What’s the last LGBTQIAP+ YA book you checked out from your library?⁣ ⁣ We love our libraries! I haven’t been as active on our YA Pride accounts over the past week because *drum roll* I just transferred colleges! As soon as I finished studying today, I had to go check out the children’s section of my new library to see what LGBTQIAP+ YA books we have in stock! PART 1

Over the summer I read a book called “Its Not Like Its a Secret” by Misa Sugiura. I enjoyed my read, resulting me finishing the book in a short time (at least short for myself, a non habitual reader). So inspired by what I had just read, I reached out to the author of the book to ask some questions. Not to my surprise, Misa turned out to be a lovely woman! Who seems to truly care about her work and those who helped inspire it.  She was gracious enough to allow me to interview her about the book and I was not disappointed by her responses, Here is the full Q & A between Misa and I. Last night I stayed up until 2am to finish this book and I absolutely LOVED it!!!! I loved the romance, the characters (except Elaine), and the lessons it taught me about what life is like for people of color. I loved that there were only like 2 white characters and none of them were main characters. This book talks about race, sexuality, morality, and acceptance in such careful way. I highly recommend this book! It’s Not Like It’s a Secret is a poem of a novel, Misa Sugiura’s perspective as a teacher really shone on amazing and realistic characters. I loved the insight into Japanese culture, the poetry and the much-needed discussions on racism and stereotypes. Little know fact: the largest Japanese community outside of Japan is in Brazil! This book needs to be published here!
