Recently started making little Kiln Spirits to watch over other ceramic pieces during the firing process <3

the kiln is empty and I had amazing luck this time. my kiln gods did their jobs! here’s the traditional collage of finished pieces ✨

I've been doing some sketches for my next clay creatures. The bean creature (beature?beanture?) will haunt my dreams but I will probably have to make it to appease the bean gods.

A fact: a god loses their divinity only when it is sealed, or when belief in them is lost.

Another fact: Hua Cheng ascended.

He was never banished - he simply abandoned heaven the moment he realized Xie Lian was not there. For many of the gods this is tantamount to a death sentence - to fade into obscurity. Hua Cheng’s survival without followers could be attributed to his ghostly origins, and his own self determination, which could be true but —

What if there was someone who sent a prayer up in remembrance of a small ghost fire who warmed a chill night. What if there was someone who lit incense for a nameless follower with a smiling mask who sacrificed everything to save everyone(someone). The offerings are meager, rare, but sincere - worth more than a million merits from gold.

Hua Cheng may be the Flower Crowned Prince’s most devoted follower. Faith, gratitude, and love, however, transform Xie Lian into Wu Ming’s steadfast believer.

I’ve been a pottery making machine these past few weeks!

there needs to be a chart somewhere for people like me who have a lot of special interests, which lists the starting costs for every type of hobby, and then tells you exactly why it would be a bad idea for you to start that hobby.

I just think it would help me if every time I got the sudden, sharp desire to start something new, I could go to a website that says something like, "really? you think you can afford a kiln? you think you can make room for a kiln? think again! go use up all that yarn you bought two years ago, or the seed beads, or the darkroom chemicals, and then we can talk."

also, love this before and after 😍 the way the glaze and underglaze wash totally transform the vibe

This afternoon's glazing involved a whole bunch of little dudes and some small plates too! I did some experimental layering, and I hope the textures of the birbs make for some cool effects.

They're in the hands of the kiln gods now.
