"Do you miss the time when you used to do no harm?"
Old habits.
Merc behaviour is based on a nice little comment @up-in-flames-writing left on one of my comics :)
Rambling and more silly drawings below.
Loosely based on the Solemn Vow's public blurb:
Art lovers will cherish the bust of Hippocrates, commemorating a time when the Medic still thought doing no harm was a good idea.
I am absolutely convinced that Medic carries dextrose drops with him. German pharmacies throw these after you when you buy anything at all. I went to check if this one specific brand I know of had been around since the 60s and 70s and yes, it was.
Small acts of kindness I can see Medic doing is giving everyone one of these if they are tired. I'm talking about Engineer mostly.
Or they snack on them when solving practical problems together, like during the teleporter bread tumor incident.

tumblr only lets you have up to 12 options in a poll so this is just going to have to be a normal "reblog and share in the tags" post, but anyway which entity's statements in the magnus archives are your favourites? mine are the slaughter statements, even though my favourite entities are actually the desolation and the end

Random person getting mulled to death by Dogday: GET YO FUCKN DOG BITCH
Y/n: He don’t bite.
Random person bleeding out: YES HE DO-
i mean, if said random person hadn't gotten so close to his house, the dog wouldn't be mauling them, sooooo...
and as an aside; i imagine y/n doesn't know that dogday will occasionally attack people in the woods surrounding their home when they aren't there. y/n knows him to be against violence unless it's necessary (unlike their time in the factory, where he didn't have a choice), and the closest town doesn't really deliver newspapers out in the woods. so unless they pay attention to gossip when they go to work, there's no way for y/n to figure out that the supposed "monster" in the woods mauling people is their friend and housemate. there are cougars out there, it's probably just one of those.
and they know that dogday likes to hunt deer occasionally (and he sometimes eats them all by himself), so they don't suspect anything when he comes home covered in blood. he's just a little messy, that's all. they clean him off and welcome him back in, none the wiser.

one thing i love about charles is that he's always ready to throw down. no problem is so complex it can't be solved with violence. he looked at this fucked up, illogical world of supernatural horrors beyond comprehension with its myriad complicated rules, where every entity has it's own unique vulnerability and decided that you know what? there actually is a universal solution to every problem called Bash That Thing's Fucking Head In - and it works a solid 99% of the time!
Much like he doesn't care about every lock having a unique key, he doesn't care about the specifics of defeating monsters and nightmares. Yeah he knows all about casting spells, this next one is something called MOLOTOV COCKTAIL

An interesting thing that just struck me about the raid montage in s2e1 - we don't really see Ed directly participate. At all.
He seems mostly to be just kinda...standing there, with this strikingly blank expression.
He licks frosting off a knife while everyone else is fighting, not having moved from that spot. In another raid, he lights his pipe and we can see fighting in the background, but he's not involved. Everyone else is doing the actual raid. He's not really doing anything at all, doesn't have any weapons at the ready despite how they're strapped all over him, doesn't even watch his back.
(Gif by @unearthlydust)
The closest he comes is shooting a gun, once, at someone who just fell down and had a sword sticking out his chest. If that guy wasn't already dead when he hit the floor, he was going to be soon. That shot Ed fired didn't mean much in the long run. That was performative at best.
So why do we see Ed not participating in these raids, clearly just going through the motions? I don't know about you all, but it reminds me of how, when he's trying to get the crew to mutiny on him and they're being tossed around in the storm, we see everyone else scrambling to hold onto things but Ed just spreads his arms wide, not holding onto anything. He's not even wearing shoes in this scene, so he has no traction at all.
It's like he's just waiting for random chance to kill him.
