I’ve read both and Circe of course. Greek Mythology surely has a place in my heart. I had read about Ariadne in the Minotaur and Trojan war when I was little, it was 20 years ago. Now, I’m so grateful for both authors who have written these books. #jennifersaint #madelinemiller

Sembra che sia scoppiata la nuova moda del riscoprire i miti e riscriverli, ed ammetto che la cosa mi trasmette molti brividi... Eppure mi sono lanciata con Arianna, sperando di trovare qualcosa di diverso, migliore. Diciamo che è stato così, anche se non ai livelli della pubblicità che ne hanno fatto. Resta un romanzo gradevole, scorrevole, che ripropone un mito piuttosto sconosciuto (io, per esempio, ne sapevo pochissimo), portando spunti di riflessione molto vari, che però non ho idea di quanto siano collegabili alla mitologia. Prima di parlarvi della storia, vi dico già in breve la mia opinione: Un romanzo che mi è piaciuto, ma che resta "superficiale" nel narrare queste vicende. ALT, NON così superficiale. L'ho trovato una bella lettura (forse non giustifica il costo nuovo del romanzo a cover morbida), però diciamo interessante se cercate qualcosa per avvicinarvi al mito senza appesantire troppo. Una buona scrittura, che introduce molti spunti di riflessione senza attualizzarli troppo, in modo da restare coerente con l'epoca narrata e i vari personaggi. Lo consiglio? Ni. Il costo mi scoraggia molto, perchè se non piace mi rendo conto che è una spesa. Following Jennifer Saint’s wonderful first novel Ariadne, she once again dives into the world of Greek mythology to present us with another example of an ancient story with women being placed at the foreground. ⁣ ⁣ Elektra focuses on three different women all affected and connected in some way by a bloodline curse. We have Clytemnestra, whose sister Helen sparks the beginning of Trojan war when she is taken by Paris. Her husband Agamemnon raises an army and he is determined to win, no matter what the cost. Then there is Cassandra, a Trojan princess and cursed by Apollo to see the future but to not be believed. Finally, there is Elektra, daughter of Clytemnestra who abhors the violence in her family but seems destined to travel down the same path.⁣ ⁣ Like Ariadne, it was wonderful to read about strong female characters in a world that treated them unkindly. All of the women were beautifully unique and I loved that each had their own story to tell. The author manages to create a narrative that is compelling, hugely enjoyable and thought provoking and it was easy to race through the pages, thoroughly appreciating every moment I spent inside this fascinating world. ⁣ ⁣ Did I enjoy Elektra as much as I did Ariadne? Not quite but it was still a wonderful, immersive read and I’d highly recommend it to fans of the genre. I buddy read it with bestie @keeperofpages and it kept us thoroughly entertained with lots of opportunities for discussion. Hello everyone and welcome to the end of the week, thank goodness 😅 it’s been one of “those” weeks and I’m so glad to get some breathing space and chill out time. This book haul features three hardback books that are all very different to each other, but hey, that’s how I roll! 😉 Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before was recommended by bestie @emmasbookishcorner I think?? 😅 It teaches you how to fortify and maintain your mental health, even in the most trying of times. Dr Julie Smith’s expert advice will help you stay resilient whether you want to manage anxiety, deal with criticism, cope with depression, build self-confidence, find motivation or learn to forgive yourself. I am so here for this book especially after the week I’ve had! I’m joining in a buddy read for Persuasion by Jane Austen at the end of the month so of course I had to get the Penguin clothbound classic to join my others! This is about Anne Elliot who at 27 is “no longer young and has few romantic prospects.” 😱 She was persuaded to break off an engagement 8 years previously to a handsome naval captain, Frederick Wentworth with neither fortune or rank. This is the story of what happens when they encounter each other again. Finally, I have the finished copy of Elektra. The lovely @caitlinraynor was kind enough to send me a proof copy which I buddy read with bestie @keeperofpages Review coming soon but just like Jennifer Saint’s last novel, Ariadne, this is a re-telling of a Greek myth putting women at the helm of the story.
