Despite being such a popular Nintendo character, Waluigi has never had a game to call his own. But a new Super Mario 64 ROM hack, Waluigi’s Taco Stand, finally corrects this grave injustice.

This new N64 game is the work of renowned Super Mario 64 modder Kaze Emanuar. They’ve made a number of mods, including the recent mash-up Super Zelda 64: Ocarina of Time.

Waluigi’s Taco Stand is based on a fanfiction of the same name.

After blowing all his coins at the local casino, Waluigi is unable to make his rent. To repay his debt and avoid eviction, he must run his Koopa Troopa landlord’s taco stand.

But it’s not a case of simply handing over tacos to hungry customers. For every single order a sombrero-wearing Waluigi must enter a mini-level and personally source the ingredients.

Customers are very picky. So it’s important to remember what they’ve ordered. If you don’t collect exactly what they ask for, you’ll have to do the whole order again.

The game is set across four stages. As you make more tacos, you’ll rank up and progress to the next stage.

Unsurprisingly, Waluigi’s Taco Stand plays almost exactly like Super Mario 64. Waluigi has the same innate jump and attack abilities. He can also use the classic Wing Cap power-up.

However, Waluigi’s clearly superior physical prowess has not been forgotten. He can’t take any damage from enemies or falling great heights. What a champ!

Free-range ingredients

Searching for taco fillings is fairly straightforward. Tomatoes and lettuces are found in the ground, whereas meat ingredients come from enemy creatures.

If you ever thought beef came from cows then you’re wrong – it’s actually Goombas. Slightly more worrying is the fact that Goombas also endorse cannibalism, given how many of them order beef tacos at the stand.

Some ingredients are surprisingly tricky to get hold of. To source chicken, for example, you have to use the Wing Cap and fly into a Klepto.

Once you’ve collected every item you need, you can then choose to serve the taco using the pause menu.

Waluigi’s Taco Stand is short, simple and endearingly silly. It re-uses a lot of Super Mario 64’s assets, but also includes music and sound effects from other N64 games, such as Mario Kart 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Best of all, there are plenty of Waluigi voice clips to give the game a truly authentic feel. There’s more than enough “WAH” factor here.

How can I play Waluigi’s Taco Stand?

You must download the files and patch them to a clean ROM of Super Mario 64.

You can find a link to the files in the Waluigi’s Taco Stand launch video description. However, you will have to find the Super Mario 64 ROM elsewhere. This may be a bit difficult as many ROM sites are currently closing down.

The video below provides an overview of the patching process. The Waluigi’s Taco Stand download files include patching software, so you don’t need to source this separately.

Will it run on original hardware?

Yes! This is one of the very few Kaze Emanuar mods that actually works on original N64 hardware.

We played through the entire game on original hardware, and initially didn’t encounter any performance issues. However, the game froze during our second playthrough when we tried to pick up the Wing Cap power-up. So your mileage may vary – it may be that we just got lucky the first time round!

It’s nice to see Nintendo’s hugely under-represented anti-hero get the sort of attention he deserves. And that fact it’s on the N64 – the very console where Waluigi made his first appearance – makes it all the better.

I’ll cop to being, at best, a casual anime fan and an incidental nintendo fan like some sort of goose that got lost on migration and decided to stay for the catchy musical score but I’ve had a thought that’s been making me laugh for like 20 min now:

Replacing any Shonen Protagonist with Legend of Zelda’s Protagonist Horrible Klepto Gremlin and Professional Fightboy,  Link.

Doesn’t matter which link beyond “what’s funniest in this particular scenario”.  Maybe a specific Link, maybe an amalgamation of all Links into a superpowered multidimensional agent of Chaos.  A HyperLink, if you will.

Then plop that bad boy down into the start of any Shonen anime and watch it go completely off the rails.

Juevenile Delinquent With A Heart Of Gold Link (really, could you imagine Link in a middle school setting?  not for more than five minutes before he jumps out of the Designated Protagonist Window at the back of the classroom)  dives in front of a car to save a small child’s life.  Botan, the grim reaper in the form of a blue-haired anime hot chick, comes to explain his peculiar situation, only for him to get up halfway through the speech about Karma becuase he still, somehow, has half a heart left, baffling everyone.

Local Weirdo Link hangs out in a graveyard every night graverobbing Communing With The Spirits, until Some Nerd keeps getting him into weird situations and eventually he ends up on a plane to America to participate in some kind of tournament for godhood. They get all the way to the third round before anyone realized Link doesn’t have a spirit companion, he’s his own Kickass Sword Dude.

Famously Young Orphan Link attempts an arcane ritual to bring his mother back, only to be confronted with a Manifestation of all Knowledge In The Universe, who then attempts to take his limbs and a sibling. Link, who has kicked several gods and the actual spacetime continum in the dick before, does not stand for this Malarkey

Chronically Ill superhero Toshionori Yagi is looking for someone to take up the quirk One For All and is impressed by the courage of a young maniac attempting to protect the people of the town from a monstrous villain whilst armed with a pointed stick, and takes him on as his apprentice.  Link, surprised to be starting with the Triforce of Power this time, is agreeable to this, and attends superhero high school in hopes of locating the triforces of Courage and Wisdom.

Related question: Is Link Literate?  I know him through fragmentary playthroughs of Breath of The Wild, the one with the bird, and the one with the boat and I honestly don’t know if he can read.

Professional Monster Ass-Kicker and Sword Collector Link arrives in The Seritei and promptly goes after the Tall Dude With The Elaborate Hair That Monolouges About Power on the assumption he’s found Ganondorf again, and gives Zaraki Kenpachi the fight of his life.

The residents of the Village hidden in the lead poisoning Leaves avoid the blond boy with the rap sheet of misdemeanors a mile long and constant nonsensical yelling, assuming his strange ways are due to the fox spirit the previous Mayor of Murdertown stuffed into his intestines as a baby. Several Hundred Episodes, a completely destroyed chunin exam and a lot of screaming later, Kyubei comments  “No, he’s Just Like That.”

The only Shonen Anime Link doesn’t completely send off the rails one way or another is the orginal Dragonball, becuase accepting an extensive and bizzare fetchquest from a random blue-haired chick is 100% in-character for any and all Links.

Zelda - I think it’s called a prop thief? She’ll snag bits of leaves like the little plant klepto she is and cultivate them into full plants when she gets home. Succulents are not sacred in her house and nor are yours. Modern AU Zelda has probably gotten kicked out of a butterfly garden for trying to take part of an exotic plant without even thinking about it.

Astoria - Cannot function in a neat house. There always has to be some sort of blanket on the floor, cushion upside down, something out of place or she will resort to pulling threads out of her clothes. She doesn’t know why, but that one bit of something disorderly actually helps her focus. Will do it in someone else’s house because it’s so bad she won’t be able to hold a conversation.

Miriyam - Lying about which hand is her dominant. Growing up she was left-handed, but the person who taught her to use a sword after she left the Scourgelands was right handed and refused to teach her any other way. So she lied about her dominant hand to learn the sword from that person, and she got so used to lying about which hand was her dominant one that even now she kinda forgets sometimes. (She’s now actually very adept with both hands, so fuck that trainer in particular because she’s the only ambidextrous swordsman she’s ever met)

What do you think Link would be like in the BNHA world? Because while he was a hero in Hyrule, I don't think he'd be able to get away with half the crap he does on a regular basis in the BNHA world.

Hm, this is a really interesting question! I think it depends mainly on whether or not he can remember his past incarnations. 

This is a bit of a long one, fair warning, so the theory and stuff is under the cut!

In the games, generally Link shows little to no awareness of his past incarnations (partially as a favor to the player, particularly new players who wouldn’t be able to just jump in knowing what was happening like veteran players, or like Link himself might be able to) so if we go by the assumption that that trend continues, he’d absolutely join U.A and become a hero. 

Link is, while a chaotic goblin child, also generally very eager to please and help people in authority figures (Impa, King Rhoam, Sahasralas, King Dorephan, etc.) mostly because in almost every iteration he’s either born into a military role or joins voluntarily. In Skyward Sword, he was the top of his class in the knight academy on Skyloft, in Hyrule Warriors he starts the game as a recruit in the army and within a few battles is leading an entire third of the Hyrule military by himself, just because Impa told him to, and of course in BOTW he’s a knight of Hyrule (the fact that Link, androgynous klepto goblin extraordinaire, has definitely been referred to as Ser Link of Hyrule is wild, I should also mention). These positions are difficult to achieve, and you absolutely have to have a deep respect for authority to get there. 

So, if Link doesn’t remember his past reincarnations, then he’d take to U.A and hero society like a fish to water, guided only by intuition and his profound desire to help and please people. However, I do think some of his more... chaotic tendencies, for lack of a better term, would get in trouble. I had like an entire paragraph of how he would fare in 1-A, but it was really convoluted and weird so instead I’m gonna bullet point some of the highlights of this before I move onto the other theory: 

He’s reckless, even more so than Midoriya or Bakugo sometimes, with a complete lack of regard for his own well being, something which absolutely grinds Aizawa’s gears. 

He gets along surprisingly well with Iida! Both of them have that deep respect for authority that I mentioned earlier.

However, Link’s tendency for sticky fingers and complete obliviousness to the concept of privacy and appropriateness cranks his anxiety up to an eleven sometimes. 

The boys in 1-A (excluding Iida who I’ve already mentioned) are terrified of him, both for his power in androgyny (he may go by he/him, but don’t be fooled, he’s never met gender in his life, and he loves how swishy the girls’ skirts are) and for how much of an absolute powerhouse he is in combat. 

Link is supposedly untrained in combat, but his ability to pick up any weapon that has ever existed and use it with the comfort and skill of someone who’s trained with it their whole lives is objectively terrifiying. 

The girls adore him. He’s down to earth and honestly really fun, if strange as all hell. It also helps that during the combat simulations on the second day of school he punted Mineta into a brick wall so hard it cracked. (Kaminari immediately vows to give up on his playboy ways the moment Link turns away from where he’d punted the grape and raises an eyebrow at him, as though challenging him to make a similar comment.) 

Momo and Tsu in particular take to him, liking his quiet, deceptively observant demeanor. Momo learns more about medieval/feudal weaponry for him and eventually helps him make something he insists on calling a paraglider, and the three of them end up becoming a team on their own, each using their abilities as well as the creations they designed together (with the help of Mei, of course, who is fascinated by Link and his wack equipment ideas) to unleash devastating attacks on their opponents in team battles.

On a completely separate note, I think he’d actually have a couple different hero costumes, to the surprise and delight of Mei, who made a point to be the one working with him on his equipment. Similar to BOTW, and even OOT to an extent, he has outfits for different purposes, though they stick to a similar color/theme across them, a mix of sky blue and forest green with the tri-force design incorporated somewhere (though he has no explanation for why he’s drawn to that symbol, he makes sure it’s always included).

As a final couple of points, I would like to return to his complete lack of awareness when it comes to most social faux pas. He is chaos incarnate, and he has absolutely no time to deal with whether something is considered appropriate. 

It’s even worse when they get to the dorms. The day they move in he ends up showing up a bit late, carrying an extra suitcase of random junk he absolutely could not bear to leave at home (there’s no way he’s not still a packrat), and the group sitting in the living room all watch as he catches sight of a potted plant in the corner, drops his suitcase, and lunges for it.

They remove the other potted plants from the common areas after that incident. 

Now, the other possibility. If Link does remember his incarnations, I don’t think he’d be able to bring himself to become a hero, at least not in the typical sense. He’d see the corruption in the hero system, particularly how heroes like endeavor treat not only their fans, but their families (I refuse to believe there’s not some circles of people somewhere on the internet who haven’t realized something is wrong with the man and investigated him in some way. And if they do exist, Link’s seen them, the evidence of corruption all the way to the highest levels of hero society only cementing his distaste for them). 

I think he becomes a vigilante, doing his best to track down Ganon and Zelda in whatever forms and roles they’ve taken in this new cycle, while still helping people wherever he can. He almost becomes spider-man like in his reputation, the media and hero society calling him a glorified villain, while civilians hail him as one of the few true heroes left in the world. Link refuses to hide his face or identity, showing the world exactly who he is at the expense of his own safety. As a vigilante, I think his costume would be something like the sheikah/stealth set, though with the Hyrulian royal crest instead of the sheikah’s crest, and eventually the symbol starts popping up around the city, hidden in plain site in the decor, or in the shadier parts of town outright painted on doors and windows of shops and homes, signals to show both support for the masked hero, and the offer of a safe place to rest during the day. 

It’s difficult for Link, forced to cloak himself in the shadow, ignoring every part of him that wants to trust those who’re supposed to help in the fight against evil. But every time he looks at endeavor he remembers a life when he was called the hero of time, and the shadowy king with fiery hair who poisoned his people and flooded Hyrule with monsters and malice, and it steels his resolve to continue. Well, that and the knowledge that the law would be less than forgiving of his more... odd habits. 

Anyway, this is all just sort of rambled off the top of my head, but I think I explained what I thought decently well. Thank you so much for the ask, this was a really fun concept! I’d love to do more on it if anyone would be interested in that. And I’m sorry it was so ridiculously long, I really got into this one lol. Have a good day anon!

THE SIMS 5 ULTIMATE WISHLIST

I don’t want to overlook the Sims 4 game in present day.  Get Famous expansion pack is coming out in just a few weeks and probably a good amount of new packs over the next couple of years.  But like everyone else,  it’s always exciting to think about what could be coming next for a video game. I personally don’t expect the Sims 5 to be available until the year 2020 or later, but in the meantime let’s start wishing for things that we want to see.

Open World

In the Sims 3 one of my favorite things was to walk around the world and steal cars.  You could also just get out of the house without going through a loading screen. The loading screens wouldn’t be so bad if you could visit the small area around you but to get to the house next door you must “travel” there.  

Imagine big open worlds.  Grand Theft Auto 5 open world meets The Sims.  Where the content isn’t trickled out over 5 years in DLC’s.  Getting a base game with businesses, animals, vampires, and weather.  For almost 20 years over all the sims versions we’ve been sold the same stuff over and over.  Just looks different from generation to generation. Of course we’ll still buy whatever they churn out but it would be nice for once to play the Sims in new exciting ways.  

What’s In This Big Open World?  Intuitive Indicators. (Enhanced Interactions)

It’s not a new experience just adding more real estate, lots, and expanding the terrain.  I really would like to see this game evolve into something new. For example, traditionally in order to visit the neighbor you’d have to click on the house, go through a pie menu, before you can take that action.  I’d love to be able just to use the arrow keys or controller to move my sim around. Once you arrive to interact with an object, click to knock or better yet why can’t it be a proximity pie menu. Just being by a door an intuitive indicator “knock on door” pops up and you walk into the indicator to knock on the door.  

Imagine if cars are in the world and you can control them with arrow keys or controller instead of clicking on them etc.  Again, having an intuitive indicator that will pop up reading “travel”, walk into the indicator and your sim will animate getting inside the car and closing the door.  Next GPS will ask you where to travel. Select a location.

Intuitive Lot And Venue Indicators

Certain lot types and venues could have their own unique Intuitive Indicators.  Going to a nightclub? Just walk up to the bar and the bartender will greet you and ask you what you want to drink.  Then using the traditional interaction pie menu can be used to pick what you want. Residential lots will have intuitive indicators more focused on needs.  Cooking, eating, bathing, using the bathroom, etc. Depending on the object. I think this makes life simulation all the more realistic and fluid. You still have the pie menus for what you want to do as well.

Drivable Cars

Never remove cars from a game. I remember playing Zelda and rushing to get the horse in the game.  Imagine how bad people want cars. In the history of gaming vehicles are on the top of the list of what gamers want. What a backwards direction to take, removing cars to probably make the game playable on older systems (I’m Guessing).  But hey, make it up to us in the upcoming generation. I personally don’t want cars to play out in the same way either. As mentioned before I want to be able to control where they travel to instead of clicking ahead of time. Basically drive them through directional keys on the keyboard.  

Active Unexpected Events – Cars

Unexpected events is something I’d love to see added to the game.  These events would affect your job, school, driving, and relationships.  We kinda already have them with the pop-ups you get in the rabbit hole careers or kids at school.  You are given a couple of options to handle a situation. In the Sims 5 these should be active when possible.  In the case of cars, when you are driving it’s possible to crash, get a speeding ticket, road rage, or break down.  With our big open world you’ll have 7 days to pay the ticket at the courthouse or get arrested and maybe lose your job.  After a crash or breakdown call a tow truck and get the car repaired by a mechanic.

New Vehicle Interactions

Now that driving isn’t as safe as it use to be, it shouldn’t be as boring either.  It would be fun if new buffs and options were added to cars. Example, after a breakdown you might get the late for work buff which puts you in a bad mood.  Speeding ticket buff will also put you in a bummer mood. What if you could go offroading? Too much? New lot type “Off Road”. Kinda like the park but for off road vehicles and bikes.  GPS in each car could have a good number of new and interesting interactions.

Let’s start with rabbit hole careers.  These are handy when you have multiple people who work in the same household.  They kinda live their own life when it comes to earning money. But I’d love to see each career have the two options as standard.  Go with them or send them on their own.

New Career Ideas

The careers that come with the game are actually incredibly fun already.  There are plenty of them to choose from and dlc’s add even more over time.  But there are a few more I’d like to see added to the game.

Here’s a small list:

Banking career. Bank teller, Bank Manager.

Mechanic.

Tow Truck Driver

Traffic Cop

Postal Worker

Hospitality Worker

Uber Driver

Athlete (Play On A Sports Team)

Banking Career

I wish for an entirely new financial system added to the game with your sim able to actively work within that system at a bank.  Starting out as a bank teller, you process deposits and withdrawals at the counter. Approve or disapprove credit applications, and other transactions. Would be nice if you could get robbed from time to time too.  It’s not an exciting career but if you have the klepto trait, maybe the vault is exciting. Don’t get caught. The job would have traditional bank hours.

Mechanic And Tow Truck Driver

Since cars can breakdown and you can have wrecks, you’ll need someone to fix them.  Using services on the cellphone, call the mechanic. If he has a mechanics shop, the car is towed there, or he can come over to your house and shade tree fix your car like the repairman does in the game already.

Postal Worker and Traffic Cop

We’ve long been teased with this NPC, it’s time he or she gets a fully active career and postal lot.  Working this job you’d only deliver mail and packages to NPC lots. Start the shift out by sorting out the mail, hop in your postal delivery jeep and follow the GPS.  Expect to get chased by dogs, and put most of the mail in the wrong mailboxes.

The traffic cop job will have you on a police motorcycle, checking speeds.  When a car passes by too fast you chase them down, pull the speeder over and issue a ticket.  Don’t be surprised if you see a drunk driver from time to time or a criminal on the run.  

Hospitality Worker And Uber Driver

I love hotels and motels in the game for some reason.  This would make a rather boring career but you don’t really need a lot of skill.  You can manage a hotel, be part of the cleaning crew, or check people in and carry their luggage.

I know they wouldn’t be able to call it Uber but this taxi upgrade is something self employed sims would be interested in.  You’d get a notification on your cellphone to pick up an NPC and drive them to their destination already installed in the GPS of your car.  

Sports Team

The athlete career would encompass all the basic sports into one career.  Instead of playing football, basketball, or baseball, you’d play them all in general.  The team would play 4 sports that coincide with each season. Example, winter you’d play basketball, fall you’d play football, etc.  You’d play a game 2-3 times per week with risk of injury. This doesn’t have to be an enormous stadium just a gym or field that makes since for the sport their playing.  You can be traded to other teams, get kicked off the team, or become a famous athlete.

New Financial System

We’ve begged for separate household funds.  Each sim has their own money. When you select your sim their household funds popup the same way needs differ for each sim.  I would also love the ability to open a bank account, apply for credit, make payments on loans, and even rob banks. We should also be able to give money to other sims the same way giving a gift works in Seasons or some mods.  In the upcoming Sims 4 Get Famous expansion pack you get a vault. This reminds me of how a bank would work. You can add money, take money out but for the Sims 5 it should be a lot more advanced through a banking system. Functional ATM machines can help cut down the need to go to the bank if you don’t much time.

The computer has to be the central hub in the household.  It makes sense to be able to take online courses to level up some skills.  Do online banking. Stream movies to the tv,  watch them on the computer and cellphone.  Buy tickets to sporting events. Have groceries delivered by drone. Unexpected Events for the computer: no wifi.  

Access an app store on your phone to download interesting apps.  These apps can control lights, garage doors, coffee machine, extra games, music and movies.  

Smart homes.  Hoping for smart appliances that give sims a modern experience.  Toss in some solar panels too.

Food

The fridge in the Sims 4 is always stocked. However you do have to spend money each time you cook or remove fresh food from it.  I think this is a good system but it just needs to run out of food from time to time. The fridge should have an inventory stock that can run out if you don’t restock.  You can restock by going to the grocery store or ordering groceries online. They’ll be delivered by drone.

Burglars

I wish for the ability to become an active criminal in the game.  Not just klepto but a full list of options. For instance rob banks.  Hand the teller a note informing them it’s a robbery and to put money in the bag.  The teller will either push the panic button or comply. If she hits the alarm the police will show up.  You may or may not get away.

Burglars should be able to creep up to a window and peek to see if someone is home.  If they’re not, pry open the window or pick the lock on the front door and steal several objects.  Sell the stolen goods. If we dumpster dive in trash and find mail, steal that sim’s identity and open credit in their name.  Of course all the crimes should have a chance of going to jail if you’re caught. Pick pocketing. If a sim you sneak up behind has something in their inventory we should be able to steal it.  If you have a van as a criminal with darkened windows you can carry more items out of a target’s house. Maybe we can even case them to find out what time they go work, etc.
