Words of affirmation

I feel that Words of Affirmation is Luke’s primary love language. He is very vocal about expressing his feelings for you, and he always wants to reassure you that you are very special to him.

It also seems that he prefers to receive love in that way. When you have misunderstandings, he is reassured after you have thoroughly explained yourself.

If he’s already that vocal in a friendship, in a romantic relationship he would even be more conscientious.

He would constantly express his love and affection for you, but it doesn’t always come in the form of “I love you”. He would praise you, tell you all the things he admires about you, and express how he feels whenever he is with you.

I think Luke is the type to be quite confident in a relationship, so he wouldn’t say “I love you” that often, because he doesn’t think it’s necessary, just like he wouldn’t need to hear it from you. Your tone of voice and what you say to him are already conveying your love for him.

If you’re the type who says “I love you” quite often, he would get used to it and pick up the habit to say it just as much – not just saying it back to you, but actually saying it randomly at other times.

I think Luke would also be the type to keep in touch through texting throughout the day. Sending you little stickers every now and then, and just telling you random things about his day. Your replies help him feel connected to you, and even if you’re not speaking of anything important, you replying to his bids for attention mean the world to him.

If you’re really busy during the day, he’d make sure to call you when you’re free. Hearing your voice relaxes him.

Quality time

I think quality time would be next, but it would tie with Acts of Service.

Whenever you and he have a free day, he’s always trying to spend it together since he feels guilty about having spent all those years apart from you.

However, he doesn’t just spend time with you out of guilt – he really needs it. He has a lot of fun with you, and sharing time and space together reinforces the connection you two have.

Be it cooking a meal – and failing in the process – together, going out on adventures, or even just watching a movie, he loves giving you his undivided attention, and he thrives on you doing the same.

Your time together has a hint of the familiarity you two shared growing up, so it’s quite easy for you to spend entire days together without feeling any need for alone time.

However, if you two are busy, he’d suggest working on your own projects together – it reminds him of how you guys used to study together during high school. He would ask for your advice with certain problems, and he’d offer to do the same for you. Being able to talk about your work with this kind of depth brings you closer, and proves that you can count on each other for everything.

Acts of Service

He is always trying to protect you and make sure you are safe, so obviously acts of service are big for him. It comes like second nature to him, and he doesn’t even realize he is trying to do something for you until you point it out to him.

If you are okay with him wanting to spoil you and always watch out for you, I think he would actually relax a little over time.

However, if someone trying to do stuff for you pisses you off – because it makes you think other people don’t believe you are capable of being independent – and you confront him about it, it would hurt him at first.

He wouldn’t understand why you don’t want him doing all those things for you – checking that any small cut is healing properly, making sure you are warm and cozy and well-fed, etc. – because for him it’s just a way to prove that he cares about you.

If you take the time to explain it to him – that you are an adult and have been perfectly capable of surviving and thriving on your own before he reappeared into your life – he would try to rationalize it, so he would totally understand what you mean, but it wouldn’t change the fact that he still wants to do things for you.

He would try to find other activities that don’t annoy you, like carrying stuff that looks heavy, taking you to and picking you up from places, and definitely, getting better at cooking special dishes for you.

Staring Contest

Pairing: Rintarou Suna x gn!reader | Haikyuu!! Rating: Teen Contents: fluff, pining, skater!suna Summary: “hey primadonna don’t you wanna stay a little longer talk to me?” -Everywhere Everything by This Century Suna’s intense stare game is strong af. That’s it. That’s the fic. Word count: 2.6k A/N: I didn’t know I liked writing this type of character so much but oh god I do. It’s high school Suna because honestly that made the setting easier but I tried to keep it as vague as possible.

I use initials to name secondary characters – keeps it more neutral, you can imagine whatever you like.

“guy/ guys” is used here as a gender-neutral term (like person/people).

You observed the room, trying to figure out what people to talk to and what people to avoid. Everyone was quite busy doing their own thing, which let you freely observe them without having to worry about being seen. Or at least, that was what you thought until you locked eyes with him.

He was looking at you, his facial features totally relaxed, no trace of anything, not even a smile. You thought of being the first to smile, but there was something in the fact he was staring so boldly at you that made you a bit uncomfortable. You avoided looking in his direction until classes ended.

The next day, you made casual conversation with the classmates that sat close to you, M and K. They invited you to hang out with them during break, and you thought everything was going great until you felt it and turned your head. He was staring at you from across the room. You didn’t even know his name yet. You looked away and sighed. It must be because I’m the new student.

“What’s got you sighing like that?” M asked.

“Oh, nothing. It’s just… one of the guys keeps staring at me and well… I don’t know if I should be worried.” Maybe they could give you a bit of information on him.

“Who?” K and M started scanning the room but no one was looking in your direction anymore.

“Nevermind.”

You moved outside during break, and some other guys joined you. You were unaware at first, so focused on trying to remember everybody’s names and make out their relationships through their conversations, but soon enough, you felt it again. He was there. That means he must be friends with them… maybe you had been misinterpreting his gaze? He could’ve been looking at either K or M. And right now he wasn’t looking at you…

“Hey, new student.”

“That’s not their name, you dickhead.”

When the guys seemed to take an interest in you, he stepped closer but still didn’t say a word. It wasn’t until your new friends kicked them away that you saw he did have his eyes on you, at least right before leaving.

“Mm… is the guy you were talking about in class Suna?”

“What?”

“The guy you said kept staring at you. Suna was totally doing that now.”

So his name is Suna.

“Don’t worry, he looks scary but that’s just his looks. Dude never works a muscle on his face.”

There was more staring during the following weeks, but now that you knew he wasn’t going to mug you or something, you tried staring back at him. The problem was, his game was strong.

The intensity he looked at you with… it was the first time someone looked at you like that. Yes, you had been stared at before, for better or for worse, but people always showed something in their expression. Anger, lust, disgust, something, but with Suna it was different. There was nothing there. You couldn’t figure him out at all.

You knew he did know your name by that time, he must have, but he still… never talked to you. You started speaking to more people, but his intense stares made it difficult to approach him without being overly conscious of yourself. He did speak to other people, just… not you.

That’s why when you were walking home alone, you didn’t even think of anything upon seeing him walking in the opposite direction.

“Hey.”

You turned to look at him in disbelief, but he was the only person close to you.

“Hi,” you replied looking at him, and you could swear you saw his lips move into a smirk, but when you looked at them he was wearing the same impassible gesture on his face.

How weird.

Acts of Service

I couldn’t decide if his primary love language would be acts of service or gift giving but I think in a relationship, it would be acts of service.

Artem is the type that has the intention and possible outcomes of his actions in mind whenever he does something (he is really careful about his “advances” with you, and tries to plan things so that you like it).

He’d be the type to try to make your wishes and dreams come true, as well as to recreate fond memories you have. He’d learn to cook your favourite dishes, take you to your favourite places, or even plan a vacation to a destination you have always dreamed of.

He’d be quite secretive about it, not telling you anything until he has perfected every tiny detail.

I feel that even if Artem tends to surprise you with grander gestures – like suddenly announcing you are going on the trip of your dreams and you don’t have to do anything because he has already planned for it – he’d also be there for you in the small daily little things. If you’re too tired from the day, he’d start taking on your chores around the house – like washing the dishes without even saying a word when it’s your turn to do it, or doing the laundry before you run out of clothes to wear.

If your love language is also acts of service, he would be quite taken aback at first, because he is so used to taking care of himself and being independent. However, I think he’d understand what you’re doing and why, and he’d thank you for making him feel so loved. That doesn’t mean he’d get used to it, though. He has spent too long only counting on himself after all. So every time you do something for him, it would still come as a surprise because he isn’t taking it for granted.

If you’re also quite independent yourself and you don’t rely on others, it could cause him some conflict, because he wouldn’t know how to show you he loves you. He’d try to argue with you about certain things being “his duty as your partner”, though.

Gifts

It’s canon he is the first one to gift you stuff (if we only count from the time the game starts, not your childhood).

He tries to express his feelings through his gifts – a bouquet – and he tends to go for the classic options. Less risk of messing it up.

He also pays a lot of attention to see what you like and buys it for you without you knowing it’s him or why.

For Artem it’s more about seeing the satisfaction in your face than it is about you acknowledging he has bought that for you.

That’s why I think in a cohabitation relationship, he would buy little things and randomly place them in the house for you to find when he’s not around.

He’d want to be around the first couple of times though, just to see how you react and if he’s doing well or not, in case you’d rather he didn’t do that.

So you’d be going to prepare a snack for yourself and suddenly this really expensive brand of cookies would be on the shelf, coincidentally, your favourites. You’d go to the living room to show him, asking about it.

“Ah,” he’d feel a bit embarrassed and not know what to say, avoiding your gaze. When you press him and he confesses he has bought them for you, there is a faint blush on his face.

As much as he loves you thanking him – and maybe giving him a hug or a kiss – he doesn’t do it for you to thank him, he genuinely just wants to see you happy.

When you do the same for him – buying tickets for a movie you think he’d like before he has time to even check the billboard – I think Artem would have a moment of realization. They really know me, and that means, you two have been together for long enough that you can do these things for him. It would make him feel your relationship is strong.

Words of Affirmation

Artem would shower you in love, compliments and affirmation. And he would be so deep and subtle about it, too. You’d be telling him about something that happened in your day – whether it be a work-related affair or a conversation with a friend – and he’d just say “your solution was so creative” or “I love the way you saw that and replied to them”.

It could come off as patronizing, but he isn’t saying it with that intent at all. If you ever feel judged and confront him about it – like telling him you’re not seeking his approval or validation – he’d explain that it’s not him looking down on you and judging you worthy of him, but rather, he feels so amazed by what a great person you are, and he feels compelled to tell you all the time.

Most of his words of affirmation would come from your behaviour or way of thinking, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t pay attention to you physically.

Familiarity

Pairing: Reki Kyan x f!reader | Sk8 the Infinity Rating: Teen C/W: fluff, established relationship, PDA Summary: You go to a restaurant with Reki’s family and his sisters monopolise all your attention. Reki wants you to himself, though. Word count: 829 A/N: I had a dream that kinda went like this so I needed to get it out of my system. This is the first time I write Reki (and for SK8!)~ I hope you enjoy this!!

“The check, please.” Reki’s mum gestures to the waiter. You look at Reki, who smiles at you from across the table. You feel like this is the first time you’ve looked at him during the whole lunch.

You’re really glad his family are accepting of you, but sometimes you wish his little sisters loved you a little less. You had hoped maybe you could sit down next to Reki and hold hands every now and then, but they had other plans for you. You’re still sandwiched between Chihiro and Nanaka, and they’ve been constantly demanding your attention.

“Onee-san, look…!” One of them tugs at your sleeve, making you look away from Reki and refocus your attention on what they want.

Soon enough, Reki’s mum pays and you’re all ready to leave.

“Girls, do you need to go to the bathroom?” She leans down to straighten their clothes a bit.

“Mmm…I’m not sure, but I’ll go if Onee-san goes!” One of them mumbles. Koyomi, the oldest one, laughs.

“Now, lunch is over. You’ve had her all to yourselves, it’s Reki’s turn now!” She takes their hands as if to show them she’s serious.

Hearing his mum saying that makes you embarrassed. It even sounds like you’re some toy they’re fighting over.

“Mum, you don’t need to say those things. Besides, she should be the one choosing, not any of us.” Reki readjusts his headband and looks at you.

“We can… go ahead and wait for all of you outside the restaurant,” you suggest. Before anyone can complain, Reki’s mum urges her daughters further inside the restaurant. You start walking towards the entrance, followed by Reki.

“We can go through that door.” You turn to him and see he’s pointing towards a smaller side entrance, just to the right of where you were headed. You doubt whether that’s actually open because everyone seems to be using the main doors. When you push, the side door opens, and you start going down the stairs.

“Wait, just-,” Reki calls from behind you, making you stop right in the middle of the stairs. Before you can turn to him to see what’s the matter, he envelops you in a big hug from behind.

“Reki?”

“Just for a bit, okay?” He wraps his arms around you a bit tighter and leans his chin on your shoulder. Grabbing his forearms, you relax into his touch for a few moments. Then, some noise startles you and you realise you’re probably visible from the restaurant.

“Reki? Your family will see us…”

“I don’t want to let go yet.” He whispers into your ear, and you feel weak in the knees. “Plus, it’ll be a while until they come out.”

“Let’s sit down at least.” He lets go of you momentarily and you both sit down on the stairs, with you between his legs. He quickly pulls you back into his chest, hugging you tightly. There, enclosed by his arms and legs, you feel warm and protected.

You start fiddling with Reki’s ripped black jeans, pulling at the frayed fabric, and caressing very gently the exposed skin. You can see the faint colour that indicates he is bruising.

“I love you so much,” he whispers and nuzzles his nose in your neck, breathing you. You hug the arms that are holding you.

“I love you too, Reki.” You feel him raising his head from its spot on your shoulder and turn to look at him. He places a gentle kiss on your lips that makes you smile. You press against him again, deepening the kiss. Your tongues find each other, and you bask in the familiarity of this intimate moment.

You hear some voices from the main entrance to the restaurant.

“Huh, where are Onee-san and Onii-chan?”

You’re glad the bushes that decorate de entrance separate and hide you from their sight.

“We should go, Reki.” You whisper, tapping his arms.

“No,” he whines. “They’ll want to bring you home and show you their rooms and toys.”

“But you can have me all to yourself afterwards?” You smile at him.

“Promise?” His voice sounds so serious it makes you giggle. “Otherwise, I’ll abduct you and lock you down in my room.”

“Your room doesn’t have a lock, though?”

two questions: why don’t you like harry and do you really think harry villanized the weed video or do you think that was the people attempting to court him (azoffs)

Whew, this is a long one folx!

Why don’t you like Harry [Styles]?

Let me preface this response by saying that I’m a pretty new “fan” if one can still call me that. I got into the One Direction fandom in the summer of last year, and much of my opinions of the boys where shaped by fan reactions. After gathering more and more information however, I realized that the fandom and I were wrong about some things, and over hyping others. 

Still, it wasn’t until this year that I actually broke out of the Harry-centric bubble to realize that the shady goings on where much worse than I originally thought. Add to this my realization that Harry’s music really doesn’t withstand the test of time, and that his persona is pretty Stagnant, and I’ve come to feel rather bamboozled.

Of course I know that the entire point of his PR team is to sway public opinion of him one way, and if I ate it up that was part of the plan. That doesn’t mean I have to like it. It also doesn’t mean I feel any less hurt about it. It also doesn’t mean that I like when other people fawn over him, as quite a lot of what I’m going to say has been public knowledge, and some of it before I was even a fan.

A. Music

 Actually getting to a big part of the problem here, his music isn’t good. Well, not long term like I said in the preface. He doesn’t really have much of a vocal range despite being a singer for more than ten years. He does not care and acts like he does, often leading to him sounding like he’s screaming instead of singing. He’s lyrics are boring and flat, and his melodies are fine, they just don’t make up for his unmemorable lyrics. I personally think that the cause is him more heavily relying on song writers to fill in more in more, but that’s mostly because I don’t want to believe that the same person who wrote Happily and Olivia also wrote At the Dining Table and Treat People With Kindness, because that would just mean he’s getting worse or putting forth less effort. 

Of course one could argue that I’m not a professional, I don’t have the necessary Jargon to correctly critique, and I’m no longer a singer so I can’t even do what he does. But to that I say fuck off. I know what sounds good! I know what I like! 

Even more than that though, If you bought a product (non food), and you could only use that product for the first two weeks you bought it, you’d say it was a shit product! You’d scream from the rooftops that no one should ever buy this product because it’s crap! Well guess what? I pre-ordered Fine Line just to listen for two weeks and never pick it up again except for golden, she’s a funky tune every couple months. 

Besides the test of time, there is still the subject of actual talent/listenability if you will. I feel there’s four main categories when I listen to music that makes it worth listening to

1.Amazing voice

2.Awesome lyrics

3.Funky/ cool ass melody/Beat

4.Catchy as hell

Now, a song doesn’t need to be all four, however the more they have the more likely I am to like the song. Also, I’ve said “main categories” because I’ve definitely had songs were I just through the beat drop was cool, or maybe the bridge was sick as hell, or maybe I just liked the pacing or the way the singer/singers stressed a note. Alternatively there is a sweet spot for me of super depressing lyrics but a melody/ that makes you want to dance. See: most of After Laughter by Paramore, Lola By Mika. But in general, those four usually make me love a song long term.

If it’s an album, it usually Just has to sound like it belongs on the same album/ tell a story. Like I really don’t like albums that sound like it’s just a playlist of songs personally. I should be able to listen to a song and go “oh yeah, that’s off --- album” or I didn’t like the album as a whole. An album is a bit like an outfit to me. It’s not going to be all tops, nor does it need to be monochromatic, but it does need to go together

For Example, I love Four as an album. I thought it was amazing. I still hate Spaces and Illusion. I hate both of their melodies, I don’t like the Illusion intro, I’m not to keen on those lyrics, and they’re definitely not catchy, I skip every time. 

So taking that logic to Harry’s music, I think HS1 works very well as an album, almost all of the songs sound like they’re supposed to be there. And I hate every song but Kiwi. The lyrics are boring/don’t make a ton of sense, the melodies definitely don’t make up for that, he doesn’t have the range, and none of them are catchy! And then you get to Kiwi and she’s got that vibe you know? She’s a pop punk bop and I cannot fucking believe that Harry has one pop punk bop among unmemorable pop rock album.

Going to Fine line, It’s not as great as an album. There are some songs that don’t really feel like they fit? Like just going through the album, cherry doesn’t have any business being there? Like the lyrics fit sure, but what is that weird intro and outro? It probably would have been fine If the song didn’t have those two, but having them there upset the pace a bit I felt. And then there was Treat People With Kindness, which was really Jarring and doesn’t feel like it belongs on the album at all? It  actually feels like it’s trying to be Kiwi - it’s loud and garish, and the lyrics are trying to be carefree, but! It just doesn’t work! TPWK sounds like Hippie music! Kiwi sounds like Brendon Urie could sing it and people would be like “good ol Panic!”. And then the album goes back down into Fine line the song, which again is Jarring because you’ve had this TPWK monstrosity right before it.

Then, looking at the overarching theme of his music, It’s whiny piss baby music He hates to take responsibility for his actions! It’s all in his lyrics! And don’t get me wrong, I love Honest lyrics, but not if the person is an asshole! LIke I fucking hate confessions by Usher specifically becasue he’s talking about how much he’s a piece of shit in the most whiny and piss baby way, making it all about him and no the people he hurt. I also really hate that one song that Zayn did with Usher and Chris Brown, because you have these awful men completely misunderstanding what it means to write a love song, and then you have Zayn at the very end all like “actually I really am in love tho…” Esp Chris browns verse! It boils down to “Hey I know I was a asshole seven billion times but I miss you tho :(“ GIRL BYE! 

Harry sounds the exact same though, Except he can’t even blame himself for his own mistakes, and just wades through self pity about how the object of his affection won’t love him even though he didn’t even do anything except it wasn’t his fault and why are you still mad it wasn’t even his fault and he was young and reckless and drunk and horny. Like??? WRITE A NEW SONG TAYLOR SWIFT 2.0! There’s only so much you can repackage the same narrative before it becomes stale no Cinderella does not count keep that shit coming. And It really jumps out in his writing, even through 1d, although I will say there were some catchy beats, and awesome lines to keep him afloat back then. Although wtf was Walking in the Wind??? Choke!

Then there are the melodies I’m talking post wondee here which often give this 70’s pop rock vibe. Which fine I guess, it’s his brand, but that doesn’t make it interesting. Or new. Or fresh. Or an interesting take. 

Now I completely understand relying on nostalgia to boost people’s opinion, but you could at leas have the decency to actually have good music. For Example, Miss you by Louis Tomlinson has a very distinctive pop rock feel, but it’s also an amazing song. Great lyrics, amazing voice, catchy liddle diddy that happens to be reminiscent of that 2005- 2010 punk pop/emo pop feel. Sour diesel has that like,,,basey 90s pop feel, and it fucking works with the lyrics, and of course his voice is beautiful. When Walls dropped and Lou put out that playlist of songs that were an inspiration, you can hear the influences when you listen to the album, but they’re also really good songs in their own right, with amazing lyrics, and Louis’ distinctive voice. Comparing that to Harry, it seems like he’s mostly relying on people’s nostalgia rather than actually good music.

Okay so this last point I’m making on music is a little petty but it’s been like a week and I’m still pissed about it so I’m saying it now. Someone said that Harry Styles is the best pop rock artist right now???? Just admit that you don’t listen to pop rock tf. Louis Tomlinson is right there. Brendon Urie is right there. Mika is right there. Haley Williams is right there. Janell Monae is right there. I don’t listen to a lot of pop rock lol but i feel my point has been made

B. Public Persona

He get’s so much clout! SO MUCH CLOUT! For doing the bare minimum (this is not specifically about the fandom, that’s for later)! People will write all these glowing reviews of him for him??? Being polite??? Like okay and? Just because a person is polite doesn’t mean they’re fucking Jesus??? There’s a million and one stories so i’m not fucking looking them up but there’s the pizza story and the fish story and the plane story and the snl story and the Stormzy story and the WS story on and on and on! Stop giving this man brownie points for basic human decency. “I didn’t expect him to be like that!” okay is that because of their perception of what a rock star is supposed to be like? Because in that case we need to start holding people accountable for being assholes. Or is it because he seems like an asshole. Cause valid.

I also don’t like him leaning so heavily on the queer image thing. Like! If that’s how he likes to express himself, Fine, But so much of it is just...so manufactured! And I Know I’ve heard people say oh well he wore the one rainbow on his lapel that one time or he wore the shirt or he wore the Keith Harring.

1. That Rainbow pin is sus as hell I don’t care what ya’ll say It absolutely screams set up, if he wanted to not be seen he would have not been seen 

2. That goes for literally every other time. I can’t believe it’s not a set up to push a queer image. (that he profits from!)

3. If he actually did his homework on Keith Harring he’d know that the man was a predator, and he wouldn’t have worn those shirts. It seems so performative! To add to that, does he know now? If so, why isn’t he using his platform to correct his mistake? Why didn’t he come out and let people know not to buy Harring’s stuff??? He knows the pull he has! He absolutely could have been like “I’ve made a mistake, if you are looking for queer artists to support, here’s some” But he fucking doesn’t

4. To add on to that last part, It is actually sus that he gets to profit off of this queer image, and yet the only queer voices that he’s propping up are white gays. And then not even directly? Not a “queer artists, esp queer artists of color are important and need their voices boosted because they are the back bone of society” but this wink nod type of deal, where again, he mainly boosts white gays.like??? One queer black woman that doesn’t work for the Azoffs, and then a bunch of white gays. Like?? That’s not racist to anyone else???????Just me? okay.

Now from a professional point of view, it’s even worse. I’m not saying that artists can’t be campy or blurr gender lines, or imply that they ‘re queer subtly. But I think it’s fucking disrespectful to play both ends. Like, he profits off of using the queer image, all while Dancing around the subject, but then on the back end he never says that Homophobes/Transphobes aren’t allowed in his fandom. He gives this empty ass tpwk and then washes his hands of it. 

Don’t get me wrong, I am always upset when people who have lots of queerphobes in their fandom bullying and harassing the actual queer people never say anything to let queerphobes know they’re unwelcome (clearly money is better than morals) but for me it’s an extra kick to the gut for it to literally profit Harry to seem queer. Look at that time that  gay company sold out shirts in less than an hour,because harry was wearing it and tell me people aren’t throwing money at him because they feel he’s queer. 

C. Fashion

This one is a really rough one for me because this is partially what drew me into Harry in the first place. But he’s really not all that in terms of fashion. He’s expensive certainly, but sometimes, the things that are more expensive are worse. Even When He’s not looking like a grandparent out on the town, his style is very dated, and yet he gets paraded around like he’s the freshest new thing?? Like who is his team paying of for him to get that many articles about how he’s fashion’s biggest star. And the thing is, his style is even dated for the mainstream. There’s already a post about how he copies prominent pop/pop rock stars of the 70s, which means that his style is 50 years old for the mainstream. Now don’t get me wrong, I think it’s totally fine if you’re addicted to seventies wear. I don’t think he should be heralded as this huge fashion star if his wardrobe is this dated

Even more than that. Gucci???? The Gucci with a history of Racism?? The Gucci with the child labor??? The Gucci with the 14 hour days Gucci??? Ugly ass Gucci????? Soulja Boy don’t even fuck with Gucci no more and he fuck with Gucci since like 2007. (although that was because of the racism, not cause it’s ugly)

I think that bothers me the most though. Like it’s not enough to exploit people, you also have to be tacky ugly and expensive???? For what??? @Gucci cease to exist please.

If Harry wants to be tacky ugly and expensive, that’s of course his rights to do so! But don’t act like he’s at the very pinnacle of fashion every time he does. 

I’m actually always very conflicted about that. I personally prefer a style that’s very loud and campy and avant garde but like,,,,that ain’t it. Maybe it’s something you got it or ya don’t??? Like for example Billy Porter could wear a trashbag and make it work. The expensive sweaters and the slacks? The suits? Not a good look on one Harry Styles. Maybe it’s because they’re expensive sweaters and slacks and expensive suits. What are you, Ted from accounting??? Grow up.

D. Treat People With Kindness

Ugh this is the thing that pisses me off like the second to most. This phrase is so fucking empty. You could not have made up a more corporate mandated phrase if you fucking tried. It stands for nothing! Just like him!

Let’s break it down. “Treat people with kindness” is, at face value, a call to action. It’s asking you to do something. But it doesn’t actually tell you what to do!! So it’s pretty inoffensive! You don’t actually have to change your behavior in anyway for two main reasons:

1. What the hell is Kindness??? This phrase never actually says what it is??? It’s just this short little punchy thing that assumes you know what kindness is! What if you didn’t actually know? What if you have differing ideals of what is considered kindness? I mean to my mother, Misgendering me is kindness, but I don’t think that’s kindness. To my father, not letting his children have autonomy is kindness, but I don’t find that kind. And yet they could both use that phrase and feel confident that they go around treating people with kindness. After all they cooked dinner didn’t they? They smiled at Janice from public relations didn’t they? That’s kindness right?

2. It also assumes you know what “people” are. Queer people are people. Queerphobes don’t consider queer people, people. Racists aren’t going to consider some people, people. So they can continue their harassment and dehumanization of them and still be treating people with kindness, because they never harmed actual people (to them)

E. Harry bots

Bitch?? Corporate spies?? Tf ??? That’s not weird to ya’ll ?? I think the thing that shocked me more than someone from Colombia records admitting that he manufactures the hype around people signed to Colombia, is the fact that the Fandom been knew!!!! Ya’ll been knew and ya’ll wasn’t gon tell me???????? I just found out last week wtf????????

Another thing I don’t like about them Harry bots, is it’s one thing to hype up Harry, but why tf do they need to shit on the other boys??? Is it because they’re more talented, good looking, and charming??? How about you get good!!!! I esp hate that it’s usually Louis. What is Corporate’s obsession with putting Louis down like? What a bunch of fucking weirdos?? It’s not enough to be a Harry fan and live up his ass, I gotta hate Louis too?? You lost yo damn mind. If you reading this and you a spy? Die.

F. Capitalism

Honestly that should be the end of it but here the fuck we go I guess. Now I get that there is going to be some capitalism involved when you get music, especially mainstream music, there are tones of articles out there with people who used to be in the industry telling you about how fucking awful it is, all in the pursuit of money. (Which isn’t fucking real by the way! We made it up! People out here getting traumatized! Belittled! Bullied! Married off! So some corporation can make all the money! The Imaginary Credits! That we made up! I hate it here!) 

But it’s another fucking thing to participate in a capitalist system? He invested into that one sleep app, even going to do one of the voice sessions (So you could have Harry Styles themed sleep paralysis) and you pay for that! He makes money off that! It’s not enough that you buy his mediocre music or his ugly ass merch, you also have to give him money through the sleep paralysis app. 

Then there was that Google Camp for Rich People Only! I don’t even want to fucking hear that it was on Climate Change oh wow all the rich people took helicopters and Yachts to a resort with manicured lawns??? To talk about how they treat the environment? That’s not at all Counter intuitive! Not at all for show! Fucking disgusting.

Oh and the Covid Shirt! Really bitch??? You need to Profit off a deadly pandemic? Are you profiting off of AIDS next you fucking bastard. And he can of course get a tax write of for his “ charitable donation” fuck off.

G. Racism

This! This is the thing that gets me the most! YA’LL CAN EXCUSE RACISM???

No, I’m not talking about the Native American Headdress thing, that was plenty despicable on it’s own, No I’m talking about the on going racism. The whole, using black people for clout and then dropping them and never returning the favor when they sing his praises thing. Specifically I’m thinking of Sis the activist, Stormzy, and Lizzo. 

The Lizzo thing pisses me off the most actually. I think it’s very fucking convenient that Harry started taking interest in Lizzo after there was uproar from black fans noting his hypocrisy of performing for Pepsi (Notoriously racist) and Having BLM sticker on his guitar. So he shows up at one of her concerts dressed like a senior citizen that got lost on the way to the retirement home bathroom. She looked fucking amazing and he couldn’t put forth the effort to at least not look senile. Then there was the covering of her songs, and then there was the cuddling up with her at the awards show. Funny how I haven’t seen any interaction after the fact! And Of course everyone forgot about the Pepsi concert! Fuck all the way off!!

Also! Are we just never going to talk about the fact that he didn’t comment on the blm protests earlier this year until his team could gauge whether or not it would be profitable to do so by DATA MINING HIS FAN BASE???? And then when he actually did he got the most praise for it, truly fucking hate it here. Also when he marched with those protesters he made sure we knew it was him. There were posts flouting around everywhere on how to best cover up to make yourself completely unrecognizable should you wind up on camera or fucking worse, get attacked by the police. Funny how Close Sprouse could follow the advice and not Harry? Also supper funny how he got the hell out of dodge before things got super bad and I have not heard anything on the matter since. Guess what Harry??? We’re still out here fighting for the rights to exist! Still wanna have a photo op while our own government tries to squash us with force????? This is like that Jenner Pepsi ad but with sunglasses and a pandemic.

H. Fandom

I think I would hate him less if I didn’t have to hear about him every hour of everyday. Stop Hyping this man so much. Even after unfollowing and blocking a bunch of Harries and Larries he’s all across my dash. And twitter. And insta. KURTIS CONNER FUCKING LIKES HIM I JUST WANTED CRACK CONTENT AND NOW LOOK. 

I. Conclusion.

After writing all this I think the running theme is that Harry Styles isn’t even a person, he’s a brand. I do not like or trust brands! And I definitely don’t like being advertised to! Just like It’s fake as fuck when Absolut is all about queer rights, it’s fake as fuck when Harry does it too. Just like I know Target doesn’t actually care about Black lives, I know Harry doesn’t either. People are always like “oh he’s so nice!” no! He’s polite! There’s a difference. Zayn Is a truly kind person. Liam is a truly kind person. Louis is a truly kind person. It shines though so brightly all the time, and yet people are really out here worshiping the Brand Harry Styles. 

Do I think It was Harry or The Azoffs throwing Zouis under the bus. 

Truly doesn’t matter! Whichever one did it, Harry was totally fine with it! Which tells me that he doesn’t give a shit about anyone but himself. He’ll go along with anything as long as it gets him to the top, and that’s fucked up on one million and one levels

WS Chapter 45- Runaways

Ecto has been to places she’s never seen before since she met Red and Avon. Her whole life was spent in the massive desert she called home. She knew other biomes existed from the stories held within dusty old tomes and even dustier old traders. But she never felt the need to leave the comfort, the safety of the desert. It had everything she knew, everything she needed. When everyone and everything else abandoned her, the resilient sand and cactus stayed. She didn’t want to go on this adventure at first.

But with everything she’s seen, everything she’s experienced, she couldn’t think of anything better than the journey they’ve taken. Ecto has seen places she could never imagine, colors she could never dream of. Forests with trees so tall they scrape the sky, or so thick they block out the sun. There was the mesa, rusty sand and the first time Ecto had been able to collect cactus in what felt like forever. To feel the tough skin and sharp spines, the crunch and pop as she bit into one. Ecto also saw an ocean for the first time. She still can’t wrap her mind around so much water, just sitting there. Undrinkable. And that Red grew up in all of that. She saw snow fall, both beautiful and deadly. Soft and Sharp. 

Since they left Red’s home, she’s seen even more. Thin, spindly bamboo growing from the edges of a thick, vibrant forest. Similar to what they saw in the hermit world. Stony shores and mountains that the wanderers had to clamber and climb through. Well, most of them- Avon would simply fly over and wait for them. Birch forests with trees who haunted white trunks in the shadows of night.

And each night, Ecto can only think of the hellspawns. Questions fill her mind, concerns fill her stomach. Why do they attack the wanderers? What have they done to cause all this? What are they planning? How did they even get it to snow in a desert? Is her desert still covered in snow? Will it ever be the same again? She’s concerned for her home, for her cacti. She’s concerned that the hellspawns are only growing stronger with each minute they continue to run. Continue to avoid the problem. Fleeing with their heads bowed and tails tucked. 

The campfire blazes bright, casting tall, menacing shadows across the dark, thick oak trees. Shadows lengthen across Avon’s stormy face, darkening her sharp purple eyes as she leans into the warmth. She hardly talks anymore, and anything she does say is short and to the point. She only responds when necessary. Red told Ecto that she acted this way when they first met. Cold, dark, silent. Always within her own mind, separate from reality. Separate from the other wanderers. 

Red stands up from her seat next to Ecto, footsteps shuffling across the dead detritus. She sits down next to Avon, and scoots into Avon’s wingspan. Her voice is a cautious whisper, rising slowly from her lips. “Avon? When we get the egg back do you think they’d like it if I read them stories? Did Jeane like stories?” 

Avon’s eyes squeeze shut, a grimace morphing the shadows on her face to look demonic. But both Red and Ecto know never to call Avon the m-word. Avon swallows down her emotions. “Jeane loved stories.” 

Red grins, poking at the campfire with a stick. Watching the flames dance and embers flare into the sky. “When we get the egg, I’m going to tell it a story every night.” 

“How do you know we’re getting it back?” Avon’s voice cracks at the question. She wants to believe that they’ll get Jeane’s baby back, she really does. But false hope will get them nowhere. Avon immediately wishes she could take her words back when she sees Red’s face. It looks like she just slapped him, ran her trident through his heart. 

“The longer we wait, the less likely we’ll be able to get it back” Ecto hisses, looking across the fire at Red and Avon. It was always them two, with Ecto tacked on. They started this journey together, and they always seemed to side with each other. Even when Ecto’s ideas were employed, they were always strange to them. They probably wouldn’t notice if Ecto disappeared. They’d be happy to have a weirdo gone. 

Red’s lip quivers, not wanting to think of the dragon egg being destroyed. An egg a thousand years waiting, a thousand years of love and care and devotion by it’s late mother. To think that it could be killed, all that work dashed away. And a life lost. Red has seen too much death these past few weeks. He’s not sure if he could handle any more. 

“Rushing into the nether will only get us killed as well as kill the egg. They’re baiting us.” Avon’s wings don’t rise like they normally do, trying to make herself bigger. They tuck closer to her body, becoming defensive. Pulling Avon’s flat hair taught, the constant running of her fingers through the curls taming the gilded mane. Red’s cheeks grow rosy, holding back the whimper rising in her throat. She doesn’t want to die. 

“We’re only pushing off the inevitable. For all we know, that egg is already crushed and they’re just sharpening their blades to come for us next! We’re strong enough to take those hellspawns on, if we work together!” Ecto stands to her feet, her brown hood falling free of her head, her chocolate hair curling free from her. Pointing out like spines of a cactus. The orange firelight and her orange scarves burn bright together, fabric dancing with the flame in her eyes. A weak gasp and a few wet streaks escape from Red. Both of these options are horrible, the dangers and demises they pose. 

Avon rises, pulling her trident free from its sheath between her wings. She’s feared exactly what Ecto says, the same thoughts plaguing her head every night. Chasing away sleep. But to hear it spoken aloud…

Ecto’s blade rises, but less for a fight and more for defense. She’s tired of always having to prove herself, always being the scapegoat to other people. The problem, the issue at hand. She doesn’t want to fight Avon, she doesn’t want to hurt her friend. But at this point, she just wants to prove she’s right. They’re ready to take on the nether. That with their fighting skills, they could take on anything. 

Red squeaks, falling off her perch on the log as Avon lunges, and the two clash once more. It’s been a long time since she’s seen such anger, such fever in her friends’ eyes. They’ve dueled, practicing against one another. Training to be stronger. And they’ve fought side by side, tooth and nail to keep each other alive. But as blood is drawn, sizzling against the burning wood, Red knows one thing. 

All their progress has been lost. Weeks and months of bonding, of working together and learning to understand one another is falling apart. They’re being torn at the seams, becoming people they’ve never been before. Avon’s become irrational, Ecto has become strategic, and Red? 

Red has become angry. He watches blood fall from a cut on Avon’s cheek, a slash on Ecto’s arm. Ecto tackles Avon to the ground, grabbing at her cloak and using it for leverage. Avon opens her wings, knocking herself free of Ecto. The two clash, wounding each other more and more. They’re a perfect match in battle, all the time training. They know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Ecto won’t back down from a fight. Avon won’t quit until she’s unconscious or dead. Red’s friends won’t stop until they’ve proven themselves. 

Prove themselves with what? 

Ecto’s teeth and blade grind, metal against metal and tooth against tooth. It’s a pushing match between the two, focused on outmatching the other. So when Red’s voice shouts over the scraping blades, it surprises both of them. “Would you two both just fucking stop for once? Don’t you two idiots see this is what they want? They’re tearing us apart, they’re winning! And you two are letting them! Those stupid hellspawns don’t have to do a thing, because you’ll rip each other apart for them!” 

Ecto and Avon look away from their fight, to Red. Tears fall across a face marred by anger, by frustration boiling over. Red’s patience has worn thin, and is ripping apart before their very eyes. “We have been through so much together, we have dealt with so much bullshit. We have gone through so much and you two are letting those assholes tear us apart!” 

They both retreat their weapons. Red wipes the rivers of pain from her cheeks, a strangled cry popping all her resolve. She takes one, two, three steps back, before turning. Disappearing into the night, into the thick forest. 

You finally did it. Good job, Ecto, you finally got them to run from you. Ecto takes her own step back, watching Avon grow distant both physically and emotionally. She wipes the blood off her face. Ecto feels an ache in her chest, like being shot in the heart by a poison arrow. People yelled at Ecto before, but none of them hurt like Red’s shouts just did. She tested the patience of his tolerance, and now suffers the consequences. 

Ecto hears Avon’s wings open, a few flaps before hovering in the sky just above the thick canopy. Alone again. Abandoned, cast out. Just like always, the people she called friends have left. Things never change, as sure as the setting sun. 

She nearly jumps out of her skin when Avon returns to the ground. Actually speaks to her. “I think I saw Red. We need to find him.” 

At least he can help them before they leave. “Where’d he go?” 

Avon points her trident to the north, thrusting it deep into the dark oak shadows. “Towards a mansion. Deep in the woods.”

Pairing: Winteriron (Bucky x Tony)

Rating: Mature (Mild!)

Request: it takes place during CA:TWS. instead of hiding out with Sam, they go to Tony. and of course, tws comes for Steve, but With Tony's help, they manage to capture him. and then they work on rehabilitating him...  and eventually Bucky gets his memories back, but he's definitely more WS than Bucky so they have to adjust to that. Steeb is mopey, Natasha is wary, and the only that makes him feel like he's his own person is Tony. my idea also branches off into pet play with Tony as the pet to give Bucky a sense of control, but that's not really necessary to the first part lol

Pain. Confusion. Anger. 

They were emotions that the Winter Soldier felt on a day to day basis. He didn't exactly understand why he felt them because he had no reason to feel them. He was an agent of Hydra, Lord knows how many assassinations he had been credited with doing over the past years. He sure didn’t know, but he had been given a new mission. ‘Destroy Captain America. Kill everyone who gets in your way.’ His mission rung in his head, almost taunting him as he sat in the empty tower with Tony at his side.

He had gone to carry out his mission to destroy Captain America, who he had learned had taken refuge with Anthony Stark at Stark Tower. He went there, of course, taking all of the proper precautions to not be detected by the security and it was all going well until something went wrong. He still wasn’t sure what exactly it was, but something went wrong. Maybe it was Captain America refusing to attack him? Claiming that they were friends and that he was Bucky, not the Winter Soldier. It had to be that. It had thrown him off. He had failed his mission. He assumed that someone had knocked him out since he woke up in a cell strapped to a chair.

That had been months ago and he still couldn’t tell someone what had fully happened that night. The Avengers were working hard along with S.H.I.E.L.D to rehabilitate him and it was working. He had learned that his name was James Buchanan ”Bucky” Barnes and with a quick trip to the Smithsonian Museum, he learned about his past. Steve also helped him fill in the blanks, joke around with him and help him remember things. Steve looked so happy when he corrected Steve on a particular story he was telling. “No, you’re the one who tripped over your feet while dancing with that girl. You were too drunk to stand, Stevie. I had to carry you home!” What came after was a series of chuckles and a grinning Steve. That didn’t last for too long.

If three things were clear about Bucky, it was that he was far calmer than he had been before but still unstable. The next thing being the most important, Bucky was more Winter Soldier than Bucky Barnes. That was very clear. No matter how much Steve tried, Bucky was still more Winter Soldier. He had gotten most of his memories back and most of the time he was calm, but the would have episodes, moments even when it was truly evident that the Soldier was ingrained in him so deeply that he would never leave. Bucky had told Steve that himself.

Steve become quite mopey after that, residing in Natasha who was already wary of Bucky. It only made that worse. Bucky felt like everything was falling apart, he no longer had the Brooklyn accent that made all of the ladies swoon back in the day. Instead, there was an easily understandable, yet slightly thick Russian accent in its place. He could tell that Steve wasn’t used to it. 

There was only one person who actually made him feel like he wasn’t a monster and believe it or not that was Tony Stark. They had formed an interestingly close bond over the months of Bucky residing in Stark Tower. Tony resented Bucky’s presence there, but slowly over time it transitioned. Tony became Bucky’s escape, he became his control. He needed control, it was something that he had to constantly battle for himself. It wasn’t until five months after Bucky being there after they had shared quite a passionate kiss in the empty lab did Tony suggest the idea.

“Buck, what do you think about some pet play?” Tony knew that Bucky liked being in control since he felt like it was something he had lacked. Bucky didn’t know what it was. Once Tony showed and explained what it was Bucky was into it. 

They only really did it whenever they knew for a fact that they were alone. Tony would sit naked on the floor in front of wherever Bucky was sitting with a butt plug that had a tail attached to it. Bucky had a leash that he would tug whenever he would want Tony to be somewhere, to be a good little pup. Whenever Tony was a bad boy there were punishments and when Tony was a good boy there were rewards.

It was a particular and lonely afternoon, the Avengers were doing whatever they were doing. Tony stayed behind and so did Bucky to do some ‘work’ on Bucky’s memories. They were in the living room, Tony on the floor with the same get up. He was whimpering, nudging at his master’s leg to get off. You see, Bucky had been whispering quite dirty things to Tony all day. His accent didn’t help, as it only made Tony feel even hotter. 

Bucky adverted his eyes from the TV down to Tony with a smirk. “Нет.” He gave a tug to the leash, causing Tony to come closer. “Look at you.. such a mess.” He growled, tugging at the leash again. “You were quite a bad boy today, so you’ll just have to be patient.” He switched the vibrations from the butt plug to a higher level, stimulating Tony even more.

“Maybe if you’re a good boy I’ll let you cum.” He smirked, the vibrations causing a wave of whimpers and moans from Tony.

Bucky liked being in control.

Back-Tracking: Colossal Cave Adventure II & Mystery Mansion

Today I’m looking at two text adventures that I played through but didn’t comprehensively beat.  (Not that I really beat either of them, because I relied on a walk-through for both.)  This back-tracking project is probably getting a little self-indulgent at this point. Do I really need to be blogging about my attempts to go back through a game trying to get all the points?  Is that something that people want to read about?  Probably not, but it’s my blog.  And if I’m stupid enough to spend my time going back to a game just to get a winning screenshot that I’m more satisfied with, then you can damn well bet that I’m going to post about it.  If it’s any consolation, this post should be a short one.

COLOSSAL CAVE ADVENTURE II (1978)

I originally played Colossal Cave Adventure II back in 2016.  I recall it as something of a harrowing experience (well, video game harrowing, which is a completely different thing than real life harrowing).  It took me quite a bit of planning to put together a winning run, and even once my plan was in place the game’s random elements would thwart my efforts.  I eventually got through it, but for reasons that I’m still unsure about I only ended up with 436 points out of the full 440.  At the time, I was relaxed enough to let that go and move on to the next game.  I don’t know what happened to that sweet, innocent young man, because ever since I started getting more serious about the blog those 4 points have been gnawing at me.  I had to go back and at least try to get them.

Going back to this game in such close proximity to playing Don Woods’ 430 point version was interesting.  Both games took completely different approaches to expanding on the original.  Woods’ approach was to fill things in at the edges, keeping the map exactly the same but adding some small new areas that were difficult to find, and an extra challenge in the form of a time limit.  Jack Pike and Peter Luckett took a different tack, adding on loads of new areas and just making the game much bigger overall.  New mazes, new puzzles, lots of new treasures.  Both of them are difficult in different ways.

I was expecting this revisit to Colossal Cave Adventure II to seriously vex me, but thankfully my old notes were very thorough.  I hadn’t quite mapped things out step by step (as I tried to do with Adventure 430), but I did have a guide telling me what order to get the treasures in, and reminding me to take regular drinks (because this game added an irritating thirst mechanic).  I was able to follow my instructions, and the random elements were kind to me, so it only took me a couple of tries to get the four points that had eluded me.

Catharsis!

I’m going to ignore that bit about achieving the next higher rating, and call this game done forever.

MYSTERY MANSION

I only played this game last year, so it was still fairly fresh in my memory.  I did finish it, but I was well down on the 999 points required for a total win.  This game doesn’t just require the gathering of treasure, but to get the full amount of points you need to visit pretty much every location, defeat a vampire and a werewolf, solve a murder mystery, and type score whenever you hear a funny noise. Beating this one is a pretty involved process.

I probably didn’t give this game enough credit the first time around for its replayability.  With most adventure games, once you’ve solved all of the puzzles and beaten a game there’s not really much point in going back to it (until years down the track, maybe, when you’ve forgotten everything).  Mystery Mansion includes a bunch of random elements that make replaying the game, and especially playing for points, a challenge.  They’re not the bad kind of random, either, like Colossal Cave Adventure‘s murderous dwarves, but more of a shuffling of elements.  Most notably, the murder to be solved has a different culprit, location, and murder weapon in every game.  (Although, now that I think of it this game does have a bad random element in the form of the Mole Maze, and its ever-shifting pathways. Thankfully you can save just before it and keep trying until you get it right.)

I discovered a few new things that made it easier to solve the murder and collect all of the necessary elements:

The warrior who roams around outside carries a parrot.  If you’re carrying the parrot, he’ll tell you the location of any object in the game.

Similarly, the glass orb in the games room can be used to locate any person, which is handy for finding the murderer and the werewolf.

There’s also the scroll in the library, which crumbles to dust when you try to open it.  The gardener once told me that it could be opened with a magic word, but I never did figure out what to do here.  Reading a walkthrough informed me that I needed to use the passwords from the garden, which are written on the bottom of two bridges.  There are two passwords, but you actually need to say four words: in addition to saying the words forwards you also need to flip them.  This doesn’t just mean saying them in reverse, you also need to turn them upside down: a password like HOMIW becomes MIWOH, as you flip the Ms and Ws.  It’s pretty tricky to get right, but when you do the scroll opens and tells you everything you need to know about solving the murder.

I mentioned the werewolf above, and I never did find and kill it in my initial play-through.  I only ever met it once, when I fell through a hole to the basement and got killed by it in the dark.  This time I discovered that one of the characters who roams the house will turn into a werewolf after the sun sets, and if you encounter the werewolf it rips you to shreds.  There’s a gun that you can find, and a silver bullet, so the solution to killing the wolf is fairly obvious.  The gun has six regular bullets loaded, though, so you need to find something to shoot to empty it before you can use the silver bullet. I found that unloading a bunch of bullets into the elf was pretty satisfying.

Beating this game involved plotting out a path where I visited every location in the game, solved the mystery, killed the vampire, killed the werewolf, called a taxi, and amassed as much treasure as possible at the end of the game.  All the while, I had to pay attention and remember to type SCORE whenever I heard a wolf howl or a woman scream, or I’d lose 2 points each time I forgot.  Thankfully the DOS port has some PC speaker sound effects that made remembering quite a bit easier. I had those turned off when I first played, because they’re very annoying, but they’re also useful.

Putting all of this together took me a long, long time.  I think I played this game for about 12 hours straight trying to get this right, and I kept falling short of my goal.  I would score around 950 to 960 points, and I just couldn’t figure out what I was missing.  As it turned out, there was one location I hadn’t gone to: the bottom of a well in the garden.  The garden has three wells, and two of them are impossible to get out of once you climb down.  Going to the bottom of the other one is worth 20 points though, which was a big help in getting me to my goal.

I also figured out that if I left some treasures at the main gate, I could pick them up right at the end, while I’m waiting for the taxi, to score some extra points.  Normally you have to keep the lantern and the compass in your possession, but at the end you don’t need to move around anymore, so there’s no need.  The only worry with this is that an NPC like the hunter, the woodsman or the warrior will pick them up, but I solved that by murdering all three.

With all of that put together, I was finally able to make a perfect run at this game and score the maximum points.

Goodbye Mystery Mansion. Goodbye forever.

I got the above screen at something like 8 am, after pulling an all-nighter.  That win was a massive relief, let me tell you.

NEXT: I’ve been playing Rogue, and haven’t had any success so far (surprise, surprise).  I figure I’ll be at that one for a while.  As far as games I want to return to, there are still a few.  I just got done with the original TRS-80 version of Temple of Apshai, which I’ll have a post on shortly.  I want to revisit Richard Garriot’s DND1 and play it a bit more in the version that more accurately represents its teletype origins.  There was one monster icon on the start screen of Swords & Sorcery that I never encountered, so I’d like to keep plugging away at that to see if I can get to it.  I’d like to keep playing MUD1 and earn enough points to become a wizard. There’s even a perverse part of me that wants to tackle the nigh-impossible task of mapping the entirety of Oubliette, which is definitely balanced for multiplayer and not something I could realistically achieve.  All of those, should keep me busy for a while, I’d say.  I’ll try not to make it to the detriment of progressing on my regular chronology.

This is the second game in a row I think Klopp has switched formation to the 4-2-2-2, and boy is it working. Milner comes in at right back which I feel like this sub has been calling for for about 3 years now, we see Keita and Fabinho on the pitch together, and Salah and Firmino up top. I really felt that this worked well. It was quite easy to switch over to the normal 4-3-3 when necessary with Firmino sliding over to LW, but mostly kept him up front where he's most useful.

Don't really have anything to say about this, just thought it was odd. First one I could understand because maybe he knew he was offside, but give us a smile when you put away the hat trick Mo lad.

If he’s already that vocal in a friendship, in a romantic relationship he would even be more conscientious.

He would constantly express his love and affection for you, but it doesn’t always come in the form of “I love you”. He would praise you, tell you all the things he admires about you, and express how he feels whenever he is with you.

I think Luke is the type to be quite confident in a relationship, so he wouldn’t say “I love you” that often, because he doesn’t think it’s necessary, just like he wouldn’t need to hear it from you. Your tone of voice and what you say to him are already conveying your love for him.

If you’re the type who says “I love you” quite often, he would get used to it and pick up the habit to say it just as much – not just saying it back to you, but actually saying it randomly at other times.

I think Luke would also be the type to keep in touch through texting throughout the day. Sending you little stickers every now and then, and just telling you random things about his day. He wouldn’t understand why you don’t want him doing all those things for you – checking that any small cut is healing properly, making sure you are warm and cozy and well-fed, etc. – because for him it’s just a way to prove that he cares about you.

If you take the time to explain it to him – that you are an adult and have been perfectly capable of surviving and thriving on your own before he reappeared into your life – he would try to rationalize it, so he would totally understand what you mean, but it wouldn’t change the fact that he still wants to do things for you.

He would try to find other activities that don’t annoy you, like carrying stuff that looks heavy, taking you to and picking you up from places, and definitely, getting better at cooking special dishes for you.

When it comes to receiving love, I think he would probably feel the same discomfort you may feel if you do acts of service for him. He would think he is inconveniencing you, that you have had to go out of your way for him, so he wouldn’t realise it is you showing him love, because he is too busy feeling bad about making you do all those things.

If one of your main languages is acts of service, I think with just a bit of insistence, he’d end up realizing you’re doing those things because you want to. It would probably make him want to dote on you even more.

If it is not one of your main languages, Luke wouldn’t really notice either, because he isn’t really expecting it or needing it from you.

Gifts

I feel like gift-giving would be more practical in Luke’s case. He would gift you things that are basically helping him take care of you. It can come in any form, from healthy take out, to booking a massage for you.

I think Luke is fine with receiving gifts, but it can also make him slightly uncomfortable. He will assess how much you’re giving him and whether or not he’s giving you just as much.

I bet at some point it felt like both of you were competing to see who could gift more things to the other lol.

But I believe Luke loves your gifts because they are material proof of your affection. I think this man could receive only one gift from you in like three years and he would be totally fine, he wouldn’t feel any less loved by you.

If you do gift him things regularly, he would make sure to keep every single thing, no matter how silly and small. He would find ways to keep them both at his place and the shop, so that he can look at them whenever he is feeling lonely and be reminded of you and the love both of you share.

I also think he’d prefer gifts that he can wear – like the key he keeps close to his heart, or the globes you gifted him for his 25th birthday.

And hear me out, I feel that couple sets would be a thing. I can totally see him wanting to wear matching accessories or even less obvious things, like outfits that are colour coordinated but not too outstanding. It would be something only you two notice but that mimics the bond you two have.

Touch

I was super sure touch isn’t something Luke craves – since his feelings for you stayed strong for 8 years without seeing you – BUT he did hug you after he found out you had joined the NXX and you guys fought over it.

So I think touch is something he doesn’t necessarily need, but he does express his love through touch and it reassures him.

The good thing is it means you two are good to go in a long-distance relationship as well, which you may end up in due to Luke’s job.

Having known each other for so long, touching each other wouldn’t be unnatural, but the romantic aspect to it would still make him a bit nervous.

If your primary love language is touch, he would be a bit surprised at first about how touchy you are, but he would be happy about it, and soon enough he would be the one initiating physical contact.

He’d find ways to casually touch you out in public – like brushing your hair out of your face, readjusting something on your clothes or flicking away something, and obviously, holding hands would be a must. In private, I think Luke would be really cuddly, lightly pecking your cheeks and your connected hands, and he’d want to be close to you at all times.

Its hard to believe I’ve almost been knitting for a year.  I started out 2016  by taking a knitting class in January with my oldest daughter and I started my first actual project on February 20th, 2016.  I’ve definitely learned a lot since starting my first project.  I can now actually read my stitches which is a huge help!!.  I can now figure out where I was without having to count rows or stitches.  Yay!!  Those two things were so tedious when I first started and I’m so very glad I don’t have to do that every time I pick up my project like I did in the beginning. I also can cast on without having to watch a YouTube Video to jog my memory and I can do several different types of stitches although I still sometimes have to check out the YouTube on some of those.  Thank goodness for YouTube!!  I can also read patterns and have learned quite a bit of the lingo,  my stash is growing along with my needle inventory, and I no longer feel uncertain about trying something new.

So here is my thought.  Since everyone is doing their last year in review I was thinking maybe I would do a little different take on it.  Instead of just talking about what I accomplished, I’m going to list out the projects I took on, what I learned from the project, and whether or not I finished it and my thoughts on the pattern.  I hope this will not only be informative for anyone who is just starting out, but will also give some insight to those of you looking for different patterns to try.

Project #1:

Lovely Ruffly Shawl by Rebekah Liddicoat Cast on to February 20th, 2016

I made this for my youngest daughter to wear in Hawaii.  See I had this amazing idea that I was going to knit my youngest daughter and myself a shawl and my oldest would knit herself a shawl and then we would all wear them when my hubby and I renewed our vows in Hawaii in June.  Being my first project this took me until May to finish only leaving me 6 weeks to actually finish my shawl.  I came close to finishing, but my oldest dropped a stitch and didn’t realize it until her shawl was unraveling, so she basically had to start over and I decided I would not finish mine so she didn’t feel left out.  The good news is my youngest wore her’s in Hawaii and absolutely loves it!!

I used US size 7 needles for this with a 32 inch cable.  In my knitting class we were taught on straight wood needles so this was my first time using a cable.  The needles were wood and I can not for the life of me remember the brand.  They were ok to knit with.  After trying lots of different needles I’ve decided I much prefer medal needles as the stitches slide easier.  My main struggle with this project was moving my stitches on the needles as I am a really tight knitter.

Skills I learned: Cast on, Stretchy Bind Off, KF&B, Blocking

  I finished the project May 5, 2016.  For the most part I really enjoyed knitting this shawl and I love how it turned out with the ruffly edge.  The only part I didn’t like about the project was the rows that were KF&B the entire row (especially that last two rows after having what felt like a million stitches already on the needles, but it was necessary as this is what makes the ruffle) and this pattern had no stitch count which was tough for me being a new knitter.   Otherwise the pattern was an easy knit and super easy to follow.

Project #2:

Firefly by Lydia Brown Cast on to March 2016

This project was the shawl I was knitting for myself for my vow renewal.  I decided to cast on to it while I was working on my youngest daughters shawl to hopefully make enough progress that I would be able to finish both by June.

I used US size 8 needles for this with a 32 inch cable.  This was my first time using medal needles and it was so much better than the wood needles I was using on my daughters shawl, but I hadn’t made the jump to Hiya Hiya Sharps yet so the tip was a little fiddly for picking up the stitches.  I used Medelinetosh Merino Light in 293 Sun Rose and absolutely love the feel and color of my shawl.

Skills I learned: K2tog tbl, PM, SM, YO, Aggressibely blocking to exaggerate the diamond shape

I didn’t actually finish this project until September. Once I decided to not finish it in Hawaii I set it aside for a bit and worked on a few other things.  I absolutely love the way this shawl turned out and the pattern was amazing.  It was really easy to read and memorize and it had a stitch count which made it easy to make sure I had the correct number of stitches for each section.  Plus you don’t end up with a ton of stitches to bind off at the end which is really nice considering most shawls aren’t this way.  Total stitches at the end were 391.

Project #3:

Pretty Lace Hand Warmers by Purl Soho Cast on May 2016

This is a project I started because my friend and I were going to go to a Hot August Nights event at our local winery and we had to dress up as people from the 40’s.  I wanted some lacey knit gloves to go with my dress and I stumbled across this free pattern on Ravelry and thought it would be perfect.

I used US size 5 needles for this with a 32 inch cable.  I ordered a pair of addi needles for this.  I also used Oh! Loops Twist Knot in The Queen and Her Games colorway.  I absolutely loved the color, but the needles were impossible.  At one point I was using another pair of needles just to help me get under the stitches.  A single row was taking me over an hour and it was so frustrating.  Every time I worked on it I wanted to throw it across the room.  I eventually bought a pair of hiya hiya sharps and my friend helped me move the project to those needles and then it was a bit better.

Skills I Learned:  Knitting with magic loop technique, knitting in the round, SSK, K2tog, M1R, M1L

Does this count as a WIP if I don’t like it??

I never finished this project.  I finished one glove with some help from my best friend.  The glove fits weird.  Its really tight and the cuff rolls down and won’t stay where it should.  The pattern in my opinion was probably the worst pattern I’ve ever read.  There were so many pictures and pages it was hard to navigate through.  It didn’t help that I didn’t see the tiny page numbers until I was almost done, but overall it was not a fun knit for me.

My First Square

This project I started over memorial day weekend while I was camping before I went to Hawaii with the intention I would work on it during the plane ride and any time I was in the car or had any downtime while I was on vacation.  When I started it I was thinking in my mind that my blanket would be big enough by the time fall soccer started to cover myself to keep warm and knit on it during soccer games and practices.  This was not quite the case for me.  I ended up getting 4 squares done by the time soccer started so it was big enough to keep my knee warm or a small patch of my leg, but I could not figure out how to knit on it and stay warm since it was so small.

I was gifted a pair of US size 1 carbon straight needles for this project and I absolutely love them.  They are so light and easy to use and even though they are really long and straight they don’t bother me at all.  The only downside I have found to these needles is every once in a while because they are so long, they have managed to poke themselves through the side of my project bag.

Skills I Learned: All the stitches were ones I’ve already done, but I did learn how to pick up stitches to add on a new square and this knit has helped me understand better the meaning of RS and WS.

I love this knit and am hoping to do a lot more work on it in 2017.  It is super easy and relaxing to work on.  Even with being super easy I’ve made my fair share of mistakes to learn from.  One time I picked it up after setting it down for a month and started knitting the RS on the WS, so that had to be taken back out, and one of my miters is going the wrong way since I started the square wrong.  I like that its something that I can make mistakes on and learn and grow and not be stressed out about the mistakes.

Project #5:

Just Another Vanilla Sock by Sarah Stevens Cast on end of July 2016

The toe is so cute!!

This project I started for my hubby.  I bought yarn and needles in April to make my hubby a pair of socks and just hadn’t gotten around to it.  So on the way to the lake I YouTubed how to cast on to a toe up sock and cast on to his sock and continued to work on it while at the lake that day.  I was so excited I got the toe done in one day!!  I was going to have his socks done in no time…or not.

I used US Size 1 1/2 and Malibrigo Sock Caribeno (474).  I absolutely love this colorway and the yarn feels so soft.  My hubby has tried them on at different times to make sure everything was fitting and he is so excited for me to finish.

I have not finished these yet and to be honest hadn’t even touched them since September.  I finally picked it back up last weekend and finished the heel and now am on the leg for the first sock.  I am bound and determined I am going to finish both socks in the first quarter of this year.  One thing I have realized by knitting these, my hubby has huge feet.  I can’t wait to knit a pair of socks for my youngest.  They are going to go so quick!!

Looking at Her by Lydia Brown Cast on August 28th, 2016

I had the yarn so I started another shawl even though I knew I was going to be participating in a HPKAL. 

I cast on to this pattern to by some time until my Harry Potter yarn arrived.  I knew I wasn’t going to finish it in 2016, but am hoping to have it finished by the spring so I can wear it.  So far I absolutely love how the two colors and knitting up together.

I’m using US size 5 Hiya Hiya Sharp needs and yarn is Cottage Garden by Oh!Loops and Alcaucil by Malabrigo.

Rikke Hat by Sarah Young Cast on September 1, 2016

Mom’s hat is all done!!

I cast on to this hat to make for my mom for Christmas.  My good friend had made several of these Rikke Hats and I thought they were super cool looking and thought my mom would just love it.

I used US Size 4 and 7 Hiya Hiya Sharp needles with a 16″ cable with the Oh! Loops Loop to Loop Madam Rolanda Hooch colorway.

Skills I learned:  Switching to a different needle size during the project.  Switching to magic loop once the stitches were too tight.  Closing off the top of a hat.

I really liked this pattern. It was super easy to knit and easy to follow.  It did surprise me how long it felt like it took to get through the pattern as it got really repetitive after a while.  This being one of the reasons why I didn’t finish it until January 7th.  I missed Christmas with this one, but my mom absolutely loves it and I love how the colors pooled to make this beautiful diagonal strip pattern.  I will definitely make another one of these hats.  I have even purchased yarn to make one for myself and it’s on my to do list for 2017.

Project #8:

Drop Stitch Cowl by Abi Gregorio Cast on the middle of September 2016

Working on a cowl for Savannah. 

I started this for my youngest daughter with my first ever Harry Potter yarn purchase for Oh!Loops.  I actually bought I think around 12 skeins of yarn from her different Harry Potter updates and I had each of my girls pick a cowl pattern, hat pattern, and glove pattern that I was going to use to knit them items using this beautiful Harry Potter yarn I had purchased.  I had also purchased Harry Potter yarn for a pair of socks for my hubby, a hat and shawl for myself, and a hat for my mom.  Of all those items I only got this cowl done for Savannah and the hat done for my mom.  I am however still planning on knitting the rest and have come to the conclusion that I now have until next winter to get them done.  Stress adverted!!

I used US size 15 Hiya Hiya sharp needles and Oh!Loops Bulky in the Tonks colorway.  I absolutely love how this knit up and the bulky was amazing to work with with these huge needles.

Skills I learned: dropping YO without working them

It’s all done and I LOVE how squishy it is!!

I finished this item by the beginning of October.  Its the first project I’ve ever finished in two weeks.  The pattern is super easy and fast and fun to knit and I love how it turned out.  I’ve even purchased yarn to make myself one.  Although for mine I will add more stitches and make the cowl bigger as I don’t like things tight on my neck.  For my daughter this was perfect and she absolutely loves it.

Project #9:

Here’s Looking at You by Lydia Brown Cast on September 28th, 2016

When I cast onto this hat for Savannah to go with her Cowl, the only Christmas knitting I was doing was making a hat for my mom.  I cast on and figured I would have this done in a month and she would be able to wear it with her cowl this winter.  In my mind I was thinking “she is going to look so cute wearing her hat and matching cowl when we go to Ice Fest in January.”  Well unfortunately this did not happen.  By the beginning of October I had decided I was going to knit my two sweet nieces hats for Christmas and because I was making them hats I also needed to make my other two sweet nieces and nephew hats too so no one felt left out.  Needless to say I did not finish the project in 2016 and its not much farther than it is in the pictures.  My goal is to finish this in time for her to wear it for winter in 2017.

For this I am using US size 3 Hiya Hiya sharp needles on a 16″ cable with the Oh! Loops Fashion Knot Tonks colorway.  Since the needles are so small, I am thinking I am going to be working on this for a while.

Project #10:

Sous Son Aile by Lydia Brown Cast on October 1, 2016

I cast on to this pattern to participate for the first time in the Harry Potter Kal hosted by Oh!Loops.  Lets just say this was a sock-tastrophe.  It took me several tries to even cast on to the sock and then I made several mistakes that I had to rip back out and start again.  My last mistake being knitting the wrong row in the pattern.  That was when I got a bit discouraged and that is where my sock sits.  I have every intention of knitting this pattern and starting again, but with the Christmas knitting that happened, I have yet to do it.

I used US size 2 needles with a 32″ cable and Oh! Loops Fashion Knot in the Loyal Companion colorway.

This pattern looks amazing and is easy to follow.  I saw in the Kal that lots of people finished it and it looked amazing.  I’m not sure what why I was struggling, but like I said it was a sock-tastrophe for me.

Projects #11 & 12:

Be Mine by Lydia Brown Cast on October 16th and November 1st 2016

I originally decided to make two of these hats, one for each of my nieces, as part of the Harry Potter Kal extra curricular activity for October.  I felt this was the perfect opportunity to make my nieces something for Christmas.  So now instead of just having my mom’s hat to knit for Christmas I had added two more project to knit too.  I did come really close to finishing the first hat for the Kal as I finished it on November 5th.  Only 5 days late!!

I used US size 8 hiya hiya sharps on a 16″ cable and a natural skein and blue and purple skein for my niece Zoey’s Hat and a natural skein and a pink and black skein for my niece Lilly’s hat.

B3 stitch so pretty, but a killer on my hands

  Skills I learned: B3 (bind 3 stitches together. Slip 1 stitch with yarn in back purl wise, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over last 3 stitches) This was by far probably the hardest stitch I have done so far.  I think with DK weight yarn or fingering it wouldn’t be so bad, but trying to do this stitch with bulky yarn was super hard for me.  Something I am going to work on.

I knit the first hat super fast and overall it was a fun knit.  The only issue I had was the bulky yarn and the US size 8 needles.  After a while my hands were killing me.  I did run into a huge catastrophe with Lilly’s hat.  I’m literally working on it a couple weeks before Christmas and I can’t find the second skein of the colored yarn I will need to finish it.  I looked everywhere!!  In the car, in all my project bags, under my bed…everywhere.  I could not find the second ball of yarn anywhere!!  With time ticking down to Christmas I ripped out everything I had done so far on her hat to use another skein of yarn I had two of in the bulky that were the same colors.  The pink was just a bit darker.  Needless to say I did not get her hat done before Christmas!!  I was feeling pretty bad about it too!!  I felt like the worst aunt ever!!  How do you explain to a two year old that you just didn’t get her hat finished in time.  Fortunately my niece is super sweet and I showed her what I had finished on her hat at Christmas and she is really excited for me to finish it.  I only have 5 rows left!!  YAY!!

Yarn for the three hats

I decided to do these three projects in November after I realized that I was giving two of my nieces hats for Christmas and leaving the other two and my nephew out.  My friend told me this pattern was a super fast knit so I decided it would be the perfect pattern to use to quickly knit three more hats for Christmas.

I did not have US size 6 needles on a 16″ cable like the pattern calls for so I knit the whole hat on my US size 8 Hiya Hiya sharps with a 16″ cable.  I used three skeins of yarn from Oh!loops that miss Lydia dyed up for me.  The purple was for my niece Mia, the seahawk colors for my nephew Dominic, and the burgundy for my niece Emma.

I was able to finish all three of these hats by Christmas!!  YAY!!!  And everyone love them.  The knit was fun, super easy, and really fast.  The only thing I would do differently next time is add a few more rows to Emma’s hat.  I used the adult size small for her hat and it didn’t quite cover her ears.  I also changed Emma’s hat to have a hole in the top so she could wear her messy bun out the top of it.  She loved this!!

Looking Back:

Looking back at 2016 and being my first year of knitting I am really happy with how the year went.  I leaned a lot of new skills and became a ton more confident in my knitting skills.  I cast onto 15 projects and completed 8 of them by the end of the year.  I found my preferred needles being the Hiya Hiya Sharps and have collected a ton of different sizes in those needles.  One thing I have not found yet is my preferred type of yarn.  So far I like everything I have knit with and I feel there are pro’s and cons’s to each type.  I am hoping to expand on that this next year.  In 2016 all my knits were with fingering, bulky, or worsted.  My goal for 2017 will be to find patterns that use some different weights than what I’ve already tried and to expand my knowledge of yarn a bit.

I think my favorite part of knitting is being able to share this wonderful hobby with other fellow knitters and share items I make with those I love in my life.  There is no better feeling than finishing a knit and knowing I made the whole thing myself with my own two hands!!

I can’t wait to see what all I can accomplish for 2017!!
