OKAY WHAT???

I thought that Jerome dying and having Jeremiah be the Joker was cool but I was expecting a more interesting fall into madness. I figured that they were giving Jerome a twin so that they could rewrite the backstory for the iconic character that is The Joker into something more stretched out and in depth than one episode, which was a decision I fully supported. I mean, the Riddler got more than half a season before he started showing his true colors. Ed's struggles with who he was and who he was becoming made his journey legitimately compelling, even though we all knew how it would end from the minute we heard his name.

Imagine if Jeremiah had became close friends with Bruce while they were both struggling with their own unique pulls towards the dark. Imagine the heartbreaking twist that would come with the knowledge that Batman and the Clown Prince of Crime legitimately cared about each other, once upon a time, before destiny interfered to make them the bitter opposites they were destined to be. But nope. Just got hit with some Joker Toxin. That's it. That's the origin story. If Jeremiah really has "the same madness inside of him" that Jerome claimed he had, why couldn't the writers have allowed us to see it before dosing him with stuff that could make the most normal person in the world go on a murder rampage?

Ugh. Such lazy writing, so much wasted potential...

Do you ever hink about how one of the first times we see Jerome be serious for an extended amount of time is when he's confronting his dad about being a terrible father, before Jerome kills him, and he's in so much pain that he's on the verge of tears and he can't muster a smile or a laugh for like several minutes. It's just pure hate and pain...

Do you ever think it was because Jerome speant years thinking that his dad was probably 19271937927593759835 times better than the rest of his family? That if Jerome had ended up with his dad, his life would have been good? Cause I can so clearly see tiny Jerome being like "maybe I'll find him one day" or daydreaming about how wonderful his dad is. Picturing him as a hero, coming to save him. Looking for him everywhere, but Mr. Dad can't find Jerome because the circus moves too much yeah that's it

Then he realizes who his dad actually is and that the asshole's just as bad as everyone else and has been around the whole time and was terrible to him and it's the biggest betrayal because like? Finding out his dad being a hoax took literally the only happiness he still had from him? The initial response about his mom getting "a zinger" in the end was shock, or denial. We see the real agony of the realization when he goes to kill his dad and it murders me to think about it
