We don't kill and eat animals to survive and thrive, we kill animals because it's tradition, they taste good, and that's what we have always done. These are not good enough justifications to continue this exploitation, cruelty and violence.

8 billion humans all saying they “barely eat animal products” is how we’ve reached 80 billion land animal casualties every year.

I am struggling with my support of a vegan activist right now. James Aspey was one of the speakers that really resonated with me at the beginning of my journey, and someone that I really respected and followed up to now. He's recently been making holocaust comparisons and referring to the "animal holocaust" and been dismissive of people "trying to silence" him with criticism, citing the dictionary definition of the word, and calling for all vegan activists to "call it what it is" and say holocaust because that will ultimately drive the movement further. I'm really torn at this point if I should just unfollow him and no longer recommend any of his talks/speeches that helped me transition.
This is unfortunately one of those things you find happening in any context really - that people you admire end up being not quite what you thought you were. I don’t keep up to date with vegan YouTube so I can’t really comment much about this issue without having seen those videos, but I’ve written in detail about why holocaust comparisons in general are such a bad idea here, and why the use of them is so misguided.
The situation you’re in is a familiar one with me, I had similar issues with Gary Yourofsky, I found that speech inspiring and was recommending it all over the place until I found out more about the man himself and his thinking. If you don’t support what he is saying and doing now then it is completely fine to withdraw your support of his work. You can take the lessons you learned from him onwards and work them into more sensitive and intersectional advocacy, while dispensing with the man himself.

From James Aspey: This is the face of someone who was murdered today. Her crime: being born into a species that humans legally abuse, enslave and kill. Her punishment: a trip to a death factory, where she goes in alive, something “humane” happens, and she comes out chopped up into pieces. Do you realise who you are eating? You are eating people of another species who have rich, emotional lives and don’t want to die, just like us. Do you realise what you are contributing to? If we committed exactly the same act on a human, it would be murder. Taking someone’s life against their will is a BIG deal. It doesn’t matter if that someone has 4 legs instead of 2, or is covered in fur or feathers. If you have an “ah-ha” moment sometime soon and realise that you are a chill, respectful, good person and want align your actions with your values, it’s commonly known as going vegan. To do that, add beans instead of meat. Guac instead of sour cream. Soy milk instead of cow’s milk. Faux leather instead of cow’s skin. Shrooms instead of steaks. Etc etc. More a more comprehensive guide to going vegan, check out vegankit.com. For a free vegan vegan program, check out challenge22.com. There are countless Facebook groups and websites dedicated to making this as easy and enjoyable a process as possible. Why not take a look and see what changes you can make? I’ll tell you from my own experience, every step closer to being vegan is a good one and when you reach that goal, it is a feeling like no other. There is something so life enriching and positive about no longer participating in needless animal cruelty. I hope you’ll find out for yourself. ✌🏽

Cancelled: James Aspey Cons His Followers
James Aspey cons his followers in a pump and dump crypto currency scheme and the vegan community is livid with him.
I’ve been trying to decide exactly where to begin with this article and after weeks of following the developing story, interviewing others, and gathering screenshots I can honestly say with massive disappointment that James Aspey is participating in a pyramid scheme/scam that is harming many of his trusting followers. Not only that but Aspey has also continued to use divisive language in not…
