Why was Mercenary chosen for the henchfolk cards in OTJ instead of Minion? Thank you for answering our questions sir.

We support Minion in that we haven't changed it from the cards that have it, but we don't use it on new cards anymore. With the exception of three cards in Commander 2019 that were redone legendary creatures that were originally Minion (Chainer, K'rrik, and Xantcha), we haven't printed Minion on a card since Legions in 2003 (21 years ago!)

The Legends of Modern Horizons 3 (fan fiction thread)

It has come to my attention that Modern Horizons 3 showcases a lot of cool characters yet doesn't give them any lore. So I will do it. Feel free to add your own lore for the characters (if anyone else actually sees it)

I will add I will not being doing lore on returning characters. So no Breya, Kaalia, Ashling, Laelia, Rosheen, K'rrik, or any of the planeswalkers or Eldrazi.

Starting off with everyone's favorite bird, Nadu, WInged Wisom

Imskir Iron-Eater

If I have K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth out and cast Vraska, Betrayal's sting, spending life for the phyrexian mana symbol, can I elect to have her enter with her full loyalty by electing to pay 2 life using K'rrik's abiliy rather than the 2 life mode for phyrexian mana? Or does Compleated only care if I spent life for that mana symbol, and not how I did so?

Compleated only very specifically cares if you chose the inherent life payment option for the card's Phyrexian mana symbols. If you pay life to cast the card in other ways, such as through K'rrik or Bolas's Citadel, the planswalker will enter the battlefield with its printed starting loyalty. The loyalty reduction is specifically linked to how you pay that phyrexian mana symbol. If you don't pay it somehow, then there's no loyalty reduction.

Fun magic trivia fact: Jumpstart 2022 is the first set since original ice age to introduce any new snow cards but not introduce any cards that, at least retroactively, have the Phyrexian creature type.

Ice age had the snow basics and no phyrexians, alliances had two phyrexians but oddly no snow cards (though it does have some snow-lands matter cards that would be snow themselves if printed now), coldsnap had both.

Future sight gave us a one-off snow card in Centaur Omenreader but also gave us a one-off phyrexian in Sarcomite Myr.

Modern horizons gave us a bunch of snow cards, and gave us Plague Engineer and First Sphere Gargantuan.

Commander 2019 gave us one new snow card (Ohran Frostfang) as well as three new legendary Phyrexians- Greven, K'rrik, and Volrath.

Kaldheim gave us a bunch of snow cards, and of course had Vorinclex, and is the only set on this list to introduce a phyrexian that was printed at the time as a phyrexian.
