it's the last week of studying before my certification exam! I haven't been studying very much, but I'm in the final stretch now so hopefully I can motivate myself to study a bit more!

notes from today:

I watched the eclipse! it was really cool. my phone camera picture of totality is really bad so instead I included my pic of the funky shadows haha

I made some decent progress with my code at work

I'm going to do a "knowledge share" with my coworkers once I finish this certification, so worked on some slides for that as a way to review

I'm going to play some stardew valley right after I post this bc I started a new playthrough for the 1.6 update! I've also been having a good time watching kickthepj's stardew streams on twitch :D

Got Starrail beta access, had to uninstall genshin, now have enough room for honkai, still have genshin on my ps5, falling in love with starrail, totk on the horizon, can't update my phone without losing access to starrail, i never update my phone immediately anyway, got to try a new RedBull flavor AND a new mountain dew flavor and they both taste good, slept till past noon, had taco bell last night, am currently wearing pants, can't wear the outfit i WANT to wear bc there's a fricking snowstorm, having pizza for dinner ON NATIONAL PIZZA DAY, finally quit playing sky bc of all their issues, kickthepj got hacked, Tighnari's voice actor is being replaced, got yelan, still freaking out over totk, brain is very full needs music, too full can't find the right music, new fall out boy music is happening, polls on tumblr are very fun, tumblr is pulling a lot of bullshit, can't update tumblr bc of it, cool sims stuff coming up, can't update sims bc my laptop is screaming, honkai is gonna take FOREVER to install, this is a diary entry.

(x) Sure! (With the caveat that I've only been watching DnP since 2019 so all my knowledge of the intersecting YouTube circles is just very secondhand). So Chris Kendall used to make his own YouTube videos and also appear in videos with KickThePJ (PJ Ligouri) and also with Dan and Phil. Chris went by the name Crabstickz. I think in the mid-2000's (maybe 2011? 2012?) they all collaborated on videos together, and for a while were known collectively as the "Fantastic Foursome" (which is why the AO3 tag for DnP exists as such). At some point they all stopped collaborating as a foursome and Chris basically disappeared for a time. I think every once in a while he'll still do something publicly and he still works with PJ sometimes (which is great -- I think Chris is a talented actor!). Dean Dobbs is also a (former?) YouTuber who has worked with all of them. Anyway, the joke in Dean's tweet is just that part of Chris's reputation is that he disappears for long periods and just pops up here and there, and no one really knows what he is up to, but people still miss him and wonder where he is and will grasp at straws (like hitting up Dean on a dating app to find out if he has any intel -- if that's actually what happened; Dean could just be making a joke) to see if they can get any updates.

Okay, here's the submission with youtuber recs, as promised!

First, there are two channels related to my special interest in tropes and storytelling.

Terrible Writing Advice is, not surprisingly, a channel full with satirical terrible writing advice. There is some actual good advice in between the lines as well, and the guy who runs it is straight up hilarious. He deals with pretty much every trope and genre in existence, and what he hasn't discussed he probably will soon. You'll notice love triangles are a pretty recurring theme. 46 videos so far, updates once or twice a month and as far as I can recall all videos are subtitled.

Overly Sarcastic Productions is run by two people: Red, who deals more with fiction, and Blue, who deals with history. Red is the one who illustrates the videos, and her drawing style is super cute, and they both also fill the background of their videos with jokes and fun remarks (you'll have to pause sometimes, but it's worth it!)

My favourite videos are Red's Trope Talks where she discusses various tropes in detail, but she also does summaries of various legends, classics and Shakespeare plays, and Blues despair over various historical figures is definitely worth watching as well. (I recently watched his video on the fall of Rome, and the intro made me laugh really, really hard.) Basically, their channel is "learn about stuff, but in a fun and engaging way!" About 80% of their videos are subtitled.

Finally, my absolute favourite youtuber ever: PJ Liguori, a.k.a. KickThePj. PJ (or Peej as the fans call him sometimes) is a British-Italian youtuber, absolutely adorable and the most unique, creative, talented person ever. His content is usually wildly creative, weirdly absurd or a mix of the two. The trailer for his side channel (PJtheKick) is a pretty good representation of how odd his videos can be sometimes.

Apart from more "regular" videos, he has also made a whole bunch of short films that are both entertaining and entrancing. Some of my favourites include Smokey Saloon, Ocean Kid, Inventor, PJ vs the Light Seekers, and Office Space; and among his other videos I'm quite fond of Creating Clouds and Other Stories, Comforting things to hear when you're feeling uneasy, and Giving Up. A lot of his videos are pretty wild and crazy, but the ones I've mentioned are among the calmer, more serene ones - he excels at that sort of thing.

PJ also draws a bit, and has a really fun style. He sometimes does Doodle Streams, where he'll just draw stuff - often things that are suggested in the chat. He is a fantastic photographer as well, and his Instagram contains quite a few gorgeous shots. (And for anyone that watches Dodie - he directed the music video for her song Monster, and it's pretty typical KickThePj style. He appears towards the end, at the same table as Dodie.)

That's about it for my long rant - hope someone enjoys these talented people and their vids! Maybe I've just supplied someone with a new hyperfixation?

AND re: my previous rant three paragraphs ago abt favorite animals, i also don’t believe in having a favorite color like why am i supposed to choose it’s not like having a favorite color is gonna affect my life not like if i say blue then suddenly my whole world will be blue or anything neat like that like literally it’s the most arbitrary question ever and i feel elitist picking one when there are so many good ones. all i can tell you is that my LEAST favorite color is orange

The KickThePj Survey

Hello!

In an effort to learn more about the KickThePj fanbase, we are pleased to announce the release of the KickThePj survey!

This survey will hopefully be able to explain things relating to the demographics of both Tiny Planet Explorers and casual viewers. The questions deal with things such as viewership, demographics, and personal opinions relating to PJ’s content. The results should be able to give insight as to what KickThePj fans are actually like thanks to a series of multiple choice questions including those about age, country, social media, what people think about PJ’s content, and how they feel about the things that PJ produces! We would really like for the results to be as diverse as possible, so even if you’ve only watched PJ a few times, please feel free to take the survey. The last day you will be able to take the survey is October 6, 2017 and once all the results are in, they will be posted for everyone to see on our Twitter and on our Tumblr.
