the faint glow of the TV flickered across the dimly lit room, illuminating rin’s sharp features with every flashing jumpscare. the opening screen of outlast loomed ominously, the static-filled background humming through the speakers. the only other source of light came from the scattered candles you insisted on lighting, claiming it made the atmosphere “cooler,” though rin accused you of trying too hard.

the two of you sat on the floor, backs resting against the couch with a mountain of blankets draped over your legs. your arms were looped around rin’s torso, cheek smushed against his chest. the warmth of his body made you drowsy, but you fought off the urge to sleep. there were monsters to fight.

“we should’ve played phasmophobia,” you mumbled sleepily. “the ghosts are funny.”

“funny?” rin repeated flatly, flicking your forehead lightly. “the ghosts hunt you down and you think it’s funny.”

“well, you think the monster design in outlast is ‘cool.’ you’re the weird one here,” you teased, poking his side.

rin scoffed softly, but you could feel the corner of his mouth twitch upward. his fingers lazily rubbed circles along your lower back as he played, one hand comfortably holding the controller while the other was dedicated to absentmindedly keeping you close. it was a bit unfair, honestly. he was still making flawless plays with only one hand, while you, on the rare occasion he handed you the controller, would be fumbling like a newborn deer.

“oh, shit.” you jolted slightly as a mutilated creature lunged from the shadows, dragging rin’s character into the depths of a dim hallway. he barely flinched. unfazed. meanwhile, you gripped his hoodie like you were holding on for dear life.

“you scared?” he muttered, a teasing lilt in his otherwise calm voice.

“no,” you mumbled into his chest. your face was practically buried in the fabric, but you still snuck a peek at the screen. just a little scared.

rin chuckled softly – so soft, you barely caught it. he dipped his head slightly, resting his chin against your temple. “liar,” he muttered against your skin. his voice was so low and quiet, you nearly missed it over the sound of distant, distorted screams from the game.

despite the horrifying ambiance filling the room, you found yourself growing more and more relaxed, lulled by the steady rhythm of rin’s breathing and the warmth of his arms. you clung a little tighter when another sudden screech echoed from the TV.

“mmm, i think i should take over,” you hummed, already reaching for the controller in his hand.

he snorted. “you? you couldn’t even make it past the tutorial.”

“wow. you’re so mean to me,” you deadpanned, leaning back slightly to give him an offended glare.

his eyes shifted lazily toward you, half-lidded and relaxed, the blue-green of his irises glimmering faintly in the dim candlelight. he blinked slowly, looking completely unfazed by your feigned betrayal.

“go ahead,” he mumbled, smirking faintly as he handed over the controller. “let’s see how long you last.”

you took it with a triumphant grin… which immediately faltered as you got chased down by the first enemy you encountered. your terrified shriek echoed through the apartment as you blindly mashed the buttons. left trigger? right bumper? square?! what the hell was the run button?!

rin, who had been casually sipping his water, nearly choked from laughing. the rare sound of his genuine laughter filled the room – light, unrestrained, and so incredibly pretty. you would’ve called him out for it if you weren’t currently being brutally mauled to death by a monster.

“why didn’t you run?” he asked, voice still thick with amusement.

you pouted dramatically, dropping the controller and immediately turning around to face him. “because i don’t know the controls! you’re supposed to protect me!” you whined, crawling into his lap like you were seeking asylum.

he grunted lightly at the sudden shift of weight, but his hands instinctively settled on your waist. “protect you from what?” he scoffed, though he let you cling to him with zero complaints. “it’s not real.”

“yeah? well, you can’t prove that,” you grumbled, arms draped loosely around his neck.

he rolled his eyes, but you caught the way his fingers started drawing faint circles along your spine again, absentminded and lazy. you leaned in a little closer, nuzzling into the crook of his neck. he smelled faintly of his body wash – a mix of cedarwood and citrus, clean and fresh – and despite the ongoing chaos of the game, you were on the verge of dozing off.

“you’re falling asleep, aren’t you?” rin muttered against your hair.

“nooo,” you lied with zero conviction.

his hand pressed against the back of your head, keeping you nestled close. “then stay awake,” he mumbled, his voice dropping to a murmur. his lips were so close, you could feel them graze your temple as he spoke. “you wanted to play.”

“mmm. i like this game better.”

he hummed softly in response, a rare, nearly undetectable smile tugging at his lips. he pulled the blanket higher over the both of you, enveloping you in warmth. with one hand still on your back and the other expertly navigating the horror-filled corridors on screen, he let you doze in his arms, perfectly content with the weight of you pressed against him.

the monsters could wait.

Charlie Bushnell was seen with back scratches in Dior Goodjohn’s vlog a day after YN posted that she had gotten her nails done.

Sources say they saw YN with a man who looks a lot like Charlie at the beach. The same day both and YN and Charlie soft launched their significant other at the beach.

YN had posted that she got new white ribbons on her TikTok just a week before this photo was supposedly taken and she also mentioned her newly bought books on her now deleted instagram story. Also in the aforementioned TikTok a voice called out YN’s name in the background. It was a manly voice which sounded a lot like Charlie’s.

Those discrepancies are no small deal. The autopsy performed by Mexican authorities stated that Shanquella’s spine was broken, but the Mecklenburg County report states some very direct contradictions via WBTV:

No skull fractures are present

No evidence of injury to [the] upper airway section and no hemorrhage in the surrounding neck muscle or fracture/hemorrhage of the mid-to-lower cervical and upper thoracic vertebral column.

Removal and sectioning of the organs reveal no evidence of other trauma or disease process.

No fractures of the ribs or the remainder of the vertebral column.

Slight lateral scoliotic curvature is present in the upper-to-mid thoracic spine.

No evidence of hemorrhage or disruption of any of the musculature, ligaments, or spinal elements.

No fractures are seen on the posterior of the spinal column.

No evidence of any disruption of the spinal column alignment or subluxation.

["Commitment as Risk

Working-class young adults learn early on that commitment, rather than a hedge against external risks of the market, is simply one demand too many on top of the already excessive demands of the post-industrial labor force. Many remembers watching their families torn apart by the strain of unemployment, disability, illness, drug and alcohol abuse, and prison. Women in particular often spoke of learning relationship lessons from their mother's mistakes. Wanda, a twenty-four-year-old black woman, has watched her parents continually separate and get back together for the past decade. As she described them: "My dad is a con artist. He's like a…. you know what I'm saying? So my mom, she's real weak towards that and just seeing what kind of man he is, what kind of man all these people are, I just was never really looking for a relationship." Amber, who is in a relationship but choosing to delay marriage, mused, "I would say my mom is somebody who never had a chance to grow up and kind of got sling shot, like she started having kids when she was eighteen, didn't have any idea what she was doing. And kind of got sling shot into beng an adult." With their own families in the background as cautionary tales, fear of investing time and emotional energy into a relationship that could ultimately fall apart prevented many young people from pursuing romantic relationships.

Jillian, a twenty-five-year old white woman, felt regretful and somewhat embarrassed by the fact that she had never had a serious boyfriend. Intensely focused on saving money, paying the rent on her own apartment, and buying a car, JIllian has worked seventy hours a week at a local tavern since she graduated from high school, leaving her little time or energy to date. The only steadily employed member of her family, she has also helped keep her relatives afloat, paying the rent on her mother's ice cream shop in the winter when business was slow, sending money to her sister when the car broke down or the kids needed school clothes, and even paying her brother's college tuition on her credit card (he was supposed to pay her back but hasn't yet, a source of deep family strain).

Emotionally and financially drained, Jillian finds it "very scary to not have a future planned out yet" but is too afraid to lose what little stability she has to take out school loans or move to a city with more employment opportunities. This fear of taking risks extends to the realm of intimacy, where she dreads investing time and emotional energy in a relationship that may ultimately fail: "Because I feel like I'm in it for the long haul. I don't get like the one-night stands and stuff. You're either in it, or you're not." Having spent her life fighting to keep economic and social insecurity at bay, Jillian views the modern relationship ideal— in which partners much negotiate the meanings of commitment, love, and sex at every stage— as too risky (see also Beck and Beck-Gersheim 1995: Bellah et al. 1985; Giddens 1992). Reflecting on the meanings of adulthood, Jillian explained:

Jillian: I've really been focused on work and saving money, to be able to go out and get a car and get your own apartment or something. So that's where I've been. But now I'm like, yeah twenty-five and you know, I've never really wanted to get a boyfriend. Because I feel like I'm in it for the long haul. My friends are like, oh just have a boyfriend for a week, who cares. That's just not fun for me. If I'm in a relationship, I'm in a relationship. I can't do it half-ass or like sometimes. You're either in it or you're not. So maybe when I move. It's definitely lonely not having a boyfriend and would love to have a boyfriend, but if I want to move, I just don't see how I could make a relationship work. JS: Do you have ideas about the kind of guy you'd like to find? Jillian: Yeah. My friend really makes fun of me for that. She says, well if you're looking for that you need to go to church. Because I'm looking for a guy that, like, you know, I think sex comes in a relationship once it's solidified and means something and it's long term. So I need a guy that's going to be patient and wait, and that's extremely difficult to find in a mid-twenties guy. You know, that's willing to make the relationship work before sex, so that's difficult. I want a guy that's romantic and in it for the same reasons I am. You know, wants to make it work and long lasting. You really don't find a guy in their twenties that's looking for, like, a deep meaningful relationship.

Like the vast majority of respondents, Jillian watches anxiously as conventional milestones of adulthood pass her by, keenly aware she has veered sharply off the taken for granted path to adulthood: "It is very scary to not have a future planned out yet. And being twenty-five, it's like okay, in a few years I want to start a family. You know, I don't want to be a first-time mom at forty. You want to be a young mom. So starting a family around thirty or so, it's like I have five years to get my shit together. So yeah, that's definitely not going to happen."]

you miraculously reached the jeon household in one piece

of course, that feat isn’t without you making sure you didn’t fracture anything

and also you making sure that there isn’t any evidence on you

bc or else the princes and your fourth cousin would bombard you with questions once you arrive

surprisingly, though, despite the mishap, you are still the first one to set foot on the jeon household

so you told one of the handmaidens there to just come and find you when the lees have arrived

most of the time, when you happen to be the earliest, you seek out prince jungkook or his betrothed

just to bother them, really

but sometimes, you opt to just let time pass by taking a nap at the jeons’ botanical garden

you don’t lie down on the flowers, ofc

(you were taught better than that, js)

rather, you climb a tree and sleep on one of the branches

(just to clarify: it’s one of those trees with a large base and thick branches, like an oak tree or smth)

(the point is, it can support your weight just fine)

not sure if that’s comfortable, but you do it most of the time anw

esp if you’re not that tired to climb one

which was today’s case

tmi but one time you were so tired that you couldn’t climb up a tree and just passed out in the gazebo

since everyone knew your favorite napping spot is up your favorite tree, they assumed they would find you there that time too

but then you weren’t, so they actually had to make an effort to be able to locate you

in the end, they found you thirty-five-ish mins later because you?? somehow?? found?? the most secluded?? part of the?? gazebo??

so yea

you slept

and forgot about wtv mishap happened to you today

unbeknownst to you, the princes started gathering little by little while you slept

“where’s [first name]?”

the princes that cared about you the most (read: crown prince joongi and fifth prince seunghoon) arrived last, so they barely started caring about your whereabouts then

“the head maid said they headed to the garden when they arrived,” tenth prince seonwoo informs his eldest brother

“[nickname] must be sleeping then,” prince seunghoon concludes

“who’s [first name]? [nickname]?” a voice asks, prompting everyone present to look at its source

“ah, wonwoo, you’re here,” crown prince recognizes his brother’s presence, “finally after seven years”

“yea,” fourth prince taejoon chimes in, “seven years too long”

“not my fault,” the sixth prince shrugs

“ya! listen to this punk,” third prince exclaims, “he sounds like he didn’t even miss his brothers”

“the border has kept me too occupied,” prince wonwoo defends himself almost nonchalantly, with no remorse in his voice whatsoever

his brothers takes immediately notice of how he didn’t even confirm nor deny prince inyeop’s accusation

but no one bothers to point it out

after all, even if seven years had already passed, their brother still seems to remain the same

the sixth prince — who inherited their father’s cold, fox-like eyes — also conceals any warm emotion he feels to appear more like ice

truthfully, all the princes have that kind of cold intimidation around them

perhaps save for the fifth and seventh prince

and maybe the tenth, too

but the sixth born arguably has one of the strongest

something that only the first born can rival

given that they both got their strengthened aura after years in the battlefield

lowk it’s debatable who has the real strongest cold aura tho, ngl

the first prince had spent more than a decade in total in the battlefield, so he’s def more experienced than the sixth prince

however, according to rumors, prince joongi has gotten “softer” ever since he got married

and no one is really brave enough to confirm it, so

anyway

however

no fight nor battle has managed to take away their affections for their brothers

even if they refuse to admit it

and they both know their brothers well enough to know that they know that they care for them

so, yeah

there’s no really need for the sixth prince to admit it out loud

so the literal translation for his reply to prince inyeop is: “i did miss you guys”

or at least that’s how his brothers heard it

“we missed you, too, hyung-nim,” seventh prince replies on behalf of the rest

“yea,” prince seunghoon adds on, “that’s why you should go fetch [first name] at the garden”

(trust the fifth prince to pass the thing that prolly would’ve been ordered to him otherwise lmao)

prince wonwoo is about to argue, mostly about not knowing who even that is, but he’s easily overpowered by his six brothers

that’s right

he might be a well-decorated warrior, but his skills are subpar when it comes to winning against his brothers

he can’t be good at everything, man

“[first name] should be on one of the trees!” they called after his retreating figure, “if not, look in the gazebo!”

the sixth prince thought it would be more practical to look for [first name] at the gazebo first since it was closer

but he finds no one there, so he figures the person he is looking for is really by the trees

so off he goes

in all honesty, prince wonwoo has no idea who he is supposed to be looking for

but he figures he’d spot that person easily

after all, who else would sleep at the garden??

and sure enough, it didn’t take him that long to spot someone on top of a tree

looking like they’re in an uncomfortable position, but sleeping peacefully nonetheless

frankly, the sixth prince isn’t the one to judge others quickly

especially given that others do that to him too often for his liking

which eventually landed him an unpleasant nickname in the streets

but that’s a story for another time

but it’d be a lie to say that he isn’t literally judging the person on the tree rn

justifiably so, though, bc

who?? in their right mind?? prefers to sleep on top of a tree?? instead of somewhere more comfortable?? and safer??

like, who knows, a guest room?? or even just inside the gazebo?? on the grass??

the jeon household is wide enough to house dozens — if not hundreds — of guests, there’s absolutely no way every single room is already preoccupied atm

esp with his temporary stay, which might’ve prompted some to steer clear from the household

sure, the gazebo might be a hard, concrete surface . . . but at least there are pillows in there??

plus there’s shade there as well . . . so why wasn’t that the main choice for naps?

and as for the grass . . . they can move wherever which way they want?? bc there’s no danger of falling?? and the grass should definitely be softer for the back than the branch is??

sigh, wtv

the person’s peculiar napping spot shouldn’t be his main concern rn

esp since he has no idea how to wake them up without activating the threat of falling

prince wonwoo’s chosen first course of action is to call their name — or at least, the name his brothers addressed the person as

“[first name]? [first name]?”

he unconsciously holds his breath when the person in question stirs in their sleep, suddenly more alert just in case they fall

much to his relief and slight amusement, [first name] doesn’t wake up and fall

so he tries again, this time with a louder voice

when that doesn’t seem to work either, he increased his voice volume again

as in closer to the volume that he commands his troops with

he won’t be surprised if his brothers heard it from where they are tbh

and yet

still nothing

[first name] literally just shifted their position to face away from him

and continued their journey in dreamland

prince wonwoo could’ve sworn he heard his voice echo so it was definitely loud

so how the fck did this person sleep through it??

in that person’s defense, they’re having an intriguing dream

esp since that person happened to be you

aka someone who just got treated like a sack of potatoes earlier by a masked rider

but the prince doesn’t know that

and does he need to?

to him, you’re literally just the person his brothers want him to retrieve

and to you, he is the voice of the man in your dreams

like an unseen narrator whose only lines are your name

either way, it’s unsettling to hear any voice in your dream

especially since it’s a dream you’ve had for a million times already

you basically already know what is supposed to happen, frame by frame

and that voice is definitely new

in your defense, it’s rlly coming off as someone omnipresent

yes, the voice is strangely matching the timing of the man in your dreams

but the shape of his mouth is definitely not matching the words you’re hearing

so, obviously, that voice can only be God

sure, you might not entirely believe in anything religious but honestly, as someone who somehow managed to travel back in time, you’re willing to think of anything

even if you don’t necessarily believe in it

and as much as you’re glad you didn’t feel any pain, you’re highly suspicious why you didn’t

so you opened your eyes

just to see something oddly familiar obstructing your view

your eyes shoots up in panic, as you mentally chant

“pleasedon’tbewhoithinkyouare” “pleasedon’tbewhoithinkyouare” “pleasedon’tbewhoithinkyouare” “pleasedon’t—”

unfortunately, no matter how many times you repeated it nor how fast you said it, you didn’t seem to be heard

which is a matter you quickly realized after making eye contact with a familiar masked man

aka the same masked rider that dropped you from a moving horse

aka the person you desperately wished he wasn’t

oh, what luck

the universe really likes you, it seems

please note the sarcasm

“you!” your voice holds so much disdain

“you again,” contrary to your disdain, his voice sounds exhausted, like he can’t believe he’s dealing with you again

excuse him, but you can’t believe you’re dealing with him again, either

if anything, between the two of you, you’re certainly the one who’s against your paths crossing again the most

and, really, no one can even blame you, if ever

esp considering that he did just drop you on the ground unceremoniously

“why are you here!” you can’t even bring yourself to make your exclamation sound like a question, “put me down!”

clearly, you haven’t learned your lesson the first time

and clearly, this masked man is a little too great at following commands

“why am i here?” you hear him scoff while you try not cuss him out for dropping you. again. “shouldn’t i be the one asking you that?”

“i asked you first”

“why do i need a reason to be in my household?”

at that point, you have successfully used the tree trunk to help yourself stand, but you almost lost your footing the second he said that

thankfully, you’re able to regain it before you looked like a fool in front of him

you aren’t rlly sure if you actually wanted him to repeat what he just said, ngl

mostly bc you aren’t sure if you want him to confirm his identity

but oh well

too late now

“this is my household,” he repeats,

“i am prince wonwoo of the jeons, sixth prince of the kingdom, fifth-in-line to the throne”

meeting the prince who completed the ensemble of the king’s alive sons didn’t change anything in your life

at least that’s what you hoped to say

unfortunately, it isn’t necessarily the case

for one, you gained an “enemy” in the sixth prince

technically, you kind of treat the sixth and the third prince similarly

except your banters with the sixth prince aren’t exactly playful

on hindsight, it’ll be better to assume that you get along far better with the third prince

since, at least, you just tease each other to make your days more interesting

there’s only so much you can do for entertainment in this era yk

however, for the younger prince, there’s a feeling of . . . antagonism, almost

it’s definitely one-sided since you’re most likely the only one who feels that way

since prince wonwoo doesn’t seem to care

but wtv

you can’t just forget he dropped you off a horse

and then proceeded to drop you again that same day when you met for the second time

he hasn’t even apologized for either one, btw

when you tried to confront him about it one time and basically told him to tell you sorry

he just rose one of his eyebrows, scoffed, and then said: “you’re the one who told me to put you down. why should i apologize for doing what you told me to do?”

. . .

you hate how he had a valid point there

but you won’t admit that to his face

so you just hmph’ed away then and gave up on getting an apology from him from then on

in retaliation, though,

since you can’t have him feeling like he won wtv rivalry this is that you have going on

that he doesn’t seem to be aware of

you decided to never be nice to him

that seems like a reasonable course of action for you, esp given that the sixth prince doesn’t seem bothered by your attitude towards him

even if he’s the only one you don’t seem to like, out of his brothers

so yea

everything seems justified

a little while ago @neuro-typical sent me this post by @bye2k of a popup that appeared when trying to right-click images on a shadow the hedgehog fan forum, known as Wishes are Eternal (after the SA2 line). this version of the site appears to be an archived snapshot on the wayback machine, and I'm happy to confirm that it is indeed real. though i couldn't get the popup to work in my own browser, the javascript does exist in the source code of the site, so it's very real and very cool.

i had a lot of things to say about this, but i didn't want to blast the notes of the OG post into oblivion with my big funny wall of text, so I've made my own post. below the readmore I'll explain javascript popups on the internet, some malware that has utilized this, and some very interesting sonic fan community history.

first of all: what is this? how did the webmaster manage to create a popup window in your computer to stop you from downloading images?

well, that would be javascript. because JS is just a normal script language that can do whatever you want, creating a popup is no exception. now, whoever ran the site did not write this script themself, this much is evident by the credit you can see in the source code for the site.

this script is offered by a site called dynamicdrive.com, specifically for disabling right-clicks. you see how simple this is? javascript makes it possible to bother users in all sorts of creative ways. plenty of malware on the web utilizes javascript, and you're probably already aware of most good examples.

you're most likely familiar with offiz, better known by the colloquial name "You Are An Idiot". though its status as malware is somewhat debated, most people can agree that the sites it was on abused a javascript function that allowed it to create hundreds upon hundreds of bouncing windows, slowing the user computer to a crawl and forcing the user to restart their machine, meaning any unsaved work they had open was now lost. in that way it was destructive, though indirectly.

offiz is an example of javascript malware that is harmless on its own, but not all JS malware is that friendly. javascript can be used to force your machine to download software, steal user data, serve you all manner of popups, employ many kinds of malicious code through xss, and more. although these cases are rarer than they were, say, a decade ago, that doesn't mean they don't still happen. here is a fascinating little instance of javascript being used maliciously very recently. it's hard to suggest ways to avoid these without just telling you to use common sense, but there's no other way to put it. as is the case with all malware, your best bet when it comes to not getting it is thinking before you click.

browser malware is extremely common. you may have encountered it going to a suspicious website. there is certainly a necessary aspect of social engineering to this type of malware, you have to be paying less attention to where you're going and what you're doing to stumble upon a site so unsecured that it could infect you. users who get themselves into these situations are typically looking for either p_rn or pirated stuff, so they're more likely to act in irrational or desperate ways to get to their content. don't be a fool online and you won't get played for one.

so, why? why does this old, obscure sonic fan forum have javascript that prevents you from right clicking images? prevents you from downloading images?

this forum is very, very old. the last posts on the entire site were about 10 years ago, even to this day. it's no surprise to me that a lot of this site is a relic of its time. the photobucket watermark on the header image, the collecton of midis of shadow themes playable on the site, the use of the term "ripped off" (as opposed to ripped) to describe the action of taking sprites from a game. it's all there on the very first page, the only one in this archive. despite what youtube video slideshows with a single text scroll that says "no copyright intended, pictures found on google" may imply, reposting images was indeed taken seriously at this time. this was a time when it wasn't too uncommon to see a credit to the person who made an anime girl image transparent (a render, for those unaware) in a forum signature. this was a time when someone got caught tracing every 5 days.

that's not to say there were no issues, but people were still very defensive over what they deemed to be theirs. this was especially prevalent in fanart. fan works are hard and are always a labor of love, so it's no surprise nobody wanted their work reposted, especially not without credit. this was especially clear when looking into some parts of the sprite ripping community. making spritesheets was much harder then than it is now, and it was especially impressive if sprites were hand-edited or even made from scratch. this incredibly painstaking work combined with sonic fans reputation for... unwavering passion... could often culminate in a very serious attitude towards doing something as simple as saving an image. in fact, for some people, this mindset has never truly left.

in 2014, fangame creator Leemena Dan published Sonic Gather Battle on SAGE (the Sonic Amateur Games Expo) to mostly positive reception but ultimately little attention outside of sonic fans online. that is, until 2017, when after a seemingly inconspicuous update, players discovered what appeared to be an audaciously malicious form of DRM present in the game.

this malware had everything. all the bells and whistles. when a player would do any number of things from opening software made to decompile games to simply typing "sonic gather battle cheat" into their internet browser search bar, the payload would activate. (which, of course, means it tracks your keystrokes!)

it's difficult to find good footage of both layers of this DRM (or, rather, both payloads of this malware) that doesn't include a facecam of some gamer dude gawking and screaming at his computer screen. even so, I've found two decent ones. layer 1, and layer 2. this DRM also sends your IP address to a privately owned server, presumably so that the DRM would activate even when the game is uninstalled, and when trying to play it, a splash screen would show telling you to abide by the rules.

unsurprisingly, people did not consider this a proportionate way to respond to the threat of people ripping the sprites from a fangame, and the creator has since been banned from SAGE. to this very day, some people are simply so protective of their work that they'd be willing to go to any length to prevent you from saving it. as obnoxious as that can sometimes seem, it does make for some very interesting history.

hi its newbie! as my name suggests im a legit newbie to chanlix and the group and i started watching kingdom last night up til ep 6 because i got sleepy lol but js there something im missing? what gives you the impression that chanlix were already dating during kingdom because i havent seen much to give that away (although i think they are an exclusive couple) i think i’m struggling to piece together a loose timeline because they can be so hot and cold on camera (which really only further proves their more than friendship). is there something specific that happened or was said that makes it seem that they were involved? also do you believe that one rumor that chanlix were caught during kingdom filming by someone being intimate? thanks as always! im still learning

Kingdom is hard enough to get clips because I don't know how much they cut out from the original broadcast to put on YouTube. I mostly deduced from the pieces we were given in the YouTube clips that they very much solidified their relationship.

So their dating ban lifted in late March 2021 while still filming Kingdom, so right off the bat I know they'll be together anyway but I did not expect them to be physically separate on-camera for most of the duration of Kingdom. You haven't seen how the rest of 2020 plays out yet like I have while working my videos, but Chanlix was inseparable that year even on-camera so this sudden shift to being distant means that they're scared of being found out by third-party MNET staff with portions of the broadcast being LIVE.

I'm still very far away from reaching that point in making the videos, but I have enough point of references in Chan's Rooms where he watches the Kingdom performances.... and he just absolutely lights up when Felix is on-screen. These will be separate analysis videos in the future.

During the athlete games, when every single performer had to vote and choose who they picked as the best visual out of any group, Chan was the only one from SKZ to vote for Felix. Everyone else voted for other groups or themselves lol.

After getting 2nd overall as a Visual King, Chan helps crown Felix in a very domestic way. When 1st Place Overall Visual Minhyuk from BTOB reveals he voted for Felix and vice versa, Chan looks 😤 for a half second.

When everyone was doing a relay race, during Chan's leg of the run, Felix ran within the grass and followed him all the way through to the finish line like a good boyfriend who roots for you would do. So Felix would've been one the closest members to hug Chan at that point, but for some reason, all the members had ran up to Chan and hugged him before Felix could. And when Felix finally got to Chan and initiated a half-hug, they both look hesitant as if they were scared of hugging too much or too long.

In the Wolfgang Behind-the-Scenes, there's a blink-and-you-miss moment where there is a hand caressing the back of Felix's hand. It definitely did not look like a stylist because Felix was sitting on the couch and that hand belonged to someone sitting next to him at that same couch height level.

And the most interesting thing in that same video is that when SKZ comes back after winning Kingdom, they open the doors and are greeted by their clapping and congratulatory staff. BUT Chanlix are not present. There's a cut indicating a good passage of time had passed when Chanlix finally arrives and greets everyone. There were no cameras from MNET or Stray Kids staff following the members when they went from the end credits stage back to the dressing rooms. So I am deducing that Chanlix took the time and opportunity to celebrate privately.

There's one other critical moment, but I can't find the source clip just yet to remember how to describe it.

My analysis for Kingdom won't be for a long while, but I hope that helps for now! Thanks for the Ask!

Fandom Userscript Cookbook: Five Projects to Get Your Feet Wet

Target audience: This post is dedicated, with love, to all novice, aspiring, occasional, or thwarted coders in fandom. If you did a code bootcamp once and don’t know where to start applying your new skillz, this is for you. If you're pretty good with HTML and CSS but the W3Schools Javascript tutorials have you feeling out of your depth, this is for you. If you can do neat things in Python but don’t know a good entry point for web programming, this is for you. Seasoned programmers looking for small, fun, low-investment hobby projects with useful end results are also welcome to raid this post for ideas.

You will need:

The Tampermonkey browser extension to run and edit userscripts

A handful of example userscripts from greasyfork.org. Just pick a few that look nifty and install them. AO3 Savior is a solid starting point for fandom tinkering.

Your browser dev tools. Hit F12 or right click > Inspect Element to find the stuff on the page you want to tweak and experiment with it. Move over to the Console tab once you’ve got code to test out and debug.

Javascript references and tutorials. W3Schools has loads of both. Mozilla’s JS documentation is top-notch, and I often just keep their reference lists of built-in String and Array functions open in tabs as I code. StackOverflow is useful for questions, but don’t assume the code snippets you find there are always reliable or copypastable.

That’s it. No development environment. No installing node.js or Ruby or Java or two different versions of Python. No build tools, no dependency management, no fucking Docker containers. No command line, even. Just a browser extension, the browser’s built-in dev tools, and reference material. Let’s go.

You might also want:

jQuery and its documentation. If you’re wrestling with a mess of generic spans and divs and sparse, unhelpful use of classes, jQuery selectors are your best bet for finding the element you want before you snap and go on a murderous rampage. jQuery also happens to be the most ubiquitous JS library out there, the essential Swiss army knife for working with Javascript’s... quirks, so experience with it is useful. It gets a bad rap because trying to build a whole house with a Swiss army knife is a fool’s errand, but it’s excellent for the stuff we're about to do.

Git or other source control, if you’ve already got it set up. By all means share your work on Github. Greasy Fork can publish a userscript from a Github repo. It can also publish a userscript from an uploaded text file or some code you pasted into the upload form, so don’t stress about it if you’re using a more informal process.

A text editor. Yes, seriously, this is optional. It’s a question of whether you’d rather code everything right there in Tampermonkey’s live editor, or keep a separate copy to paste into Tampermonkey’s live editor for testing. Are you feeling lucky, punk?

Project #1: Hack on an existing userscript

Install some nifty-looking scripts for websites you visit regularly. Use them. Ponder small additions that would make them even niftier. Take a look at their code in the Tampermonkey editor. (Dashboard > click on the script name.) Try to figure out what each bit is doing.

Then change something, hit save, and refresh the page.

Break it. Make it select the wrong element on the page to modify. Make it blow up with a huge pile of console errors. Add a console.log("I’m a teapot"); in the middle of a loop so it prints fifty times. Savor your power to make the background wizardry of the internet do incredibly dumb shit.

Then try a small improvement. It will probably break again. That's why you've got the live editor and the console, baby--poke it, prod it, and make it log everything it's doing until you've made it work.

Suggested bells and whistles to make the already-excellent AO3 Savior script even fancier:

Enable wildcards on a field that currently requires an exact match. Surely there’s at least one song lyric or Richard Siken quote you never want to see in any part of a fic title ever again, right?

Add some text to the placeholder message. Give it a pretty background color. Change the amount of space it takes up on the page.

Blacklist any work with more than 10 fandoms listed. Then add a line to the AO3 Savior Config script to make the number customizable.

Add a global blacklist of terms that will get a work hidden no matter what field they're in.

Add a list of blacklisted tag combinations. Like "I'm okay with some coffee shop AUs, but the ones that are also tagged as fluff don't interest me, please hide them." Or "Character A/Character B is cute but I don't want to read PWP about them."

Anything else you think of!

Project #2: Good Artists Borrow, Great Artists Fork (DIY blacklisting)

Looking at existing scripts as a model for the boilerplate you'll need, create a script that runs on a site you use regularly that doesn't already have a blacklisting/filtering feature. If you can't think of one, Dreamwidth comments make a good guinea pig. (There's a blacklist script for them out there, but reinventing wheels for fun is how you learn, right? ...right?) Create a simple blacklisting script of your own for that site.

Start small for the site-specific HTML wrangling. Take an array of blacklisted keywords and log any chunk of post/comment text that contains one of them.

Then try to make the post/comment it belongs to disappear.

Then add a placeholder.

Then get fancy with whitelists and matching metadata like usernames/titles/tags as well.

Crib from existing blacklist scripts like AO3 Savior as shamelessly as you feel the need to. If you publish the resulting userscript for others to install (which you should, if it fills an unmet need!), please comment up any substantial chunks of copypasted or closely-reproduced code with credit/a link to the original. If your script basically is the original with some key changes, like our extra-fancy AO3 Savior above, see if there’s a public Git repo you can fork.

Project #3: Make the dread Tumblr beast do a thing

Create a small script that runs on the Tumblr dashboard. Make it find all the posts on the page and log their IDs. Then log whether they're originals or reblogs. Then add a fancy border to the originals. Then add a different fancy border to your own posts. All of this data should be right there in the post HTML, so no need to derive it by looking for "x reblogged y" or source links or whatever--just make liberal use of Inspect Element and the post's data- attributes.

Extra credit: Explore the wildly variable messes that Tumblr's API spews out, and try to recreate XKit's timestamps feature with jQuery AJAX calls. (Post timestamps are one of the few reliable API data points.) Get a zillion bright ideas about what else you could do with the API data. Go through more actual post data to catalogue all the inconsistencies you’d have to catch. Cry as Tumblr kills the dream you dreamed.

Project #4: Make the dread Tumblr beast FIX a thing

Create a script that runs on individual Tumblr blogs (subdomains of tumblr.com). Browse some blogs with various themes until you've found a post with the upside-down reblog-chain bug and a post with reblogs displaying normally. Note the HTML differences between them. Make the script detect and highlight upside-down stacks of blockquotes. Then see if you can make it extract the blockquotes and reassemble them in the correct order. At this point you may be mobbed by friends and acquaintainces who want a fix for this fucking bug, which you can take as an opportunity to bury any lingering doubts about the usefulness of your scripting adventures.

(Note: Upside-down reblogs are the bug du jour as of September 2019. If you stumble upon this post later, please substitute whatever the latest Tumblr fuckery is that you'd like to fix.)

Project #5: Regular expressions are a hard limit

I mentioned up above that Dreamwidth comments are good guinea pigs for user scripting? You know what that means. Kinkmemes. Anon memes too, but kinkmemes (appropriately enough) offer so many opportunities for coding masochism. So here's a little exercise in sadism on my part, for anyone who wants to have fun (or "fun") with regular expressions:

Write a userscript that highlights all the prompts on any given page of a kinkmeme that have been filled.

Specifically, scan all the comment subject lines on the page for anything that looks like the title of a kinkmeme fill, and if you find one, highlight the prompt at the top of its thread. The nice ones will start with "FILL:" or end with "part 1/?" or "3/3 COMPLETE." The less nice ones will be more like "(former) minifill [37a / 50(?)] still haven't thought of a name for this thing" or "title that's just the subject line of the original prompt, Chapter 3." Your job is to catch as many of the weird ones as you can using regular expressions, while keeping false positives to a minimum.

Test it out on a real live kinkmeme, especially one without strict subject-line-formatting policies. I guarantee you, you will be delighted at some of the arcane shit your script manages to catch. And probably astonished at some of the arcane shit you never thought to look for because who the hell would even format a kinkmeme fill like that? Truly, freeform user input is a wonderful and terrible thing.

If that's not enough masochism for you, you could always try to make the script work on LiveJournal kinkmemes too!

I got Grover to write some fake news for Yudkowsky's "get an AI to write fake news about why we shouldn't worry about AI" project. Then he posted a screenshot of the Pastebin of the output, so I put together these, because a) screenshots of Pastebin are ugly and b) making things like this is fun.

The text in these images is also in the Pastebin, except for stuff like Cade Metz's bio and the image credit.

The NYTimes is making it remarkably annoying to edit text in the Document Object Model so you can screenshot fake articles with the NYTimes appearance -- I had to fuss with my JS blocker in ways that didn't make much sense to me to pull this off. (With all the JS enabled, it changes the elements back as soon as you edit them.)

I even found an appropriate stock photo for the article, from a stock photo source, by stealing an image from an actual article about an angry raccoon. For the "related" section, I just kept the images and dates from the genuine article with the titles that Grover generated, despite the fact that a robot moving blocks doesn't really match the headline "How a ‘Missile Defense’ project has become a human-killing A.I. drone".
