Arcane Characters + Universal Studios Headcanons
Hi!! I wanna be more active on here and since I've hit a bit of an artblock I've decided I'll do my second favorite thing which is headcanons!
As a Floridian, I decided to start with a topic I am quite familiar with which is of course, Universal Studios. In this imaginary situation they have the 2 parks 1 day ticket bc that's the one I usually use.
Also this would be a modern setting for obvious reasons.
------------------------------
Tumblr media
Jinx would 100% ride as many rollercoasters as she can. She rarely gets motion sickness.
If the lines weren't too long she would ride them multiple times all day long.
If they were, Cait and Vi would get sick of seeing her suffer through the long ass lines so they would just buy her an express ticket.
Ekko usually rides with her but he can only take so much.
When she was a little older, Mylo tricked her into riding Jurassic Park (85 ft drop). He thought it'd just be a mean prank, little did he know he created a tiny adrenaline-seeking monster.
She would also violently compete against Caitlyn in Men in Black.
Favorite Universal Rides : Rip Ride Rocket, VelociCoaster, The Hulk, and Men in Black
Favorite Park: Islands of Adventure
Tumblr media
I get the feeling Vi would be a foodie. And I can't blame her, theme park food is a lot of fun to explore. (I spent a good chunk of 2018 binge-watching DFBguide)
She would always try to go to a new restaurant every trip, and you will most likely find her chomping on a turkey leg.
When it comes to rides though, she also likes her fair share of rollercoasters. Though, she tries to ride them in the morning off the bat so she could eat in peace without feeling sick later.
I do think she'd like the 3D rides a lot too! I can definitely see her liking Transformers and Spider-Man.
Favorite Universal Rides : Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Rip Ride Rocket, Revenge of the Mummy
Favorite Park: Universal Studios
Tumblr media
Caitlyn likes the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I know this is a bit on the nose because her VA was literally in Harry Potter, but it's a good combo between atmosphere, thrill, shopping, and treats.
I don't think Caitlyn is too into rollercoasters. I think she'd be more into rides with movement and a few drops rather than full on coasters.
The HP rides are mostly pretty tame in comparison to the rest of the coasters in the parks, so I can see her liking those the most. Gringotts and Forbidden Journey in particular.
I think she'd definitely be the most into shopping, her favorite park would probably be Studios due to this.
She likes going to Honeydukes with Vi, they like trying all the different sweets and treats together.
Lets Jinx win in Men in Black because she knows if she beats her Jinx will be annoyed at her for the rest of the day. If she's not going against Jinx though, she would absolutely annihilate you.
Favorite Universal Rides : Gringotts, Forbidden Journey, Men in Black
Favorite Park: Universal Studios
Tumblr media
This poor man has a horribly weak stomach.
Jayce is NOT a rollercoaster fan. He is strictly 3D and dark rides only, with very few exceptions.
Hell I think the Gringotts drop might be too much for him. Not the first cart, but the second cart for sure makes him feel uneasy. (I am projecting, sitting in the second cart was not fun for me LMAO)
I think he and Viktor would have a blast looking into the behind the scenes part of theme parks, especially the engineering element.
If they're in Universal Studios Hollywood they would absolutely do the Studio Tour.
With the level of charisma he has, I can see him LOVING meet and greets. He really loves playing along with the characters. By the end of the day he'll have his little autograph notebook full of characters.
Favorite Universal Rides : The Simpsons Ride, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, Transformers
Favorite Park: Universal Studios
Tumblr media
Viktor doesn't really mind rollercoasters. He wouldn't die on them like Jayce, but he doesn't actively seek to ride them. Maybe if the line was short and the group wanted to ride it, sure.
Actually speaking of lines, he would get an accessibility pass so he wouldn't have to stand for extended periods of time. He would also make sure to sit down and take breaks as to not strain his leg too much.
Breaks could also mean going to watch the many shows Universal provides, like the Horror Makeup Show or The Bourne Stuntacular.
Back to rides though, he likes, no, LOVES Transformers. It's fast, the queue is very scientific-esc, and honestly.. transformers just give me machine herald vibes.
He is very awkward when it comes to meet and greets, so he's usually just taking the picture for Jayce. However, the only meet and greet he really truly looks forward to is the Transformers. He is extremely fascinated with the way Universal was able to create such an immersive and realistic looking replica of them.
I think him and Jayce would be intrigued by the interactive wands in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. They think it's fun that they found a way to create the illusion of magic by using sensors in the wands.
I think he'd like Forbidden Journey bc the ride makes you feel like you're flying, and he seemed to be having a blast in Ep 3 haha
Favorite Universal Rides : Transformers, Forbidden Journey, Skull Island: Reign of Kong (literally only to see that insanely realistic looking animatronic)
Favorite Park: Universal Studios
------------------------------
My god that took longer than I thought it would. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed! I adore theme parks so this was a lot of fun to do.
Also as a bonus, I have a little paper Viktor cut out that I take basically everywhere, including Universal! Here's him in front of the Universal ball haha

“Do you want to come over?” I abruptly asked, the silence pouring through the line deafening my ears as my fingers toyed with the hem of my shirt. The desperation and moment that led to me ringing my ex-boyfriend at what was nearing eight in the evening seemed as though it was a fever dream, the words rolling off my tongue so delicately out of apprehension only a fragment of that trance. In all honesty, I had no idea as to why I rang Damon, or to what extent the string of thoughts guided me towards the action of calling - we had been broken up for around a year, and it came as a much larger shock that I was able to muster the amount of courage to tap his contact on my phone and attentively listen to the thunderous rings as the landlines attempted to connect, instead of quickly shutting the phone off before he was able to receive a missed call alert.
“Uh, um - are you sure?” he questioned, the stutter escaping his mouth insinuated that he was just as dazed at my sudden offer as me, the demeanour of his voice accentuating the idea that he was entirely finished with the ephemeral chapter of his life which had me intertwined inside as his partner; that he had gotten over me quicker than the momentary period our relationship lasted. My heart sank, realising how indigent I sounded, as if I had never gotten over him throughout our time apart - which I did, learning to live with myself was easier than I had thought it was going to be; the weeks leading up to the breakup stemming from the distance we shared apart due to Damon consistently being on tour and never providing enough time for me, for us, to consider one another as more than romantically acquainted, though that didn’t mean the gap in my heart had been sealed shut, it was simply brimmed with other, unspecial fragments of things which could only distract the thought of him for so long, until I’d discover myself adventuring for something else to hyperfixate my thoughts upon, though he always returned.
“Yeah…” My voice trailed off, so quiet that I struggled to sustain the volume. Though we had only just spoken, the trance that he had obtained over me for all those months we were with one accord, returned in an instant, having the same rush that a recollection of memories, pastimes that were once forgotten, crumbled to dust, had been reborn; ignited into a new bloom in the height of a harvest, resulting in the scolding of yourself upon how you granted the ability to forget such a thing. It seemed as if all those thoughts, ideations convinced to the point that I had gotten over him, were myriads of masks attempting to say it enough to believe it. Without a doubt, I had never overcome the strains of the acquaintance we shared - and I could only hope he felt the same way.
I heard his throat clear itself before his voice echoed through the telephone speakers once again. “Alright… I’ll be there in a bit.” he mumbled, those words bringing a soft, yet apprehensive grin to my lips. I had no idea what I was doing, or why, but it felt right.
It felt as if only the sum of a few minutes passed when I heard a distinguishable knock on the door; one that had not rang through my ears for an interminable amount of time, one that was able to send me months back in time to a period where he had significantly been a figurehead dictating the story. As I jolted up to answer the door, it felt as if things were normal again, back to how they used to be so many nights previous; me waiting for him to come home after he spent a long day at the recording studio, crafting what could only be assumed was the pure essence of talent, unlocking the door to allow my arms to envelop into an embrace cherished with affection and warmth, proving he longed to have my presence just as much as I craved his. Once my eyes met the sight of him, my heart dropped at the overwhelming feeling of my reminiscing about what once was, the nostalgia for a moment so authentically shaped with what could only be described as true love, my body yearning to relish in the sensation of his arms protectively wrapped around my body, a feeling which could only fulfill one’s heart with all that it desires. "Hi..." I trailed off, stunned by how similar, yet different his appearance was from when we last saw one another. His hair had the same shape, though it seemed a little shorter, his eyebags still prominent on his features, though it seemed as if they had sagged down slightly, posing the idea of whether he had been sleeping alright. His torso still adorned shirts with dark colours, amplified with one of his leather jackets which only made me more attracted to him. Widening the door, he set foot into the apartment, nodding his head lightly as a greeting. Although I was very elated to the fact that he was in my apartment, it felt eerie having him back here after so long, stepping foot into the space that was once served merely as a homely and secure space where we both could simply live and enjoy our time together, no distractions included.
Once I had followed him into the living space, he took a seat onto the couch facing the television. I attempted to make my footsteps omit as little noise as possible, as if to avoid damaging the awkward silence that had been shared between the pair of us. It went without saying that neither of us knew how to break the ice, or where this was going to head. One could only hope that the outcome of this meeting was positive. “Do you want something to drink?” I asked, ushering over to the cabinet adjacent to the television, supplied with all sorts of alcoholic beverages in which I had not touched, simply there as a point of manners to offer when somebody had come over. “White?” I offered, pulling out an almost-full bottle of white wine. I knew he hated it.
"You know I’ve always hated white." he mumbled, a small smile playing upon his lips. Something about that little grin plastered on his lips made my stomach flip and turn, welcoming a swarm of butterflies to accentuate the nervous pit that had formed within myself. The intense feelings reminded me of the same bewilderment your body undergoes during the first date; there is such a raw attraction to somebody that you know far too little about, but you are so hypnotised by their presence it is as if they’re the only thing in the world that matters, to the point that they obnoxiously overtake your mind, every little thought occupied with their name, wondering whether they may like such and such, like an infection spreading without you knowing such cure for it. The atmosphere was intense, carrying the same ambience of two strangers meeting for the first time in an isolated space, though there was also a refreshing element of familiarity that neither of us wanted to admit that we appreciated so deeply.
"Red?" I asked, snatching the half empty bottle as I placed the other wine bottle back in its designated place, turning my head back to fix my gaze onto Damon, raising my eyebrows as a form of derise for the drink. Nodding his head in response, I quickly took two glasses from the cabinet, brimming them both with the alcoholic liquid before slowly making my way to sit next to him on the sofa, handing him one of the glasses as he thanked me in response. The same devilish silence echoed in the room once again as we granted the situation to truly sink in - thankfully alcohol was present. As I took a sip of the beverage, I tried to gulp down as much liquid as possible before I spoke once again. "So... how have you been?"
"Good... Just came off tour actually. Was a really successful one." he replied, his voice laced with a slight tone of doubt, edging the regret of so eagerly returning back into a place that was once so attached to his occupancy. He carried on talking about how the tour had been, my head subconsciously nodding, attentive to what he was talking about. Each time he had told me about something new they had added, or something they had changed surrounding the live performance set-up, it never failed to blow me away. Him and Jamie together, working on such a creative idea and putting it to life on stage was truly something out of rare virtuosity, disregarding the lengthy old ramblings from Damon almost every night he had returned home about how much Jamie had pissed him off, having a petty argument as if it was a be or end all in their friendship. It was actually a good form of entertainment, seeing how riled up Damon had gotten simply because of something that Jamie joked in an interview.
Once he had finished talking, our eyes connected, uncertainty clouded in his eyes as he searched for the reason behind him needing to come over. "Y/N, why did you ask me to come over?" He said, abrupt, almost as if those words had been lingering at the back of his mind the entire time we had been in one another’s acquaintance; the ease of the sting of words rolling off his tongue softly implied that, perhaps a try to prevent the harshness of the asking from offending me in the slightest. "We haven't seen each other for a year, why now?"
Both gazes never dared to break contact as if we had attempted to communicate telepathically - the ideation of instigating a conversation as awkward as how this had become, the two of us simply wanting the ground to swallow us whole. His gaze had the ability to put me into a trance upon which I wouldn’t be able to think of anything else except for the utter magnificence that was birthed into his loving eyes. Inhaling sharply, I tried to collect the thoughts in my brain that had been travelling in all directions, searching for all sorts of different possibilities that the conversation could reach. "Can we give it a second chance?" I asked absentmindedly, the realisation of what had just rolled off my tongue not settling in my mind until his eyes widened, speechless and shocked at my sudden questioning.
Sighing, he cocked his head to the side. “Love, we didn't work out the first time..." he began, my heart dropping to my stomach as the thought of him breaking my heart again entered my mind. His expression quickly softened once he saw my face drain colour, explaining all that he needed to know about how I had coped since he had left the picture. "I don't want to hurt you again."
Breaking away from the stare, I gawked at the dark shades of red that had adorned the transparent glass clasped in my palm. Holding in my emotions wasn’t going to do me any justice, and since he was here, it would not make sense for me to stupidly avoid the whole reasoning behind me needing him inside my apartment after so long. “It’s been so hard trying to get over you,” I mumbled, my voice almost inaudible out of embarrassment, though I knew he could hear me. “I need you.”
What I didn’t see from my shameful gaze at the ground, was the miniscule beam that broke out across Damon’s features. What I was unaware of, my body encompassed in such a impotent state of pure isolation, was that Damon had been as dependent on hearing those words escaping my mouth before he could admit the same to himself. Though it had all been answered to me as he softly brought his arm to caress my arm, gently squeezing the skin as a form of reassurance, implying the notion that he understood, that he felt the same way, after all this time. We broke up not because we lost feelings, but because the emotions we carried for one another were too strong to handle, too intense to progress with, that when he was gone for those long hours it had left me in such a stupor of helplessness and melancholy that it was unbearable to handle without it tarnishing my health. Unsurprisingly, at this point we knew where the conversation was headed; my desires to be swathed in his arms once again that I had tried so hard to banish to the back of my mind, to the depths of my distant memories in which by reliving such a hug came flooding back, my body leaned into his touch almost instantaneously, a subconscious reflex that I had craved, such an embrace that no other person could give, the mere side hug from him was able to banish all the pain that I had tried so diligently to mask away for the past few months.
We sat there for a short while, taking in the moment as it had played throughout, our breathing syncing together as comfort relished in the atmosphere, our minds now finally at peace while all the conflict that had battled our minds over the time we weren’t together. "Let me come on tour with you." I said, my head resting against his shoulder.
A chuckle erupted out of his throat. “It’s not that easy love.”
"Why can't it be? You're literally the frontman!" I exclaimed, lifting my head off his shoulder to connect eyes with him. "Damon, it would be so fun!" I exclaimed, attempting to encourage him.
It was as if things had mended back together, all the cracks in the pavements had been glued together to mend the time lost, as if it had never occurred. Through all the hardship I had faced trying to find the remedy to my heartache, I was dumbfounded to realise that it had been sitting in front of me, at the top of my phone’s contact list, right in front of my eyes this entire time. His eyes were calling out to me, enveloping my heart in comfort and warmth, the hunger radiating out eager to the ideation of starting anew and preserving the time in which we had lost, building new memories, unfastening the lock on the clock dictating the length of the relationship, allowing it to elongate, carry on as long as we could. My heart brimmed with homeliness - the house I was inside finally feeling normal to me once again.
"I'll see what I can do," he grins, the beautiful sight causing a small smile to erupt on my face as my body melted back into his arms once again. "No promises though."
It felt nice to wake up next to someone again the next morning, on the mattress that once was a carcass of many tears of sadness and melancholy, authentically conveyed by the essence of nihilism embodied from isolation, the kind of philosophical beliefs one could only develop an understanding towards subsequent to irrational thinking as the hours fell still, leaving you sat there, reliving the last moments from your memory bank with the significant other you had soiled ends with, a person who had supported you from the very beginning, even when things formed a bitter congestion to the relationship devoured by both participants, perhaps from the acceleration of argumentation shared, or the distance that had started to weave its way between, leaving you both stranded to conclude, as if you were both on separate, desolate islands fighting against the starvation of progressing through your lives and starting anew, departing from the old knots and attachments formed once epitomising pure adoration and love, though over time spawning to be the offspring of the devil. A person whom you knew would make your bed every morning, cradle you in his arms at the darkest hours to baptise the negativity coiled in your brain, whispering what seems like sweet nothings, merely sounding like soft raspy groans due to them being exhausted out of their mind, but you knew they were saying something to you, you could hear it, acknowledge it in a language that nobody else was able to understand. I relished in concession that he who lay beside me was the one that bestowed and epitomised all the things that I once lacked a night before. A lover.

“We’re almost there, Elliott,” Bastien called to the backseat, startling her out of her sleep.
She rubbed her eyes and stretched, slipping her coat she’d been using as a blanket over her shoulders, zipping it up to her chin.
Lythikos had an intense frigidity to it, one that Elliott couldn’t forget. She only visited monthly for short periods of time, but the stinging sensation of the snow on her bare face never left her memory.
She checked her phone, her heart fluttering at the pseudonym that appeared on her phone.
“Hello?”
“Hey. I’m finishing up my last obligation, but I shouldn’t be longer than an hour.” His voice warmed her heart. It was the first time in weeks she’d heard it over the phone, not on television in a rehearsed speech.
“Okay. I brought some of my work with me if that’s alright with you. I’d love your feedback,” Elliott smiled to herself, treasuring her lover’s genuine interest in her new profession.
“Of course,” she could hear him beam through the phone. “I love you.”
“I love you too. See you soon.”
He hung up, and she sighed. Sneaking around was getting so tiresome, but she’d do anything and everything for Liam.
After Elliott and her friends couldn’t locate Tariq, the wedding went on as scheduled. It took her months of hiding out in Cordonia with her best friends to get herself together. Hana stayed by her side consistently, consoling her until she figured out a game plan.
She thought she’d be able to find a solution and live out her fairytale, but she was too late. She’d never be able to fully have Liam like she wanted, but Madeleine offered her a compromise to keep everyone happy.
She’d brought it up to Elliott before everything went to shit, and Elliott rejected it. She saw being a ‘mistress’ as an insult, because she knew she could find a way out of the mess she was in.
Months later, Madeleine, Liam, and Elliott ran a tight ship with friends to keep the affair under wraps.
Elliott could only meet with Liam once a month, under the guise that he had important monthly meetings to attend at Olivia’s home. They could only meet for a weekend at best, and a few hours at worst.
They rarely contacted each other between their meetings. It was depressing, but necessary to keep them a secret. Liam had a burner phone, and Elliott had to save his number under an undetectable moniker. When they spoke, it was short and sweet, and they couldn’t use each other’s real names.
She flew to Cordonia monthly, usually having to go to great lengths to disguise herself from the paparazzi.
It was emotionally draining and everything leading up to the rendezvous was stressful and tense, but all worth it when she saw Liam’s face light up when he first saw her.
Bastien pulled into the driveway behind the castle, easing up next to a side entrance that Elliott was all too familiar with – she knew Olivia would be waiting behind the large door.
She fixed her wig, pulling her beanie over the top of it, and hid her purple-rimmed eyes behind huge square sunglasses.
“Olivia informed me that you can go to the door. I’ll bring your bags in later. There aren’t any paparazzi in sight, so you’ll be safe,” he smiled at her through the rearview mirror, a sympathetic look in his eyes.
“Thank you so much, Bastien. I could never repay you for what you’re doing for Liam and I,” she replied gratefully, apology laced through the tone in her voice.
“Anything you need, I’m here. Don’t feel guilty. The only time he’s happy is when he sees you, and I’d never get in the way of that.”
Her heart swelled at the thought. She waved to him, stepping out into the blizzard.
The door cracked open, and Elliott spotted the fiery hair before her expression.
“Come in, come in,” Olivia frowned at her messy disguise. “That wig’s a mess, Elliott. If you’re gonna opt for a cheap, frizzy wig, at least hide a pocket knife in it.”
Elliott shrugged, grinning at Olivia’s annoyance. “Why should I do that when I have my best friend here to protect me?”
Olivia scowled, a hint of a smile on her lips. “You’re lucky I’m your ally.” She turned on her heel and stalked down the hallway, leaving Elliott scurrying to catch up.
Elliott had gotten pretty familiar with the underground tunnels of Lythikos over the past year. Olivia secretly renovated an unused area to make an apartment-like cluster of rooms, so that Elliott could stay safely in the tunnels with everything she needed, and she wouldn’t be bothered by anyone.
It was an ingenious idea, and Elliott had no idea how to pay her back for her generosity. Honestly, Olivia probably did it to avoid controversy, like most every noble was doing. Elliott wasn’t sure if Olivia was doing it for the sake of Cordonia’s image or the sake of her friends’ sanity.
Olivia pulled out a skeleton key and unlocked the door, turning on the lights. “I added a more comfortable bed, some more decorations, and got Bastien to fully stock the fridge, so you can cook pretty much anything you want.”
She walked over to the living room area and pointed at the T.V. “I didn’t have to get a 60 inch flatscreen for you, but I know how much you love binging horror movies that I had to help scare you somehow.” She smirked, and pulled out a few drawers from the T.V. stand. “I ordered a hundred or so movies in case you get bored. I have no idea how long you’re gonna be here.”
Elliott shifted her weight, sighing. It was too painful to stay longer than a couple of days. “I was gonna leave on Sunday like I usually do –”
“How asinine. You’re taking a 9 hour flight on a Thursday night to get here by morning, and you take another 9 hour flight back on Sunday morning? You’re wearing yourself thin for no reason, Elliott,” she shook her head at Elliott, confusion lining her expression.
“Liam usually can’t spend more than 2 days at a time with me.”
“You have other friends in Cordonia, you know that right?” She narrowed her eyes at her, crossing her arms.
“After all that happened, I can’t show my face here. My reputation is tarnished, and even being seen here is a scandal waiting to happen. It gets riskier and riskier every time. I can’t risk any of my friend’s well-being for the sake of my secret relationship,” Elliott plopped onto the couch, defeated.
Remorse flashed through Olivia’s eyes, but it disappeared as quickly as it came. “None of this is your fault, Elliott. We know the truth.”
Elliott shook her head, a lump forming at the back of her throat. It didn’t matter that Justin and Adelaide were ousted as terrorists, and that Elliott’s friends were able to stop them from assassinating Liam and Madeleine.
Tariq was never found, and King Constantine was killed before he could clear her name. No one would believe Bastien, and Penelope was too afraid to publicly admit her wrongdoing, so Elliott didn’t have enough evidence to be exonerated.
“Sometimes… I wish everything were different. Maybe if we’d split up and searched on our own… or if I tried a little harder…” She struggled, her throat burning, a sign of tears to come. She didn’t want to talk about this situation any more than she had to, which was every time she visited.
Her new life was pretty much an escape from the events of the past year, but she was forced to face her past trauma head on every time she stepped foot on Cordonian soil.
“Elliott…” Olivia trailed off, and reached towards her, but dropped her hand. “I’m sorry I brought it up. I guess I’m still seething over the whole ordeal. I’m pretty defensive since I know we’re right but no one else knows that.” She sat down, leaning back onto the couch, crossing her legs. “You shouldn’t feel like youre risking our social standing or anything. All of us know exactly what we’re risking to help you and Liam, and we’re okay with it. You’re our…” She whispered the last word and Elliott couldn’t quite hear her.
“I’m your what?”
“...friend.”
Elliott threw her arms around Olivia, relishing in the rare vulnerable moment. Olivia seldom showed her true feelings, but when she did, it was like watching a shooting star. It was beautiful, fleeting – a great memory nonetheless.
“Get off of me, you sap,” Olivia patted Elliott’s back with the tip of her fingers.
“Thank you for everything you’re doing. I seriously can’t thank you enough. If there’s ever anything I can do to repay you all, please tell me. I owe you a lifetime of favors.”
“Well, first, you can actually spend time with Hana, Drake, and Maxwell. They won’t shut up about you.” Olivia rolled her eyes.
“Deal. I never got to see Cordonia on my own time, so maybe you could give me a proper tour of Lythikos next time I’m here. You know, when I’m not banished to the cellar.” Elliott grinned.
Olivia laughed once, a delightful noise. “Sure, but you’ll need better snow gear. And take a self-defense class or two before you do so.”
Elliott quirked a brow at her friend, then shook her head. “I won’t even pretend to know what you have planned for me.”
Olivia stood up, and headed for the door. “You have no idea.” She opened it, and before leaving, she said, “Liam should be here soon. Let me know when he’s in the room so Bastien and I can keep watch.”
“Be careful, Liv.”
“Don’t call me that,” Olivia smirked, and closed the door.
----
Elliott spent the next hour working in her notebook, editing and rewriting paragraph after paragraph. An animated movie she’d seen a million times played in the background, prompting Elliott to hum along to her favorite song.
After another hour, she started to worry. She aimlessly flipped through the collection of DVD’s, not really paying attention to the titles.
Where’s Liam? She thought, an uneasy feeling forming in the pit of her stomach.
After hour three, she read a little from a book she’d brought until her eyes started getting heavy.
She awoke to a sequence of 5 sharp raps on the door, followed by a pause, then 3 more.
Our secret knock, She thought. She shot up from the couch and ran to the door, happy tears already welling up on her bottom lids.
She fumbled with the lock, anticipation causing her to shakily rip open the door.
And there Liam stood, holding a bouquet of flowers, a bottle of champagne, and a neatly wrapped present. His perfectly tailored suit laid perfectly on his arms and torso, his muscles just barely concealed. He beamed, his eyes glistening as his eyes grazed over her face.
She grabbed him by the lapels, pulling him inside hastily. “Whoa,” he said, nearly losing balance.
Elliott blushed, wrapping her arms around his neck and bringing his face close to hers. She pressed her lips softly on his, a picture perfect moment she snapshotted and tucked away in her favorite memories.
All of the anxiety she felt traveling in disguise melted away the moment she touched Liam.
“I missed you,” he murmured against her lips.
“I missed you more,” she breathed, snuggling into his neck.
After a sweet moment, she pulled back, and snatched the champagne from his hands. “What’re we celebrating, love?”
He grinned, and locked the door behind him. “It’s a momentous day, Elliott. It’s been a year to the day since we first met.”
Elliott looked at him lovingly, hugging the bottle to her chest. “A whole year?”
He nodded, setting the flowers and present on the table, and gathered Elliott in his arms, hugging her to his chest tightly. “A whole year. I know this situation isn’t ideal, but I’ve never loved anyone like I love you, Elliott.”
He used a finger to tilt her chin to him, and he pressed a soft kiss on her bottom lip. “You’re everything to me.”
“I love you so much, Liam.” She giggled, shaking her head. “From waitress to mistress. Same suffix, different job title.”
His smile wavered, and he exhaled a long breath, obviously uncomfortable with the joke she’d told. “I wish you’d stop putting yourself down like that. Marriage is just a title. Madeleine and I are just business partners. You’re my soulmate, Elliott.”
She pulled back, fiddling with the top of the champagne. “I know. I just wish we didn’t have to be so secretive.”
He gently took the bottle from my hands and popped it open. “I’ve still got local historians and lawyers on my payroll, and they’ve been extensively researching Cordonian laws. I don’t know if they’ll find anything, but I’m determined to keep looking. I don’t want to lose hope.”
Elliott pressed her mouth into a line, then quirked it to the side, processing everything he’d said. “I want to be hopeful that we’ll get out of this eventually, but I’d rather just enjoy the time I have with you, baby. Stress free.”
He poured them two glasses of champagne, and handed one to her. “Of course. My apologies.”
They sat at the kitchen table, and Elliott picked up the flowers, taking a deep whiff of the bouquet. “You really outdid yourself this time, Liam.”
The cluster of sunflowers, lavender, and white roses contrasted beautifully, and smelled even better. “They reminded me of you, so I had to pick them up.”
“Along with a gift?” She lifted a brow, challenging him.
He sipped his champagne, trying to hide a smile. “I think you’ll like it. Open it.”
She ripped off the wrapping paper to reveal a plain white box. She lifted the top off, revealing an assortment of toys on top of a lacy lingerie piece. Her cheeks heated, and she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear.
“I love it,” Elliott said, nibbling at the skin on her lip.
Liam eyed her lips, a playful look in his eye. “I thought we could try something new this weekend.”
The blush on her cheeks stayed, despite her eagerness to get in bed. “I like the sound of that.”
She gulped down the rest of her champagne and snatched the lacy piece, running to the bedroom.
“Hey!” Liam called, about to stand from the table.
“I’m trying on the lingerie! Stay where you are! It’s a surprise!” She yelled through the closed door.
Elliott emerged after a few minutes, peeking her head out of the door. “You ready?”
“Beyond ready, my love.”
She stepped out, and Liam’s breath hitched in his throat. She could plainly see him shift his legs, desperately trying to conceal his bulge.
“You look… stunning. Absolutely gorgeous, Elliott,” he said, his mouth agape, eyes hungrily roaming across her body.
The strappy lace piece fit like a bikini. The bottom was closer to a g-string than a thong, and the crotch was cut out, making it for easier access. The lace was sheer, barely covering her nipples and folds. She should’ve felt sexy, but was more out of place than anything.
“This is so corny, Liam. You bought me something that you’re just going to strip off of me, and I look absolutely ridiculous in it,” She said, crossing her legs to cover the lack of cloth around her opening.
He stood from his chair and crossed the room to touch her. He laced his fingers through her hair and draped his other hand across the small of her back. He tilted her head back, kissing her neck and nipping gently at her exposed skin.
“You’re right. I want to rip this off of you, but I can’t even begin to describe to you how arousing this outfit is. You never have to wear something that you’re not comfortable in, but I assure you it’s a pleasurable experience on my end,” he breathed into her ear, tightening his grip around her waist.
“Oh fuck,” She whispered, his bulge rubbing against her, causing her to gasp in repsonse. “Please, let’s talk later, and fuck now. I need you now, Liam.”
“Say no more, beautiful.” He swept her up and brought her to the bedroom, slamming the door behind them with his foot.
He dropped her onto the bed, and shimmied off his coat jacket, hanging it on the back of the wall.
“You’re so adorable, Liam. In the midst of a heated moment, you still have the mind to hang your coat up carefully so that it doesn’t crease before fucking my brains out,” she giggled.
Liam scrunched his nose up in confusion. “I can be reckless.” He threw his coat on the ground, but after a few seconds of eye contact with Elliott, where she could tell how absolutely tormented he was, he snatched it by the lapels.
Elliott howled with laughter as Liam hung it up carefully, brushing off the dirt.
“You always manage to be right, Elliott,” he softly smiled, unbuttoning his top buttons slowly. “But I don’t mind.” His arms flexed as he rolled his sleeves up. “As long as you don’t mind that I’m a little reckless in private, that’s all that matters.”
Her heart raced as he left the room and returned with the box of toys. Although she’d committed Liam’s body and their sexual encounters to memory, she still found herself enthralled with him like it was the first time they met.
He sat on the bed next to Elliott’s lace-clad body, and tucked a hair behind her ear. “Are you okay with me trying some of the toys out on you? I want to make sure you’re completely comfortable with it before trying anything.”
She smiled, nodding. “Yes.”
He pulled a small handheld vibrator out of the box, just small enough to fit on a finger. “First things first, I want to taste you.”
Her lower stomach clenched and ached as he grabbed her thighs and pulled her to the edge of the bed, parting her legs. Before she could throw out a sexy quip, he had taken advantage of the crotchless design by plunging his tongue into her folds, stroking relentlessly.
She moaned and dug her hands into his hair, tugging at his dark strands. He in turn rumbled against her clit, sending shockwaves through her body.
“Liam, please,” she breathed, feeling his hand on her stomach, holding her bucking hips in place.
He knew exactly what she wanted; he always read her cues perfectly. He slid a finger into her, curling it the way Elliott loved. He moved his hand and tongue in unison, the similar paces bringing her close to the edge.
Just as she was about to release, he pulled away, slipping the vibrator on his fingers. “Is it alright if I try this out on you now?”
She nodded, her body eager for his touch. He massaged her clit slowly with his fingers, keeping in time with the laggard pace of his other fingers pumping in and out of her.
The strong vibration mixed with the pressure of his fingers sent Elliot into another world. Her eyes rolled back, and she focused on the image of Liam’s naked physique, his head between her legs…
Before she knew it, her legs were shaking. Liam kissed her softly, and reached into the box again, but she placed a hand on his wrist lightly. “We have all weekend to play with them. I need you in me now.”
His pupils dilated even further, and he nodded, standing up to slip off his clothes. Although she’d seen him bare numerous times, it never failed to amaze her that the man whose heart belonged to her was so breathtaking. His body looked as it was crafted by the gods themselves, chiseled to perfection, undoubtedly due to his strict fitness and diet regimen.
He grabbed a condom from the box of toys, but before he could tear it open, she stopped him. “Could we… go without one this time? I’m on birth control.”
She wanted so desperately to tell him the whole truth, but she decided she’d wait until the time was right. It would sound like an irrational decision to him, but she had thought it out nearly every day since she left Cordonia for the first time.
“I’m not sure that’s a good idea, but… I’ll pull out. Just in case.” He looked unsure, but lowered himself onto the bed next to her anyways.
“If you don’t want to, you don’t have to. I just thought,” she shook her head. “Nevermind.”
“No, please continue. Don’t ever feel like you can’t be honest with me, Elliott.” He touched her cheek softly.
“The only time we had sex without protection was our first time in the garden, remember?” She smiled softly, reminiscing.
“Of course I remember, my love. It’s one of my favorite times that we’ve been together.”
“Oh, so you’re ranking them now?” She smirked.
“Definitely not. Every time is special, but that one was even more special to me.”
“I was thinking we could kind of recreate the night.”
His eyes twinkled, full of love for the woman he could never fully give himself to. It was depressing, but Elliott pushed those thoughts behind her horniness and flipped on top of him.
“I love when you take charge, El,” he said, his voice verging on a growl.
“You’ve never used that nickname. What gives?” She tried joking, but his bare shaft pressed between her legs was distracting to say the least.
“I don’t know, I thought it was cute,” he shrugged. “I won’t call you that if you don’t like it.”
“No, I love it,” she breathed, and began grinding her hips against his. His grip on her hips tightened, and she leaned forward, kissing him deeply.
He grabbed his dick and rubbed his tip against her opening, teasing her. “You’re a tease.”
He pressed his hips upwards, entering her. Her body shuddered with pleasure as her walls adjusted to his size.
“Fuck, you feel so good,” he groaned, as her hips moved lazily against his.
“It’s so weird hearing you curse, King Liam,” she whispered in his ear, kissing his neck.
His fingers dug into the flesh of her hips. “I’ve never been aroused by a title before, but I have to say that ‘King Liam’ sounds delectable coming from your lips.”
He moved his hands to grip underneath her ass, lifting and lowering her the length of his shaft. She mewled in response, her legs tightening their grip around his middle. “I’ll call you whatever you want as long as you speed it up,” she purred.
He picked up the pace, deepening his thrusts. All of her worries of the future were a fading blip, her sole focus on pleasuring and being pleasured by Liam.
Before she knew it, he’d flipped her, raised her hips, and pounded into her from behind. “Oh,” she cried, her guttural moan muffled by the thick down pillow.
He sped up, his skin smacking against hers relentlessly, the sounds of ecstasy filling the room. She turned back to gaze at him through half lidded eyes, and was met with Liam’s sultry concentrating face. She’d seen it many times before, when discussing security issues with Bastien, but never in this context.
She felt herself getting wetter and wetter at the sight of him getting off inside of her. She was the one pleasuring him behind the scenes. She was the one exploring parts of him the public would never see, much less Madeleine. She got to see a side of Liam that not a single soul would ever experience. It gave Elliott a new sense of security, despite the harrowing situation they were in.
He reached into the box again and grabbed a handheld vibrator she hadn’t seen before. “I’m close, my love, and I want to make sure you’re there with me,” he panted, before switching it on.
He tried handing it to her, but instead, she guided his hand between her legs. “Oh fuck, El,” he cursed, sweat trickling down his clean shaven chest.
He leaned over her, keeping his fast pace, and placed the quivering toy between her folds. She arched her back in response, pushing herself further into the pillow.
The sensation of the vibrator mixed with getting fucked brought her to the edge quickly, and she released, her body convulsing beneath Liam’s. She shrieked his name, clutching the sheets. “Oh, Liam, fuck.”
He quickly followed her, his pace becoming more jerky as he came with her. “Fuck, I love you, Elliott,” he shouted. The deep commanding bass of his voice reverberated off the stone walls.
When they could finally move, Liam plopped next to her, spooning her while peppering soft kisses across her neck and shoulders.
She couldn’t have imagined herself anywhere else in that moment but Liam’s arms.
----
After they cleaned up, Elliott threw on a robe and flopped onto the couch, turning on the TV to browse through channels.
He sat next to her shortly after, clad with sweats and a plain t-shirt. “This might be a terrible time, but we need to discuss something rather difficult.”
“That phrasing definitely scares me, but go ahead,” she joked, turning the TV off.
“We’re being pressured to pursue producing an heir,” Liam shook his head, pain and regret dripping off of his every syllable.
“Wh… What?” She forced out. Her knees wobbled, the air knocked out of her lungs. She knew it was coming, but not this soon after the wedding.
“I’m so sorry,” he whispered, his hands balled into fists at his side.
“Why? You just got married! I thought we’d have a couple years at least!” she said, her voice hiking up an octave.
“With Constantine passing away and the terrorist attacks, there’s still some uneasiness within the people and nobles. They’re not sure that we’re still stable as a country. It’s more for the benefit of our image than anything. Trust me, I’ve held off as long as I could.” He couldn’t meet her eyes.
“Are you going to have to fuck her?” Elliott’s voice quivered, her breath unsteady. She didn’t know if she was ready for the answer.
His eyes widened. “No, Elliott, I would never. We don’t have feelings for each other like that. The public doesn’t need to know that we’re not having intercourse.”
Elliott’s chest loosened a bit, but she was still cautious as she waited for him to continue. “We’re either opting for adoption, or artificial insemination. There’s not a fertility issue with either of us, but we’re both not capable of sex with each other. It just can’t happen.” He held her gaze, pleading with her to understand.
“I–I can’t continue this if you’re going to have a child with her, Liam. I’d be a homewrecker. I can’t let you be that kind of dad to your kid,” Elliott shook her head, tears freely falling.
His jaw dropped, and he staggered back. “Elliott, my love, I–”
“I know you love me, and I know that I love you. I know that life is going to be so fucking hard without each other, but I can’t do this to your future kid,” she sobbed, sinking into the couch. “You and Madeleine may have consented to our relationship, but your child didn’t sign up for this. Imagine if they found out about us? He’d think so little of you. I can’t have that.”
Her shoulders shook, her breath heaving in and out of her lungs shakily. She was experiencing a loss like she’d never felt before. She could stay with the love of her life in order to satiate her desire to be with him, but at the expense of horrendous guilt, knowing she could possibly break a family up and warp Liam’s future child’s perception of him.
If they stayed together, and the public found out about them, he’d be painted as the bad guy, even though Madeleine encouraged the affair. She’d throw him to the wolves, and he’d be absolutely obliterated by the press.
There wasn’t a winning solution to this problem. They were going to have to do what was best for everyone else, instead of what they truly wanted.
“I’m so sorry, Liam, but I can’t do this. I love you, but I can’t do this anymore,” she repeated and the excruciating pain in her chest continued.
“Elliott, we can figure it out, I know we can–”
“We can’t, Liam! This is it! This is the last time you’re going to see me!” She shouted, her voice trembling and unstable.
“We can still be friends,” he said softly, kneeling next to her trembling form on the couch. “I still want you in my life no matter what, Elliott.”
Anger flashed through her disjointed train of thought. Before she could gather them together, she unleashed her momentary rage on him.
“You’re really that selfish, Liam? You’re that fucking selfish that you could want to maintain the picture perfect life and get everything you could ever want, while keeping me on a short leash? To be there for you emotionally, physically, sexually, but I get nothing in return?” She stood up, pushing an accusatory finger into his exposed chest.
“I have to work under a pen name because of everything that happened. You can’t even Google my government name without reading about how much of a whore I am. I risked my whole life and career to be with you, and you didn’t have the decency to publicly defend me. You just sided with everyone else except for the woman you supposedly ‘love’,” Elliott continued, pushing a tormented Liam closer and closer to the door.
“I have to fly back home when you’re done with me and leave all of my closest friends. This is my real home. I have people who love me and care for me here. I fell in love with Cordonia, its people, and you. But I’m pretty much a prisoner in a dungeon every time I come over,” she rolled her eyes, refusing to shut her mouth and let Liam speak. “All for sex. All for a quick fuck and less than 48 hours of your time before I’m shuttled off back to the cold, heartless city of New York.”
Liam opened his mouth, but nothing came out. Elliott suddenly cackled, cutting off any attempt of him speaking.
“I forgot to tell you that I landed a book deal with a huge publishing company in the city. They want a few novels out of me. They loved my first rough draft of my book so much that they offered me a multi-book deal,” she smiled, shaking her head.
“That’s incredible, baby–”
“I was excited to tell you and instead all I can think about is how by the time I get my first book printed and released, you’ll have a kid. A family,” Elliott walked away from Liam, and sat at the kitchen table, taking a long swig from the champagne bottle.
After a long moment of silence between them, Liam finally spoke. “I know it seems like the universe is fighting us tooth and nail. I know that this situation is the worst we could be in. But Elliott,” he sat down across from her and lifted her chin up with his finger, “You’re the only woman I’ll ever love, and I won’t give up on this unless you tell me to leave you alone.”
“You know I don’t want to tell you to leave me alone. That’s the last fucking thing I want to do, but that’s how it has to be. You’re being selfish right now, Liam. You’re allowed to be selfish sometimes. This whole situation was selfish, but I guess it was okay since Madeleine okay-ed it,” she took another deep drink from the bottle. “But your child is completely innocent. They don’t deserve to be caught up in your selfish decisions.”
He flinched, and his form deflated. “I think… you might be right, El.” He leaned back in his chair, his eyes glistening. “I guess it was absurd to think this affair would last forever.”
She smiled sadly. “It was fun while it lasted.”
“I’ll always love you, El. I’ve always been truthful about that. You’re the only woman I’ll ever love.”
She leaned forward to cup his face in her palm. “I’ll never love anyone the way I love you, Liam.” She took another gulp of the alcohol. “I guess now that you’re confessing, I’ll have to confess, too.”
His brows furrowed as he waited for her to continue.
“I have an appointment with my OBGYN next week. I’ve always wanted one, but I’ve been seriously contemplating a hysterectomy for months now. Since you married Madeleine, really.”
“What? Why?” His eyes widened in surprise.
“I can’t see myself with children, but I can with you. You’re the only man I could ever picture having children with,” her eyes filled with tears. “It’s not a punishment to myself. I just know in my heart I’ll never want children again.”
His eyes brimmed with tears threatening to spill. “I’m so sorry, Elliott.”
Her chin wobbled as the truth of the situation finally set in. She was no longer his, and he was no longer hers. The crown disrupted the fate of the lovers, and there was no amendment.

“Is my attire okay?” you asked Sejeong, your supervisor.
She gave you a once over, “Proper business attire? Yes, it’s the standard here at Rivers & Martin.” Sejeong briskly walked ahead of you as you trailed behind her. She pointed out the different rooms, showing which copier worked, which meeting room you were expected to be in, and which break room had a working coffee machine. The mini-tour ended at the little cubicle set aside for you. “You’ll be situated here. Personal belongings go in the bottom right drawer, and your co-intern will be in the cubicle across from yours,” she said, already helping you place your things onto the little desk. You peered over the divider to see no one in the other cubicle. Sejeong noticed your curious glances over to the other side. “He’s not here yet. He had informed us he had water polo practice until 4, so he will be joining you shortly,” Sejeong explained, helping you organize your pens. You nodded, thanking her sweetly for helping you.
When she left, you plopped yourself down in your chair, spinning around and staring in awe at your surroundings. “Rivers & Martins…I actually made it,” you said to yourself, giving yourself a little pat on the back. Noticing the spreadsheets and documents already placed on your table, you got to work.
The clock read 4:00pm as you finished writing another summary for a past trial. You pushed yourself away from the desk, stretching out your arms and letting out a deep sigh. “Tired, sweetheart?” some asked from behind you. A chill instantly ran down your spine. It can’t be? Right? You slowly turned around to see Ong Seongwoo smirking down at you.
“What are you doing here?” you asked icily, crossing your arms over your chest. He walked into your small cubicle space at this point, dropping his bag onto the floor, and leaning himself against your desk.
“Well, I’m interning here, if you haven’t noticed already,” he said smugly.
Your eyes narrowed at his words. “Rivers & Martin rarely allows for two interns to come from the same school,” you said, “so how’d you get in?” He played with the pens that lined neatly on your desk.
“Well, sweetheart, I guess they were so amazed by my application,” he drawled, now thumbing through your papers. You rolled your eyes at his arrogance. Seongwoo then leaned down until his lips barely grazed your ear. “It might also help that my father happens to be good friends with Mr. Rivers and Mrs. Martin,” he whispered. You could almost hear the smile in his voice.
You shoved him away from you before speaking, “Fuck off, Ong, or else I’ll report you to Human Resources for harassment.” Seongwoo chuckled at your statement, grabbing his bag off of the floor, and swinging it over his shoulders.
He then went to his cubicle, and before you could let out a sigh of relief, his head popped up over the divider. “Can’t wait to see you every single day, sweetheart,” he said, then lowered his gaze to your legs, “Also loving the pencil skirt, but we all know it’d look better on the floor." He even had the audacity to wink.
“I’m going to do it,” you said that night, squeezing the life out of your teddy bear, “I’m actually going to murder Ong Seongwoo.” Nayoung shook her head in disapproval from her desk, too busy highlighting her notes to listen to your rage-fueled ramblings. You continued on vividly painting her a picture of exactly how you were going to conduct your crime.
She looked up from her desk and turned to you, “Have you tried ignoring him, Y/N? Sounds like he just wants your attention.”
You rolled over onto your side. “Nayoung,” you said, almost pleading at this point, “listen. This is Ong fucking Seongwoo, okay? I can’t just ignore him.” Nayoung rolled her eyes at your dramaticism. You got up out of bed and started pacing the room, a habit you’ve acquired over the years whenever you got heated. “Every time I try to ignore him, he pops his big fat head right in front of my face, and whenever I turn the other way, he just finds a way to get even closer to me,” you ranted, “plus I can’t just let him have the last word! He needs to know that I will not take any of his snarky comments; he needs to know not to mess with me.” A strong sense of murderous rage filled the pit of your stomach, and you found yourself already at your door, two steps away from storming to the boys’ dorms and strangling Seongwoo in his sleep.
“Silence can be the best weapon, Y/N,” Nayoung said sagely, already returning her focus back onto her notes. You threw up your hands in exasperation, trodding back to your bed and plopping back into it.
In Jonghyun and Minhyun’s dorm, the boys lounged on the floor, drinking sodas and eating snacks. “Any luck, boys?” Daniel asked, mouth full of gummies. A murmur of no’s chorused among the boys, everyone except Seongwoo. He was leaning against the side of Jonghyun’s bed, a smug smile played across his lips as he scrolled through his phone.
“What’s got you so happy?” Jaehwan asked, sourly sipping at his soda. Daniel nudged his best friend’s shoulder, giving him a thumbs up.
Hyunbin couldn’t hide the incredulous look that crossed his face. “You slept with her already?” he sputtered out, “Ice princess, Y/N?” Daniel continued to give Seongwoo supportive pats on the back.
Seongwoo cracked a smirk. “Boys,” he started looking around the circle to make sure he had everyone’s undivided attention, “I like to think of women like safes. Not necessarily the easiest thing to crack, but once you have the right code,” he snapped, “you’re in.” Daniel nodded in agreement to Seongwoo’s advice, and Jaehwan couldn’t help but begrudgedly agree. Jonghyun fiddled with his hands, ears turning red at the implication of his friend’s words.
Minhyun, on the other hand, was not impressed, “You can’t just liken women to safes, Seongwoo. They’re not some sort of game or puzzle you mess around with until you get your wanted end result.” The rest of the boys, excluding Jonghyun who had crawled into bed at this point, groaned.
Seongwoo scoffed at his friend’s words, “Aren’t you such a hypocrite? Scolding me for going after Y/N’s virginity when we all know you’re the same.” Minhyun turned his gaze away from Seongwoo, ears turning bright red. The rest of the boys shifted uncomfortably in their seats.
Minhyun suddenly spoke up, “I’m doing this because I want to get out of school with a secure future. I’m doing this to help my parents climb out of their mountain of debts. But you? You do this for fun. You play with girls, lead them on, and then break their hearts. You think I’m enjoying this right now? I can’t even look at her without feeling that sense of guilt gnawing at me. So yes, I might be a hypocrite right now, but I am nothing like you, Seongwoo.” A silence fell upon the boys. Minhyun got up from the floor and went into the adjoined bathroom, slamming the door behind him. The rest of the boys got up to leave.
“Goodnight, guys,” Jonghyun said softly, flinching slightly at the banging coming from the bathroom.

The Best of Dubai Attractions
Tumblr media
Dubai is UAE’s travel hotspot and well for a good reason! It’s a city of high rises, gigantic shopping malls among other attractions that have transformed the city from a desert outpost to a city of glamour. Tourists from across the globe flock for shopping, sunshine and family fun. The city of glitz is particularly popular for its incredible sightseeing attractions including world’s tallest building-the Burj Khalifa. Besides, the city has numerous cultural highlights and tons of things to do. In this post we’ll go deeper into the range of attractions in the city to allow you make an informed choice next time you’re planning on a sightseeing trip to Dubai. To expand your options even further, Arabia Horizons has included useful information on some of the most epic places of interest in UAE.
Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve
This is remarkably the first national park in UAE offering guests a stunning landscape of the sand dunes, the desert along its fauna which together creates such a beautiful scenery. The Dubai conservation reserve was once a camel farm with the land it occupies being bought by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum who through inspiration by South Africa’s national parks saw it perfect for Dubai to have own reserve.
The reserve is without a doubt a must visit for any outdoor adventure enthusiasts to experience dune bashing, sand boarding, off-roading and just so much more.
Highlights
●        Views of native wildlife including the sand cat, Gordon’s wildcat, Arabian hare, hedgehog and pygmy shrew to mention but a few
●        Colorful and diverse plants with several tree species, flowering shrubs and grasses
●        Plenty of adventure activities including dune drives, hot air balloon flights, outdoor dinners in Bedouin inspired camps
Tips
●        Bring sunscreen, glasses and a hat
●        Drink plenty of water
●        Wear comfortable shoes and clothing
Bedouin Camps - At The Top Burj Khalifa
Bedouin people are a desert dwelling ethnic group found in the Arabian Peninsula. Although the rapid modernization has resulted to most Bedouin herders and nomadic herders seeking alternate livelihood in the city, the camps still allow visitors to learn more about the Bedouin heritage.
Highlights
●        Found in the dunes of Dubai desert
●        Insight of what it might have looked like for a Bedouin family surviving in the harsh conditions of the desert
Tips
●        Perfect for adventure travelers, families and first-time visitors to Emirates
●        Bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat especially if visiting during daytime
●        Carry a light jacket because temperatures drop significantly in the desert once the sun goes down
Dubai Museum
Take a step back and escape the heat appreciating Dubai’s history in the air conditioned museum right beneath the epic Al Fahidi Fort-Also Dubai’s oldest building dating way back to 1787. Fun fact-Dubai was settled in as far as the Bronze age with rare alabaster objects from 3,000 BC to prove it.
Bastakiya
These are Dubai’s oldest buildings based in the atmospheric persian quarter-Bastakiya. The builders of these homes were Persian merchants from Bastak in Southern Iran. It’s only a decade ago the government rescued the crumbling buildings, reconstructed them and are now home to art galleries, cafes and boutique hotels.
Deira Souqs
If you’ve already visited Dubai museum and the Bastakiya, hop on an abra,-a traditional small wooden boat and visit the Deira side.for uneatable displays of Jewellery.
Jumeirah
Enjoy the grandeur of the low-rise suburbs spread spred along the beach. An outstanding feature of the  low-rise villas is the lush gardens and the gigantic sheikh’s palace situated behind high walls. The area is best visited in the morning hours, take a Jumeirah Mosque Tour then head over to Sheikh Mohammed’s Centre for Cultural Understanding. This takes us to our next attraction.
Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding
Situated in an old, yet elegant two storey courtyard is a perfect place for visitors to learn more about Islam and the Emirati culture in general. The centre takes things even a notch higher by hosting cultural meals including Breakfast (Available Mon and Wed,10am), Brunch (Sat 10:30 am), Lunch (Sun-Tues, 1pm), Dinner (Sun, Tues, Thurs 7pm) and Fuala (Sun, Tues, Thurs, 4:30pm)
NB: Fuala: Emirati style of welcoming guests with tea and pastries
Madinat Jumeirah
Since the dawn of Madinat Jumeirah, tons of shopping malls have arisen including the world class mall of Emirates, not mentioning the monumental Dubai Mall. Enjoy quality shopping from designer brands to varied dining options.and drinks including: Moroccan and Arabic coffee.
Al Ain
The area boasts plentiful attractions including wonderful forts, tranquil palm oases, archaeological museum and fascinating souqs.
Luckily, you can book a trip with friendly rates on Arabia Horizons (please insert link-couldn’t trace it) for a getaway of one or two in the laid back, low-key Al Ain.
Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum’s House
It would be an absolute pleasure visiting former home of the ruling Maktoum’s family. The house dates back to 1894 for the ruler’s grandfather and currently preserved as a museum. Inside it hosts a dozen photographs, documents and furnishings. The real amusement however comes from stepping inside the famous home which is by the way one of the oldest buildings in the city. The building boasts a classic example of domestic Arabian architecture complemented with picturesque wind towers.
Sharjah
Popularly known as the pearl of the gulf, Sharjah is the third largest Emirate and the only one with the privilege of a coastline on both coastlines (Persian gulf & gulf of Oman). In 1998, UNESCO designated the city also close to Dubai the title-The Arab City of Culture. Today the city has lived upto the title by giving visitors a range of cultural experiences. Start your exploration at the Heritage Area located near the Corniche. It’s here that you’ll find Sharjah Museum of Islamic civilization, the stunning Al Hisn Fort and Souq-Al-Arsah.
The Desert
Finally, no better way to wind up our epic list of amazing attractions in Dubai and around UAE than with the majestic landscapes of the desert. Only 20 minutes away from the ultra-modern downtown Dubai, you get to experience the wonders of the Arabian desert. In fact, the desert is the original attraction in Dubai  Make it a priority to go on a desert safari-Dubai style that suits your preference including: Off-roading, quad biking and sand boarding.
Seeing is believing and you don’t have to read or be told of the many wonders of the Arabian gulf. Come experience and make your own story ;)

Being A Tourist For A Day In New York City
Happy New Year! As the holiday season has wound down and the 12 days of Christmas have come to an end here in London, I am finding myself getting back into the swing of everyday life. To start off the New Year, I thought I’d look back on my last “trip” of 2017. I say trip in quotes because before I went home for the holidays (and tried to get everyone in my house drunk on Christmas cocktails) I spent a few days working in New York. If you’re like me, you’ve visited NYC a lot but never really did the tourist thing bc, let’s face it, how terribly uncool would that be. Well, as part of this “moved across the world” bit that I’m doing, I figured I should take advantage of traveling to a new place and the relative freeness the time zone difference and holidays afforded me. What this meant was a day off tour of some of the more popular attractions in New York City that I had never seen. Having visited New York since I was 23 with regularity, I was embarrassed at how little of the city’s sights I had seen. So with that and my intrepid NYC friend Neel as my guide, I set off on what can only be described as “a day where I didn’t sit in a chair from 11am till 7pm” (honestly couldn’t think of a better name but that was an actual fact of our day).
Tumblr media
Views like this can only be captured when your younger brother wants to walk you around his Google NYC office instead of getting any work done
Her Majesty, The Statue of Liberty
When Neel asked me what I wanted to do with my time in New York, I can almost guarantee he did not expect me to say “Let’s go to The Statue of Liberty”. That’s not exactly something a friend who has been sleeping on your couch for 1-2 weeks every year would chime in with. But, with incredibly vigor (and only two “are you sure?” questions), Neel made the arrangements for us to see Laboulaye’s masterpiece up close and personal. The ticket for the ferry to The Statue of Liberty includes a stop at Ellis Island, which I’ll cover in a bit, can be purchased for less than $20. This cost, after the experience was absolutely worth it, given the amazing experience, views and general serenity you’ll find in the midst of this massive metropolis. Upon catching the ferry at Battery Park, we were whisked away from the honking horns and tall buildings to catch a beautiful skyline view of New York and then, obviously, Lady Liberty. The ride over was short, enjoyable, scenic, and was accompanied by tourists feeding seagulls as they flocked over us (note: please don’t do this).
Tumblr media
Neither of us could believe how utterly beautifully and aggressively American this picture turned out Upon landing on Liberty Island, a quick stroll (and for us, our first meal of the day) led us to some of the most enjoyable facts and scenes about the statue. For example, the forefinger holding the torch is only about 4 feet in diameter, which led us to the question: were either of us flexible enough to actually wrap ourselves around it? We never did find this out, but if you’ve managed to pull this feat off, please let me (and the local authorities) know. As you can imagine, this area was chock full of hundreds of (mostly international) tourists, so I felt right at home as we navigated the droves of selfie sticks and families posing with babies. There’s a lot to take in without heading to the base and crown tour (which is sold out months in advance), so after our views and photos, we ventured forth to catch the Immigration Museum at Ellis Island.
Tumblr media
Shot with Neel’s incredibly superior iPhone X camera that also seems to shed 10lbs instead of adding them
Immigration: The Same Now as Then
Only a short ride from the Statue of Liberty is Ellis Island, a famous home of US immigration in the early 20th century. While you might recognize it from movies such at Hitch and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Ellis Island houses a fascinating US Immigration museum that, after a stroll through, left both of us feeling a little less cheery than before. What you can see after a quick read through of the exhibits is that, in the history of the US, immigration has never been an easy topic. The amount of times we read that the “home” team was less than excited about the new breed of immigrants arriving was astounding. It really put into perspective the current climate in the US around immigration, in that as a country, we’ve never really warmed up to outsiders, though the country is one of outsiders. I tend to avoid politics in these posts, but this was one of the few times I sat there and realized that open-mindedness is not a majority sentiment in the world today. That fact, and what I saw at that museum, made me sad. As a child of immigrants and as an expat, I’ve seen several sides of the process, from the acceptance to the bigotry. I just wonder, when, if ever, will we be happy when a group of people crosses one of these arbitrary lines we drew on the map.
Tumblr media
Inside the Reconstructed Ellis Island Immigration Hall there are plaques that show various lineages of employees of this museum which I thought was wonderful
I didn’t mean for that last paragraph to get so pointed, but as I reminisce about day walking around these New York sights, I realized it was something important to put down somewhere, even if I’m the only one to read it in the future
Moving right along, after our jaunt to these beautiful sights, Neel and I figured we could do with some mainland-Manhattan exploration. Being so far south is rare for the both of us, so we checked out what was nearby and realized, wow, a whole lot. So, off we went to some more major New York landmarks.
Herre at the Wall, Gonads and Fearlessness
Tumblr media
I wonder what really lies beneath Paddington Lane… Just a quick stroll from where the ferry dropped us off is Wall Street and the heart of the New York Financial district. In this area we caught three fairly awesome sites, some for the movie buff in me, like Trinity Church, the site of the climax of the movie National Treasure. Trinity Church is a beautiful site in the midst of the concrete jungle all around you, as it affords a little “lowness” to the rest of the enclosed feeling of this section of New York. A lovely old church, it warrants a walkthrough for a glimpse. Just a few steps from there is the famous Charging Bull of Wall Street. Completely covered by tourists and a queue to take a photo with it (and it’s incredibly unnecessary gonads), the bull represents…uh…actually I’m not sure? Maybe something about raging hormones or perseverance through obstacles or something? Fun fact, it was originally Guerilla artwork when it was installed in 1989 that got a permanent place bc the public enjoyed it so much.
Tumblr media
Ugly holiday sweater day for the charging bull
Just in front of the bull is what I would deem an appropriate response in our times to this charging animal depiction: the fearless girl. While this artwork was actually commissioned by a fund who wanted to call out it’s gender diversity (less “from the people” and more “for advertising purposes”), the meaning and symbolism in our time is something I can appreciate. When you come by this area in New York, take a gander at both of these sculptures, as now neither can really be important without the other.
Tumblr media
I don’t have anything really witty to say here, my apologies, I wrote this on a Monday
World Trade Center Memorial
When I was a kid and saw what happened on 9/11, New York felt incredibly far away. I’d never been and couldn’t relate to the city, though I knew the gravity of the situation that unfolded that Tuesday morning. Now having visited New York on so many occasions, I felt a strong desire to see the memorial that sits where the twin towers used to stand. Walking from Wall Street to the memorial is a short jaunt but a somber one, since you know years ago you’d see towering structures in the skyline guiding your way. Now, though Freedom Tower is there and a lovely, enormous reminder to the resilience of a city, you’ll find a lovely memorial to those whose lives were lost that day. This is a site that I feel is a perfect memoriam and a real, honest tribute; very few other places in downtown New York will you get such an awesome calm and near silence, generated out of a due respect from everyone visiting.
Tumblr media
Lining the edges of the memorial are the names of the people who lost their lives on or due to 9/11 and if you spot a white flower, the day you’re there is that person’s birthday
Just next to the memorial is the most confusing addition to me for this area in New York. The Occulus, aka the World Trade Center Subway Station, is a $4 billion building that looks as though an evil sci-fi villains lair was turned into a Westfield. I stood in awe of this structure only to nearly lose it when walking inside to see the mass of shops, insane architecture and general sense of “so this is what living in an accordion would look like”. After a stop at the Apple store and a roam about the Holiday Market here, Neel and I were ventured forth.
Walking, The Best Grandma Slice, and Cookies x2
With that, our sight seeing tour of New York came to an end. Instead of hitting any particular tourist spots like the High Line or Chelsea Market or Times Square (all spots I’d seen earlier), we ventured through the neighborhoods around us, seeing a swath Tribeca and SoHo. Notable stops if you’re around SoHo (and highlights of my 2017 because I’m a fat person stuck in a skinny man’s body) were Prince Street Pizza (best grandma slice I’ve ever had) and Momofuku Milk Bar (cornflakes in a cookie!?). Also on the list of stops was a SoHo sample sale and Young Artists Market . Basically, if you’re ever bored when walking around New York, you’re doing it wrong.
Tumblr media
Best place to buy cozy socks, beard wax, bow ties, totes bags, jewelry and…well, everything in between? As we left the lower side of Manhattan in search of more cookies (LeVain Bakery stole my heart this time round), I remembered why I missed New York so much. Like London, there’s always something to stumble upon in this bustling city, maybe more so here than anywhere in the world (though I can’t be sure). I always genuinely enjoy my time in New York, and this was no exception, but as an expat visiting the US after months away, this might’ve been my favorite trip. The friends, the activities, the food, the people…all these things bring a smile to my face as I write this sentence. Thanks a million to everyone I saw in NYC, but special shoutout to Neel, Such, Neha, Anjali and Aarti for opening their homes and schedules to me. If you find yourself in New York and are wondering, well, what else did I do there, you’re in luck! I put together a quick map below of all the spots I visited with my friends and family that I felt were worthy of note, including the stops on a raucous night in Brooklyn with my old college roommates. And, as always, here’s an album of the worthy photos I took on that trip
.google-maps { position: relative; padding-bottom: 75%; // This is the aspect ratio height: 0; overflow: hidden; } .google-maps iframe { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100% !important; height: 100% !important; }
But What About 2018…
Without diving into every other New Years Resolution on my list this year, travel (and subsequently this blog) are going to stay a big priority in life. What that means is that my travel dance card is slowly filling up with amazing trips to look forward to this year. So stay tuned as 2018 takes the travel of 2017 and turns it up to 11.
Until next time! Abhishek

How Grayson Allen went from young Duke star to March Madness' most hated player
Grayson Allen's no good, highly controversial, apology-filled junior year made him the consummate heel, and that’s now Duke’s burden to bare.
Grayson Allen is college basketball’s consummate heel.
His petulance makes him stand out just as much as his talent and skill and all three have contributed to a roller coaster ride of a season for the junior, whose year was supposed to be more of a fairy tale.
Of course, Allen is not rare in being a talented, white, reviled player for Duke. He can get in line behind Christian Laettner, Bobby Hurley, Steve Wojciechowski and J.J. Redick in that respect. Regardless of the differences in their actual backgrounds and their very different responses to being cast as March heels, Allen has become emblematic of the special brand of intoxicating smugness most associated with the Blue Devils.
That stereotype isn’t Allen’s doing. Duke’s a private school with an ivory tower rep that the men’s basketball team’s success only enhances. The role of Dook heel will always be there, but Allen hasn’t exactly done anything to shun it. And for those who just heard about the latest Most Hated Blue Devil you have to understand the history behind how Grayson Allen assumed the title.
This dates back to last season
As a sophomore in 2016, Allen tripped two players. He did so fairly blatantly and, in the second case, with a “who, me?” incredulous shrug in the Feb. 25th incident shown below.
It was a bad look, and as you can see in the first Feb. 8 incident, kind of a dangerous one.
As the team’s leading scorer and prospective captain, Allen knew he’d have all eyes on him and so embarked on an offseason apology tour in earnest last summer:
"I know there's never completely a blank slate,'' Grayson said. "That's going to be replayed and not forgotten about. But for me, every opportunity I get to step on the court is an opportunity to play the game again and play the game the right way.''
Allen could have been in the NBA by now. He was projected as a late first-round draft pick last season after averaging an efficient 22 points per game in the toughest conference in America. Still, he opted to return for his junior season to lead a Duke team that appeared to be historically strong.
Duke topped the preseason polls with the nation’s best recruiting class joining a strong group of returning starters. Allen was the most accomplished returning player in the sport, topping our preseason list of the top 100 best players in college basketball.
Allen broke out as a freshman in the 2015 Final Four to help Duke win a national title. With the decision to return to school, the narrative was set: Duke would again capture the national championship, and Allen would find redemption as the leader of the nation’s best team.
As we found out, some things don’t go as planned.
The third trip
In a non-conference game early in December, Allen tripped Elon’s Steven Santa Ana. It quickly became the biggest story in the sport.
youtube
He walked away mouthing “bullshit,” and exploded in what can only be described as a temper tantrum on the bench.
After the game, he gave a tearful apology. Coach K made Allen apologize in person to Santa Ana and the fallout was in motion.
Amid a media rally for punishment, Allen was suspended “indefinitely” after the game and had his team captaincy stripped. Guesses as to the suspension’s timeframe settled reasonably around three games, which would coincide with a trip to play a hot Florida State game on the road then a roadie at Louisville later that week.
Instead, Allen only sat out one game. And after Allen’s slap on the wrist he did this in his second game back.
It’s not a blatant trip, but Allen’s legs have certainly not earned the benefit of the doubt. Could you imagine the reaction if the Boston College player fell down?
Krzyzewski remained on the defensive about the punishment he doled out. In the very next game after the matchup with BC, Allen gave an FSU assistant a chicken wing as he dove into the bench diving after a loose ball.
It sure looks like Grayson Allen shoved a Florida State coach tonight: https://t.co/af8dZcvRzU http://pic.twitter.com/kIawcixl8W
— Henry Bushnell (@HenryBushnell) January 11, 2017
The coach, Dennis Gates, was very strong is his defense of Allen and wanted to leave no doubt about whether or not there were any hard feelings.
After the third trip, Allen’s entire season became a witch hunt. Each game was a referendum on his character and it came with the subtext of a disappointing performance for both himself and his team.
Neither Duke or Grayson Allen had the dream season they anticipated
This has been a season full of fits for the Blue Devils. The hype train started to derail early. Top recruit Harry Giles, who missed his senior season of high school with a torn ACL, needed another procedure on his knee before the season started. Fellow five-star freshmen Jayson Tatum and Marques Bolden also suffered injuries that kept them out the first eight games of the season.
Meanwhile, Allen failed to live up to his lofty preseason expectations, too. His scoring averaged has dropped from 21.6 to 14.1 points per game. His shooting percentage fell from 46.6% to 38.9%. His three-point shot, once a dependable part of his game, also dropped five percentage points.
It’s not entirely his fault. Duke lacked a point guard and Allen was asked to take on the role. Last season, as a shooting guard, Allen was at his best attacking the basket. Now he’s asked to set up teammates like Tatum and breakout sophomore Luke Kennard.
That’s another layer to his and Duke’s story this season — he’s not proved himself to be the best player on this team, and he might not even be the second best. As his antics took the spotlight, concern grew about the distractions being bigger than Allen’s output.
So where are we now with Allen?
Now, with a four-in-four spring to the ACC Tourney title and a leap to an NCAA 2-seed it seems like Duke’s performance might finally be outshining Allen’s buzz. Has he “been through a lot”? Sure. But the fact is Allen put himself in this situation with a repeated pattern of behavior. So in good fun, sure, we’re gonna get these jokes off. That’ll be a running thing among fans until the Blue Devils’ season ends.
"The Gipper vs. The Tripper" sign gets an A+ from me tonight. #NotreDame http://pic.twitter.com/WCCkjVwhQ4
— Ryan Schuiling (@RyanSchuiling) January 31, 2017
As far as his teammates are concerned, they aren’t exactly going to bury their guy publicly, and went on record with SB Nation at the ACC tournament supporting Allen. That support isn’t just for show. Allen hadn’t met expectations on a team who had a high ceiling coming into the season. But Duke can still win the national championship if the assembled talent rallies together.
Whether he helps or distracts, Duke will have to embrace all that’s good and bad about Grayson Allen.
