What if Jeremy didn’t do anything wrong?

Now hear me out, what if Jeremy wasn’t some extremely violent guy. What if Jeremy was a very sweet and fun up beat kid that one day smth awful happend to him that made him need extensive therapy.

What if that thing was seeing one of his siblings die?? It was mentioned that Jeremy had three siblings. Why do I never see anyone talk about his third sibling, a brother? Cat doesn’t talk about him even though she wanted too and Jeremy doesn’t even want to THINK abt him. What if Bryson got into a fight with unnamed brother and Jeremey saw?? What if Bryson blamed whatever happened on Jeremy and his whole family couldn’t trust him? What if Jeremy had to re learn how to trust people and to get people to trust him. WHAT IF!!! Jeremy had to spend time in juvie because people thought he killed his brother!!!!???!?

So uh niche (?) crossover maybe but every single time I think about Jeremy I have that clip from Starkid's Trail to Oregon where Jeff Blim is just whining "whAt aRE yOUuuU?" and like freaking out at the audience because Jeremy is SO MYSTERIOUS and I need to know everything about him I can see all those little hidden thorns under the surface and I want to make sense of it all!!!!

something like Jeremy’s freshman fall banquet being an absolute disaster and Rhemann being the one to go get him out of jail. Rhemann being the one to try to hold him together as Jeremy screams for Noah. something like James Rhemann having held a boy together long before Jean Moreau came into his life. something like that past experience making none of it any easier. yeah, something like that.

hello gia! I consider you to be the jeremy knox expert so I was wondering: do you have any headcannons for what jeremy was like after his (i assume this to be canon but who knows) brother’s death and before therapy? because cat/laila (i don’t remember which one) insinuated that he was a totally different person before therapy and I’ve been thinking about this so much today because jeremy. thank you!! <3 (sorry this ask isn’t coherent i just have many thoughts 😭)

ray first of all i am beyond honored by this. second of all yes i have SO MANY thoughts

thought 1: thinking about this jeremy is essentially peeling away layers of canon jeremy, right? so first we peel away the therapy, and what he got from therapy (i assume) is being better adjusted and also a hefty bit more in denial, so the fact that he ignores his problems after therapy (which he himself said helped him a lot. i think) means that the way he was reacting to these issues was part of the main problem, so pre-therapy jeremy had terrible adjustment issues, perhaps anger issues. but then this is still jeremy, so he wasn’t predisposed to angry outbursts, except when something boiled up high enough for it to seem like there was no other outlet

thought 2: the next layer we peel off is a support system (in the form of coach rhemann). this is a jeremy that’s incredibly withdrawn but not in a canon jeremy way. like, while canon jeremy is more “i’m fine :) 😊☀️😄” pre-therapy jeremy is more “i’m fine.” neil josten-style

thought 3: guilt!! so much guilt. @tessasilverswan and i were talking just yesterday about how jeremy’s the definition of “i have it so much better than so many people, which means i don’t have the right to be unhappy, which means the fact that i am unhappy is inherently wrong, which means i’m a terrible person.” this got particularly bad after his sibling’s death (in my head this was death by od) because survivor’s guilt and also a building self-loathing about how could he not have noticed? was he so caught up in himself that he couldn’t be there for someone who’d so clearly needed him?

thought 4: all of that said, there was still an element of hope in him, yk? like the helpless hope of it’s got to get better. right? the hope of the literature student, if you will. everything is awful, but something will have to change eventually. please.

thought 5: okay so none of those were actually headcanons so here’s one: his favorite shakespeare play at the time was hamlet, because. ofc. but also because “but break, my heart, for i must hold my tongue.” let’s have a round of applause for jeremy’s projection on act 3 hamlet (other than hamlet, he likes much ado about nothing a lot! but he can’t let people know because that doesn’t fit into his aesthetic 😔) actually i can’t stop thinking about him and act 3 hamlet now. the “antic disposition” being vaguely equivalent to his general avoidance, the “what a piece of work is a man”-esque hints being his quiet little cries for help (which he doesn’t really notice himself; they come in the form of asking his coaches for permission to come practice early so he can get out of the house sooner, spending far longer leaving the locker room at the end of the day than necessary, etc), the culmination of everything into scene 5 re: stabbing polonius = the fall banquet (which i think happens after his sibling’s death)

What if what's happening with Jeremy is that Bryson's drugs are discovered?

Something happens, and Bryson's drugs are discovered in his room, and Bryson says they're Jeremy's because he's cornered.

Jeremy, outraged, furious, says, "Are they? Let's do a drug test right now, this instant. A blood test, whatever you want. We can do whatever you need to corroborate who's taking drugs, who's been taking them for years, who gave them to me in the first place like I told you once. Let's finally clear up any doubts."

But…

But…

Bryson is straight, a law student, and the face of the Wilshires. He is, perhaps, his "grandfather's" future heir.

And the Wilshires have to choose between a drug addict who hasn't yet been exposed as such, and Jeremy, a gay former addict, who failed once and could do it again. Jeremy, who also seems unable to let go of that French boy, the son of mobsters, who has many friends from a community foreign to the image the Wilshires want to portray.

When the police arrive, Warren says NO to Bryson's drug test. It's not necessary.

The drugs are Jeremy's.

But the worst part… the worst part of all this… is that Mathilda knows they're Bryson's (everyone knows because Bryson doesn't want to take the tests and Jeremy begs them to), and when Jeremy calls out to her with a pleading look and watery eyes when she doesn't say anything ("Mom… they're not mine… Mom, you know it… Mom, please…"), Mathilda looks at him, absentmindedly fixes his hair, and says:

"We'll fix it, Jeremy, but you have to do this for your family. You owe us, honey. You owe us, don't you think?"

And the police take him away.

And this is Jeremy's breaking point: knowing that everything he's done has been worthless because it wasn't about "drugs" or "Noah." It's always been about "who Jeremy is."

i have completely convinced myself that in tsc2, after kevin and jean do that interview to salvage jean’s reputation, kevin is going to get drunk. that’s his only coping mechanism and that interview is going to be very difficult for him—being so close to jean will be difficult, talking about the ravens will be difficult, talking about riko’s death will be nearly impossible

jean knows nothing about kevin’s alcoholism. when they were close, kevin had never drank in his life (“ravens don’t drink”). if kevin gets drunk in front of him, he’s going to handle it very badly. it will be so startling for him, because kevin has changed. in both good and bad ways, kevin has changed from when jean used to know him. and jean doesn’t know the drunken version of kevin and he’d also be upset from the interview. and they’d probably get into an argument

idk…i think it would be interesting…kind of neat…yk
