When I was a boy, newly interested in art, my mother took me to the Metropolitan Museum. We looked around the lobby, and when we discovered that there were no art classes being offered, my mother lost interest. I begged her, I wanted to see something, so she let me go upstairs alone. The Met then wasn't like it was now: it was like a big warehouse for scholars. When I got to one dark room filled with paintings I heard a tapping sound, like a cane on the floor. I was fearful, somebody was coming towards me. This guy came up to me -- he had polished shoes -- he put his walking stick on my sternum and pushed me down. He told me 'Dirty little boys like you should not be in museums like this.' Years later I realized who that man was: James Rorimer the director of the museum.
from Jerome Witkin: Painting History, Memory and Fantasy
The Met now has a number of Witkins in its collection.

Sky doing a Merc behind the scenes in Monza that they were very clearly all looking to make into what would evidently be a Kimi debut piece only for him to bin it in the wall and they had to pivot is… well it’s not funny but I do think it’s sort of what Merc deserved with this whole media spectacle thing

Your tf2 artist template says that you've been in the fandom/playing for 9+ years, but you've been drawing tf2 fanarts for only a year if I'm not mistaken? (unless I simply didn't stumble upon your older tf2 art if you actually were drawing😭) So what got you this interested in drawing fanarts for a game you've known for years and years? Was it the save tf2 movement or there's a much more interesting story behind it?
ah! well, i do have some very very old tf2 art lying around here somewhere im sure... that, and you have to keep in mind i do draw plenty that i simply never post! but yes, it is true that i havent been posting about tf2 much at all until the past year or so (although its a decision im very glad i made! i cannot fathom why i had just never addressed one of my primary special interests like that....) and actually, it was emesis blue that finally made the decision me. as mentioned, i have been into tf2 for as long as i can actually remember, but it was because of emesis blue (and the fan art that came from it) that the tf2 artist community here caught my attention and made me want to be active in it!

As things stand right now, just his own one! He’s not linked to any of the other story/concepts I’ve made so far because I feel like he doesn’t QUITE fit into those very well
So I’m developing a new funny lil ocverse for this guy

I wrote a longer and more overwrought version of this post when I was slightly drunker (yay distillery book club) but the shorter, more sober-clarity version is: it's so ridiculous that about 50% of my current fandom experience is based on things that are now 25 years old (thanks for the reminder, lucasfilm) and yet I'm terrified of being left behind because I 'can't move on' from something that is now barely 5 years old
you could probably attempt to make some sort of sweeping statement about this, like the lifespan of media now versus the early 00s, but what it's really about is my own issues with abandonment which is affecting both my ability to move on (I really struggle with the 'crew breaks up between installment thing', always have) and also the general fear of behind left behind, rather than any real trends in fandom as a whole
ok I think that's enough for superb owl sunday

What I love about the intuitive eating model is that it places "eating nutritionally" as the least important and final step to consider, and isn't even "supposed" to be followed until it is (mentally, physically, or economically) viable to the person doing the intuitive eating. And someone will hear this and go "What, isn't that encouraging unhealthy eating, to not prioritize nutrition?" When in actuality, the model lessening the importance of "eating nutritionally" IS in the pursuit of the most healthy eating habits of a person.
Intuitive eating is just one of the only eating mindset models that refuses to ignore the reality of disordered eating and diet culture and how we are surrounded by and internalize it all the time, and it takes into account what ACTUALLY fuels EDs. The other base steps of intuitive eating, placing zero restrictions on yourself (aside from allergens and such), eating what you enjoy and eating until you are full, all of these start at the core of untangling the internalized shame and fatphobia which fuels what is fundamentally more unhealthy than "not eating nutritionally", which is not eating at all and having an unhealthy relationship to food.
Intuitive eating understands that the mindset of "eating nutritionally" can easily lead to obsessive tendencies towards restricting and anxiety over eating the "right" foods. And even within the intuitive eating model, eating nutritionally means adding ALONGSIDE what you eat to balance out what nutrients you can, and most importantly to enjoy everything you eat, because eating can and should be pleasurable, not a job or a chore or a domination of the body and soul.

oh ok
#succession#tomgreg#OH MY GOD THE SCENE IS THIS CLOSE AFTER?!?? i thought i had some time !!! i jqqqqqqq#man. man. mn!!!!aman!!!!man!!!!!!!!!!!!!! man.#matt johnson you would love tomgreg#what the fuck is this scene though i want to die i PHYSICally want to di e Eeeeeeeeeee#he........i .........fkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkmmmmmmmmmmmm#ok. okok. ok . novel tags ok i can think through my absolute fucking grief. ok so basically.#tom giving greg advice about prison. and then greg like basically begs to have tom take the rap for him. but not directly.#he can never say things directly. but tom translates. and it doesn't take him long to say fine. load me up. you piece of shit.#but he doesn't even mean the latter statement he's too sad. and he won't fight. the fight is all gone out of him.#so much for greg being expendable though huh?#look me in the eyes and tell me tom isn't in love with greg at least a little. yall telling me you'd take the rap for someone and go to jail#for them if you didn't love them? ok bestie you do you#i kind of like as well the comparison of the conversation between them and him and shiv like. it's very similar in that him and greg are#saying sentences that are parts of different conversations like him and shiv's convo ALTHOUGH it is still related bc it's to do with jail#she wouldn't even talk about that subject at all. and then it correlates to the whole. nero and sporus thing right. and the dressing up/ring#ALSO THE FACT HE DIDNT WANNA SLEEP WITH HER AND HES OUT LATE AT A DINER WITH GREG I GET IT G IS HIS MISTRESS#but anyway.#and the WAYYYYYYY greg's voice breaks and the way he looks at tom with pleading eyes and it looks like he's about to cry#that's what does it for tom i think. that's what breaks him. he can't bear the thought of greg suffering for months.#which makes me believe that that is why he was so sad earlier when greg was asking for advice. he doesn't like greg to suffer#by other hands of course. if it's by his hands that's another matter BUT THATS ANOTHER CAN OF WORMS#LIKE I KNOW ITS KIND OF AN ASSHOLE MOVE OF GREG BUT AT THE SAME TIME HES LIKE. idk early 20s. 26ish latest???#and i would be fucking terrified i'm 30 and i still don't know what the fuck is going on i don't know how i am still alive so i get it.#and if you have someone who has been taking care of you and has in the past flexed their power and money to give you food and parties#and move you up in a company and give you opportunities you most likely would never get. you kinda. latch. and fall into a pattern.#you assume he has a way out for you#has help. i mean greg probably assumed he wouldn't say yes in the first place so he kinda Has to be an asshole for any chance at all tbh.#he even said quid pro quo. but tom didn't even want anything in return. i mean idk what greg could even give him [lol] but still.

Yesss @ your tags on the Childe post. I want to add that even if someone is shaped by trauma/an extreme upbringing, as he very well may have been, unless someone is insane or having an episode of something their actions are still them. It makes his behaviour more sympathetic but (or rather AND) he still has agency over his actions.
I feel like ~the discourse~ can be terrible at handling this sort of character because it can suck at acknowledging the uglier side of mental illness and neurodivergence- the way that hurt people hurt people- with nuance in general. So he has to be sorted into Traumatised(TM) and therefore forgivable or Irredeemable(TM) and can't be sympathised with at all.
yeah! childe is, pretty obviously, traumatised (and as you said may or may not have had an extreme upbringing we don't really know yet iirc but it could be implied), but i feel like that makes it even more important to acknowledge that, as you said, his actions are still his, because i feel like people have this tendency to look at a character and then either decide that everything they ever do even slightly wrong is completely justified and forgivable because they're traumatised or label them as an irredeemable monster and disregard the aspect of it that stems from the fact that they themselves have been deeply hurt because that means that they can't continue to view that character as having absolutely no humanity anymore.
as you mentioned, i think the main issue with the discourse is that people seem to have such a hard time reconciling the fact that someone can be shaped by trauma and their upbringing and still be aware of their actions and the consequences of those actions, and then because of that they end up sliding to one of the two extremes with their interpretation of the character and like. they can be traumatised and shaped by that trauma and still have their actions be Them. they're not being controlled by some Ghost Trauma Force or anything lol (unless as you said they are insane or having an episode of something but that's a different topic) they are Choosing to do those things and therefore have accountability for those actions; this also means, however, that it would be literally impossible for every action they take to come from a place of pure evil - people can, in fact, exist in shades of grey in terms of morality (shocking, i know)

i was mulling over the potential of talking to a friend about the differences between how Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 portray super mutants (or to be more specific, how thge original two games and Fallout 3 portrayed super mutants, as New Vegas was written by members of the original fallout team and thus had their specifics on them) and it struck me that Fawkes in 3 is one of only a few mutants to actually be like the mutants of the original games
instead of the hateful, rampaging and simple-minded berserkers that function as sci fi orcs or a convenient humanoid antagonist, these are mutants as they were SUPPOSED to be; smart as any human, possibly even smarter. Fully in control of their own faculties, with the strength of a post-human being able to survive and thrive in the wasteland. Like humans but improved, and humane in every way that genuinely matters. More physically powerful, and more human than many of the Wastelands actually
so it I had this visual of Fawkes being told, in all sincerity (possibly by Marcus or another member of the Unity) "You were the one who came out right."

just saying I'd 100% wear an agar plate shirt. I'd thrive with that actually. especially if it was e. coli and you managed to make it metallic green. you see my vision.
I would also very much wear mold print shirts. Mold is gross but I kinda like the way it looks on walls. I think a shirt with a dusty mold pattern would be cool.
