modern au; nonbinary steve
dustin bullies steve into playing their favorite MMO with them. to Dustin's disgust, Steve's favorite part is collecting all the different cosmetic items and making cool fantasy outfits for his avatar. unbeknownst to the party, steve creates an alt account where he can collect the female outfits and wigs, because there's a bigger selection and they're much prettier.
as Steve interacts w people on his new account, he realizes he likes it better-- for one, people pay attention to women in a way he isn't used to. not all of it is good attention, but steve relishes in it. also, he likes that people see him as a woman. he likes that they don't even think about it. quickly he joins a guild and actually starts playing the game in earnest, just so that he has these relationships with people who view and treat him as a woman.
he meets Eddie there. Eddie is charming and flirtatious with everyone, men and women, but it's clear that Steve is his favorite. Very carefully, Steve becomes closer and closer to Eddie-- close enough that Steve is full of guilt.
He feels like he's lying to Eddie about who he is, even though he's told the truth about everything but his gender. Even worse is the realization that he doesn't ever want Eddie to think of him as man-- which is confusing, because steve isn't exactly comfortable with someone he's falling in love with thinking of him as a woman.
Things get even worse when, after Steve drunk texts Eddie after a night out with Robin, they start sexting. Its fun, casual flirtation, nothing too serious, but Strve realizes he likes the idea of sex better as his alternate self. He likes pretending to have tits, he likes imagining what it would be like to have a cunt, he likes talking about wearing lingerie and being Eddie's good girl.
He thinks he can't come clean without losing the best thing he's ever had, so Steve pushes his guilt down and pretends he's not in love.
Of course he gets caught out, eventually. Dustin and Eddie become friends in real life and Eddie isn't an idiot. Steve is mortified and distraught, but once Eddie is sure that this wasn't all a cruel prank, he's quick to assure Steve that nothing has to change-- Knowing that in real life Steve has broad shoulders and a square jaw doesn't make him any more of a "man" than his online avatar makes him a "woman". Not if that's not what Steve wants.
So Steve doesn't have to give anything up. He gets to keep his amazing, supportive boyfriend. He gets to keep his pretty clothes and avatar. He gets to keep experimenting in the bedroom, finding out what makes him happy instead of what he thinks he should be doing.
And he gets more, things Steve never even dreamed of having: He gets to start buying pretty clothes in real life, too, and they hang next to his polos like they belong. He gets to grow out his hair. He gets to slowly find out what he likes, how he wants people to think of him, how he wants to think of himself.

***THE ACOLYTE SPOILERS***
Oh my god, absolutely FEASTING on fanboy tears tonight as I repeatedly rewatch not only a sexy, well-choreographed and performed fight between an Asian man and an Asian Canadian but also one between a nonbinary person and a woman (who's even playing her character as queer), holy shit!!!
And, like, do you understand what it means to me to have an evil Asian character who's not a racist caricature??? Like yeah, in Star Wars, but also in Western media in general! Also very important to me is that he's ACTUALLY HOT. Asian men never get to be hot on screen in Western media, especially Asian diaspora folks. It's not only shitty in a racist way but also a travesty for hot people enjoyers such as myself!! (And I mean like one of the few times they attempted to give it somewhat of a shot, the role went to a former incel ffs.)
This is also important because Qimir getting to be hot means people are thirsting after him!!! That's an important part of representation people don't talk about enough. Just reading posts and chats where people are seeing him as physically attractive and salivating over his body makes me so emotional??
The casting director, the costumers, and the hair and makeup teams on this production, my god. First Mother Aniseya and now Qimir. They're just casually dropping some of the hottest characters in Star Wars into this show, bless.

💜🐺🌙 Freaky, Fierce, and Fabulous!🌙🐺💜

2 months overdue, but I finally finished my Clawdeen cosplay project!
Every year since about 2018, I go to Spirit Halloween and try to find something that I can use to test my costuming/makeup skills and create a stage/contest worthy costume or makeup
Last year, I wanted to fix up their new Monster High costumes and chose Clawdeen as she was the most derivative of the box art. I got most of the alterations done in August, but then got extremely busy with school which took up a lot of time and mental energy.
I also just recently picked up shoemaking, and spent a LONG time making and remaking patterns as I DESPISED that they made Clawdeen’s boots legs warmers instead of shoe covers (and I figured a shoe without a toe puff or heel counter would be a good place to start)
Anyway, despite these hang ups, I decided not to give up on this and knew I could knock it out during winter break, and she’s finally here! 💜

I was chill with the wasian tim headcanon until I saw a tik tok that claimed tim was a canonically half asian and it killed the vibe of my entire day. was forced to put my phone down and start examining the implications on the spot. it was one thing when i could dismiss it as just a headcanon but realizing that it had become so prevalent that people believed it was canon and were taking it seriously without acknowledging the stereotypes?? ruined for me.

Rewatching the 90s live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, a nice little touch is that they go out of their way to establish that the evil ninjas are not Japanese (except the Shredder) and that the Japanese-American community has actually been warning the authorities about the evil Foot Clan.
I don't know how many people remember this, but in the 80s/90s in America there was a lot of anxiety / prejudice towards Japan, which was perceived as this mysterious place full of workers who were "too" efficient compared to lazy Americans and thus were going to crush the American car industry or something.
Specifically, I remember an American car dealer (as in he sold American car brands like Fords or Chevys) who ran a local ad urging people to "buy American" instead of supporting "communist Japan."
Shoutout to the journalist back then who covered the story / called him out on his prejudice + pointed out that Japan was not a communist country. No matter the era, there were / are people pushing back against stupidity and bigotry. And you can be one of them. :)
Anyway, TMNT is a great movie.

Oh, so now the show is gonna have him blackmailed for rape tapes to not be shown to his boyfriend? O2, you are testing me in every way because seriously, why? Why? I mean, Thien Bao is also regularly hallucinating and Dinh Huy finally accepted his feelings and instantly went into making out, they haven't talked at all and I just... there are two more episodes and I really hope we get a happy ending but I also have no idea what that even looks like at this point.
What I really want is for Thien Bao to tell Dinh Huy about what's happening with the blackmail and for Dinh Huy to comfort him and then go beat people up but, like, I doubt the show can give me that. Hell, they're probably gonna break up again next episode and only get together in the last few moments of the final episode.
Sigh.
(And, in much more meta issues, O2 is really bothering me because they were talking about their biggest!!! production!!! ever!!! and are now begging for money because they overspent and it's like... then why did you make such a big production? No one was asking for it. Do you know what we have been asking for? The Lost Ring. Which you are still using in your advertising without ever making which means that I refuse to donate because the last time I did was for The Lost Ring... three fucking years ago. Three years is too long to make multiple shows and still be claiming to raise money for the one you haven't made.)
