so it seems some of the ,, bad parts of the developing fandom are due to the fact some people seem to think touchstarved is an otome game. like not otome-adjacent which the creators definitely meant (they mention enjoyers of otome games may enjoy this one in the trailer description, but that's it), but these people are upset about the gayness and the pronouns and the fact it's more of a self-insert because they are judging it by otome standards. comments on an otome reddit thread complain that the cgs won't feature the mc due to their faceless nature. i was confused by this since i'm a huge fan of the arcana, a game where we NEVER see the mc, not even their hands. then i recalled other otome games where the love interests are kissing and holding a skinny pretty girl and i was like oh.

I love it when people add to my posts, whether it's just tags or big texts. What I find obnoxious tho it's when people reblog my posts to say that I'm wrong or that some things are not how I portrayed them.

Here's the thing about fanfic in the jetlag community. THEY FUCKING READ IT!! its not like the flipping mcyt fandom,,

If the boys have boundaries, they need to communicate that with the wider fandom,,, with the information available to us its 'we know it exists don't spam us'... I am terrified of ben doyle reading any of my fanfic,,, and as long as you don't send it to them its fine!! I am not doing the MCYT flashbacks where we send creators are E-rated fanfics again. I'm going to write my cute alien fic and QPR Ben and Adam even tho I know they are both presenting as straight... nad you can fight me on that.

Well first of all, they are 100% fine with fic. I haven't been in the fandom proper for a while now, but when the OG Twitter Discord was made I joined for a couple of days and the boys did too. Ben said they were fine with fanfic being written:

But also, just a lesson in what a boundary is:

A boundary is not a restriction on what other people can and can't do. A boundary does not prevent people from doing anything. A boundary is a personal thing, which you yourself have to uphold. If any of the boys have boundaries against fanfiction, that doesn't mean we all have to stop writing and enjoying it, it means you don't shove it in their faces. Don't send it to them, don't post it on platforms like Twitter or Reddit that they actively and frequently use, but that's it! And frankly, even that is more than is necessarily expected. If you wanted to post fics on Twitter or Reddit you could, and they could block you so they don't see it.

The internet is a vast place filled with all sorts of people. You cannot make everyone happy. Everyone will be uncomfortable about different things. It is your responsibility as an individual to cater your own online experience. It doesn't matter if you're famous, it's still your job!

i want to add to what the anon that said they feel like if they can’t compare to atyd the fandom won’t care.

i just want to say the way that fic was treated was INSANE. it was taken and treated like the very basis of the fandom as if people haven’t been writing fanfiction about the marauders since before harry potter even finished. and then they crossed every single boundary mskingbean89 set, they had it illegally made into books, published elsewhere, tried to find out who mskingbean is etc. and then all of a sudden they decided it needed to be criticised and they absolutely tore it to shreds because it was “ableist” (which what??) or they didn’t like the characterisation of certain characters, or how something panned out, or they thought wolfstar was toxic and GOD nobody asked. she never invited that criticism and it’s just so crazy the way she and so many other fic writers and artists have been and are still treated.

oh and they for some reason decided that dorcas was white in atyd and attacked mskingbean for it even tho she WASNT. i checked her race is never described i’m just so.

oh, absolutely! the opinions about atyd are very divided, but the way that people treat that fic, like i said, is insane. imagine people being that desperate to find out who you are and pretty much canceling all the bad things you have done solely because you wrote a fic that just so happened to blow up, and even getting to the point where they do illegal stuff (making them into books).

the thing is that atyd is one of the most well-known fics in the fandom, along with the fics zar wrote, art heist! baby, and whichever other fics there are (i prefer writing fic rather than read, and when i do read, i mostly read one-shots, so i can't really name the most popular fics) are treated like some sort of bible and the fandom becomes obsessed with it to the point where they literally harass people and cross boundaries of real, actual people.

the way people treat the well-known contwnt creators is insane, and it's the same way with atyd. after loving it and preaching to it like it's the bible, they suddenly turn against it and bash on it and, like, what's up with the sudden change of heart? suddenly realized that there were things that you didn't like or things that did not fit your narrative?

now, i'm not saying that there might not be wrong things with the fic or that there are things that people might not like about it, or that the characterizations in it are inherently good or bad, but the criticism is uninvited and once again, i am reminding everyone that authors and artists of all kinds produce content the way they see it. they don't owe you jackshit, whether they're popular and hyped up or not.

people in this fandom consume media in such an unhealthy way, either idolizing it or comparing it to said other idolized works. either way, it's unhealthy, and it drives people away from the content they enjoy creating, and then people complain about why their favorite content creators leave fandom. this is why.

Apparently this is a Hot Take, but imo pets do not need to be groomed to the same standards as show dogs. There is no need to force a scared dog to deal with loud force dryers and meticulous fluff drying just to make sure the coat is perfectly straight. Kennel drying is not a bad thing. The cut may not be as perfectly even, but does it really need to be? As long as the coat is clean and brushed out thoroughly, I don't see the problem.

In an ideal world, every dog would be comfortable with the whole grooming process, but that's not the reality I'm working with. I groom pets, and many of those pets come to me either never having been groomed or having had bad experiences with grooming. Teaching them that grooming doesn't have to be scary or difficult takes time, and if the owners don't do the work at home, their dogs may never be 100% comfortable on my table. I would rather send a dog home with a cute but less than perfect haircut than force them through a process that terrifies them. This is doubly true for doodles, since half of their owners prefer the wavy rustic look anyway.

I work for myself so thankfully I don't have to have this argument irl, but I am so tired of seeing it in my professional groups. Some groomers are just so hung up on turning out the 'perfect' groom that they disregard the wellbeing of the animal in front of them. It's not worth it, the owner doesn't care (if they did they would have done more to make the dog comfortable from the get go) and it makes such a huge difference for the dog's experience.
