But I made it. Johnny caught in this gas explosion and his recovering at Rampart, though I’d love to have seen the rescue here. Aw man! Now he’s bored and not happy with the outcome. Poor Johnny!

Unoriginal I know but when it comes to whump I really love whumpees with high fevers receiving lots of attention and care from a caretaker. But I can't seem to find any media outside of fanfics that really focuses in on that sort of whump, at least not for very long. Got any episode suggestions?

I LOVE THIS TROPE SO MUCH!!!!! It's the best and I really wish we had it more because it's so good and never fails to give me whumperflies.

Okay some scenes with this I love. Now tv shows don't often focus on this trope for a long time but you can check these out

Natsume Yuujinchou. I don't know how you feel about anime but animes always tend to have some really great fever/cartaking episodes and Natsume gets fevers ALL THE TIME and they're always amazing. Take a look at these episodes in particular: 2x05, 2x09, 3x12, 5x11, 6x05

Fruits Basket 1x09 (the newer anime) and Special A 1x12 are two of my favorite anime whump fever/sick episodes.

BBC Merlin. Got two episodes for you. Merlin in 1x04 and Arthur in 1x13

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Graceland 3x08. I think I find a way to rec this all the time lol. But it's got a lot of great caretaking for the character currently having a bad time and has a really high fever so they need to cool him down with an ice bath!

Outlander does this well too. 5x09 has Jamie getting bitten by a poisonous snake and he spikes a high fever and everyone worries and takes care of him. It's beautiful.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer 3x22 is a good one. Angel is shot with a poison tipped arrow and gets a high fever. The scooby gang take care of him while looking for a cure.

Emergency! 2x04 Johnny Gage catching a bad, unknown virus and falling very sick? High fever? EMS partner Roy looking after him? So good!

Hawaii Five-0 8x09 there's a good scene where the whole team is sick from a virus and Danny isn't doing well, has a high fever, and Steve is taking care of him.

Doctor Who "The Christmas Invasion" has David Tennant recovering from his recent regeneration and he gets a fever.

Smallville 2x16 When Martha and later Clark are exposed to Kryptonite-irradiated spores and become gravely ill, it falls to Jonathan to find a way to save his family.

Sleepy Hollow 1x05 Ichabod gets a high fever after becoming infected with a virus that killed the inhabitants of Roanoke.

There's an episode of M*A*S*H where everyone catches the flu and Hawkeye is the only one really left standing and then he catches it too and has to work through the fever while taking care of everyone else. Hawk is both the whumpee and the caretaker at one point. It's good. It's 2x11 "Carry On, Hawkeye"

I also highly suggest taking a look at of-wounds-and-woes blog because they post some amazing fever whump scenes from various Turkish, Brazillian, Russian, Portuguese, etc tv shows and they're always amazing. I mean the appendicitis episode of Ouro Verde is the best.

Here's another fluffy whump four your Saturday afternoon. This is for day 17, self inflicted wound. It's a companion piece to this mornings post.

R & J Forever

A couple weeks after the spectacular debut of Roy's tattoo, Chet and Johnny were out bowling together when the subject of said tattoo came up.

"You wouldn't have the guts, Kelly." Johnny said as he rolled the ball down the lane, grumbling over the split he wound up with.

"Well. You're certainly a far braver man than me, to go up against the phantom with such lousy bowling skills."

"Shut up, Chet." Johnny said, tossing his opponent a dirty look before skillfully picking up the spare. "Ha!"

"You don't have the guts either, Gage." Chet said, taking his turn in the lane.

"It's not a matter of guts, Kelly, but desire."

"Likely story."

The needling went on like that through two games until Chet had Johnny’s pride on the ropes and Johnny had several beers into Chet. They piled into the Rover and headed to their next destination for the evening. Johnny had wheedled the name of the shop out of Roy.

Johnny proudly showed his new artwork in the locker room at the start of the next shift. Smokey the Bear stood proudly on the left side of his chest, directly over his heart. Roy looked at Johnny in disbelief.

"I pick up one lousy overtime shift and this is what you do?"

Johnny was offended. Splaying his hand across his chest he fired up immediately.

"Listen Pally, I don't need a babysitter!"

Fortunately his rant was diverted by Chet’s appearance.

"Besides, you should see what and where Kelly ended up with his!" Johnny said with unbridled glee.

"Shut up, Gage." Chet grumbled, burying his flaming face into his locker. Which caught everyone's attention.

"What did you get, Chet?" Mike asked, not bothering to hide the laughter.

"Where did you get it, Chet?" Marco asked in a similar fashion.

When Chet turned his back and loftily ignored them, Johnny took it on himself to explain.

"Remember when he took that axe and put feathers on it?"

"He got a fire axe with feathers on it.." Roy said incredulously. "On his ass?"

The entire crew lost it at Johnny’s confirming nod.

Later, at roll call, Cap announced that they'd be doing some drills today. Particularly the one Chet dreaded the most, the timed gearing up drill. He protested, but blushed and stammered when asked why he should be excused.

"Listen. If you twits want to go out and get these self-inflicted wounds, that's fine. But don't expect sympathy from me!"

To their credit, they all tried not to laugh.

Two weeks and some major drama later, Roy and Johnny lay wrapped around each other as the warm afternoon sun filtered through the blinds of Johnny’s apartment window. Finally able to take the time, Roy was admiring Johnny’s tattoo while those wonder filled brown eyes studied his face in return.

Johnny loved to look at Roy, so he didn't miss the look of delighted surprise when Roy saw the cleverly hidden R & J.

"No forever?" Roy asked.

"It's there." Johnny reassured him. "It'll just take forever to find it."

"I'm looking forward to it."

So uh, I only have 3 published fics currently. And one is an ongoing rewrite of one of those. I’ve written so much in the last year but yet I have almost nothing to show for it, as most things I’ve started haven’t exactly been finished for whatever reason. Soooo guess I’ll include some of the unfinished stuff too, because who knows, maybe I’ll finish some of them one day.

99.9% of what I write is Emergency related, albeit. . . weird.

1) Save Me from the Dark

Scarlett Raven Black sat numbly in her dimly lit bedroom pondering her existence.

2) Any Other Day

John Gage laid shivering in a treatment room at the ER of Rampart General Hospital.

3) Save Me from the Dark (Rewrite)

Scarlett Black gazed wistfully out the window, taking in the relatively boring cityscape.

4) One Breath Apart (Tentative title)

Johnny was dead. Or at least he thought he was.

5) Untitled

"Have you noticed Gage has been extra weird today?" Chet asked aloud to the room of his coworkers as he reached for another balloon to blow up.

As consciousness slowly returned to him, unfortunately so did the pain.

There was a loud yell as once again Chet performed another prank on Johnny.

I also recently started a Grey’s Anatomy oneshot that I wanted to finish before S17xE8 because it’s based off a brief clip from the promo. But procrastination is one of my best talents so didn’t finish in time, then got unmotivated. Oops.

1) Where the Shadow Ends (Tentative title)

Sitting in the comfortable sand of the beach, Meredith stared out towards the crashing waves of the ocean in front of her.

Conclusions: First and foremost, I really have a thing for Johnny whump (and sometimes beyond just whump. . .). I also like starting my fics with “x character felt this way” or “x character did this thing”, and I almost never start fics with dialogue. I’ve tried to sorta change it up at points, but ultimately it’s just what I’m comfy with so maybe that’s fine.

Favorite: Just going by first lines, Untitled #6. Have I ever mentioned I love me some good whump? In terms of whooole fics, definitely the ongoing rewrite of Save Me from the Dark. Pretty much everyone knows by now, but the original fic was always intended to be more of a parody on common fandom tropes and mess with the very idea of the typical “Johnny falls in love with the perfect Mary-Sue OC and they live happily ever after” fics. The rewrite is a more serious take on that premise, adding more backstory, better(ish) pacing, and canon characters (hopefully) acting more true to their canon personalities. It’s still going to be weird, though.

Here's a bit of fluffy whump for your Saturday. This is for Day 16 prompt Does That Hurt?

J & R Forever

Roy gingerly pulled his shirt off as he was changing into his uniform. He heard a snort and stifled giggle coming from this partner's locker. Chet, however, wasn't so considerate. "I don't believe my eyes! Roy DeSoto with a tattoo!" Johnny caught Roy's eye, his own wicked ones dancing with mirth. "Yeah. Chet. What about it?" Roy challenged, swallowing back the simultaneous sour stomach and spine tingling exhilaration that his partner always caused. "You just don't seem the type is all." Chet said all wide eyed innocence. "Oh, and you are?" Roy grumbled, moving to pull on his undershirt. "Now wait Roy, let us admire the artwork. Is that a J and R forever I see?" Seeing that Roy was about to lose his temper, Johnny jumped in. "Chet, don't you think you better get ready before you're late for roll call? Or are you going for a station record?" "Geez Gage. I didn't know you cared." "I don’t." Johnny said as he shut his locker with a snap and followed Roy from the room. Later on their supply run to Rampart, Roy noticed out of the corner of his eye Johnny sneaking gleeful glances in his direction. "Okay Junior." Roy sighed. "Let's have it." Johnny burst out laughing. Which inevitably made Roy smile. "Roy, your face when Chet walked in! Yeah- that's the one!" Roy gave Johnny a long suffering look. "Does that hurt?" "Not really. It kind of feels like a bad sunburn." "Why?" "Well, when you were doing overtime at 10's, I met up with a few of the guys I knew from the army. We ah… had a few too many I suppose. The next thing I know we're piled into a tattoo shop. We all got one." "What was that anyway?" "Our unit crest." "Your unit crest has J and R forever on it?" Johnny asked, a glimmer in his eye. Roy blushed scarlet. He'd taken no end of grief for that little addendum. Johnny burst into laughter again. Roy couldn't see the humor. Because the thing is, for the life of him, he couldn't remember exactly who had been on his mind when he'd asked for the embellishment. The more he thought about it and his inebriated state, the more he was certain it was for Johnny, not Joanne. (Who was, incidentally, madder than hell about the tattoo.) The other thing is, Roy isn't entirely certain that the fact of the J being for Johnny really bothered him. And that bothered him. Because if Johnny didn't stop looking at him with that mixture of humor and wistfulness he was going to pull the squad over and explain it to Johnny. In tongues. Thank heavens the driveway to the station was a few hundred feet ahead.
