michael and jane's first date at the amusement park literally gave so much grumpy/introverted x sunshine extroverted energy because she was literally all excited about everything and had a rose colored lens and he was more chill and reserved than she was... but then once they got to know each other and established a dynamic where they were each other's best friend and in love for years then he loosened up and became more of the funny guy golden retriever husband we all know and love!! oh its so perfect

Neither Michael or Rafael were perfect that was the point they both made mistakes and had pride issues due to personal flaws. They both loved Jane in different ways and they could both make her happy. Jane loved them both and of course made her own mistakes as a person since she is flawed as we all are all people. I’m rewatching and I’m seeing the mistakes but still loving the characters so far despite loving others more. I love how much more I’m seeing rewatching this show

I hate that they retconned Michael's death. I absolutely adored the line where they said that Michael and Rafaels love stories with Jane were a "Yes, and," because the point of that line is validating both romances and showing that the debate over soul mates is more nuanced. I hate that in s5 they're trying to frame Rafael as if he were always the end goal. It feels like its undercutting the validity and beauty of both romances, especially since the original message was almost showing a new side of romance, the side where everyone thinks there's only one person for you, the hetero normative idea that you should only have feelings for one person and stay with them forever. I loved Jane's speech at her parents wedding about CHOOSING who to love and who to put the effort into, not that they're meant to be. Michael coming back and getting his memories feels like a shitty move and I would've preferred for them not to go that route, or at least not to give him his memories back. I know it's a telanovela so I shouldn't expect different... But I love the original messages this show portrays. It shines a light on purity culture and religious guilt, has meaningful conversations about sexuality and family, and I prefer their original stance on romance. Jane and Michael's story was beautiful, but so is Jane and Rafaels. Just because Michael isn't the last person she's with doesn't mean he should be villainized or character assassinated or anything. This show shows that love is abundant, it's not finite, and it's not destiny. It's work and hope and faith. This show gives a rare glimpse of something so raw and honest about feelings and love and I'm almost done with the show but I hope it goes in a good way that continues these themes. I get way too invested in shows lmao, and this one has so many relatable themes and antics.

no but the most unrealistic thing about jtv to me (the telenovela with secret triplets and evil lesbian stepmothers building an army of people with plastic surgery and a pregnant virgin discovering her favourite telenovela star is actually her father and i could go on) is that the most bland ass entitled annoying as shit mediocre white cop guy michael cordero from the first season magically grew into a butterfly and became the swoonworthiest most caring adorable boyfriend one season later and i love that development so much about him i wish it happened in real life too:'(

I’ve made it to season 5 of Jane the Virgin and I’m still mad about how they handled Michael’s character.

They should not have brought him back like they did. It was such a disservice to his character. And it ruined the beauty of Jane’s grieving process, her first book, her ability to move on while still keeping a piece of Michael alive.

I get such second hand embarrassment from the early season 5 episodes that I ended up skipping a couple.

I just feel like there were other ways to do that big of a telenovela twist. Especially on a show where switching faces and surprise twins is so common
