Parfum Sacre is a very warm, cinnamonny, and powdery Oriental, in a similar vein to Amouage Fate but without the incense. Feminine, “fluffy” in texture, almost stiflingly so. An incredible creaminess that I'm sure is real iris.

There’s also some really lovely, spiced, honeyed jasmine in the heart.

But overall I find it a touch too sweet and quite a bit too soft to hit the spot for me. it's a perfume that really leans into "Mommy" energy -- infinite, cuddly comfort and warmth. No edges anywhere.

I don’t intend to dwell on this exciting possibility in this post, except to say that it’s relevant to the subject of today’s post, because it’s an example…

90’s Fragrances, Day 4: Versace Red Jeans EDT (1994)

Red Jeans is a Floral Fruity fragrance by Jean-Pierre Bethouart. This is another 90's scent that I remember from working on the beauty counter. Both Blue Jeans (men's) and Red Jeans came in these rounded tin cans, which looked fantastic but were slippier than a box to stack, so often quite tricky to display without them toppling over! JPG's Classique had launched the year earlier, so the tin packaging wasn't an entirely new concept, but it was still unusual. The bottle inside, almost like a vintage glass Coke bottle, felt retro even back in the 90's. The strong branding Versace had and still has, very much apparent on everything, including the lion head lid.

RJ has top notes of peach, apricot, freesia and blackcurrant with middle notes of rose, violet, lily-of-the-valley, water lily and ylang-ylang and a base of musk, vanilla and sandalwood. I definitely get much more fruit than floral and for an EDT the projection in the beginning is pretty good, I kept getting wafts of it for an hour or so, before it settled closer to the skin. It lasted reasonably well too, 8 hours later it's faint, but still there when I sniff for it. The peachy note dominates for me, even hours after, it's somewhat juicy which suits the bottle design. There is however something just a tad powdery and an overall syrupy sweetness-the fragrance wears very linear on me.

My verdict, this is a nice enough scent, is it my favourite? No definitely not, but I found myself buying the bottle for packaging nostalgia and it's sold at a very reasonable price these days (just over £15 for the 75ml with code EXTRA10 on the link above). I'm not sure who the fragrance appeals to, it's not serious or sophisticated, but then not all scents need to be. It's for everyday wear, especially in the summer, something a bit fun and that reusable tin is pretty cute!
