Once again, Allison Ashley has written an emotionally rich tale that gracefully explores life's challenging moments. If Tomorrow Never Comes was the perfect read to kick off my new year. Ashley invited us into a bittersweet world but still kept it light and breezy much like the gentle rustling of leaves atop one's favorite tree.
I was delighted by Ashley's artful use of chocolate. She uses this little detail that seems almost absurd at first as a connector but also to illustrate the depth and complexity of the cancer journey and patient experience beyond the walls of a doctor's office. She sweetly explores grief and loss beyond the physical toll of the illness. I remember being devastated when salt and vinegar chips (my favourite) no longer tasted the same to me, but this is something people don't really talk about when you go through illness so it was nice to see Ashley include it.
Originally slated for release later this month, the book is now scheduled to be released in April so don't forget to mark your calendar and pre-order your copy! It's only my first read of 2025 but I know it'll be in my top 2025 reads.

"The Edge" by Lucy Goacher - Book Review @AmazonPub #TheEdge #DebutNovel #NetGalleyRead @goachwriter
I’m always eager to try the work of first time writers, so was excited to read “The Edge”. This debut novel touches upon many difficult themes such as confirmation bias, suicide, misogyny, self-reproach, and guilt. When Clemmie’s younger sister Poppy is found dead at the bottom of a Sussex cliff, everyone believes it to be suicide. Clemmie though, has doubts. Her lovely, vibrant sister would…

🐉RATING: 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 🎉NEW RELEASE🎉 Watchful sunflowers, missing mothers, and a land that craves blood. Where Darkness Blooms by Andrea Hannah is just the right balance of creepy suspense and page-turning action. The story centers on the friendship of four teenage girls who live like sisters. They have been caring for each other and their home, alone, for two years since their mothers disappeared. The girls know that there is something dangerously wrong with the town of Bishop, KS. As their suspicions grow, and they investigate the many deaths and disappearances of the women in town, Bishop’s dark mysteries slowly come to light. The fierce loyalty of these four abandoned girls gives this book its heart. When we are first introduced to Delilah, Bo, Jude, and Whitney, they are living very separate lives under one roof. But when one of them is injured, their secrets are shared, and they bond together as they had been before their mothers vanished. I had some difficulty sorting out all the characters and past events at the start of the book. I felt like I needed a chart matching the girls to their mothers and a detailed timeline of the past two years. But once I settled in, the different personalities and experiences of each character became clear. Yet taking a few notes when reading the first chapters might be helpful. Once the truth about Bishop is revealed, the action moves at a fast pace to the end. Readers of YA horror and suspense won’t be disappointed by this supernatural tale with its strong and determined characters. tw: rape Thank you to @stmartinspress @wednesdaybooks and @netgalley for providing this ARC for review. #wheredarknessblooms #andreahannah #yahorror #yasuspense #yamystery #ireadya #newreleasebooks #newreleasetuesday #bookbirthday #bookreview #bookrecommendations #netgalleyreview #netgalleyreader #arcreader #readersofinstagram #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/Co8HvVEhhJV/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

📚B O O K R E V I E W📚 The Lucky Escape By Laura Jane Williams Thank you to @netgalley once again for gifting me this beautiful book to read for you! I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, as I don’t read many Romance Novels, but the main plot was amazing and I loved the fact that Laura had chosen a mixture of Male and Female characters to feature within the main plot. 📚“ONE CANCELLED WEDDING When the day finally comes for Annie to marry Alexander, the last thing she expects is to be left standing at the altar. She was so sure he was Mr Right. Now, she has no idea how she could have got it so wrong.   ONE UNEXPECTED ENCOUNTER After a chance meeting with Patrick, an old friend who reminds her of who she used to be, Annie takes a vow of her own: she’ll say yes to every opportunity that comes her way from now on. ONE SPARE TICKET FOR THE HONEYMOON Could a spontaneous trip with Patrick be the way to mend Annie’s heart? She’s about to find out as she embarks on her honeymoon – with a man who’s not her husband…”📚 The story was told really intimately with plenty of different plot lines to allow the reader something to get their teeth into which I appreciated whilst reading. Through reading this book, I also loved the development of the leading character Annie as well and the ups and downs of her developing relationship with Patrick as well. There were some things that happened that I expected to happen and some that happened that I wasn’t expecting to happen. I will include an affiliate link in the bio to Amazon should you want to Pre-order this wonderful book. The UK release Date for this book is the June the 10th 2021. Will you read this book when it is released? Zhara review
Tumblr media
5/5 stars Recommended if you like: fantasy, multiple POVs, secret groups, humor Big thanks to Netgalley, Wednesday Books, and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review! While there are two POVs in this book, it's really Zhara's story. She undergoes a lot of development throughout this book and comes out stronger, and more herself, on the other side. At the same time, Han does play a major role in the story and has some of his own growth, it's just at a milder scale than Zhara. It's clear from the beginning that Zhara loves her sister and would do pretty much anything for her, even if it means dealing with her stepmother. That loyalty and sense of protection also carries through to some of the other people, particularly the kids, that Zhara comes across that are in need of help. She's also smart and fairly resourceful, despite her not thinking much of herself at times. Han is definitely a himbo. He works out a lot and prizes being in physical shape but is often one of, if not the last, person to put things together. Like Zhara, Han is also desperate to try and save his younger brother, though from a very different threat. He is fairly innocent (and as the synopsis says, easily flustered), which the other characters tease him mercilessly about, and makes him a fun character to read. Xu is Han's best friend and might be one of my favorite characters. I love how upbeat they are and yet at the same time they have their moments when they can be more serious. I also feel like Xu has a very strong sense of identity. They don't get a POV, but they have a lot of character to them that I enjoyed and I think it would be fun if we do get their POV at some point. I also really treasure their friendships with Han, Zhara, and Jiyi. Jiyi comes into the story a bit later and is endearing for different reasons. She's fairly straightforward about things, to the point of coming across as gruff, but it's clear that she's very knowledgeable about her field of study (and very accomplished) and that she cares about what happens if the worst were to come to pass. Yulana is also a late-comer in the story, but I absolutely love her. She's got somewhat of a mysterious vibe when she's first introduced, and things stay like that for a bit, but she's actually a pretty open person once we get past that. Like with Xu, I hope we get her POV at some point, and I suspect she's a more likely candidate for that than Xu is, lol. This book does a good job of including some lighter and more humorous moments amid the more high drama/stakes scenes. At times it did feel a but juvenile, but overall I think the effect worked. The funny moments allowed for relationships to develop between the characters and so we as readers cared when those relationships were put to the test or were in jeopardy. On the surface, magic is banned because magicians turn into abominations, but of course things are never so simple. Learning about the magic system and how things had gotten bad was interesting. The linguistic element of magic was definitely something that I enjoyed. There's a whole history and culture that's been driven underground or erased because of the abominations, but so few people know the truth of what happened, and what happened is very different from what people think it is. Of course there are allegories a plenty here, and a lot of aspects of the magical purge can be related to history or current events in our world in a way that's written very neatly without being overbearing. Overall, I enjoyed this book and that the high stakes were interspersed with lighter moments. I look forward to seeing the characters in the future books and am definitely hoping for more page time from Xu and Yulana in particular.

Given my admiration for Rebecca Serle's previous work, particularly "In Five Years", picking up this ARC was a no-brainer for me. Her skillful storytelling and ability to delve into complex themes had me intrigued from the get-go. So, naturally, I was eager to dive into her latest book.
Approaching this book relatively blind turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Serle once again showcases her talent, crafting a narrative that is both engaging and emotionally resonant. Trust me, y'all are in for a treat when this book hits the shelves.
Moreover, I felt an extra sense of connection to this book because of a special day that I'm celebrating later this month. Have you ever stumbled upon a book at just the right moment in your life? A book you didn't even know you needed to read at this particular moment in time? That's precisely how I felt with this one. Serle's exploration of health issues and their impact adds depth to the story, sparking important discussions about love, life, and relationships (not just romantic). It was the perfect read for me this week, and although it was very emotional, I'm so glad I read it when I did.
One standout element is the recurring theme of "expiration dates" for relationships. What a fascinating concept and Serle explored it in her tale so well. Just the way Daph invests in people based on these dates, as a reader, I similarly invested in and shipped the characters based on these dates. It was a pleasant way to read about and enjoy characters (especially as someone that loves book boyfriends).
From interconnected stories to a gripping overarching plot, this book offers a compelling reading experience. And that plot twist? Wow.
Starting my February romance reads with this book was a great choice. With Serle's work setting a high standard, I'm eager to see what the rest of the month holds.

📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚
📖: Always Remember by Cathryn Grant
Always Remember begins with a death in the family. Louise's philandering husband is dead. Wyatt has lost the father who tormented him. Kelly found her lecherous father-in-law's body in a sauna.
The story is told from all three of their perspectives, giving fascinating and infuriating insight into their individual miscommunications, manipulations and misunderstandings.
Each of them brings the drama in their own way. Tension builds throughout until you're not sure who's crazier or more aggravating.
Wyatt is embarking on a new career, trying to fulfil his dream of becoming a musician, after a shove in that direction from his doting mom. Louise also gives Kelly the push she needs to go back to work after being at home with her and Wyatt's twin boys for a few years. There's a lot of change and, through it all, Louise manages to embed herself in the young family's lives and home ‒ with no intention of leaving.
Can a relationship survive a never-ending third wheel? Not if it's Louise, that's for sure. She is the queen of gaslighting, and then some.
For me, Always Remember was a gripping thriller with just the right amount of drama and intrigue. I honestly didn't know what was going to happen until the end.
I genuinely felt for Kelly, I wanted Wyatt to have some backbone and I would never, ever want to live with Louise. It's an interesting story in that I think different people might relate to the characters completely differently.
However you view it, it's a well-spun tale. I look forward to reading more books by Cathryn Grant.
Thank you so much NetGalley and Inkubator Books for the opportunity to read this one.

When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill is one of my most intriguing books hauled so far this week. . If you were to write this story (see blurb below), what would you have had women turned into? . Dragons are always good. Or maybe something more exotic like Phoenixes. . Book Blurb: . A rollicking feminist tale set in 1950s America where thousands of women have spontaneously transformed into dragons, exploding notions of a woman’s place in the world and expanding minds about accepting others for who they really are. • The first adult novel by the Newbery award-winning author of The Girl Who Drank the Moon . Alex Green is a young girl in a world much like ours, except for its most seminal event: the Mass Dragoning of 1955, when hundreds of thousands of ordinary wives and mothers sprouted wings, scales, and talons; left a trail of fiery destruction in their path; and took to the skies. Was it their choice? What will become of those left behind? Why did Alex’s beloved aunt Marla transform but her mother did not? Alex doesn’t know. It’s taboo to speak of. . Forced into silence, Alex nevertheless must face the consequences of this astonishing event: a mother more protective than ever; an absentee father; the upsetting insistence that her aunt never even existed; and watching her beloved cousin Bea become dangerously obsessed with the forbidden. . In this timely and timeless speculative novel, award-winning author Kelly Barnhill boldly explores rage, memory, and the tyranny of forced limitations. When Women Were Dragons exposes a world that wants to keep women small—their lives and their prospects—and examines what happens when they rise en masse and take up the space they deserve. . . . . #allthebooksapril22 #whenwomenweredragons #kellybarnhill #doubledaybooks #doubleday #netgalley #netgalleyreads #netgalleyreviewer #netgalleyarc #netgalleyreader #bookdragon #bookdragons #tessatalksbooks #bookblogger #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookbloggersofig #bookbloggerlife #bookbloggershub #fantasy #fantasybooks #historicalfiction #womenempowerment #bookandflowers #beautifulbooks #beautifulcover #bookrecommendations #bibliophile #bibliophilelife #booklover #booksof2022 (at Lake Davidson) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcBOJmUrop8/?utm_medium=tumblr

Coming this August by @stephengrahamjones and @gallerybooks: My Heart is A Chainsaw! A big thanks to @netgalley and the publisher for the review copy. Summary: Jade Daniels is an angry, half-Indian outcast with an abusive father, an absent mother, and an entire town that wants nothing to do with her. She lives in her own world, a world in which protection comes from an unusual source: horror movies…especially the ones where a masked killer seeks revenge on a world that wronged them. And Jade narrates the quirky history of Proofrock as if it is one of those movies. But when blood actually starts to spill into the waters of Indian Lake, she pulls us into her dizzying, encyclopedic mind of blood and masked murderers, and predicts exactly how the plot will unfold. Yet, even as Jade drags us into her dark fever dream, a surprising and intimate portrait emerges…a portrait of the scared and traumatized little girl beneath the Jason Voorhees mask: angry, yes, but also a girl who easily cries, fiercely loves, and desperately wants a home. A girl whose feelings are too big for her body. My Heart Is a Chainsaw is her story, her homage to horror and revenge and triumph. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #gallerybooks #simonandschuster #stephengrahamjones #myheartisachainsaw #upcomingbook #curiosityboughtthebook #netgalleyreads #netgalley #reviewcopies #arcs #readers #augustbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CMUv1-OAJKS/?igshid=t11rimr17xo6

🎉PUBLICATION DAY🎉 I love Tuesdays! I’ve already started A Fire Endless (the sequel to A River Enchanted) and I’m really looking forward to The Light Pirate. (I’m drawn to all the new eco-apocalyptic novels.) Also, as a GenX girl, I have to read No One Left to Come Looking for You, a mystery set in the 1990s New York music scene. Want to know more? I’ve abridged the publisher’s descriptions below: 📖The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton @grandcentralpub A powerful hurricane approaches a small town on the coast of Florida. Kirby Lowe, his pregnant wife, Frida, and their two sons prepare for the worst. When the boys go missing just before the hurricane hits, Kirby heads out into the high winds in search of his children. Left alone, Frida goes into premature labor and gives birth to an unusual child, Wanda, whom she names after the catastrophic storm that ushers her into a society closer to collapse than ever before. 📖A Fire Endless by Rebecca Ross @avonbooks @harpervoyagerus East and West. Humans and Spirits. Breccans and Tamerlaines. The Isle of Cadence has always held itself and its residents in a tenuous balance. But now Bane, the spirit of the North Wind, has pushed everyone and everything in his path off-kilter in a bid to claim dominion over human and spirit alike. 📖No One Left to Come Looking for You by Sam Lipsyte @simonandschuster A darkly comic mystery set in the vibrant music scene of early 1990s New York City. Crime is high. Dive bars, DIY music venues, shady weirdos, and hard drugs are plentiful. The search for a missing band mate introduces a cast of colorful characters and uncovers a sinister entanglement of crimes tied to local real estate barons looking to remake New York City. ❓Where were you in the 90s? Or what is your favorite band? Title: Missing Clarissa Author: Ripley Jones Release Date: March 7th, 2023 Page Count: 249 Format: Audiobook/Netgalley Ebook Start Date: March 7th, 2023 Finish Date: March 8th, 2023 Rating: 5 Stars Review: Two girls who are looking for an amazing project for their journalism class decide to do a podcast investigating the disappearance of a girl in their town. She disappeared twenty years before and the case was never solved. This is more of a case where one girl had the brilliant idea and the other girl went with it. Either way, it was amazing! I think there were parts of the book that I would have liked to have seen get expanded upon a little more. There are also references that I wish were more than just references. This isn't a criticism of the book. It's my own personal opinion. I also wouldn't hate it if there were many other books set involving Blair and Cameron. I don't know if there will be. If it were to ever become a series, I'd instabuy all of the rest of the books in a heartbeat. I wouldn't even need to think twice about it. I started to read it via Netgalley, but I preordered the audiobook once I was sure that I was going to enjoy it very much. The moment it hit my library, I listened to it. The narrator did a fantastic job. I did have to slow down my normal speed to listen to it. Not that I'm complaining. I'd definitely try out other books narrated by her.
