Notes:
Nice video of this hilarious show. Filmed from the orchestra. Lots of wideshots, which can lead to some washout at times. Beautiful zooms however on the cast (Alex Brightman fancam at times but it never takes away from the video!). Overall a great video of this Hilarious and perfect production.

Cast:
Colin LeMoine (u/s Orpheus), Hannah Whitley (Eurydice), Matthew Patrick Quinn (Hades), Nyla Watson (u/s Persephone), Nathan Lee Graham (Hermes), Belén Moyano (Fate 1), Cecilia Trippiedi (u/s Fate 2), Dominique Kempf (Fate 3), Racquel Williams (Worker), Jemal Lee Harris (Worker), KC Dela Cruz (s/w Worker), Ian Coulter-Buford (s/w Worker)
Notes:
Fantastic video of Colin's Orpheus Debut! there is a small head obstruction in the far left bottom that obstructs nothing but Hermes legs at times. This was a very unique and stressful show for the cast as they were down a worker and had everyone in the company on in the show. the show started almost 25 minutes late as they had to rehearse and change choreo. The lights hit in wait for me and the choreo change is quite fun to see and it's unique!

Notes:
Big head obstruction on the left side of the screen where the crib, and Charles room is. it's worked around fine, but it's there and can be very distracting at times. besides that it's a great 4k video and it's a unique one, because they had asl and captions so the cast had to stick on script, which led to some fun choreo improv!

i love reading about your show experiences!! i’m seeing the tour in april with a couple friends, and your anecdotes have made me look forward to it so much more. i’ve noted that it’s a good idea to bring several sharpies for autographs, but do you recommend any certain color? i’ve gotten the default black ones for playbills in the past, but i’m worried regular ink won’t show up on the black and white pattern. are the metallic ones any good? just wanna be sure!
Oh, thank you! Like everyone excited in a fandom, I am happy to (over)share! ❤
Metallic sharpies work really well. Gold stands out more on the black and white striped design, but I also used silver and it looks good. When my sharpie sh!t the bed (while Karmine Alers was gracious enough to sign my playbill--she only signed mine, btw, because no one else asked her to; she's an amazing actor and a super nice person so if you see her, talk to her!!) my backup was a green felt tip pen that worked nicely. To the point that maybe I would take something like that again versus a sharpie, tbh.
I am excited for you to see the show next month! I hope you have a great time and if you're comfortable sharing, let us know about your experience!!

Casting Goals: Evita
Okay before ya’ll start calling for my head on a spike please read this: Argentina is 96.7% white and I’m just sick and tired of hearing about people claiming Evita is white washed when Argentina is a mostly white country. Therefore casting Eva as white woman would be more historically accurate. But for me when it comes to Evita one of the most difficult scores known to man you have to cast based on talent first. I fought back and forth between Chelsea Emma Franko, Emmy Raver-Lampman and Nicole Scherzinger as Eva and at the end of the day the one who kept going through my mind was Chelsea. I’m sure I’m gonna get so many comments calling me racist and what not, but bring it on.

In The Heights
I was living in New York the summer that Hamilton seemed to really take off. In fact, my first few nights in NYC I could see the Hamilton Markee from my hotel window. I fell hard for Lin Manuel Miranda’s work as soon as I heard the opening song to Hamilton, and I never looked back. When Mark, the artistic director for the Rep, announced last spring that In The Heights would be our fall musical I audibly gasped, much to the upset of my boyfriend. I had been looking forward to this show since I heard about it happening, and several months later it did not disappoint.
The set is simple: a bodega with a balcony above, two slices of larger building flank either side and large open space painted like a road in front ready for dancing awaits. It truly feels like a little slice of Washington Heights was delivered to Milwaukee. The light above feel like the sun and as the show goes on there is an incredible display of lighting genius, taking us from midday to smokey bar to outside under the fireworks.
In The Heights features a massive ensemble to compliment the outstanding main cast. The dancing in this show will make your legs ache with jealousy. Everyone seems to be dancing hard, dancing stronger with every song, the precision of their moves makes the choreography so visceral to watch.
Ryan Alvarado is a spitting image of Lin Manuel Miranda. He is more than an amazing mimic, he truly captures the spirit of all of Lin’s leading men; passionate, young blooded, and just a little bit lovesick. His love interest Vanessa, played by Stephanie Gomérez, is another amazingly youthful and vibrant performer. Yassmin Alers stuns in her role as Abuela Claudia, which left me humming “Paciencia Y Fe” from weeks after. The parental roles of Kevin and Camila, played by Karmine Alers and Tony Chiroldes respectively, are powerful and confident. Seriously, Tony made me cry multiple times during this show, there is some powerful Dad Energy radiating off of this guy. All of this goes without mentioning Lillian Castillo, Nicolas Garza, Henry Gainza, Alyssa V. Gomez, Sophia Macías, David Kaverman, or the hilarious UJ Mangune who all gave stunning performances as well.
In The Heights is a love letter to life at it worst trying to get better. It’s a snapshot of a time in all of our lives where everything changes, some for the better and some for the worst, but all at once. It’s a seriously good show, and it runs now through October 28th. For more information including tickets, visit the Rep’s page here.
Until the next show,
A.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
The Milwaukee Repertory Theater kicks off its 65th anniversary season in spectacular fashion with an explosive, emotion-charged production of the Tony Award-winning musical In The Heights by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. You could feel the anticipation in the air opening night right before curtain time, and judging by the audience’s reaction, no one went home disappointed after witnessing exceptional theater overflowing with electrifying passion. Credit goes to director May Adrales for eliciting such superbly-etched, powerful performances from a first-rate cast. It was obvious director and actors poured their hearts out to bring to life this tale of the American Dream told musically through the eyes of a Latino community because they think so highly of Miranda as both songwriter and storyteller.
In The Heights takes us into the community of Washington Heights in New York City during a hot summer in July. It is here that we meet a cast of characters of Latino descent who want to pursue big dreams but still want to keep hold of traditions that make Washington Heights their home away from their native home – something that’s impossible given the changes happening all around them. This delicate balance is key to the plot of In The Heights, told through multiple musical styles that include Rap and Hip-Hop, traditional musical sounds, Latin rhythms such as Salsa, Merengue and Samba, and Soul and Rhythm and Blues.
The Rep captures the brilliance of Lin-Manuel Miranda and rises to new heights in this high-stepping, fast-moving production. Credit goes to Music Director Dan Kazemi, Musical Supervisor John Tanner, Associate Music Director Eugenio Vargas and their musicians for enhancing the plot with their sizzling musical support. The musicians earned a well-deserved round of applause from the audience at the end of the opening night performance.

Ryan Alvarado, who was part of the first Broadway national tour of Hamilton, scores with his spirited performance as Usnavi, owner of the local bodega who longs to return to his home in the Dominican Republic; Sophia Macias wins with her sensitive turn as Nina, a college student who is seen as a local hero because she has achieved big things outside the Heights; Karmine Alers as the tough-as-nails Camila and Tony Chiroldes as the stubborn Kevin, co-owners of a car service, excel as Nina’s proud parents; Yassmin Alers is brilliant in the character role of Abuela Claudia, matriarch of the community who others look up to; David Kaverman perfects the role of Benny, a driver for Kevin’s business who one day hopes to own his own car service; Stephanie Gomerez is touching as Vanessa, a beauty salon worker who yearns to escape the Heights and her alcoholic mother; Henry Gainza gives a charming performance as Piragua Guy, who sells shaved ice off the streets of the Heights.
And then there’s Lillian Castillo as Daniela, the sassy, savvy owner of her own beauty salon who cannot meet rent hikes imposed on her business. Castillo steals the show with her hilarious comic timing.
In other cast notes, Sophia Macias is a resident of Chicago who has performed with the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. And Tony Chiroldes was part of Heights’ original Broadway cast.
Innovative choreography by William Carlos Angulo and some superbly-acted scenes wrought with raw emotion make the Rep’s production of In The Heights an unforgettable experience.
In The Heights runs through Oct. 28 in The Rep’s Quadracci Powerhouse, located at 108 E. Wells in downtown Milwaukee. For tickets visit www.MilwaukeeRep.com or call (414) 224-9490.

Very nice video of closing! Lots of wideshots, and nice zooms. Filmed from the balcony so the video has a somewhat different angle. A speaker can be seen in the top left of the screen at times but doesn't take away from much of anything in the show.

First Performance! Near flawless video, besides some washout in wideshots and shakiness at times. Very minimal obstruction if any at all.
