notes! . . . y'know the phrase, “save a horse, ride the cowboy”? well, I decided to-do something about it with boothill... except it's sfw and more like “save a horse, ride with the cowboy” cuz i dont do nsfw here >:/. god give me acceptance for how boothill is so ooc here- 😭😭 idnk how to write his character properly, and does he even have a horse?? I don't remember seeing a horse when his character and banner got leaked, so let's just pretend he does have one for the sake of K'hailreigh for this plot. 💀

imagine returning the horse boothill had been searching for all day after it got the chance to escape through the tall fences the moment they were opened, his eyes widen at the sight of his companion with you guiding alongside it. normally, his horse wouldn't follow after someone else's orders other than him... and it behaves pretty feisty and rough with people who isn't him.

boothill is relieved to see that his trusty horse hadn't been injured, briefly thanking you as he goes over to fuss over his stallion. you can't help your gaze wandering and examining his figure, in awe of the metallic and cyborg parts of the cowboy in front of you. sure you might've seen people having artificial and metal parts attached to them, but this man right here just plainly looks like a robot if it weren't for his humanly head.

boothill notices you eyeing every inch of him, glancing from the lasso that hangs at his hips to the pistols to his arms and to his legs. he glares a wolfishly smile at you, baring the shark-like teeth that you gaze in short surprise at, and asks in a teasingly tone, “like what you see, darlin'?”, observing how you blink owlishly at him. but then, he's becomes sort of surprised when you nod your head and confirm that—yes, you like his appearance and how the color scheme matches altogether, while indirectly  commenting how he's a good-looking cowboy.

boothill, after his turn of blinking at you, grins and narrows his eyes with an intrigued look in them; amused by you and how you don't seem in the slightest.. nervous or terrified in his presence. you perked the cyborg's interest.

finishing the small talk with the man, you mention that you'll be needing to go somewhere for an errand and boothill takes the opportunity to offer a ride there on his horse—as a thanks for retrieving his horse, taking in your surprised expression with a grin as he ends the sentence with a “darlin'”. he insists, even if you refuse, so you decide that it'll be quicker to go in a horse ride with the cowboy than rather walking by foot as you were given no other choice.

with boothill's assistance, you were boosted onto the horse and instructed by him to hold on as he looks back at you, flashing a toothy grin and a finger tilting his hat just slightly for a short moment before you and him rode off towards where you were needed to be at with his horse. startled by the increasing speed his horse was going, you instinctively grasp onto the cyborg cowboy's built body in order to not fall off during the ride accidentally—boothill grins at your expression, his laughter going with the wind, “better hol' on tight for now, sweetheart. this'll be a rough ride! i'll get ya to where yer headin' in no time!”

how do you sweep mines?

HI MILO I WOULD BE DELIGHTED TO EXPLAIN!!! minesweeper is very fun to me and it gets shit on a lot bc people don't realize that it's actually pretty simple once you understand the way the game works ;;;

the only real trick to it is this: the number = how many mines are touching that space. if there is a 1, then that 1 is in contact with only 1 mine. no more, no less. if the number is 3 then that space is in contact with 3 mines. so on and so forth. that's it! that's the game! (keep in mind: this includes diagonals! every space CAN be touching 8 other spaces)

BUT i get that it can still be sort of hard to wrap your head around, SO let's do a little bit of a break down of a level of minesweeper that i completed :)

so you've opened minesweeper and tapped the screen. the layout you get is as seen above; great, but what now?

my first step is always this: find the 1s on the corners. i find that the corners are the easiest place to start because they're the most obvious location that you will find mines. if there is a 1 sticking off of a corner, then that corner will ALWAYS be a mine.

as you can see, every one of the untapped spaces circled has at least one 1 touching it and the 1 is touching only that untapped space. this means that the untapped space is a mine, because there are no other untapped spaces that the 1s on the corners are touching. so, we switch to our flags and we mark these spots. this is our starting point and we will build everything else off of the certainty that these seven flags are 100% mines.

next, we want to rule out any other mines we might be able to before we start clearing the board. how? here's an explanation for how i found two of them:

the 1 i've circled is touching two untapped spaces, and one of those we've already used the corner trick to determine has a mine on it. this means that the second space cannot have a mine, because the 1 can only be touching one mine. that space is clear.

here, the 2 above the 1 is touching three untapped spaces; the one mine we've already determined, the one clear space we've determined, and one additional space. based on the information we have, we know that the third space must have a mine.

finally, the next 2 is also only touching three untapped spaces; the space we know is clear, the space we've determined has a mine based on the previous 2, and the one above that. again, we can know that the third space has a mine because it is the only place the mine could be.

we do this to every area we can. i only found 3 during this game, but there will sometimes be more! next: you start clearing the spaces you know are safe.

as you can see, i got trigger happy and laid a few extra flags as i went, but i was following the same process:

if there is a corner, mark the mine.

if there is a 1 that is already touching a mine, clear out every other space the 1 is touching.

if you already know where the mines are on any others, clear out around those.

just keep following that process, marking mines as you go, and eventually-

i think it definitely takes a little bit of practice, and a lot of trial and error, but once you get it down it gets much much easier!

I am quite a lot more confident in my writing now too idk what really changed in terms of how happy i am w my prose lol, but I think I do handle the topic of attraction very tastefully especially considering I'm not actually putting any ero content, just acknowledging that different things exist lol. Which is great cuz ultimately I like writing very grounded and human feeling characters even if they're all little freaks.

And like one of the first things i wanted was to have a main character and cast that wasn't like, so naive and childishly innocent in love as some of the romances i've played/read before lol.

Like Val isn't going to be innocently charming them with her naivete and being clueless about hand holding and cuddling 😂 Val knows she's cute and she knows she's trying to bag hotties. it's her express purpose in life, it's the only thing she cares about after baking. If she wears a bikini and the guys tell her she must be too naive and innocent to know that it'll make guys pounce on her she'll be like "yeah i wore this for that purpose actually 😐"

I've seen a few posts on my dash about the idea of Amy's attempt to fix Surge only resulting in Surge somehow making her worse (aka corrupting her), and I feel there could be potential behind that scenario. What about you?

🙏 OKOK so I've seen a couple & i absolutely love the idea I won't even lie

(hc) but i very much think of Amy as stubbornly good and firm in her beliefs (shes based herself all on heroism, esp with the resistance and all 😭). Surge would definitely struggle to change Amy for the worse; especially since i consider Surge to be the weaker one of the two when it comes to morals and alike.

I personally dig the hc scenario where Surge is slowly melting away her anger and hatred (w/ Amy being doting and patient SLOW BURN 100K WORDS 30+ CHAPS until they inevitably hold hands) but this is more wishful thinking, i definitely see the canon panning out with them hating each other (especially after the whole forest fire)

+ the panel from the recent IDW issue where Amy is like we aren't forcing you to be part of the resistance or anything and Surge is like 'huh 🤔' IDK IDK i think Surge cracks first

HOWEVER, Amy letting loose and being a delinquent of sorts after giving up 'fixing' Surge, is something i would love to see for the fun of it.

It might be super ooc but imagine Amy just becomes tired of being a hero and cracks THEN decides the next best thing now is fighting random bots or ppls w/ Surge 😭 and the resistance is just like wtf 😭 LMAO (also imagine a tag team surge / amy vs sonic, it will never happen but it's both funny and interesting to think about)

Regardless, there's a bunch of potential dynamics with this. I'm liking the dynamic Surge brings w/ the resistance (like Whisper and her, it's so good especially if we mix in Tangle) (consider: whispangle jump surge) THERE'S so much potential for fights, connections, verbal arguments... the drama is crazy.

Sorry, this is a bit long. But thank you for the ask, i really hope the canon timeline will give us more of their dynamic 🙏

(TLDR: i do believe corrupt amy has potential, but i personally lean towards redemption surge 🙏)
