had the idea for this short fic and couldn’t let it go. i need more tender kayo ;-;

Fluff

All hostiles clear.

You lept up eagerly and rushed over to Kay/o, embracing him. “Great job, Kay!” you commended him. 

You felt him immediately stiffen. “Thank you, agent,” he said automatically. Seeming to sense your hesitance, he added your name, gentler.

“You did good as well.”

You forced a smile and nodded, but filed the moment aside to ask him about it later. As friends, you didn’t mean to overstep any boundaries.

You kept your eyes on him as the team entered the plane. Off the battlefield, Kay/o was always a quieter person… well, machine. But he felt strangely distant to you.

Later, you found him in the common room alone and you sat beside him. His face flashed a smiling emoticon.

“Good to see you. How’s your arm?” He asked. 

You grabbed at it absentmindedly. “It’s all good, Sage healed it.”

“That’s good to hear you’re functioning optimally,” Kay/o nodded. You gave a small smile— sometimes it felt like he enjoyed speaking in overly mechanical ways just to confuse people. Mislead them. As if he could be less for being a machine when to you… he was just Kay.

You looked down, feeling suddenly embarrassed. “Hey… Kay. Do you… not like being hugged? I know you joke about the deadly hugging and all, but… I don’t know. Did I make you uncomfortable?”

Kay/o screen blinked an exclamation mark. He said your name, as softly as his speakers would allow him. “I… negative. Not exactly.” You rarely heard him stutter like this.

Seeming at an unusual loss for words, Kay/o slowly reached out and gently placed your hand in his, giving you time to pull away. “It did not make me uncomfortable— you don’t make me uncomfortable.”

If a robot could fidget, Kay/o was.

Your hand wasn’t small by any means, and yet Kay/o’s easily outsized yours, metal joints resting against yours.

“I don’t feel uncomfortable. But the risk element is too high,” he finally spoke. 

“From a hug?” your raised your brow. 

“Overall. Look at our hands. I could crush your bones in a moment. Without thinking,” Kay/o said. His face flashed red, betraying how off-putting he found the thought. “You are… too precious to me, agent. I couldn’t bear to—” he cut himself off. 

“Of course, I am programmed to feel the same to all other Valorant—”

He was cut off again as you threw yourself against him, wrapping him in as tight of a hug as you can. He faltered and you could practically hear the thoughts whirring in his head. 

Slowly, his arms moved up to surround you, but hesitated at touching.

“You’re not gonna break me, Kay. You’re very precious to me as well,” you whispered, pressing a quick kiss to the side of his face. Now that got some processors sizzling.

Kay/o took that moment to wrap his arms tighter around you, holding you.

“Affirmative,” he finally spoke. You smiled and wrapped yourself further around him. Though he didn’t have a heartbeat, the whirr of his motor was surprisingly comforting.

Urges to teach you self defense. He’s lost so many and he doesn’t want to lose you too 😭

Replays cute past events in his memory files while you’re sleeping. And is always storing new ones.

Can’t lie to him bc he documents everything. He can always detect when something is wrong.

Is a private guy so he will only ever agree to hold you when no agents are around. If you’re really needy he’ll smoke you two for privacy. Probably finds more comfort on it than you do!

Has a hard time with his whole shadows situation and not being able to remember himself before “omen” but believes that if he has you then he’s okay how it is.

Tries to be funny…fails. His voice makes the punchline go over your head.

Sends you emails to your protocol device when your away too long.

Doesn’t allow you to go on any missions alone or he is a nervous wreck.

- Sova is a big guy alright, we all know that

- that means he’s getting real close with his crush right now

- if you’re looking for it, you can feel his heartbeat. It gets faster the longer y’all are smushed together

- honestly this probably happened on a mission and was a duck-for-cover gone wrong

- so he’s like. Mildly out of breath, his eyes are all intense from the fighting

- if you ask, the blush creeping up his neck is just from exertion, totally not because he can feel you pressed against him the way he’s imagined so often

- he wants the moment to last, wants to keep looking down at you but there is a mission and he is the golden boy

Cypher

- this one also happened on a mission

- cypher was set up for surveillance and had covered his hiding spot to hell and back with tripwires and cages

- thoughtful you went to go check on him, tripped about 48 times, and narrowly avoided stepping on a piece of his equipment

- in the process of Not Dying, you end up knocking cypher against the wall

- and hoooooooo man if that doesn’t do it for him a little bit

- fr tho he is.. well he’s cypher so he’s gonna be suave and be grateful he wears a mask so you can’t see his dopey smile because cmon that was kinda endearing

- doesn’t mean you can’t hear it in his voice as he teases you tho

- “you should really look where you’re going habibi”

- he likes seeing your eyes this close, he thinks they’re beautiful

Chamber

- you and chamber were having a petty argument about weapon design whilst walking down the hallways of the VP headquarters

- he’s passionate about it and thinks he knows better than you

- so to get your point across, you pull on his tie to bring his head close to yours

- you figured he’d keep his balance but poor chamber wasn’t expecting that at all and one hundred percent stumbles forward

- now you’re caught off guard and both of you end up crashing backwards into crates of supplies left in the hallway

- thankfully for chambers ego, he holds himself up against the crates so that he’s leaned over you and you’re trapped between his arms holding his tie like an idiot

- and because he is chamber, he flirts

- “if you wanted me closer, all you had to do was ask. Best not to make a mess, non?”

Yoru

- remember how in retake phoenix ziplines with his gun or whatever

- so he’s bragging about that and yoru is like “watch this” and tries to do it too but Cooler B)

- so a small group of you are gathered in the practice room, watching yoru zipline across the room

- except he slips 3/4 of the way down and crashes right into you

- y’all end up falling back into a cramped space meant to be rubble

- his pride- but also he’s worried about you because he did kind of just fall on you

- you’re fine, just a few lil scrapes

- the embarrassment on yoru’s face makes up for him falling on you

- he’s totally trying to brush it off, especially in front of you and the other agents, but you saw that genuine care he has for you

Omen

- you’re hunting around in one of the little supply closets on the base when omen teleports in

- he was looking for some of his yarn that he’d ordered and didn’t expect anyone else to be in the closet

- so he teleports in and jump scares you basically

- he catches you by instinct but the supply closet really was not made for more than one person to be in it at a time, especially with all the stuff in there

- it’s a little cramped but he feels too awkward to teleport out now. And also he wants his yarn

- this close, you can really see the way his slits get bigger and smaller repetitively, mimicking a kind of blinking

- his hands are cold too, where they’re on your shoulders to steady you

- bless his heart, he doesn’t know what to say except for a quiet “sorry”

- you laugh it off and ask him what he was looking for

- “yarn.”

- if you pay close attention you can see that his face slits are growing brighter than they usually do and some of his shadowy smoke seeps from under his hood

- you help him find his yarn but not before omen moves to stand in the doorway instead so you have space

- he flexes his claws as he watches you, a nervous habit he’s picked up over the years

- y’all have some idle chit chat about what he’s working on. Omen even offers to keep you company while you do whatever

Phoenix

- he trips and falls forward onto you

- it’s not graceful At All

- he’s kinda dumbfounded, holding himself up with his hands by your head

- 1. He’s embarrassed but 2. Holy shit he’s this close to you and the way you’re looking at him

- huh that’s weird the heater came on but only in the common room

- “you okay phoenix?”

- that snaps him out of his little moment and he scrambles back on his feet to help you up

- he apologises so much but really it’s fine, accidents happen! Still, he feels like he wants to make it up to you in some way

- you suggest watching a movie

- and if you snuggle a little closer during it, it’s just cos he’s warm and toasty ;)

Kayo

- it happens on the way back from a mission

- y’all are in the back of the vulture

- you’re behind Kayo cleaning gunk and dirt off of him when y’all experience some turbulence

- you were standing to clean him and end up getting jostled around

- you probs would’ve fallen on your face had he not reacted ultra fast and pulled you close to him

- you’re basically in his lap now

- like Phoenix, his body heats up and it’s totally just a robot thing, no other reason

- you’re startled, being this close to Kayo

- but since you’re here now, you start cleaning the front of him too

- this is what makes him short circuit lmao

- the fact that he’s fully capable of doing it himself but you’re cleaning him just to be nice

- the face you make in concentration, picking at a spot that won’t come off- that’s his new favourite face of yours. The way your eyebrows pull together a little, a bit of a nose scrunch as you peer closer

- he has never felt so cared for by a human before

Harbor

- some of the younger agents wanted to see harbors powers so he was showing off a little bit

- poor you turned the corner at just the right time to be smacked in the face by a wall of water

- okay he laughs a little bit but he is immediately apologising

- he pulls you behind him to a bathroom and gets a towel to dry you off

- you just kind of let him dry at least your head off. You’ll go change into different clothes after

- he’s very meticulous in drying you off and when he gets to your hair he ruffles it with the towel

- you shriek and try to duck away from him but he is having way too much fun with this

- he finally stops when you put your hands over his and damn that big stupid smile on his big stupid face

- “you look like a wet sewer rat”

- you fake gasp and try to hold back a smile

- and harbor is just thinking about how he could get addicted to seeing that

Breach

- one of his arms came off during a mission so you’re hanging out with him in his room while kj fixes it

- he gets up to get smth but doesn’t realise how off balance he is without the other arm. I mean those things have gotta be fuckin Heavy

- so he instantly starts tilting over and then you shoot up to help balance him

- but he’s too far gone and now you’re falling with him

- at least you land on his chest which is softer than a metal arm

- he’s kind of at a loss for words though and the fact that you’re basically laying on top of him does not help his brain function

- for once he has nothing to say

- which is only worrying to you

- “are you ok? That looked like it hurt. Sorry for falling on you too”

- he’s totally fine except for not being able to get that image of you out of his head

- he totally imagines you cuddling up to him while sleeping now

Brimstone

- not to be an old man but he definitely got a sharp knee pain and stumbled

- you made him sit down so you could make sure he was ok, that it wasn’t bruised or anything after a mission

- he’s fine just aging but the thought makes him feel fuzzy inside

- he tries to reassure you he’s okay but you seriously insist on taking him to see sage or Skye just to make sure there’s nothing wrong

- he secretly adores how doting you can be and won’t complain if you stick close to him for a bit after

This is a glimpse of my bosom future!headcanon timeline. Just 'cause (I came across a West Wing gif-set, probably why). It also features in Timey-Wimey and Piano Practice. Though, always in flux the future is... Virgil and Kayo have a chat - they worry about Scott. A lot. That's it, that's the story. Some things, old and new, hurt.

Warning: an OC death mentioned in passing (please, read the end note*, if you kindly make it that far).

WORRIES

A gust of wind ruffled his hair - still trademark styled, but more liberally sprinkled with salt and silver now - as Shadow landed on the pad. Kayo still used her trusty old bird for errands and investigative missions, although her flightsuit was a mandatory solid black of the Secret Service now. Ms. Kyrano, Chief of World President's Security Detail, joined him wordlessly at the railings of the rooftop terrace, overlooking the magnificent vista of the Alps, crystal blue sky and the beautiful city below. Virgil sighed.

"I need updates on his BP and heart rate stats twice a day, uploaded to my comm directly. Thrice a day if there's a... situation or Ambassador Lemaire shows up, or the First Lady starts a war or something..."

Kayo suppressed a smile and leaned sideways on the railing.

"Eos gleans his stats every morning and every night before bedtime from all the residences sensors."

"Yeah, but Eos doesn't have access to the situation room. Not that Scott knows of, anyway. And I can't risk..."

Virgil was short for breath and the last words came out as a croak. Kayo squinted and squeezed his arm.

"You don't approve?"

"That he had a cardiac episode after the memorial service and then went on to take the most stressful job in the world? No, I well damn don't approve!"

Virgil's knuckles went white from the grip on the railings. Kayo stayed silent, giving room to his anguish, a hand on his bicep an unwavering anchor. When dark brown eyes next turned back to her, they were glistening with a sheen of tears.

"How does he do it, Kayo? After we lost Jeffy Jr.*? I can't breathe sometimes, it hurts so bad! And I'm just an uncle."

The pain flared readily from an ever fresh wound. Virgil's voice hitched:

"Allie felt so guilty he left for that deep space mission! I'm so scared all the time. How does Scott even cope?!"

Kayo snorted at that.

"Have you MET Scott? He doesn't."

A wide arch of the black clad arm indicated the massive World President Residence and Offices all around and below them.

"He hoisted up the heaviest mantle he could fathom and let duty consume his every waking and sleeping hour, drowning out all other thoughts. There's nothing much heavier than the weight of the actual world, huh?"

"Guess not. That's what worries me most..."

Virgil's sigh was tinged with bottomless rue this time. Keeping busy with International Rescue is the one thing that keeps me from going crazy. The echo of the words biggest brother said to him so many years ago, on a dark, dark snowy night, rippled through memory. He hoped so much they were past... THAT stretch of self-destructive coping. For a blissful while, moreso after Dad got back, they were. Jeffy Jr. and Skye were born. It went unspoken between them all, but Jeffy was their golden chance at a Scott that was happy and carefree, encouraged and inspired by legacy, but not subsumed or crashed by it. But they were the Tracies, so the universe would never let them truly catch a break. Ever, it seemed...

Kayo, ever the psy-ops, ever the bereft family like them all, sensed a need to shift the subject to something brighter.

"Did you get to see Lucy rehearse?"

Virgil's whole face lit up immediately and he beamed at her.

"Oh yes! I was at the dress rehearsal, and she asked me to accompany her after lunch today, for vocal practice before the premiere! Though I think it's more of a courtesy - she's got world class concert pianists at her disposal."

Kayo was smiling fondly in return. Virgil's kids were as much a reflection of his kind and caring nature, and talent, as Scott's son and daughter were that of his consuming drive, focus, and dedication to duty. Okay, maybe not to go there at the moment! Kayo waved the imaginary wisps of hair out of her eyes to blink away unwarranted tears and regroup.

"Have you considered you're maybe Lucy's favorite world-class concert pianist?"

Virgil's smile was impish, yet full of love. A sudden idea occurred, as his glance fell on the Shadow, and made him gasp.

"Please, tell me he's not cowboying it here in Delta-One?!"

Kayo actually let herself laugh at the implication. They certainly wouldn't put it past Scott to ditch the entourage and take his augmented Thunderbird out for a spin.

"Relax! The Joint Chiefs requested an on-the-go meeting, so it's a scenic route across the Atlantic on a GDF bus. No Delta-drive jumps for our favorite Commander today. Besides, the whole media circus tagged along from NYC. Nobody would miss the World President's favorite niece perform Carmen at the Season opening of Vienna Opera."

"Scott doesn't have favorites!"

The response was automatic, which scored another of Kayo's smile. It wasn't quite a secret the family consensus placed Scott a higher ranking Dad in the overarching hierarchy of Tracy parents. Jeff Sr., the proud Grandpa, was more of a partner in crime and a co-conspirator to everyone's endless befuddlement.

Virgil's take-away from her previous statement was, however, unexpected.

"So there IS a situation?! Kayo, I need his stats THE MOMENT they land!"

"Nothing your Casey had warranted worthy of high treason to inform me about. Virgil, it's fine. He'll be fine!"

That was true. Virgil's second youngest was currently the Deputy Chief of Communications of the World President office and, besides Kayo herself, the family's trusty person on the inside. She virtually worshipped the ground her Big Uncle walked and would flag anything potentially too worrisome with regard to his mood or health. Besides, John would probably know in advance anyway if it were Bereznik or any number of regions giving grief du jour (something the World President himself probably didn't need to know about, for plausible deniability and a semblance of restful sleep).

Kayo made a point to amend her reassurance with a shoulder squeeze. Dark brown eyes turned to her were frantic again.

"Look after him, will you?!"

Kayo gave a firm nod in acknowledgement. A pang of an old heartache flared up. But it became a well practiced, tried and true spiel between them, through the years - he was burning himself to light up the world, she was the shadow.

*[spoiler alert] The relentless narrative logic and poetic symmetry part of me dictates that Scott, in the later arch of his journey, would, very likely, have to loose a son to his own legacy and footsteps. The way Jeff dodged a bullet (just barely). But the regular bleeding heart part of me screams in agony in the face of such abject tragedy and comes up with elaborate scenarios in my head how it all could eventually be okay. Dad Jeff couldn't have used up all of Tracy limit of miracles.

um no one asked but here’s some Val hcs I have:

killjoy knits and crochets, I like to think she learned this from a coworker at kingdom cause I think she’s a very creative person but can’t take a break for the life of her so crocheting and knitting is her way to be like all technical and stuff but take a nice break bc those activities (CAN BE) very relaxing

Raze can cook an amazing meal! I think she’s great at cooking and makes these beautifully looking and tasting meal however I think she struggles with baking since with cooking she does what I call the Asian way of cook; she just goes with the vibes of the meal and gets the right ratios every time but baking is like a fine delicate art so like as much as she tries she just cannot bake.

Sova bakes like a fucking master this man will and can bake anything he’s like “oh you want this really intricate baked good? I gotchu” and makes it. like wtf

He’s also not a natural blonde he actually has black brownish hair (it’s either a brownish black or a very very dark brown that looks black sometimes) and on this note he helps all the agents dye their hair when asked like he normally helps jett but sometimes gekko is lazy and asks for help, neon asks for help with the underdye she has, sometimes he helps yoru and fade too!

Phoenix gifts people cologne and perfume I have no reasoning for this other than I think it’s funny but he means it very well and gets the most fitting scents for everyone

sage cannot keep a plant alive for the life of her. She tries to hard but they all keep on dying some how. she gets distraught about it because everyone assumes she can and gets her plants but she can’t.

Skye regularly holds wood carving lessons at the protocol, all agents have stopped by at least once and she keeps everyone’s first attempt. Breach, Gekko, Killjoy, Raze, and Omen are the most frequent.

Yoru is very good at styling hair and will always give a hand to his fellow agents if needed, albeit reluctantly and constantly complaining. Sage and Skye don’t hear his complaints though.

Astra is pretty much the protocols 2nd mother. As much as everyone jokes sage is the mom, Astra does her part in watching over everyone! She helps out with minimal tasks, offers help to everyone, checks up on people and makes sure they’re doing alright, yells at people to take breaks (cypher, killjoy, sage, brimstone), keeps up a positive and lovely atmosphere and keeps everyone in line when needed!

K/AYO holds a game night every thursday night for everyone! Usually board games, sometimes video games. He has written very specific rules including: no playing Mario kart, Uno, and sorry. Monopoly is fine as long as no one gets into a fight. (He def has more, but these are the ones in BOLD)

Sova, Skye, and breach go on morning jogs together regularly! Others are free to join them! Fade and Deadlock tend to join them every now and then.

Deadlock and Sova r very much sibling energy but on a more chill level.

Gekko’s crew helps around the base a BUNCH. Wingman helps sage a lot, dizzy helps in the kitchen, thrash helps at the range, and mosh is very much emotional support.

On that note Jett and Neon ask jokingly for a therapist to be hired, Brimstone actually considers it every time because some people here are concerning then turns it down due to it being a security hazard.

Brimstone has a little box for people to put requests into: these requests can be about anything. Raze has asked for a free for all or team death match style of paintball! Viper, kj, cypher, and breach always ask for more equipment. Some agents ask for hobby stuff, trips, or group bonding. He goes through them every week and if it’s urgent like fixing something, they normally tell him or sage straight up.

Everyone in the protocol don’t really talk about their past, like ever. However, if the moment is right, they’ll drop a bomb to make a story or lesson really stick. Sova dropped the fact he has 5 sisters when Jett and Phoenix got into a fight and he had to tell them to quit it or else he’d make them hand write apologies together and stick them into a shirt like his sisters did to him and his younger sister. silly stuff like that nothing serious yk.

Also on the note of Sova (can you tell hes on of my favs) I don’t think he HATES cypher, just dislikes the fact he’s so secretive yet will through out information about others. He feels as if it’s hypocritical and dislikes this. idk if I explained this very well and can go more into detail it’s kinda fun I like cyberowl a lot !!

Harbor also realllyyy likes pottery, he’s a historian yk and sees a bunch of artifacts and pots that are from decades ago. He’s learned how to replicate and learned how respective periods made their pots/anything else clay related!! he’s very much into historical accuracy of how artistic things are made (ie paintings, clothes, pottery, and more)

responsible older siblings: brimstone, sage, sova, skye 

these people will always be looking out for you and your best interests. they're not really the type to allow you to get into trouble and are serious about setting a good example. this doesn’t mean they don't have fun with you (sova definitely does with archery and his owl drone), it's just that their idea of fun is a lot more restricted. they'll let you get away with a few things at most.

skye only allows you to get into trouble with her creatures. if she catches you doing anything you're not supposed to (or if she just chooses to invoke her power as an older sibling), she’ll probably make you take her woodworking class and participate in her morning runs.

sova and skye are more lenient than brimstone and sage, as you could probably guess.

if you pester him enough, sova would eventually give in with a heavy sigh and try to keep you from getting caught if you're up to something. he swears he won't let it happen again… until you give him puppy dog eyes, exploiting his one soft spot.

older siblings who do not care/are too busy to: viper, chamber, and (bonus) omen

nuff said. jk, they just…have looking after a younger sibling on a much lower priority than most other things, whether it be experimenting in the lab or working on gun design. that, or they just don't care in the first place. don't expect any family bonding time from them.

honorary mention: omen, but idk, he just kind of seems like a hit or miss with a younger sibling. he would probably be too preoccupied with figuring out his whole situation to take care of someone else. he may not even know how to express his consideration outside of knitting them something.

teasing/immature older siblings: phoenix, cypher, breach, jett, raze, astra

they relentlessly pick on you (in a lighthearted way), but at the end of the day, you're still their younger sibling. they'd never let anyone else outside of protocol talk to you like that. they do a lot of dumb stuff with you and pretty much enable tons of idiotic stuff. even though they're not the best role models, they sure do let you have fun.

cypher makes sure you eat well and keeps you out of trouble for the most part, but he'll bend a couple of rules for you. like sova, he'll keep you from getting caught, but sometimes, unlike sova…he’ll just partake as well.

phoenix, jett, and raze all must have babysitters of their own when watching you. they cannot be trusted.

cool older siblings: cypher, reyna, killjoy, yoru, astra, fade, neon, jett, and (bonus) phoenix

they let you get away with most stuff, and they end up being that sibling that you want to model yourself after because you're just so amazed at everything they do.

killjoy is mostly working in the lab (and in that way kind of goes in the ‘too busy to care’ category), but occasionally, she appears and gives you little robots to keep you company. then, she blips out of existence for another year. jk, she tries to spend time with you and teach you everything she knows in her lab, even if you don't understand half of what she's saying.

i was gonna put yoru in the teasing/immature category, but he's really just the teasing part of it. he's kind of ruthless with it. he wants to look cool and succeeds most of the time, and he’s not as immature as some of the people in there (phoenix in particular).

a normal conversation between you and neon is you saying, “wow, that was so cool, ate (older sister)!”, and her replying, “oh, uh, thanks?”

honorary mention: phoenix, but only because he wants to look cool but fails miserably.

i mean…how could you not find astra cool? she literally controls the cosmos

protective older siblings: cypher, reyna, omen, yoru, kay/o, neon, fade

the other agents would certainly stick up for you, but these are the people who would kill for you if it came down to it…that may be a bit of a stretch for some, but they’ll definitely take all precautions when it comes to your safety and would go a step further when actually defending you.

kay/o MAY go in the category with viper and chamber, but honestly, after losing brimstone (who he was obviously very close to), i would imagine that he's learned how to care and have close relationships with others, including a familial one with you. and he doesn’t want to lose you too.

neon may not seem like she's on the same level as the other people here, but she is still really passionate about her family and may not be able to control herself and her anger when it comes to you.

yoru can obviously fight, and if he finds out that someone other than him (and the protocol, he guesses) is being mean to you, they're getting those hands.

cypher and fade are definitely going to be revealing all the secrets and fears of people who hurt you. only if you want them to, though. 

omen, as i said, is a hit or miss, but if he does care, he cares deeply, and he’ll do everything in his power to give your enemies a nightmare.

Panromantic asexual— I think KJ is just someone who’s not that interested in sex, but romantically a lot of people

Omen is genderqueer (using all pronouns)— as their old life fades from their mind, I think they could find solace in gender expression and how they present. They’ve been called a lot of things— demon, a hollow shell of a man, but none of those feel quite right. Being genderqueer gives Omen a sense of control and for the first time, a label that feels right to them

Even though he can struggle with corporeality sometimes, he really enjoys giving hand jobs— it gives them something to focus their form on (though if Omen gets really excited, he might disappear into smoke a bit)

They are the ultimate malewife in the relationship

Phoenix

As said with the Jett HC, they were their realizations that they were queer

On Phoenix’s half, I see him as bisexual, with a leaning toward men (as for Jett, it just wasn’t the right fit— but it was being with her that made him realize he had a much larger potential for who he could love)

He would bug Yoru into showing him his drag fits and want to try it out

Raze

Lesbian all the way! Raze loves the deepness and explosivity of relationships with other women

Very respectful of KJ’s asexuality and they’ve had long talks about what each of their needs are

Doesn’t want to push KJ to have sex with her, but finds it amusing that KJ can make sex enjoyable for herself by making Raze the test subject

Not to get into explicit detail, but let’s just say Killjoy has definitely kept Raze up way longer than she expected

Reyna

While she may not identify as the term exactly, I think Reyna could be a graysexual lesbian, in the sense that she isn’t attracted to men, and doesn’t entirely enjoy sex

Headcanon that she faced a lot of pressure from being a conventionally attractive, authoritative latina— which pushed her into realizing she doesn’t enjoy male attention

If she is sexually attracted to someone, she’s into switching. She finds being top fun, but it’s a turn off if that’s expected of her all the time. Sometimes Reyna just wants to be taken care of :(

I think the Reyna/ Sage pairing is cute and could make for an interesting “coworkers to enemies to lovers” dynamic. They clearly have a lot of emotions toward each other, and their powers poetically contrast each other

She can be a bit of a sadist, especially if it’s a hookup, but tries to tone it down for Sage as their relationship develops

Sage

Didn’t think about sexuality for a long time, with pressures from her family and work

Following the first light incident and the awakening of her radiant abilities, Sage begins to finally self-reflect internally and honestly

Identifies primarily as gay/ queer. For all the nuance of Sage’s advice to others, she finds it enough to acknowledge that she loves differently and whom she loves is not who her parents expected of her

At the same time, Sage is the most likely to read up on queer discourse— she finds it interesting to see how others have grappled with the questions she has and how perspectives have changed over time within the LGBT+ community

Surprisingly really enjoys being a top and in control. It helps her relax and gives her a feeling of agency

In a pre-relationship to Reyna, perhaps Reyna was the first to realize her feelings, yet still acted aggressively. Sage took a long time to unwrap her identity and then eventually reached back out to Reyna, healing their past relationship

Skye

Queer and polyamorous— Skye loves to just go to a bar and meet others, have an adventure

While she doesn’t have particular kinks, she’s a very flexible and caring partner, would be happy to experiment with whatever

Most likely to settle on a farm with her partners, two dogs, and a myriad of other animals

Sova

The sort of person who always secretly knew he was gay. Also could see Sova as nonbinary, using they/he pronouns!

Didn’t really have to work through a lot of toxic masculinity to get to these realizations, as while sexuality/ gender aren’t really discussed where they’re from, it just wasn’t the focus

His hometown was so far north and cold that whoever brought in food was appreciated, regardless of gender. Survival and family was the largest emphasis

Enjoys wearing fur heeled boots as a treat to himself (also just when it’s cold enough to even warrant the boots they have from home)

They’re definitely either the gentlest top, or a power bottom

Not asexual, but highly touch starved from isolating herself in her work

Bisexual, with a leaning toward women/ nonbinary folk. She’s had relationships with men but they just don’t satisfy her the same way (also she’s tired of being underestimated in science because she’s a woman)

Yoru

Yoru does get better over time, even supporting Omen while they were figuring out their gender crisis. The two of them have always bonded in their teleportation abilities and this solidifies their relationship further

As a young woman Grandma used to hang around a lot of gay bars and had several relationships before meeting her husband. Right now grandma isn't focused on finding any relationships as she's more occupied by her role in IR.

Penny isn't sure of her orientation, she's quite private about personal things like dating so she's working it out by herself.
