So yes overall this introduced Li Tianchen as a character sooo welll and this is just THE MUSIC THAT PLAYS WHILE HE'S WALKING IN NOT TO EVEN MENTION THE ACTUAL CONTENT WITHIN THE SHOW ITSELFFFF.

I... don't listen to a tonnn of lofi because my brain needs ze *stimulation* to be ridiculously high (I should really just listen to the show in the background smh) but it is basically a lofi soundtrack and done soooo welll. Even without all my rewatches you can recognize the songs used for different emotional or calm moments yet in each separate use of the song it feels unique to that moment.

this is just the cutest little city pop song! it's simple and catchy and it was a real change to hear such soft voices from billlie! softer title tracks always stand out to me because they are often so so pretty and delicate and byob is so so pretty and delicate! and the lyrics... i have claimed this as an aromantic anthem, it's ours. not relating to your friends having crushes .... billlie i see u

9. Break the Brake - Xdinary Heroes

this song is just straight vibes... the loudest rock we've gotten from xdinary and I appreciate it SO much. the verses r so clean and the falsetto.. its harmonically so interesting so the noise of the chorus feels properly cathartic and doesn't feel like a loss which can sometimes happen in scream-esc choruses. It's arranged SO well to balance all these things and be stimulating while also being so emotive. AND JUNHAN WITH THOSE CRUNCHY NOTES IN HIS SOLO. the dissonance.. its so brain-sratchy

8. In Bloom - Zerobaseone

zebi brainrot is so real friends.. be careful. this song is so beautiful! i think its a perfect example of the song marrying the concept and mv and members tones so well. from literally the first minute of zb1 i was so excited about their concept of mixing natural imagery like flowers with glitchy technology imagery and i hoped the music would match... AND IT DID! its so lyrical while being crunchy and energetic. SUCH a slayful debut

7. #menow - Fromis_9

this song is sooooo pretty. epitome of a soft bop. it's a classic fromis sound but with this sense of maturity and humility that makes it so engaging and emotional. it demands to be taken seriously but still is so fun! the vocal production is next level.. the effect on their voices in the chorus so they're used like instruments... one of favourite techniques ever. i LOVE when the vocals truly feel like part of the arrangement and not just sitting on top and this song truly does that

6. Spicy - Aespa

the absolute cunt aespa serve in this song... who let them. anyone who knows me knows i'm obsessed with everything moonshine has ever made.. and so when i heard they were doing an aespa title... i went crazy. and i am so right for it. THE BASS IS INSANE?? it puts all other synth basses to shame with how in your face it is. and the crispy snare? idk how to describe this song other than cunty because she genuinely does not care about being clean or palatable... like she is In Your Face with sound. and aespa literally ate that up... they are so fun and cheeky and confident! i'm sorry this is the kind of song that only a group of baddies could handle and aespa stepped up

5. Sugar Rush Ride - TXT

txt doing disco... like you already have me at that. it's sooooo groovy and although the anti-chorus was surprising.. i'm not mad at it! I'm so happy they went into it full force with the whisper vocals and the choreo switching mood, it rly helped the genre change make sense. and the DISCOOO at the end.. bop central. the lyrics and choreo and vibes overall r just so beautiful.. what can i say i love songs about gay sex i mean forbidden love...

4. Groovy - Cravity

the funky bop of all funky bops... literally funk pop goodness! there is so much movement in this track theres so many different rhythms happening and the blend together sooo well. the dance break is perfect.. literally everything you want from a dance break with the continuation of the same sounds but a new tone to it and new rhythmic focuses. and the choreo for it literally hits ever beat you want it to and stretches out the time between them perfectlyyyy. but ultimately it is on here because is it a feel-good happy fun bop.. and she excels at it! vity makes me so happy and they are so good at making songs that make you happy

3. Galileo - Kep1er

cutest song of the year! it is so groovy and fun and danceable. it is sooo feel-good it literally makes me smile every time. thank you hiyyih for putting aegyo in a song<3 where is her nobel peace prize. this is the kind of song where you truly can't hear the music theory going on because it just does exactly what you want it to do! any tension chords are resolved perfectly where you want them to. it's the perfect example of chords from minor keys borrowed to make a song that sounds so major and happy. there is absolutely nothing i would change about this song it is sooo perfect. absolutely filled to the brim with joy

2. ROAR - The Boyz

...like literally hello? this song came out of nowhere for me i did NOT expect to be as impressed as i was like my life changed after this song. firstly the whistle.. hot and sexy and catchy. carrying it through as a motif, chopping it up, creating variations, translating it to a singable vocal line... all of that is SO impressive to be able to pull off. crunchy track underneath.. beautiful. but what is most impressive to me about this song is the topline. the vocals are literally insane.. chanhee and hyunjae have my favourite tbz voices and u are crazy if u don't agree that they r the main characters of this song. some of those chorus lines are So high and they can sing them in a way that sounds so effortless. and the backing vocals... the Incredibly high harmony in the choruses makes me want to scream (it's jacob i think.. jail). and there is just voices Everywhere.. everywhere theres little 'ahs' hidden around and it not only fits the songs sexy concept in such a natural way but it just fills up every bit of space in the song. and the lyrics... once again i love a song about ..*checks notes* forbidden love.. that is damned by heaven... definitely not about gay sex tho .. definitely not..

1. Chill Kill - Red Velvet

second moonshine on the list .. no one is suprised. i think this song has complimented red velvet's two sides of creepy and feel-good the most successfully. the tone shift from the verses to the chorus is so obvious... but seamless. and what does it is the harmony! the chords are perfect... it seems redundant to talk about rv vocals but they rly just make the song. and the outro... blending both vocal parts of the chorus together.. it sounds epic. it adds to both the happy and creepy by sounding like a group of friends together.. but also cult-y with all that creepiness still lingering. singing 'forget about your sorrow' with the happiest voices like the verses weren't filled with creepy minor sounds... literally gaslighting queens. this song is terrifying and also the most joyful (hi sooyoung 😘) experience to listen to.... only the dream team of moonshine cazziopeia and red velvet can manage that. and it's no surprise this dream team gets my no.1 spot!

And oh, excellent question! The answer is yes, there are a few! So, there are actually a few threads throughout part 6 that lead directly on from part 5, and one of the things that gets mentioned related to this is Gabriela's rec list of songs. On that list, there's a song called Monolith by Twin Pumpkin, which particularly resonates with some things that are going through the Doctor's head in part 6 (it's also a song I found on an instagram fanvid for spyfall part 2 which i cannot find for the LIFE of me, which is a shame because i absolutely LOVED it). I actually also really love this acoustic cover of the song that I literally just discovered hahaha

There's also an album called Hospice by The Antlers that gets mentioned at one point during the fic - and this one is an interesting one because the only reason I included a song from it on the playlist in the first place was because the song was called Thirteen haha - but then listening to the album, I realised that it REALLY resonates with what happens in this story, especially the backstory stuff for the Doctor. There's a track called Two which is scarily on the nose lyrics-wise in places, and in fact the title for part 8 will be taken from that track. The trick with this song is figuring out which lyrics are relevant and which ones aren't haha, as well as which ones are exactly right, which ones are sort of metaphorically right and which ones are about different characters hahaha. There's also this BEAUTIFUL cover on youtube that I also recommend because it gives it quite a different vibe and I love it so much. But yeah so whilst this song doesn't specifically come up in part 6, if you want a song for theorising, this is the song.

And then finally, there's Upward Over the Mountain by Iron & Wine which....I can't really say what this one is about until I get to the chapter where listening to it whilst writing made me cry hahah. But it's another important one for this au.

what if project sekai x aikatsu collaboration is real??????

okay so ujm my head keeps thinking what if a pjsk x aikatsu collab happen like what songs they would cover and possible cards, sooo i decided to make this little kinda "what if" post! I will imagine what songs units will cover, possible duets and more!!! (also note im just doing ogkatsu ichigo-akari gen cuz i havent rly watched much of the others, plus im most familiar with ogkatsu)

Lets start with imagining this collab is a big collab, and it has cards featuring aikatsu characters and all (i will explain this at the end of the music discussion!) its such a big collab that it lasts two weeks or perhaps two events (one for ichigo gen, and the other for akari gen maybe) which means there should be 10 collab cards, three gacha cards and two event cards for each event (the usual pjsk 2* will be replaced with a 3*) as for the songs, lets say each unit release 1 unit cover, 1 unit duet and 5 cross duet with unique characters which means 15 songs!!! and there might be dupe songs where it appears in 2 units or more... thats just be struggling to decide who should cover it lols

before i start doing the music let me tell you how it works! I will seperate the covers into 3 categories: Unit cover, a song sang by the unit (no vocaloids). Unit duet, 1-2 from the same unit sings together with the original singer of the song, ex: minori x akari with song A or minori, haruka x akari, sumire with song B. And lastly crossover duet/crossduets! Its a duet between 2 characters from a different unit with the original singer of the song, something like the cup noodle collab songs that was sung by the siblings from different units! ex: mafuyu, emu x yurika, kaede with song C. I will mostly pay attention to how the songs fits the characters/units aesthetic and how much their voice match the song! I wont be basing them off the lyrics much though. i will be listing 3 possible songs for unitcover and unitduet, while the crossduet will most likely be random thoughts. Now lets start :3

Okay so I was taking a break from work and read your story of ‘A Family of choice’ again. I still love the fic and you are so good! And it’s amazing! And like this is so unprompted but like I couldn’t help but think of a song that fits so fucking well with it. And I just want to say it so badly because like god that song fits the vibes of this fic and I NEED to tell you. Okay that sounded like I was shouting but I wasn’t sorry if you felt attacked by that lol. Alright so the song is titled Funeral Home and it’s by the band called Yours Truly. Legit couldn’t stop thinking about it while I was reading the fic. you're so sweet! project sunshine is literally the one writing project that I've dedicated this much time too, mostly just because I'm so fascinated by the other kids of hawkins lab and what they're lives would be like! also I think steve is just a complex character and it’s really, really fun to write his perspective on things. I nearly have the rest of season 3 written and lemme tell you it’s a wild ride lol; there’s a lot more coming. dustin and steve are literally brothers! and I’m really excited to get even more into that in the story. same with sunshine and dustin- as well as the rest of the kids left in hawkins. they’re all just one big found family <3 writing the twins has been so fun too! same with tamera and calum, who are like these really confusing sherlock holes/scooby doo type pair. there’s a lot more in store with them too and everything revolving around calum’s father and his ties to the lab and dr. brenner. but seriously, thank you for this whole ask! I’m really happy other people beside me enjoy my silly little stories

i’m gonna write a review on greatest hits because i love it and it’s my comfort album from now on and i feel like writing a whole ass essay

so let’s start reviewing each song (the reviews get better as you go)

greatest hits: i think it is a great intro, and it really gives you a taste of what the album is like. i like the repeating line, and how the beat changes a bit every time, i really enjoyed it honestly. but i don’t really see it as a track, so i hear it when listening to the album, but don’t add it to playlists.

fuzzy: i loved fuzzy SO much. the guitar riff killed me. the EFFECTS. i love every aspect of it so much. the little brrr is so awesome as well. i love the general vibes of it, it makes me want to dance and sing and just everything. it’s amazing and such a good way to start the album. the buildups are so well done as well.

lowkey as hell: honestly, i loved lowkey as hell when it came out, but as soon as they released snow globe i just kinda forgot about it. i think it was a good single to start with, with all the teasing and leaking and stuff. but it left me with kinda low expectations, since i had just gotten into them when it came out, and i expected more based on their older stuff (i’m such a FANDOM stan istg). but i guess it was a good thing, because i was pleasantly surprised when the other singles came out.

numb: this song made it to my top ten one day after it came out. i listened to it every single day and memorized the lyrics in less then two hours. it legit makes me wanna burn something down. i love it so much. the lyrics are so well written and it always puts me in such a good mood.

violet!: i can’t even put into words how much i love this track. ok first let’s mention the TRANSITION. it’s so smooth and well done and i’m addicted to it. and the song itself has such good vibes and is just adorable generally. since it came out it has been all i’ve listened to (so like two days) and i love it so muchhhhh. i admit i woke myself up at three am just so i could listen to it and dance around.

snow globe: i think this was the single i liked the most. the lyrics are so well written and amazing. i love the general beat and the start is so amazing. (that guitar in the begging tho) and i was soooo excited when it came out. awsten’s voice is so soothing in it as well. i just really love snow globe.

just kidding: i love the lyrics. i think the beat and chorus are a bit weak compared to the other songs, but the verses and the “i like your apartment, i like how your hair smells” is awesome, and i guess it makes sense that the beat is a bit calmer and less developed considering the meaning of the song. but the VERSES and the harmonies are amazing.

the secret life of me: this is probably the most relatable one for me, but i’d rather not compare my life to songs and awsten’s feelings. it’s his song, not mine. moving on, the fast paced beat hooks me so well, and how his voice somehow fits and doesn’t at the same time?? i love it. and the chorus is so catchy and amazing. “real life never feels it’s mine” “i keep my eyes wide, shut”???? a literal lyrical god????like cmon

american graffiti: love the more punk rock vibes, the guitar is soooo good and otto with the drumsss. i love this track so much. “if you need me i’m here, no” foreshadowing much? i’m so addicted. the small beat build ups that lead to the chorus are sooo smart. i can never get enough of the band’s harmonies and background music.

paranoid: there’s no way i’m typing the whole title. i’m not sure what i was expecting when they announced the single, but it surely wasn’t that. starting out with the chorus was such a good choice for this track. it literally hit me in the face multiple times and then stabbed me three times. and i thanked it. and kissed it. i love it

fruit roll ups: this is such a cute song. the more chill and slow vibes comparing to the chaos of paranoid is such a good move, it is like a little break after a marathon. the little beats at the end make the serotonin machine go brrrr

LIKE IT: THIS SONG. THIS FUCKING SONG. i can’t even explain it. it’s fucking fire. i love it more than i love myself and my entire family and friends. it owns my soul and i will burn a building down while it plays and i dance and flip off the police.

gladiator: love it love it love it. the beat????is so good????while he talks??????? like sir???? you are so musically talented and i love you???? great song, great track, awesome interlude and gives a little 🤌 to the album yknow

magnetic: so this one was probably the one i was the most curious about, with all the emojis and stuff. i’m soooooo in love with every aspect of it. the badass energy, the beat changes, the riffs, the lyrics, everything. it’s such a “i will kill you, but don’t hate me” song somehow. it was definitely better than i expected.

crying over it all: he just loves to see me suffer i guess. thanks for putting this after a badass song that makes me feel on the top of the world. it’s such an amazing track tho. i love the build up, the beat drops and background changing while he calmly sings. everything about it is so endearing.

ice bath: i- don’t know what to say. i mean, it’s a great track, but i don’t know how i feel about it. go off bestie ig. but how it starts with greatest hits and then distorts into something darker and heavier???? that’s musical intelligence right there

see you in the future: probably my favorite track that wasn’t released before. the changes and awsten becoming a rap god out of nowhere??? and the nod to paranoid??? so amazing. i’m obsessed with the beat and the quickening. the interlude???? i LIVE for otto’s drum solo at the end this song makes me wanna jump so bad. i’d kill to see it live.

overall, i love the album more than anything else. the diversity of the tracks, how it goes from calm to chaos to sad to happy to even more chaotic and somehow fits perfectly together. it was so well produced. i can tell the band and their crew worked really hard on it, and they really are the greatest hits. i’m so proud of it, and i’m glad awsten is so excited and proud of something he released. every aspect of this album hooks me so well, and it really is a musical masterpiece.

ok so these are my second listen thoughts now i’m beginning to be able to form sentences again! first things first i love all the songs so here we go

willow: so cute gosh i love so many of the individual lines and love how it can be interpreted in lots of ways (also loved the video!) - definitely feels like a grower, same as how with cardigan i was initially like “wow great song!” and now i’m like that song owns my entire soul

champagne problems: put this at the bottom of my predicted rankings based on the title because i don’t drink and am uninterested in songs about getting drunk but as soon as it started playing i was like well that was wrong i love it. absolutely love the concept (already discussed it but it gave me all my rory/logan shipper rights) and it’s just beautiful but also “she would’ve made such a lovely bride, what a shame she’s fucked in the head” SCREAM

gold rush: lyrically/thematically reminds me a lot of “everybody wants you” by red hearse which is interesting because that’s one of jack’s projects and that always reminded me of taylor’s lyrical style. also “the coastal town we wandered round had never seen a love as pure as it” love that line sooo much!!!

tis the damn season: mmm love this concept! “there’s an ache in you put there by the ache in me” is poetry!! she really said cheesy hallmark christmas movie about a city girl coming home and reigniting an old flame over the holidays but make it a masterpiece

tolerate it: when i first heard the opening lines i thought this might be about andrea in that idea of carefully watching someone and them being older and wiser and yourself feeling like a child... but obviously it’s not! gives me big dear john vibes. the concept of having so much love to pour into someone and them just tolerating it is absolutely heartbreaking

no body no crime: ok!!! she really popped off with this one!!! love the drama of the intro with the sirens and the “he did it” whisper. love the storytelling and the haim feature. gives me big country vibes actually, specifically reminds me of something the chicks might write.

happiness: “there’ll be happiness after you, but there was happiness because of you. both of these can be true.” is such a beautiful concept i really love that line. also this feels like one of her most mature songs ever. the way she acknowledges we made it each other happy but we also hurt each other but one day we will be happy again and will be able to be happy for each other. also the gatsby reference of the beautiful fool and the green light?? ok literary queen

dorothea: this is the first and only one so far that i connected with another song because i was straight away like oh she’s totally the one coming home in tis the damn season! very sweet, also i have a little sister called dorothea who’s only three but one day i will have to play it for her so i’m glad dorothea gets quite a nice story

coney island: so beautiful and interesting!! feel like i need to live with this one for a while to truly appreciate all its intricacies but taylor and matt’s voices are lovely together

ivy: honestly after two listens i can only vaguely remember it sounding soft and nice but i didn’t pick up on any of the lyrics, i think i need more time to appreciate it on its own. interesting reading the lyrics that it has illicit affairs type vibes

cowboy like me: was expecting this to be a bit more overtly yeehaw but still great. feels like an alternative/country version of getaway car 🤠

long story short: fun change of tempo! love this new take on the Bad Time and “no more keeping score, now i just keep you warm, and my waves meet your shore ever and and evermore” is just lovely!!

closure: the production on this is kinda stressful to listen to skdfnsdknf idk don’t really have other thoughts on this one? feels a bit less lyrically rich than the others

white dress: i looooove this as an opening track, the breathy voice is perfect and the song sets the tone for the whole album, both vocally and lyrically. the chorus is super catchy and got stuck in my head from the first listen (which was before the album came out hehe), i adore the look how i do this, look how i got this part. downatthemaninmusicbusinessconferece kinda makes me laugh but at the same time it’s iconic and different. also, i wish i could keep this for myself but i feel compelled to say that the way she sings down in orlANdo reminds me of sweet brown’s i got bronCHithis fgkgkkg so yeah funny AND iconic sums it up.

chemtrails over the country club: this was by far my fave single, although i wasn’t obsessed w it at first as i got after listening to it within the album. from the first line, it just makes your stomach twist in that bittersweet way. i love the laid back production, the lyrics are poignant and gorgeous (there’s nothing wrong contemplating god, i’m not unhinged or unhappy i’m just wild) and i adore how mundane stuff meets poetic imagery, plus the astrology references... not to mention how brave it is to wanna share those placements (jk, no hate). the different vocals, the falsetto, the layering... it’s just so good. also this might be an unpopular opinion but i think the title is genius and i absolutely support this as a title track.

fave lyrics: you’re in the wind, i’m in the water / nobody’s son, nobody’s daughter

let me love you like a woman: i think the opening promises more than what the song delivers, especially the chorus is maybe a bit underwhelming? but tbh after a few listens it grew on me too, i love the high notes and the lyrics are sweet. the first line remains my fave part tho, the way she delivers it... also the verses in general, simple and honest and kind of bratty (i guess i could manage if you stay / its just if you do, i can’t see myself having any fun, so), i can’t not love it.

wild at heart: this one gives me old lana vibes, like somewhere between ultraviolence and honeymoon, especially the verse – i’m just obsessed w it. the chorus sounds a lot like some other songs of hers, maybe a little too much for me to enjoy it completely (esp mariner’s apartment complex, her vocal runs sound exactly the same??). anywayyy it’s just a very beautiful song. at first i wasn’t particularly bewildered by this album, like i recognised quality but that was it, but after a few listens i have to say it’s impressive how consistently good the songs are.

fave lyrics: i love you lots like polka dots / you’re killing me more

dark but just a game: the hidden gem of the album, competes w tulsa jesus freak for the n.1 spot in my heart, actually maybe it holds it rn, i’m just stunned by it. it almost sounds like lizzy grant’s repertoire, but with lana’s maturity and nonchalance. simply a gorgeous reflection on fame. both musically and lirically i just find it impeccable.

not all who wander are lost: ok this might be my least fave (spoiler: with the cover), it’s pretty and the lyrics are good, maybe slightly basic? and it just doesn’t stick w me, it kinda sounds like a poem slightly sung? the background music is maybe too feeble and there’s no memorable melody, if it makes sense. however, the look at me, look at you part elevates it quite a bit. (i mean, it’s no ‘how you like that’, but i liked it)

Sara Deserves Better

It's six in the morning, and I am mad!

Mad because of a small thing admittedly, but you want a sum up?

I'm mad because I hyped myself up to write a MSA/Tadeo Jones crossover oneshot that would basically be Vivi being excited to meet an actual living Mummy, with other things, but the majority... and then started thinking beyond that small scope of fun and just-- got frustrated.

Because here's the thing... I made a post about Vivi and her glasses, and then started thinking about the crew in Tadeo Jones and--

Like here's the deal, my brain... just... completely forgot Sara has glasses. I remembered Tiffany's glasses. I remembered the PHOTO with glasses-- but the first ten minutes of Sara's screen time being spent with her in glasses? NAH--

Sooo that's not actually what this post is about. Just a small annoyance with myself. So what is this post about-- well the obvious is look at the title, Sara Deserves Better.

Also, not just shipping wise... but mainly shipping wise, because GOD DAMN IT. Let Sara break free of the Love Interest box PLEASE. Because for crying out loud, it's been two movies and this is one of the most painful flaws I can see. Also-- just as an aside, I really, really want to like Sara but right now... she's stuck in that box so much she's honestly kind of... bland and boring to watch.

Also just--

In general. I want to say something that's just, my BIG gripe and the reason I come bearing this rant but...

Vivi.

VIVI is why I'm making this RANT!

And you want to know why? It's because in the approximately 16 odd minutes of the Mystery Skulls Animated vidoes we get-- SO MUCH information about who she is and what she stands for as a character. WE HAVE SO MUCH TO WORK WITH. Hell even in the brief flashback sequence, there's a lot to analyse and unpack-- she's not just reduced to-- Lewis' former girlfriend despite how easily that could have been the case. Which-- I mean, I have... a number of rants for Vivi in the works... beyond just my MBTI analysis that's already up...

BUT conversely... and maddeningly-- I can't say the same for Sara. Between the two movies if there is one character who feels kind of... empty aside overtures, or rather underdeveloped... it's Sara.

Which is a crying shame. But there's two movies of content and I still only have the vaguest idea of WHO she really is as a person. Oh I know who she is. But... I don't really know Who she is.

Like, seriously... the closest we get to some glimpses is this opening of movie 2, some scenes in movie one, and her moment with Mummy.

Which... I have other things to talk about regarding this... a more proper analysis regarding her verses Tadeo on these events... BUT THAT'S ANOTHER ANALYSIS.

Also what moments from Movie 1?

How's about priorities?

ALSO, I have some things to say about Tadeo's response to this... but that's ALSO deserving of it's whole own analysis and it really wouldn't be fair... And aside this... well again... moments.

Which... I still don't actually have much, but these are sort of... the moments with the most character from Sara. OH, aside from when she's with Tiffany, and arguably-- when alone and kidnapped with Rackham... which, huh-- That would bring me to another point honestly... but this isn't actually my "Making your Villain Memorable" rant. ALTHOUGH-- The Rackham stuff and Tiffany will need to be addressed.

I want to talk about the moments I currently have first. Which aren't... precisely in order, but I think they're in order of the impact for me.

Which first moment is when Tad's sacrificing his father's cufflink, his greatest treasure. Giving it to Mummy, and again-- I have many words... but what's telling is Sara's reaction and how that kind of ties into the significance there. Because overall it just says-- well, it says how deeply she's affected seeing it as well-- Which isn't something you see much in these movies unfortunately.

The next moment I would like to call the "I sense bullshit radar". Considering how she finds Tad's story initially a bit flawed, also laying out the law, starting to plan. Sara has a head on her shoulders and is NO FOOL.

UNTIL SHE IS.

And I think only HALF of this final highlight moment can be blamed on the situation because heyyyy--

Let's circle around to the Rackham stuff. And... other movie 2 stuff.

Which, I know this miiiight be arbitrary or not really something that can be linked. BUT there's a difference in how she handles these moments... And hell, I would also add the opening to movie 2-- but Sara has... levelled her head A LOT more when it comes to handling potentially life threatening danger between movies. In what information she grabs(opening) and then in the above scene, what she actually lets the villain learn.

Which also, anyone else get a short circuit feeling from that?

And hell, even as much as I have issues with the whole sequence of events and a SPOILER filled rant about it...

Even here, again. Pretty chill, pretty level. At best/worst it's really stunned silence. But this scene has a number of issues and I have a rant that will go up after a fic(if I can just keep myself long enough to WRITE that fic...). And just... well--

Then the last thing is-- well Tiffany.

Also... just generally on this second screencap here, I like to just-- talk about the moment before as well-- since there's something just... Really wild in what leads to it.

Like... why does she look SO CONFUSED?! Like-- I don't know if I'm the only one who sees this, but when Rackham first shows up... she looks so confused, like how could he get there so quickly?! And then Tiffany steps out and there's that shocked expression and it gives off this sense that just-- When Tiffany stormed off Sara knew but she didn't know. Like you ever have those moments-- where you know someone's going to make a bad decisions... and yet-- you're still SHOCKED by how bad a decision they make?

Yeah, that's Sara here... and she's... been trying with Tiffany.

But still... yeah.

And what does all this ultimately add up to?

Sara still being too broad in the long of it.

BECAUSE IT TOOK ME A GOOD HOUR, OR TWO, Of ranting and discussing this with some friends for me to dig out these moments and I STILL don't have a solid, solid character for Sara. And do you know why?

Because of the one FATAL FLAW...

Forced

Romance

...And when I say forced romance, I really, really mean it. Do you know what one of my BIGGEST COMPLAINTS of movie 2 is. It's that when Sara gets mad, or feels like she should be mad, it's not allowed to hold. It's just glossed over. And then of course, complaint two is the other obvious thing. Sara feels... as if she's just there to dispense the plot and then to be kidnapped.

She spends the first two and a half quarters of the movie kidnapped, and even after only gets the barest amount of screen time. Hell she had MORE to do in movie 1, and that's probably because the plot was broader and gave them all time to shine with action, even if she still felt-- hard.

Like seriously, does-- any of these moments stand out on their own? Without a number of rewatches and forcing my focus to actually be on Sara to analyse... not really. It all blends and blurs because of one big thing that EATS up her character and forces it into that kind of bland box.

She's forced and pushed to fit the lens of the love interest. With Tad's chasing-- and how that impacts the story.

And I'd also like to complain about ANOTHER thing in this similar vein but...

In movie one there's a sequence I... haven't really brought up in this rant, along with in general how Sara is there-- because here's the thing. Aside the glimpses... she... really feels like a PROP a lot of the time. In both movies. But-- in movie 1 there are a few moments specific.

And the first is actually the train moment with Kopponen. Sara was definitely NOT going to hand the tablet over...

But of course, Tad had to SCREW UP trying to be a hero... and for the rest of the sequence it feels a lot like Sara's only purpose is to more or less be grabbed and damselled again... And even later on, it feels like Wasted Potential--

Like, she's used to motivate other characters--

Which okay... I'm not going to say that Vivi is excused from, since that's who I'm comparing her with... BUT there's a DRASTIC difference of character agency in HOW and why they are used as motivation between them.

Might not on the surface seem like much of a difference--

Especially in the immediate context that's offered here with how Lewis is using the picture in his locket and the implied additional angle to his attempted revenge against Arthur-- which, mind you-- there's a HELL of a lot more going on there... BUT-- When it comes to the ACTION... not just that moment up higher... but when there's actual ACTIVE danger...

Come Hellbent... And Shiromori...

Meanwhile with Sara the best we have across both movies... is moments. She handles herself in the opening of the sequel and-- well we actually have the climbing sequence to the final temple... which... I have-- words about as well, but the big ones right now is actually in the choice of lyrics playing over what--

But...

Sara actually only gets the "Now I'm Invincible" stuff-- or the Majority of it. There might be the more romance stuff, but for the most part-- she's pretty much being defined as "Invincible on her own" which also... yeah. It's true. The strongest moments for Sara are those moments when she's on her own, and away from the Tadeo drama... or even when she was used to motivate her Dad's actions in the first movie.

Which... actually makes me circle back to something that just... doesn't fit.

"It's been the most amazing adventure. All these days with you. I wouldn't trade that for the world. I... I love..."

WHICH LOOK

Isn't Sara supposed to be the expert on the whole of what this movie is about? King Midas' Collar and Golden Touch, this was her long term project. So why is it that in this scene she's forgotten all that she's supposedly studied and why they're even here? Like does anyone else get death confession vibes from this, which... considering Sara should know this is supposed to be reversible?!

Because forced romance plot.

I mean, I have more to say, but honestly... at this point I'm running out of ways to properly articulate my points. But in the end... what can I say about Sara now that I'm at the end of my rant? You know, beyond FREE HER FROM THE ROMANCE PLOT....

Well, actually a lot more than I expected or thought at the start... And that's because now I've been through and watched with focus on her. Although some of it still had to be informed and given to me.

Which yeah--

Sara is an expert in her own field, supposedly anyway. Which, let's be fair, that's not her fault, that's plot mandated information failures.

She's Peruvian, which, I think is established in the first movie, that's her home. And where she's grown up, but it's really not made clear in either movie. Or at the least, not as clear as it should be. PLEASE GIVE HER MORE PERUVIAN PRIDE I SWEAR--

She is clearly much, much more impressed by Tadeo when he's being humble and honest. Like just damn. Those are the traits she respects and what's to see.

Sara actually respects and listens to other people, she's patient with them and hears out what they have to say. And this... isn't just with Mummy in that scene, but also she's patient with Tiffany and-- I do have more to say on that... but again, another post.

She is definitely in this for knowledge and awareness than necessarily results. She's not chasing fame.

Honestly, she shines so, so much better when there's NO ROMANCE, and really is a strong women on her own. Doesn't need anyone.

Has chased after her father's recognition, in the same field, to having the same issue of leaving behind those she cares for... Time is limited you know.

Which yeah... okay. Sara, definitely deserves better!

Genre: Pop

My analysis overall: I loved it. It’s different from their old stuff while still giving the same vibe. There are a LOT of love songs, which makes sense for a pop-boy-band but I liked when they threw in songs like “Rollercoaster” where it’s more about the brothers relationship and how far they’ve come.... but yeh know that may just be me. Anyway, we stan.

Sucker:

- I’ve always loved this song

- perfect first single

- Beat is so good and the lyrics are stuck-in-your-head catchy

What it’s about - Being a mess because of someone you love

Best lyric - “I'm a sucker for all the subliminal things

No one knows about you”

Cool:

- This single is a good contrast to first

- The allusions to everything from Queen to Game of Thrones are wonderful (especially since Joe is married? to Sansa)

What it’s about - feeling yourself lol

Best lyric - “When I grow up, I wanna be just like me”

Only human:

- opening beat is so goooood

- Album title in the lyrics

- Whatever that instrument is, it’s fun (sorry I was only a choir nerd)

- The chorus gradually moves up the scale and that part is real ~ quali-tea ~

- We got that album title in there again

- The chorus has an avicii vibe

- Definitely more of a dance bop

- Pre-chorus transition from slow verse to boppy chorus is wonderful

My Top 10 K-Pop Songs of 2019

For this list I'm only focusing on title tracks because there are so many b-sides I loved this year that it needs a separate list (although i don't think I'm gonna do one because I tend to prefer b sides on an album and it would take forever lol). Also I'm trying to do one song per group/artist in an effort to make it easier as well. Alright SO here we go:

10. Loca by Favorite

I stumbled across this song/group honestly and they impressed me so much. I checked out the mini album and the whole thing is sooo good. Hope more people give them a chance and that we'll get to see more from them soon.

9. Gotta Go by Chungha

Honestly this one grew on me after a few listens and after that I was obsessed. Also that shoulder move in the choreo gets me every damn time. Iconic.

8. Moonlight Aria by Ariaz

Another song I stumbled upon and bitch I was BLOWN AWAY. I just love the whole vibe and it sounds like they have some strong vocals in the group. The fact this was their debut is crazy.

7. Butterfly by Loona

Stan Loona. Nothing else needs to be said.

6. Birthday by Somi

This has been my shit since it came out. It's so fun and fucking catchy my god. And the way the BEAT drops?? Still recovering

5. Psycho by Red Velvet

They just HAD to swoop in last fucking minute and drop an absolute BOP huh?? Just the vocals in the first 3 seconds put me six feet under okay.

4. Lion by (G)I-DLE

They tore this shit up for Queendom like jeezus. Anything I could want in a song this has it.

3. In The Fall by Hwasa/Woogie

I said this before but I have played the shit out of this song constantly since it came out. It's so calming and has helped with my anxiety a lot this year I love it so much. Hwasa's voice is healing man I'm telling you.

2. Feel Special by Twice

Not only do I love the way this sounds but the lyrics are great. Such a sweet message especially given Mina's situation and everything. I thought nothing from them would top Fancy for me but I've never been more happy to be wrong in my life.

1. Piri by Dreamcatcher

SOTY hands down for me. From the moment I heard it pretty much. I have never had to pause a video so frequently in my life and it truly was just because I was so overwhelmed by the song itself. Seriously @budgetmercy can confirm that a song has never had me so shook. Should have had their first win for this masterpiece (and for Deja Vu but we all know this). Sincerely hope that will change for them in 2020 but until then I have no doubt Dreamcatcher will continue being one of the best active groups right now.

ok, first of all, a big thank you to @jongin-be-my-jagi and @kiseokris who both tagged me for doing this or a similar tag game about naming 10 songs. and i’m a little sad i didn’t have the chance to do this earlier but goodness life is stressful right now and i wanted to do this properly - like a recommandation list with links and what i love about the song / what i connect with it - to make myself happy again ... and what could be more effective for making me happy than my favourite music ^^

so here i go, pls enjoy these pieces of my heart, of who i am<3

1.  My December - by Linkin Park

Lately one of my most heared songs because I can’t wait for winter to come. To me, it really sounds like December, like having nothing to call home anymore, like regret and sadness and loneliness. I love Linkin Park when they do all the aggressive stuff but this heavy calmness suits them so well to and gives me chills. Also: Rest In Peace, Chester, I’ve thought about you everyday recently.   

2. hostage - by Billie Eilish

This song reflects how I think being in this odd state where you know that the other is kinda in love with you too but you’re not a couple yet feels like. It has something hesitant and inexperienced to its sound and the lyrics feel so intimate to me. I can imagine my first relationship feeling like this song. And I love how they play with acoustic and electronic instruments here, the heavy bass really catches me.

3. Lieblingsbeatle - by Sarah Lesch

For all my non-German readers, a little piece of German music. The title means “Favourite Beatle” as in your favourite member of The Beatles. The main part says “You ask for my favourite Beatle and I don’t know what to say. Because you are my favourite Beatle - and your not even in the band!” And I just love this thought: loving somebody so much that they become your favourite member of a group you like when they aren’t even part of the group. It’s so cute and I’m a little salty that I didn’t think of this metaphor myself. xD

4.  Sail Away With Me - by Sunrise Avenue

Sunrise Avenue was the first band I really really hyped (I went to three concerts within three years) and this song is a rather unknown one from their second album which was the least popular actually. But I love the lyrics and its meaning and the melody. Listening to it (which I do quite often these days) brings me back to the third and last Sunrise Avenue concert I went to, where they played a best off selection of all their songs with a huge orchestra, back to the moment I realized they were going to play this song even though it's not a popular one. It was just beautiful.

5. You Can’t Rely - by Counterfeit (also: It Gets Better)

This is my absolute favourite song of this group - I can never get enough of it!!! NEVER!!! Really, I love the tension it holds and the raging feeling, a kind of helplessness and also faithlessness. But the special thing about this band is that they are all SUPER positive. I went to their concert this summer and usually punk bands are quite aggressive and full of rage on-stage - like their music is - but they gave off so many positive vibes and contentness, not in a boring way, it was still very energetic, but it was still different than you would imagine after hearing their music. On this concert they also played the second song I linked (I know... it’s about ten songs only... anywayyy...), which has a very beautiful message I want to pass on to you in case you’re feeling down.

6. The Sufferer - by Paradise Lost

I think this song sums up my “bad days/nights” quite well, when I feel insecure and anxious and somehow try to get it down to paper - sometimes I just feel like I could write these exact words. Other than that, it’s a song my Dad showed to me and also the first song by that group I could sing along better than him, who knows this group for ... well, longer than I do, definitely. My Mom laughed at that when she noticed. xD 

7. moonchild - by RM

Aaaand here we are in the K-Pop part of this list. I don’t really stan BTS that much, but my sister does and she showed that song to me and I instantly loved it. Again, it’s the message behind it that I love most and, honestly, it sounds just beautiful, everything about it, Namjoon’s rapping, the autotune in the chorus, ... everything is on point here. Also, yeessss Namjoon would be my bias in BTS but I only know them from their English fails (they are so cute xDD) so how would I know (but I think my sister would’ve said Namjoon too if she’d have to choose a bias for me).

8. Heart Attack - by EXO-K and EXO-M

APPRECIATE THE EXO-M VERSION I DIDN’T PUT THE LINK THERE FOR NOTHING, thanks. Now that I made my love for EXO-M clear, I can write about Heart Attack. It was actually one of the first songs by EXO I’ve heard when I was a teeny-tiny Baby EXO-L and I’ve loved it instantly (it has a huge revival recently). As far as I can remember it was the first time for EXO to use hearable autotune which fits the song sooo much. I love the intro and the lyrics and I hate how little lines Kris has in that one. Still, I wish EXO could bring this song back on stage (also Let Out The Beast btw) - I could really imagine it as an acoustic version at this point. Sooo SM employees... if one of you reads this... just an idea........

9. Sing For You - by EXO

I’m never not obsessed with Sing For You. It’s basically in every song tag I ever did, that’s how important this song is to me. I just love the concept of expressing feelings with music, probably because this is what I do all the time. Music is really my language for any emotion at this point. So of course the idea of someone singing for you to tell you what they feel brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard this utterly beautiful song.  

10. Nothing Else Matters - by Metallica

And here’s the other song I never stop being obsessed about. I think I said it multiple times already, but I will say it again: This song is the definition of love for me. This is how I expect love to be like, to feel like, to sound like. About the lyrics, they are very intimate and vulnerable, as if somebody opened themselves for someone else with these words. And don’t get me started about the music itself. GOD THIS IS SO GOOD. The amount of beautiful guitar parts is just right, the intro sounds so soft and calm while the music gets heavier and heavier throughout the song. And it’s so amazing how James Hetfield’s voice can do both in one song too. Still, if I ever get married, this song will be the one I to marry to.
