"Mama's gonna kill me." David said and looked down at his shaking hands. "She's gonna kill me. Pa's gonna kill me. Sarah's gonna be so upset. I was supposed to protect him, Jack. I'm supposed to keep him safe."

"Dave, ya did keep him safe-"

He looked at the stains on his shirt and looked up at Jack with wide eyes. His hands continued to shake violently as he helplessly wiped at his undershirt. "I got- I got blood on my shirt. It's gonna stain, Mama isn't gonna know how to get a blood stain out of my shirt-"

"Dave. It'll wash right off. Stop worrying about stupid stuff. Are you-"

"I could've killed him, Jack. He was sputtering underneath me and I thought he was gonna die, and I didn't stop. I would've killed him," David's voice was caught in his throat. "I think I might throw up."

Jack sighed and sat across from the boy. "You ain't gonna throw up, Davey. It's gonna be alright. You know we wouldn't let you kill anyone. Ya family need's ya too much for us to let you get locked up."

David held his shaking, raw, bloody fists up to his chest. "I was supposed to keep him safe."

"Les is okay, David. He was downstairs playing pirates with the other boys just a couple of minutes ago. You did good, Dave. Ya kept him safe," Jack said.

"It wouldn't have happened if I had just sold with him like he had asked me too."

Jack sighed again, deeply. He waved the other boy over. "Come here, let me hold you." David got up, his entire body continued to shake as he fell into Jack's arms.

"Look," Jack said as he took David's hands into his own. "Ya hand's all dirty, all bloody." He spit into his shirt—which made David wince—and wiped at the other boy's knuckles. The blood came off and stained his white shirt. "But underneath it's still all nice and clean. Ya know why? Cuz ya ain't dirty, or mean, or cruel. You've got good intentions. Any one of us woulda reacted the same way if we had gotten to the guy first."

David took a deep, shaky, breath and nodded his head. "Can you walk us home? You can stay the night, so you don't have to walk back so late."

"I'd walk anywhere for ya, Dave. Ya know that."

Shout out to the Midna people

Okay, this is half a vent post, half me talking about Midna. So here we go. XD

I have this guy friend of mine who is a huge Zelda nerd. Him and I occasionally hit on each other and discuss if we’d be a good couple, but at the same time, he’s extremely in love with this other girl who turned him down but is a close friend of his. (He says we are his two closest friends.) 

No matter how many times we discuss dating, he always brings up the girl. He’s really hung up on her. And that’s fine. It’s annoying. But WHATEVER. XD

We always joke about how all his fictional crushes are long haired princessy characters. (Aerieth, Zelda, etc.) And I am very not that. XD I have short curly hair, and I look like a bisexual Miss Frizzle.

When he was talking about princesses he had a crush on, I asked him, “What about Midna? She’s a princess.” 

And immediately he was like, “Nah. She’s too out there for me.”  Fun fact? We compared me to Midna sometimes. So without him knowing, he kinda revealed where his heart really was. And I still and wasn’t gonna be it.  And so I just threw the feelings for him out da window. XD

ALL THAT SAID. 

SHOUT OUT TO THE MIDNAS. To the people who get tossed to the side just by being themselves. We ain’t Ilia. So apparently we ain’t it. And that’s okay. We are strong, loyal, sassy, sexy, and FUN humans. And that’s one of the best types of people to be. 

Ilia people and princessy people? I LOVE EM. I SUPPORT EM. YOU GO QUEEN. I have no beef with them at all. They are all kings and queens and rulers. We love em, slay baby. 

But shout out to the odd balls, weirdos, folks who are “out there”, the ones who didn’t grow up the same way, have the same beliefs, or think like everyone else. YOU ARE VALID. YOU ARE APPRECIATED. And this world is ten million times better with you here. Go find a pack of other weirdos and allow yourself to be crazy.
