Interesting article by Xavier from Archéo'Japon, overviewing the history and beliefs surrounding May 5th Kodomo no hi 子供の日 (children's day) / Tango no Sekku 端午の節句 (Japanese take on Duanwu festival) traditions.
Original article is in French but really worth a read through auto-translate if you wish to learn more about the origins of some of the Kodomo no hi rituals :)

I stand corrected. The leaf is not sakura, but a Daimyo oak leaf. It is said to be sweetish. It is called Kashiwa mochi. The filling is red bean paste (sweet anko) and is wrapped in kashiwa leaf. Traditionally the Japanese eat this mochi during the 5th of May, the so-called Tango no sekku, the Boys’ Day until recently. This was celebrated to ward off evil spirits for samurai boys. In 1948, the Japanese government decreed that it should become the Children’s Day. Meaning, not only boys are celebrated but also the girls.

Oh I love how Kashiwa Mochi World ends his sentences with “kashiwa mochi” instead of “kashira” (it might be so)

"端午の節句" or "こどもの日" is Japanese public holiday in 5/5. the day of boys, praying for their health and live.
incidentally, "ひな祭り" is the day of girls in 3/3, the girls's version of "こどもの日".
Also ”柏餅” is the special snack in 5/5. sweet boiled (and mashed) white beans mixed with miso inside mochi, wrapped with Kashiwa oak leaf.
leaf doesn't eat but only for scent. each material have meaning of health and longevity.
however, mochi is the most killing food in Japan.

the best blond singing pirate in tokusatsu
I’ve been doing a Zenkaiger rewatch while I take screenshots for my Stacey-themed side blog (@demonprincesuteishi) and sometimes there are shots of Mashiko Atsuki’s character, Zox Goldtsuiker,* that I can't resist grabbing as well. I know Mashiko has lots of fans on here, many of them MPW fans who aren't familiar with his role on Zenkaiger, so I thought I'd post some highlights.
The one above is from a favorite scene of mine, from the Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger vs. Kiramager vs. Sentaiger movie. It's Zox and Captain Marvelous from Gokaiger being pirates together, featuring a truly sublime finger-gun.
About to face a nemesis in the rain; wearing his Rudolph hat and big sparkly bow tie for Christmas; when a magical kotatsu turned him into a cat
When he was the King of Kashiwa Mochi; pissed off about a tennis game; when Stacey tried to get him to betray Kaito
Being a naughty schoolboy with his sister; eating a little sausage; the evil bizarro version of Zox who went around besmirching his name (you can tell he's evil because he has beautiful eyeliner wings)
Staring down an impostor; when he turned into a yankii stereotype with a mullet; doing his "huh"/"wow" face
In conclusion, if you haven't already, you should watch Zenkaiger. Mashiko Atsuki is excellent in it.
*Character names get romanized in a lot of different ways in tokusatsu because show creators make up names that don't match up with any real type of name in any language or culture. So Zox is sometimes romanized as Zocks, and his family name can be Goldtsuiker or Goldtweaker (I think I saw a third romanization somewhere as well).
