Two Very Similar Proposals
Where did Mr. Collins get the idea that delicate females refuse proposals to increase love? Maybe from Evelina...
Here is a side-by-side comparison of the accepted and wanted proposal in Fanny Burney’s Evelina and the refused and unwanted proposal in Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park (MP in blockquotes, Evelina in italics) because they are extremely similar, to the point that I think it must be on purpose:
“You are going, then,” cried he, taking my hand, “and you give me not the smallest hope of your return!-will you not, then, my too lovely friend!-will you not, at least, teach me, with fortitude like your own, to support your absence?”
“She must not go, she must allow him five minutes longer,” and he took her hand and led her back to her seat
“My Lord,” cried I, endeavouring to disengage my hand, “pray let me go!”
after having twice drawn back her hand, and twice attempted in vain to turn away from him, she got up, and said only, with much agitation, “Don’t, Mr. Crawford, pray don’t! I beg you would not. This is a sort of talking which is very unpleasant to me. I must go away. I cannot bear it.”
“I will,” cried he, to my inexpressible confusion, dropping on one knee, “if you wish to leave me!”
“O, my Lord,” exclaimed I, “rise, I beseech you, rise!-such a posture to me!-surely your Lordship is not so cruel as to mock me!”
she was exceedingly distressed, and for some moments unable to speak. She considered it all as nonsense, as mere trifling and gallantry, which meant only to deceive for the hour; she could not but feel that it was treating her improperly and unworthily, and in such a way as she had not deserved...
“No, no, no!” she cried, hiding her face. “This is all nonsense. Do not distress me. I can hear no more of this.”
“Mock you!” repeated he earnestly, “no I revere you! I esteem and I admire you above all human beings! you are the friend to whom my soul is attached as to its better half! you are the most amiable, the most perfect of women! and you are dearer to me than language has the power of telling.”
I attempt not to describe my sensations at that moment; I scarce breathed; I doubted if I existed,-the blood forsook my cheeks, and my feet refused to sustain me: Lord Orville, hastily rising, supported me to a chair, upon which I sunk, almost lifeless.
she could hardly stand.
For a few minutes, we neither of us spoke; and then, seeing me recover, Lord Orville, though in terms hardly articulate, intreated my pardon for his abruptness. The moment my strength returned, I attempted to rise, but he would not permit me.
I cannot write the scene that followed, though every word is engraven on my heart; but his protestations, his expressions, were too flattering for repetition: nor would he, in spite of my repeated efforts to leave him, suffer me to escape:-in short, my dear Sir, I was not proof against his solicitations-and he drew from me the most sacred secret of my heart!
But he was still talking on, describing his affection, soliciting a return, and, finally, in words so plain as to bear but one meaning even to her, offering himself, hand, fortune, everything, to her acceptance.
Later, we have Lord Orville, who remember, is the hero, forcing Evelina to speak:
He saw that my eyes were red, and would not let me rest till he made me confess the cause; and when, though most reluctantly, I had acknowledged my weakness, I could with difficulty refrain from weeping again at the gratitude he expressed.
“Why then, my Lord,” said I, “we had better let the subject drop.”“Impossible!” cried he, “I cannot rest without an explanation!”
In vain was her “Pray, sir, don’t; pray, Mr. Crawford,” repeated twice over; and in vain did she try to move away. In the same low, eager voice, and the same close neighbourhood, he went on, reurging the same questions as before. She grew more agitated and displeased.
“How can you, sir? You quite astonish me; I wonder how you can—”
We know that Austen read Fanny Burney’s works (they are mentioned in Northanger Abbey) and that they were very popular. I wonder now, was Austen re-writing this scene? If Evelina is acting as a modest girl was expected to act, was Jane Austen trying to correct men’s thinking? For me, it was disturbing to read a proposal where a man was asking a woman to marry him, which was wanted, and he had to physically hold her in place to ask, against her will.
It is uncanny how similar these two proposals read; very strange that the hero of Evelina acts in such a similar way to the antagonist of Mansfield Park. I can’t help but think it means something. Evelina’s “no” doesn’t seem to actually mean “no”, Fanny Price’s does.

Q!pac’s goal of becoming his best self, a stronger version of himself being displayed by this new archer skin makes me feel crazy because look
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look that the similarities between these two skins. The crossbody strap that covers up the logo’s of their shirts. Fingerless gloves on their right hands and a more bulky almost gauntlet like glove on q!pac’s that emulates q!fits prosthetic arm. The jeans.
Q!pac’s idea of his best version of himself is one so innately and intimately tied to q!fit as if to say that he cant fully be that version of himself without q!fit.

Building up on both of does anon posts, Machete and Vasco being historical figures that make waves every so often on tumblr feels very canon and not too far from actual tumblr's favourite historical figures.
And also, I feel that Machete shouldn't go that unnoticed by scholars. Being this powerful member of the clergy that escaped many assassination attempts before being killed and had a personal relationship with the pope. Like this man was a deathly and important part of the inquisition, but also left behind rumours of a same-sex relationship with a married politician.
I can definitely see him becoming a point of interest for some historians, especially does who studied the inquisition or the clergy. That's probably how Vasco's paintings of him got discovered and documented and how their relationship stopping being considered a rumour started by his now-death enemies, but an actual theory with some weight behind it.
Idk why but I'm becoming very invested in the ways history would treat and remember them, way too many scandals and drama for them to be forgotten in time.
You do make a very convincing point.
People are getting so invested in their hypothetical in-universe reputation and are clearly putting some serious thought into it and it's getting me hyped up as well ;_;

Connecting dots tonight (didn't connect shit, I've connected them, etc) because of this post about item descriptions to do with Sampo I saw a few days ago and! I feel like there are so many interesting things that could be implied from this!! Because the recipe for the High-Tech Protective Gear is given to you by Bronya (before the IPC invaded Belobog!), who says this little interesting tidbit about it:
Tumblr media
This is an item from before the Eternal Freeze, 700 years ago. Even to the rest of the universe, it would be SORELY outdated. It cannot be made in Belobog anymore due to the loss of entire eras. It is effectively useless; this recipe had to be somewhere gathering dust, kept around solely for archival purposes. There is no reason for Sampo to know about this item or have any idea how it works and yet. AND YET. He's just running around selling knock offs!!
He shouldn't even know how to make these, but the fact that he does means Sampo either
had the blueprints from off-world before he came to Belobog (most likely but also most boring answer)
broke into Qlipoth Fort and copied down the blueprints (completely plausible - he's possibly shown doing exactly that in his splash art)
found another copy out in the ruins of the old world (also completely plausible - Sampo is astoundingly resilient against both the Fragmentum and the cold, as noted by Lynx haha)
Meanwhile, the Inferior Protective Gear recipe comes from an NPC in the underground, and when she gives it to you, she talks about building robots and the robot fighting scene sorry about the quality I didn't have screenshots for her dialogue so I had to use wiki
Tumblr media
Which makes me feel like it's safe to say that the inferior gear is mostly being used in the underground, especially by the vagrants and their robots for fights, because...well, who else would use it? Cocolia has made it illegal to explore too far into the Snow Plains, and besides, it's way too dangerous for most civilians even WITH gear. The Silvermane Guards are funded by official sources, they have no reason to rely on Sampo for armor. So it makes sense for an underground mechanic to know the recipe; there's probably not as much market for it up in the overworld.
And if you look at the descriptions, you can see why this probably wasn't something that could be made in Belobog anymore; it requires a charging system of some sort.
Tumblr media
We know it's not a problem with the basic materials because all three ingredients can be found right in the administrative district. But the underground only has two of them; somehow, despite being in the planet's crust, and literally crawling with robots...there is no metal down there. It isn't found anywhere, sold by anyone, or dropped by anything. And metal just so happens to be the one ingredient Sampo replaces in his knock off version.
The Inferior Gear uses trash instead, something which, going by the words of that same mechanic, is MORE than abundant in the underground- any good quality parts are extremely difficult to come by down there.
Tumblr media
Anyway, all his shadiness aside, I love the implication that Sampo is smart enough to be able to take this item that no one else on the planet probably knows anything about, and was able to figure out what he could replace, and how, and with what, in order to make it easily accessible to the people of the underground, even without access to overworld resources. Because his version DOES work! It literally gives you the exact same amount of defense boost as the IPC one!
Tumblr media
Someone should absolutely still knock him around for it, though, world's most slappable face fr fjkdsjfdkjafk

Fairly recently I had someone comment on a post that they don’t like it when people accuse animated series crews of plagiarism since it takes so long to develop and it might just be a coincidence but I just came across a post explaining what authors are supposed to do to avoid such accusations and I felt like pointing out why the ML crew cannot be presumed innocent: they themselves admitted to reading and viewing the specific fan content it is believed they stole from. Back in the S1 days. Likely before development on S2 started. It is highly unlikely that they independently came up with nearly identical character designs while also consuming the fan art at the same time.
Professionals are supposed to avoid fanfic specifically to avoid these issues but the crew admits to happily consuming it, influencing their decisions consciously or subconsciously.

Do you like pathetic men?
Tumblr media
Do you like men, who are morally dubious conmans, but care deeply about a child that's close to them?
Tumblr media
Do you think more characters should fake being mediums, tricking real mediums into believing them for a monetary gain?
Tumblr media
Do you think there's nothing funnier than a character faking an american accent to pretend that they are possesed ?
Tumblr media
If so

I refuse to believe this is just a coincidence. Hunter just lost Flapjack, someone he saw as family, and he's gonna deal with grief. What two other characters are dealing with grief in the show?
Tumblr media
Mother figuer,
Tumblr media
Father figuer.
This is gonna be important, isn't it? Or maybe it is a coincidence.
