OMG I thought you would never ask!! 🥰

First of all, and most obviously, he's an AMAZING dad. Before the Kira case, he showed up for everything, and took as much paternity leave as he could. During the case, he obviously struggles with work-life balance, but he knows his kids come first. I think before the time skip, he had a really hard time missing out. He hated how much he was gone, but he also struggles with the guilt of feeling like he abandoned Ukita, but as he heals his grief, he accepts that he can be there. And soon, he's there at almost every game, performance, concert, play, you name it. If he's not, Eriko is recording it for him. He's also the kind of dad to pack his kids' favorite lunches when he gets the chance. It doesn't matter how unhealthy they are, Aizawa just wants to see them happy. Eriko is a little annoyed when Yumi comes home with Cheeto fingers and a stomach ache though lol.

Speaking of Eriko, I know this is super niche, but I head canon her as Jewish. I know that's super rare in Japan, but as a part-Asian Jew, I love the mix lol. I imagine her making matzo ball ramen and lox sushi! I think Aizawa, while goyische, is super supportive. He's great on Shabbat. On Saturday, he makes breakfast before the kids and Eriko wake up so they can have something warm without needing to use appliances. Although, even after being married for ten years, he still forgets if shrimp is kosher, but he remembers when Eriko gets mad at him for putting his leftover tempura in the fridge ("I accepted a trief husband, but I will not accept a trief house!!!").

Oh and I totally imagine Matsuda making quite a few blunders about this hfkjdfhjdjk. He means well, but it comes out wrong sometimes. Like the first time he learns she's Jewish, he immediately says "Oh so that's why you guys never hosted the Christmas party" and Soichiro is quick to be like "MATSUDA." He definitely accidentally gifts Eriko a pentagram... Twice. He really did his research the second time, but they look so similar!!! He does finally get her a Magen David the third time though lol.

I also think Aizawa is a car guy, like the kind of car guy who can see a single frame of a car go past in a movie and identify the make, model, and, year. He's always browsing those vintage car auction sites and he regularly shows Eriko the old car he desperately needs, and she has to be like "your money needs to go feeding our children and not a 50 year old car" and he's like a little kid when he says "but I waaaaaaaant it," and I definitely think he takes Yumi to cars and coffee with him. He always gets her a pastry and hot chocolate. She always wants to try his coffee and every time she freaks out at how bitter it is, but he has such an emotional moment when he takes her as a teenager and she orders her own coffee, and he's like "my little girl is growing up 🥺."

And, going back in time a little bit, when Eriko is pregnant with Yumi, I don't imagine Aizawa being super open about it since he prefers to keep his work and private life more separate. So, it's not until his wife is like 8 and a half months pregnant that he goes to Soichiro to ask for paternity leave, and Soichiro is like "YOU'RE HAVING A BABY???? YOU'RE MARRIED???" and he gets absolutely peppered with questions and excitement that he has to awkwardly accept from the whole office before he gets his paternity leave approved lol.

"I've heard of Chinami-san from Kira-san. Apparently, she thinks very highly of her older sister. She works as a soothsayer, or a fortune-teller. I'll admit, at first I thought she was some sort of con artist, but some of my classmates say that her fortunes are actually real! Admittedly, most of their questions revolve around things you'd hear from students, like boyfriends, girlfriends, whether they're going to pass a test, be Homecoming Queen or King, or other things of that nature. Me, if possible, I'd like to ask her just who exactly my father is and why all the adults in my life seem to hide him from me..."

"Believe it or not, I actually admire and respect Kira-san. I heard that she took over the position of Vice Chief of the Administrative Inspection Bureau after the former woman was arrested. I don't know much about what her position entails, but from what Nemu-san tells me, she basically controls much of what goes in and out of Japan, which makes her one of the most powerful women in all of Chuohku, let alone the country."

"Besides that, despite how she may act when she is off the clock, when she steps into Chuohku and dons her uniform, Kira-san is all about business. I don't know much about her save the fact that she used to serve in the army and now works as a police investigator. She's a definite step-up from Jyuto-san of Yokohama. She can be a little... demanding when it comes to making plans. She likes to be very thorough. I admire that, though I wish she would relax at times..."

"Ugh, and here we have my least favorite of this team. Unlike her older sisters, who are exactly doing things to help Japan and its people, she would prefer to spend her time performing little magic tricks and such. I'm not demeaning her or anything. I know she used to be part of a circus troupe, but you'd think she'd have something else to show for it. Plus, I've been hearing a lot about this supposed thief called, "The Misfit in Action". And this girl's MC name is "Misfit."

"I don't want to accuse her of anything, but if she is that thief everyone's been talking about, then I'd better report her to Kira-san, so she can do something about."

"A sibling team... just like Ichiro-san and his younger brothers. Unlike them though, I'm a bit perplexed as to the reasons for why they're entering. Apparently, it's because Chinami-san refused Otome-sama's offer to be her personal soothsayer. ...That's shocking, to say the least. I didn't think the Prime Minister actually believed in fortunes. But if Chinami-san's fortunes are as good as everyone makes them out to be, I can see why the Prime Minister would want access to them. I don't know why Chinami-san refused. Working for the Prime Minister should be an honor that everyone should accept. I wonder how Kira-san is taking this..."

"But regardless, facing this team will be difficult, especially if Chinami-san decides to use her fortunes to help her win. ...I wonder... is this why the Prime Minister forced her to join the D.R.B.? i really liked your aizamatsu headcanons they were so cute,,,, what are your headcanons about them post kira??

i'm glad you enjoyed, and i am so willing to talk about them post-kira!

i'll split this into two parts, them the first couple of years post-kira, and then the far future post-kira.

TW for severe depression, mental health issues, mentions of suicide (no one attempts or commits)

2010:

out of the four task force members still alive, matsuda was the most impacted. he becomes very depressed post-kira: struggling to get out of bed, to eat or drink, basic hygiene, not to mention the nightmares. before the post-kira era, matsuda had been doing the emotional labour of the relationship because he was more emotionally inclined and less impacted by toxic masculinity in that way (tough conversations, expressing discomfort, etc).

post-kira, however, aizawa had to take on this role because matsuda wasn't in a position to. he has to be the comforter and the motivator and the optimist, which is a very tough position for him.

with soichiro dead and the case basically isolating them from outside interaction, they only really have each other. they become a lot closer than before, it's them vs. the world

at light's funeral, matsuda hid his head in aizawa's shoulder through the entire ceremony because he couldn't bring himself to look at the coffin.

biiiit NSFW but before post-kira era, these two had an active sex life, like the romantic chemistry was slow but the sexual chemistry was off the charts. that all stops post-kira. it never entirely recovers as they get older

aizawa starts buying flowers for the apartment and baskets of fruit, listening to the songs that used to be matsuda's favourites (even though he hates them personally); he thinks he's doing this to brighten the place up a little, doesn't realise he's actually mourning his boyfriend

whenever ide or mogi ask aizawa "are you okay?" aizawa forms a habit of replying something like "it's a good day, touta went for a walk with me" or "it's a bad day, touta hasn't left his bed" rather than talking about himself. kind of neglected his emotional needs for a while there. both enter therapy to say the least.

matsuda voices aloud suicidal thoughts to aizawa one day, and scares him so badly that he willingly goes into therapy a week later so aizawa is never that upset again.

at this time, ide and mogi both know they're dating but no one else does. light knew from the time aizawa was at the hospital after the explosion, but soichiro didn't (he died before he ever found out). the chief never being told is one of matsuda's biggest regrets.

aizawa calls matsuda "sunshine", before post-kira it was a reference to matsuda's sunny personality but post-kira it's like holding onto hope that things will be okay at some point, a link to a brighter past.

aizawa cooks the meals, drags matsuda out of bed, gets him back into contact with the yagamis, everything. having someone else to take care of distracts him from his own frustrations and own troubles, so he throws himself into it with gusto

when matsuda wakes from a nightmare, aizawa has to hold his hands to remind him that he isn't holding a gun.

on his bad days, matsuda begs aizawa to leave him because he thinks he deserves it, aizawa refuses vehemently.

2011 onwards (it gets happier from here I promise):

for a while, they do both couple's counselling and individual. the couple's counselling is mostly to get help with making their relationship more balanced, because the relationship labor so to speak went from being overwhelmingly matsuda to overwhelmingly aizawa and that's not healthy at all

they get a dog! it's one of those quiet, big, cuddly dogs and both of them adore her.

regarding yumi: as part of the divorce arrangement, aizawa got phone calls with her but didn't really get to visit (busy life and how divorce works in japan, partial custody not a thing). they're really really close and have an honest relationship with each other. yumi meets matsuda over the phone in 2013 maybe (yumi is around 15 at this time) and they hit it off very quickly. aizawa does not elaborate on how long they had been dating for (five years) until much, much later.

aizawa's family (parents, sisters, etc) adore matsuda from the first meeting. it takes matsuda's family a while to warm up to aizawa.

if matsuda is having a sad day, aizawa buys him some sunflowers to cheer him up. he's a actions sort of guy.

both love chocolate and chocolate chip cookies (even though aizawa is not a sweet tooth), so they have plenty of it in stock

matsuda hacks into aizawa's phone to change his ringtones to songs that would annoy him frequently, aizawa never changes his password for whatever reason

lots of forehead kisses, in fact, just a lot of kisses. after the shitstorm of 2010, aizawa has learned not to take his boyfriend's affectionate nature for granted.

these are all the ones i could come up with for now, because i had some then completely forgot them the moment i wrote this post, but i am a limitless bucket of headcanons at this point. thank you so much for the ask!

In the Yagami household, the children follow the path of their parents. Light stays in his room, studying until he goes mad and talks to himself presumably, and Sayu comes home tired, too tired to do her homework. Not after the day she has had. Not in a world of Kira. No, watching her idol is far more relaxing. 

Her mother looks at her, and Sayu knows what she would say without listening. "Kira or no Kira, you shouldn't slack on your schoolwork"

That she doesn't say, means she does remember enough. Being a teenager is tough, and being a teenage Rooder is tougher. 

Light is a boy, and that means he follows Father into Policework. You are your Mothers daughter, and that means you are a Rooder, as your grandmother was, and your ancestors before you. 

Your mother always told stories about myths when you were a child. Now that you are old enough to know why, you are not sure what to think of her for it. It's cool when Sayu was a little girl getting lessons in ningata, yumi, and history. Memorizing spells and magic item use is fun as a kid. Less fun to put your knowledge and skill to use. Sayu looks forward to adulthood. None of her ancestors were a teenage rooder in the time of Kira.

Kira. At first Sayu thought it might be easier to be a Rooder in the age of Kira. And maybe it will be for future rooders. But now Sayu is kept so busy by all of the recent dead that she barely has time to herself. Lights door stays shut, his voice muttering about something inside. Sayu is too tired to eavesdrop anymore.

She doesn't really care about what Light gets up to these days. He's never home.

Sayu gets on the plane. She has newspapers to read up on for the last case she will take on before her birthday.

She feels tired . Maybe for a few minuets she could sleep. Just to cacth up.

She doesn't notice her drink spalsh on the floor.

When she wakes up, she notices many alarming things.

The lack of light. 

The duct tape binding her.

The cramped position she is in.

She tries not to panic

Once, Light had showed her a Tutorial for how to get out of duct tape. 

She washes her hands. She doesn't know if the tape is rolled. If not, maybe this can roll it. 

She doesn't know how long she spends on the floor of a car washing her hands backwards. By the time her hands are free, her skin feels raw. 

She feels her clothes to try to find something that could free her feet, and feels the rustle of paper. 

She pulls it out. 

It's the newspaper clippings. 

Well Shit. 

It's a shot in the dark (literally and figuratively ), but assuming she doesn't get killed on entry, she does have better odds in a place she can move, over unknown destination she is being taken to in the back of a trunk. 

Between an unkown destination and murder victims, she will take the victims. At least its familar after all these years

It's time to see if she can use blood and a newspaper to create a portal blind.

Mello is outraged to discover that the confirmed capture of Sayu Yagami was subverted when she managed to disappear from a locked trunk, upon opening it and finding no sign of tampering. 

Searches of the road find no sign of her either. 

Maybe she was Kira. 

It's not like anyone can give him a good explanation for how it happened.

On the night of January 28, the Kira Task Force was in shambles.

Some people cried, others screamed, some could do nothing but return home and keep their newfound knowledge hidden from the world.

Shuuichi Aizawa was one of the latter.

He could barely stand to even sit in the same car that had taken all of them to the Yellow Box.

So, he left as soon as he could, longing to see his daughter, Yumi.

When he came home, Eriko was cooking dinner, and Yumi sat at the dining table doing her homework.

As Shuuichi stepped further into his home, Yumi jumped up from her homework and smiled. “Dad!”

She ran up to him, gearing up for a hug. Shuuichi laughed.

“Not now, Yumi. I need to take a quick power nap. Work was stressful today. Also, you need to finish your homework.”

Yumi pouted, but conceded. Shuuichi looked to Eriko, who nodded.

The officer walked to his bedroom, locking the door behind him when he arrived at his destination.

He stood frozen at the door for a brief moment, before feeling the air around him grow colder.

Light was dead.

Kira was dead.

Light had been Kira all along.

Shuuichi was right.

For once, he hated that feeling.

He knew Light and Takada were exchanging notes, he knew that the thirteen-day rule lined up way too perfectly in Light’s favor.

But he still couldn’t believe Light could be Kira.

Was it some kind of loyalty to the late chief? Did he not believe that a man he had looked up to for years could raise a monster?

Shuuichi didn’t even know.

But his thoughts of the elder Yagami still lingered.

What would the chief say if he saw his son laugh so maniacally, so sure he had won?

What would he do if his son had attempted to kill everyone in the room, right then and there, for some sick sense of justice?

But he was gone anyways, so those thoughts didn’t matter in the long run.

God, how would he face the rest of the Task Force at work?

He finally moved to lie down.

The power nap excuse had just been a way to spend some time alone for a while, but the idea of sleep sounded good at that moment.

So, Shuuichi prayed for Kira-less dreams.

Maybe a dream where he was wrong.
