You eyed your half eaten salmon fillet on the plate in front of you, zoned out as one of the higher ups for Capa droned on about this years successes.
It was a "team" dinner; the word team taken very lightly considering anyone outside of the essential circle of people who aided in Nick Capa's success were nothing more than minions that silently kept the company running behind the scenes.
You were one of those minions, a graphic designer that stared at a computer for eight hours back at headquarters. But, every six months Capa would set up a dinner night at some fancy restaurant and pretend like the company was one big happy family. It wasn't. You hated working for them, but they paid good.
Last year you were about to walk right out of your job but you just had to meet one of the mechanics, Jack Salter.
He was charming, sarcastic, and hated his job as much as you did. The two of you bonded over venting about woes in the workplace. What started out as casually stopping to chat here and there during the work day, turned into meeting for dinner at a pub, going to see movies together, and before you knew it, the two of you were dating.
Anyone at Capa could care less that two employees were dating, they just wanted to ensure both of you still did your jobs. Even though the two of you were good employees for a company that didn't deserve either worker, Jack swore the moment a better opportunity would arise, he'd take it to get the two of you away from Capa.
That moment hadn't arrived yet. And now the two of you sat side by side pretending to be interested at a company dinner meeting.
Jack rested his chin on his hand as the chief engineer talked. His brow would knit every so often, the corners of his mouth drooping slightly as he listened. You knew these facial expressions were a result of Jack's inner driver desperately wanting to make some sort of remark on what was being said. But he knew better and kept his mouth shut.
Your eyes lingered on your boyfriend as he took a sip of his beer. There was something about him tonight that just had you enamored more than usual. Maybe it was the suit he wore? His tie was slightly loosened and the very top button of his dress shirt undone. Or was it the way his hair was styled and the appearance of his not so groomed facial hair? The more you thought about it, the more you realized it was all of the above. He just looked that good.
By the time you came to your conclusion, Jack was eyeing you suspiciously. He raised his right eyebrow slightly as a small, curious, smile grew on his lips.
"Care to share what you are thinking?"
You blushed slightly at the realization you had been caught staring. "Oh nothing." you dismissed, turning your attention back to the plate in front of you.
You heard Jack grunt beside you, he sounded a little disappointed that you didn't share what you had been staring at him for.
A few minutes passed, your thoughts began to wander again, this time you thought of an idea. Reaching slowly across, you rested your right hand on Jack's inner thigh. He instantly tensed, the location of your hand caused him to clench his jaw and turn slightly to look at you.
"Y/N..." he mumbled, keeping this situation as discreet as he could.
A small, subtle, smile danced across your lips when he said your name. You kept your hand in place for a minute, letting him think that's all you had planned on doing. It certainly wasn't.
Jack's leg jerked upwards, smacking the underside of the table when your hand moved to his crotch. The sound of his knee colliding with the table caused everyone at the table to stare.
Jack looked mortified, his cheeks turning a bright red color, you on the other hand, did your best to stifle a laugh.
"Sorry." Jack cleared his throat, a rush of awkwardness temporarily paralyzing him.
The other people at the table shot both of you disapproving looks before turning their attention to the chief engineer who continued his speech. Now with zero attention on the two of you, Jack leaned slightly towards you.
"You're gonna pay for that."
His comment made you smile. "Fine by me, bet you can't make it through this dinner." you countered.
The two of you eyed each other before Jack moved to his upright position. You moved your hand against his crotch, he tensed again, jaw clenching tighter then it had the first time you placed your hand on his leg.
This time he retaliated. You felt his large hand slide up under your tight, maroon colored dress, and squeeze the inside of your thigh.
You let out a long sigh, keeping it quiet enough to avoid unwanted attention, but Jack heard it. The corner of his mouth raised slightly into a smirk.
Another pause between the two of you ensued, both wondering who would make the next move. You did, of course. Gripping his now hardening bulge.
Jack pulled his lips inward and cleared his throat, retaliating with moving his hand up farther, letting his middle finger brush against the soft fabric of your panties. Your breath hitched at the feeling of his touch. You could feel a growing heat between your legs that now had you on edge.
The both of you were wound like springs, ready to burst at any moment. The anticipation of the next move caused your skin to erupt in goosebumps. Instead, Jack rose from his seat, tossing his napkin onto the table.
"We have to get going, thanks for inviting us." He said quickly, backing up so you were able to exit your seat as well.
Surprised by his sudden need to leave the dinner table, you hurried out of your seat, waving to the people that eyed the two of you. Your cheeks were flushed, not from embarrassment, but rather the heat of arousal that had pretty much consumed your every thought at this point.
Jack gripped your hand firmly and lead the two of you out of the restaurant, weaving between tables till you reached the cool London evening air.
"Okay now what?" you asked, looking to your boyfriend as he walked like a man on a mission to the parked black Mercedes, digging the key fob out of his pocket.
"You pay for your actions." he answered, his voice was thicker than it was back in the restaurant. His tone was laced with desire and that only made your core throb even more.
The car was parked towards the middle of the lot that sat across from the restaurant. Since it was later in the evening, some time after eight, there were significantly less cars parked in the lot then there was upon arriving for the dinner an hour and a half ago.
With a quick click of the key fob, Jack unlocked the car and opened the passenger door for you. You let go of his large hand and sat down in the car, watching him shut the door and quickly make his way to the driver side. Being the tall man he was, Jack had to practically fold in half to lower himself inside the vehicle, a minor struggle you always found amusing to watch.
"You really think we are gonna make it all the way home?" you asked, eyes shifting to the floor below you so you could place your purse between your feet.
In the few seconds you had looked away, Jack reached over, hoisting you onto his lap in one quick motion. The suddenness of the action caused you to gasp and rest your hands on his chest as you straddled his lap. The two of you locked eyes. A shiver ran down your spine when you saw how glossed over and dark his eyes were, nothing but lust and want could be seen etched over his face.
"Fuck.." you mumbled, crashing your lips onto his.
The kiss was sloppy, rushed, heated. You hummed against his lips as his hands slid down, gripping your ass with both hands. In response, you used both of your hands to pull his tie loose and unbuttoned his white dress shirt halfway. Once achieved, you were quick to place your hands on his bare chest. You could feel his heart racing already, the man was a live wire about to short circuit at any moment from the amount of arousal he had been holding back.
The following moments whizzed by, nothing but a whirlwind of pleasure and want. Jack had pulled the lever on the side of the driver's seat, causing the back to fall all the way down, allowing him to lay back completely. As your tongues danced, Jack let go of your ass briefly to undo his pants and belt. When he seemed to struggle with the process, you temporarily pulled away from the kiss and helped move the fabric out of the way, his cock emerging from his boxers like a spring.
Large hands moved back to your waist, one hand hooking your panties and pulled them to the side, the other holding you steady as you felt Jack rub his hardened member against your slick core.
You let out a light moan. "Jack...c'mon don't tease." you whined.
Jack smirked. "I told you you'd have to pay for teasing me earlier."
"As if you can hold off long enough to actually tease me." you countered.
"True," Jack kissed you again. "I'm too impatient."
Before you could even formulate a response, you felt his cock fill you completely. A sharp gasp escaped your lips, chased by a satisfied moan.
Your walls clamped against him, forming around his thickness as he began to thrust in and out.
"Goddamn you feel so good..." Jack breathed, biting back his lower lip as he raised his hips slightly, allowing him to angle his thrusting, knowing right were your most sensitive spots were.
"Jack," you moaned, feeling that tight coil deep within you start to build already. "--right there."
The car rocked to the movement of his thrusts, windows became blurry with condensation, and a symphony of moans could be heard, only muffled by the closed Mercedes doors. You could care less if anyone within the vicinity could hear the two of you, your mind was far away on a pleasure high you couldn't even put into words.
The building of your climax caused you to whine and squirm under Jack's strong hold. He could tell you were reaching breaking point and he had every intention of getting you to a climax that would leave you breathless.
His thrusts became quicker, deeper, harder. You cried out in pleasure, tilting your head towards the ceiling of the car, nearly scraping the top of your head on it as every nerve in your body came alive.
Your walls fluttered around him as you released, your fists gripping his undone dress shirt. For a moment you thought you were seeing stars, who knows, maybe you did, the release was that extraordinary.
Jack groaned, his release coming only moments after yours as he pumped himself into you, slowing down his movement after a few more weak thrusts.
The two of you lay on the driver's seat, panting heavily. Your head resting on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. Jack wrapped his strong arms around your waist, the two of you enjoying a wordless embrace for a few minutes as you came down from cloud nine and back to reality.
"Holy shit." Jack huffed, reaching one hand up to wipe some sweat from his brow.
"Holy shit is right." you agreed, a tired but happy smile on your face. "I guess this was good enough payback."
Jack chuckled, bringing the seat back to an upright position. He lazily kissed your lips a couple times before setting you back into the passenger seat. "Yeah, I think that'll do." he agreed, pulling his pants back up and starting the car.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
“what are you doing ?” he urgently asked you in a shushed tone. his eyes trail at the movements of your snaking fingers against his clothed inner thigh, moving dangerously close towards his crotch. humming softly, you turn your head to him, “nothing, can’t your sweet girlfriend show some affection ?” you jokingly pout at him, making him turn his head to look out the windows to avoid eye contact, puffs of fluffy clouds feasting his eyes. you’re both seated in the business class section of the plane, a short connecting flight to your vacation destination. it’s been a while since you’ve spent some time alone together, so he decided it’d be nice to go fly someplace with beaches and warm climate, maybe some palm trees too.
truth is you love teasing jann, you love seeing him get all flustered and shy and the fact that it’s so easy to make him fall underneath your touch is a plus point. you could be touching him sneakily, ghosting your dainty fingers up his arms, sometimes barely even touching him and he’ll be shifting in his seat like a shy boy that gets zero action. just like what’s happening right now. his cheeks are starting to heat up from your hand rubbing back and forth on his inner thigh, occasionally squeezing at the flesh. he’s trying his best to avoid your ‘loving’ gaze, that’ll only turn into a teasing smirk if he meets with it. continuing your touches along his inner thigh, you lean in to rest your chin on his shoulder, head cocked to the side to join him looking at the clouds, a wide content smile decorating your face. jann’s the best boyfriend you could ever ask for, but sometimes riling him up serves you so much fun. especially when you end up fucking each other.
straightening his back, he took a deep breath, a little shaky from the nerves, thanks to your hand position. sighing, he smiles at you. “gonna be great there y’know, especially with you by my side” you let out a small giggle at his words before snuggling yourself up against his chest. what a dork. “hmm-mm, i know” you shake your head slightly at his obvious attempt of trying to distract you from touching too close to his crotch, knowing that he’s not gonna make it safely if you don’t stop or worse, if you start rubbing directly on his crotch. which is exactly what you’re doing right now. shutting his eyes, he tries to relax himself by sitting straight with his head resting against the seat, his hand grabbing at the armrest beside him. he looks down at his shoulder to look at you, “please baby i think we should wait till we get there” he tries to reason with you, his eyes soft and pupils dilated looking at you, at which you continue your assault on his crotch, paying no mind to his pleas, your head cocked to the side. “don’t know what you’re talking about jann” you respond shrugging, earning a defeated sigh from him, accepting his fate.
for the next couple of minutes you pretend like nothing is going on, pointing out the window for him to look at the bunny shaped cloud you’d spotted, or just lean your head against his shoulder like any other loving couple. except for the fact that this couple got one hand squeezing and rubbing at the other’s growing bulge, seemingly enjoying how bad he is squirming around in his seat, beads of sweat starting to form on his temple and under his curly locks. just when you decide that it’s not fun enough, you start kissing the skin on his neck, sucking and licking at his sweet spot before moving your lips to bite at his earlobe. he could feel you smiling against his skin, his bottom lips trapped against his teeth to keep him from letting out a moan that the whole plane would hear. jann’s doing everything he could to hold himself in, wanting you to stop but he loves having your lips across every inch of him too much to say anything. all he could do is breathe and exhale as quiet as he could, praying for his cock to not bust in his pants right there and then.
you on the other hand is enjoying this a little too much. it’s like all your ‘teasing jann’ dreams had come true, especially with the fact that he’s got little to no space to move with you holding him down, no room to get away from you, and he has to keep his mouth shut or everyone else will know. not to mention the panic he has to go through every time he sees an approaching stewardess, offering them a little cracked smile if they greet him. what you don’t know is that he’s secretly enjoying the adrenaline rush. if he wasn’t as shy he would’ve made you blow him right in his seat. clearing his throat, he starts to smooth out his shirt before getting up, lifting your hand off him. “i’ll be back okay ?” he assures you in a whispered tone as you pout at him. he leans in to give you a peck on the lips before making his way towards the lavatory. you watch him closely as you notice his hands clasped together in front of him, covering his otherwise obvious bulge. you chuckle to yourself.
just as he manages to get in, you get up from your seat to walk the same path he just went on, moving past a few rows of seats and people sleeping. as you arrive in front of the same lavatory you lean against the wall adjacent to the door, waiting for him to finish. you know he won’t be long, whatever he’s doing in there is just him trying to freshen himself up, maybe calm his erection down. he knows well not to jerk himself off around you. he’s only allowed to do that when you’re physically away from each other. hearing the door unlocking, you’re quick to grab it open and push yourself inside, meeting with his startled confused look. you lock the door behind you with a smile before grabbing both sides of his face, slightly pulling it down and crashing your lips against his soft, plump ones. he’s taken aback at first, before his shoulders soften down and his hands snake around your waist, pulling you closer against him. moving your hands from his cheeks to the back of his head, your fingers play at the little hairs, nail softly scratching at his scalp, earning a soft moan from him. he lets out a relieved sigh, melting away at the feeling of kissing your lips. you pull away from a moment to look at him, his puppy eyes set on yours. “hi baby” you smile at him before leaning in to continue kissing him. his fingers that were snaking around your waist start to claw at the fabric wrapped around you. you let out a soft giggle at his desperation, knowing that you’ve been teasing him so much, yet he behaved so well back at your seats. he was very patient with you and kept a quiet mouth.
your bodies move perfectly against each other, hands roaming and clawing for some sort of relieve before your back hit the sink. jann is still kissing your bottom lip, wetting it with his saliva as his tongue swipes across it. your lips dance against each other, moulding at the shape as he begins to suck at your tongue. both your saliva are mixing together as your hand starts reaching down and unbuckling his belt before unbuttoning his jeans. you mentally roll your eyes at his choice of pants for comfort travelling. pulling away slightly, your hot breaths puffing up against each other’s faces, fogging the mirror behind you. “i told you to wear something comfy” he chuckles at you still managing to pick at him, “then this wouldn’t be as hot” he says, his deep voice is turning you on so much, he’s so adorable yet he has the voice that could make you cum that instance. he continues your work on his jeans, pulling the zipper down, the clacking sound of the belt surrounding the confined space. before he’d take out his cock from his boxers he reaches at your hands that are trying to push the waistband of your sweatpants down, helping you get it past your ass before reaching the hem of your panties next and pulling it down. both your panties and pants are now pooling at your ankle. he leans in to kiss at your lips once again as his hand trail between you to rub at your pussy, spreading your wetness around your folds and to your fuckhole. he prods a finger at it before pushing in, slightly fucking you with his middle finger just to have a taste. your hands quickly move to take out his cock from his boxers, tugging at the length as precum seeps out from his tip. collecting his precum, you use it as a lube, spreading it all across his cock.
both your hands are now touching each other, his fingers fucking into you to stretch your tight hole for a bit while your hand tug at his length. halting your movements on his cock, you reach your hand up to his lips. “spit”, you order him, as he obediently spit into your hand with his eyes set on yours, before you bring it down and spread it onto his throbbing length. he’s rock hard now, his tip pink and sensitive. not wanting to waste any time anymore, he steps on your pants and panties that are pooling at your ankles, keeping it down as he lifts your thigh so that you now has one leg up wrapped around his waist. he moves closer as you’re still tugging at his cock, pulling him to position his tip at your entrance. before he could even move you spit a glob of saliva at where you two are connected, as he starts moving his hips, wasting no time to fuck you on the sink, your leg wrapped around his waist. you’re moaning into his ear, your hands graze across his back, holding onto him so your back doesn’t get shoved repeatedly into the mirror with each of his thrusts. his thrusts are rapid and desperate, he’s focused on getting off though he knows people are going to want to use the lavatory anytime now. “fuck- oh god” he whines out heavily, your pussy still feels so tight for him.
you let out a high pitched moan, your boobs bouncing up and down in your sweatshirt with his rough thrusts. he lets out a low moan as his eyes trail down to watch his cock going in and out of you, your puffy folds engulfing his throbbing length, a ring of white forming at the base of his cock. you look at his focused face, his lips parted apart, looking plump and swollen from all the kissing you were doing earlier until he suddenly feels like he’s not fucking you deep enough. he grabs at the underside of your thigh, before moving his hand to push your calf upwards and settling it on his shoulder. you’re now even more exposed than ever, giving him more access to resume his fucking, his cock now reaching spots even deeper than before. he was already prodding his tip against your sweet spot, fucking at it, now he’s almost kissing your cervix, all while his girth stretching your walls out. your mouth are open to let out a moan for him yet nothing’s coming out, the pleasure washing over you as you come on his cock undone, catching yourself off guard. “jann- fuck, i just came” you’re a bit shocked but still hazy from your orgasm. he leans in to kiss you, his lips curling into a smile before he pulls away to rest his forehead against your temple. “mm, i know. you feel so good-fuck” he’s still fucking his cock into you, sticky sounds of skin slapping bouncing off the walls as you pray for the people who sits nearby to not hear your moans.
“shh jann—” you shush him after he lets out a guttural moan himself, as he bites down on his lips to suppress his noises. “should’ve think of that sooner before leaving me all worked up” he says with a strained voice as he frowns at you, his face contorting in pleasure, his bottom lips hanging low, glistening under the low light.
“m’gonna cum,, fuck mm-m gonna cum oh-” his thrusts start to falter, his hips bucking up into you uncontrollably as he struggles to not let out his usual whiny moans. he’s whimpering instead, quietly into your ears, begging you for a release. you lean forward to catch his lips, pulling him in for a kiss as you clench down hard on his cock, instantly making him cum on the spot, warm spurts of cum squirting out of his tip inside you. he’s holding onto you, clutching at the back of your shirt as he rides out his orgasm, pumping your pussy full of his cum. he’s almost done thrusting into you, his hips bucking forwards slowly, drips of his seed being pushed back out by his length. he’s panting, catching his breath as he carefully take out his cock, a ring of white stays clinging at the base of his length. he pulls away from your embrace, smiling wide at you, his gummy pearls on display. you roll your eyes at him playfully as you hit his chest. he bends down to slip your panties back onto your feet, pulling it up to quickly cover his cum seeping out of your pussy, before doing the same with your sweatpants.
“i want you to— to wear my cum and keep it inside you with that panties until we get there” he tells you, a hint of reluctance beneath his tone. he collected all his courage to tell you that. you raise your eyebrows at him as he continues, “least you could do after what you did to me” you abruptly burst into chuckles at his words as you quickly cover your mouth to keep quiet. you smile and nod at him, loving his sudden commanding side. he leans in once again to kiss you as he works on putting his softening cock inside his boxers and buckling his belt back on. he sends you away first to your seat so you guys wouldn’t raise suspicions, though you’re pretty sure you have ruined some of the people that sits near the lavatory’s flight.

Commit | Writing Blog(?)
I decided to do like a breakdown about writing this fic. Because it owns my mind and I need to get it out. Minor spoilers below.
Research:
To my surprise, IRL Jann hasn't been very successful. Like, at all.
The Fuji Speedway mentioned throughout is an endurance track.
The Netz Corner doesn't turn into a straight, the next one ("Panasonic Corner") does, but it just didn't sound as nice to write.
Jann didn't finish that race 2017 Super GT, his racing team partner did. Their team did place 12th.
The cars do go over 300km/hr (which is so unfathomable to me).
The amount of gym equipment that put others into incredibly suggestive positions is crazy. It was between the hack squat machine and the leg curl machine. The hack squat machine won out. Google it.
Easter Eggs:
I lived in Japan for four years. The first thing the waiters do when you try speaking Japanese is compliment it, even if it's awful. "Nihongo jouzu desune" means "Your Japanese is great!"
The expensive sake that Jack orders, Hiroki, range from $100 to $800 a bottle. That lunch was somewhere between $800 to $3,300.
Jann's mobile number of "4101141311" is alphabet/number cryptic. It says "4 Janack" (the ship name I've given them, hahha.)
Each chapter title is the activity that Jann has scheduled into his calendar, all of which correlate with the scenes taking place. I was very incredibly proud calling Ch. 8 Dinner, and Ch. 9 Dessert.
Headcanons/lore for this text:
Salter is fluent in Spanish. He grew up in a multicultural neighborhood, which is part of why he's considered an outcast. He wasn't one of the elite racers who buy their entrance to tracks with nepo money.
Controversial, but I coded Jack and Jann as bi/pan in this one. Not clearly mentioned, but Jann usually prefers woman whilst Jack prefers men. It's why Jann is surprised Jack's first crush was a girl.
Jann is into soft exhibitionism. Very much enjoys the thrill of getting caught. Pretty evident in most of his fantasies.
Until the gym bathroom, Jack hadn't come for like two weeks, lmao.
Things I struggled with:
Trying to make Salter's beard sound hot in spicy scenes. I couldn't figure out a way to describe it, so I just NEVER MENTIONED it, despite it definitely still being there.
Positions!!!!! They end up incredibly limited in movement and actions. Though, that's part of why it's Jann's favorite fantasy.
There's only one good word for "kiss." Like what the fuck?
Not making spicy descriptions sound too repetitive. Hopefully each felt unique.

Gran Turismo Movie Review
A professional gamer of the video game, Gran Turismo, is given the opportunity to race for Nissan and become an real-life professional race car driver.
Gran Turismo was a film that I didn't have a lot of expectations for. It's August release date as well as a boring trailer only lowered my expectations. Yet, by some miracle Gran Turismo is was a pleasant surprise. If not, the biggest surprise of 2023 so far.
The first stroke of brilliance for Gran Turismo was making it a sports movie, rather than a video game movie. They took a real life success story from the Gran Turismo Academy (GT Academy) and brought it to life in a biopic. Doing this caused them to focus on the story they are telling rather than the video game itself. The story is relatively simple as it is the classic underdog tale with all the tropes and beats associated with it. Gran Turismo executes this standard story well but does not bring anything new to the table.
However, within this standard story we see a loving relationship between master and apprentice between Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe) and Jack Salter (David Harbour). We watch the pair clash over racing strategies and guts into an almost father son relationship. Madekwe and Harbour have fantastic chemistry together as they bounce off one another. From Madekwe wide eye awe of the racing world, to Harbour being a natural father figure, they were great to watch on screen.
As for the racing elements of the film, Gran Turismo does not fail to deliver. The racing sequences are spectacular to watch. Through out each one you are on the edge of your seat as you feel the gravity and heat of bring in a 200 MPH racing car. The scenes are masterfully sown and shot together under Neill Blomkamp's direction. Blomkamp proves that he is a good director when given the correct material. Furthermore, these scenes cleverly use the mechanics of the Gran Turismo game to show the thoughts and actions of our drivers while they are racing. However, the editing was distracting and too flashy at some points during the race sequences, but was still an exhilarating ride to watch.
Overall, Gran Turismo was a pleasant surprise. It executes it's simple, underdog story incredibly well. While being filled with thrilling race sequences that will keep you on the edge of you seat. If you are a fan of the game, this might not be the movie that you expected, but you never knew wanted.
My Rating: B+

FOM BLOG: FOLKESTONE INVICTA 0-4 GILLINGHAM
My Thoughts On Folkestone Invicta V Gillingham
I got On The 11.53 Train From Rainham Train Station and I needed to go to Dover Priory Train Station before getting the train from Dover Priory To Folkestone West, And when I got on the train, I sat down and updated My Statuses On Facebook And Twitter, And I posted the following,,,, On My Way To The Fullicks Stadium as Gillingham take on Folkestone Invicta in our third open pre-season friendly fixture, I am sure everyone who will play today will get to play another 45 minutes as the players build up there match sharpness levels before the start of the season - COME ON THE GILLS!!!!!!!!!
I arrived at Dover Priory Train Station at 12.38, and I had a ten minute wait at Dover Priory for the train to Folkestone West, which is only two stops along from Dover Priory, and there were quite a few Gillingham Supporters at Dover Priory Train Station already, most of the supporters I spoke mentioned that they traveled in via train simply because of the traffic problems on The M20 and they wanted to avoid the hassle of traffic delays, while for some fans, Folkestone Invicta was the closest pre-season friendly they could go to, so it was easy to jump on the train and go to the game, We arrived at Folkestone West Train Station At 13.05PM, And from Folkestone West Train Station, It was a ten minute walk to The Fullicks Stadium.
I arrived out-side The Fullicks Stadium at 1.15PM, And I caught up with Diane, who had arrived at Folkestone Invicta’s Stadium twenty minutes earlier, and this match was the first pre-season friendly that Diane had gone to, I spoke about Gillingham’s 9-1 win against Faversham Town the previous Saturday, who played well and which players to watch out for, while at the same-time understanding that Faversham Town just about managed to avoid relegation from The Ryman Division One South, And Faversham Town have lost many key players from last season’s squad, and they are going to have to rely on younger players for the up and coming season, because Faversham Town have cut there playing budget from last season, but this was still a fantastic result for The Gills.
Once the turnstiles were open, I paid £5 to get in, while also paying another £2 for The Match-Day Programme and £1 for A Fifty / Fifty Match-Day Lottery Ticket, Me And Diane headed towards the food and drink bar, And Diane brought A Mars Bar, While I brought Two Cans Of Coca Cola and A Bacon Cheese-Burger For £5.80, Because we had entered the ground as soon as the turnstiles had opened, I needed to wait ten minutes before the burger was cooked, and once my order was ready, I picked up my burger, and Me and Diane walked around the ground towards the dugout side of the pitch, And once I finished my burger, Me and Diane went into the old programme shop and I brought two old Gillingham Match-Day Programme’s For 40p, I think if Diane wanted Liverpool’s Champions League Winning Match-Day Programme From This Year, Then Diane would have to pay £1,000 for that programme.
We stood dugout side of the pitch while Steve Evans and Paul Raynor put the players through there pre-match warm up preparations, and Simon Royce, Gary Hemens and James Russell were all on the bench, But one person who wasn’t there for today’s friendly is Mark Patterson, and there have been rumours this week that Mark Patterson has left Gillingham Football Club, which is strange, because Mark Patterson was offering contracts to players and he was sorting out which out of contract players need to stay, and which out of contract players need to be moved on, and within nine weeks, Mark Patterson has moved on (potentially, because there might be other reason’s why Mark Patterson has not turned up for Folkestone Invicta V Gillingham) Perhaps Mark Patterson has been offered A Managerial Role at A Non League Club, Or, Maybe Mark Patterson has found a job where he cannot commit to full time professional football as Gillingham’s First Team Coach, We don’t know what has happened at this present moment in time, but there has been a lot of speculation as to why Mark Patterson has not been in the dugout for Gillingham’s Pre-Season Friendlies.
Eventually, Gillingham’s Team News Appeared On Twitter, And Gillingham Lined Up As Follows,,,,,,  Jack Bonham, Lee Hodson, Max Ehmer, Alfie Jones, Trialist (This Player Was Joe Skarz) Nathan Thomas, Matty Willock, Stuart O’Keefe, Callum Reilly, Brandon Hanlan, Mikael Ndjoli SIXTY MINS LINE UP: Joe Walsh, Barry Fuller, Jack Tucker, Connor Ogilvie, Bradley Garmston, Mark Byrne, Darren Oldaker, Ousseynou Cisse, Elliott List, Trialist (This Player Was Mikael Mandron) and Regan Charles-Cook SUBS: Miquel Scarlett, Henry Woods and Roman Campbell - Gillingham had taken A Twenty Five Man Squad With Them To Folkestone Invicta and it was a very strong squad as well.
I asked The Gillingham Social Media Team who were the two players on trial, and I was told that they knew who the players were, but they could not disclose who the players were, But if we were to find out who the players are on trial then that is a different story, Because there has been so much talk regarding Mikael Mandron, I was confident that the striker on trial was The Former Colchester United Striker, But I had no idea who was starting at Left Back For The Gills, But at least the squad numbers were announced for the players in this friendly, which really does help Diane finding out who is who.
Ben and Ben’s Dad caught up with me, and I showed Ben the squad-sheet for this match against Folkestone Invicta, And More Importantly, The Squad Numbers, Ben mentioned that he will be going to Bearsted on Monday Night, And I mentioned that I was going to go to that game as well, simply because I will get the opportunity to tick off a new stadium on Monday Night, Because other then Ipswich Town, I will not have any new stadiums to go to, Bolton Wanderers and Rotherham United were relegated into League One, and I have been to there stadiums before, While MK Dons, Bury, Tranmere Rovers and Lincoln City have all gained promotion from League Two, So there are no promoted clubs playing at new stadiums, I will need to try and find a way of traveling to Bearsted and which train station I need to go to, and how far away is the ground from the train station, Because Nicholas mentions that the stadium is in the middle of no-where.
Both teams came out on to the pitch and lined up in-front of the dugout, and Gillingham will be kicking towards The Wilmoths Citroen End, While Folkestone Invicta will be kicking towards The Remland (Cheriton End) Stand, And Ben stood behind the end Gillingham are kicking towards in the first half, that’s one of the main advantages of playing against Local Kent Non League Opposition In Pre-Season, You can move around the stadium and early sign’s suggest that there is a decent turnout for Folkestone Invicta V Gillingham In Pre-Season, Hopefully, Gillingham can build on our 9-1 Win Against Faversham Town with another win against Folkestone Invicta this afternoon - COME ON THE GILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FIRST HALF:
And right at the very start of the match, Folkestone Invicta are penalised for a challenge on Mikael Ndjoli, And Gillingham have been awarded a free kick down the left side of the pitch in Folkestone Invicta’s Final Third, And It Is From This Free Kick where Gillingham open the scoring after the second minute of the game, Nathan Thomas passes the ball short to Callum Reilly, who cuts inside looking to whip in an dangerous in-swinging cross, But Callum Really passes the ball through to Nathan Thomas on the over-lap, And Nathan Thomas takes one touch to control the ball and another to curl the ball into the left corner of the net from an acute angle and Tim Roberts In The Folkestone Invicta Goal was perhaps expecting a cross rather then a shot, But Nathan Thomas has managed to stick the ball into the back of the net - And Gillingham are working on these short corner kick and short free kick routines, and they are very interesting, especially when Gillingham are in a match which is goal-less, because a short free kick routine can be the difference between a goal-less draw and a hard fought 1-0 win.
Matty Willock is then penalised for his challenge on Josh Vincent, And From The Resulting Free Kick, Callum Reilly shows decent defensive work down the left side of the pitch to win Gillingham A Throw On, And If Gillingham do go into The 2019 / 2020 Season lining up with a 4.4.2 formation, then both wingers are going to have to do plenty of defensive work as well as doing plenty of attacking and getting up and down the pitch.
Folkestone Invicta are then penalised for a reckless challenge on Stuart O’Keefe in the middle of the park, and from here, Matty Willock passes the ball short to Brandon Hanlan, who boots the ball down the left side of the pitch, And Callum Reilly does manage to keep the ball in play, But Callum Reilly see’s his dangerous cross towards the far post cleared by the hosts, One thing Me and Diane have noticed is that Referee Nick Dunn keeps getting himself involved in the play by being to close to the ball, and this didn’t happen at all a week ago, Because Nick Dunn was also Referee When Faversham Town Played Against Gillingham At Salters Lane.
Six Minutes Into The Match, And Gillingham really should have doubled the score-line to 2-0, Matty Willock manages to pick out Lee Hodson in space with a decent pass down the right side of the pitch, And Lee Hodson takes a touch to control the ball before passing the ball square to Nathan Thomas, who passes the ball to Matty Willock in a central position on the pitch, and Matty Willock passes the ball out-wide to Joe Skarz, who takes a touch to control the ball, And Joe Skarz passes the ball back inside to Matty Willock, who passes the ball square to Nathan Thomas, And Nathan Thomas lays the ball off to Matty Willock, who takes a few touches in possession of the ball before playing a fantastic pass over the top down the right side of the pitch to Lee Hodson, who takes a touch to control the ball before whipping in a cross towards the far post and Callum Reilly has completely missed the ball and Brandon Hanlan manages to keep the ball in play, And Brandon Hanlan is twisting and turning and causing Folkestone Invicta’s Defence all sorts of problems, And Brandon Hanlan lays the ball off to Callum Reilly on the edge of the penalty area, And Callum Reilly takes a touch to control the ball before dragging his shot wide of Tim Robert’s Right Hand Post - But the first chance really should have seen Callum Reilly stick the ball into the back of the net though.
A Minute Later, And Gillingham are again causing Folkestone Invicta Problems At The Back, Mikael Ndjoli’s Pace is allowing the young striker to push Gillingham further up the pitch, And Mikael Ndjoli passes the ball towards Nathan Thomas, And Nathan Thomas plays the ball through to Callum Reilly, who had made a third man run, And Callum Reilly’s Attempted Cross ricochets off Josh Vincent and the ball hits Callum Reilly and goes out of play for A Folkestone Invicta Goal-Kick.
Joe Skarz is well positioned defensively to kick the ball into touch for A Folkestone Invicta Throw On, We haven’t seen much from The Left Back On Trial At Gillingham, Mostly because Gillingham have been on the front-foot from the first whistle, And A Minute Later, Pressure From Brandon Hanlan, who was doing his defensive work from the front, Forces Goalkeeper Tim Roberts to gather the ball close to his eighteen yard line, the pace from Mikael Ndjoli and Brandon Hanlan is going to cause Folkestone Invicta problems throughout the first half.
Gillingham are yet again in the ascendency, and Callum Reilly see’s his dangerous in-swinging cross headed partially clear and away from danger by Finn O’Mara, and the second ball drops to Stuart O’Keefe, who passes the ball square to Matty Willock, And Matty Willock takes a touch to control the ball before managing to pick out Mikael Ndjoli with an accurate pass over the top down the left side of the pitch, However, Mikael Ndjoli was flagged for offside and the chance had gone for The Gills.
However, In The Fourteenth Minute Of The Match, And Despite Gillingham being on the front-foot throughout the opening stages of this game, Folkestone Invicta should have equalised, Nathan Thomas cheaply gives the ball away to Scott Heard in the middle of midfield, And Scott Heard goes on a driving run forward in possession of the ball, And Scott Heard plays a neat one / two with Jenson Dos Santos, And Lee Hodson makes a fantastic goal saving challenge to deny Scott Heard from getting a shot off on goal, But The follow up effort from Jenson Dos Santos is cleared off the line by Alfie Jones and Gillingham manage to get the ball clear, and Callum Reilly runs forwards in possession of the ball, And Callum Reilly runs towards the halfway line and passes the ball back to Stuart O’Keefe, who passes the ball back to Max Ehmer, And Max Ehmer passes the ball forwards to Matty Willock, who manages to evade two challenges before threading the ball through to Brandon Hanlan, And Brandon Hanlan is through down the right side of Folkestone Invicta’s Penalty Area, And Brandon Hanlan see’s his low effort on goal saved by Tim Roberts, who stood big during the one on one counter to deny Brandon Hanlan from doubling Gillingham’s Advantage, And From The Resulting Corner Kick, Callum Reilly’s Dangerous In-Swinging Cross is cleared away from danger, and Stuart O’Keefe gets to the second ball and passes the ball out-out-wide to Lee Hodson, And Lee Hodson passes the ball centrally to Alfie Jones, who almost picks out Matty Willock with a clever ball on the top, And Matty Willock cannot header the ball on target, However, had Matty Willock headed the ball into the back of the net, the goal would not have stood, because The Linesman had his flag raised for offside against Matty Willock.
A Minute Later, And Folkestone Invicta thought they were through on goal, But Jenson Dos Santos was flagged for offside, and that offside decision looked very close in my opinion, Folkestone Invicta Supporters were not pleased with that decision at all, And In The Nineteenth Minute Of The Match, Gillingham manage to win themselves a corner kick, Callum Reilly does brilliantly to control a long pass down-field with an excellent first touch, and this allowed Callum Reilly to get the ball under control, skip past Josh Vincent’s Attempted Challenge And Michael Everett kicks the ball over the uncovered terrace and out of play for A Gillingham Corner Kick, And From The Resulting Corner Kick, Nathan Thomas whips in an dangerous in-swinging cross and Josh Vicent headers the ball behind for another Gillingham Corner Kick, And From The Second Corner Kick, Nathan Thomas whips in another fantastic cross which is headed partially clear and away from danger, and the second ball drops kindly into Matty Willock’s Path, And Matty Willock and Nathan Thomas are not on the same wave-length, Because Matty Willock’s Pass goes out of play for A Folkestone Invicta Goal-Kick.
Joe Skarz was well positioned to header the ball back to Jack Bonham a minute later, However, In The Twenty Third Minute Of The Match, Gillingham had the chance to extend the lead further into there favour, Brandon Hanlan see’s his low cross across the face of goal cleared partially clear and away from danger, however, the second ball comes back to Brandon Hanlan, who manages to keep the ball in play, and Brandon Hanlan passes the ball back to Joe Skarz, And Joe Scarz takes a touch to control the ball before threading the ball through towards Brandon Hanlan by the byline, And Brandon Hanlan is twisting and turning, and Brandon Hanlan manages to dig out a cross towards the far post, And Mikael Ndjoli’s looping header just goes wide of the far right post.
But In The Twenty Fourth Minute Of The Match, Folkestone Invicta had the chance to equalise, Kieron McCann has whipped in a sensational in-swinging cross down the left side of the pitch in Gillingham’s Final Third And Jenson Dos Santos climbs highest to header the ball over Gillingham’s Crrosbar - But only just over the bar - And Folkestone Invicta are causing Gillingham a few problems defensively, and this match is a much sterner test then The Faversham Town V Gillingham Game A Week Ago.
Callum Reilly then see’s a threaded through-ball through to Mikael Ndjoli Intercepted, However, In The Twenty Fifth Minute Of The Match, Gillingham almost doubled there lead, Stuart O’Keefe has possession of the ball for Gillingham roughly twenty five yards out from goal, And Stuart O’Keefe manages to thread the ball through to Brandon Hanlan down the left side of Folkestone Invicta’s Penalty Area, And Brandon Hanlan’s curling effort towards goal beats Goalkeeper Tim Roberts, But Finn O’Mara was in the right place at the right time to clear the ball off the goal-line, and the follow up effort from Callum Reilly was blocked by Josh Vincent and Stuart O’Keefe’s Low Effort Towards Goal was then blocked by Finn O’Mara, However, Matt Newman is down injured for Folkestone Invicta and requires treatment, And after getting some help back on to his feat by Finn O’Mara, Matt Newman was unable to continue and has to be substituted for Charlie Dickens, and that would have been a disappointing blow for Matt Newman, Because I am sure that The Folkestone Invicta Player would have been eager to test himself against Football League Opposition.
The stoppage in play because of Matt Newman’s Injury and some very strong challenges not seeing free kicks awarded for free kicks has just seen this match get more bite in the middle of the park, Stuart O’Keefe wasn’t penalised for his challenge in the middle of the park, And Max Ehmer’s Challenge on Jenson Dos Santos was a foul, And Referee Nick Dunn is letting a few challenges go at this moment in time.
But Folkestone Invicta were putting Gillingham under a lot of pressure defensively, and the hosts on two separate occasions had chances to equalise, Johan Ter Horst managed to get in and behind Gillingham’s Defence, and The Linesman’s Flag stayed down, and from an acute angle, Johan Ter Horst fires a low shot across the face of goal and Johan Ter Horst’s Low shot towards goal just goes wide of the far left post, however, Jason Dos Santos manages to keep the ball in play and Kieron McCann passes the ball back to Scott Heard, who passes the ball inside to Ian Draycott, And Ian Draycott has to pass the ball out-wide to Josh Vincent, who plays the ball inside to Scott Heard, And The Folkestone Invicta Midfielder slips the ball through to Jenson Dos Santos and Johan Ter Horst, And Jenson Dos Santos cannot get a shot away on goal, while Johan Ter Horst is twisting and turning inside Gillingham’s Penalty Area, And Jack Bonham and Lee Hodson do enough between the two of them to scramble the ball clear and Gillingham manage to clear there lines - And Steve Evans is fuming in the dugout.
Folkestone Invicta create another goal-scoring opportunity a minute later, With Jack Bonham required to save Ian Draycott’s low curling effort which was on target, And from here, Matty Willock see’s his clipped pass down the line towards Brandon Hanlan intercepted and cleared for A Gillingham Throw On, Lee Hodson is also penalised for a foul and while that free kick is awarded in Folkestone Invicta’s Favour, Nathan Thomas goes down injured requiring treatment and this stoppage in play allows Steve Evans to pass on a few instructions to the players on the pitch, Thankfully, after a few moments, Nathan Thomas is OK to continue playing, But if Gillingham need to take any precautions, then it would be sensible to substitute Nathan Thomas and not take any risks with players carrying any knocks or niggles.
In The Thirty Seventh Minute Of The Game, Pressure from Mikael Ndjoli and Brandon Hanlan forces Finn O’Mara to header the ball back to Tim Roberts, However, In The Thirty Eighth Minute Of The Match, Folkestone Invicta should have equalised, Because Johan Ter Horst plays a one / two with Scott Heard and Johan Ter Horst takes a touch before firing a dangerous shot across the face of goal which flashes wide of the far left post, and that was a guilt edge golden goal-scoring opportunity for Folkestone Invicta, who deserve to have scored at least one goal in this match.
And Folkestone Invicta’s Failure to take one or two of the goal-scoring opportunities they have created over the past five minutes proved to be costly, Because Gillingham doubled the score-line to 2-0 after Thirty Nine Minutes, Brandon Hanlan uses his pace to work his way towards the byline and run towards goal and Brandon Hanlan manages to pick out Mikael Ndjoli just out-side the six yard line, And Mikael Ndjoli takes a touch to control the ball before placing the ball into the bottom left corner of the net with a low accurate finish, And Callum Reilly makes sure that he doesn’t make contact with the ball because Callum Reilly could have been flagged for offside by The Linesman, Considering the recent goal-scoring opportunities for Folkestone Invicta, 2-0 to Gillingham does appear to be a flattering score-line, However, Brandon Hanlan has had one effort cleared off the line so Gillingham could have been 2-0 up prior to Mikael Ndjoli doubling Gillingham’s Lead.
Forty Minutes Into The Match, And Josh Vicent is penalised for his challenge on Callum Reilly, However, In The Same Minute Of The Match, And Folkestone Invicta had the chance to half the deficit to 1-2, Ian Draycott slips the ball through to Jenson Dos Santos inside Gillingham’s Penalty Area, And Jenson Dos Santos has somehow fired his effort wide of Gillingham’s Far Left Post, Mikael Ndjoli then concedes two fouls in quick succession, and from the second foul, Folkestone Invicta almost scored again, Kieron McCann almost manages to pick out the top right corner of the net with a magnificent curling effort which only just flashes over Jack Bonham’s Crossbar, and that was the chance for Folkestone Invicta to score.
But right on The Forty Fifth Minute and just before half time, Folkestone Invicta created a few goal-scoring opportunities in quick succession, Scott Heard has possession of the ball twenty five yards out from goal, and Scott Heard and Josh Vincent pass the ball about, and the same players link up with a neat one two and Scott Heard plays the ball through to Josh Vincent by the byline, And Josh Vincent fires in a first time low cross towards the near post and Jenson Dos Santos see’s his low effort towards goal saved by Jack Bonham from point blank range and Max Ehmer makes a fantastic last ditch block to prevent Scott Heard from scoring, and Kieron McCann is on to the loose ball and stands the ball up towards the far post and Scott Heard’s Looping Header clips the top of the crossbar, And Gillingham go in at half time with a 2-0 advantage, But Folkestone Invicta deserve to be on the score-sheet at the very least.
HALF TIME: FOLKESTONE INVICTA 0-2 GILLINGHAM
I posted the following on to Twitter At Half Time, HT: FOLKESTONE INVICTA 0-2 GILLINGHAM - Thomas and Ndjoli have got themselves on the score-sheet for Gillingham in what has been a much sterner test for The Gills, Because Folkestone have forced Bonham to make a few saves, Hanlan saw his effort cleared off the line by O’Mara. - Looking back on the first half, Brandon Hanlan had his curling effort cleared off the line by Finn O’Mara, Callum Reilly missed an absolute sitter from Lee Hodson’s Cross and Tim Roberts has made an excellent one on one save to prevent Brandon Hanlan from scoring, However, Jenson Dos Santos has fired one effort wide, he has also seen a point blank effort saved by Jack Bonham, Scott Heard’s Header clipped the top of the crossbar, Johan Ter Horst has seen one effort flash wide of the far left post, and Jenson Dos Santos see’s an effort on goal cleared off the line by Alfie Jones, Folkestone Invicta do deserve to have scored at least one goal from the goal-scoring opportunities they have created in the opening forty five minutes of this match.
Nicholas caught up with Me and Diane at half time, and we got speaking about the first half performance and how 2-0 to Gillingham does in-fact flatter us a bit, Because Folkestone Invicta do deserve to have one goal in the first half at the very least, But Folkestone Invicta are giving Gillingham a much sterner test and Gillingham have had more to do defensively in this match, Because Gillingham could have won 16-1 against Faversham Town, because there was such a huge difference in-terms of the levels of both football clubs, but also, the intensity Gillingham played at was something that Faversham Town could not cope with.
I mentioned to Nicholas that I will be going to Bearsted on Monday, And Nicholas was hoping to go to the friendly on Monday Night, And Nicholas mentioned that the ground is in the middle of no-where, and Diane mentioned that she wasn’t going to Bearsted and was wondering how I was going to travel to the football stadium, Because Nicholas pointed out that the football stadium is in the middle of no-where, I then mentioned to Nicholas that we will probably play against Bearsted In The Kent Senior Cup just a few months after playing against them in pre-season.
Nicholas decided to head towards the goal Gillingham were attacking in the second half, And we were waiting for both teams to get back on to the pitch before The Second Half begins, Because Me And Diane stood on the halfway line, we didn’t need to move, also, the queue for food and drink at half time was completely packed and it’s a good thing I brought something to eat and drink when it was quiet inside The Fullicks Stadium, Hopefully, We get to see a few more goals from The Gills In The Second Half, But we also need to be wary that Folkestone Invicta don’t get themselves on the score-sheet, because they have caused Gillingham plenty of problems defensively.
SECOND HALF:
And Gillingham have only made one substitution at half time and not wholesale changes, Bradley Garmston came on to replace trialist Joe Skarz, (I actually thought that Miquel Scarlett had initially came on at first), as for Joe Skarz performance in the first half, It’s difficult to judge Joe Skarz on only forty five minutes of a pre-season friendly against Folkestone Invicta, But If Gillingham are looking to sign A Left Back, then whoever Gillingham sign needs to be an improvement on what we have got already, when fully fit, Bradley Garmston can be a fantastic left back for Gillingham, But I think whoever Gillingham are looking to sign will be someone who Steve Evans considers to be Gillingham’s First Choice Left Back.
And the first noteworthy moment of the second half see’s Gillingham on the offensive with Lee Hodson running down the right wing, And Lee Hodson see’s his high and hanging cross headed clear and away from danger by Finn O’Mara and Brandon Hanlan is penalised for a foul on the edge of Folkestone Invicta’s Penalty Area, However, If we’re thinking that the second half is going to be one way traffic, then Folkestone Invicta have got other idea’s, because Alfie Jones is well positioned to clear Jenson Dos Santos’s dangerous low cross clear and away from danger, And Folkestone Invicta’s Strike-Force of Jenson Dos Santos and Johan Ter Horst are giving Gillingham plenty to think about defensively.
Forty Nine Minutes Into The Match, And Callum Reilly manages to intercept Scott Heard’s Pass out-wide, And Bradley Garmston gets on to the loose ball, And Bradley Garmston see’s his dangerous in-swinging cross cleared away from danger by Finn O’Mara, And A Minute Later, Mikael Ndjoli and Scott Heard having a coming together down the right side of the pitch in Folkestone Invicta’s Final Third, And there was a altercation between Scott Hard and Mikael Ndjoli and both players needed to be kept apart, Also, I have no idea how The Linesman awarded a free kick in Folkestone Invicta’s Favour when Mikael Ndjoli was fouled.
Matty Willock was then penalised for a foul a minute later and maybe that earlier decision to award a free kick against Mikael Ndjoli just had ticked off a few Gillingham Players along with the altercation that followed, Folkestone Invicta then make another substitution as Alfie Paxman comes on to replace Ian Draycott, And After that substitution had been made, Scott Heard tries to thread the ball through to Johan Ter Horst to run on to, But Max Ehmer does really well to shield the ball out of play for A Gillingham Goal-Kick, Folkestone Invicta are then awarded a free kick down the left side of the pitch when Bradley Garmston is penalised for his challenge on Jenson Dos Santos, And From The Resulting Free Kick, Scott Heard has whipped in an dangerous in-swinging cross which Max Ehmer was able to header clear and away from danger for A Folkestone Invicta Throw On.
Matty Willock is then penalised for hand-ball on the halfway line as Gillingham look to get on the front-foot and score the all important third goal, which would put Gillingham in a fantastic position to win our second senior first pre-season friendly in a row - Deal Town won 4-2 against A Gillingham XI Side On The Ninth Of July - And A Minute Later, Max Ehmer manages to clear a dangerous in-swinging cross partially clear and away from danger, but the chance was still there for Folkestone Invicta to get themselves back into this match, because Alfie Paxman passes the ball out-wide to Kieron McCann, who manages to take on Lee Hodson and work his way towards the byline, However, Kieron McCann’s Cross hits the back of The Wilmoths Citroen End, and the ball goes out of play for A Gillingham Goal-Kick.
Sixty Minutes Into The Match, And Gillingham have been awarded a penalty kick, Bradley Garmston whips in an dangerous in-swinging cross towards the far post and Nat Blanks pulls Brandon Hanlan back inside the penalty area, And Gillingham have the chance to extend the score-line further in there favour from the penalty spot, And up steps Brandon Hanlan to just about stick the ball into the bottom left corner of the net, Because Folkestone Invicta Goalkeeper Tim Roberts dived the right way, but he could not prevent Brandon Hanlan from making the score-line 3-0 to The Gills.
And after that goal had gone in, Gillingham had made ten substitutions, And Gillingham Lined Up As Follows For The Final Thirty Minutes Of The Match,,,,, Joe Walsh, Barry Fuller, Jack Tucker, Connor Ogilvie, Bradley Garmston (Only Player To Remain On The Pitch), Mark Byrne, Darren Oldaker, Ousseynou Cisse, Elliott List, Regan Charles-Cook and Mikael Mandron up-front, who is on trial at Gillingham.
And after the re-start, Connor Ogilvie plays a long pass down the line towards Mikael Mandron, And The Striker On Trial manages to win Gillingham A Throw On, And Gillingham had the chance to extend there lead further to 4-0, Elliott List uses his pace down the left side of the pitch to work himself into a bit of space, And Elliott Lost cuts inside before whipping in an dangerous in-swinging cross towards the far post and Mark Byrne just cannot quite manage to get himself on to the end of Elliott List’s Cross, and the ball runs out of play for A Folkestone Invicta Goal-Kick, And In The Sixty Fifth Minute Of The Match, Bradley Garmston whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross which Tim Roberts was able to gather with ease, And From Here, Tim Roberts kicks the ball long down-field and Jenson Dos Santos flicks the ball on towards Kieron McCann, But The Folkestone Invicta Winger was flagged for offside when he received the ball.
And A Minute Later, Diane and Myself could not believe that Alfie Paxman wasn’t penalised for his challenge on Regan Charles-Cook, And A Minute Later, Elliott List see’s his dangerous low in-swinging cross saved by Tim Roberts, While Striker Trialists Mikael Mandron, who perhaps was eager to impress Steve Evans to secure himself a contract, had the option to either go for goal himself, or play the ball through to Regan Charles-Cook, And Mikael Mandron did neither and was intercepted and the chance had gone for The Gills.
Joe Walsh is then called into action on two separate occasions, firstly, to catch a dangerous in-swinging cross from Natt Blanks, and secondly, to come rushing out of his goal and Joe Walsh kicks the ball into touch at the expense of conceding a throw on for Folkestone Invicta, But Gillingham are still looking to extend the score-line to 4-0, Mikael Mandron plays a fantastic threaded through-ball down the right side of the pitch towards Regan Charles-Cook, who is flagged offside by The Linesman, While Ousseynou Cisse tries to pick out Darren Oldaker with a ball over the top which is over-hit and runs out of play for A Folkestone Invicta Goal-Kick.
Regan Charles-Cook is the next player to try and put his name on to the score-sheet, Because Regan Charles-Cook see’s his shot on target from twenty yards out saved by Tim Roberts who dived low to his right, It was a nice bit of skill from Regan Charles-Cook to create the goal-scoring opportunity all by himself, And In The Seventy Fifth Minute Of The Match, Jenson Dos Santos is offside for Folkestone Invicta, And In Gillingham’s Next Attacking Opportunity, Regan Charles-Cook uses his pace to get on the end of Bradley Garmston’s Pass Down The Left Side Of The Pitch, And Regan Charles-Cook has flicked the ball off A Folkestone Invicta Defender to win Gillingham A Corner Kick, And From The Resulting Corner Kick, Regan Charles-Cook whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross towards the far post and Jack Tucker gets himself up and underneath the ball to header a looping header over Folkestone Invicta’s Crossbar.
Folkestone Invicta then had the chance to try and get themselves on the score-sheet, And Josh Vincent has whipped in a deep cross towards the far post which is over-hit and runs out of play for A Gillingham Goal-Kick, But Folkestone Invicta were awarded a free kick within shooting territory, because Ousseynou Cisse gave away a free kick in a very promising position, And From The Resulting Free Kick, Natt Blanks whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross and Connor Ogilvie wins the initial aerial challenge and Ousseynou Cisse manages to kick the ball clear and away from danger.
But In The Eighty Second Minute Of The Match, Gillingham do manage to make the score-line 4-0 in Gillingham’s Favour, Regan Charles-Cook uses his pace to work his way towards the byline and take on Charlie Dickens, before rolling the ball across the face of goal, and there was Mikael Mandron to stick the ball into the back of the net, and there wasn’t much that substitute goalkeeper Joe Coleman could do about that, For Mikael Mandron, scoring while on trial for Gillingham will only help his cause for earning a contract at The Gills.
Elliott List then manages to win A Free Kick For Gillingham after play resumed, But rather then be on the offensive, Jack Tucker had to be well positioned to header the ball back to Joe Walsh and prevent Jenson Dos Santos from getting on to the end of a long ball over the top, Jack Tucker is certainly putting himself into contention for a spot in Gillingham’s First Team while Gabriel Zakuiani is out injured on the sidelines, And From Here, Joe Walsh rolls the ball short to Barry Fuller, who kicks the ball long down the right side of the pitch, However, Regan Charles-Cook is flagged for offside and that offside decision looked very close, and potentially, Regan Charles-Cook looked liked he was onside as well.
However, In The Eighty Seventh Minute, Gillingham almost made the score-line 5-0, Gillingham were awarded a free kick after Elliott List was fouled down the left side of the pitch, and from the resulting free kick, Darren Oldaker whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross and Charlie Dickens manages to header the ball partially clear and away from danger, but Mark Byrne gets to the loose ball first and passes the ball down the line towards Ousseynou Cisse, And Ousseynou Cisse passes the ball inside to Elliott List, and although the challenge on Elliott List was strong, the ball ricochets back to Ousseynou Cisse, who passes the ball down the line towards Mark Byrne, And Mark Byrne’s first time low cross ricochets towards Mikael Mandron, who retains possession of the ball before laying the ball off to Elliott List, And Elliott List works his way into a shooting position by side-side-stepping past one attempted challenge, And Elliott List see’s his shot on target saved by Joe Coleman up into the air and the ball bounces off the top of the crossbar and Joe Coleman somehow claws the ball out of the net and denies Connor Ogilvie from scoring a simple tap in - And you have got to say that the reaction save from Joe Coleman was exceptional.
And at the other end of the pitch, Connor Ogilvie’s Back-Pass to Joe Walsh was woefully under-hit and Johan ter Horst almost manages to get on to the loose ball, But Joe Walsh times his interception to perfection, Joe Walsh has shown his goalkeeping capabilities from the two matches we have seen from him so far, and the fact that Gillingham have given the young Goalkeeper A Three Year Contract, which tells me that Joe Walsh is more then capable of being understudy to Jack Bonham, But I do think that Steve Evans will look to sign another goalkeeper to be Gillingham’s Second Choice Keeper, Perhaps someone will sign for Gillingham on A Season Long Loan.
Bradley Garmston then see’s a dangerous in-swinging cross routinely saved by Joe Coleman, And Gillingham continue to push to try and score the fifth goal of the game, Because Darren Oldaker tries to pick out Mark Byrne with a chipped pass over the top which is slightly over-hit and runs out of play for A Folkestone Invicta Goal-Kick, And in the final noteworthy moments of the match, Bradley Garmston whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross towards the far post, which Barry Fuller manages to keep in play, And Barry Fuller whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross which is headed clear and away from danger, and after that defensive clearance, Referee Nick Dunn blows the whistle for Full Time, And Gillingham have won 4-0 against Folkestone Invicta.
FULL TIME: FOLKESTONE INVICTA 0-4 GILLINGHAM
I think Folkestone Invicta can consider themselves unlucky not to get themselves on the score-sheet, especially on the goal-scoring opportunities created in the first half, Mikael Ndjoli, Nathan Thomas and Brandon Hanlan have all managed to get themselves on the score-sheet for Gillingham and it is good to see the goals divided amongst many players during pre-season, Because I don’t think Gillingham can find a direct replacement for Tom Eaves, So Gillingham may have to spread the goals around the team for The 2019 / 2020 Season.
Mikael Mandron can only help his cause for earning himself a contract after scoring Gillingham’s Fourth Goal, it is difficult to make any judgement on a striker who is on trial and someone who only played for the final thirty minutes of the match against Folkestone Invicta, So it will be interesting to see what Mikael Mandron can do in the up and coming pre-season friendlies against Dartford, Charlton Athletic and Millwall, Because I am sure that Mikael Mandron will be involved for Gillingham over the next few pre-season friendlies, as for left back Joe Scarz, and again it is harsh to judge a player on trial in one match, But I think Gillingham are looking to sign a first choice left back and someone who is going to be better then what we have got at the football club already.
Me and Diane got speaking with Colin after the game, And it is good to see Gillingham win 4-0 against Folkestone Invicta, and we got speaking about the squad depth and competition for places this season, And I do think that the squad has got more depth in midfield, and the signings of Stuart O’Keefe and Ousseynou Cisse provide Gillingham with two solid defensive midfielders, and this was an area of the team that was exposed unless Billy Bingham was fit and available for selection, I do think that there is plenty of pace in this Gillingham Side with Brandon Hanlan, Elliott List, Regan Charles-Cook, Mikael Ndjoli and Nathan Thomas, and those five are all capable of scoring goals, but trying to find a replacement for Tom Eaves is going to be very difficult.
Me and Diane then said c ya to Colin before heading towards the exit, And we got speaking about the friendlies we have got coming up, and the friendlies are fast approaching now, Bearsted Away is on The 15th Of July, 16th Of July Is Dartford Away, 19th, 20th and 21st of July is Chatham Town Away and the home matches against Charlton Athletic and Millwall at Priestfield Stadium, The 23rd Of July Is Dover Athletic Away, 26th of July Is Gillingham V Southend United, The 27th Of July Is Stevenage V Gillingham and Sheppey United V Gillingham, And The 29th Of July Is Welling United V Gillingham.
Diane mentioned that she is only going to go to Dartford, Chatham Town and the home pre-season friendlies, both of us are not going to Stevenage, Because it is to far and it is best to save money up during the season, I mentioned to Diane that I am going to Bearsted and I need to look into how I am going to get to Bearsted via train and how do I get to the football stadium, I am still surprised that Gillingham are playing against Southend United, simply because of the fact that I always thought that there was an unwritten rule that two Football League Clubs in the same division cannot play against each other in pre-season.
Me and Diane got speaking with Bradley Garmston, who mentioned that he is now back to full fitness and he is raring to go for this coming season and is glad to be back, Bradley Garmston has spoken about how strong a test this pre-season has been and these pre-season friendlies just allow the players to tick over nicely before the season starts, I think it’s too early to start saying who will start, who’s on the bench and who won’t make the eighteen man match-day squad, Because Steve Evans is looking to add more players to the squad, and other players like promising youngsters Jack Tucker and Joe Walsh are doing what they can to try and force there way into Gillingham’s First Team.
I said C Ya To Diane, before heading back towards Folkestone West Train Station, And I arrived at Folkestone West Train Station At 17.35PM, And there was A Forty Minute Wait for the next train, And while I was waiting on the platform, I posted the following on Twitter,,,,, FULL TIME: FOLKESTONE INVICTA 0-4 GILLINGHAM - Thomas, Ndjoli, Hanlan and Mandron were all on the score-sheet for Gillingham Today, Feel free to ask me any questions you have about today's match., I also re-tweeted Gillingham’s Tweet regarding the full time score-line, And The Attendance was 681, And I actually thought that there was more supporters inside The Fullicks Stadium then 681 to be completely honest.
Bury named twenty two trialists for there pre-season friendly against Nantwich Town, And the situation at Bury is getting worse and worse every single week, I think almost every player who helped get Bury promoted into League One have gone now, and Manager Ryan Lowe has gone to Plymouth Argyle, And there are clear financial problems at Bury which will hopefully be sorted out as soon as possible.
I got on The 18.15PM Train towards Dover Priory, and when we arrived at Dover Priory, the plan was to get on to the train which headed towards London Victoria, But the train I got on, was a train heading towards Ebbsfleet International and Ashford International, and that train went back the way we came, so that meant a longer trip back home then planned, the plan was go to Ebbsfleet International and get the train back to Rainham from there.
While I was on the train, I sent out the following tweet, Mandron - And he scored Gillingham's fourth goal against Folkestone Invicta Today., Because Stephen wanted to know who was the striker on trial playing for Gillingham, While I also sent out the following tweet, Jack Tucker put in a very decent display at centre back for Gillingham Today, And With Connor Ogilvie Max Ehmer Gabriel Zakuani Alfie Jones and Jack Tucker as Gillingham's Senior Options At Central Back, Gillingham have got enough central defensive cover for the 19/20 Season. - Jack Tucker is taking the opportunity he is getting at the moment with both hands, Because I am sure that if Gabriel Zakuani is fully fit, then Jack Tucker would have been in Gillingham’s Squad for Monday’s Friendly against Bearsted.
Gillingham had also posted a few photo’s on to there Social Media Account, While Chatham Town are getting there ground ready for Friday Night’s Friendly Against Gillingham, And the new 3G does look very impressive, In one of the video clips posted by Chatham Town, I thought the main stand had been knocked down, But in a more recent photo, the main stand is still standing, Because Gillingham are playing against Charlton Athletic and Millwall on Saturday and Sunday, I cannot see Chatham Town V Gillingham getting a very high attendance, and the fact that this match kicks off at 7PM could mean a low turnout.
I then sent the following response to Gills Debate, If Steve Evans is looking to sign two strikers, Then I think Gillingham need to sign a old fashioned centre forward, and someone who is a goal poacher. Rather than have one striker signed to try and replace Eaves Goals, We might see Hanlan, Ndjoli, List, Charles-Cook, Willock, Reilly, Thomas, And the two additional strikers who Gillingham will sign this summer, chipping in with 8-12 goals for the 19/20 Season - I do think that the goals will be spread around the team this season, But trying to find someone to replace Tom Eaves will be difficult, not because of the goal threat he provided for Gillingham, But when we needed the ball to stick up top to relieve pressure on to the defence, or someone to win the flick on’s, Tom Eaves was capable of leading the line for The Gills, He will be a difficult striker to replace.
However, There was a big announcement on Saturday Night that Gillingham had put in a bid for a unnamed striker, The striker we are linked with is young and it will be interesting to see who Gillingham are linked with and who Gillingham are trying to sign, and plenty of names have been mentioned online, and there have been some very good suggestions on who Gillingham are looking to sign, But we are going to have to wait and see on what happens for the time being.
I then got off the train at Ebbsfleet International at 7.25PM, And I didn’t have long to wait for the train from Ebbsfleet International back to Rainham, It has been a much longer route back home again, But I am at least on the train heading towards Rainham, As for who this striker is that Gillingham are looking to sign, I did wonder if this striker is someone at Aston Villa, Sheffield United or Norwich City, because all three clubs have been promoted into The Premier League and there might be young players at these football clubs who are going to get very limited game-time during The 2019 / 2020 Season, And this isn’t A Season Long Loan for A Young Striker, Gillingham have actually put in a bid, so this will only increase speculation, and I am sure that we will hear more about this by the time Gillingham have played against Dartford, Chatham Town, Charlton Athletic and Millwall in pre-season.
I arrived back at Rainham Train Station At 8.10PM before heading to the local shop to buy Two Bottles Of Pepsi for £2.50, And I went to George’s Plaice to buy two Cheese-Burger’s For £5.20, and I spoke about Gillingham’s Match against Folkestone Invicta and what the score-line was, and how many friendlies Gillingham have got to play this summer before The League One Season Starts On The Third Of August.
Once I picked up my order, I went into Rainham Precent to sit down and eat my dinner, and once I was finished, I put the rubbish in the bin, before checking on Social Media regarding any news regarding the bid that Gillingham have put in, At the moment, this is going to be a guessing game, and some strikers suggested are better suggestions then others, but it could well be the case that none of the strikers mentioned is the striker who Gillingham have put a bid in for, I guess we will find out eventually who Gillingham are trying to sign over the next week or so.
I eventually got back home at 9PM, All in all, A Good Performance And A Good Result For The Gills, But also, there are things that need to be worked on, Because if I was A Folkestone Invicta Supporter, I would be wondering how or why we didn’t score against Gillingham Today, This match gave Gillingham a much sterner test then the game against Faversham Town a week earlier, and the test gets much stronger on Tuesday Night, Because Gillingham will be testing themselves against Conference South Opposition In Dartford, And Princes Park is always a decent football stadium to travel to, and this match will give us a good idea on how Gillingham are preparing themselves before the season starts, also, I think the team that ended the friendly against Folkestone Invicta will be the team that starts for Gillingham against Dartford, So we will get to see Mikael Mandron play for a hour and this will allow us more time to see how the trialist striker performs for Gillingham against stronger opposition.
The next friendly I will be going to is Bearsted, An opportunity for me to tick off a new football stadium, and hopefully, I will see A Young Gillingham Side put in a decent performance, before seeing how well Gillingham’s First Team plays against Dartford At Princes Park On Tuesday Night - COME ON THE GILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day, and since it’s June, it’s daylily season. Time for me to flit about the garden and wax rhapsodic about these big, bright perennials which take over for about two months each year. As I walked the back garden this evening, I pondered why daylilies garner so many gardeners’ imaginations including mine. I think it’s because they make the garden new every single day.
Special thanks to Carol of May Dreams Gardens for sponsoring Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day. Hop over to her site and see what’s blooming all over the world.
Echinacea ‘Cheyenne Spirit’ and many daylilies, including ‘Bricks Galore’ on the right, brighten my back garden.
Click on the galleries below to enlarge the photos and read the captions.
Hemerocallis ‘Small World 3D Snowflake’ (Miller-M., 2015) which is huge in the garden. This photo doesn’t really do it justice. It’s supposed to double, but it hasn’t in my garden thus far. It may not be hot enough yet. I bet to differ on that. It is listed as a Unusual Form, Crispate-Cascade-Spatulate, Double 95%.
Hemerocallis ‘Rolling Raven’ (Stamile, 2007), is a Spider with a 4.00:1 ratio. Spider people are very particular about their petal ratio measure. I just love this dark daylily.
Hemerocallis ‘Apache Beacon’ (N. Roberts 2005) is a Unusual Form Crispate which means the petals pinch. I love this flower so much. It truly is a beacon in the garden.
H. ‘Sunset in Oz’ (Herrington-T., 2015) is an Unusual Form Cascade which means its petals twirl and curl. I am really fond of the Oz series of daylilies, and I will be buying more. They are great garden performers.
Hemerocallis ‘Light as Air’ (Reed 2014) with ‘Cheyenne Spirit’ Echinacea.
No day during daylily season is the same. Flowers emerge fresh and beautiful each morning. If only we humans could do the same.
Each morning I run outside to catch new cultivars blooming for the first time, while earlier ones flower on new scapes (stems.) It makes for a whole different aspect each morning and evening as darker colors fade. As I look, I’m considering how my daylilies mingle with other plants creating new vignettes every daybreak. Maybe that’s why they captured me body and soul years ago.
Hemerocallis ‘Bullfrog Kisses’ with a small green frog. Kind of a funny parallel.
We are in the middle of Season Hemerocallis, and I don’t mind the takeover. I really don’t. I love all my flowers and fauna, but the daylilies hold a special place in my red-dirt-girl heart. Maybe it’s because they shelter the little green frogs in my garden. I like any plant that shelters or feeds a creature. Speaking of which, many daylilies are beloved by pollinators. Look closely, and you may see golden pollen spilled on many of the blooms as you go throughout your own garden. I find the little green metallic bees especially love daylilies.
Hemerocallis ‘Sherry Candy’ (Stamile 2006) is one my friends at the Central Oklahoma Hemerocallis Society said I needed. Boy, were they ever right! I’m not sure the photo does it justice.
H. ‘Sherry Candy’ (Stamile 2006) and H. ‘Mama’s Cherry Pie’ (Shooter-F., 1998) in the new border we expanded this year. it is just starting to take off, and I’m rather pleased with it.
H. ‘Prissy Girl’ thus far is a good example of a pretty face on a not-so-great plant. Now, it make take off next year and start blooming up out of the foliage, but not yet. If it doesn’t I will dig it up and throw it on the compost pile.
Oh, and we must not forget fragrance. Many daylilies are very fragrant. It may be a scent more subtle than true lilies, but it wafts over the garden like a sultry Samba dancer most mornings. The scent is another good reason to grow these beauties.
However, if we’re honest, we mostly grow daylilies for their sweet faces which can take almost any form from round bagels to wild twirling UFs floating on the Oklahoma breeze.
Hemerocallis ‘Harmonic Hues’ (Lambertson, 2012)
H. ‘American Classic’ (Trimmer, 2013) is actually listed as lavender, but it looks rather pink to me.
H. ‘Patrician Splendor’ (Stamile, 1996)
Hemerocallis Pink Lemonade Party (Salter, 2006).
In the beginning, I was all about the bagel form of daylilies because I loved their round shape. I still do, but I’m finding my newest purchases are Unformed or UF daylilies, crispate or cascading. I say I’m especially fond of cascading, but I’m not really sure that’s true. I have a lot of the crispate too. I think UFs blend into the garden landscape more readily than the large ruffled forms. I still grow those too though. I guess I’m not a daylily specialist.
Then, there was my pink period where I only collected pink cultivars especially those of Patrick Stamile. Now, you might say I’ve branched out a bit.
I’ve bought a lot of plants from James Hall, and he always sends along one of his cultivars. I’ve been pleased with most of them including ‘Buddy’s Yellow Bird.” It is another huge UF Crispate.
Hemerocallis ‘Ninja Storm’ with another daylily behind.
H. ‘Screamcicle’ screams its parentage of ‘Primal Scream’ and ‘Outrageous.’ It may not be your cup of tea, but I think it beckons us into the garden. I think it’s splendid.
Hemerocallis ‘Buddy’s Wild and Wonderful’ on the left and ‘Black Sheep’ on the right are two great daylilies I grow. ‘Buddy’s Black Jack’ is in there too, but I think it finished blooming.
Hemerocallis ‘Buddy’s Wild and Wonderful’ for a second photo. Sorry, i had to.
H. ‘Buddy’s Wild and Wonderful’ takes the most splendid photos and looks great against ‘Tamukeyama’ Japanese maple.
In addition to the daylilies, there are plenty of other plants blooming for GBBD. One I wanted to be sure and point out is ‘Phenomenal’ lavender. I’ve never seen a lavender thrive quite like it. Last year, during Garden Bloggers’ Fling in Washington, D.C., we were given a sample plant of this lavender, and Lloyd Traven told us we would love it. He was so right! Mine multiplied in size over the winter and is now huge. I liked it so much I bought three more plants to edge the potager. It thrives, and get this–pollinators love it. You should order some. I ordered four more ‘Phenomenal’ lavender plants from American Meadows today. They’re on sale for half price and will ship in the fall. Bear in mind though, mine are planted in the raised beds of the potager. All lavender wants excellent drainage.
In other words, don’t plant it in Oklahoma red clay. It will most likely drown.

Before we go, assuming you’re still with me, here are some shots of the garden right now. I think it’s quite pretty. Now, I’m going over to Carol’s blog to see what everyone else is growing. You should too.
Back garden with H. ‘Radiation Biohazard,’ ‘Guadalajara’ and ‘Red Headed Hussy.’ They make a pretty trio.
Back garden triangle just below the deck. It’s part of the original back garden that is almost 29 years old.
Back garden from the side as I come in the white arbor. The ‘Annabelle’ hydrangeas are at the end.
Probably my favorite photo in the post. I took it before the rains came. I’m standing in the new shade garden and shooting south.
A view of the center left side at the bottom of the back garden. This is one of four long beds.
New rose statue we picked up in Sandstone Gardens outside Joplin, MO. This little statue solves a problem for me. Beneath it is a large sandstone rock that I cannot move, and every year, I try to plant something there. Now, I won’t.
Sombrero Sangrita trial plant echinacea with ‘Laura Bush’ petunias. I’ll let you know how they do as the season progresses.
Sombrero Granada Gold echinacea trial plant. I quite like this color.
Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day: Daylily season It's Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, and since it's June, it's daylily season. Time for me to flit about the garden and wax rhapsodic about these big, bright perennials which take over for about two months each year.

The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) starring Richard Carlson, Julie Adams and Richard Denning
Clawing monster from a lost age strikes the Amazon’s forbidden depths!
Be a farmer or not, 1954 is a bumper crop—for horror movies.  Imagine, in a single year, the many delicious, delectable, diabolical—and sometimes dumb—exploits added to the distorted world of this particular genre.
Let’s see . . . among the “lower,” properly forgettable films of that year: Killers from Space, Monster from the Ocean Floor, Gog and Godzilla.  Deeper, deeper, at the murkiest bottom, the lower regions of nothingness: The Bowery Boys Meet the Monsters, Devil Girl from Mars, Monsters from the Rue Rogue and The Snow Creature.  But working quality upward, there’s light, and despite those who see a disreputable genre, some titles rise above that notoriety and become something more: The Mad Magician, Them! and The Naked Jungle.
And, in this year of 1954, what about The Creature from the Black Lagoon?  Where does it stand in this bubbling cauldron of hell-broth?  Some critics go so far as to endow the film with high praise indeed, that its creature, a resilient fish-man or gill-man—all monsters are “resilient,” just look at the armies which try to defeat them—belongs in the illustrious company of Dracula, the Frankenstein monster, the Wolf Man and the Mummy.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Truly, Creature, along with its monster, is one of the most original horrors of the 1950s.
Whatever its status among the horror hierarchy, the idea for Creature comes from the fertile—or festered?—mind of William Alland.  If the name is unfamiliar, it shouldn’t be: he’s Mr. Thompson the reporter, usually seen in silhouette, who is in search of the meaning of “Rosebud,” the dying word of the egotistical newspaper tycoon in Orson Welles’ famous 1940 movie Citizen Kane.
Much more than a minor actor, Alland is better known as a producer of horror films—It Came from Outer Space (1953), This Island Earth (1955), Tarantula (1955), The Deadly Mantis (1957) and, of course, the creature feature under discussion.
Alland, a member of Welles’ Mercury Theatre on the Air, with a hand in the 1938 radio scare of a Martian invasion, War of the Worlds, attended one particular dinner party given by Welles.  Alland heard Mexican cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa (later an Oscar nominee for John Huston’s The Night of the Iguana, 1964) regale his audience with the legend of a half-fish, half-man creature that terrorized the Amazon River, emerging annually to possess a woman victim.
Alland had the idea, Maurice Zimm put it on paper and screenwriters Harry Essex and Arthur Ross converted it to screen.  And Jack Arnold, no stranger to directing other “creature” films, including his masterpiece The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957), directs Creature.
Composers Hans J. Salter, Henry Mancini and Herman Stein, along with some Universal stock footage—even a snip from 1941’s The Wolf Man—assemble an unexpectedly integrated score.  Beware, however, of that three-note “creature theme” on the flutter-tongue trumpets.  Even if it’s only a claw, the motif blares out each time the creature appears and so often the motif quickly becomes a boring nuisance long after any terror-striking effect has worn off.  Still, the three notes could be the most memorable of its kind since Franz Waxman’s five-note “monster theme” in The Bride of Frankenstein (1935).
Aside from some scenes shot in a water tank, most of the underwater photography was filmed by a second unit, over 2,000 miles from Hollywood, in the sparkling clear waters of Wakulla Springs, about fourteen miles south of Tallahassee, Florida.  One of the first films shot there was Tarzan’s New York Adventure (1938).
So it is to this spring, passing for the Upper Amazon, that a scientist, Dr. Carl Maia (Antonio Moreno, Captain from Castile, 1947, The Searchers, 1956), finds the fossilized remains of a scaly forearm and webbed claw-hand.
Not even three minutes into the film, the audience hears the three-note motif, fortissimo, and is teased, some might think prematurely, by, this time, a living claw-hand groping at the river bank.  Carl has his back turned to this, of course.
Carl returns to civilization and recruits three companions for an expedition—ichthyologist Dr. David Reed (Richard Carlson, It Came from Outer Space, etc.), the financial backer of this expedition, Mark Williams (Richard Denning, the governor in TV’s Hawaii Five-O, 1968-80), and David’s girlfriend, Kay (Julie Adams, The Private War of Major Benson, 1955), the requisite “female in danger”—the woman the creature is after in any horror film.
With tag-along scientist Dr. Thompson (Whit Bissell, Hud, 1963, Seven Days in May, 1964) aboard, they arrive by river trawler at Carl’s camp, only to find two of his aids dead.  The jovial captain of the “Rita” is Lucas (Nestor Paiva, Humoresque, 1946, Tarantula).
After finding no more fossils, David believes that any possible remains might have been washed down the river thousands of years ago, and in traveling further down the waterway they discover the black lagoon with its primeval forest rising from water’s edge.
Having noticed Kay, the creature has followed the trawler to the lagoon, establishing the beauty-and-the-beast premise, specifically King Kong (1933), the writers admitted source of their story.  After David and Mark have dived for rocks in the lagoon, Kay goes swimming and the fish-man, somehow unnoticed, swims along beneath and around her.
The creature later climbs aboard the “Rita” and kills some of Lucas’ crew before its capture and confinement in a bamboo cage.  When the scaly prisoner escapes, he mauls Thompson.  Kay tosses a lantern and, in flames, the creature jumps overboard.
David wants to end the expedition, but Mark is bent on capturing, or killing, the fish-man.  There are more struggles.  The “Rita” is locked in the lagoon by some loose logs moved by the creature and Mark is killed in an underwater fight with the aquatic adversary.
When Kay is kidnapped to a grotto by the fish-man, David, Carl and Lucas rescue her, but not before shooting the creature, which retreats into the lagoon.  The last shot of the film is of its body sinking limply to the bottom of the lagoon.
The Creature from the Black Lagoon, which seems, at least on first viewing, so unified creatively, contains at least six “doubles,” necessitated by the second unit work in distant Florida.  The credited “surface” director might be Jack Arnold, but for the underwater scenes it is James C. Havens.  Likewise, the Hollywood cinematographer, William E. Snyder, is replaced in Florida by Scotty Westbourne, using a then innovative underwater camera.  This was about the same time as Beneath the 12-Mile Reef (1953) and 20,000 Leagues under the Sea (1954), films known, at the time, for their spectacular underwater photography.
In Hollywood, lead actress Julie Adams is making her signature movie, while beneath the water, exhibiting acrobatic stunts and somersaults, is Ginger Stanley, then a performer at Florida’s Silver Springs tourist attraction.  In the swimming sequence between “Adams” (Stanley) and the fish-man, some critics have seen a highly erotic ballet, a “love dance,” intimations of sexual intercourse, albeit from a distance.
Aside from the water tank shots, actors Carlson and Denning are doubled in the lagoon sequences by two local college students hired for the occasion.  On the boat and getting in and out of the water, Carlson wears two air tanks, Denning only one, a distinction replicated by the stand-ins beneath the surface.
Even the fish-man leads two lives.  Stalking on the surface, climbing aboard the trawler, being set on fire or shot at, Ben Chapman is the creature; under the water it’s Ricou Browning, who, as a result of this filming experience, became a director, writer, producer and underwater cinematographer.
Milicent Patrick, supposedly the first woman animator at the Walt Disney Studios, designed the creature’s outfit, though Bud Westmore took unfair credit, as is so often the case with him.
With the fish-man only presumably dead in the end, the writers and producer left room for—that’s right!—a sequel, and not one but two.  Neither The Revenge of the Creature (1954) nor The Creature Walks Among Us (1956) is as good as the original, and although still another remake is rumored, so far the nearest to one is The Shape of Water (2017), which its director, Guillermo del Toro, said was inspired by the 1954 film.

She was giggling again, with him.
It had to be the third or fourth time now this reporter made you laugh, and it just made Jack's blood boil. The way you both shifted forward in their seats as you two laughed. The way you clutched your stomach and took deep breaths to calm yourself in order to answer the next question. That damn reporter continuing his cheesy one liners after your answers which only made you laugh more.
Jack was finding it nearly impossible to stand off to the side and watch this interview unfold in front of him. You were his girl after all, he wanted to be the only one to make you laugh like this, not some reporter for a little known car magazine he didn't even know the name of.
While the reporter looked down at his iPad to read over the next question he needed to ask, you eyes gravitated towards Jack. His right shoulder was leaning on a steel beam that was one of many in the open studio space. His body language emanated nothing but tension and distain. Something was clearly bothering him.
You flashed him a kind, closed-mouth smile, his jaw clenched in response. Yeah, he was pissed about something.
"Okay, last question," the reporter's words pulled your attention back to him. "What is your ultimate goal for your racing career?"
"To stay in one piece after each race." you deadpanned followed by a fit of laughter from both you and the reporter.
"Well that is a very good goal to have." the reporter said between chuckles.
You nodded in agreement as you dabbed tears of laughter from the corners of your eyes, you glanced at your boyfriend, he now had his arms crossed over his chest, maintaining his unamused posture.
"On a serious note, I'd love to accomplish a championship title. That would be incredible. Maybe if I'm lucky, I can podium at Le Mans before I retire as well." you answered honestly.
With a few parting words and a friendly handshake, the interview was over, and you and the reporter go your separate ways. Automatically, you exited the small studio set up and walked over to Jack, he still had a prominent frown on his face.
"What's wrong with your face?" you asked, a cheeky smile dancing upon your lips as you looked at your boyfriend.
Jack huffed as he stood upright. "I don't know, maybe because you were enjoying flirting with that reporter."
"Oh my god." you retorted, turning on your heels and walking to the small break room that was at the back of the studio space.
Jack was the jealous type, there's no denying that. Most of the time you found it hot, when he'd get protective and possessive of you any time another man looked at you any other way other than a simple passing glance. But this time it rubbed you the wrong way.
"Tell me I'm wrong then. He was totally flirting with you!" Jack chased after you, his large stride catching up to your much smaller one within a couple steps.
"He was doing his job Jack. We felt comfortable with each other, that's a lot more than I can say for most reporters I talk to." You pushed the break room door open, letting it swing closed but Jack caught it before it had a chance to shut.
"As your boyfriend I was not comfortable with it."
"You aren't happy with anyone of the opposite gender acknowledging my existence." you spat.
An audible gasp escaped your lips as you felt a strong hand turn you around quickly. Your body collided into Jack's, the split second movement caused your heart to race and goosebumps erupt on your skin.
Jack towered over your much shorter stature, his eyes were hooded, dark with desire and want, his body was still ridged but not with anger or discomfort, it was pure pleasure and need.
"You are mine, and no one else's." he growled, bowing his head to meet your lips, devouring them in a dominating yet passionate kiss.
The kiss felt like electricity that jolted through your entire body. It was just one kiss but the effect this man had on you was instantaneous. His pent up desire had now transferred to you and all you could think about was the throbbing heat between your legs yearning for him.
Jack knew you were already at that point and had you laying flat on your back across the small sofa that was in the room.
"Jack, what if someone walks in?" you raised your head slightly to watch your boyfriend fiddle with your jeans before pulling them down your legs.
"Then they can watch." he grumbled.
You laughed slightly at his reply, the worry of someone actually walking in and seeing you two was quickly erased when you felt Jack's warm tongue glide across your folds. The feeling caused your back to arch and legs fall open.
Jack hummed against you, a response to the taste he got from your center. He used his tongue again to glide along your slit, from your sopping wet entrance up to your sensitive bud. There he flicked your bud with the tip of his tongue before clamping his lips down onto it and sucking. His facial hair tickled the sensitive skin between your legs, even the slightest feeling caused you to jump.
Instinctively, your hand went to his hair, gripping it slightly as he switch back and forth between sucking and flicking your bud. Each second a new wave of pleasure washed over you, demanding a symphony of moans to flow from your mouth.
You could feel your wetness growing, your core throbbing for him. It was an ache so deep within your core that it caused you to whine just thinking about his cock filling every inch of you.
"Jack please..." you said barely above a whisper.
Jack heard you but continued to flick his tongue wildly on your aching bud. "Please what?" he said, barely lifting his mouth from your wet core.
You moaned again. "I need you..."
This time Jack answered right away. "I'm sorry I didn't hear you, what was that?"
He anchored himself to your bud, sucking at it and pulling it slightly with his lips, a feeling that had you speechless for a moment. This man knew exactly what he was doing to you.
"I fucking need you right now!" you blurted, unable to control the words that flew from your mouth.
Jack pulled his mouth from your core with a loud popping sound. He sat up, a smug smile plastered on his face as he began to undo his belt and pants, eyes locked with yours. You panted heavily, heart racing, hyper focused on Jack and every move he made.
When his cock sprang free from its confines you felt your breath hitch followed by a frustrated groan. You wanted him so badly in this moment, every second he took felt like an eternity.
"Wow someone is needy." Jack teased.
"Says that man who was just whining about another man having my attention for five minutes." you countered, knowing that would stoke his fire.
It sure did. Jack's eyes darkened and he bent you over the back of the couch with one fluid movement. Before you had a chance to speak you felt his cock fill your core. A loud gasp chased by a moan escaped your lips as you gripped the top of the couch with both hands.
As in control as Jack was, there was still attentiveness and passion behind it. He paused for a moment, making sure you weren't tense and nothing was wrong, then once he was confident you were well adjusted he began to buck into you.
The speed and the accuracy behind each stroke caused you lips to part and your brain to go fuzzy. He knew all the best places to hit and all the best positions to put you in. He even knew throwing you half bent over the top of the couch would turn you on even more because you loved getting it from behind.
A chorus of moans echoed through the room, there was no way anyone outside didn't hear the two of you. But you couldn't care less. Caught in a pleasure high so perfect you lost track of time and space, the only thing that pulled you back down to Earth was the prickling feeling of your climax building within you.
"Oh fuck... Jack I'm gonna cum." you breathed between moans.
Jack's rhythmic strokes turned into deep thrusts that had you holding onto the couch for support. The change in rhythm caused your climax to come washing over you far faster than you anticipated.
"Jack!" you screamed, the scream coming purely from pleasure as you road your climax to the finish line.
Behind you, you could hear Jack grunt and groan a few times, his climax coming shortly after yours.
The two of you remained in your positions, both immobile while breathing heavily, trying to recover from the insane pleasure high.
"Bet no other man can do you like that." Jack stated, smacking your right ass cheek before pulling himself free from your core.
"mmm no you're right about that," you agreed, letting yourself sink back down onto the couch, making eye contact with Jack as he nodded. "But that reporter was pretty funny." you teased.
Jack huffed and rolled his eyes but a small satisfied smirk could be seen on his lips as he patted your outer thigh. "Don't start." he warned with a small chuckle followed by placing a soft kiss on your left temple.
Jokes aside; you were his, and he was yours, and that was that.

Your views: why it’s going wrong for the Hawks
IN THE wake of consecutive 86-point thumpings, we asked for your take on why it’s going so badly, so quickly for the Hawks.
One thing clear is that many Hawk fans are keeping faith in Alastair Clarkson’s team to revive its fortunes.
Over 40 per cent of Hawthorn supporters say the side’s current form is a blip.
However, opposition supporters are emphatically writing the Hawks off. Over 80 per cent say the Hawks’ 0-4 record and dismal percentage simply reflects where the club is at.
Here’s a selection of your views on the plight of one of modern footy’s champion teams.
Why is it going so badly for the Hawks right now?
All reigns end
The system is designed so no one team can dominate for an extended period of time. They have done a brilliant job, but all reigns end. Just ask the Brisbane Lions.
– Rob Fergus, Brisbane Qld
• Hawks crash ‘inevitable’ says departed champ Jordan Lewis
‘The worst trade period in the club’s history’
You do not give up your two best players (according to club best-and-fairest results) for nothing. No club in history has ever done that, no business in the world would’ve made that deal.
Clarkson said on numerous occasions that age doesn’t matter, only form. Then why push out two legends? Disgraceful. And now club morale is suffering.
– Shaun Grant, Los Angeles USA
Broken promises
Many of the Hawks’ mid-range players (Breust, Smith, Sheils) took pay cuts to stay at the club during the premiership years. They were promised they would be looked after when the club could afford to. Rather than reward this loyalty, they bring in Mitchell, O’Meara and Vickery on big dollars.
This, along with trading club champions, has hurt their culture. Many of the Hawk stalwarts are as a consequence just going through the motions at present.
– Nicholas Oddy, Burwood Vic
Elite individuals are the backbone of a club
Hawthorn have traded their two best players, and another talented player in Bradley Hill. If Geelong were to trade Selwood, Dangerfield and Motlop, there would be more chance of politicians taking a pay cut then the Cats making finals.
Elite individuals are the backbone of a club. In 2014 the Suns were on the cusp of making finals before Ablett got injured. They struggled to win a game without him.
Fremantle in 2015 were minor premiers. In 2016 they had early injuries to their two biggest names in Fyfe and Sandilands and were lucky not to finish with the wooden spoon.
Hawthorn cannot replace Mitchell and Lewis and it will take time for new players to jell. Ageing stars getting close to retirement, no depth in their list and no early draft picks means a steep decline and long and cumbersome rebuild.
– Phillip Thornber, Thurgoona NSW
• The Stats Files: Can Sam Mitchell complete a Brownlow full house?
They rely on precision kicking and they’ve recruited handballers
Once a dominant kicking side, they’ve recruited Mitchell and O’Meara who rarely use the ball by foot. They never relied upon the inside battle as they could beat opponents on the outside with precision passing.
They would have been better suited going after midfield speed and quality users by foot.
– Daniel McCann, Adelaide SA

‘The young brigade is showing very little heart’
The fact that the team didn’t fire up when Geelong were taking shots at Hodge, a three-time premiership captain and legend of the club, spoke volumes. Hodge displayed what had made Hawthorn a feared side and his teammates looked on like passengers.
– Jordan Prideaux, Melbourne Vic
• The Hawks have lost hope, says club legend Lethal
Unfair compensation for free agents
Little access to high draft picks has been coupled with unfair compensation for players leaving through free agency.
The Hawks’ contemporaries in Geelong have been ‘given’ more from the system, for example two first-round compensation picks for Ablett. Sydney had access to Heeney and Mills from their Academy – players they otherwise would not have got.
Hawthorn’s compensation picks for Franklin, Suckling and others have been a joke. At the time no one cared as the Hawks were winning flags.
– Shamus Lynch, Cheltenham Vic
Eagles beware
The Hawks have too many ageing players who aren’t able to match the pace and four-quarter performances of younger teams.
They have for years relied on their players being first to the ball, and winning the contested ball. This isn’t happening and they are now having to chase the opposition. This isn’t a game the Hawk players have  been used to playing.
Trading out Mitchell and Lewis may not have been such a good idea, but reducing their older list had to happen. West Coast will suffer a similar dip in a few years. Last year they recruited Mitchell, Petrie, Vardy – older players with a very limited ‘life’. This will see them also suffer a lack of youth coming through in a couple of seasons.
– Andrew Poole, Salter Point WA
What needs to happen for the Hawks to return to winning ways this season?
Take the Tiger path
It isn’t an overnight solve for the Hawks. Getting game time into the likes of James Sicily is the right step forward. They still have the top-end talent to win games this year, with Burgoyne, Hodge, Rioli, Roughead, etc still capable of getting them over the line.
But they won’t make finals. They would be well served to go down a similar path to Richmond, bringing in exciting pacey players like the Tigers’ Rioli and Castagna.
– Jack Boronovskis, Richmond Vic
Time up for Josh Gibson
As good as Gibson has been, it’s time to go. Put Hodgey back into that sweeping role to replace Gibson and provide direction and rebound out of defence, and get Birchall back in ASAP!
Now is time to throw caution to the wind. Getting thumped by 86 points two weeks in a row with a defensive mindset clearly isn’t the answer. Let’s put Gunston back in the goal square, Roughy at half-forward and Cyril and Poppy crumbing in opposite pockets.
Put the pressure back on the opposition to try and stop us!
The depth of talent is still there and the age of the talent is still in the window to deliver results.
– Jeff Bennett, Perth WA
• Here’s why fixing ‘Flawthorn’ is going to take some time
‘A win or two will grow confidence’
There is some respect in the bank for premiership players and good servants but perhaps an injection of youth and speed might arrest the slump. Finals would not be on the radar this year. Remember that Geelong missed the 2015 finals after forcing the retirements of, or trading senior premiership players.
 – Michael Byrnes, Deception Bay Qld
Acknowledge the club stuffed up the trade period
Clarko needs to formulate a game plan that capitalises on the strengths of the current squad, which at least for the moment has lost the skill of precision kicking.
Part of the weekly training needs to be team building exercises – the boys just aren’t jelling anymore.
It would help to drop a few big names down to the twos- Gibson for starters.
Finally, I would hate for anything to be done publicly to undermine the confidence of O’Meara or Tom Mitchell, but there should be some acknowledgement to the fans and the players that the club stuffed up the trade period.
Patrick Swayne, Anchorage, Alaska USA
‘Be ruthless with older players who aren’t playing with speed anymore’
They have been clearly run off the park in all the games so far this season.
Be looking to blood young players, and give freedom to midfielders to take risks when moving the ball forward.
Increasing the pressure in the contest is going to be needed too, as they haven’t won a contested possession count since middle of last season, which is a problem that needs to be addressed in the immediate future if they want to be competitive for the remainder of the season.
– Alex Davies, Adelaide SA
Look to the Dockers
For Hawthorn to have any chance of playing competitive football, they need to follow the example set by Fremantle over the last fortnight, and play their young players.
While the youth at Hawthorn certainly doesn’t match that at Fremantle, developing players for the future must be a priority for a side that is quite clearly bottom four based on current form. In adding speed and youth to their line-up in the form of Griffin Logue, Harley Balic, Ethan Hughes, and Brady Grey, the Dockers managed to knock off the reigning premiers and defeat the Demons in Melbourne.
Despite lacking high picks, Hawthorn still have plenty of options with Dallas Willsmore, Kade Stewart andMarc Pittonet [starring in the VFL] and Jonathan O’Rourke, Teia Miles and the rookie listed James Cousins also putting in reasonable performances.
Injecting these players into the senior side is looking like the only way to add the much-needed spark into a flat side, while also serving the purpose of developing young talent for future years.
– Patrick Moran, Vic
Turning to youth has helped resurrect Freo’s 2017 fortunes. Picture: AFL Photos
We may as well sacrifice this season
If I’m honest nothing can get us back to winning ways this season. But if we want a brighter future we need to get time into the youth. Even Irishmen like Glass and Nash should be given plenty of game time this season. Our season is going to be bad no matter what, but at least we can use it as a stepping stone.
And one thing youth can guarantee is enthusiasm. We’ve seen it with Fremantle so why not with us? Sure, the young guys weren’t taken at the top of the draft, but they are the future of our club. We may as well sacrifice this season because we are not a finals team anymore.
– Oscar Wills, Canberra ACT
All is not lost
Without question, hitting their targets has dropped off considerably. But if you look at our matches so far, anybody would have lost to Essendon in round one; Adelaide; an extremely fired up Gold Coast; and then a blockbuster match where we were in it for three quarters.
Compare that with Richmond’s four easy games against Carlton, a Collingwood who couldn’t kick straight, West Coast at the ‘G, and Brisbane.
It’s a long season and it will average out at the end.
– Jeff Whitty, Hobart Tas

On this week’s podcast the boys discuss:
• Should the Hawks trade Jack Gunston, and what could they get for him?
• Could Hawthorn’s first round pick propel St Kilda to a flag tilt in 2018?
• What is Adelaide’s one weakness?
