haikyuu airport headcanons bc im in an airport. no particular order. shipping involved.

- Daichi has never missed a flight and somehow everyone manages to make fun of him for this. never forgets to pack anything. always finds his gate on time. "lmao loser," Suga says, missing 2 bags and lost as fuck across the airport. he will not make his flight.

- Hinata and Kageyama navigating an airport is nearly a crisis. They can never agree on the right way to go and especially during layovers will often end up outside of security. The first time they travel with Tsukki + Yama as a group it's like a goddamn miracle because they dont need to rush and everything goes smoothly.

- on that topic, Tsukki and Yamaguchi have travel down to a science. these bitches have checklists and schedules and just get in and out. Tsukki keeps the boarding passes and Yamaguchi counts the bags and they split snacks on the plane and just nail the whole affair

- Noya and Asahi are the most experienced travelers and have been to so many airports and you'd think this makes them good at airports and it does not

- Ushijima has never gotten through security without being searched.

- Oikawa likes airports an unreasonable amount. Bitch thrives in liminal spaces. "Lets go check out which stores are open," he says, as Iwaizumi begs him to let him sit down and nap during their layover

- Kenma has airport anxiety. "We're going to miss our flight. What if our gate changes?" What if there's a delay?" He does not like putting his schedule into the hands of an Airline. Rightfully so, he loses his luggage an obscene amount.

- Kageyama and Hinata fighting and causing a ruckus in the airport and security has to come over to talk to them

- Tendou and Ushijima are generally really prepared and on top of things, but they just seem to have the worst luck. They got stranded at an airport during a layover for like 14 hours and went through every stage of grief. It doesnt help that Ushijima is really practical and good at accepting circumstances ("I'll just sit here and wait") but Tendou is highly emotional ("I'm going to eat the next airline associate that tries to talk to me.")

- Daichi is often seen standing alone in airports. This is because no matter who he's traveling with, he's probably waiting for them to catch up.

- Aran thought he was a good and functional adult until he saw Kita's itinerary for their travel plans and how neurotic he was about making sure everything on time. Kita will pre-measure and weigh all luggage to know exactly whats going on. Looking at airport layouts days before to memorize what needs to be done.

- Atsumu and Osamu have never made a flight on time. The best they can hope for is sprinting across the airport at full-tilt. This is a common occurance.

- Oikawa makes friends wherever he goes so he doesnt mind long layovers, he'll just sit and chat with whoever is around to pass the time, but one time he did leave with a group to check out a store without saying anything and Iwaizumi was lost for 30 minutes

- Asahi has so much anxiety with airports. Too many people. Too many deadlines. Bad vibes. One time a guy in an airport gave him incorrect directions to a gate and he missed his flight and he has never recovered.

- Kuroo "Yeah we have tons of time" Tetsurou is a menace to airport staff and has never budgeted enough time.

- Tsukki is a master at packing efficiently and this is exclusively due to wanting to avoid others complaining. He can pull basically anything out of his carry-on to prevent whining on a 5 hour flight. Yamaguchi uses him like a vending machine.

- Daichi once got mistaken for an airline worker and ended up with a whole group of people he was helping find their gates

- Bokuto loves traveling and flying. He finds it so fun and exciting. This is probably why Akaashi hates traveling and flying.

- Suga secretly likes layovers because he secretly hates planes and cannot stand sitting still for that long. He always pretends it such a hassle to have to wait but its the best part of the travel day when he gets to buy himself a muffin and bother Daichi for entertainment.

- Ushijima, Daichi, Kenma, and Asahi are all team "No PDA in an Airport!!!!!" whereas Tendou, Suga, Kuroo and Noya are all team "We have 2 hours to kill let me make out with you!!!!"

- Yamaguchi has sooooooo many reward points. Tsukishima doesnt even know what he's doing to get them, he's just a master of good deals and specials.

Freezes completely, his entire body going stiff. His face slowly turns bright red as he stares at you. “W-What was that for?” He avoids eye contact for the next five minutes, too flustered to function.

Asahi

Nearly jumps out of his skin. “A-Ah! That was… unexpected.” His face turns completely red, and he gets so shy he can’t even look at you.

Daichi

He blinks in surprise but quickly recovers. “Oh? What’s this for?” He chuckles, but you can see the slight pink on his cheeks.

Sugawara

Smirks instantly. “Oh? How bold of you.” He leans in slightly. “Should I return the favor?” He enjoys teasing you about it for the rest of the day.

Nishinoya

“WHOA, WAIT—DO THAT AGAIN!” He’s hyped up, running around the gym telling everyone that he got a kiss on the cheek from you.

Tanaka

Gasps dramatically. “I… I think I just ascended.” He clutches his chest like he’s been shot and dramatically falls to the floor.

Tsukishima

Stares at you, unimpressed, but his ears are turning pink. “Tch. What are you trying to pull?” He acts annoyed, but he’s hiding how fast his heart is racing.

Yamaguchi

Stammers immediately. “W-Wow, uh, thanks???” He short-circuits and immediately tells Tsukishima, who rolls his eyes but notices how happy Yamaguchi looks.

Eyes widen in shock. “H-Huh?! W-Wait, really?!” He gets so flustered he doesn’t know what to do with himself.

Blinks at you, completely unfazed. “…Cool.” But you notice how he touches his cheek later when he thinks you’re not looking.

Immediately scowls to hide his embarrassment. “Tch… Don’t do stuff like that without warning.” But his red ears give him away.

Grins. “Damn, (Y/N), you’re really just giving these out?” He pretends to be cool about it but keeps bringing it up.

I definitely see him that when he first saw you, he would be like in awe and so flustered. But after he gets over that stage, he would be such a sweetheart to you. Literally just showering you with compliments and subtly hinting his small crush. And overall just so sweet.

Kageyama

Bro, this dude - I CANT EVEN

He’s already a bit socially awkward, imagine him with a CRUSH? His brain will be having a BIG ASS ERROR. Like he would stop functioning and wouldn’t be able to form a proper sentence. He would definitely not be the way to start a conversation so you have to be the one to start the convo.

Tsukishima

When he realizes his feelings, he would just be like 😐 fuck feelings. He just so clueless what to do or how to make a move, so do you know he does instead, he teases you and makes stupid remarks. yup. Honestly, though I can imagine him like being a tad bit meaner than others cause he doesn’t know what else to do, but he definitely knows when he’s gone too far.

Yamaguchi

OK, so the first time meeting you he would definitely be a shy boy, but after processing would be just so sweet and kind. He wouldn’t be like overboard. He drop small compliments and cherish things, and just generally be so nice and sweet.

Tanaka + Nishinoya

I can definitely imagine these two having a crush and acting the same or similar. But they would definitely complement you a lot they would offer to help with stuff. And basically anything you do they like crazy like they adore you.

Daichi 

Out of all the karasuno members he would act the most mature about it. Like once he realizes feelings, he would definitely try to make small talk. Every chance he gets to. He would always like helping you and be like friends. He would definitely give small hints of his feelings and is definitely able to hold a decent conversation without being flustered and stuff.

Sugawara

I feel like he would be similar to Daichi. He would be like so caring and he would try talking to you, but I feel like he’s more like tries to give you stuff with kindness to charm you. He would definitely be more like embarrassed or flustered around you, but is still able to hold a conversation well.

Asahi

It would take him so long until he can talk to you. I mean he can barely even do a volleyball game without freaking out. Imagine a crush?? I feel like you would have to be the one to approach him because he would have a panic attack. But if he is able to talk to you, he would just give subtle compliments and be really sweet. you would definitely have to be the one to make a move though.

accommodations as a love language: a fukurodani essay

Fukurodani is probably the most unique team in Haikyuu when it comes to the team leadership structure. Bokuto is captain with Akaashi as his vice-captain. However, the unusual part of this is that Akaashi is a second year vice-captain in a team with no shortage of third years. If you know anything about Japanese senpai/kouhai dynamics, you will see how unusual this is. Compared to another second year setter-leader Kenma, Akaashi is very formal with the third years and seems to be a stickler to the system of sports culture.

Another unique thing about Fukurodani is that their captain’s number is 4 instead of 1. It becomes clear that Bokuto who wears the traditional number for the ace functions more as the ace of the team, rather than their leader. The training camp arc further cements this idea with Coach Ukkai and Miyanoshita Eri, manager of Ubugawa, making comments on Fukurodani’s play style:

Fukurodani is a team that has learned to accommodate Bokuto's ups-and-downs. They have complete trust in Bokuto’s abilities and Bokuto has trust in Fukurodani to not lose without him.

They are strong enough without Bokuto,

but they want Bokuto to do well.

Akaashi even states in 244 that although Bokuto's concerns may seem comical to some, they are very important to Bokuto and, therefore, Akaashi takes them seriously as well.

Bokuto is their mood maker and is very reliable. If you look through the Fukurodani matches, he is always the one praising his teammates for good plays and many people have commented that Bokuto being on a roll inspires others to do better as well.

This is especially striking considering Bokuto’s experience with his middle school team, ch. 335, where Bokuto was seen as too much and as a result, he often worked alone. Fukurdani is so important to Bokuto because they represent unconditional love and support.

As revealed later on in the plot, Bokuto is aware of his shortcomings. He takes responsibility for them, but also acknowledges Fukurodani’s help. He appreciates their support so much and wants to repay their kindness.

However, Bokuto is not the only one that receives the endless support of Fukurodani. They are a cohesive team and there are many scenes where they display familiarity with each other’s patterns. 

Akaashi's habit of overthinking is noticed by Saru, Kaori points out that Akaashi is considered odd, Bokuto steps up to show his trust in Akaashi even when he starts to crumble. The team is not surprised when Akaashi starts crying and lets Bokuto be the one to comfort him.

It shows the unconditional love and support Fukurodani has for all members of the team.

They are not overly concerned when a member does not play their best because they trust each other wholeheartedly.

It is significant that they are the only team who are introduced together in the timeskip. It introduces the idea that Fukurodani is still a unit. There are even parallel lines where:

Bokuto, ch. 392: “梟谷(みんな)！！普通になった俺を見てくれ!”

“Everyone!! Look at how normal I am now (how far I’ve come)!”

Akaashi (and implied Konoha, Komi, Saru), ch. 400: “世界！！梟谷(うち)のエースを見てくれ！”

“World!! Look at our ace!”

There is an interesting technique used here in the Japanese where the kanji says “Fukurodani” but the Furigana says “everyone” and “our.” The world “our” is also special because it is “うち” which is a word that derives from “home.” Bokuto belongs to Fukurodani and Fukurodani is narratively a family.

Fukurodani is introduced in Haikyuu when Karasuno is learning to grapple with Hinata's new-found desire to improve begins to destabilize the team dynamic. They show Karasuno that selfishness is okay with your team's support, leading to the honing of new weapons and Kageyama's reclaimation of his crown. They symbolize a different type of strength that Karasuno did not have yet. Although the roles they cultivated allowed for some stagnation and stress during the Mujinazaka match, they were able to overcome difficulties to become even stronger, falling just short of #1 in Japan. Still, their loss became more of a reason to pursue their goals and although not all of them play volleyball anymore, they come together across Japan to support each other.

she's face of the #ihatemybf movement , she's been dating suna since the first semester of her first year after the mess which was her high school love life (she thinks he's attractive and stuff but is off put by his personality - he's wannabe opium - but he's good enough for now) . yn's roommate/best friend is shimizu, and they got along as soon as they met each other, eventually leading to meet oikawa, kageyama and sakusa while they were thrifting in harajuku. yn liked sakusa's clothes and they became best friends as well. she likes artists such as fiona apple , mazzy star and faye webster but also takes a lot of inspiration from sunarin , which is why she loves playboi carti as well...

she's a depop reseller but tries her hardest not to scam people... even though she totally can... she's quite popular around utokyo where she does her textiles and design course, but most of her followers are because she posts really good archival clothing on twitter before depop. her favourite things are parfait and textured fabrics, and she loves altering people's clothes - especially yn who always needs her jeans length changed.. her and sakusa are the only ones in hysteric glamouristas who are kind of normal and she hates suna as well, but thinks that yn shouldn't be leading him on like this. one time kiyoko was in shibuya and was interviewed by tokyo.sims and everyone thirsted over her in the comments.

he posts thirst traps on tiktok so he's kind of popular at uni - but gets clowned on a bit.. people think he's attractive until they follow his twitter and realise he's a bit awkward and weird (think hamzah and martin awkward). he's a bit impulsive and annoying but ultimately means well for all of his friends. his favourite drink is cherry cola & he's still stuck in his brat summer even though it's chromakopia autumn.. he does like sunarin but that's simply because he buys him shots whenever they go out as a group - but he doesn't know it's because suna's amused by him. he's quite a central part of the group and it would be hella dry if it wasn't for him - yn and tooru bounce off each other quite well.

he's a fashion archive baddie and suna thinks that he's actually god but kiyoomi hates him. he got really popular because he used to post fit checked but then deleted them + made a new account. a lot of his followers r women 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ he's kiyoko's n1 fan and always buys from her depop. kiyoomi really enjoys thrifting but absolutely hates the smell of the clothes afterwards - he washes them at least 3 times before wearing them. his favourite drink is water with a slice of lemon in it because fizzy drinks upset his stomach and he hates the taste of artificial flavouring. he likes brands such as vivienne westwood, chrome hearts, hysteric glamour but also gets a lot of his clothes personally tailored for him. a big fan of tom ford and gentle monsters.

tobio is the only one in the groupchat who dgaf about what he's wearing, he will pull up to the function in a pair of sweatpants and a grey jumper but miwa forced him to buy some nicer clothes which he prefers to wear out now.... he wears tighter shirts because he likes how his arms look in them 🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️. he's the youngest in the group but after sakusa he's the most mature - doesn't do dumb shit like kiyoko, yn and oikawa does. sometimes he wears graphic shirts. he really likes going shopping with yn because he doesn't need to talk because she'll do all of it anyways. but him and yn are pretty tight, he's a good listener even if his advice isn't up to par.

“So YN do you knit? Like scarves or port holders or something?” Suna questions as he walks with you to your office

“Well I’m just learning the art right now but I do a few other crafts in my spare time,” you say, still ignoring whatever is happening on the floor

“That’s cool, you should post some of your crafts online. I’m sure you could sell them or something? Maybe make a little extra money?”

You shrug, not really interested in extra funds and more excited to just do something you enjoy

That’s right, you gather all your craft supplies and haul them into the gym one Friday during practice

The guys all stare at you like you’ve walked into the wrong gym

“Uhh Yn you do know this is a volleyball gym right?” Yaku jokes as you set up your table on the side lines and nod

“Yep! But after practice it’s going to be a craft party!”

“Craft… PARTY???” The guys all shout in tones varying from excitement to pure confusion

“Yes since you all want me to make you crafts, I’m just going to show you how to do it instead!” You exclaim

“You made sure to get non-toxic glue right Yn? I don’t trust some of the idiots not to eat it,” Sakusa remarks, staring at a few members in particular

You roll you eyes and smile, “yes Sakusa, it’s all safe! And I have crafts for everyone.”

Surprisingly, the guys are rather good at crafts

Sakusa’s flexibility makes crocheting and knitting a piece of cake

Atsumu’s flamboyant nature makes him great at painting

Hinata and Kageyama have somehow turned bracelet making into a competition

• The planner. He researches everything before booking anything.

• Takes charge of all “outside world” interactions (dealing with mechanics, awkward neighbors, movers).

• Will stand next to you while you’re getting attitude from someone just to back you up quietly.

• Handles real-life problems with wit and sarcasm but always follows through.

• Not the “soft” type in relationships, but he’s always two steps ahead on logistics.

Akaashi Keiji

• The one reading contracts and receipts while you’re still getting your shoes on.

• Handles appointments, scheduling, and anything that requires thinking ahead.

• Doesn’t show off, but he handles things: broken appliances, refund calls, last-minute emergencies.

• He’ll carry your things, open your water bottles, and double-check your medicine dose without being asked.

• Quiet but high-functioning. Solid man.

Iwaizumi Hajime

• Naturally takes over safety/maintenance roles (checking the oil, lifting the heavy boxes).

• Doesn’t speak over you, but will step up to confront rudeness when needed.

• Plans around your comfort without making a show of it (like parking closer, avoiding crowded times).

• Remembers small physical needs (you need water, meds, jacket, etc.) more than emotional talks.

• Grounded. You feel safe walking next to him.

Kageyama Tobio

• Awkward at first but always wants to be useful.

• Will literally carry all your bags without being asked.

• Handles basic roles like carrying things, walking on the street side, and checking on you constantly.

• Might be impulsive, but he’ll do what’s needed the moment you’re in discomfort.

• Always trying to be the “man” in the relationship even if he fumbles. (LOL🤣)

Atsumu Miya

• Will argue like a brat but acts like a man when it counts.

• Orders food, picks the hotel, drives everywhere, kills the bugs.

• Likes being the one “in charge” but respects your space.

• Surprisingly quick to handle medical or safety stuff when needed.

• Show-off tendencies aside, he won’t let you lift a finger when he’s around.

Sakusa Kiyoomi

• Responsible in a quiet, clinical way.

• Keeps sanitizer in the car, plans buffer time into schedules, sets up your doctor appointments.

• Handles anything messy or complicated with zero hesitation—but you have to let him.

• Doesn’t say much, but he does everything the moment he sees a gap.

• Most likely to handle family problems behind the scenes before you even notice.

miscellaneous high school shenanigans part two!!

tsukki's only ever been struck speechless twice in his life

the first was when hinata snuck into the mock training camp. the second was when he found out that kageyama didn't have any music taste whatsoever

after tsukki gets over the shock he's like "what do you MEAN you don't listen to music?? how do you just not listen to music??" and kageyama just shrugs and takes a slurp from his yogurt drink or whatever and goes "just don't"

i'm telling y'all kageyama doesn't listen to music the closest he gets is the rhythm of sneakers squeaking against the gym floor and hinata's bathroom song

also i think it'd be funny if yachi was just always taking cues from high school romance manga for living her life. right after becoming manager she picks up the first sports manga that catches her eye and uses that to guide her through the epic highs and lows of high school volleyball

hinata and kageyama: [yelling about something something passionate confession of emotional vulnerability something something partners and teammates something something reaching your dreams something something] yachi: oh my god . . . this is just like in slam dunk . . .

(i will be honest with you guys i have never seen slam dunk so i don't know if it matches anything in slam dunk but i respect slam dunk so i went with it)

honestly every day yachi is grateful she's living in a sports series because she does NOT think she could handle the backstabbing female love rival whose only purpose is to be mean to the female lead for getting involved with the male lead

i mean she COULD. but maybe after like thirty chapters of development and a major event.

(yachi thinks about this a lot. she rambles about her hypotheticals to tsukki and yamaguchi and although tsukki will never admit it, he finds it very entertaining)

i think konoha is really good at modern romance. i think he excels at the small everyday romantic things and makes people swoon without even realizing it. he's the fukurodani academy heartthrob but is completely oblivious to it

leans in to tuck an earbud into your ear when he wants to share music. walks you to where you need to go even if it's out of his way and never says anything about it. will take the stack of textbooks you've been asked to carry without a word. buys you a drink from the vending machine without being asked. really good at leaning against the wall/doorframes/over the window in a way that makes him look windswept and pretty.

just UGH konoha akinori i love him

the other third years would be soooooooo jealous but they get it. they too have fallen prey to his charms

on today's edition of making hq characters collect a random Thing™️ (following fukunaga + bucket hats): sakusa likes coasters

they're easy souvenirs from different places AND you can swap them out to match whatever you're feeling at the time!! plus they save his desk from water rings!!! they're functional, pretty, and he has less to clean up because of them!!!!

sakusa's favorite is this square white ceramic one with ginkgo leaves drifting off a tree painted onto it

(no it's not because iizuna-san got it for him as a bday gift or anything shut up motoya!!)

sakunami totally had a tiny tiny secret crush on asahi at some point

he just thinks asahi is really cool!!!! and handsome!!!! and maybe sakunami just wants to be cool and handsome too!!!!

sakunami has a really good poker face i guarantee you. nobody knows how wild his inner monologue is until they get him to open up around them

i mention this because one of the times dateko is discussing karasuno after a match with them (practice or otherwise), the others get around to talking about asahi and sakunami gives a dreamy lil sigh and is like "yeah . . . he's so strong . . . isn't it cool . . ." and everyone is just like. what the fuck

they were NOT expecting that from sakunami of all people and especially not about karasuno's ace

kogane is devastated because he doesn't think there's any way he could compete with asahi

cue the miscommunication in which kogane tries to be a little bit more like asahi to get sakunami to like him while sakunami wonders if kogane has a fever or something because he's been acting weird

ALSO keep in mind that kogane probably gets all his info about asahi from the rumors and whatnot so he's like "i have to be MEAN???? i have to BEAT PEOPLE UP???? i don't know how to beat people up!!!!! i can barely beat futakuchi-san in arm wrestling!!!!!"

sakunami please put the poor boy out of his misery the rest of dateko are SUFFERING

usuri is definitely the first to clock kiryuu's massive crush on bokuto. he's the first to realize that kiryuu is speeding down the highway in that direction even before kiryuu himself

kiryuu is like "wtf how did you know| and usuri is like "haha you know how perceptive i am!" when in reality he caught kiryuu sleep-talking about bokuto's muscles and how fluffy his hair looks

see also: akaashi on the fukurodani side realizing that bokuto has a major thing for kiryuu that bokuto is oblivious to
