Figuring out what counts as an unpopular opinion with who about this is rough work.

Wildbow clearly wants to tel a story about rehabilitation and cycles of violence and w/e, but the story's sense of narrative justice is still incredible punitive and this leaks through whenever it's not, like, what he's specifically trying to write about at the moment.

More broadly the characterization of the girls works extremely well as long as you read them as being well-meaning-but-tragically-fourteen, and therefor thoughtless and self-righteous and kind of shitty. Less so when you try to extract much in the way of real coherent themes from the story.

On the other side I do in fact still think that pale is good.

unrecomending The Crescent City books by Sarah J Maas. An urban fantasy series (or at least the first book) that comes uncomfortably close to defending slavery and also is by an author that only really sees the difference in YA & Adult Fantasy in the number of sex scenes your allowed to put in

Maas is one of those authors who I'm intellectual aware is, like, beloved and best-selling and probably makes her publisher more than all my faves combined, but I have literally never actually seen someone say a single good thing about her books?

Last Song: The Ticketman by Rachel Rose Mitchell.
