Hello! Im Ethan, I wanna teach what i learn in culinary school bc i think cooking should be safe and accessible to everyone 💕
So lets start with a short lil thing about knives! I see a lot of people holding knives like this:
Which is unsteady and can be dangerous, as well as lead to hand fatigue since it requires more effort to keep the knife steady.
The best way to hold it is like this:
Holding it up closer to the blade makes it easier to balance and control the knife. Theres less risk of cutting yourself with a nice added bonus of being able to get neater cuts.
its best to keep your fingers on your non dominant hand tucked in to avoid injury as well!
Another fun little note: it’s easy to get into the habit of only using one section of a knife, but its good to use the whole blade. French knives(like the one pictured above), for example, excel at slicing. So if you push down and forward on it, it makes cutting so much easier. This especially comes in handy while filleting fish.
Are YOU busy? Could I perhaps play with your vibro-knife for a bit? I’ve been practicing! ^^
I’ll be extra, EXTRA CAREFUL!! I promise!
Hi sweetheart 🙂 yes you can practice with my vibroblade. Try working on your grip positions again, you’ve been getting very good at them, but it never hurts to go over the basics every time.
And don’t forget our main rules—no pointing it at anyone, and no running. I don’t want @chronically-underpaid to have to stitch up your hand again if we can help it. Got it?
