word on the street is that pirates of the caribbean is getting rebooted and apparently everyone is moanin and groanin about johnny depp not being there any more and im like. the only one who thinks that the potc as a brand will be just fine without johnny depp or jack sparrow, not even just because of them allegations against depp, but because jack sparrow was absolutely not the only good part of potc. like yea jack sparrow is cool and all but potc's greatness was a group effort of pirate romanticism and mysticism in the writing, memorable characters other than jack such as will and elizabeth and davy jones, and meticulously well crafted filmmaking that brought these elements to life

i believe that gore verbinski, jerry bruckheimer, and terry rossio all have the sauce to create epic swashbuckling adventures without relying on one individual actor or character, and much like a well run pirate crew, its not just the captain that takes all the booty. also i believe that the only people who claim jack sparrow was the only best part of potc are just trying to make a martyr out of him

which brings me to my next point that personally i wouldnt have rebooted pirates of the caribbean, but used the universe already there to explore other characters besides being beholden to jack and the pearl crew all the time, however im still hopeful for the reboot. im of the belief that being beholden to specific franchise characters without daring to create or explore new ones that are at least mostly apart from them is how we keep getting star wars stories about the origins of the womp rats luke skywalker used to shoot at and shit like that. comfortable nostalgia is the mind killer and whatnot.

in conclusion, i believe the peoples love of high seas adventures, as evidenced by avatar 2, is stronger than one lone character and the reboot will do well hopefully. in short, yarrrgh

The stella hate she received is too much and this is the twisted thing i see, they compare stella to amber heard an actual real life victim of abuse. Amber heard this woman who speak up about being abused by her husband johnny depp what does she get death threat, harassment, bullied, mockery , etc. Stella this character is so demonized that a lot people don't ever think she's a sentient being with emotion too

If we look at historical context often the female royal member are often seeing baby making machine. Only a few female royal member become leader in the monarchy system often it's male royal member. The systemic sexism if the husband of royal famliy cheat the wife get in trouble and consider failure of her marriage. That means stella she's very disadvantage

1. Stolas cheat she consider to be failure not stolas

2. Stella doesn't play any important role her role is just sit there and looking pretty

3. She is disposable after fullfiling her role now the system consider her useless

4. Her noble rank her parent definitely want their status to be elevated so of course they choose stella

5. Often woman in this system get abused and they put in really high standard

And stolas. I'm sorry people are so desperate painting him as not like the other royalty who's relatable, kind, down to earth, no he's not even closed to that. The writer fail that part i seen character who's royalty actually use their privilege for good

In question did stolas use her privilege for good? All he did use to exploit blitzo and use that for he's own benefit. Vivziepop you know diana spencer can be used as one of your inspiration right? Diana spencer princess of wales this is an example of royal family member use her privilege for good

She break the stigma people who have hiv and aids, she actually interact with other people who have different status from her, she care about people well being, because of that a lot people liked her. After she died people also remember and sadden by her death

How about let's not compare real life cases of abused victims to the abuse fictional characters are suffering from a poorly written demon show?

Exactly, that's what fans are not understanding either. The critical community doesn't pity and empathize with Stella because we see her as this harmless angel but because she is also a victim like Stolas is of Hell's monarchy system. Whether fans want to admit it or not, Stella would absolute take the blame for the marriage failing, not Stolas. Stolas has an important role to do, they wanted a heir to HIS throne, and to quote HezuNeutral from their, Helluva Boss Continues to Circle Spiral video,"If Stella was infertile she'd be screw" because her only purpose in this system is to give birth. It's frustrating that Stella gets reduce to a black and white villain instead of a morally gray one because Viv doesn't want to be nuanced about the affair but even more frustrating, she can't even do her role as a villain right because not only is Stella, terrible inaccurate rep of domestic abusers but also because she is so dumb that she needs her brother to point out when Stolas dies, all of his things would be inherited by Octavia and not her. As if (I'm assuming) one of the actual reasons why she stayed in the marriage was because she like spending his money and what caused them to be so miserable was she and Stolas were arranged to give birth to an heir!

Stolas isn't good either, he still treats imps like shit, using his butler as a stressed toy, talking down to imps, it's just he “acts" less racist towards I.M.P.

Changing how real people posts are handled and propaganda rules

Hi everyone, I've been thinking about this for a while now (specifically since someone suggested that the Snoop Dogg Slaughter post may have been about the death of a real person) and I'm going to change how the posts regarding real people are done. I don't mind polling real people as long as:

The reason they've been submitted is to do with their stage/media persona and not their personal lives or like, a real tragedy or something OR

It's vague enough that it couldn't be tied back to them (like the "Would my mysterious friend Greyson be an avatar of The Stranger" or "Would I, hitting see results become an avatar of the Eye" posts)

But I'm not really comfortable making jokey fandom posts about serious issues that have happened in people's personal lives, examples being the aforementioned Snoop Dogg post or if someone submitted Johnny Depp or Amber Heard because of their trial (nobody has done this so far, but please don't). I also don't want to poll billionaire CEOs or politicians. This is mostly personal preference, it could maybe be funny depending on your perspective, but thinking about most of them tends to make me depressed or angry, and that's not really how I want to feel about this blog.

The difficulty I've been facing with a lot of these posts is that unlike for a character, a lot of the information regarding these people is about their personal lives. Like, I don't even know if that is why Snoop Dogg was submitted for the Slaughter or if it was about his music. So I've been trying to decide what to do about these posts.

One solution suggested by one of the mods is that going forward if you're submitting a real person it should require a sentence of propaganda/reason for submission (and for fictional characters you could also include this if you want). For the unreblogged posts about real people what I think I will do is reblog them if someone suggests a reason for submission to do with their stage persona, otherwise I'll just talk about the votes and not mention anything else. I think this could be a good solution but if you guys have any ideas/alternatives/criticism feel free to comment.

Shadow & Bone | Show - Unfortunately it got canceled after Season Two 😐, but there is a petition for it to be bought and continued. There’s also a book series about them called the same thing. I’m currently reading them

Avatar 1 & 2 | Movie - They’re very good movies about a knockoff Columbus with a gun and giant blue aliens instead of Indians

Grey’s Anatomy | Show - It does get annoying and so many people die. I still recommend it though 😁

Alice In Wonderland 1 & 2 | Movie - The second movie is called Alice Through The Looking Glass. They’ve got Johnny Depp in them ���

The Blacklist | Show - It’s a very cool show with a giant plot twist in it. Elizabeth might make you wanna run her over with a lawnmower though 😭

my experience in the Harry Potter fandom (before we all realized Rowling was a talentless hack, an attention whore, and a spiteful bitch) from ages 6 to 12 was blind adoration, until the last book came out and was a steaming pile of shit thus killing my interest in the series and turning me into the most jaded of teenagers you’ve ever met in your entire life.

i still read the odd fic here and there, but ages 13-16 I was way more into avatar the last airbender, avengers, pokemon, jak & daxter, warcraft, inheritance, death note, invader zim, and all of my contemporaries were into HP and twilight and thus by extension so was I. and I still occasionally was like okay yeah the books are mediocre schlock at best but hey they helped destigmatize the occult in the mainstream eye, and the movies did the best job they could with what they were given, and the books COULD have been good if only you’d just changed like 90% of them. the fandom wasn’t about the books themselves, it was all about the culture that the books had created. because nobody really read any of the books more than once because everybody just watched the movies (DON’T EVEN LIE AND SAY THATS NOT TRUE).

we all rolled our eyes at rowling jingling her keys to make us talk about it again and again but it’s like, ok so dumbledore is gay but you didn’t fucking show it and you made the actual gay character lupin die offscreen, ok so snape was apparently a good person underneath being a toxic shitlord but you didn’t fucking show it and you made the actual only good person hagrid a complete non-entity, ok so Anthony Goldstein was apparently your jewish representation but you didn’t fucking even say his goddamn name once in the entire series and the only black characters were racebent for the movies because you didn’t fucking even mention they were black because we know full fuckin well that every single character was white except for CHO. GODDAMN. CHANG.

all you really had to do was say, okay yeah in my youthful ignorance I accidentally made a contribution to problematic media and so I will now strive to fix my mistakes and write a new series that shows how I have grown as an author. except she didn’t do that. she just greenlit the cursed child and accepted royalties for fantastic beasts. and if it weren’t for eddie redmayne and the fact that it’s part of a licensed franchise, the movie would have totally flopped. it was not very good. and jude law and johnny depp did their best but the script was awful and it suffered from prequelitis (which so far only Star Wars has avoided and even then only very narrowly due to saturation). rowling didn’t even have any fucking writing credits on the movie but she made a fat stack of cash anyway. that’s a trend you’ll notice.

every single way I ever found enjoyment in the fandom was in reading people on here suggesting ways to improve it, or to parody it. like desi harry and black hermione, a very potter musical, potter puppet pals, a billion different rewrites that were all way better than the source materials. i even read my immortal, AND YES IT IS REALLY REALLY BAD not even in an ironic so bad it’s good kind of way, I mean that it was just absolutely godawful in every conceivable way, and was only a highlight of how not to write a fanfic. it was so bad that I reread the original books as a palate cleanser. and let me tell you this, harry potter and the sorcerer’s stone is one of the clumsiest books I’d ever read as a teenager. it’s completely amateur in every way, and it made me understand just why it was so popular with the 13-16 year old crowd. it was written at their reading level. the passages from the actual HP books are all virtually indistinguishable from fanfictions I read over a decade ago made by people who are in their early 20s now. in fact there are plenty of fanfictions written by teenagers that are better written than even the least shitty HP book which is defaulted to half blood prince if only because for once there’s actually some narrative cohesion that isn’t a complete and total ass pull and because if you’ve written five full length books then you goddamn well better understand the basics. engaging with the source material was not fun at all and the only way to milk any fun from it was to make fun of it. and by age 16 I was sick and tired of the cynicism. and around that age is when I joined the my little pony fandom.

and they were the two best years of my life at the time. it was nice to be engaging with wholesome content while also making memes that poked fun at its occasional harmless flaws. I watched other fandoms from a distance but MLP was my primary and honestly it still is, I just haven’t been as heavily involved with it these days beyond listening to the music and rebubbling fanart and even on occasion dabbling in the fanfic realm. but it was integral to me figuring out that hey wait a second I’m not a boy after all haha oops. so when I was 18 and finally transed my gender everything was… fine. ten years later I’m more into games that end with craft lmao

and then everything changed when the terf nation attacked.

by the time the queer parts of the Harry Potter fanbase (who weren’t abject pieces of garbage) were shocked & appalled by the betrayal I was the old coot in my rocking chair holding back the urge to say I FUCKING TOLD YOU SO. when people went back and were like, hey actually wow the books were full of racism and antisemitism, all of the black brown jewish etc parts of the former fandom did not hold back the urge to say we fucking told you so. but as a whole white trans people didn’t really seem to care about its problematic natures until it affected them. which is not a good enough reason to bully harass and suicidebait them especially since they were like 12. thankfully that seems to have done wonders in having the collective media literacy of white trans teenagers increase somewhat. that was a few years ago now and I’ll freely admit that I’m somewhat out of touch with the youth right now, I don’t have a tiktok, I don’t use twitter or instagram, I barely use tumblr. i couldn’t tell you the name of one single popular singer these days, and if I did it would be someone that the kids would roll their eyes at and call me a boomer because I said rihanna or beyonce or nicki minaj or something from the 00s and/or 10s. my favorite musicians all started in the 90s. if I asked out somebody who was only 20 it would be weird and creepy. i know where I stand in society these days and that’s fine. but I don’t exactly know where things stand as far as where most teenagers are at. i hope they’re doing fine. i hope they escaped the clutches of the damage HP did. oh wait I forgot about the blood libel game, gOD DAMN IT-
