In the side game Fuyuhiko offers to help Izuru bust out of HPA, and in the anime Hajime was friendly-ish with Natsumi and close with Chiaki, who were both in Fuyuhiko's life to varying degrees, SO

Fuyuhiko gets more power once he graduates and is allowed to run missions he orchestrates himself. The amount of surprising deaths and/or disappearances at HPA have been bothering him for years, because of His Nature and also because his puppy-crush chiaki was talking about her missing friend right before she mysteriously died, and said friend was also his sister's only friend before SHE died. And also also, like, he's supposed to have jurisdiction over organized killing, and his plan does NOT involve high school students.

He's not the only one who's wondering what goes on behind the scenes either, so he gets some help from The Detective and The Impostor (and The Hacker?) to at least get some info.

But, oh crap, he finds Chiaki's missing friend in there, looking pretty different and asleep but it's definitely him. Fuyuhiko impulsively wakes him up and de-attaches the various machines, because otherwise they gotta leave him in there and he doesn't like that. Bad idea though since that's an amnesiac emotionless killing machine! Izuru (Hajime but at the height of Izuru-ism and very freshly traumatized) busts out just fine by himself, but only because he feels like it, and he only feels like it because Fuyuhiko (and his knowledge of who Izuru used to be, as the only living person who remembers Hajime) is the most mildly almost-interesting thing to happen to him in his memory. Dragging Fuyuhiko around is something to do, at least, and marginally better than the endless surgeries and boredom. Maybe Izuru can even try to dig for some more of those unexpected sensations.

Buuuut Fuyuhiko is one of the most stubborn and emotionally repressed people ever, not exactly wading in bountiful emotions himself, and Izuru has no remorse for using force when it's beneficial. In fact, feeling bad -guilt or remorse or self-disgust- is an interesting feeling, and probably easier to reach than the nice ones....

Kamukura's gaze lingers on the bread as yours lingers on the lollipop, but neither of you picks it up, switching to grab your own things, leaving to check out.

Kamukura steals a glance at you as you check out before him.

Izuru is pretty much the perfect man, so of course you fell for him. He’s the most talented man in the world, not the mention handsome.

His one issue is his boredom, though. When he asked you out, you were honestly surprised. You hadn’t bothered to tell him about your feelings, having seen him reject so many other girls. You assumed that no one would satisfy him.

You always managed to catch his gaze. It was a tingly feeling crawling up the back of your neck. When you would turn around, he would always be there. It was an exhilarating feeling like he was both checking you out and assessing his prey.

That day Izuru asked you out, he caught you alone on your lunch break. He approached you suddenly and casually yet firmly blocked your path with his arm, finger tips resting on the brick wall lining your path.

“Go out with me.”

His tone was smooth, confident but not cold, like you may have expected.

“O-ok…” was all you managed to get out, in your surprise.

“Good.” A ghost of a smile appeared on his face, more than you had ever seen from him. “I will be picking you up at 7.” His voice was less intense but still asserting.

You stand still, in a quiet state of disbelief about what just happened. Izuru was already several strides down the pathway before you remembered.

“Don’t you need my address?”

Izuru stopped and turned to face you. “No need. I already know where you live.”

He smiled impishly. Your face flushed in a rush of bewilderment, confusion, and, oddly, attraction. You know how off-put you SHOULD be feeling. However, you are completely swept up in Izuru’s cold charm.

saw a tweet about this so i have to start the same conversation on tumblr izuru and hajime merging postgame was the stupidest fucking decision imo. while it is interesting to study how they’d be merged postgame, in the end it just takes so much away from their character and completely erases the entire point of hajimes character specifically bc in the end he kinda just gets a cheatcode to being talented and special instead of accepting the person he was born as + izuru really didnt get much character development at all and him merging back with hajime would completely eradicate any possibility of him developing on his own, especially since the two largely seem to inherit hajimes emotions. all in all it’s a lose-lose situation. LET THEM COEXIST

something about the Ultimate Hope title being inherently cursed for the superiority it gives over other people while also constantly perpetrating the concept of Ultimates as a whole.

something about how it is a title given to those that managed to survive extreme suffering that they should never have had to go through, but only puts them further away from others around them.

something about the way it makes others glorify the person; they are brought to being a symbol of something greater, a herald of a new age. An expected martyr, at worst. that person isnt a person anymore, just a stand-in for something greater

something about how it would inevitably destroy even the kindest people, because no person could bear that weight. The inevitable end is destruction of others and the self, because there's far too much strain put upon a person who got this title for going through something horrible.

no matter how much good it symbolizes, no matter how much good can be done with it, it still holds a similar standing as Ultimate Despair. opposites inevitably reflect one another.

Regressed Nagito with Caregiver Izuru headcanons!

•Nothing slipped past Izuru Kamukura, the Ultimate Hope that possessed every talent known to humankind

•That’s why when he noticed Nagito’s demeanor change even in the slightest, his first thought was age regression due to his quick calculations

•He noticed how Nagito spoke quieter at some times, how his eyes lit up when he passed by a picture book or something childish like blocks, and finally how he would occasionally chew on his sleeve for comfort when he thought no one could see him

•Izuru had no problem with confronting people— So as soon as he was alone with Nagito, he brought it up to him

•He stated that he had noticed his behaviors and had come to the conclusion he was an age regressor

•Nagito was not surprised when Izuru had found out (he was hope itself— to have every talent known to humankind), yet that didn’t make it any less awkward to have the conversation. In fact— Nagito had assumed he would have just ignored it.

•He could only give an tense laugh, awkwardly meeting Izuru’s eyes as he forced a smile

•“Ah, you found out? Nothing I wouldn’t have expected of the Ultimate Hope,” Nagito said in response, “Well, it’s true. I do age regress. You should just ignore trash like me, though.”

•Izuru typically would have. Izuru would have disregarded the situation with no negative or positive view on it

•Somehow, though, he could not bring himself to leave this whole thing alone

•Perhaps it was because he cared for him, or perhaps it was because he possessed every Ultimate talent (that included the Ultimate Caretaker). Izuru liked to convince himself it was the latter, despite the fact that may not be true

•Nonetheless, he shook his head, as if declining the suggestion to ignore Nagito

•“Feel free to come to me if you ever don’t want to regress alone.”

•Nagito assured him he would never bother him, that Izuru would never have to deal with someone like him

•That was until Nagito appeared at his door one night after a really intense nightmare, his cheeks flushed as tears streamed down his face

•Izuru let him into his room, allowing him to sit next to him on the bed and carefully wrapping an arm around him, pulling him close into his chest and maybe even rocking him a little until he was finally able to fall back asleep

•That was the event that really convinced Nagito that he wasn’t bothering Izuru— he genuinely didn’t mind looking after him

•So— after that— with Nagito’s permission, Izuru took care of him from then on out!

•Izuru’s a pretty calm caregiver, nor is he all that strict

•The only things he really ensures are things related to his well-being— for example, that Nagito doesn’t eat candy as a whole meal, and that he goes to bed at a reasonable time

•He just wants the best for him— is all!

•Nagito’s definitely a fan of stuffed animals— all kinds of them. The soft feeling brushing against his skin and the adorable appearances never fail to comfort him

•Izuru’s quite skilled at remembering their names and personalities, which always impresses Nagito

•The two often take walks together, too, no matter the time of day! In the morning, afternoon, or even nighttime, they love to take walks

•Nagito will point at any bird or animal that he sees, tugging on Izuru’s sleeve and gasping out a, “Look!”

•If it was nighttime, they would sometimes take a break and sit down, staring up at the stars and pointing them out to each other

•Izuru can name just about every constellation and fact about stars, and Nagito’s happy to listen, leaning on his shoulder and almost always falling asleep from his soft voice

•Izuru’s indifferent about physical affection— he doesn’t mind nor hate it— though Nagito’s quite the affectionate regressor when it came to things like hugs, hand holding, etc.

•Whenever they crossed the street, Nagito would latch onto Izuru’s hand, and Izuru would squeeze back tightly

•Or, if they were ever just sitting down and watching a cartoon, Nagito would lean close onto Izuru’s shoulder, resulting in an arm getting carefully wrapped around him

•Izuru doesn’t use pet names very often— however, on the occasion, a quiet “dear” or, “sweetheart” will slip out

•Those are typically reserved for when he’s serious about something

•On the same note, Nagito did not have the best nor healthy childhood, that’s part of the reason why he regresses

•So, sometimes, Nagito with definitely impurely regress, or slip into a younger state of mind whenever things get to be all too much

•Izuru’s careful to read his expressions, analyzing his behavior to confirm whether Nagito needs some alone time, or if comforting him would help

•Usually, it’s the latter

•Izuru will sit down beside him and ask for permission to touch him before wrapping an arm around him and pulling him close to his side, allowing Nagito to cry it out or mumble his frustrations to him

•He’ll nod understandingly, tracing circles into his back and running his fingers through his hair until his sobs had reduced to mere sniffles

•After that, he’ll lead him to his bed, sitting down beside him and wiping away any remaining tears

•Admittedly, Nagito does get rather exhausted after all of the tears, so he’s quick to lean close into Izuru, drifting off to sleep

•So— Overall— Izuru is a really calm and collected caregiver, always ensuring that Nagito is safe and comfortable in his regression

•Nagito’s really just happy to have someone looking after him— but he feels really lucky that it’s Izuru who’s taking care of him

•The two care for each other very much— that’s for sure!
