AS WITH ALL MY MOSAICS DON'T LOOK TOO CLOSELY IF YOU ARE AVOIDING ALL SPOILERS! So you may have heard of a game that came out this summer, Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE, the one I've been posting marker drawings of characters from? Well I needed to do a mosaic for it so badly, I have been poking at this since convention season ended and have this to show! I wanted to do an ensemble piece featuring different chapters, people and places, but still keeping the abstract of the Mystery Labryinth! Both it and Kanai Ward are very fun settings, I enjoyed exploring them! Tumblr is compressing the image a bit, please open fully for a better look! I'll reblog it with some closer crops later too. This one will be a print for the 2024 convention season and appear in my shop after that!

A bit old, but "Unlock the Truth" dragged me back to Rain Code screeching and screaming and I'm curious about your opinion on this reblog-convo I had with cochidihn since we discussed about Yomi-Vivia-Yakou a bit and the symbolism of umbrellas in this game https://www.tumblr.com/cochidinh/734982987702304768/they-just-make-me-so Penny for your thoughts?

Very good thread! Y'all really covered all the bases, and I'm glad that Yomi statue outside Kanai Station is being talked about more cause it's so fuckin' silly but also symbolic with the umbrella as you two mentioned.

Since umbrellas are clear symbols of protection, I'd be amiss not to add Yakou into the mix, as he's one of the three protectors of Kanai Ward (the other two being Yomi and Makoto, which your thread has discussed both extensively). The three of them share the same goal of protecting Kanai Ward and its citizens, but they're all broken--partly because of their cowardice. Yakou avoids confrontations at all costs, Yomi lets his soldiers do all the dirty work for him, and Makoto hides away in his tower and conceals his identity.

The three of them also fit under the idea of 'if your the protector, then who's going to protect you?' Yakou had Vivia, who threatened one of his own allies in order to keep Yakou's darkest mystery concealed. Yomi had Martina and Hitman Zilch standing by his side before they were both kicked out of his life (whether he wanted it or not), and once he lost them, he became vulnerable and Martina n Makoto took advantage of that to take him down. Makoto only had himself at first, but Kanai Ward's citizens would come around to show their support for the CEO by electing to keep him in power in the end. Protection is practically the entire cast's love language at this point.

RAIN CODE SPOILERS - rant on character utilisation

alright so I've ranted in tags of reblogs before but I think it's time I made my own post. I enjoyed rain code, I thought it was great. but I think one of the game's weaknesses is lack of screen time for the main characters, particularly the master detectives of the nocturnal detective agency, I'm actually rather satisfied with yakou's role so I won't be touching on him.

while I like each character getting focus per chapter, I kinda don't like how the other characters are virtually nowhere to be found for essentially the entire chapter, the only chapter that I think used all the characters well was chapter 4 (fucking EXCELLENT chapter, best one in the game) and the end of chapter 3.

but you know what?

even then, I can forgive some of the earlier chapters for not having every character at least be around, in fact I think the single character per chapter could have worked if it weren't for one thing. what really bugs me is the lack of involvement for any of the NDA in chapter 5, you know. the FINAL chapter.

I kind of hate? that they were just believed to be dead and had zero involvement in the unravelling of kanai ward's ultimate secret whatsoever despite the fact that they were ALL sent to solve it. I get it was supposed to instill yuma with hopelessness but I think main characters getting no involvement in the final chapter hinders the game more.

you know. what I liked about danganronpa is that every living character was required to participate in every trial, every living character was also forced to have screentime every chapter as a result, so the final survivors of the game always ended up unravelling the final mystery together. to see all these characters we have come to know react to mind-blowing revelations at the end. this was what I was hoping for rain code.

honestly, some part of me wished all the detectives formed some sort of coalescence chain when they all held hands so they could all enter the mystery labyrinth and solve the case together and have some bullshit convenient side effect of sharing vivia's forte or something make it so they all keep their memories. the ending can still happen the same way, yuma just cancels his coalescence on all the other detectives so they can leave and then he takes the emergency exit.

I would've loved to see all the detectives bouncing around ideas inside the mystery labyrinth, losing their minds over the revelations. of course, vivia and halara likely would've figured out earlier than others but it still would've been nice to see. god it would've been nice to see more of them in the aftermath of chapter 4 too.

in fact, even having the other detectives in on the investigation would have helped!! can you imagine all of them reuniting and getting closure with yakou? they all loved him, I think they deserved to get the same closure as yuma.

anyways this is kind of messy, ended up being longer than I intended but tl;dr, NDA should've been involved in chapter 5, they were all sent to solve kanai ward's ultimate secret and deserved to unravel the mystery together

Yuma catches a nasty cold 🤧💦

I've given this boy enough fevers. (well he still has one but that's not the MAIN issue here) Made a small lazy edit comic outta my most recent sprite edits. (also my very poor attempt to make him look wet from the rain by darkening his hair and clothes and adding some...well very poorly drawn water droplets x-x)

After entering the base and removing his raincoat, the small soaked detective lets out a loud and wet sneeze. The city's gloomy rain really did a number on him due to the rotten luck of him losing his hat, resulting in the rain downpouring onto him. He ends up with an awful cold by the time he returns to base, his nose running, bright red and stuffed to the point that his voice becomes nasally. (as I said before, kanai ward rain probably gives people much harsher colds)

Yakou really has his work cut out for him looking after this sopping wet tissue of a trainee💦 But he's happy to do it. Its his job as chief to look after those in his agency. The sub will eventually be littered in tissues... ;w; (and everyone else in the agency will have to wear a mask when inside.)

I LIKE HOW I SAID IM NOT THAT INTO SNZ BUT I WANTED TO TRY MY HAND AT EDITING IT ANYWAY...

Man idk, after reading more sicknario prompts here, I suddenly wanted to see him all messed up being all wet from both the rain AND a drippy cold at the same time at least once… x’D The absolute WETTEST of wetcats. poor baby ;-; literal wet tissue

how are there still leaves/needles on these trees? there is zero sunlight and even if there are varieties in there that could survive that for a while its also been raining for entire three years i think all that dampness has long since caused them to get 1000 root rot and fungal diseases. that's not a forest that is a pile of rotten wood that's already 70% disintegrated. what do they even nail all that shit to

Omg wait really?? Please that's actually so funny to me. Me just casually reblogging like 10 Rain Code-related posts, not realizing the chaos I am unleashing on my poor unsuspecting followers' dashboard sbdhdd

But anyway! To give a quick explanation what Rain Code is actually about!

In Rain Code you play as Yuma, a young detective with Amnesia that has made a pact with the god of death. You've been summoned by the World Detective Organisation to come to Kanai Word to discover it's ultimate secret. Along the way, you meet several other Master Detectives that are being sent there for the same reason as you.

It's your goal to find out what the true mystery of Kanai Ward is while solving several murder cases along the way!

That's about as far as I'm willing to go without going into spoiler territory. I just beat the game a few days ago and my brain is still rotting.

the prince (OKAY we all know who it is but sshh) usually has his hair in a low ponytail. he used to have it out all the time, but as it grew out more and more, it would always somehow end up covering his face. he found this very annoying, but divine royals just can't simply cut their hair, which is why he chose the ponytail.
