassin who keeps changing how they look? Why can't you do the same to infiltrate a corporate HQ?
Starfield also features implants which are implied to be brain interfaces of some kind. You can install (and even easily swap) chips that plug into your head that make you more persuasive, intimidating, etc.
Why doesn't the impact of cybernetics that can alter human intelligence and capability ever come up? You'd think that this would be highly controversial - basically requiring workers to get modded or become obsolete. You'd also think the religions of the setting would have thoughts on these technologies and how they affect the human body as well.
There are already profound discussions about the impact of AI happening in our society, and this technology is barely a couple of years old. Why hasn't it completely changed Starfield's setting after presumably being around for many years now?
LGBTQ Stuff
This also more broadly ties into the game's trans and non-binary representation. Even though Starfield features a pretty big variety of fashion styles, hair colours, etc. and even lets the player select non-binary pronouns, you almost never come across anyone who is visibly queer-presenting. Nobody has fun hair colours, and you absolutely never see any kind of gender bending.
This isn't a cultural thing in the game - gay and lesbian relationships are frequently mentioned and seem commonplace, and it's clear there is no persecution of LGBTQ people in the setting.
Despite this, pretty much everyone presents as cis and heteronormative, even though this is a futuristic setting with all the tools available for maximum gender expression. It would have been great to see visibly AFAB people with facial hair, AMAB people wth femme presentation, or androgynous people who aren't obviously one or another gender. But we don't.
And for all the talk of pronouns, so far I haven't found a single NPC who uses they/them.
Starfield's vision of the future is boring
There are plenty of other questions beyond politics, culture, identity, presentation as well, that I haven't even touched on, like the fact that the game can't decide how its communication technology works (do people have the internet? email? do phones exist? why can't I just call or text people?). But I think the point I'm making here is pretty clear.
Basically, the more I play of Starfield, the more it just feels like a massively boring setting that squanders every single chance it has for creating a vibrant, colourful setting that feels truly futuristic.
This game doesn't need to be Cyberpunk 2077 - it has a different setting and different priorities. But it almost never, ever explores any of the ideas it sets up at any more than a surface level, it never bothers to pursue them to their conclusions, and it never offers answers or explanations for why things aren't more interesting.
What makes me most disappointed is how this seems to reflect on Bethesda as a game developer.
If this flat, sterile, unambitious vision for the future is the best that Bethesda can present its players, what does that say about the creative direction and leadership of the studio? Is this a reflection of its own team makeup? Or is it a reflection of the future it wants to see?

Multiplayer first-person shooter games are all fun until he finds himself in a tough situation. This one is a little different because with the help of solid vision it really does feel like he’s on the battle grounds. Funny how much he’d urged Kaiba for them to try it out only for him to end up in this odd position.
Turning back moments ago, the Pharaoh was quick on his feet. There is a vest on his chest with one red dot in the centre. Each player has to hit the dot so the other person to lose. Atem has a knack for using his agility when it comes to strategy, stealth, and speed. It’s what helped him survive physical confrontation in his past life. And looks like Kaiba has had enough of Atem running around. Quite frankly, Atem wasn’t even aiming for the dot on Kaiba’s vest. Instead, he wanted to test his stamina.
And fast forward to the tight situation. He’s been here before. Once. His weapon is cast aside. It’s not exactly resembling the regular guns. It’s more futuristic looking with a glowing tint that can be changed to the player’s taste.
Kaiba’s legs are weighing down onto him where he can’t wiggle himself out even if he tried.
“Rrr,” Atem huffs. His first reaction is to grab on Kaiba’s thighs and push against them. In the end, he just applies pressure into them with his fingers. Amethystine-violet gaze narrows, looking up at the other.
Tumblr media
“What’re you waiting for? Go ahead. Pull the trigger.” He provokes.
That’s fine if he loses this game. He has an idea on what to do about it. And once more, he firmly squeezes the spot his digits are clutching on.

Revamp Your Kitchen with IKEA Cabinets: Cabinet Door Exploration
Tumblr media
Your kitchen is the heart of your house, and nothing revives it like a well-designed and organized room. IKEA is a popular choice for kitchen upgrades among many homeowners. IKEA has a large selection of kitchen cabinets that are not only attractive and functional, but also reasonably priced. In this blog, we'll delve into the intriguing world of IKEA kitchen cabinets and investigate the various varieties of cabinet doors available to assist you in designing your dream kitchen.
IKEA Kitchen Cabinets: A Kitchen Design Game-Changer
IKEA is known for their trendy, attractive, and affordable home furniture, and their kitchen cabinets are no exception. IKEA offers various kitchen solutions that can be adjusted to match any area, whether you live in a small apartment or a large house.
The cabinets are the foundation of every IKEA kitchen. You may effortlessly mix and match styles, sizes, and finishes to create a personalized effect. IKEA cabinets are well-known for their durable construction and sensible design, making them an excellent choice for long-term kitchen use.
Cabinet Doors: Your Style Entryway
Cabinet doors are quite important in determining the overall appearance of your kitchen. They are the "face" of your cabinets, and choosing the proper style may make a big difference in the overall look of your room. Fortunately, IKEA offers a wide variety of cabinet doors to accommodate a variety of design tastes.
Slab Doors: Embracing Simplicity
Slab doors may be the perfect match for you if you like minimalist and contemporary design. These doors have a flat and smooth surface, giving them a clean and uncluttered appearance. Slab doors complement IKEA's modern kitchen cabinets and can make a tiny kitchen appear larger and more streamlined.
Shaker Doors with Classic Elegance
Shaker doors are timeless and have long been a popular choice for kitchen cabinets. The unique five-piece construction with a recessed centre panel elevates any kitchen. Shaker doors complement a wide range of design styles, from classic to transitional to modern farmhouse.
Tumblr media
The Attractiveness of Slim Shaker Cabinet Doors
If you like the beauty of shaker doors but want a more polished aesthetic, slim shaker cabinet doors are an option. These doors have thinner stiles and rails, giving your kitchen a sleek and contemporary look while keeping the essence of traditional shaker design.
The Benefits of Customization
One of the most significant benefits of IKEA cabinets is their capacity to be customized to meet your individual requirements. From the optimum cabinet size to the optimal door style and finish, you can create a kitchen that reflects your own personality and lifestyle.
Adding Custom Doors to Your IKEA Cabinets
While IKEA has a wide selection of beautiful cabinet doors, some homeowners may prefer to investigate bespoke door choices to create a really one-of-a-kind kitchen. IKEA Custom cabinet doors enable you to experiment with various materials, coatings, and designs, ensuring that your kitchen stands out from the crowd.
Conclusion
Putting IKEA kitchen cabinets in your kitchen is a thrilling experience that opens up a world of possibilities. From choosing the right cabinet type to customizing the doors to match your vision, you can design a kitchen that not only meets your functional demands but also becomes a place where you love spending time.
IKEA has alternatives to suit every taste, whether you prefer the simplicity of slab doors, the timeless elegance of shaker doors, or the futuristic appeal of slim shaker cabinet doors. Custom cabinet doors, on the other hand, are your ticket to an outstanding kitchen that expresses your personality.
So, roll up your sleeves, let your imagination run wild, and go on your IKEA kitchen makeover trip to create a culinary utopia that you'll treasure for years to come. Have fun designing!

UNDER THE RADAR: OCTOBER 2022
Tumblr media
We’re closing out Spooktober with Under the Radar releases from Glass Forest, Dil Brito, Viridian, Fellow Kids, Leanna Oki, and ADELINE!
1) Glass Forest - “Better Off Alone”
“There’s only one thing I can do / I tell myself that / I’ll find my way without you.”
Glossy heartbreak and the steady empowerment of letting go. “Better Off Alone” is captivating bedroom pop. Stephen Clarke’s crystalline synths latch on to Nick Owen’s soft, deep vocals, giving the composition a smooth and energizing atmosphere, despite its inherent sadness. Written post-breakup, the song unravels painful memories and confronts challenging emotions. Abby Wale and Nick Owen’s songwriting is brave and honest: “But there’s something that I need to know / Did you love him all along?” Clash and turmoil simmer, while a space of softness is still held. It meshes beautifully with sparkling melodies and soft, haunting echoes. Time resonates and heals everything.
Written by: Jenna Keeble
2) Dil Brito - “Half a Thought”
By offering commentary on the Vancouver housing crisis and real estate market, “Half a Thought” underhandedly commands attention. It discusses unequal wealth distribution, the players, bystanders, and how we all inevitably attempt to partake in order to survive. An art, education, market necessity, tragic economic and social issue—a different label for each individual navigating living (and working to pay the bills) in Metro Vancouver. A two-parter in sound, together the blending chord progression and stacked vocal harmonies cry hapless and discomfort. The experimental folk song has a hushed and conspicuous air, droney as it moves into the second half.
I feel heavy after one listen, but I’d like to think it’s a weight and burden that should be considered. As a person with much to learn about a market I’m hoping to get into, there’s much to say about the nature of supply/demand, impact of socio-economic status, and quality of living (“but maybe I don’t see the way the frame’s worth the rot”). Dil Brito’s album Fences Glimpses Glances (Gavin Lake Recordings) is out now.

3) Viridian - “Slowly / Letting Go”
The peace in stillness, and a gentle nudge to move forward. “One, two, three / Breathe in slowly / There you find me.” Viridian’s “Slowly / Letting Go” is an ornate and dreamy play on time. Dainty organs and airy, soft vocals make up Michael Di Spirito and Danielle Davie’s immaculate vision. Sonically reminiscent of Ex:Re, Beach House and Radiohead, Viridian plays with indie grunge and pristine pop.
A hint of sorrow resides in the lyrics: “Stuck with just you and me / Here where we’ve always been.” Cascades of electric strings build up in the end of the track, as ethereal processed voices ring out like chimes. Hauntingly peaceful.

Written by: Jenna Keeble
4) Fellow Kids - “Fire Away”
"Left myself open / embraced the omen / couldn’t tell you how.”
“Fire Away” has a futuristic and funky nature, and I say that as a compliment. The band worked with producer Tom Dobrzanski (The Zolas) to “[push] the boundaries,” using groovy guitar licks, distorted vocals, and densely layered instrumentals to form a full sound. Thematically, it contemplates light and dark – the allure of our choices between right and wrong. The song made me feel very alive, it’s conflicted but in a way, daring the signs to show their hand. Lead vocalist Navin Sundar has a confidence and snap in his voice, it’s assertive and in-line with the flourish of instruments. It’s a fresh approach for the group, and feels polished and ‘pop-ier’ than their past rock/indie rock repertoire. I find it fun, modern, and love the ambition within.
Written by: Chloe Hoy
5) Leanna Oki - “It was all a lie”
This is a vulnerable and poignant song about losing a lost love. The singer really opens her mind and emotions of expressing her true feelings and the grief that comes after a breakup. You can feel the heartbreak expressed through your ears with her somber voice, moody synth, and pulsing string section. The music and vocals really compliment each other to deliver a single that is heartfelt, honest, and haunting.
Whether you've experienced this kind of loss recently, a long time ago, or never, this track will help you get that feeling in words. Love comes and goes, and when it does go, it really hurts. I loved this as my introduction to Leanna and I can't wait to see what other thoughts she has in store if this is any indication of her talents!
Written by: Cazzy Lewchuk
6) ADELINE - “Never Tell”
What would have fit perfectly in an early 2010′s Disney Channel film, I instead get the pleasure of nostalgic listening with “Never Tell.” It reminisces about someone important in one’s life, and the feelings held both during that period and now that they’re no longer present (in the same ways as before). While it references “babe,” I think it aptly applies to any figure who leaves a positive impact—a go-to person, a listener or confidant who makes you better. The encouragement, support, inside jokes, and understanding can’t be easily replicated. A masterclass in classic pop structure, the sugary cut has an upbeat and catchy melody, with electric guitar, immersive synths, and a prominent bass drum beat.
“Never Tell” is music for ‘when words fail,’ and signifies that while roles change, people never truly leave your life. Her debut EP Like It That Way is out now.

It’s the classic green shade often featured in movies and TV shows when a character is sneaking around in the dark. You’re probably familiar with the way image enhancement looks in night goggles. This grabs tiny amounts of ambient light from a source (like a person or a deer) to give you a nighttime view. Some goggles use a tactic called image enhancement. Night vision goggles work in a few different ways. Luckily, night vision goggles can help you see clearly in the dark for hundreds of yards. Owls, foxes and other nocturnal mammals have stellar night vision, but their abilities don’t translate to humans. Not involved in espionage? No worries - night vision goggles are a great accessory for nighttime games, hunting and more. If you’re an international spy who needs a new pair of night vision goggles to work under the cover of darkness, you’ve come to the right place. Durable and lightweight, these fun goggles work so well that you might just find yourself borrowing them from your child so you can have your turn enjoying some super stealth, covert nighttime missions of you own! #Spy net eye clops ultra visio free#
Because the display screen is small and provides limited peripheral vision, these goggles should only be used in environments that are free of potential tripping hazards. While the EyeClops Night Vision goggles provide a crisp, clear image of dark landscapes, they should always be used under adult supervision. Soft rubber molding around the goggles and adjustable straps across the top and sides makes them comfortable and easy to wear. The futuristic design of the durable plastic head-piece adds to the fun of these exciting night vision goggles. A small switch on the side of the goggle head-set allows them to switch from a black-and-white to a green screen display. Your child can choose between the maximum surveillance mode which emits a barely-visible ring of red LEDs around the eyepiece so they can see up to 50 feet in absolute darkness, or go for the stealth mode to remain completely invisible while they explore the dark landscape immediately around them. EyeClops Night Vision goggles come equipped with a hinged, flip-up eye-piece that can be opened when the goggles are turned off, or closed when the goggles are in use. Once the screen display lights up inside of the right eye-piece, you can fit the goggles to your child’s head by adjusting the soft rubber straps around top and sides. Simply insert five AA batteries into the battery pack at the back of the head-set, and slide the power switch to turn on the goggles. With the EyeClops Night Vision goggles, your child can explore dark environments with advanced infrared technology. These fun goggles are the perfect companion for slumber party sleep-overs or camp-outs. Enjoy the thrill of real night vision technology with EyeClops Night Vision stealth goggles! These super stealth goggles allow kids ages eight and older to see in absolute darkness using infrared illumination so they can explore the dark landscape around them. And I feel like he got a lot more attention : he was polite and polite. Alternatively, it gives a momentary reprieve to heal and recover mid-battle. It allows the protagonist to use Psychokinesis to their heart’s content without worrying about dodging attacks. Her ability to slow time opens to many possibilities. That said, her Hypervelocity power is fantastic in high-stress battle situations. She sees things like having a relationship with her brother as a “meaningless task”, and even when she opens up more, it doesn’t fade to a satisfactory degree. It goes slightly deeper than that, though, and she’s outright uncaring towards many people in her life. After that, he has such an infectious optimism, it’s hard to say anything bad about him. Once Yuito and/or Kasane help him see that, he opens up significantly. His insecurities about being a former dud blind him to the possibility of doing great things outside of battle. The constant drive to better himself is admirable but also slightly tragic when you understand why it’s there. His problem is that his ability is only helpful in narrow circumstances. Luka is quite likeable from a personal standpoint. It can be great to land a solid strike or take a moment to recover, but it’s not very practical in the heat of an intense battle. His invisibility power, while useful in the story, isn’t that useful for battle. That doesn’t necessarily make them forgivable, as Yuito himself says, but it certainly softens the blow. There grows an understanding of why he acts as he does and how he was left with little choice when it came to many of his worst actions. That said, as the story grows and his facade slowly drops in Bond Episodes.

The Creative Directors Behind Fate: The Winx Saga Must Not Be K-Pop Fans
Also, they have a pretty wrong idea of the role fashion should play in a show.
Tumblr media
There are a few words that will stand out across most reviews of Netflix's Fate: The Winx Saga - drab, boring, flop, flat, unimaginative. Critics and audiences consensus is that the show is not only a mediocre-at-best story, but also an atrocious (and ultimately confusing) choice of adaptation of the color pop and fairy magic cartoon it’s based on, 2004 italian cartoon Winx Club.
Fate has plenty of it's own issues - white washing and erasing characters, cringey dialogue, outdated melodrama, etc. But where it truly, unequivocally fails is as an adaptation. Fate misses everything that was magical and lovable about the original series, in all levels, from bizarre writing choices, - such as never actually developing any sense of friendship between the characters, who are based on a cartoon about…..a group…….of friends -, but it's especially and immediately felt in the art direction and costume design.
Winx Club is set on a fantastical world, Magix, where each of our main characters hail from a different planet, à la Sailor Moon. Alfea, the fairy school they attend, is the most common background: a pastel colored, futuristic high tech-meets-fantasy, art nouveau inspired castle. Alfea sets the tone for the whole visual of the cartoon: bright, colorful, futuristic meets vintage, leaning into the technological positivism of the Y2K style, uniting it with magic, DnD worthy monsters and, of course, fairy wings. Often featured are also the Red Fountain school, where the Specialists train, and especially Cloud Tower, the goth and gothic inspired witch school Alfea has an OxBridge rivalry with (How cool would that be in a live action? I guess we’ll never know…).
On Fate, Alfea is the only school we ever see, and it’s another beige boarding school in not-Britain, somehow set in a magical world where everyone has the exact same technology and even social media that we have on Earth in 2021, no transformations and, most egregiously, no fairy wings.
This lack of visual creativity is pervasive throughout the whole show, and its most heartbreaking iteration is in the characters' wardrobe. The styling has the barest bones of a color scheme, - such as 'Bloom has to only dress in red since fire, duh',- the clothes are ill fitting, bland, dark and very dated. These are supposed to be teenagers who enjoy fashion, and yet they look like varying types of soccer moms from 2010.
The series seems to operate on an old and tired vision that women and girls can’t have depth and have adventures and fight monsters while also caring about fashion, a vision that the original show played a big, big role in challenging in the early 2000's. Fashion and costume design sets as much of the tone of a visual medium as the script does; through clothes we can gauge characters’ backgrounds, passions, and personality.
Winx Club has some of the best examples of this in the cartoon sphere - Bloom’s comfortable and bright style, Stella’s glitzy and bold, Musa’s edgy and cool, Aisha’s sporty and fun, Techna’s neon and tech gear inspired, Flora’s earthy and romantic, they all work as extensions of each character and serve a narrative purpose. And that’s not even mentioning how insulting it feels that in their quest to make Winx “edgier, darker” and fit for an older audience, the creators of Fate somehow decided that was in opposition to caring about style and fashion. Most “girly” shows, including the Winx Club are just as much adventure action shows as the ones geared towards boys, and it’s emphasis in fashion, friendship and color does not detract from that. The original run of the cartoon deals with war, violence, grief, abusive relationships and even genocide; leaning into those plotlines would not require Fate to erase any integral parts of what made Winx so beloved, and the fact that they did shows that the Netflix team completely missed the point of fashion in the original show, and really, the point of fashion and costume design in the world building of any show.
Tumblr media
That, however, is not a mistake K-Pop makes very often; (This might seem like a bit of wild swerve in topic, but stay with me here). Unlike it's western counterpart, the Korean pop scene never lost the emphasis on music videos and how the visual medium can complete and potentialize music and performance; the K-Pop culture is very album and concept oriented in a way that has been all but lost in many other pop circuits, and the music video, styling and set design of a ‘comeback era’ is a key point of excitement among fans.
As such, music videos that follow storylines, connected universes, boundary pushing concepts and visual effects are the norm, rather than the exception, and a list could be made of works that are beautiful examples of what a live action Winx adaptation could look like. In fact, and very smoothly, here is a small list of exactly that!
A Small List of K-Pop Music Videos That Are Better Winx Club Live Actions Than Fate: The Winx Saga
3. Red Velvet - Psycho
Tumblr media
If it was a darker and more somber look that Fate wanted, there was a way to make it actually appealing. While it still feels a liiitle too grown up and elegant for Winx, (maybe this author is biased, as a full proponent for the Y2K fun) Psycho makes a very compelling argument for a witchy, mysterious, fairy tale-esque show that could look scrumptious and definitely not boring, or even a gorgeous example of what the witches in Cloud Tower could look like. Black and white, dark green, pastel blue and pops of jewel tones make Psycho's color palette. To add interest to the understated colors, the styling is heavy on textures; We see plenty of stonework, intricate embroidery, tassels, lace on lace on lace, feathers, bows, opera gloves and lots of glitter. All of that is offset by bold, dark makeup, leather accents and eerie cinematography. Needle & Thread, Marchesa Notte and Self Portrait lend their hyper feminine and intricately detailed tulle gowns, juxtaposed with the creepiness of the lyrics and the dark backgrounds; their deep berry and green fairy tale looks are built with pieces from Zara to Nina Ricci to Dolce & Gabbana to Alexander McQueen.
Red Velvet’s more edgy styling for 2018's Bad Boy would also not feel out of place on the Trix.
Tumblr media
2. IZ*ONE - Fiesta
Tumblr media
IZ*ONE kicked off 2020 with sweet and fun Fiesta. The MV features rooms with mismatched décor that go from retro to space opera, rocky faux landscapes that feel other worldly, and visual effects that would look perfect on the back of a transformation sequence. Mirroring the set design, the girls wear various outfits by sustainable up and coming brand Chopova Lowena. Their signature skirts made with discarded and repurposed fabrics give a cool and interesting twist on a schoolgirl look that would look very sweet for a band of school fairies that occasionally go off to save the world. Also, wouldn't those bedazzled headphones look great on Musa's fairy outfit?
1. Aespa - Black Mamba and Next Level
Tumblr media
Aespa is what fans call a monster rookie. With only three music videos under their belt, they still have some of the most visually interesting work in the industry right now. Their concept is very tied in with high tech, featuring even AI avatars of each member, packaged in a glitzy, fantastical and futuristic aesthetic, candy pop meets cyberpunk. I think I’ve exhausted ways to say that is exactly what a perfect Winx adaptation should feature.
Their debut smash hit, 2020’s Black Mamba is truly a perfect moodboard for live action Winx. Wearing a sequined and colorful mix and match of Dollskill, Gucci, Didu and Balenciaga to a backdrop that features some alien fairy forest realness, a pyschedelic fever dream, rooms straight out of a Y2K catalog or donning lime green and black techwear inside a metro fighting the "black mamba", Aespa look through and through the part of fashion loving fairies who save the world together, while looking fierce, stylish and, most importantly, interesting.
The styling and the sets jump seamlessly from more casual colorful fits with blouses, shirts and baggy pants to barren, darkly lit backgrounds and fringe-and-glitter heavy pieces necessary to fight giant snakes, in a way so fitting to transformation outfits for magical girls we could cry.
Tumblr media
In their third MV, 2021's Next Level, the cyber in their concept is taken up a notch (get it. because Next Level-), set to a futuristic urbanscape intersped with a planet made of crystals and the ocasional alien fauna popping up again. We get treated to Monse, The 2nd Skin Co., Johanna Ortiz and The Attico styled to fairy princess standards, sporty sky racers and a white and sequined group styling that is top ten fairy busy saving the world uniform material, or maybe even a specialist worthy getup.
This particular look from Ningning is so Techna that it almost feels as if it's mocking Netflix.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And doesn’t this Karina trapped inside the "black mamba" in Alexander McQueen feel like a perfect Dark Bloom moment?
These are only a few examples of interesting and creative designs that are in line with what a live action Winx Club should have given us. There are so many more I could list, even among other TV Shows, like Sex Education and even polemic dark Euphoria, that know how to have fun with style and design without losing the depth of their stories. In the end, it's hard to justify why Fate creators even wanted to make an adaptation that didn't even try to capture the heart of its source material, and all we can do is watch one more "Restyling Fate: The Winx Saga" video on Youtube whilst mildly dreading season 2.

So yeah LITG is dead, but my brain has decided that my OCs and Noah are the only thing that matter. Here’s an extremely self indulgent, extremely short fic about my OC Bellamy planning his wedding to Shannon LoveIsland
Shannon slid into the chair slowly, fluidly, nearly as intentionally as she crossed her legs and folded her hands. Her polite smile was returned by the woman across the desk, who started introductions, and Shannon glanced at Bellamy in the seat next to her, or, the empty chair that he was supposed to be sitting in. The passing glance turned into a double take, which turned into her craning her neck to find him. He, of course, had gotten distracted by a photo album near the door they entered, and began leafing through it without asking permission.
She cleared her throat, and when he didn’t react gently called, “Ami.” He nodded, starting to walk towards them without raising his head from the book, then snapped it closed and sat down. Rather, he perched on the chair, knee pulled to his chest and one leg draped over the armrest. He hand found his forearm, and she gently held it.
The wedding planner smiled warmly and started over her introductions, before adding, “so tell me, generally, what you had in mind.”
“First you should know, we haven’t discussed it at all. That might be a bit of a challenge for you, because there might be some… dissonance between the visions. But we looked over your portfolio” Shannon spared a withering glance to the photobook still in Bellamy’s lap that he was still flipping through, “before we came and we’re both confident you’ll come up with something we both love.”
“We don’t know that, we haven’t even talked-” Bellamy whispered directly to her, before remembering the third person and looking up, “I think we both have great taste and it’ll be easier than Shan thinks.”
The planner laughed, politely, “my job isn’t to be easy, it’s to make this process easier for you two. There’s no difference in taste that we can’t find a happy medium between. What were you thinking?”
Shannon turned her chin towards him, almost imperceptibly inviting him to speak. Without recognizing that he picked up on her cue, Bellamy shifted in his seat and began.
“Sorry if I only talk about the decor and vibes, that’s really all I’m concerned with. I’d love to do all the decorations myself, but event planning’s not my strong suit and the shop’s been so busy-”
“Oh, what do you do?”
He opened his mouth to answer and Shannon slid in before the inevitable and almost automatic ‘I make artisan nipple rings’ slipped out of his mouth, “he’s a jeweler.”
The planner clapped her perfectly manicured hands together softly, “oh how fun! Is he going to work on your wedding bands?”
It was Shannon’s turn to grin proudly, and she outstretched her hand to show off the silver band with a brilliant solitaire diamond set into an intricately carved band, “made from scratch, the wedding bands too.”
The woman cooed for the requisite amount of time, gently turning Shannon’s hand, before shifting back towards Bellamy.
“It’s beautiful. So you’d like to do decor for the ceremony, but don’t have time. I’m sure we could work something out so that you can do some statement pieces and then we work around that, or just emulate the style you’re going for. What’s the general look you have in mind?”
Bellamy pulled his second leg up, shifting his weight to tuck a shin under himself. “So I think we both want something very cutting edge, tasteful, but not trendy. Almost futuristic, maybe? I don’t want to say avant garde, because it’s a wedding not performance art, but I want the vibe to be really memorable and unique. I want it to be, like, a wedding for the joy of it. You know in apocalypse movies where there’s the wedding or the childbirth or a moment of respite, and it’s so much more intimate and meaningful in the context of everything else? I want that.”
“You want…” the woman looked between Bellamy and Shannon’s unreadable expression, eyebrows raised, “an apocalypse theme?”
“No, just like, the vibe of… Well I think the best word for it is respite. I don’t want a zombie themed-”
“Zombies.”
“Doesn’t even have to be zombies. A natural disaster or-”
“A natural disaster, darlin?” Shannon couldn’t keep the amusement out of her voice, “you want your family to be thinking about global warming on our wedding day?”
“No! I want them to be thinking how amazing it is that we’re doing this despite everything else. That it’s a borderline miracle. Like everything else in the world has gone to pieces, but we have this lovely moment. A respite.”
The two women didn’t respond, instead sitting in silence, Shannon with an amused grin and the wedding coordinator in subtle shock.
He interrupted the mounting tension in the silence, “maybe I want Oliver to think about global warming a little bit on our wedding day. But I think you’re missing the point- it’s not about the look of post-apocalypse, it’s about the feeling. Like the world is a cold, sad, hard place but in our space it’s warm and happy and earnest.”
“... right.” The wedding planner kept her tone non-judgemental, but her eyes were frozen wider than looked natural, “and how do you want to convey that, through venue or decor? Surely the moment will feel just as warm across the different styles. Or we could bring in some cremes or browns for that warmth-”
“It’d be cool to have it in some kind of abandoned factory, you know one that has nature kind of reclaiming the space. Vines and things.”
“A factory.”
“And that would contrast really nicely with some of the metal accent decor. We both hate brutalism, so lean more into the organic shapes than the mechanical. It’s almost about the deconstruction of the mechanical elements. It’d be lovely to find somewhere that has arches or curved concrete, but that’s a whole thing so maybe we just bring the sharp angles out into more of a curve with furniture or decor. As long as the way we draw the eye around the room is softer, more languid, then I’ll be happy.”
He continued, seemingly forgetting his audience and speaking faster, eyes down on the table where his hands gestured out shapes and concepts. “You walk a really fine line with metallic fixtures, I don’t want it to look of a millennial gastropub. The way to counteract that might be grime- if we go for dirty floors, weathered metal, antique industrial elements it’ll curb that manufactured industrial look. It can’t look like an Ikea catalog, we’re trying to bring in more artistry than just wholesale buying everything together. I really love the look of cracked concrete with greenery growing through or how when organics sit on concrete for long enough they leave those darker, soily stains. So if that’s the venue, then the decor can be extremely dainty and soft to tell that story. You know, of creating a safe place. I’m thinking some tasteful chiffon drapes up at the altar and instead of florals doing lots of vines. Thrifted vintage cutlery that doesn’t match each other but is all varying shades of beige to copper. I’m not saying any of this well, but I know it when I see it.”
The woman across the desk stayed silent for a minute after he finished rambling, taking loose notes. Then she nodded slowly, working her tongue in front of her teeth. Intentionally pivoting her body to face Shannon, she said loudly and a bit too firmly “and what are you thinking?”
That was the first bit of irritation with the entire process Bellamy felt. He’d been enchanted by the prospect of proposing after laying eyes on her, but hadn’t until she all but told him she wanted him to, over seven years later. He’d never been frustrated by the fact that Shannon didn’t want to get married, simply because it was indeed a fact. Them never being married was as true and self evident as the tides. He’d never considered to be resentful of it.
But now, after the seemingly impossible had come to pass and Shannon had told him on a late night roof party that she wanted to marry him, after he’d painstakingly crafted the ring and planned the proposal, this wedding planner was sucking her teeth at him. She was speaking as if she and Shannon had an inside joke. As if everything he’d just said was equivalent to a child’s babbling, and now the two adults in the room were speaking. Heat flooded his face, and he didn’t process if it came from the years of pining for his own girlfriend or the snark of this one woman in front of him.
Her laugh caught him so off guard he flinched, looking over at her in surprise. In the same time it took to boil over, his anger dissipated, and he brought Shannon’s open palm up to his lips to gently kiss. Without words, without thinking, without communicating, she’d done precisely what was needed to calm him. Of course they didn’t have an inside joke that he was the punchline of. Of course what he’d said wasn’t silly. They were getting married, and it’d be beautiful and magical and as axiomatic as when they hadn’t been.
Her laugh crescendoed, the kind of sound that resonates inside of your chest for a moment longer than you heard it. Bellamy was filled with the precise warmth, relief, respite that he’d wanted to capture earlier. Nevertheless,  he pushed her side with his elbow sheepishly before letting go of her hand.
When she caught her breath, her hand affectionately caught the back of his neck and gently intertwined with his hair. “I’ve always liked the modern, stark whites. Clean lines. But maybe I wasn’t thinking modern enough, apparently. Honestly, I thought he’d go for an antique-y or rural idea. But a global warming factory? Wasn’t expecting that.”
“Rural? You thought I’d want rural?”
“You’ve pointed to every rotting barn and rusted out silo we drive past saying how beautiful it is. I figured you’d want something like that, I wasn’t too far off.”
“But that’s a completely different vibe. That’s isolation, corrosion, filth. I want the opposite of that, it’s a wedding!”
“But you still want to decorate with rusted metal! For god’s sake, you said the right way to balance the decor was to make it grimey.”
“I didn’t mean literally, obviously.”
“Oh, obviously.”
Their back and forth lulled, Shannon turning back to the planner, broken out of the private conversation they’d lapsed into by the mere presence of the overwhelmed white woman across the table.
“I could deal with that.” Shannon asserted to the woman. “In fact I quite like it. No one in the world would’ve thought of it but him, and I’ll look incredible regardless of what we do.”
The woman smiled but it didn’t quite reach her eyes, and she leaned forward, “now modern I have some experience with. We’ve got upholstered dining chairs that we can combine with-”
Shannon cut her off with a hummed, dubious sounding ‘mmmm’, side eyeing Bellamy, “I’m not sure upholstery is going to fit into our apocalypse factory.”
“Right.” The planner leaned back in her chair too quickly, putting down the pen she’d been twirling. After a pregnant pause, she said “let’s talk catering.”
