“Do you remember when your ex dumped you back in second year and you came over to my house crying?”
Hajime nearly combusts in your lap with how hot his face became, a deep flush of scarlet making its presence known. Poor thing had been scrolling on his phone with his head resting on your thighs, almost dozing off from the feeling of your fingers tangled in his hair.
“First of all, I’d just like to let you know that I hated the way you started this conversation,” He scowls, emerald eyes flicking up to your curious face from his phone. “Secondly, what’s the point of your question?”
“Well I just realized that I never really knew why you two broke up, and I kinda want to know.”
Instantly, Hajime rolls his eyes before sitting up, his large hand pinching the bridge of his nose, “I don’t know… does it matter? It was years ago, why do you think about them?”
“Well you know about my hookups!”
“Babe, we’ve all made out with Mattsun, I’ve told you it doesn’t count-“
“You all WHAT?”
“I thought that was common knowledge,” he shrugs. You blink at him, eyes wide before one brow quirks in confusion, “uhm. We’ll come back to that. Now, about that ex-“
“Please don’t make me say it,” he whines, resting his elbows on his knees and face burying in his hands. His ears are bright red, flushed to the point where you’re sure it’s hot to the touch, but when he responds like that, you’re almost determined to make him answer, no matter how much of a bully you’re being.
“Okay, you can’t respond like that and expect me not to be curious,” you snort, your arms tossing around his hunched frame. “C‘mon Haji,” you purr, nudging the bit of his cheek with your nose. “It’s just me, babe. You know you can tell me anything.”
“It’s embarrassing.”
“We’ve lived together for two years, you’ve come in the bathroom to floss you’re teeth while I’m pooping, you let me pop blackheads on your nose on facetime with your friends, but this is embarrassing?”
“Well it was, but now I’m questioning this entire situation.”
You roll your eyes, “you fucking love me.” Then, you smile and bounce on your haunches, “tell me! You can trust me! Besides, you already know I’m going to ask tooru anyways, so you may as well-”
“Jesus fuck, alright,” he growls, but his grumpiness quickly turns less threatening when your arms toss around his shoulders and you plant a kiss to his cheek. He gives you a sigh and rubs his eyes.
“So… my ex and I were each other’s like. First serious relationship,” he begins, and he absolutely hates how invested you already look. “I mean, we were together for nine months, it was the first time someone wanted to know me and not just to get closer to Tooru.”
The idea of that makes you pout slightly; in your own dating, you’d never had thought about people using him to get closer to Oikawa, you’d always known you wanted him. You nod and bring your hand up to card his thick locks, something he’d always found comfort in.
You also remember how heart broken you were when you'd seen and heard that they were together. How Hanamaki tried relentlessly to cheer you up, build you back up, and how guilty you felt for not being happy for your friend. You'd been there first to want him and not Tooru, but it was in vain.
Besides, you were together now; in your head, there's no reason why he should be nervous to tell you.
He angles his head into your touch, "and... and they were good to me! They trusted me and they appreciated all I would do, and at the end of the day, they were the ones who I always could turn to."
"Hey! You could've turned to me!"
"This isn't about you," he scolds playfully. "Anyways. They loved me until the end, and if I didn't ruin shit, we may have still been together."
"Yeah, that doesn't make me feel insecure at all," you grumble.
He furrows his brows, but it’s offset with a smirk, "if you'd let me talk and finish the story, you wouldn't have to feel insecure."
You stay quiet again. He rolls his eyes and pinches the brim of his nose, "then... do you remember Hanamaki's party for going into third year?"
"Yeah." It was a party you'd remembered being fine until Oikawa had to drive a sickened Hajime home, and you'd blown up his phone in worry. Hanamaki called you obsessive. You put a thumbtack in his sneaker.
"Right... so," he rubs the back of his neck nervously. "So we kinda... snuck away to be alone and use those stupid lovers affirmations and... and then things got touchy and kissy and-"
"Gagging."
"Interrupting again," he snips before composing himself again. Now, he's really starting to fidget, and you're starting to have an uneasy feeling about it. "And we started kissing and out hands started to wander and..." he pauses and looks at you, half expecting you to interrupt, but at the sight of you completely immersed, he grimaces.
“And… and they moaned my name… and then, when I was uhm… I was supposed to moan theirs…”
“Oh my god, did you moan Oikawa’s?” You gasp, already falling to a fit of laughter from your anxiety. It was a common joke in the group that Tooru and Hajime were secretly together but dated others so they wouldn’t seem suspicious, but to think it could be true caused you to absolutely cackle. “No wonder they dumped you!I can see it now! Just a soft little t-tooru-“
“Fuck off, I moaned your name, asshole.”
Your laughter stopped immediately, your face dropping to one of absolute surprise. The smugness that dripped from your tone now seems to reside in his, and he smirks softly as he crosses his arms.
“Not so funny now, is it?”
“You… you said my name?”
“Yeah,” he scoffs. He adverts his gaze and tries to fight the blush splaying on his face, “I’ve wanted you since the beginning.”
“Why did you never like… try?”
“I thought you liked Oikawa.”
“Why would you think I like Oikawa!”
“You spent so much time with him!”
“Because I was too shy to be near you, stupid!”
The both of your chests heave at your confessions, before you break the silence with a few breathy giggles.
"Fuck, man," you chuckle, curling your frame into his side. "We truly were so dumb."
"You don't know how hard Oikawa tried to convince me to confess to you."
"Same!" You say, beaming. "I always told him there was no shot you would've had feelings for me."
He doesn't admit it, but you know Hajime had a similar experience with his friend. The silence falls much more comfortable than it had been before, and with your attention turned back to the TV, you flick your gaze back briefly when you feel Hajime reach for his phone. "Whatcha doin'?"
He smirks, "gonna text Oikawa that I just realized you had a crush on me in high school."
You snort, "you're evil. You trying to give him an aneurism?"
"Maybe."
You pause. Then you paw for your own phone to text the same victim.
Might as well make him bitter, together.

Tumblr media
Oikawa couldn’t remember when was the last time he got really drunk but it feels like a very long time now that this time it feels like it was his first. The alcohol surging through his veins, anything from his point of view is blurry, the light of the party seems dimming and his body feels heavy with every step he takes.
Ah! Right, it’s his birthday and his highschool volleyball teammates planned to celebrate this special occasion is by dragging him to the club. It was fun, at first at least but now, there’s nothing more he wants but to go home… he swears he’s forgetting something—
“Hey baby,” a hand grabbed his arm and Oikawa suddenly jolted up awake, head is still in pain but he made an effort to look at the blurry woman in front of him. “You look like you’ve had your fun, c’mon, let’s get you home—“
“Don’t— don’t touch me.” He croaks out, prying his arm away from this unfamiliar (somehow familliar) woman in front of him, he looked away from her, looking at everything but her. “I have a girlfriend.” Oikawa prides in himself that he’s not a cheater like everybody paints him to be (absolutely loving the surprise look sent to his way when they find out they’re six years together.) and the bruenette would rather die if he lost the woman he loves with all his heart. The woman distanced herself, hand coming up to a mock defense, he turned his head to look at her and could see her red painted lips turned to a cheeky smile as she tilts her head to the side. “Oh yeah?” She mused. “What does your girlfriend looks like?”
Almost like an instinct, he reached out for his phone and opened the small device in his hand, the picture of a beautiful woman wearing silk pajamas, hair is all a mess and she’s eating messily of a cup noodle, looking innocently at the camera came to his view. God he loves this picture of his love so much that even in his drunken state a warm honest smile made it’s way to his lips.
“Here!” He boasted, pushing the phone to the woman to make her look at the lockscreen. “That’s—“ he stops, burping because of the alcohol before continuing; “that’s my girl!”
“I—“ she started, he could painstakingly make out her appearance slowly. “I told you to delete that picture, Tooru!”
Oikawa Tooru blinks. Again and again. Until his view became clearer slowly. Then it clicks, his breath knocked out of his chest to see his beautiful girlfriend wearing the dress he brought out for her, looking absolutely gorgeous and he swears this is the best birthday gift he could ever ask for.
“My baby.” He cooed, tucking back his phone in the pocket of his jeans and his hands finds her waist, pulling her close to him and immediately (Name) wraps her arm around his neck, a beaming smile sent to his way and his day suddenly ten times more special. He pressed his lips to her soft ones. “My one and only.” Another kiss to her nose. “My love of my life.” Another kiss to her jaw and (Name) couldn’t help but giggle at his affections.
Oikawa hummed, burrying his head to the crook of her neck, swaying slowly at the music with her. “I’m so happy you’re here with me.” He murmurs, wanting nothing more but to be in her arm in this moment. “I’m such a lucky man—“ he whines, feeling dramatic because of the alcohol but (Name) knows better, her man is always dramatic every single day. “you have no idea.”
“I love you too.” (Name) responds, a giddy smile om her lips and before Oikawa could even respond to her, he feels like throwing up that he pulls away, afraid staining her dress because he didn’t drank responsibly and whines. “I just wanna make out with you in the middle of the dance floor, baby.”
“I know, but how about a better idea and finish whatever plan you have for us back home?” (Name) suggested with a teasing smirk and Oikawa loves her and her ideas.
Somewhere in the corner of the club…
The three looked at eachother, Makki sent a cheeky look at the two and Matsukawa grinned.
“Oikawa’s getting it tonight—“
“Alright!” Iwaizumi slammed down his drink and point at the two with a knowing look. “How about you two get your asses out there and get a girlfriend, hm?”

"do you remember the day we first met?"
you're laying upside down on iwaizumi's bed, head dangling off the edge and you grin when you hear him grunt, pulling away from his desk and turning over to you.
he says, "shouldn't you be studying?"
you roll your eyes, and sit upright, legs crossed and back straight, "i'll take that as a no then,"
he frowns, shaking his head, "no, not a no,"
you raise your eyebrows at him, and iwaizumi stares at you, and there's this moment where the two of you are just staring at each other, not sure what to do or say.
you clear you throat, shaking your head and dismissing the moment, "so, do you remember?"
"sure," he says, "why not,"
you squint your eyes at him, "you don't remember, do you?"
iwaizumi smirks, leaning back in his chair, "i never said that,"
you let out a whine, "oh, come on."
he laughs, "okay, i remember,"
you slump back down in bed, "thank god,"
you can't see him, but you know he's grinning sheepishly when he asks, "do you remember?"
you scoff, acting offended, "of course, jerk."
"so, you remember the park and the swings?"
"yeah?"
"you remember hitting me with the swing?"
you sit upright, glaring at him, "we swore never to talk about that,"
iwaizumi crosses his arms and you know he's getting cocky, from the glint in his eyes to the smirk on his lips, "well, that is how we met,"
"i bought you ice cream as an apology," you scowl, wagging a finger at him, "and, in my defense, you were the idiot who was stupid enough to walk in front a person who's clearly going high speed on a swing,"
he ponders it for a moment before shrugging, "okay, fair enough."
you smirk, clearly guaranteeing your win, "see?"
"so then," he says, "why did you freak out so much when you saw me at school?" and you know he's teasing you, with the usage of his tone and the smirk he throws at you, and you pout.
"well, what am i supposed to say to a person i hit with the swing the other day?" you say, "especially when i don't know that i'd ever meet them again,"
iwaizumi hums, "okay,"
"don't you use that tone on me," you warn. he's using the 'i forgive you, but not really,' kind of tone, and you know he's only teasing you, and you know that this is just two best friends bickering at each other.
he chuckles and you glare at him, "funny, how our story isn't the typical 'i met you and i fell in love with you' "
you stare at him, "what?"
"not a typical love story,"
you laugh nervously, "what — i mean, what?"
iwaizumi deadpans at you, gaze completely serious but you see the hint of a smirk creepy on his lips and you grunt, grabbing a pillow and throwing it at his face.
and he only laughs, "please, you are so in love with me,"
you grab another pillow and throw it at him, "shut up,"
and you're only doing it to distract him away from the blush on you face, you don't really mind if he thinks that you're in love with him, whether it being as a joke or seriously, because it was only true.
he says, "no,"
you scowl, "bitch."
"dumbass."
you scoff, "touche,"
"try me,"
you only stare at him with an 'i'm so done with you right now' look and he rolls his eyes at you, before moving back to his desk, returning his attention to his studies.
"okay so," you say, "so what if i'm in love with you, hypothetically."
"hypothetically?" he scoffs a laugh, "well, i might as well be in love with you too,"
"okay," you say, slumping back down in bed and getting comfortable, throwing iwaizumi a smile, "good to know,"

Reacting to Puppy Dog Eyes w/ Akaashi, Iwaizumi, Tsukishima, and Sakusa
- oh lord please don’t do this to them, you’re gonna make them act tf up
Warning(s): none
-------------------------------
Akaashi Keiji
- “What?” “Y/N, order an actual meal before you get dessert.”
- Sends you an even stare as you lift your head up from the menu with an innocent expression, tilting your head as if you don’t know what he’s talking about
- “What makes you say-” “You’re on the wrong page.”
- Sighs as you physically deflate, shoulders sinking downwards as a pout begins to form on your lips
- “But I’m not even that hungry-” “If you eat sugar on an empty stomach then it’s going to hurt later.”
- the mother in him really jumped out I see
- watches as you dejectedly look down at the menu, puffing your cheeks out before the waiter approaches the table, and he sighs but still expects you to pick something out
- so when he’s about to order for the two of you, you decide to bring out the secret weapon
- “Yes, one tonkatsu ramen and-” as he closes his menu, lifting his eyes from the page before stilling in place
- your eyes were watering a little bit, looking at him in a begging gesture with a please? glint in your pupils before he pinches the bridge of his nose with a sigh
- “Sir?” “....and a parfait with macarons please.”
- narrows his eyes at you as your back straightens, smile growing on your face before you pick up his hand resting on the table once the waiter leaves
- “Don’t be mad....Keiji?”
- is literally taking a moment to steady his breathing from the twinge in his chest, absolutely hating seeing you sad
- “Just give me a minute...we’ll share each dish, okay? Make sure to eat some of the hot food too.” he reasons, and your eyes brighten as one side of his lips tilt slightly upwards
- “You’re whipped.” As you kiss his knuckle playfully, and he rolls his eyes with the smallest of smiles, moving his hand to stroke your cheek gently before pinching it lightly, causing you to whine
- “I can’t believe you’ve got me wrapped around your little finger, love.”
Iwaizumi Hajime
-  You don’t use it on him often because he doesn’t like other people seeing the look you give him because he’s a protective boi
- At least until you have to take drastic measures
- “Those things are rigged, Y/N.” He’s leaning against the brick wall next to the stall as you fiddle with the darts in your hand, an adorable look on your face as Iwa watches you enjoy yourself
- “It is not!” Iwa waves off the guy running the booth, more interested to see how you’ll do in the game as he shoves his hands in his pockets
- so when you lose by just a few targets, he can see the defeatedness in your stance before your eyes flit over to the really big polar bear plushie you were aiming for
- holds back his snort before you look over at him with the eyes that make his breath catch in his throat, and Iwa glares at you immediately with a heat forming in his cheeks
- “Do you need help, miss?” “Hm? Uh...”
- but he’s already walking over, lightly shoving the man’s hand who was running the booth off your shoulder with a competitive aura around him
- “Give me darts.” his tone drops to a deadly one, one half of him pissed off that this guy had the nerve to touch you in front of him while the other half of him needs to wipe that look out your eyes
- so in fifteen seconds he’s hit all six darts dead in the center, having unleashed all the angered determination inside of him before lazily pointing to the prize on the top shelf
- sends one last glare to the guy before giving you the bear, plopping it over your face as he strolls past you with a pink tint to his cheeks
- “Here. Now stop pouting.” “You didn’t have to...”
- Spins on his heel with a scoff, and you blink up at him innocently with your new plushie hugged to your chest as you hide your smile in the softness
- “I didn’t have to? Really?” Is about to dig into you for making him feel guilty for absolutely no reason before you kiss his cheek, diminishing his resolve as Iwa’s voice falters
- brings a hand to his neck as you hold your plushie with one arm, tugging on his sleeve so he could lead the way with the tips of his ears pink
- “Thank you!” “Yeah yeah...just don’t do that, will you?”
Tsukishima Kei
- “No.” “What? I didn’t even say anything!”
- 100% the one to pretend to be the least effected by it
- Narrows his eyes slightly as an innocent smile graces your features, and he lets go of your hand to stand in front of you with his arms crossed
- “Whatever you’re thinking, no.” as he thumbs your forehead, and you whine a little bit before blinking up innocently
- he braces himself lmfao oh shit here it comes
- “Tsukki...can we ride the ferris wheel?”
- how you gonna be that tall and not like heights make it make sense
- stiffens immediately as your eyes lilt downwards sadly, but his gaze remains unaffected as he scoffs, rolling his eyes as you visibly wilt
- “Come on, loser.” as he tugs you towards the ticket booth, and you perk up before a teasing tone emerges in your voice “Where are we going?”
- “The fucking zoo.” “Tsukki!”
- ignores you as he purchases the tickets, pretending not to see your sad reaction to his sarcasm before gently pushing you a long
- “I’m gonna regret this.” He mumbles once you’re both seated, and you bounce up and down in your seat excitedly as he rests his palm against his mouth, hazel eyes staring at you seriously
- Looks away when you look over at him, and you slip into the seat next to him as he warns you that it’s dangerous
- “Hold my hand?” “You’re the one who wanted to do this.”
- Still allows you to hold his hand anyways as the carriage lifts into the sky, and you lean your head on his shoulder
- Glances down at you with a warmth in his chest before flicking the side of your head
- “What was that for-?!” “Shut up.”
- gently kisses the spot where he flicked quickly, going back to staring out the window as he holds your hand just a little bit tighter
- Fuck. He was too in deep.
Sakusa Kiyoomi
- Get ready to be bluntly rejected to your face lmfao
- “Don’t you like being clean?” “That doesn’t mean I want to wear a damn face mask.”
- You puff your cheeks out, crossing your arms as Sakusa meets you with an even stare, wearing grey sweatpants and a fitted black shirt as his hoodie draped loosely over your figure
- The rare nights when Sakusa was home on time he’d always come back to find one of his articles of clothing gone awh
- “Please?” You tilt your head slightly, casting him a puppy dog stare before Sakusa actually scoffs, shaking his head no as you sigh defeatedly
- “Fine. I’m gonna take a shower, you should reheat dinner if you’re hungry.” You say, fighting to keep the sad out of your voice as Sakusa watches you stalk off with a pout to the bathroom
- Stares after you for a second before sighing deeply, tilting his head back with a hand on his forehead knowing damn well what was about to happen
- so imagine your surprise when you emerge, towel tightly wrapped around your body to see Sakusa holding an opened face mask away from his body by the edge like it was the most horrid thing on earth
- “Kiyoomi?” “Shit-!”
- almost drops it as he looks up at you, irritation evident on his face as you realize what he was trying to do before perking up and walking over to him
- flinches when you softly sit him down, gently applying the facemask to his skin with a smile
- “You didn’t have to, you know.” “Well when you look so damn sad all the time do I really have a choice?”
- “Hey.” “What?”
- His snappy tone is diminished as you finish applying the mask, leaning downwards to cup his face through the moist cloth before kissing him lovingly, to which he responds by wrapping an arm around your waist to tug you closer
- “Kiyoomi, do you want to apply mine?” “Seriously? There’s nothing else you want to do right now?”
- Deadpans you as he tugs you onto his lap, unamused as you giggle, shaking your head no
- “Nope. We have to wait fifteen minutes anyway.” “But-”
- “Fifteen minutes, Kiyoomi.”
- Rolls his eyes, kissing you deeply as you giggle into the kiss, feeling the moisture of his mask as his eyes seem to darken
- “Trust me, there’s a lot I can do in fifteen minutes. Now come here, get your damn mask on.”

FIELD OF FLOWERS.
pov: you’re a princess sent to the countryside after an internal conflict, leaving you in the company of a certain farmer
[ pre reading notes ] farmer! kita x fem! reader. princess! reader. fluff. royal au. romance. slight angst. strangers to friends. unedited and written on a whim bcos of inarizaki brainrot. its not much but i am very proud of this :>
[ song ] funeral procession at the seashore by ichiko aoba
Tumblr media
Hours passed by ever since you watched the scenery of tall towers and bustling town markets transition to blades of grass, followed by endless line of trees – yet it never once eased your discomfort the farther you travelled from your castle. How could you, anyway? After finding out of the dangers your entire family faced due to recent conflicts over your future coronation, how exactly was one supposed to stomach the fact things turned from worse to worst? Now, you were stuck in this limousine, surrounded by heavily armed guards who never once took their eyes off the dark, silent surroundings.
“Where are we going?”
Iwaizumi Hajime, a childhood friend and entrusted guard of yours, finally spoke for the first time in the long stretching silence. “There’s a kind farmer here your family trusts. You should be safe with him, Your Highness.”
You looked back out the scenery. Nothing but tall mountains and fields of corn row could be seen under the midnight sky. To say it was an entirely different world from the castle you grew up in was an understatement, but that wasn’t your biggest concern. It was the fact it was real. It was real that you couldn’t go back to how things were the way before, and tears sprung in your eyes at the same time your chest tightened.
“How-how long do I have to stay here?” you croaked out, nails digging into the black tights they forced you to wear for disguise and easy escape. “What about Mother and Father? Have you ensured their safety? Please don’t tell me you’re going to leave them at the palace when—”
“The orders given to us were to prioritize your safety. Your Highness. You will be safe here. Until then, wait further instructions given by your parents,” said Iwaizumi in his usual curt, clipped tone. When the car stopped and reach its destination, Iwaizumu left first, offering his hand to guide you out into the gravelly pavement. “They expect you to live and be safe and healthy until you can return. Fulfill your duty until then.”
“Will I able to write to them, at least?”
“It’s best to cut off communication with them for now, Princess. We cannot risk your enemies finding out where you are,” seeing nothing but Iwaizumi’s back, you follow him with blind trust until you reach a quaint, simple house smack in the middle of nowhere.
Standing outside the door with an imposing nature, you meet the gaze of a silver and dark haired man, his brown eyes scanning your features with a blank look on his face. Despite not being as tall or large as Iwaizumu, the man held a intimidating aura to him. You didn’t know whether it was the bulging muscles from under his cashmere sweater, the lack of a smile on his face, or maybe it was simply you on the edge of your seat upon having your world flipped upside down.
“Kita-san.”
“An honour to meet you, Sir,” this man, Kita, shook Iwaizumi’s hand before he found you trembling under your guard’s back. “And you as well, Your Highness.”
Precise. Controlled. Muted and unreadable, yet undeniably powerful in his own way – these were just one of the first things that came to mind when you met him.
Stepping aside to let you see Kita under the faint lights coming from his house, Iwaizumi turned to you. “This is Kita Shinsuke. He’s been supplying the kingdom’s needs for a few years now and a loyal citizen to the Crown. From now on, you shall be placed under his care.”
“Please do not worry, Your Highness. I will take care of you.”
Iwaizumi nodded in appreciation, sending you one last glance only to see that you’ve completely frozen on the spot. He couldn’t blame you and neither could Kita. Both of them could only imagine how hard it must be for you to be separated from your family without warning, only to end up deep in the countryside with a man you never met before. Granted that Kita was someone your family trusted, you still couldn’t help but sob a little when Iwaizumi patted your shoulders. “We need to leave now, Kita-san. The Princess is in your hands.”
Just like that, he’d left. The car disappeared into the dead of the night until the headlights could no longer be spotted as flickering dots in the distance. Iwaizumi was gone, on his way to return to the castle, while you remained here. In a stranger’s farm. In the presence of someone guiding you back to his house where he was careful to touch you the entire time.
At least he’s nice, you thought to yourself inwardly, watching at the corner of your eyes as Kita reappeared from his kitchen.
“Here. Have some warm tea – chamomile to help ease your nerves,” a cup of steaming liquid was placed in front of you, the scent of tea soon relaxing the tension in your shoulders. Undeniably, you sat stiffly, yet the made the effort to reach out for the tea anyway knowing full well you needed it.
Sat across you, Kita rubbed his palms on his knees. “Is there anything I can do for you, Your Highness? We don’t have much, but I would be ready to provide everything you need—”
“—I want to go back home.”
“I’m afraid that’s not possible, Princess.”
Your shoulders slumped in defeat. That much you knew already, though surely it wouldn’t be too much of a sin to wish? You could’ve at least heard your parents said goodbye. That wasn’t too much to ask for, yet your loved ones were miles away from you.
As if reading the troubles written all over your face, Kita stood up and glanced at you over his shoulder. “Pardon me for this is all I have. I know it’s nothing compared to your lavish life in the castle, but I’ve seen to it you are comfortable in your stay here. If you please, follow me into your room.”
“But this is your place,” you noted after a while, taking notice of the knick knacks and his faint scent of something mixed with vanilla and mint lingering all over the room. Peeking at him under your lashes, you played with your fingers. “Where will you sleep?”
“The sofa, Your Highness.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, of course,” he nodded in reassurance, pointing to you all the lights and his closet filled with spare blankets should you need any. Once he was sure you’d gotten the hang of it – which wasn’t much since his room wasn’t particularly big – Kita planted himself outside your door, making you notice the faint dark circles lining his eyes. “Sleep well, Princess. I’m only outside if you need me; don’t hesitate to ask for anything.”
I only want to come back home...but you knew that wasn’t possible, so you kept your mouth shut and bid him good night.
Going to bed also seemed easier than you expected it to be. Not only was Kita’s bed soft and comfortable, the sheets smelled a lot like him. Comforting in a sense, since you weren’t completely alone. You believed this much would help you fall asleep easier after travelling for hours all the way here, until you found yourself wide awake even as crickets chirped outside and the lights outside your room had went out long ago.
With a deep sigh, you threw an arm over your face before sneaking out in tip-toed carefulness. In the living room, Kita seemed to be deep in slumber. His long legs dangled off the couch and he hugged a pillow to his chest, a small frown on his face while his eyes twitched; a sign Kita dreamt.
Now that you looked closer, you realized he was actually handsome. Very handsome.
Strong brows, soft-looking hair, sharp cheekbones and devilishly sharp features – you’d have easily mistaken him for a prince were you not on a farm half an hour away from the closest town.
Resisting the urge to brush his bangs away from his face, you spun on your heel and left for the balcony. Fresh breeze kissed each exposed parts of your skin as you sat there, gaze lifted towards the shimmering stars dotting the sky like it was a canvas, knees hugged to your chest the whole to keep yourself warm. You stayed there for who knew how long, tracing the constellations your father taught you with the tips of your finger when the floorboards creaked, and appeared Kita who sleepily rubbed his eyes.
“Kita-san! I didn’t want to wake you so I stayed out here...” you trailed off, eyes wide with guilt when he draped a thick blanket over your shoulders.
“It’s fine, Your Highness. I had a feeling you’d not be able to sleep on the first night and stayed alert, just in case,” Kita’s deep voice was heavily laced with sleep, the sound attractive and hoarse if you said so yourself. However, your sparking attraction quickly died down when he sat next to you, his eyes narrowed suspiciously at the sky. “Is the view any different from the castle? You’re staring at the sky like it holds wonders you’d never seen before.”
You smiled at his question.
“When you grow up in a grand castle where you’re surrounded by everything you could ever ask for, things like the night sky don’t interest you anymore,” you confessed, “I always looked ahead but never upwards. It’s a shame, Kita-san...that I’ve reached this age without ever appreciating the beauty of it all,” bitter regret coated your tongue the whole time you spoke, and you were sure Kita gazed at you in curiosity despite staying mute. You noticed he wasn’t much of a talker, something you weren’t sure was a good thing or not. For sure, though, the air became awkward and you cleared your throat, lamely gesturing to the plains of field before you. “Your farm is also nice. It reminds me of the royal gardens.”
“I’m sure my humble farm is far from it.”
“Both are tended to with love,” you stated, eyebrows furrowing when you realized something. That if Kita hadn’t come here, you’d end up listening to your own imposing thoughts and the chirping of insects all night long. He had no neighbours, no friends, no signal or even internet that you couldn’t refrain yourself from asking – “Do you ever get lonely here, Kita-san?”
His answer surprised you; almost as if he’d been expecting you to voice it out the moment you came.
“Not really. I like the peace and quiet; I wouldn’t have it any other way nor would I trade this life for anything else,” Kita murmured with a sort of contentment you could only dream of. Mouth open to say something, you were cut off when Kita was on his feet the next instant, padding back inside the house before you could get a word in. “I’ll go get you some warm milk, Your Highness. It should help you fall asleep better.”
“Even away from the castle, I’m not allowed to stay up later for bed?” you teased, and you watched as Kita shakes his head with the ghost of a smile.
“You’ve travelled a long way, Your Highness. You need to rest and take care of yourself. Looking after one’s health is a virtue.”
“I can see why my parents chose you to look after me...” you mused more to yourself than anyone else. Following him inside the house where you’re greeted by warmth, you trailed after him, watching with full interest as Kita warmed you a glass of milk with his arms crossed against his chest. Even from this proximity, he smelled good...
Nearly bringing a hand to slap your face to get rid of the thoughts, you forced a smile to your face instead. “Kita-san, can I ask you something?”
“Of course, Your Highness. Anything.”
“Can you stop addressing me formally?” you scratched the back of your head, “If I am to be truly myself for once, I’d like to know what it feels like to not be a princess.”
Kita pursed his lips for a second, glancing at you with hesitation before he gives in to your puppy smile and bright eyes. Sighing to himself, Kita turned off the kettle and served you the milk, biting down hard on his teeth to stop himself from smiling.
“Sure...Y/N.”

The farm wasn’t as bad as you originally thought it would be. It actually felt nice to not be woken up by a group of servants barging into your room to prepare you for the day. Sure, there was Kita’s rooster nearly tearing off your ear drums every morning, but the freedom was more than welcomed. Now that you’d both came to an agreement (which came from a lot of pleading that paid off on your side) that Kita was to treat you like a friend than a royal family member he had to take care of, you happily frolicked in the fields during the duration of your stay. Sundress flowing in the wind as you rode a bicycle for the first time, learning how to wash dishes and peel your own food, you felt oddly...more human than you’d ever been.
It was like you were an entirely new person, though it also made sense Kita would not adapt to the situation as fast as you did.
Despite your insistence you could look after yourself, he still made sure to leave notes and a prepared meal each time you woke up. Similar to the at the fields working – kita note that he left on the table along with your favourite food, Kita was already up at the crack of dawn to work.
As much as you appreciated his hospitality towards you, you felt bad you haven’t been doing anything productive. Which is why you slipped on the extra pair of boots he had, arms nestled in gloves and a grin as bright as the morning soon while you walked up to Kita. Crouched as he tended to something, he peered at you from under his hat, gloved hands shading the harsh sunlight blocking his view from you.
“You’re up early,” he greeted, “Did you not see the food and notes I left you?”
“I did, I was just...I feel bad I’m not really doing anything here while you work tirelessly day and night.”
“I’m a farmer; it’s my job.”
Pouting, you fell into a half squat beside him. “Yes, but what am I supposed to do here? You can’t be the only one working while I – I don’t know – just stare into nothingness. I planned on tidying the house up too so I’m at least useful but there’s nothing to clean. Your house is spotless.”
Kita paused in whatever he was doing for a moment. “You don’t have to be ‘useful’ to me, Y/N. That’s not what you’re here for. You came here for safety and as an escape,” he reminded you, “You are free to do as you please, just don’t roam too far for both our sakes.”
“Free to do as I please, you say?” you asked, and Kita replied in a hum.
Smiling to yourself, you inched closer to Kita and mimicked his actions of tugging at the roots – maybe, you really had no idea exactly what you were supposed to do – proud at your achievements. You remained unaware of how Kita had totally stopped farming, his full attention now on you while stifling his amused chuckles.
“What are you doing?”
“Helping you!”
“Do you know how to tend to crops?”
“Well...no, but I could learn!” you replied enthusiastically, only to accidentally rip out a root and for soil to splatter all over your clothes. A grimace makes it way onto your face, hands raised in surrender. “Okay, maybe I’m not helping as I thought I would. I’m sorry...”
“It’s fine. It’s nothing that can’t grow back when time comes,” Kita brushed off the dirt caking your shirt and jeans, patient as he offered, “How about this? If you really want to do something, then you accompany me here. Hold the basket and hand me my tools when needed. Then, you tell me stories of your greatest memories on the castle. I’d love to hear about it.”
“Yes, I’d love to do so! Oh my gosh, I have so many things to tell you! Listen, so back at the palace, we had sunflowers that...”
Kita listened to you ramble on and on. It was his idea to distract you from your boredom and sadness for being away from the castle by letting you ‘help’ him, though he’d be lying if he said he didn’t enjoy the stories you told. Not that he was lying when he said he loved the peace and quiet, but Kita was also human. He, too, like everyone else enjoyed the company of others every and now then. Maybe he never realized how much he’d gotten used to the silence and endless routine of his life until you came and brought joyous music to his life – the sound of your bubbly laughter each time you recalled a nice memory like music to his ears.
When the sun began to set and both of you had aching muscles from a long day of work, you retired under his favourite tree, watching the sunset as you drank lemonade. Kita ran back inside to fetch the cherry pie he baked the day before for your dinner, wiping off the sweat from your bodies before digging in.
He had a routine he followed strictly. Even when eating, Kita was entirely disciplined. He wouldn’t eat unless he’d done his prayers and said his thanks, always giving you the first servings along with a drink before he fends for himself.
To say it was peaceful would be an understatement.
There was a certain sense of serenity in being bathed under the golden sunset, to be serenaded by the breeze and to be warmed by a longing for nature you never felt before. But most of all, you loved Kita’s presence. He was as firm as he was kind, gentle yet strict when needed be. You could only thank him a good amount of time before he was asking you to stop because you were welcome and always will be welcome, causing you to laugh when he resorted to slapping a palm over your lips.
“So how is your first week here in the farm so far?” he asked instead, glaring at you playfully to see if you’d babble on and on again. “Proud to say you’ve experienced a bit of the farming life?”
“I’m liking this farming life! In fact, I can see myself staying here someday.”
The both of you fell silent for a while. You knew it wasn’t possible, and so did Kita, but he indulged you anyway by pointing to one side of the field. With his body being impossibly close to you, you couldn’t help but stop breathing for a moment to admire his handsomeness. To be drunk in his intoxicating scent of something vanilla yet earthy – so Kita that no other man could probably make the scent as alluring as he could. “See that? One day, that patch of land can be all yours. You’re free to plant all the fruits and vegetables you want. You’ll never have to go to the market anymore.”
“Ooh, I’ve never been to the market, but it sounds nice to grow my own food in my backyard!” you clapped your hands together, beaming at him. “Can I have a horse and a cow too? Maybe chickens!”
Kita patted your head. “You can have whatever you want as long as you work hard for it.”
Blinking in surprise at his words, you let that sink in. You can have whatever you want as long as you work hard for it. Your whole life, you’d known all you needed to do was lift a finger before whatever you wanted would appear right before you. Not because you earned it or there was a price to pay, but simply because you were a princess. What you wanted, you got. It had always been that way – until you met Kita.
You liked the idea of working hard to earn something.
Raising your pinky to him hopefully, you chuckled at the thought. “We’ll be co-farmers then, Kita-san?”
If Kita was beautiful before, nothing could compare to the sound of his laughter. It was pure, innocent, genuine. Hearing him laugh, seeing the way his eyes crinkled into half moons as his chest vibrated in pure glee – you ended up sharing a special memory you’d treasure for the rest of your life. “Sure. I’ll make sure to drop by your house to talk to you about which cheese is best.”
“The grandest of conversations.”
“The most intellectual of exchanges.”
Tumblr media
Before you knew it, months had passed by ever since you came to Kita’s farm. You still hadn’t heard a single thing about your parents nor did they ever broadcast what happened back at the Kingdom in the radio, so you remained ignorant of everything going on. If not for Kita reminding you each day that Iwaizumi promised he’d come back and you needed to trust him on that, you would’ve fallen into despair. And along with you getting accustomed to the farm to a point you felt squeamish over the idea of returning to the castle where you’d be swarmed by servants once more, your days in the farm passed by in a blur.
“I’m not sure this a good idea.”
“Oh come on, Shinsuke! You’ve lived here for years and you’re telling me you’ve never taken a light night swim?”
“In a lake? No, I have not. Have you?”
You winced – Kita always was effortless in reading you. “In a swimming pool, but come on, we only live once! There’s nothing wrong with doing fun things every now and then. Who knows? Maybe someday you can even tell your grandchildren about how you took a dip in freezing water!”
Kita had mentioned before how he’d love to have a family of his own. You both stayed up late one night to stargaze when you got to talk about your hopes and dreams – yours with becoming a good Queen for the kingdom, and him with a simple wish of getting married and becoming a dad. The look on his face then nearly made you fall in love, whatnot with adoration shimmering in his eyes. Kita then told you on how much he’d love to run on the fields with his children, or to pamper his wife with her favourite flowers. I’ll make an entire garden just for her, he once said.
Naturally, you supported him. Half a year of living with him was enough proof you could tell how great of a father he’d be, even more so as the perfect, doting husband anyone could ask for.
“My grandkids will think I am odd.”
“No, your grandkids will think you’re fun and daring,” you insisted, dragging him into the direction of the lake with his rough, calloused hands linked with your soft ones. “Come on, this’ll be fun!”
“If you get sick, I will not attend the royal court held responsibility for this.”
“Shh!” you giggled, succeeding in your mission because now, Kita was muttering regrets under his breath before you were both shedding off your clothing, left only in your underwear. You were the first to jump in the water with an audible screech, rising up from the surface with flailing arms. “Shinsuke, that’s so cold!”
Kita rolled his eyes at you. Always the more sensible one, Kita dove into the water properly before swimming closer to you. “Come here. I’ll warm you up,” he offered his arms, to which you eagerly swam towards to. Now flushed to his chest, you shivered onto his hold and laughed at the ridiculousness of the situation. “Better? Actually, don’t answer that, you’re shivering. I told you this was a bad idea.”
“I don’t want to be anywhere, though.”
“You give me a headache, you know that?” Kita cajoled, cupping your freezing cheeks under his touch to warm it up. “You’re actually enjoying this.”
“It’s a lot more exciting than those heated pools we have at home.” Stopping as you realized you still called the castle your home, you’re suddenly reminded of how it’s been half a year. Half a year with Kita meant half a year that your ‘home’ was still unsafe. No news from your parents. Iwaizumi never visited once. Even if that half a year felt like forever already, the both of you knew one day this would have to end, which is why you clutched onto Kita desperately, thankful from the water that your tears were concealed.
“Shinsuke, can I tell you something?”
“Of course. You don’t even have to ask.” From the sound of his voice, you had an inkling he already knew what you were going to say. Nevertheless, your voice trembled, your hold on him not loosening once.
“I’m glad I met you.”
You felt Kita smile’s above your head. “I feel the same way, Y/N,” he muttered, the sadness behind his words unconcealed and rippling with the slight waves of the water. “I’m glad we met,” Somehow, it felt like a goodbye. Even when he patted your head, the only thing you could feel was the desperation to hold on to this moment resonating between the two of you. “We should really return. You’re going to catch a cold at this point, and so will I. I still need to get up early for work tomorrow.”
“You say that as if we don’t work together.”
“My apologies. I forgot I also need you to pass me my tools.”
“Are you being sarcastic to me, Shinsuke?”
“You’re rubbing off on me. I can’t help it,” he teased back, helping you out of the water and wrapping towels around your bodies. “Come on. Let’s go back.”
Go back where? You didn’t really know. Maybe you’d never really know. Return home to the palace – if there was anywhere to return to – or return back to Kita’s house where you’d spent most of your beautiful memories with. Whether it’s surprising Kita by sneaking his cook books and maximizing your free range of his fridge, or matching your boots when you swing your linked hands together in the farm, you didn’t want to leave. For once, you wanted to forget of your title, of your duties. You longed to be selfish where you could live out Kita’s dream with him in this beautiful farm where he spends hours picking the perfect flower for you, and in turn you learn to properly distinguish between the tools he needed.
You wanted to stay.
So when the next day arose and you heard voices from the living room, you heart sank.  “Shin...suke?” your mouth fell dry at the sight of Kita and a taller man conversing in hushed whispers, your suspicions only confirmed when the dark-haired man finally turned your way. “Iwaizumi-san. You’re back.”
“Your Highness, I’m glad you’re safe!” crushing you into a hug, you felt like you’d been transported to the first day you came here. In Iwaizumi’s arms, your gaze met Kita’s – only this time he was no longer sharp or calculating. He was just...empty, his smile forced with no trace of happiness beneath them.
Faster than you’d like, Iwaizumi pulled away and clutched onto your shoulders. “You no longer need to worry, Princess. All the internal conflict’s been resolved and His Majesty has finally issued your return. I’ve come here to take you back home. We’ve all been waiting for you.”
“Oh...”
“I already packed your bags for you, Your Highness. Your car is ready as well.”
“Shinsuke,” you called out when he gently pushed your bags your way, “I...I don’t—” Kita silenced you with a firm look; the look that said don’t. Don’t do it, don’t call out his name, don’t ask to stay any longer because now was the time to wake up from the reality that you were, and always will be, a princess with her own duties. You couldn’t drag Kita’s wish of a simple life into your issues. So no matter how much it hurt, you placed your formal front all over again, extending your arm for a polite handshake knowing it was all you could ever get. “—Thank you for your kindness, Kita-san. The Royal Family will make sure to repay you for your service and to thank you for loyalty to the Crown.”
Iwaizumi bowed beside you. “On behalf of His Majesty, I express the Palace’s deepest gratitude for protecting the Princess.”
“I was honoured to be trusted with such a task,” Kita clasped his hands with yours, giving it a final squeeze along with a reassuring smile. “Congratulations on your future coronation, Princess. Long live the Queen.”
Until now, you liked to think Kita held magic behind his words. He gave you the strength you needed; the one that would guide you until you had also fulfilled your own dreams, the entire world at the palm of your hands yet the one person you longed for the most far away. Because just as this crown rested heavy on your head, so did Kita’s polite smile from somewhere in the background weighed ponderous on your heart.
He travelled all the way to the city for your coronation. Kita spent hours in the cramped buses and long rides of train stations just to lay his eyes on you one last time, his hat tipped down in respect. Long live the Queen, was what you believed he said. But in reality, Kita was hiding his smile along with his tears, left only with memories to reminisce as soon he returned to his farm – alone and surrounded by the garden of flowers he made just for you.

Moonlight flooded down from the sky, catching on a few stray clouds here or there to cast faint shadows on the ground underneath it. Millions of stars dotted the night sky, a mirage of faint navies, purples, and white that was breathtaking and eye-catching.
Your balcony was lit up by the moon, paled and white from its bright shine as the polished quartz gleamed and sparkled in the silence of the night. It was late, past midnight as you sat on the ledge of your balcony, (colored) eyes turned toward the sky in wandering thought and want.
Though your eyes were tired from the long day, you couldn’t quite pull them away from the expansive sky above you. There was a myriad of thoughts running through your mind from throughout your day.
Thoughts of important meetings, abrasive and annoying suitors, the kind and sweet woman from the bakery that morning, and even your personal guard.
You just wanted one moment to yourself to escape the pressures from your parents. It wasn’t easy to be a princess, no matter how glorious and perfect your life seemed to be. Every day was filled with stressful demands and even more exhausting people.
Yet glancing at the sky for a few minutes seemed to help ease your mind, even if you wanted nothing more than to escape the confines of your room. Your mind was running so fast that there was no way you could attempt at sleeping, so watching the night shift and glitter was the best option.
It had been almost an hour of sitting on your balcony, quietly thinking to yourself while your legs swung dangerously beneath you. A hefty gust of wind curled up the side of the castle, slamming the door to your balcony shut and leaving you outside.
You freeze in place as you realize that your door is automatically locked from the inside, your heart picking up its pace as you move from your seat to go to the door. Frantic footsteps lead you to the grandiose door, and you move your hands to pull on the silver-colored handle with a few harsh tugs.
No resolve, the door was completely and utterly locked, and you can feel your panic and stress begin to build back up in your body as you begin to pace. You knew no one else would be up at this hour and that there was only one way to get out of your situation that didn’t involve waiting till morning.
Climbing down.
You gulp shakily as you try to will your jittery thoughts and feelings away as you grasp your skirts in one hand and begin to lift your leg over the railing. The pale quartz is cool under your smooth hands, and you silently pray that your grip won’t slide on the slick material.
You maneuver yourself onto the outside of your balcony, your feet firmly placed between the arches on the railing while your hands gripped at where you had been sitting not long ago. In front of you was the mocking and locked balcony door, teasing you about the drop in height behind you toward the ground.
You try to steady your breathing as you once again try to shift, but your head whips around at the sound of footsteps sounding out on the gravel below you. You cease your movements as the footsteps get louder, and you try to shift your weight once again to get more comfortable, but your right foot slides out from underneath you.
A strangled scream falls from your lips, and you hear the footsteps grow rapid as they approach you from the ground. You can hear the faint clang of metal armor rubbing up against itself and you close your eyes in fear as you picture the drop below you.
“Princess, are you alright? What are you doing?” the low and gruff voice comes. A sigh of relief leaves your lips as your foot catches onto something sturdy enough to put weight on, and then your body slightly relaxes at the sound of the familiar voice.
“Iwaizumi! Thank goodness you’re here! My balcony door locked on me and I didn’t want to spend the entire night outside,” you call over your shoulder, albeit your voice was slightly muffled.
You can hear Iwaizumi huff something out under his breath, although you can’t quite make out the words as your grip starts to slacken a little on the grip on the railing. Iwaizumi’s footsteps can be heard again as he positions himself underneath you and says, “How did you think you were getting out of this?”
You roll your eyes in slight annoyance as you call out, “Can we talk about this whenever I’m on the ground?” Iwaizumi sighs loudly and grumbles, “Alright, but no breaking any bones, alright? Your parents will have my head on a platter before a girl flocks around Oikawa.”
You laugh at the low pun, but you can tell that Iwaizumi is grumpy and sleepy because it’s so late in the night. Yet you can tell that he cares by the softer tone in his voice and the gruff way he has of showing affection.
You shift your feet once again as you try to lower yourself, but your hand completely loses its grip on the quartz railing, and you cry out again as you scramble to hold yourself up.
Iwaizumi quickly yells out, “It’s alright, Y/n! Try to quiet down a little bit, I know this is scary but we can’t have the whole fleet of knights coming out here to save you.”
At the end of his words, Iwaizumi unties the leather straps holding his sword at his side and tosses it a few yards away so that neither of you would get hurt. He pulls off his metal gloves and some of the other protective plates on his arms before also tossing them.
Iwaizumi positions himself underneath you once more before he states, “Alright, princess, go ahead and let go, I’ll catch you.”
You glance down at him and you screw your eyes shut tightly, your throat tightening with fear at the drop. You say down to him with a wavery voice, “I don’t believe you! You’ll drop me, I know it!”
Iwaizumi’s face pulls into a scowl, his eyebrows drawing in thought before he replies, “When have I ever lied to you?” Your mouth falls open to shoot back another sassy retort, but a shrill shriek is ripped from your lips as your hands finally give out.
Wind smacks into you from all sides as you quickly fall, and Iwaizumi opens his opens to catch you right as you land on top of him. He catches you fairly well, but your weight and the momentum from the fall causes him to tumble back and onto the hard gravel with you in his arms.
A broken groan falls from Iwaizumi’s lips as you gasp and pant, trying to catch your breath and recenter yourself after the rough landing. Your eyes shoot wide open as you glance down at Iwaizumi who’s face was pulled into a painful frown, his teeth bared in pain.
“Iwaizumi! Oh my goodness, I am so so sorry! Oh my gosh, look at you!” You whimper out as your (colored) eyes begin to scan his features. Your hands move to tenderly grip his face as you look him over for any external injuries, and you flinch when you see a line of red across his cheek.
The scratch isn’t too bad, but there are some gravel chunks that you brush away as gently as you can. Iwaizumi gasps in pain and flinches from your touch, his body still recoiling from the impact with the ground.
“I’m sorry,” you whisper again as worry and concern flash over your features, your eyes softening as you make eye contact with him. You continue to cradle Iwaizumi’s face as his eyes flutter open, and he blinks at you a few times before his vision clears up.
Iwaizumi moves to stop you from continuously checking him over, but he’s too out of breath to stop you, not to mention that he’s enamored by the softness of your hands touching him so tenderly.
Under the light of the moon, a subtle pink glow rests on Iwaizumi’s cheeks as his large hands move to grip your wrists, halting your movements as you regain eye contact with him.
For a minute, it’s just the two of you. Nothing else seemed to matter as you gazed upon the handsome and angled features of your guard. To Iwaizumi, his pains and aches seemed to melt away with the kind and caring look in your eyes as he looked up at you, trying to memorize your features in your close proximity.
Iwaizumi doesn’t mean to look so long, but his hazel-colored orbs linger on your parted lips for a few too many moments. When he looks back up and into your eyes, you’re looking down at him in a slight daze, a far-off look in your eye.
In an instant, you seem to remember where you are, lying on top of Iwaizumi. You quickly start to shuffle toward your feet, scrambling to get off of him as your cheeks start to flush in embarrassment.
“Oh my gosh Iwa, I’m so sorry! I can’t believe I was crushing you, you probably couldn’t breathe! I’m sorry!” You manage to spit out, one hand rest on your face in worry while you offer the other one for him to take.
You help pull him to his feet carefully, and Iwaizumu shakes his head to try to clear his mind of his prior thoughts. His cheeks are still painted red in embarrassment, he thought he was going to kiss you. What was wrong with him?
Iwaizumi just grunts out, “Don’t mention it. I say we keep this nighttime balcony jumping between the two of us.” You giggle at his gruff response and you offer, “Well would you like to go on a walk with me? To shake off the fall?”
The guard just offers his arm to you stiffly, and you frown as you take a hold of it and ask, “Are you sure you’re alright, Iwa? I’m-” “Don’t say you’re sorry. It’s my job to protect you, princess, even if it is against your own stupidity sometimes.”
As the two of you walk over to his discarded sword and armor, your eyes flick over his face for any sights of pain or discomfort. When you don’t see any, you stop him gently, your hands resting on his forearms as you give him a small smile.
Iwaizumi looks away and toward the ground, his cheeks still dusted with a soft blush color. Under the glow of the moon, Iwaizumi’s features are softened, and you can’t help but silently acknowledge how handsome he looked.
You grab a hold of the silver metal pauldrons on his chest, slowly leaning up to press a warm and sweet kiss to his un-injured cheek. As you pull away you whisper, “Thank you for catching me, Hajime. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
When you finally settle your weight back onto the base of your feet, your eyes scan over Iwaizumi’s features. You can’t help but giggle at him when you see the red coating his entire face, your hands tightening their grip on his forearms as you double over with laughter.
In between your giggles, you manage to get out, “How can I make it up to you, Hajime?” The brown-haired guard watches you carefully for a few seconds as you calm your laughter, your eyes wide and twinkling with a playful mischief.
Warm hands wrapping around your waist catch your attention, and before you know it, Iwaizumi is pulling you into a quick but passionate kiss. His lips are warm and smooth against your own, and you let out a soft hum as your eyes flutter shut.
He pulls away after just a moment, holding you close to him before resting his forehead on your own. Iwaizumi smirks down at you and says, “Well how about you don’t go falling out of balconies in the middle of the night, princess? I might not always be around to catch you.”
At that, Iwaizumi rests your hand on his arm again as he ties his sword to his waist and grabs the rest of his armor before leading you off for your walk. He might have said that he might not always be around to catch you, but you both knew that wasn’t true.

Tumblr media
The first time (Name) really had a crush on someone was back then on kindergarten, she couldn’t remember the boy who gave her small flowers every recess anymore.
The second time was when she was in first year of highschool, her third year senior who was a captain of the soccerclub but alas, he had a girlfriend after he graduated, leaving (Name) all pouty and muttering in her class when girls flocked to her sides, showing her a post between the former soccer captain and his pretty girlfriend. “hmp, i’m never having crush again.” Was she said when they teased her for not acting fast.
The third time however…
Her cousin, Iwaizumi Hajime, made sure his words get into her head, drilling them and make sure it’ll never slip out of her mind that she’s not going to visit him in his practice match because Oikawa and her would be an unstoppable annoying duo but (Name) honestly didn’t care and claims to be “the fun cousin” as she prepares herself to hurl herself if she saw her favorite cousin in the practice match.
It was a practice match between Karasuno, her school and Aoba Johsai, her cousin’s school today and (Name) couldn’t miss up the opportunity to see her cousin on action again, after all, her school volleyball club didn’t put up much of a fight anymore but seeing two promising players this year, she was immediately hooked. Also, it’s been a long time since she saw Iwaizumi played and by the talk of her classmates, he’s popular along with Oikawa that makes her proud.
But confidence wasn’t on her side today, standing in front of the unfamiliar school gates with a wince, she grip the strap of her bag and anxiety was filling her up. (Name) could have joined Kiyoko, knowing they’re good close friends but by the looks of it, the manager of the crows is busy, didn’t had the heart to disturb her classmate because she wanted to annoy her cousin for good old times.
She’s shy. Even with the happy exterior, (Name) is absolutely a shy school girl when she’s by herself.
Placing both of her hands in her cheeks, she gives a few soft pats, encouraging herself to walk forward. She could do this, she will not get lost, she’s the fun cousin—
Her eyes suddenly landed on two tall third years, walking together at school and by the look of their uniform, they’re from the volleyball club! Must be Iwaizumi’s teammates! Forget her shyness! Surprising her favorite cousin is her priority! With that, she finds herself walking toward them, placing a practice friendly smile on her lips. “Excuse me!”
Oh My God.
Stopping in front of the two men towering over her figure, she looks up to dark haired who’s looking at her with eyebrows raised in question, his dark eyes looking at her carefully. Unconsciously, she grasp the strap of her bag as she looks at this man features and her mind went blank for a moment because:
“Holy shit, he’s cute.” She thought, (Name) forgot about what she’s going to say but when he tilts his head to the side, waiting for her to speak up, (Name) cleared her throat, fighting the oncoming heat threatening to spread across her cheeks. “I— I, can you please point me the way to the practice match…” giving herself a pat on the back to complete a sentence but mentally slapping herself because she sounded rude and quiet.
Matsukawa heard her, loud and clear, but he’s not going to act blind when he can see the red tinge by the tip of her ears, Hanamaki noticed it too and he shot his bestfriend a knowing look when it’s obvious Matsukawa finds her cute because her confidence earlier was now melting to a shy one and from the way he’s holding back a grin.
Matsukawa Issei heard her but he’s going to prolong their conversation with this cute girl, he’ll make sure he’ll make her remember this time.
(Name) couldn’t handle the blush spreading her cheeks anymore when the tall dark haired attractive volleyball player leaned down slightly to get a better hearing of her words, (his perfume hits her nose, he smelled really good too, can’t this guy have one flaw?) and hummed as if asking her to repeat again— making words lotched up on her throat and screaming at herself to focus, this is very first time (Name) was ready to melt into a puddle of embarrassment.
“Sorry for disturbing you, but I was wondering if you could point the direction of the gym for me? I’m here to visit my cousin.” (Name) said, this time with more confidence, acting as if him leaning down didn’t make her flustered and voice higher than usual, her fingers now playing at the zipper of her bag that goes noticed to the two third years. Hanamaki was eyeing her hands with a teasing smile (making her more embarrassed, was she that obvious?) while Matsukawa fought a grin breaking when she struggled to keep eye contact.
Cute, the tall middle blocker thought.
“Ah,” he stood back in full height, flashing her a smile before pointing the gym not far from them. “Right there, are you going to watch the practice match?” Matsukawa was lowkey hoping she’ll say yes and cheer for (him) his team.
Tall, handsome and his voice is deep too.
This is exactly (Name)’s type—
Before she could answer him, she saw Iwaizumi storming up behind, eyes narrowing at Matsukawa’s head before landing at her, making her wave her hand at him.
She actually forgot she came here for Iwaizumi.
(Name) didn’t get a chance to greet him her cousin who landed his palm of Matsukawa’s back, making him wince at the contact and pouted to see his vice-captain throwing a glare at the both of them.
“Don’t make my cousin uncomfortable—“ she wasn’t though. “—and start warming up, we’re about to start and you, come with me.” With that he grabbed her arm, making the girl yelp in surprise before throwing a quick thanks at Matsukawa’s direction but avoiding his gaze when he finally lets out a grin, making him more ten times attractive.
Out of earshot, (Name) looks at the grumbling Iwaizumi and smiled, the blush was still present on her cheeks. “Bro, your teammate is a total cutie. What’s his name?“ To which Iwaizumi only rolled his eyes, he can’t find his confidence to tell her that his teammate was her first crush back in kindergarten who she keeps telling young Iwaizumi she’s gonna get married and he’s invited when she shows the flowers Matsukawa gave her.
“Hey, isn’t that the girl you had a crush on kindergarten, giving her flowers and corny things like that?” Hanamaki grinned when Matsukawa rubbed the back of his head with a sheepish smile.
“Yeah and for your information, I still have a crush on her, i’m going to ask for her number later.”
Yep, Matsukawa Issei will make sure (Name) hold onto the promise they both shared when they were in kindergarten because even though it sounds corny, he’s still head over heels for (Name) only.

"i'm not very fond of marriages,"
it was late summertime, the night had just fallen and the stars were out already, the sky equipped with a soft breeze as you and iwaizumi stood side by side on the balcony.
"really?" he asked, a small smile on his face with furrowed eyebrows as he looked over to you, "why so?"
you sighed, shrugging and leaning on the balcony ledge, "they usually don't work out, you know? everything just starts going down hill after you marry someone,"
you continued, "i just don't want to love and care for someone who might neglect me after marriage, i don't want to get myself hurt."
iwaizumi hummed, "understandable,"
you laughed, "yeah, girlfriends and boyfriends come and go, i'd rather have that, i suppose."
"really now?" he faced you, arms crossed while shaking his head, "okay, i have a suggestion."
you raised your eyebrows at your friend, leaning forward in intrest, "do tell,"
"say, by the time we're both forty and unmarried, how about we get together and well, get married," he said, a grin resting on his face.
you smiled at him with furrowed eyebrows, amusement sparkling in your eyes, "you mean like a backup?"
iwaizumi nodded, "and i promise i'll treat you like a queen."
you laughed, "alright then," you smiled over to iwaizumi, shaking his hand.
"this is for the deal," you said, before resting your elbow on the ledge, your fist balled but your pinkie left extended, "this is for the promise,"
iwaizumi raised an eyebrow, "pinkie promise?" he chuckled, shaking his head, "if that's what it takes then."
he hooked his pinkie through yours, and the promise was set under the starry sky.
•••
"you know what, haji?"
you call out to your husband from the living room, and he replies with a 'yeah?' accompanied by the clinging of dishes from the kitchen.
"i think we really stepped up that deal," you say, staring at your hand, or more precisely, the ring on your finger that never fails to bring a smile on your face.
iwaizumi asks, "what deal?"
you scowl, and even though the two of you are in different places, you can hear him chuckle, and you know that he knows you're scowling, "you know, that backup deal we made in highschool."
"i have no idea what you're talking about," he replies back followed by his laughter as you scoff.
"you know exactly what i'm talking about, haji." and you know he's joking around, and he knows you're smiling right now, and the both of you know that you're having fun.
there's silence, the water running is the only sound that's heard, before that stops too, and iwaizumi steps out of the kitchen with a towel in his hands, drying them.
"i do," he says, "highschool seems like forever ago."
you roll your eyes at him, patting the couch for him to sit down and he obliges, "i thought you'd be married before forty, you know? never thought the deal would actually happen."
now it's his turn to roll his eyes at you, "yeah, i'm married to you."
you laugh, shaking your head, "that's true,"
and once more, it's late summer time, the both of you in your shared apartment in the middle of the city, unable to see the stars, but just because you can't see them doesn't mean they're not there, the window's open and the sky is dark, equipped by a soft breeze and the memory is as fresh as ever.
"and you kept your promise too, haji." you say, fiddling with your fingers, and iwaizumi brushes his hand over your jawline, tilting your head up to look at him and he's smirking.
"i'd never break a pinkie promise."

iwaizumi was terrified of horror films.
no, no, not scared, terrified.
he will never admit it, but the first time he watched a horror movie when he was eight years old, he refused to sleep for months without his mom by his side.
ever since, he tried to stray away from horror- related stuff as much as he could, of course oikawa wouldn't let him go off scot-free and would insist to watch a horror movie for any team gatherings just to see iwaizumi get all jittery and shaky everytime a jump-scare comes on.
but when you offered to watch ‘it’ for movie night, iwaizumi swallowed his fear and pridefully agreed.
he was only starting to regret his decision twenty minutes into the movie.
“man, I sure do love that movie,” iwaizumi jerked at the sound of your voice.
“you watched it before?”
“several,”
“doesn't it scare you?”
“no?” you replied, an amused smirk on your face, “does it scare you?”
iwaizumi straightened his posture, “of course not,”
but you only smiled and laughed when you saw the way his shoulders tensed and his hands gripped the material of his sweatpants when the first jumpscare came on.
“oh man, you are so scared right now,” you said, laughing and pausing the movie.
“I'm not!”
no, he will never admit the fact that he was absouelty terrified of horror films. no, not gonna happen.
you smiled teasingly over at him, “so...we should continue the movie then?”
with another swallow of his fear, iwaizumi once more agreed.
and oh boy, did it take iwaizumi alot of courage to sit for the next fifteen minutes before you paused the movie again, getting up from the couch and saying that you will head to the bathroom.
iwaizumi narrowed his eyes at you, “you're doing this on purpose, aren't you?”
you grinned at him, you eyes glinting with teasing amusement, “I don't know, maybe I am?”
“I hate you,”
“no you don't” you leaned down, holding his face in your hands, and your face close, so close he could smell your scent creep around him, and iwaizumi thinks that maybe horror films aren't that scary.
but only if you are with him.
“I'll be back in a few minutes, and then we could cuddle if the movie scares you that much,” you said, and god did he miss your scent when you pulled away, heading towards the bathroom.
well, to say the least, iwaizumi couldn't wait for his cuddles.

Fun Facts:
- Tendou has liked y/n since he saw her at a middle school game, and his like for her only increased in highschool when she became manager
- For the same reason he started liking her more, he didn't want to ask her out. There was some unspoken rule to not date Ushijima's cousin.
- Ushijima and Semi were the only people who knew, but Kuroo and Bokuto found out through observing.
