thinking about alchemy of souls again because of course, and man, Park Jin really told a 19 year old suffocating in grief—who also just died??—that he should never have been born and was therefore responsible for every single thing that went wrong in the country, especially the miserable life and death of the woman he mourns and loves more than his own soul.
And then he wonders why Uk is so lifeless and unable to move on...

My thoughts on The Glory
[Spoilers Below]
The editing style was hit and miss for me. See I do like the cutting away from a scene at the right moment, and then revealing the rest of the scene at a later time. It keeps things interesting. But the problem is they did it too often! To the point where I kinda want someone to edit the whole show into chronological order so that they can make it clear when something happened. I mean all I really know for sure is that Myeong-O was murdered on October 19th at around 11:20pm because they kept going back to it lol.
The final episode was a bit of a mess. They can cut out that flashback reveal of the old land lady and young Dong-Eun, and replace it with much needed final shots of the three still-living members of the shitheads. I want a where are they now scene! I needed a scene of Sa-Ra, in prison either sober from drugs finally feeling shit and regretful OR now in prison more drugged up than ever before! Hye-Jeong, now unable to talk, struggles to find work, to communicate, is unable to bag a rich man. And lastly Yeon-Jin...Don't call me sadistic but I kinda wanted to see a violent scene of Yeon-Jin in prison where a group of women (preferably five) gang up on her and force her hand into boiling hot cooking oil or something. Is that crazy? idk it just felt like the final scene of her in prison wasn't enough! I need to see her skin burn!! ....uh anyway.
What I find frustrating, is that I don't know where Dong-Eun's plans and machinations end and the on-the-fly choices of the shitheads begins. It's like...what actually was the point of her becoming a teacher? Why did she reveal herself to the shitheads at the school? Why did it feel like she barely did anything? I guess the answer is 'to keep her hands clean' but idk, it feels wishy washy. Like what would she have done if Jae-Joon actually didn't give a shit that Ye-Sol was his daughter? She told Sa-Ra to fill up a bag full of cash but didn't really give a threatening reason why, Sa-Ra doesn't reeeeaally give a shit about hiding her drug problem. And WHY didn't the shitheads just KILL Dong-Eun? They were monsters as kids they should act far worse now. They're rich enough to hire hitmen ya know? Problem solved. It frustrated me because she revealed herself, openly told them that she was going to destroy them, and they DIDN'T ban together to destroy her first? They're shitheads but do they really have shit for brains??
I did like the reveal of Dong-Eun specifically targeting Yeo-Jeong all those years back, because of his family connection to the hospital where So-Hee's body was. I liked it bc a lot of times during Part 2, his rich people privilege and family connection really helped and I kept thinking "well isnt this convenient" or "its pretty lucky that he's on your side", but as it turns out; it wasn't convenient! It wasn't luck! It was part of her far-fetched "plan". Though it's pretty dang lucky that he was so devoted to her, before she even really did anything.
Dong-Eun and Yeo-Jeong have zero chemistry idgaf. Her and Do-Yeong on the other hand! Now that was chemistry! Now regarding Do-Yeong, it didn't sit well with me that Do-Yeong was the one who murdered Jae-Joon. It makes sense to protect Ye-Sol but ultimately it wasn't really in his character to do that. I wish Ye-Sol all the best and that she seeks therapy.
Also Dong-Eun's mother? Tragic, very sad, but honestly she should've taken care of her mother years ago. She didn't need to do much to get her into an institution.
Despite all my critiques, I thoroughly enjoyed this drama. It takes a lot for me to sit through k-dramas, and this one was top quality binge worthy

Amergency Act 19 (긴급조치 19호)
Tumblr media
It is a satirical 2002 South Korean film about a government act that prohibits popular music and passed in response to a number of musicians being elected to government elsewhere in the world. It is notable for the numerous K-pop stars that make appearances in the film.
Directed by: Kim Tae-gyu
Written by: Kim Sung-dong and Lee Seung-guk
Produced by: Song Chang-yong
Starring: Kim Jang-hoon as himself, Hong Kyung-min as himself, Gong Hyo-jin as Min-ji, Noh Joo-hyun as the Chief Secretary and Min-ji's father and Ju Yeong-hun as himself
List of Cameos:
Besides the main cast, there are a number of actors and K-pop singers and groups who make cameos in the film as themselves.
They are: Kim Sung-oh as soldier 2 at Vinyl House, Baby V.O.X., Brown Eyes, CAN, Chakra, Click-B, Fin.K.L, Harisu, Kangta, Koyote, NRG, Shinhwa, UN, and Psy
Plot:
Troubled by the growing worldwide trend of pop singers being elected as politicians, the President of South Korea orders his Chief Secretary to invoke "Emergency Act 19". This new law criminalizes all pop singers, and the army is deployed on the streets of Seoul to round them up. One pop star, Hong Kyung-min, is arrested while performing a concert, but his angry fans mob the soldiers as they try to take him away. The Chief Secretary's teenage daughter, Min-ji, is amongst the fans, and leading her idol to safety gives him her phone number. Kyung-min finally makes a getaway with his friend and fellow pop star, Kim Jang-hoon.
Once Jang-hoon and Kyung-min become fully aware of the situation, they contact Min-ji, who is able to hide the two singers in a secret location. The Chief Secretary finds out that his daughter is working against him, and when she refuses to give them up, he has false news reports created, accusing the singers of sexually assaulting minors. Meanwhile, more pop stars are rounded up by the authorities who are now aided by another singer, Ju Yeong-hun, who decides to betray his friends in order to save himself.
Angered by their tarnished reputations, Jang-hoon and Kyung-min acquire a gun from a shady weapons dealer, and with Min-ji's help they are able to take the Chief Secretary and his staff hostage. They take their captives to the park, where Min-ji has organized a mass demonstration with her friends and other music fans. The army arrive on the scene and engage the demonstrators in conflict, finally capturing Jang-hoon and Kyung-min. The Chief Secretary is able to walk free in all the chaos, but he is appalled by the violence and orders the fighting to stop, convincing the President to repeal the emergency act and restoring peace.

I couldn't find this movie with subs anywhere I usually watch kdramas but found it on YouTube in 2 parts without eng subs.
If anyone knows where I could watch this movie fully with eng subs would be very helpful.
youtube
(Part 1 above and Part 2 below)
youtube
This movie is based on events that happened in South Korea during the 1970s and 1980s with censorship during the Park Chung Hee Presidency (1961-1979) and Chun Doo Hwan Presidency (1980-1988).
This blog explains a bit about how Seotaji combatted censorship after the 1980s.
More about the censorship during the 1980s in South Korea.
This blog is about the evolution of Korean music in the 70s to the 80s with censorship
The wiki about the Amergency Act 19 (긴급조치 19호) movie.
Should probably go into more detail about this topic, but it gets very long and can be very confusing, and I would rather explain this in my Korean music history on male and female groups.

The Results are in!!!
Tumblr media
I asked about maybe a week ago, who do you think the MC will get the chance to kiss first. So let’s get into it!!
The results voted in favor of… Seong-hwa!
But as you can see, I voted for Castiel.
So, let’s dig into the reasons I chose Castiel and we will go into the most voted. 😊
The reason I voted for Castiel is because I feel throughout the story/book. The MC and Castiel will be definitely spending a lot of time together due to the connection that binds them and who. If I’m being truthful, because they share this specific thing in common, I feel they will grow to getting more familiar with each other than Seong-hwa. I feel if anyone is going to get the option to get kissed first is probably Castiel taking in his reputation and willing nature to break the rules.
Now moving to the most popular pick, Seong-hwa, he is a leader and his personality seems sweet and mysterious. However, he shoulders a lot more responsibilities than Castiel. I feel if put in a position where he gets to kiss MC he’d probably double think his actions. If I’m being honest, MC may get the chance to kiss Seong-hwa at maybe in the middle and close to the ending of Season 1. Maybe even more likely the beginning of Season 2. But ultimately, Seong-hwa isn’t risky. But we will see haha.
Lia and Jin Doo-yeong were the least most voted. And honestly, I get it. Lia and Mr.Jin are the two people we know the least about. It makes sense they’d not be favored right now since MC hasn’t even personally gotten to know them all that well like Cas and Seong-hwa. However, as season 1 further’s itself. Some promising things may happen with these two that may surprise us. Maybe enough for them to be the one the MC kisses first.
Let’s talk about it? What y’all think?

JBL | Character Quotes - Ep. 16 [Pt. 2]
MS: Because it’s uncomfortable...because time has passed, because we received compensation money. It’s no good if we just start forgetting like that, right? That’s why the same things keep repeating again.
JW: Thank you for everything. Thanks to you and Kang Doo-ssi, I was able to stick to my principles.
KD: If I throw even that away!! ...how am I supposed to live? I know perfectly well that I wrecked [my own liver]! How am I supposed to live happily having stolen Sang Man’s!?
JY: Despite having nothing, what are you holding onto your pride for? Throw such foolish things away, please—!
SM: Hyung, don’t make such a face~ At these times, you just say ‘thank you —,’ like that.
SM: Hyung, smile~ Do you remember what Cho Woo said in Good Warrior? [KD: I don’t~] ‘Those who have something to protect don’t die easily.’ Do you remember? [KD: I know. Yeah.] So don’t worry, we’re not going to die~!
KD: You, and Sang Man too, you’ve done everything you can. // You’ve done a lot~ You’ve done a lot...so stop now.
JY: Do? What’ve I done? Just what exactly have I ever done for you, Oppa?!
Doc: What is it your brother does? Just how has he lived that so many people are saying they’ll give him their liver?
KD: Talk about shameful and embarassing things from time to time~ Don’t keep everything piled up inside. It’s better for your health that way.

Second male leads I have SLS for
I just felt like making this post bc our boys deserve some love. They’re ranked by a combination of how much I love them and how much I rooted for them to get the girl (or in a couple cases guy).
Nam Seon Ho - My Country: The New Age I love his gay bastard ass. He just wanted a boyfriend and for everyone to stop bullying him and I sympathize. He, Hwi, and Sung Rok were the real love triangle in that show prove me wrong.
Sam Maek Jong - Hwarang: Poet Warrior Youth I love Park Seo Joon to death but I really adore Maek Jong as a character and I love Park Hyung Sik to an equal extent. That scene where he offered to run away with her? I would’ve fallen for him instantly. I really wanted him to get the girl to the extent that I read Hwarang fanfiction lmao.
Baek In Ho - Cheese in the Trap Sweet sweet boy. Never did anything wrong his entire life. Main boy on the other hand? Violent sociopath. I will not be accepting any arguments on that opinion.
Kang Joon Hee - Reply 1997 We don’t talk about him enough honestly. He’s canon in love with the male lead and it’s honestly so heart breaking how he loves him without asking for anything. When he confesses to him but let’s it get passed off as a joke it makes me so sad. Also hes just so baby and sweet I love him.
Kang Sin Jae - The King: Eternal Monarch He’s not higher on the list because KEM isn’t over so there’s more to know about him but like I really wish he’d end up with the girl because they’re dynamic is so much more interesting and he’s such an interesting character to me. I even drew their hug lol.
Seo Ha Joon - Cheer Up/Sassy Go Go I honestly haven’t watched this drama in a long time so I don’t remember much. I do remember really wishing him happiness because his home life was so heartbreaking and his crush on the main girl was so incredibly sweet.
Nam Eun Gi - Her Private Life I just thought he was incredibly sweet and his friendship with Deok Mi and Seon Joo was so fun, because they’re dynamic was so fun. I also found his teasing really cute and his confession was so romantic “I can wait for you” like aw qt (also that shower scene got me like 0_0) . His ending was so adorable, he and Cindy are such a cute couple, so given that he gets a better ending than some of the men higher on this list (despite that i love him so much) he is here at number 7 because I am satisfied with his ending.
In Guk Doo - Strong Woman Do Bong Soon I found Guk Doo’s crush so relatable and I thought he just really deserved a happy ending after what he went through with his girlfriend. Also his one-that-got-away menality towards Bong Soon was a lil tragic and I felt for him.
Park Jung Woo - Temperature of Love He would be higher on this list because I rooted for him so hard (I teared up at the scene where he dreams of what they’d be like together) but I was Not ok with the way he treated Jung Sun at all. He basically asked for permission before attempting to compete for the girl which I respect but like when he provoked Jung Sun into punching him I was so pissed off.
Baek Kyung - Extraordinary You Unpopular opinion but just because his character development was complex and he was conflicted doesn’t mean he didn’t develop. I didn’t want him with the girl but I really rooted for his development, his realization and struggle with his feelings were believable even if I didn’t support his decisions. His final scene was a deserved ending to his arc.
Han Woo Tak - While You Were Sleeping A baby boy, beautiful cinnamon roll
Kang Seo Woo - Cinderella and the Four Knights I think its touching that he never confesses his feelings, and he’s also a sweetie. I love him and the friend together, they’re mad cute.
Ma Wang Joon - Absolute Boyfriend He was a jerk at times but I really sympathized with his reasons for breaking up. I didn’t finish this show but I hoped he would get a good ending.
Lee Tae Seong - Playful Kiss I remember almost nothing about this show except that I hated the male lead with a passion and I remember feeling like the main girl’s crush on him was wildly unhealthy and she needed to have a life outside of liking him. So I felt she’d be better off with this guy.
Honorable Mentions:
Ko Choeng Myung - Hotel Del Luna He’s here because he’s not technically a second male lead but I loved him, The scene where he died made me cry and I think about it A Lot.
Wang Wook - Scarlet Heart Ryeo Only first few episodes Wook though, because unpopular opinion number two: he wasn’t that bad at first even though I always loved So waaay more.
Woo Do Hwan’s character (he’s unnamed lmao) - Dramaworld Also not technically the second male lead but he is in the drama that dramaworld is inside so ??? anyway he’s literally only here because he’s Woo Do Hwan lol and also he gets the girl!!!!
Park Hae Jin - 7 First Kisses You could argue that he’s not a second male lead because there isn’t really a male lead here, you could also argue that Lee Min Ho is the male lead and therefore there are 6 second male leads. Either way Park Hae Jin, Lee Jong Suk, and Kai were my favorites.
Jo Yeong - The King: Eternal Monarch He’s literally only here because he’s not technically the second male lead but his unrequited love for Lee Gon is just so amazing that if he were a second male lead I would put him right up there with Sin Jae but alas.
Wang Jung - Scarlet Heart Ryeo He made some questionable decisions but ultimately he helped her get away from the palace, loved her, and took care of her without ever asking for more. Definitely better than Wook lmao I know I put first few episodes Wook on here but don’t get me wrong, after he character develops, I hate that guy.
Thanks for reading yet another of my dumb lists! Hope you vibe with my dumbass opinions lol. Have a wonderful day! <3

Hey, I was wondering if you have any recommendations of kdramas where the boy falls for the girl first ? Love your blog, thanks :D Ps: sorry for any mistakes, English is not my first language
Your english is GREAT anon!
K-Dramas where the Boy Falls First
[Updated list 10/20/19)
When the Camellia Blooms: It’s love at first site for Hwang Yong Shik when he encounters a single mom and her son. Dong Baek considers herself unlucky and is being stalked by a murder and has all sorts of problems falling in her lap, but Yong Shik is super protective and totally heart eyes for her no matter what.
Tumblr media
Angel’s Last Mission: A kind-hearted and adorable angel falls in love with The World’s Biggest Grump. Get your tissues ready.
One Spring Night: Yoo Ji Ho & Lee Jung In She likes him pretty fast if I’m honest but does fight the urge, where he is just puppy heart eyes from the start.
He is Psychometric: Lee Ahn & Yoon Jae In AND 2nd couple Lee Dae Bong and Kim So Hyun Both boys are totally into the girls so this is like a double whammy of cute boy likes girl first love stories.
Flower Boy Next Door: Everyone is in love with Go Dok Mi She has a love triangle but Enrique Geum is freakin’ adorable and works super hard to bring her out of her shell.
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo: This is tragic and I don’t recommend unless you want to be left in a devastated puddle but doesn’t everyone think Wang So and Heo Soo are a grump and sunshine pairing (even though there isn’t a lot of room for sunshine)?
Tumblr media
Search: WWW: Bae Ta Mi & Park Mo Geon Noona romance where he aggressively courts her but she doesn’t consider him relationship material due to the age difference. They do hook up but she resists an actual relationship for a while.
Encounter: CEO Cha Soo Hyun & Manic Pixie Dream Boy Kim Jin Hyuk Most noona romances have the guy being super into the girl and the girl resists their charms because of age and status, and this is totally like that.
Ho Goo’s Love: Ho Goo & Do Hee He looooooooooves herrrrrr :P
Just Between Lovers: Kang Doo & Moon Soo He likes her first, like waaaaaay first back in time. The two of these lovelies are my faves so, yeah
Secret Love Affair: Lee Sun Jae & Oh Hye Won Because she’s married and is much older, she tries to fight loving him, but he is super into her the minute he sees her. Intense noona romance warning.
Romance is a Bonus Book: Cha Eun Ho & Kang Dan Yi Because she’s older and always thought of Eun Ho as a friend, she didn’t notice how much he loved her at first.
Tumblr media
Shopping King Louis: Louis & Bok Sil These cuties are so adorable and Louis sees her on TV and just basically falls for her instantly. I’m not sure she’s exactly uninterested in him but she has a bunch of stuff to worry about so she’s not really thinking romance right away.
Strong Woman Do Bong Soon: Bong Soon & Min Hyuk Min Hyuk is so into her, he has a painting of her in his CLOSET ok while she’s mostly pining for a bossy sexist cop.
The Package: Ma Roo & So So She’s a tour guide so she has no interest in getting involved with any of her clients but Ma Roo is a bit charming and totally likes her.
What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim: Kim Mi So & Yeong Joon I’m not 100% sure this one counts but I think it’s pretty obvious that he really likes Mi So but she knows he’s too conceited to date so turns him down at first.

Who would you say your top 10 (or however many off the top of your head!) favorite kdrama characters are? ☺️
Oh, Nonnie, you have to ask the difficult questions! I have so many characters I love. So let’s just throw some of my favorites out there.
Individuals:
Jin Joo (and, honestly the entire cast) ~ Be Melodramatic ~ Relatable, funny..I adore her.
Tumblr media
Seol Ok ~ Queen of Mystery ~ I love that she is an older woman and she’s portrayed as the super smart one in the show. She’s adorable.
Tumblr media
Hye Ran ~ Misty ~ The show may have gone off the rails, but she didn’t. I adore her character and that she was unapologetic about who she was.
Tumblr media
Tae Mi, Scarlett and Ga Kyung ~ Search: WWW ~ Finally, a show with STRONG WOMEN. All of them were badass, smart and in charge of their lives. I want more of these types of characters.
Tumblr media
Couples:
Dong Man and Ae Ra ~ Fight My Way
They are individually great characters and they just lit up the screen together. They have such a sweet, honest and funny relationship.
Tumblr media
Gang Doo and Moon Soo ~ Just Between Lovers
I looooove them. Moon Soo is so strong despite all she’s been through and Gang Doo is the ultimate tough on the outside, marshmallow on the inside guy.
Tumblr media
Jung Hoo and Yeong Shin ~ Healer
Two of my favorite actors and two of my favorite characters.
Tumblr media
Ji Ho and Jung In ~ One Spring Night
I adored their relationship. She is so resilient while he simmers with that quiet strength.
Tumblr media
Seon Ho and Hwi ~ My Country
Yes, they’re a couple. My soft boy and my tragic boy. *sigh*
Tumblr media
Honestly, there’s so many more I could list, but these are the ones ‘off the top of my head.’
Thank you for the ask!
