This is an aspect of this time-honored story that sometimes troubles me, and I know that different Biblical scholars as well as different lay people have very different views on it.

Note #1: Please don't reblog with answers that only relate to adaptations of the story. For example, "What he does is wrong, but his wife Asenath calls him out on it and urges him to forgive them." Not in the Bible she doesn't. No one calls him out in the original text.

Note #2: Christians are free to reblog and offer opinions – this is a Biblical subject after all – but please don't preach to me about Jesus. This story isn't about Jesus. It predates Jesus by many centuries. Besides, for the time being, I'm looking at it more from a character analysis perspective than a religious perspective.

Note #3: Please don't be antisemitic. The (arguable) moral grayness of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament heroes has nothing to do with either their Jewishness or the fact that they lived before Jesus.

Ronan being senselessly turned on by Adam on a motorcycle in Call Down The Hawk, eliminated for not technically being a car but still impressive

Jordan stealing Declan’s car and in doing so feeling closer to Hennessy while also closer to Declan.

Adam teaching Gansey about fixing cars.

The picture in Adam’s glove rendezvous has a the man (who looks like Greenmantle, which is to say like a combination of Ronan and Gansey, which is to say he looks like Declan but I digress) standing next to a German made car.

I could have sworn in addition to the Gansey comparing Adam to the Pig scene there was a scene where Ronan did as well but I looked up every time the word “Camaro” is mentioned in the Dream Thieves + The Raven King (only books with Ronan pov chapters) and did not find this so I wonder if I made it up, or saw someone else misremember and then adopted it in my memory. Someone enlighten me if not. There are certainly others but I either couldn’t remember them or couldn’t find text evidence to confirm they were real. Of course, you might say that some of these were likely more intentional from a doylist pov than others, however the text is the text and motifs are motifs. I am simply an academic presenting my findings to you all.

Also the Latin line is said twice once when the Camaro breaks down Ronan says it jokingly to Gansey in the scene where he also puts a leg over Adam’s, then Adam remembers it after a breakdown in TDT as applying to how he’s a “trainwreck” right before finding himself in Ronan’s dream. Feel the others are self explanatory enough but thought this one merited explanation if you haven’t reread recently.

the dream thieves was wild because i love how adam gets freshly broken up with, but rather than festering in those awful feelings, he vows to become better and jumps head into his magical abilities enough to help his (future boy-)friend fix cabeswater to save his brothers life, becoming the only 2 characters in that book's climax who do anything to further the plot. honestly, who's doing it like adam parrish?

The way she would have hit those substance parties like a goddamn meteor. The way Kavinsky would have pursued her in the same exact way he did w Ronan: dream gifts and initiating drag races, probably culminating in kidnapping Jordan

The way she would have fucked Orla and flirted shamelessly w Blue at Ninos and probably offended her just as badly as Gansey did

The way Adam and Gansey would have seethed w jealousy and mistrust over her and Ronan’s friendship, each of them feeding into the worst impulses of the other while Hennessy flatly refused to be pulled into Gansey’s storybook quest

sometimes im normal then sometimes i think about how many teenagers die in trc and how gut renching eacho f their deaths are and like bro. it really shows how muc hthey love eachother and even just how much they care and how pure they are even when one of them is literally Not Human and stuff. like ive never read another series of books that is so l.ike this. even with Kavinsky's death Ronan is like oh my god oh moy god he just killed himself wtf wtf and he literally shouts "Get down!!" to K before the dragon literally gets him. and like Noahs death even tho noone but welk (blueurhggh) whitnessed the inital death they are all like extremely rattled and greve him still. and likeGansey dying oml oml gannnseeyyy dying and everyones reactions oml. theyre so human it hurts so fucking bad. and also ronans suicide attempt (i have thoughts on this ill make another post) and how gansey had been so fucking focused on him afterwards like he cares so fucking much. declan cares so much about him too he was so worried about ronan and i genuinely think its beyond his love of matthew. even when welk gets trampled they arent like "YAAAY villian dead :)" theyre like oh my god thats a dead guy thats a fucking dead guy they are so human i love them so much so much so much
