Jani-Ca from the Archie Comics (Dark Mobius)!

She's the daughter of Knuckles and Julie-Su from an alternate universe future. Her contest description is below

She hails from a dark future, where her father has become a rogue demigod and uses his powers to control the world. She teams up with Silver the Hedgehog and a small team of survivors to defeat him, and save her mother. Her father fights them with creatures crafted with the life essence stolen from once-thriving people, leaving them empty husks. She must now navigate this barren apocalyptic landscape with a ragtag group of survivors. She also has a giant sword and cool jacket

Wait, there's a Dark Mobius au? As in, Archie's Dark Mobius? The one where Bark talks, Bean's dating Bunnie, and Fang/Nack's first appearance was his lifeless corpse hanging from a wall?

... Can we hear about your version?

I was about to go to sleep but WHO NEEDS THAT, ABSOLUTELY I WILL TALK ABOUT MY BOYS

My version of the dark mobius universe is basically the same but different in a way!

Instead of Fang being a lifeless Corpse all the way through, he's actually one of the first cores to be saved and returned back to his body. While enerjak was being a cocky asshole, the Dark freedom fighters realize that he's only mainly focusing on jani-ca, his own daughter, once this was realized the group finally start a rescue operation to at least get one body and core. Jani-Ca will act like she's on an important mission to maybe find a weak point of enerjak with the sword of acorns with Cutlass and Payback, While everyone else sneaks into his lair to retrieve a body, when jani-ca has enerjak use the corse he collected, she focuses on defeating a prelate and taking the core quickly before Enerjak does. This core is coincidentally Fang's (who goes by Nack in this Au), the plan actually works and Enerjak uses his other prelates to chase after her, but Cutlass and Payback blind him and they easily escape, once giving the other group the information they quickly get Fang's body out of its prison, Demo promising the other lifeless souls that they will be back for them all soon and quickly flee before enerjak comes back. Once both core and the body are together, Jani-ca focuses her power on the sword and fuses the two back together. Fang became whole again and eventually woke up, looking different than when the group last saw him.

Before Enerjak's attack, Fang was..well fang, instead teamed up with a Bark who talks and a Bean who is older than his prime self, Fang gave the dark freedom fighters the duo as he thought it was better (and safer) for them to be with the team. As he went to go get the sword of Acorns and watch Downunda sink by enerjak. He was then attacked by prelates as he was heading to the location where jani-ca dropped his pay. But when she got there, all she saw was the sword. Eventually, she was attacked by Fang's prelate form. Now freed from that, Fang has Scars on his back, the bridge of his snout, and his ear, showing that if the prelates are damaged, they get scars on their original bodies. Thankfully, never killed, but the marks of their time as a prelate are still there. He's also more paranoid and less of an asshole, he's actually more friendly and optimistic, considering becoming a prelate is basically purgatory between life and death, he now values life and is all on board to helping the others free everyone else than just for pay.

Demo Duck was definitely confused seeing this New Fang but was all for it, Blockbuster was the same but couldn't help but know under that smile was fear of facing enerjak again, so Him and Fang usually have a cup of tea to relax every now an then.

Now for some minor little facts:

- Scarlette and Demo are still a thing, as I got into these freedom fighters before I even read archie, so I thought this concept was interesting, and Cutlass was more of an older brother figure to scarlette instead in this universe. (I do ship bunnies an Antoine in prime universe, but I do like how this older bean is protective and shows his insanity side whenever scarlette is in danger.)

- In Ian's first version of dark mobius, Other M (a Fan comic), Dagger's Family was killed by Fang, but here in dark mobius, his family is never mentioned so most likely enerjak took their cores. Dagger and Fang argue with each other, though, to reference their old rivalry, but are more like Brothers who constantly wrestle each other but have a bonding moment over kicking this echidna's ass.

- Other M is an erased universe that doesn't really connect to my version of Dark mobius, but some of these characters get nightmares of that universe, as it was how they used to be possibly, They all agree to be better and think when against enerjak this time, not needing to rely on a speedful or time traveling hedgehog. The only one who doesn't have these nightmares is Jani-ca as she wasn't in the original comic. Hell, she didn't even exist yet, I'm sure, so she keeps everyone's sanity in check.

- Demo is more rude and takes more of Fang's prime personality, but does show a soft side. He isn't a leader or planner like his other M counterpart, and enjoys pissing off his fellow freedom fighters. But at the end of the day he does encourage the group to have courage during these battles, and enjoys launching himself at enemies to create beautiful explosions!

- Cutlass taught Jani-ca how to use swords as she is planned to hold the sword of acorns to battle enerjak, while Blockbuster is the mentor of having a piece of mind and being calm In a situation, Cutlass is the mentor of quick reaction times, especially when confronting enerjak.

- Corsen is in this AU but her Core has been taken and is also a prelate. Fang told Jani-ca to promise him to take care of her as he went to go get the sword, she promised, a few weeks later after he became a prelate however, the group got cornered by enerjak and his army. Jani-ca, having no choice in the matter, Sacrifices Corsen as bait while tricking her for a false plan so everyone can get away. Demo and Blockbuster didn't know as they were ahead leading the way, and jani-ca stopped Corsen while fleeing with the group, which explains why she was the last to show up. She only told the freedom fighters that Corsen stayed back to hold them off on her own accord, when in reality that wasn't the case. Jani-ca doesn't have the guts to tell Fang and told him the false version as well. Hoping to free Corsen last to stay away from telling the truth... But Fang will figure it out and not be too happy with the decision.

- Dark Mobius Corsen's outfit is just Jotaro Kujo's outfit

Are the ArchieSonic comics actually an 80's/90's syndicated cartoon? Episode 31: Time travel to the distant future year of 2000 (part two)

Welcome back to my look at the ArchieSonic comic series, and how it shared a lot of the same story tropes as a typical ‘80s or ‘90s syndicated cartoon! Today I’m continuing my look at time travel stories by following Silver the Hedgehog’s movements across time throughout the series.

Silver made his first appearance at the end of Sonic #194, travelling to Sonic’s time 200 years in Silver’s past to try and eliminate a “traitor” who had supposedly betrayed the Freedom Fighters.

At first he thought this was Sonic, but after fighting alongside him against Scourge, Silver decided he may have false information and went back to the future to do more research. 

…heh. “Back to the future.” See what I did there?

He next showed up in Sonic Universe #5, coming to the aid of King Sonic and his family in an alternate reality set 30 years in Sonic’s future.

Silver managed to stop an assassination plot against Sonic instigated by the Dark Presence’s vengeful leader, Lien-Da.

But not long after his heroic moment, Silver was knocked out by an undercover agent posing as Sonic’s staff and spent most of the rest of that arc unconscious. 😛

However he did wake up in time to help out King Sonic and his new team of Freedom Fighters in the fight against Tikhaos, an unstable fusion of Tikal and Perfect Chaos that had flooded the world in Silver’s time. 

Our first actual look at Silver’s future didn’t come until Sonic #215, when we saw him continuing his investigation to find the supposed traitor in the Freedom Fighters. While the world was no longer flooded it was still in ruins, and Angel Island was now partially submerged and renamed Onyx Island (as seen in Sonic Rivals). Silver decided to try and fix everything by going after Rotor this time, believing him to be a traitor just because his friends used to call him “Boomer.” 

Look, I don’t like boomers either. But if you think that killing them will save the future then…

…actually, you might be onto something. :P

When that lead didn’t pan out and Silver returned to his own time we were introduced to his two mentors.

The first one was the echidna Edmund, the last Guardian of Onyx Island. While it was never officially confirmed, it was strongly hinted at that Edmund was the grandson of Knuckles and Julie-Su, and son of their daughter Lara-Su and Vector’s son Argyle.

The second mentor turned out to be even more surprising - a supposedly reformed Mammoth Mogul, trying to atone for the role his inaction played in the world’s ruination. 

Silver’s next trip to the past (but from our point of view, still Sonic’s future) was in Sonic Universe #25. It ended up being another journey to an alternate reality where Knuckles had gone mad with power and become Enerjak again, wiping out almost the entire population of the planet. Silver teamed up with the local resistance against him, led by Lara-Su (calling herself Jani-Ca these days).

While Silver initially struggled going one on one with Enerjak, he eventually thought of his mentors’ teachings and managed to defeat Enerjak by turning his own power against him.

It’s worth mentioning that we first saw this version of Lara-Su back in Sonic #106, where she had also travelled back in time to try and prevent her dark timeline from occurring.

Much like Silver she had had bad information on what had happened, believing that Knuckles had been assassinated by Constable Remington when he had actually been trying to prevent an assassination.

She returned to her own timeline where her mother admitted the truth to her that Knuckles hadn’t been murdered at all but was actually the one who was taking over the world.

Silver returned to his mission of taking down the traitor in Sonic #235, when he uncovered “evidence” that Antoine was the one that had destroyed the Freedom Fighters. Mammoth Mogul gave him permission to return to the past to investigate, but getting tired of all of Silver’s previous incorrect accusations, told him that this time if he went he would have to remain in the past until he finally had gotten this right. Silver agreed and was sent back to Sonic’s time, where he immediately went to Sonic with his accusations.

…Sonic, quite understandably, did not take this well. He did however acknowledge that Silver had been right about one thing - with all the recent losses the team had taken, the Freedom Fighters were effectively finished. Silver was disheartened that he’d been wrong again, but was given new hope when he was approached by Harvey Who, the former head of King Max’s Secret Intelligence Division.

Having been pulled out of retirement by the deposed King Elias, Harvey offered to help Silver with his mission in return for him joining his Secret Freedom Fighter team.

Silver accepted and joined the effort to undermine the newly crowned King Naugus while Harvey Who investigated the supposed traitor among the Freedom Fighters.

With Harvey’s help Silver finally discovered the truth - the Freedom Fighter who had caused his bleak future was none other than Sally Acorn.

She had saved the world in Sonic #230 when she had destroyed Robotnik’s world roboticiser, but in doing so she had created a different apocalypse when the beam was inverted on her and turned her into the murderous robot Mecha Sally. This would ultimately lead to her destroying the Freedom Fighters and Eggman being able to take over the world without Sonic to stop him.

Silver was able to change the future at the last second by preventing Mecha Sally from killing Sonic, Tails and Amy… but we never got to find out what happened after that because Eggman activated the Super Genesis Wave and the world was reset for the comic’s reboot.

Post-reboot, Silver changed his mission from travelling through time to travelling through various alternate dimensions, closing the Genesis portals that had started popping up as a result of Eggman wreaking havoc on reality.

We did however get to see Silver’s new present time in The Silver Age arc in Sonic Universe #79 - 82. Onyx Island was now a dystopian empire ruled by the Onyx City Council. Silver teamed up with a telepathic tenrec named Gold and Professor Von Schlemmer (better known from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog) to try to stop the Council from experimenting on the Genesis Portals and unleashing a monster called the Second Devourer on the world.

I think that covers all the time-travel-to-the-future stuff we saw in the comics. Did I miss anything? Let me know in the comments! Next time we’re moving on from time travel to another well known trope - the dreaded clip show! Dun-dun-duuuuuuun!

Have you read the Silver Saga?(not to be confused with the Silver Age) I find Silver's relationship with his echidna partner in that story interesting because she's almost like a predecessor to him. She's also an initially 14 year old time traveler with telekinetic hand powers that tried to avert her bad future by visiting Sonic's time. Though she predates Silver by 3 years.

I can recall reading it ages ago, when I had only just become a Sonic fan. And that meant that I had no idea what was going on in it, haha. I didn't even realise the Prelates(?) were supposed to be that dimension's people from Silver's past! And the whole plot with Enerjak was hella confusing as well, I doubt I knew he was actually Knuckles whose power just went to his head (or something). So yeah, overall I understood only very little of it, though at that age I was satisfied enough to just see Silver in Situations. I don't have much of an opinion on Jani-Ca, but it's interesting that their stories are so similar by sheer coincidence!

Anon: The one on the left is an OC sibling I'm working on for Sonic named Sam (Idk if I like their design or not, I might change it.) The character on the right is a redesign for Jani-Ca, whose origins in this series are going to be VERY different from her Archie counterpart.

I'm happy with Jani-Ca's redesign, so that's definitely a keeper.
