Hello everyone and happy Monday to you all! Hope your week has started off okay, it’s time for a book haul! 😁 Even though I haven’t managed to get to Paula Hawkins’ second novel yet, I was intrigued by her third, A Slow Fire Burning. This follows a gruesome murder on a London houseboat and three different women who may have had reason to kill. I don’t think the second book needs a big introduction if you’ve followed me for a while 😂 I’m obsessed with King and a new novel from him is always cause for celebration. The character Billy Summers is a killer for hire but will only do the job if it’s a truly bad individual. There is one last hit he has to do before he can get out - what could go wrong? How about everything?! Finally, we have a much anticipated read for me, The Women Of Troy after I loved The Silence Of The Girls earlier this year. Review is coming soon - I loved it but not quite as much as the first in the series. I’d love to hear your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! Happy Sunday! I can’t think of a great or good caption so I just leave you my recent purchases here to dwell on. Matt Haigs reasons to stay alive was on my wishlist for such a long time. If you don’t follow him on twitter, then I don’t know. I still have to read Maja Lundes first novel though but the second one I had to have. Having studied ancient history left me with a wish to read everything that reminds me oft that so the Silence of the girls by Pat Barker is a different approach to the Trojan War which I hopefully can read a bit sooner then later. And lastly I finally got my hands on this tome of a book- BeastieBoys Book. Written by Adam Horowitz and Michael Diamond. Even the preface made me tear up. 🌼QOTD: Is there a particular series you always come back to?🌼 . The Regeneration trilogy by Pat Barker is one I was introduced to just after finishing undergrad. It's historical fiction centered in WW1 and deals a lot with the ways we understood (or didn't understand) PTSD at the time. It's heartbreaking and interesting and the writing is beautiful. I've come back to it three times in the last four years. Definitely a favorite. . I finished the third part of Pat Barker's marvellous Regeneration trilogy, with the Booker prize wunning The Ghost Road. Even though I am no expert on Lewis Carroll or his Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, there are aparent references to them that add further layers on top of the Jekyll & Hyde refs of the second book, building even more intrigue and fascination to the beguiling stories of Billy Prior, Dr Rivers, Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon and other real-life people from 1918, with the novel veering off in unexpected tangents to worlds far away. Small passages of the book, such as the inevitable First World War battlefield trench warfare scenes, evoke such unexpected horror and sadness. The stupid things humanity does. Devestating. Amazing writing. So worth reading.
